In a recent interview with Chaoszine , AS I LAY DYING 's founding vocalist Tim Lambesis spoke about the progress of the mixing sessions for the band's next studio album. The LP will mark AS I LAY DYING 's first with its new lineup, featuring Lambesis and longtime guitarist Phil Sgrosso alongside drummer Nick Pierce (ex- UNEARTH ),bassist vocalist Ryan Neff ( MISS MAY I ) and guitarist Ken Susi ( UNEARTH ).

Asked if the new album is "already done and in the can", considering that the mixing sessions began last fall, Tim said: "So what's interesting about it is the mixing engineer has a few more songs to finish. Not because he's lazy or anything, but because we always end up like adding a layer or a couple of things here last minute. But he's been mixing it since I first said that in November, but then with the holidays and everything, there was a little bit of a break. Long story short, he's still fixing a few things. And we definitely have the album scheduled to come out this year and some tours that are already booked to follow that. I just can't announce those tours yet."

Pressed about whether the album will definitely be out in 2024, Tim said: "Yeah, it definitely needs to be because [ laughs ] we have album-release tours booked, so it's definitely gonna be out this year."

Earlier in the month, Lambesis told the Today's Boondoggle podcast about the musical direction of the new AS I LAY DYING material: "No disrespect to some of these other bands, but some bands, when they get to as far along in their careers as we are, they start lightening up or putting out records that are, I think, less exciting than their previous material. And I think for us, it's really cool. I feel like a second with AS I LAY DYING to where it's, like, this record has a lot of really cool intense parts, a lot of really great intricate melodies and cool guitar work and stuff. And so just showing people that we're just as passionate and energetic about where we're at as we've ever been, that, to me, is what's important."

Last June, Tim told Graspop Metal Meeting about AS I LAY DYING 's upcoming LP: "We partly self-produced [it], and then we also worked with another producer. So we spent about a year working on the album by ourselves before we gave it to the producer, who's mixing the album now."

Regarding how the addition of new members Pierce , Neff and Susi has affected AS I LAY DYING 's sound, Tim said: "Well, [ Nick , Ryan and Ken are] new for us, but, obviously, the guys have been around playing music for 20 years themselves. We're familiar, just having spent so much time with UNEARTH , and then MISS MAY I having a pretty similar sound.

"The songwriting within AS I LAY DYING has historically been mostly Phil and I," he continued. " Josh [ Gilbert ], our previous bass player, helped. But the core of the songwriting is the same. So this additional layer that we get from these new guys is almost like breathing fresh new air… a breath of fresh air."

In September 2022, Lambesis addressed AS I LAY DYING 's recent lineup changes in an interview with Metalshop TV . He said: "I think for our fans, they think that the changes happened all in a very short period of time, but they actually happened over the last two years. The first change was on guitar we invited Ken Susi to fill in for us. And that was [around 2020] that we invited him. But then, of course, the pandemic happened and so we had a lot of breaks until we had a tour again. So Ken 's been rehearsing with us, or talking about rehearsing with us, for the last couple of years. And on drums we have Nick Pierce , who joined us. Nick Pierce was previously in UNEARTH ; Ken is from UNEARTH as well. And Nick stopped playing with UNEARTH and coincidentally at the same time we needed a drummer, because our previous drummer hadn't been communicating with us; he went very isolated once the pandemic hit. And so there wasn't an argument or anything like that; it was just a situation where when the pandemic hit, he decided to take a new direction in life and kind of cut himself off from the rest of us. And we decided we wanted to keep going forward. Phil and I had been the ones writing the songs all these years, so when Nick Pierce left UNEARTH , we thought it was the perfect opportunity to have him perform with us. And then Ryan came from MISS MAY I . He was the last guy to come in. And he didn't come in until a couple of months ago. Our bass player, Josh , previously left, and he's with SPIRITBOX now. And when he decided to go perform with SPIRITBOX , we called up Ryan , who was with MISS MAY I . And Ryan Neff was on tour at the time. And then we asked him, 'Can you start touring with us as soon as this tour is over?' And he said, 'Well, I'm only gonna have three days off to rehearse in between tours.' He said, 'If you guys want me to do it, I'll make sure I come prepared.' And he had a lot to learn in three days, but he pulled it together. He's a very, very hard-working guy."

AS I LAY DYING 's new album will be the follow-up to "Shaped By Fire" , which came out in September 2019 via Nuclear Blast .

In June 2022, longtime AS I LAY DYING drummer Jordan Mancino announced that he would sit out the band's tour due to "a number of ongoing internal issues" that "have not yet been resolved."

Mancino 's announcement came less than a month after AS I LAY DYING 's longtime bassist/vocalist Josh Gilbert revealed that he was leaving the band. In a statement, the remaining members of AS I LAY DYING said that Gilbert "decided to exit" the group "to pursue other musical opportunities."

Josh was the second AS I LAY DYING member to leave the band in less than a year. In August 2021, guitarist Nick Hipa confirmed his exit from AS I LAY DYING , explaining that he could no longer justify being part of "a superficial pursuit" of the "story and meaning" that the band's 2018 reunion was built upon.

Lambesis was famously convicted in 2014 for his role in a murder-for-hire plot against his estranged wife.

In May 2014, Lambesis was sentenced to six years in jail after pleading guilty to paying a San Diego police officer posing as a hitman $1,000 to kill his wife. Approximately two and a half years later — on December 17, 2016 — he was discharged from a California detention facility and was transferred to the Division of Adult Parole Operations.

In June 2018, AS I LAY DYING played its first show with Lambesis in five years and released a new single. Lambesis also owned up to his crimes in a long apology on the band's Facebook page after his release.

The return of AS I LAY DYING raised some questions, particularly since Hipa categorically denounced the band's disgraced frontman as a "sociopathic narcissist in definite need of rehabilitation" in a social-media post back in 2014.

In September 2021, AS I LAY DYING released a new song called "Roots Below" which was originally a B-side leftover from when the sessions for "Shaped By Fire" .

