Shopping at Plaza Festival in Jakarta

Everything you need to know about shopping and enjoying late-night dining at Plaza Festival in Jakarta

Plaza Festival is a small shopping mall located in Kuningan – one of Jakarta’s best areas for shopping . People enjoy shopping at Plaza Festival, but it is also very popular with Jakartans for eating out and socializing at outdoor cafes.

The area around Plaza Festival has various malls all within a few kilometers of each other.  Unlike some of the other mega malls in Jakarta, Plaza Festival is more popular because of its restaurants and cafes opposed to its selection of stores. It isn’t the largest mall by any standards, but it is ideal for chilling out and chatting over a few late night drinks with friends.

travel pasar festival

The ground floor of Plaza Festival is particularly popular with visitors because of the outside restaurants and cafes surrounding its exterior. It is common, even late at night, to see Jakartans sitting around Plaza Festival drinking coffee or beer while watching football on the television screens outside. Finger foods are also popular here.

There is also a food court within the mall that visitors can try out. Some of the cafes are well priced and the social environment is pretty cool.

As its name suggests, Plaza Festival sometimes organizes small concerts and local events at its roadside stage.

This is more common on weekends with local performers playing some music for shoppers and people eating at the mall. Since there are so many malls within a few kilometers of Plaza Festival, it is more dining oriented opposed to offering a massive selection of international brands. You can easily drive to other malls in Kuningan if you are looking for a greater selection.

travel pasar festival

Unlike some of the other malls in Kuningan such as Kota Kasablanka , Lotte Shopping Avenue and Kuningan City Mall , Plaza Festival does not have a cinema. You can easily get to these other malls if you want to catch a movie, however.

Plaza Festival: Essential Visitor Information

Opening Times : Everyday from 10 am 10 pm, but the outdoor restaurants are open late!!

Address:  Epicentrum, Kav. C, Jl. H. R. Rasuna Said No.22, RT.2/RW.5, Karet Kuningan, Kecamatan Setiabudi, Kota Jakarta Selatan, Daerah Khusus Ibukota Jakarta 12940

What is around Plaza Festival in Kuningan, Jakarta?

Plaza Festival is a popular choice for cafes and restaurants, but consider visiting one of its neighboring malls if you want to get some serious shopping done.

Shopping Malls

Mall Ambassador is one of the most popular shopping malls near Plaza Festival and for good reason.

Mall Ambassador has an excellent selection of affordable electronic shops selling everything from video cameras, computers to the latest cell phones. Its top two floors also have a good selection of local restaurants and snacks like waffles and bubble tea.

There are also affordable salons and barbershops throughout Mall Ambassador that are great value.

Directly beside and physically-attached by a pedestrian bridge to Mall Ambassador is ITC Kuningan .

ITC Kuningan is also an affordable shopping center with electronics and cheap products like belts, socks and other accessories.

Across the road from ITC Kuningan is Lotte Shopping Avenue .

Lotte Shopping Avenue is a larger and more modern-looking shopping center than both Mall Ambassador and ITC Kuningan. It has more upscale brand names and a large department store in addition to a cinema. Lotte Shopping Avenue has nice, wide aisles and it tends to be less crowded than these other malls.

Lotte Shopping Avenue is also popular for visitors to the city because it is physically attached to Raffles Jakarta . This is widely considered to be the most luxurious 5-star hotel in all of Jakarta.

If you stay at Raffles you can also avoid Jakarta’s traffic while shopping at your own convenience.

The other two malls in this area of Kuningan within close proximity of Plaza Festival are Kuningan City Mall and Kota Kasablanka . Both of these are large shopping centers with a wide selection of international chains and international restaurants. They both have cinemas.

A guide to Moscow’s summer festivals

Believe it or not, in summer Moscow usually gets rather hot. It’s also the season when the city is fully awake, with more events happening than at any other time of the year. Almost every weekend a new market, exhibition or festival takes place, making it pretty hard to choose which one to attend.

Of course, the highlight of this summer in the Russian capital will be the celebration of football, as Moscow gets ready to host the 2018 FIFA World Cup (from 14 June to 15 July) along with 10 other cities across the country. Nevertheless, over the years some big annual events have become an integral – and fun – part of Moscow’s summer culture. Here are our top picks.

Usadba Jazz at Arkhangelskoe

This iconic open-air jazz festival has been taking place in Moscow for over a decade, making it one of the city’s favourite outdoor events. The location is always the same – the gorgeous 19th-century  Arkhangelskoe Estate and its surroundings. Apart from some great classical and modern jazz, blues, funk, soul and world music, there’s a new theme each year: in 2017 it was ecology, introducing some local eco-designers and culinary artists to jazz-loving Muscovites.

Dates: 2–3 June 2018

Red Square Book Fest

This year Moscow’s annual book festival will be taking over the historic Red Square for the fourth time. The event celebrates the reading culture, introduces the best local publishing houses, and allows visitors to purchase books, attend masterclasses and listen to some well-known modern Russian writers. The program covers several themes, including fiction, non-fiction, ebooks, children’s and educational literature, antique and secondhand books, as well as Russian regions.  Famous Russian museums present their publishing projects and catalogues, and there are live concerts and performances throughout the festival.

