I'd recommend picking up the trail leaflets from the Visit Masham community office, which also has its own small gallery, Flock, which features a changing programme of local artists. EVENING. As a brewery town, tours of the Black Sheep and Theakston are always popular, along with the Spirit of Masham Gin Experience.

We first visited Masham in 1990, whilst holidaying in nearby Rainton. At that time we did the Theakston Brewery Tour and since then, of course, there has been another brewery added to the town. Unfortunately we discovered on our recent return to Masham for a 2 night stay, that the 'opposition' brewery was closed for refurbishment.

The Black Sheep Brewery was established by Paul Theakston in 1991. Following a successful launch as a Business Expansion Scheme, it became a public limited company (plc) in 1992. Theakston had been managing director of Theakston Brewery, also in Masham, since 1968. [1] He began at the age of 23, taking over from his father, Frank Theakston.