During a recent interview with  Today’s Boondoggle podcast ,  Tim Lambesis , the founding vocalist of  AS I LAY DYING , revealed that the band’s upcoming studio album is slated for release later this year. This LP will signify  AS I LAY DYING ‘s inaugural venture with its revamped lineup, comprising  Lambesis  and seasoned guitarist  Phil Sgrosso , as well as drummer  Nick Pierce  (formerly of  UNEARTH ), bassist/vocalist  Ryan Neff  (known for his work with  MISS MAY I ), and guitarist  Ken   Susi  (also of  UNEARTH ).

Discussing the new  AS I LAY DYING  material,  Tim  said: “No disrespect to some of these other bands, but some bands, when they get to as far along in their careers as we are, they start lightening up or putting out records that are, I think, less exciting than their previous material.

Touching on the addition of new members  Pierce ,  Neff  and  Susi ,  Tim  said: “Well, [ Nick ,  Ryan  and  Ken ]  are new for us, but, obviously, the guys have been around playing music for 20 years themselves. So this additional layer that we get from these new guys is almost like breathing fresh new air… a breath of fresh air.

AS I LAY DYING ‘s forthcoming album serves as the successor to “ Shaped By Fire ,” which debuted in September 2019 via  Nuclear Blast .

In June 2022, long-standing drummer  Jordan Mancino  announced his absence from the band’s tour due to unresolved internal issues. This declaration followed closely after bassist/vocalist  Josh Gilbert ‘s departure, who opted to pursue other musical endeavors, leaving  AS I LAY DYING  to continue as a quartet.

Josh ‘s exit marked the second departure from the band within a year, following guitarist  Nick Hipa ‘s departure in August 2021.  Hipa  cited philosophical differences and a dissonance with the band’s narrative as reasons for his departure.

The band’s tumultuous history also includes the infamous legal case involving founding vocalist  Tim Lambesis . In 2014,  Lambesis  was convicted for his involvement in a murder-for-hire plot against his estranged wife, resulting in a six-year jail sentence. Following his release in December 2016,  Lambesis  addressed his crimes and issued a public apology upon  AS I LAY DYING ‘s reformation in June 2018.

However,  Lambesis ‘s return sparked controversy, especially considering guitarist  Nick Hipa ‘s prior condemnation of him as a “sociopathic narcissist in definite need of rehabilitation” in a 2014 social media post.

Despite these challenges,  AS I LAY DYING  continued to move forward creatively, releasing a new song titled “ Roots Below ” in September 2021, originally a B-side from the “ Shaped By Fire ” sessions. With a new album on the horizon, the band navigates through its tumultuous past, striving to carve out a new chapter in its musical journey.

It turns out that solo travelers often have spouses or partners at home, but still yearn to see the world even if their significant other doesn’t. Solo tour travelers report loving the independence, how easy it is to make friends on tours, and the chance to spend time the way they want to.

2. The Desire for Sustainable Travel Is Growing, Too

The USTOA has been tracking the number of tour companies with formal documented sustainability strategies, and says that there’s been “substantial growth” in the number of companies that have developed plans this year.

BEST OF THE BEST: 11 Guided Tour Companies That Offer Trips around the World

I’ve also noticed a heartening shift toward tour companies thinking about their role in sustainability as I’ve been updating our tour company reviews for 2024. Pretty much across the board, tour operators are dialing up their efforts to support cultural and environmental preservation efforts.

This takes many different forms: reducing or trying to eliminate single-use plastics, supporting local economies through artisanal goods and tourism, offsetting carbon emissions, working with wildlife protection projects, and more.

3. The Shoulder Season Travel Trend Is Real

sunrise in the small Italian town of Anghiari in Tuscany

Whether you’re an independent traveler or going on a tour, there are a lot of benefits to traveling outside of peak seasons. In 2023, EF Go Ahead Tours saw a rise in the number of travelers on shoulder-season departure dates (October through April in Europe, for instance), and the company expects that trend to keep growing in 2024.

MYSTERY SOLVED: How Much Should You Tip on a Guided Tour? All Your Gratuity Questions Answered

During its Black Friday sale, it reported that April was the top booking month for tours. Backroads has also seen a shift to more people booking earlier in spring and later in fall to avoid the crowds, heat, and higher prices of summer. The trend is so pronounced that the tour company has added more departure dates to the 2024 shoulder season.

4. People Are Booking Earlier Than Ever

When I spoke with a representative from Backroads near the end of 2023, the company reported that nearly 40% of its 2024 spots were already booked. Curious to see if other tour operators are seeing similar trends, I asked around. Road Scholar said that for 2024, it’s seeing a continuation of the early booking trend compared to pre-COVID, with an average booking time of 238 days prior to the start of a tour. And Avalon Waterways reports that it’s seeing its highest early bookings in history for 2024, with several cruises already nearing capacity or sold out for the year.

5. More Trends to Watch in 2024

view of a crowd in front of a temple in Japan

Here are a few more trends that have come up frequently in my research about what to expect on tours the year:

  • Destinations: Far-flung destinations are looking increasingly popular. Across the board, bookings are up for 2024 tours to far-away spots including Thailand, Japan, and Norway.
  • Experiences: Immersive experiences like gastronomy tours , hut-to-hut hiking , and pilgrimage routes such as Spain and Portugal’s Camino de Santiago have renewed appeal as travelers look for unique vacations.
  • Private tours: This is an interesting one because after a big surge in 2021 in tour companies offering private tours , a few tour companies have retired the private tour option. However, in 2024 some tour operators are doubling down on private tour offerings, saying that more and more people are drawn to the relative affordability of being able to create their own tour group.

The post The 60 Most Anticipated Tours of 2024 appeared first on Consequence .

A new year means new tours, along with some notable ongoing treks. When it comes to anticipated tours here in 2024, Taylor Swift certainly isn’t the only superstar who will be on the road, as Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen , Madonna, and Foo Fighters can all be found on outings of their own.

