Quite informative. Thanks.

Dude, please! Remove the openstreetmap and switch back to Google Maps. That openstreetmap is really disgusting and annoying.

I love it it is so fun!!!

Very good service I like it

it's not distance rather displacement(shortest distance) , no matter if any river coming the way.

I wis it had morer options like walking driving and buses

I’m not a pilot nor do I fly. Airlines do not fly by this planner either. It gives you general directions from point A to Point B. That’s about it folks.

It is a very useful to manage the travel plan

The website is very useful to have an idea of distances between cities. Wish if it gives the road distances!

This is a very helpful website to use! Thanks so much!

amazing tool

Thank you for this map. Wish I could print it

The fastest way to convert miles to km (kilometers) is to use this simple formula:

kilometers = miles × 1.609344

The distance in kilometers is equal to the distance in miles multiplied by 1.609344. Since one mile is equal to 1.609344 kilometers [1] , that's the conversion ratio used in the formula.

For example, here's how to convert 5 miles to kilometers using the formula above.

kilometers = (5 mi × 1.609344) = 8.04672 km

conversion scale showing miles and equivalent kilometers length values

How Many Kilometers Are in a Mile?

There are 1.609344 kilometers in a mile, which is why we use this value in the formula above.

1 mi = 1.609344 km

How to Convert Miles to Kilometers Without a Calculator

Multiplying by the conversion ratio of 1.609344 might be quick using a calculator, but what if you want to convert miles to kilometers without one?

While it's not nearly as accurate, there's actually a pretty easy method for converting in your head that will get you close.

multiply miles by 1 (50 x 1 = 1) multiply miles by .6 (50 x .6 = 5 x 6 = 30) add them together (50 + 30 = 80 mi) Follow these three steps to convert miles to kilometers:

  • Multiply miles by 1
  • Multiply miles by .6
  • Add these two values together

For example, here's how to convert 50 miles to kilometers using this method.

  • 50 mi × 1 = 50
  • 50 mi × .6 = 5 × 6 = 30
  • 50 + 30 = 80 km

The result of 80 km is pretty close to the actual value of 80.4672 and could be done pretty quickly. Bottom line, if you need precision, use the calculator above, but this method will save you some time!

Convert miles to km

Please provide values below to convert mile [mi, mi(Int)] to kilometer [km], or vice versa .

Definition: A mile (symbol: mi or m) is a unit of length in the imperial and US customary systems of measurement. It is currently defined as 5,280 feet, 1,760 yards, or exactly 1,609.344 meters.

History/origin: The mile is an English unit (predecessor of Imperial units and United States Customary Units) of length. The use of the abbreviation "m" for mile was common before the widespread adoption of the metric system; after the adoption of the metric system, "mi" became the preferred abbreviation in order to avoid confusion between miles and meters. The definition of a mile as 5,280 feet (or 8 furlongs), sometimes referred to as the statute mile, international mile, or land mile, which differs from the Roman mile of 5,000 feet, developed due to the importance of the furlong in England, back in 1593. There also exist a number of units based on, or closely related to, the Roman mile, including the nautical mile (1.852 km exactly), Italian mile (~1.852 km), and the Chinese mile (500m exactly).

Current use: Although most countries have adopted the metric system and use kilometers, rather than miles, to express land distance, the mile is still prevalently used in countries such as the United States (US), United Kingdom (UK), Myanmar, and Liberia, as well as some other countries which are either US or UK territories, or have historical ties with either country.

Definition: A kilometer (symbol: km) is a unit of length in the International System of Units (SI). One kilometer is equivalent to 0.6214 miles.

History/origin: The prefix kilo- is a metric prefix indicating one thousand. One kilometer is therefore one thousand meters. The origin of the kilometer is linked to that of the meter, and its current definition as the distance traveled by light in 1/299 792 458 second. This definition is subject to change, but the relationship between the meter and the kilometer will remain constant.

Current use: It is currently the official unit of measurement for expressing distances between geographical places on land in most of the world. However, there still remain a number of countries that primarily use the mile instead of the kilometer including the United States and the United Kingdom (UK). Unlike the United States, the UK has adopted the metric system; while the metric system is widely used in government, commerce, and industry, remnants of the imperial system can still be seen in the UK's use of miles in its road systems.