Keep an eye out for some particularly stacked joint outings, like Joel roaming with Sting and Stevie Nicks ; Earth, Wind & Fire journeying with Chicago; or the team-up of Latin icons Enrique Iglesias, Pitbull, and Ricky Martin. Drake is linking with J. Cole for a blockbuster hip-hop trek, Chris Stapleton has a rotating cast of incredible special guests (including Willie Nelson and George Strait ), while Mannequin Pussy will be bringing Soul Glo along for the ride.

There’s so much to be excited about across the musical landscape, so to help you find exactly what you’re looking for, we decided to break down our tours by genre. Ahead, find all the details on the live events we are most excited to catch, from pop legends to Americana iconoclasts, hip-hop luminaries to indie favorites and unforgettable rock stars.

Classic Rock Tours

Stevie Nicks (photo by Anthony Merriweather), Billy Joel (photo via Live Nation), and Sting (photo by Ben Kaye)

Billy Joel will conclude his record-setting Madison Square Garden residency with his 150th show at the venue on July 25th. But that won’t be your last chance to see The Piano Man live, as he has a handful of non-New York concerts scheduled around his final six MSG performances, including shows with Sting and Stevie Nicks (who has some upcoming dates of her own). —  Ben Kaye

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band’s 2023 tour was one of the year’s best live shows — but it was cut short as The Boss dealt with peptic ulcer disease. Thankfully, he’s expecting to make a quick recovery, with rescheduled US dates already mapped out for much of 2024. There’s also a summer European trek , tickets for which can be found here . — B. Kaye

Def Leppard and Journey

Def Leppard and Journey are striking out on a 23-city co-headlining tour this summer, and those two names alone would be worth the price of admission. But it gets even better for fans of classic rock bands: Cheap Trick, Steve Miller Band, and Heart will all open select shows. Don’t stop the hysteria! —  B. Kaye

Don Henley, Joe Walsh, and Timothy B. Schmit , along with Vince Gill and Deacon Frey, are coming in for a final landing. Eagles’ “The Long Goodbye” farewell tour has exactly 21 dates left on its itinerary, and while there’s every chance they’ll extend the trek once again (it  is a long goodbye, after all), do you really want to take that chance? —  B. Kaye

Earth, Wind & Fire and Chicago

Soul, funk, rock ‘n’ roll — nothing makes for a better summer concert experience. Thankfully, the iconic Earth, Wind & Fire and the legendary Chicago are bringing it all on the road for another leg of their “Heart & Soul 2024 Tour.” There are currently 30 dates on the co-headlining jaunt, with each one expected to end with an all-hands-on-deck encore that’s not to be missed. — B. Kaye

Echo & The Bunnymen

Echo & The Bunnymen are bringing their very best to their upcoming concerts — at least if the tour title “Songs to Learn and Sing 2024: The Very Best of Echo & The Bunnymen” is to be believed. Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Top

Classic rock can be blues rock too, and blues doesn’t get any more classic than Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Top. The hirsute icons are relaunching their “The Sharp Dressed Simple Man” tour for 2024 with both spring (March-April) and summer (August-September) legs. Black Stone Cherry join in on the former, with The Outlaws along for the latter. —  B. Kaye

The Rolling Stones

Even if The Rolling Stones hadn’t released some incredible new music last year, we’d still be pumped for their upcoming run of North American tour dates . The fact that we’ll probably hear at least “Sweet Sounds of Heaven” just makes it that much more exciting. Yes, we’re excited to see The Rolling Stones play new music in 2024. What a world. —  B. Artists Who Are Going On Tour In 2024: The Rolling Stones, Drake, Olivia Rodrigo & More

The year is just getting started, but 2024 is already stacked with exciting tours. Open up your calendar and start planning with this sprawling list of announced 2024 tours.

Just a couple of years ago, live music still looked uncertain — would variant X, Y or Z derail the train for the umpteenth time? But in that regard, 2023 felt almost totally in the clear — and that's why it feels like the rubber band is stretched back for 2024, and it's ready to launch.

Sure, compiling every musical act who's touring in 2024 might be impossible. But GRAMMY.com's stylistic purview is far and wide: country, hardcore, soul, R&B, rap, indie rock, you name it. As such, we're giving it our best shot — and will continue to update the list as more tours are announced.

Without further ado, here's a major cross section of the 2024 touring landscape as currently announced — from Alvvays to Adam Ant , from Def Leppard to Danny Brown.

Chappell Roan's Big Year: The 'Midwest Princess' Examines How She Became A Pop "Feminomenon"

Just after Chappell Roan made her festival debut at Coachella, hear from the pop starlet about some of the defining moments of her career thus far — and how it all helped earn her a spot at one of music's biggest fests.

Before this year, Chappell Roan had never even been to Coachella. Now, not only can she say she's attended — she's performed in the desert, too.

Roan played an evening set on the Gobi Stage on April 12, and is set to return for Weekend 2. Fans clad in everything from cowboy boots, Sandy Liang-inspired bows and, perhaps most importantly, jorts, gathered to celebrate their shared love of Roan's radiance, karmic kink and gay cowgirl doctrine.

Throughout her performance, bubbles breezed through the air as Roan belted out her infectious (and aptly titled) track "Femininomenon," which speaks to lover girls forced to live in an online-dating hellscape. "Ladies, you know what I mean?/ And you know what you need and so does he/ But does it happen? No!" Following collective screams of pure joy, the already enlivened crowd roused to match Roan beat-for-beat, shouting back in perfect unison, "Well, what we really need is a femininomenon!"

In an era of bedroom pop and sad-girl music, Roan has been hailed by both critics and fans for bringing fun back to pop music. Along with her staunch sense of self, Roan's penchant for explicit lyrics that are equally parts introspective and horny makes her dance-pop anthems all the more infectious.

Roan's ambitiously experimental debut album, 2023's The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess , cemented her status as one of the most exciting pop stars on the rise. While she only recently landed her first single on the Billboard Hot 100 with "Good Luck, Babe!," her rapidly growing fan base — and an opening slot on Olivia Rodrigo's sold-out GUTS World Tour — indicate that she's on her way to superstardom .

Perhaps part of Roan's magic is that it was all on her own terms. After parting ways with her first label, Atlantic Records, she built a loyal following as an independent artist before signing with Island Records last year. Even as a major label artist, she's determined to only do things her way; her indefatigable commitment to her craft — as well as writing her own rules when it comes to fashion and makeup — is precisely why her fans are so enraptured by both her music and persona.

Her fearlessness was on full display during her first Coachella set, where the words emblazoned on her bodysuit read "Eat Me." She talks the talk, and walks the walk (in fabulous, knee-high boots, of course), matching her unabashed aesthetic with equally bold career moves; for one, the openers for her headlining tour are local drag queens.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Doniella Davy (@donni.davy)

With eyeliner winged to the heavens, near-perfect vocal stability and fiery curls ablaze, Roan's shimmering Coachella Weekend 1 performance proved that her stage presence is equally dynamic. And if she had any doubters, she had one thing to say to them: "B—, I know you're watching!"

In between rehearsals for her Coachella debut, Roan took a look back on her journey to one of music's most coveted stages. Below, hear from Roan about five of the most impactful milestones in her career — so far.

Releasing Her Debut Album, The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess

I ended up signing [with Island Records in 2023] because this project honestly got too big to be independent anymore. I just wasn't willing to give up anything, any creative control or for any amount of money.

Being an independent artist was really special because I proved to myself that I could do all these hard things that I had never done. I built it with an entire friend group and many, many years of work. So it wasn't just me, but it proved a lot to me.

It proved I can make it through hard circumstances — with no money. You truly can. You do not need a label to do a lot of what an artist's career requires. You don't need a label to put on your own show, or make a music video, or even write a song, or find creative people. You don't need that s—t. I mean, a label is just money, you know? You don't need a lot of money to do this. To make it grow is, I think, where it takes a lot of money. That's what was difficult.

Music allows me to express anything, even things that I've never experienced before. It allows me to express queerness, even if it was only daydreams at that point. It allows me to express parts of me that I'm not even ready to accept yet.

I don't give a f— if you don't  f— with the music. You don't have to come to the concert. That's the whole point of it. You don't have to like it. I think throughout the year, I'm like, "What can I get away with?" Because right now it's pretty tame for what it is like to be a gay artist. But I just want to push it to see how far can I go — with the most controversial outfits or things to rile people up. I'm not really afraid to do that.

Having a song [like "Casual] with the lyric, "Knee deep in the passenger seat/ And you're eating me out," and it's being considered to go to radio. That's kind of a big thing to get away with.

It's not even that big of a thing. What's that song? Is it Flo Rida ? That's like, "Can you blow my whistle, baby/ whistle baby." Okay, that's obviously about like a f—ing blowjob. [ Laughs .] No one cares about that. To me, I'm like, Let's talk about eating out on the radio . I actually think it has to be bleeped, but still, if I can get away with it, that's cool.

Feeling Financial Freedom & Stability

Not making money at all just sucked. But I learned how to do my own makeup and bedazzle and sew a little bit. I think that the scrappiness came from [the idea that] it's scrappy if it's fun.

I think that's what kept me going — because if this wasn't fun, I would not even be here. But it was scrappy and fun, and it was with my friends. It didn't feel dire. I was also just working at a coffee shop, and I was a nanny, and I was working at a donut shop. I was doing part time jobs all on the side too. So it was all just rough [in the beginning].

I have freedom because now [singing] is my full-time job. It provides for me now. As the project grows, I can do bigger shows and be like, I want outfit changes now , and I want more lights, and I want confetti . I can afford confetti now!

It's about expanding the universe in a thoughtful way. And not just like throwing a s— ton of money at things to make things look expensive or wear all this designer s— for no reason.

I just try to look at how we are starting to gain momentum financially and see how can I intentionally use that to, one, pay the team in a way where they're not bare bones anymore, and two, [ask ourselves] how can we honor this project and this album and the queer community? Can we pay drag queens more? Can we bring drag on the road? Now, financially, doors have opened where we can walk through them with love and intention. Just recklessly, throwing money at s— to see if it works.

Opening Olivia Rodrigo's Arena Tour

Olivia [Rodrigo] just asked. It was official, we went through our management. But I was like, Oh my God .

Preparing a 40-minute set is a different vibe than headlining, obviously. You are going out to an audience that is not there for you and doesn't necessarily care if you're there or not.

This is, like, my fourth or fifth artist I've opened for. But for an arena tour, I just needed to gather my nerves. I think that's the difference between any other show. Like, F—, there's 20,000 people out there right now. I've never performed in front of that many people. I don't know what this emotion is, and I just have to tame it right now.

Standing Up For Herself Creatively, Even When There's Pushback

I stand up for myself, I would say, every day. Sometimes, you get this opportunity, a huge opportunity with a lot of money on the table. [Yet,] I'm just like, That just doesn't make sense creatively. That doesn't align with my values. I'm not doing that.

One huge creative decision was I stood up and pushed the entire headlining Midwest Princess tour back to the fall. The album was supposed to come out while we were on tour. I was like, "This is a horrible idea!"

That caused a big ruckus, but it ended up being fine, and I was right. I'm usually right. [ Laughs .] It's like a mother with her kid — a mother knows best. I feel like [that] when it comes to the integrity of my project.

I know how it is to not be able to afford a ticket or even f—ing food. A concert ticket, a lot of times, means multiple meals for someone. I get it, I couldn't afford some artists' tickets. That's why it's really important to me to try to keep them as low as I can and my merch as low as I can.

There's pushback of ticket prices being low and we're playing rooms that are so expensive. The fee to even play them is so expensive. So, you have to raise the ticket prices to just even be able to afford to play the room. There's always an argument [with my team] there, every tour. I'm in control of stuff and if I'm saying this is how it's going to be —- it's just going to be that way.