Speed Distance Time Calculator

Calculator use.

Calculate speed, distance or time using the formula d = st, distance equals speed times time. The Speed Distance Time Calculator can solve for the unknown sdt value given two known values.

Time can be entered or solved for in units of secondes (s), minutes (min), hours (hr), or hours and minutes and seconds (hh:mm:ss). See shortcuts for time formats below.

To solve for distance use the formula for distance d = st, or distance equals speed times time.

distance = speed x time

Rate and speed are similar since they both represent some distance per unit time like miles per hour or kilometers per hour. If rate r is the same as speed s , r = s = d/t. You can use the equivalent formula d = rt which means distance equals rate times time.

distance = rate x time

To solve for speed or rate use the formula for speed, s = d/t which means speed equals distance divided by time.

speed = distance/time

To solve for time use the formula for time, t = d/s which means time equals distance divided by speed.

time = distance/speed

Time Entry Formats hh:mm:ss

You can use a dash (-), period (.) or colon (:) as separators and must always use 2 separators. For example, 15-06-22, 15.06.22 and 15:06:22 are all interpreted as 15 hours 6 minutes 22 seconds or 15:06:22.

Entry limits allowed:

  • hours 0 to 999
  • minutes 0 to 59
  • seconds 0 to 59

    Speed, Distance & Time Calculation

In order to use the above speed, distance & time calculator, or do such math on your own, you will need to know two out of three metrics: speed, distance, time. You will need to convert the metrics to the same time and distance units, e.g. miles, kilometers, meters, yards, feet, and hours, minutes or seconds. For example, if you have speed in mph (miles per hour), time should also be in hours. If you have distance in kilometers, then speed should also be in km/h (kilometers per hour).

The unit of the result will depend on the units you input, but our speed calculator will conveniently display additional units where appropriate.

    Average Speed formula

The formula for average speed, also called average velocity in physics and engineering, is:

where v is the velocity, d is the distance, and t is the time, so you can read it as Speed = Distance / Time . As noted above, make sure you convert the units appropriately first, or use our speed calculator which does that automatically. The resulting unit will depend on the units for both time and distance, so if your input was in miles and hours, the speed will be in mph. If it was in meters and seconds, it will be in m/s (meters per second).

Example: If you took a plane from New York to Los Angeles and the flight was 5 hours of air time, what was the speed of the plane, given that the flight path was 2450 miles? The answer is 2450 / 5 = 490 mph (miles per hour) average speed. If you want the result in km/h, you can convert from miles to km to get 788.58 km/h.

    Distance formula

The formula for distance, if you know time (duration) and the average speed, is:

Example: If a truck travelled at an average speed of 80 km per hour for 4 hours, how many miles did it cover in that time? To find the miles covered, first, calculate 80 * 4 = 320 km, then convert km to miles by dividing by 1.6093 or by using our km to miles converter to get the answer: 198.84 miles.

    Duration (Time) formula

The time, or more precisely, the duration of the trip, can be calculated knowing the distance and the average speed using the formula:

where d is the distance travelled, v is the speed (velocity) and t is the time, so you can read it as Time = Distance / Speed . Make sure you convert the units so both their distance and time components match, or use our trip duration calculator above which will handle conversions automatically. For example, if you have distance in miles and speed in km/h, you will need to convert speed to mph or distance to kilometers. The time unit of the result will match the time unit of the speed measure, so if it is measured in something per hour, the result will be in hours. If it is measured in some unit per second, the result will be in seconds.

Example: If a train can travel 500 miles with an average speed of 50 miles per hour, how long it would take it to complete a 500-mile route? To find the answer, use the formula and substitute the values, resulting in 500 / 50 = 10 hours.

    How to calculate the average speed of a car?