Performing At Coachella For The First Time

[After the first weekend of Coachella] I am feeling very relieved. I was so stressed about many things. How is the outfit going to work? Will the crowd really be engaged? It went so well, I have no qualms with anything. I loved every second of it.

It feels like I am partying with [my fans]. I am not performing to them; I’m performing with them. [I want people to remember] a really fun, freeing show. Very campy but very meaningful too.

British glam rocker David Bowie was a starman and an icon. Throughout his career, he won five GRAMMY Awards and was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006.

On RSD 2024, Bowie's estate is dialing it back to his Ziggy Stardust days to make Waiting in the Sky (Before The Starman Came To Earth) available for the first time. The record features recordings of Bowie's sessions at Trident Studios in 1971, and many songs from those sessions would be polished for his 1972 album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars .

The tracklisting for Waiting in the Sky differs from Ziggy Stardust and features four songs that didn’t make the final album.

Talking Heads — Live at WCOZ 77

New York City-based outfit Talking Heads defined the sound of new wave in the late '70s and into the next decade. For their massive influence, the group received two GRAMMY nominations and was later honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021.

While promoting their debut album Talking Heads: 77 , the quartet recorded a live performance for the New Albany, Pennsylvania radio station WCOZ in 1977. The Live at WCOZ 77 LP will include 14 songs from that performance at Northern Studios, including seven that will be released for the first time. Danny Ocean — 54+1

Venezuelan reggaeton star Danny Ocean broke through on a global level in 2016 with his self-produced debut single "Me Rehúso," a heartbreaking track inspired by Ocean fleeing Venezuela due to the country's economic instability and the lover he had left behind.

With "Me Rehúso," Ocean became the first solo Latin artist to surpass one billion streams on Spotify, on the platform with a single song. "Me Rehúso" was included on his 2019 debut album 54+1 , which will be released on vinyl for the first time for Record Store Day.

Lee "Scratch" Perry & The Upsetters — Skanking With The Upsetter

Jamaican producer Lee "Scratch" Perry pioneered dub music in the 1960s and '70s. Perry received five GRAMMY nominations in his lifetime, including winning Best Reggae Album in 2003 for Jamaican E.T.

To celebrate the legacy of Perry's earliest dub recordings, a limited edition run of his 2004 album Skanking With The Upsetter will be released on Record Store Day. The Notorious B.I.G. helped define the sound of East Coast rap in the '90s. Though he was tragically murdered in 1997, his legacy continues to live on through his two albums.

During his lifetime, the Notorious B.I.G. dropped his 1994 debut album Ready to Die , which is widely considered to be one of the greatest hip-hop releases of all-time. In honor of the 30th anniversary of the album (originally released in September '94), his estate will release Ready To Die: The Instrumentals . The limited edition vinyl will include select cuts from the LP like his hits "Big Poppa," "One More Chance/Stay With Me," and "Juicy." The album helped him garner his first GRAMMY nomination in 1996 for Best Rap Solo Performance. The Notorious B.I.G. received an additional three nominations after his death in 1998.

How Andrew Watt Became Rock's Big Producer: His Work With Paul McCartney, Ozzy Osbourne, Pearl Jam, & More

Andrew Watt cut his teeth with pop phenoms, but lately, the 2021 Producer Of The Year winner has been in demand among rockers — from the Rolling Stones and Blink-182 to Elton John.

While in a studio, Andrew Watt bounces off the walls. Just ask Mick Jagger , who once had to gently tell the 33-year-old, "Look, I can deal with this, but when you meet Ronnie and Keith , you have to dial it down a little bit."

Or ask Pearl Jam 's Stone Gossard . "He really got the best out of [drummer] Matt [Cameron] just by being excited — literally jumping up and down and pumping his fist and running around," he tells GRAMMY.com.

As Watt's hot streak has burned on, reams have rightly been written about his ability to take a legacy act, reconnect them with their essence, and put a battery in their back. His efficacy can be seen at Music's Biggest Night: Ozzy Osbourne 's Patient Number 9 won Best Rock Album at the 2023 GRAMMYs . At the last ceremony, the Rolling Stones were nominated for Best Rock Song, for Hackney Diamonds ' opener "Angry."

On Pearl Jam's return to form, Dark Matter , due out April 19. Who was behind the desk? Take a wild guess.

"You want to see them live more than you want to listen to their albums, and they have the ability to look at each other and play and follow each other. I don't like my rock music any other way, as a listener," Watt tells GRAMMY.com. "All my favorite records are made like that — of people speeding up, slowing down, playing longer than they should."

As such, Watt had a lightbulb moment: to not record any demos, and have them write together in the room. "They're all playing different stuff, and it makes up what Pearl Jam is, and singer Eddie [Vedder] rides it like a wave."

If you're more of a pop listener, there's tons of Watt for you — he's worked with Justin Bieber ("Hit the Ground" from Purpose ), Lana Del Rey ("Doin' Time" from Norman F—ing Rockwell ) and much more. Read on for a breakdown of big name rockers who have worked with Andrew Watt.

Pearl Jam / Eddie Vedder

Watt didn't just produce Dark Matter ; he also helmed Vedder's well-received third solo album, Earthling , from 2022. Watt plays guitar in Vedder's live backing band, known as the Earthlings — which also includes Josh Klinghoffer , who replaced John Frusciante in the Red Hot Chili Peppers for a stint.

The Rolling Stones

Dark Matter was a comeback for Pearl Jam, but Hackney Diamonds was really a comeback for the Stones . While it had a hater or two , the overwhelming consensus was that it was the Stones' best album in decades — maybe even since 1978's Some Girls .

"I hope what makes it fresh and modern comes down to the way it's mixed, with focus on low end and making sure the drums are big," Watt, who wore a different Stones shirt every day in the studio, has said about Hackney Diamonds . "But the record is recorded like a Stones album."

Where there are modern rock flourishes on Hackney Diamonds , "There's no click tracks. There's no gridding. There's no computer editing," he continued. "This s— is performed live and it speeds up and slows down. It's made to the f—ing heartbeat connection of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Steve Jordan.

"And Charlie ," Watt added, tipping a hat to Watts, who played on Hackney Diamonds but died before it came out. "When Charlie's on it."

Ever since he first picked up a mic and removed his shirt, the snapping junkyard dog of the Stooges has stayed relevant — as far as indie, alternative and punk music has been concerned.

But aside from bright spots like 2016's Josh Homme -produced Post Pop Depression , his late-career output has felt occasionally indulgent and enervated. The 11 songs on 2023's eclectic Watt-produced Every Loser , on the other hand, slap you in the face in 11 different ways.

"We would jam and make tracks and send them to Iggy, and he would like 'em and write to them or wouldn't like them and we'd do something else," Watt told Billboard . "It was very low pressure. We just kept making music until we felt like we had an album." (And as with Pearl Jam and Vedder's Earthlings band, Watt has rocked out onstage with Pop .

Ozzy Osbourne

You dropped your crown, O Prince of Darkness. When he hooked up with Watt, the original Black Sabbath frontman hadn't released any solo music since 2010's Scream; in 2017, Sabbath finally said goodbye after 49 years and 10 (!) singers.

On 2020's Ordinary Man and 2022's Patient Number 9 , Watt reenergized Ozzy; even when he sounds his age, Ozz sounds resolute, defiant, spitting in the face of the Reaper. (A bittersweet aside: the late Taylor Hawkins appears on Patient Number 9 , which was written and recorded in just four days .)

Yeah, yeah, they're more of a pop -rock band, but they have guitars, bass and drums. (And if you're the type of rock fan who's neutral or hostile to the 5, you shouldn't be; Songs About Jane slaps.)

At any rate, Watt co-produced "Can't Leave You Alone," featuring Juice WRLD , from 2021's Jordi . Critics disparaged the album, but showed Watt's facility straddling the pop and rock worlds.

5 Seconds of Summer

When it comes to Andrew Watt, the Sydney pop-rockers — slightly more on the rock end than Maroon 5 and their ilk — are repeat customers. He produced a number of tracks for 5 Seconds of Summer, which spanned 2018's Youngblood , 2020's Calm and 2022's 5SOS5 .

Regarding the former: Watt has cited Youngblood as one of the defining recording experiences of his life.

"I had started working with 5 Seconds of Summer, and a lot of people looked at them as a boy band, but they're not," Watt told Guitar Player . "They're all incredible musicians. They can all play every instrument. They love rock music. They can harmonize like skyrockets in flight. They just were making the wrong kind of music."

So Watt showed 5 Seconds of Summer a number of mainstays of the rock era, like Tears for Fears and the Police . The rest, as they say, is history.

A year after Britney Spears was unshackled from her highly controversial conservatorship, it was time for a victory lap with the God of Glitter. What resulted was a curious little bauble, which became a megahit: "Hold Me Closer," a spin on "Tiny Dancer," "The One" and "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" that briefly launched Spears back into the stratosphere.

"Britney came in and she knew what she wanted to do," Watt recalled to The L.A. Times . "We sped up the song a little bit and she sang the verses in her falsetto, which harkens back to 'Toxic.' She was having a blast."

Watt has also worked with pop/punk heroes Blink-182 — but not after Tom DeLonge made his grand return. He produced "I Really Wish I Hated You" from 2019's Nine , back when Matt Skiba was in the band.

Where in the rock world will this tender-aged superproducer strike next? Watt knows.

It may be hard to believe, but Weekend 1 of Coachella 2024 is already over. Clearly, time flies when you’re having fun — particularly when beholding the world’s leading artists, convened in the Indio desert in California.

If you weren’t there, the festival was filmed, of course. You can enjoy Coachella from the comfort of your own home, sans-sunburn, undrenched with champagne.

As you survey Coachella’s sold-out first weekend, read on for 20 performances, debuts and moments that surprised and touched us from Coachella Weekend 1.

Lana Del Rey's Headlining Set Brought Out GRAMMY Winners Billie Eilish, Jon Batiste & Jack Antonoff

After rolling deep up to her desert set on a fleet of motorcycles for her Friday performance, Lana Del Rey infused her iconic sad-girl pop persona into every facet of her Gatsby-esque performance.  Her headlining set also included some special GRAMMY-winning guests: Jon Batiste and 2024 Producer Of The Year Jack Antonoff both accompanied on piano, while Billie Eilish joined her idol on stage for duet performances of "Ocean Eyes" and "Video Games." Sharing a moment with her hero on stage at the end of the set, Eilish declared, "This is the reason for half you bitches’ existence, including mine.”

Saturday's main stage event kicked off with a ruckus 80-minute set by creative magnet Tyler, The Creator , who transformed the stage into an ever-changing desert scene to host fellow performers.

First up, Childish Gambino hit the stage to perform a duet of "Running Out of Time," before A$AP Rocky joined for a performance of two tracks, "Potato Salad" and "Who Dat Boy."

Tyler admitted he once saw both as rivals, but now considers them friends. Kali Uchis also returned to the desert stage with Tyler for a quick appearance as well as legendary singer/songwriter Charlie Wilson , who made an unexpected appearance to accompany Tyler on a laid-back version of "EARFQUAKE."