Say you travelled a certain distance with a car or another vehicle and you want to calculate what its average speed was. The easiest way to do that would be by using the calculator above, but if you prefer, you can also do the math yourself. Either way, you need to know the distance to a satisfactory approximation, for which you can use a map (e.g. Google Maps) to measure the distance from point to point. Make sure you measure closely to the path you took, and not via a straight line, unless you travelled by air in which case that would be a good approximation. Of course, having a GPS reading of the distance would be more precise. Then you need to know the travel time. Make sure you subtract any rests or stops you made from the total trip duration.

If the total distance travelled was 500 miles and the time it took you was 5 hours, then your average speed was 500 / 5 = 100 miles per hour (mph). If the distance was 300 kilometers and it took you 5 hours to cover it, your speed was 300 / 5 = 60 km/h (kilometers per hour).

FREQUENT FLYER: Trudeau flies 92,000 kilometres in just three months Back to video

Data from publicly-accessible flight trackers reveals Trudeau flew 92,100 kilometres on government-owned aircraft from June 1-Sept. 12 — mainly aboard one of the RCAF’s four Bombardier Challenger 650 business jets.

So far in 2024, the PM logged 181,950 kilometres in flights, spread across around 68 flight cycles (a departure followed by a landing.)

Deputy Conservative Leader Melissa Lantsman told The Toronto Sun the PM’s travels are an insult to Canadians who — thanks to the ongoing cost-of-living and affordability crisis — couldn’t afford to go anywhere this summer.

“While some travel is necessary for a prime minister, Justin Trudeau has already shown Canadians that he never misses an opportunity to go on lavish trips and rub shoulders with elites around the world at taxpayer expense, while ignoring the suffering he is causing at home in Canada,” she said.

“What’s worse, is that while the Liberals were busy saying Canadians who take their families on road trips and summer vacations are guilty of burning down the world, the Liberals were racking up thousands of kilometres of jetsetting carbon hypocrisy.”

A Conservative government, she said, would “demonstrate respect” when it comes to government travel.

The PM’s longest flight was June 12 — eight hours and 11 minutes, from Ottawa to Taranto, Italy, for the G7 summit, a 7,100-kilometre journey.

His longest within Canada was a four-hour, 33-minute flight on Feb. 21, from Edmonton to Sydney, N.S. — a total of about 3,800 kilometres.

That was closely followed by a July 21 flight from Ottawa to Tofino, B.C., for the PM’s summer vacation.

The shortest flight of the year — 53 kilometres, from a Liberal retreat in Nanaimo, B.C., to Vancouver — took place Sept. 11. On Feb. 1, he flew 66 kilometres on a 14-minute flight from Pearson airport in Mississauga to Waterloo.

The roughly 45-minute hop between Ottawa and Toronto was the PM’s most-travelled route, with 32 separate flights this year.

Forty-seven were flights under 400 kilometres., including a 197-kilometre post-vacation flight from Tofino to Vancouver on Aug. 1, a 200 kilometre same-day round trip between Ottawa and CFB Trenton, and 240 kilometres from Ottawa to Peterborough on Feb. 8.

While official costs for the RCAF’s Challenger 650 fleet are not available, government tables from 2019 list operating costs for the now-decommissioned (and less-efficient) Challenger 601s at $17,000 per hour, consuming 1,260 litres of jet fuel hourly.

Requests to DND for updated cost tables weren’t returned by press time.

Despite assurances that a response would come, the Sun’s offers to the PMO for comment went unanswered. Offers to the NDP for comment likewise went unacknowledged.

Spadina-Fort York MP Kevin Vuong said that while prime ministers need secure travel, questions of hypocrisy are inevitable.

“It has become painfully clear to Canadians that ‘rules for thee, not for me’ is the unofficial slogan that guides Justin Trudeau,” the independent MP said.

Green Party Leader Elizabeth May told the Sun she doesn’t fault Trudeau for needing to fly, but accused the Liberals of sidelining climate issues.

“My biggest complaint with Liberal hypocrisy isn’t that the prime minister flies around a lot, is that he buys pipelines,” she said, referring to the 2018 Trans Mountain pipeline purchase.

“It’s a climate crime to boost greenhouse gas production from the oilsands by building a pipeline the private sector had decided was not profitable.”