And at Coachella 2024, the world was treated to another throwback, as he and four-time GRAMMY nominee J Balvin performed the immortal theme to Men in Black . Doja Cat Brought Out A$AP Rocky, 21 Savage and Teezo Touchdown GRAMMY winner and 19-time nominee Doja Cat turned in a performance heavy on rap — and also puppet dinosaurs. Ice Spice Previewed A New Song Onstage Something’s stirring in Ice Spiceworld. In the wake of his big wi n at the 2024 GRAMMYs — Best Música Mexicana Album (Including Tejano), for GÉNESIS — Peso Pluma lit up Coachella 2024 with that signature fusion of folky guitar ballads and modern hip-hop, with special guests including Becky G and Arcángel . Lil Uzi Vert Previewed A New Song Onstage Ice Spice wasn’t the only act to preview new material at Coachella 2024. Enter four-time GRAMMY nominee Lil Uzi Vert, who performed a hypnotic and — again — unnamed track, one that seemed to be tailor-made for Coachella. A Mini-Fugees Reunion Went Down (Thanks To YG Marley) Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean are no strangers to reigniting the Fugees spirit onstage — they did so at Essence Fest 2022, while GRAMMY.com was reporting on site . This time, they kept it in the family; during Hill’s son YG Marley’s set, both Fugees came out, playing classics like “Killing Me Softly.” (The embattled Pras wasn’t present.) Blur Announced This Was Their Last Performance Together .tweet-container iframe { width: 100% !important; } .body-text { max-width: inherit; } .body-text strong > a { font-weight: 600; } Social media is currently abuzz at the allegedly unresponsive audience for Blur — but what’s a viral, out-of-context clip supposed to prove, anyway? Whatever the case may be, after their rollicking set, Damon Albarn and company declared that the Britpop icons were entering another hiatus. Bizarrap Brought Out Shakira .body-text { max-width: inherit; } .body-text strong > a { font-weight: 600; } View this post on Instagram A post shared by Coachella (@coachella)

Billie Eilish Threw A Special “Billie & Friends” Party & Hyped Up The Crowd With The Killers’ “Mr. Brightside”

After surprising fans during Lana Del Rey 's Friday set, Billie Eilish treated fans and special guests to a preview of her new album, Hit Me Hard and Soft at the Do LaB Stage on Saturday night.

The previewed songs were well-received by an enthusiastic set of attendees who were introduced to yet-to-debut tracks "“Lunch,” "L’Amour De Ma Vie," and "Chihiro."

"Yo Gabba Gabba!" Showed Up To The Aquabats’ Pool Party

Christian Jacobs, lead singer of the Aquabats, co-created the "Yo Gabba Gabba!" TV show — and the colorful cast of costumed characters showed up to their pool party! This marks yet another example of ska picking up at Coachella — see the transcendent No Doubt and Sublime performances.

Sublime Made Their Coachella Debut With Jakob Nowell

As you may have read , Sublime are back, against the odds — not with Rome, but with Jakob Nowell , original Sublime frontman Bradley’s son. (It must be said: Bradley died at 28, ending the band’s original run; as he takes the guitar and mic, Jakob himself is 28.)

Speaking of the guitar — he wielded his old man’s, in an emotional and electrifying set that proved these songs’ durability and beyond.

Vampire Weekend Brought Paris Hilton Onstage To Play Cornhole

.body-text { max-width: inherit; } .body-text strong > a { font-weight: 600; } Life imitates Mad Libs! The beloved indie rockers are out promoting their new album, 2024’s Only God Was Above Us — and who better to cheerlead than the one and only Paris Hilton, to play the classic bean bag game with the crew? Dom Dolla Brought Out Nelly Furtado .body-text { max-width: inherit; } .body-text strong > a { font-weight: 600; } View this post on Instagram A post shared by Coachella (@coachella)

Dance/electronic sensation Dom Dolla returned to Coachella for a charged set featuring festival first-timer Nelly Furtado who joined to perform their GRAMMY-nominated track, "Eat Your Man."

Furtado gave her all during the rousing performance, a testament to the duo's synergy after Dom Dolla brought the singer out of a six year hiatus to work together on the song.

Sky Ferreira Made A Surprise Appearance With Kevin Abstract

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Stereogum (@stereogum)

If Sky Ferreira seems like an unlikely candidate to belt out a Lady A hit, think again. The singer/songwriter brought newfound heft to the five-time GRAMMY winners’ classic hit, “Need You Now,” with Kevin Abstract.

Does this foreshadow a reappraisal of the country mainstays’ catalog? Once the dust settles re: the ska revival, we’ll have that conversation.

Kesha Showed Up To Rock With Reneé Rapp (And Diss A Certain Disgraced Rapper)

“Wake up in the morning feeling like P. Diddy ,” Kesha once rapped, in her inescapable 2009 hit “Tik Tok.” Well, that didn’t age well, and Kesha knew that. So she changed “P. Diddy” to “me” — and if that’s just going to be the official lyric now, that’s fine by the music industry. Reneé Rapp, of Mean Girls fame , bolstered her.

Mac DeMarco Joined Forces With Lil Yachty

Mac DeMarco’s been a savvy chameleon at this stage in his career, prioritizing brainy collaborations over typical album release cycles.

He has two songwriting credits on Yachty ’s game changing 2023 album Let’s Start Here , and during Yachty’s performance, he showed up to perform two of his song songs: “On The Level,” from 2017’s This Old Dog , and “Chamber of Reflection,” from his decade-old album Salad Days .

Those are just a few of the tours throughout 2023 that brought millions of fans together for great vibes, memories and music. Just some of the artists hitting the road in 2024 are Bad Bunny, Olivia Rodrigo, Drake, Noah Kahan, Madonna, The Rolling Stones, Morgan Wallen, Blink-182, Red Hot Chili Peppers and, of course, Swift, who is finishing out her Eras Tour.

AC/DC Announces 2024 ‘Power Up’ Tour Dates and New Lineup

AC/DC has announced that they will tour Europe this summer with a brand-new lineup.

The 21-date Power Up tour will kick off May 17 in Gelsenkirchen, Germany and is scheduled to conclude on Aug. 17 in Dublin, Ireland.

You can see a complete list of tour dates below. Tickets go on sale Feb. 16.

According to the band's X (formerly Twitter) posts, drummer Phil Rudd and bassist Cliff Williams will not be performing at these dates. Lead guitarist Angus Young , singer Brian Johnson and rhythm guitarist Stevie Young will be joined by Matt Laug on drums and former Jane's Addiction bassist Chris Chaney.

Rudd missed AC/DC's 2015-16 Rock or Bust tour due to his well-documented legal troubles . He returned to record 2020's Power Up album but was replaced by Laug at the group's only concert since that time, which took place in October 2023 at the Power Trip festival in Indio, Calif.

Williams announced his retirement after the Rock or Bust tour due to what he described as a bout with " terrible vertigo ," but returned for the recording of Power Up and for the Power Trip performance.

AC/DC Return From Long Layoff

The announcement comes four months after AC/DC made their triumphant return to the stage with their performance at the Power Trip festival. The gig marked the Aussie rockers’ first concert since 2016 and brought to an end the longest show-free stretch of the band’s career.

The Power Trip set was also AC/DC’s first performance since the death of founding member Malcolm Young. The rhythm guitarist was replaced by his nephew, Stevie Young, who also played on the group’s 2020 album Power Up .

AC/DC has yet to tour in support of Power Up . The album was recorded in 2018 and 2019, but released in 2020 – right as the COVID-19 pandemic brought the live music industry to a halt. Johnson, who had dealt with severe hearing loss for years, was also testing experimental hearing aid technology. At the time, he was still unsure if he’d be able to perform with AC/DC again, however a handful of successful guest appearances – including a memorable performance at the Taylor Hawkins tribute concert in London – left Johnson confident he could return to touring again.

“I walked out there, the roof lifted up off Wembley and I sang my little heart out,” he recalled of the Hawkins show . “I did two songs and the place went absolutely crackers. I think I floated off. It was absolutely wonderful. So we knew [the hearing aids] worked. We were absolutely jumping for joy at the side of the stage. It was something special.”

2024 PGA Championship odds, field: Surprising PGA picks from golf model that has hit 11 majors

Sportsline's proven model simulated the pga championship 2024 10,000 times and revealed its pga golf picks for valhalla golf club.

collin-morikawa-usatsi.jpg

The 2024 PGA Championship is quickly approaching, as Valhalla Golf Club gets set to host the world's top golfers beginning on Thursday, May 16. It's been a 2024 PGA Tour season marked by Scottie Scheffler asserting his dominance. The No. 1-ranked player in the world secured his second career major victory at the Masters and has finished on top of the leaderboard four times in 2024. He comes into the PGA Championship 2024 with momentum, but he'll be challenged by a loaded 2024 PGA Championship field that is stacked with fellow major champions, including Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Brooks Koepka and Jordan Spieth.

The latest 2024 PGA Championship odds list Scheffler as the 4-1 favorite. He's followed by Jon Rahm (9-1), McIlroy (10-1), Koepka (16-1) and Ludvig Aberg (16-1) on the PGA odds board. Tiger Woods, a 15-time major champion, is one of the 2024 PGA Championship longshots at 125-1. Before locking in any 2024 PGA Championship picks of your own, entering PGA DFS lineups on sites like DraftKings or FanDuel, or finalizing PGA Championship props and PGA Championship Pick Six entries, be sure to see the 2024 PGA Championship golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine .

Our proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, the model is up almost $10,000 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.

McClure's model correctly predicted Scottie Scheffler would finish on top of the leaderboard at the 2024 Masters, the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and The Players Championship this season. McClure also included Hideki Matsuyama in his best bets to win the 2024 Genesis Invitational. That bet hit at +9000, and for the entire tournament, McClure's best bets returned nearly $1,000.

The model also predicted Jon Rahm would be victorious at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. At the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm's second career major victory heading into the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the second straight Masters win for the model, which also nailed Scheffler winning in 2022.

In addition, McClure's best bets included Nick Taylor (70-1) winning the 2023 RBC Canadian Open, Jason Day (17-1) winning outright at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson, and Rickie Fowler (14-1) finishing on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic.

This same model has also nailed a whopping 11 majors entering the weekend and hit the Masters three straight years. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now with the PGA Championship 2024 field taking shape, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard.

Top 2024 PGA Championship predictions

One major surprise the model is calling for at the 2024 PGA Championship: Brooks Koepka, a three-time PGA champion and one of the favorites, stumbles and doesn't even crack the top 10. Koepka has five major tournament wins on his resume and a reputation for elevating his level of play in big events. However, his last two major starts haven't gone well as he was 45th at the Masters, which followed a 64th-place finish at last year's Open Championship. He's failed to shoot par in each of his last seven rounds at major tournaments.

After notching three tournament wins in 2023, including last year's PGA Championship, it has been tough sledding for Koepka in 2024. He has no victories, or even top-fives, and across his six starts, he has three times as many finishes outside the top 25 (three) as he has inside the top 10 (one). He played Valhalla at the 2014 PGA Championship and finished in a tie for 15th place, but that placement ranks just eighth out of his 11 career PGA Championship starts.

Another surprise: Collin Morikawa, a 25-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. He's a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. Morikawa has the game to finish near the top of the leaderboard at Valhalla. The 27-year-old has won six times on the PGA Tour, which includes two major championships.

Morikawa also secured a third-place finish at the 2024 Masters and enters the 2024 PGA Championship ranked fifth in driving accuracy (77.61%), 23rd in birdie average (4.33) and 27th in one-putt percentage (42.80%). He ranks just 106th in greens in regulation percentage (65.02%), but if he's striking the ball well at Valhallal, he'll have a shot at winning another major championship.  See who else to pick here .

How to make 2024 PGA Championship picks

The model is also targeting three other golfers with odds of 25-1 or longer to make a strong run at the title. Anyone who backs these longshots could hit it big. You can only see the model's picks here .

Who will win the 2024 PGA Championship, and which longshots will stun the golfing world? Check out the PGA Championship 2024 odds below and then visit SportsLine to see the projected PGA Championship leaderboard, all from the model that's nailed 11 golf majors, including the last three Masters .