Dates: 3–6 June 2018

Moscow Flower Show

Who knew Moscow could be a rose? Last year a new sort of rose was created just to celebrate the 870th anniversary of the Russian capital. This international garden festival is a paradise for the admirers of landscape design and all things green and blooming. Both recognised and up-and-coming landscape designers present their works and compete for the main prize, awarded by an international jury. And visitors get a chance to release their inner flower child.

Dates: 29 June–8 July 2018

Taste of Moscow

This international food festival   has been around for a long time, covering 19 cities of the world and gaining huge popularity in Moscow. The city’s 30 best restaurants will take part in the program this year, offering visitors their most renowned dishes and products. You can treat yourself to delicacies from one of the exclusive menus created specifically for the festival, attend degustations or learn how to cook from a professional chef. The interactive program will also include concerts, masterclasses, pop-up performances and children’s activities.

Much loved by both locals and visitors to the city, the annual Park Live rock festival has achieved international status in its six years of existence, treating the fans with performances from world-famous and local rock stars. Hosting Muse in 2015 has been the highlight in the festival’s history, while Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lana Del Rey, Limp Bizkit and System of a Down have also headlined. In 2018 revellers will have a chance to see David Guetta, Gorillaz and Massive Attack at the vibrant Gorky Park  in the heart of the city.

Dates: 27–29 July 2018

Afisha Picnic

Moscow’s biggest open-air festival is a summer rave for food and music lovers. Organized by Afisha magazine, it’s been expanding year on year, eventually moving from concert halls and stadiums to the vast Kolomenskoe Museum-Reserve , a former royal estate and a Unesco World Heritage Site by the Moscow River. The organisers make sure there’s lots going on, so apart from multiple music stages you can find food stalls with local products, a designers’ market, gaming and lecture areas – all with a strict no-alcohol policy.

Times and Epochs

The ultimate historical festival in Russia expands with each passing year, taking over Moscow parks, recreational areas and some of the main streets. It brings together the best from the world of historical re-enactment, boasting more than 6000 geeky participants in 2017 (many of them from abroad). Soldiers, merchants, craftsmen, musicians all walk the streets in traditional costumes, performing or teaching the arts, crafts and games of the past. Best of all, the festival is focused on getting the audience involved in the lifestyles of different eras, from the Stone Age to the Soviet times.

Dates: 10–22 August 2018

Moscow City Day

Moscow turned 870 in 2017, and to celebrate the occasion, the city administration decided to host a 10-day festival under the slogan ‘Moscow is a city where history is being made’. With Russian avant-garde the main theme, dozens of events, lectures, performances and street markets celebrated the history of the capital as well as its prominent inhabitants. Plenty of music, food and modern art is always to be expected on the city streets during this time. Don’t miss the magnificent fireworks.

Dates: 1–10 September 2018

04 May 2021

Apart from being the most populated city and the capital of Russia, Moscow is the main economic, political, scientific and cultural center of the country as well. It is a well-known place for witnessing wonderful architecture, more specifically the ancient buildings that have been standing in all its glory for such a long time now. There are several museums in Moscow that present you with the unique, exceptional and original Russian style. Moreover, it is the grand festivals in Moscow that make it one of the most preferred destinations among the tourists.

Top 6 Festivals In Moscow

The most loved festivals in the capital of Russia are an astounding blend of Russian history, religion, and music. In addition to religious events such as Christmas and Easter, a lot of music and food festivals in Moscow are also celebrated throughout the year.

1. The Orthodox Christmas

The Orthodox Christmas

After the revolution of 1917, Christmas was banned in the country just like the other celebrations and it was only in the year of 1992 when it was observed openly again. Almost all the Russians celebrate the occasion of Christmas on January 7 when the families get together to attend the church services that take places on the Christmas Eve i.e., 6 January. It is considered one of the most religious Russian Moscow festival celebrations when people enjoy their ‘holy supper’ including a dish made of porridge with the raisins known as Kutia. On either the Christmas Night or the Christmas Eve, you also have the opportunity to attend the conventional midnight mass in the beautiful Russian Church. There are many people who like to stay awake all the night at the church while others prefer to visit the churches on the Christmas Morning itself.

'This is a really good one' | 34th annual Arcata Bay Oyster Festival packs the Arcata Plaza

J un. 15—The 34th annual Arcata Bay Oyster Festival electrified the Arcata Plaza on Saturday with music from live bands, art vendors, drinks and plenty of good eats with thousands spending their day under the sun consuming oysters.

The first Arcata Bay Oyster Festival was held back in 1990, and since then, the festival has developed into the lovely, sometimes odd, reflection of Arcata it is today.

"This is probably my 15th year or something like that, so I have it a little dialed but it's a lot of work. It's worth it though, it's a good community event," restaurant 511 chef Josh Wiley said. "There's a lot of paperwork, a lot of red tape and emails and whatever to get all of the permitting plus coordinating with your oyster people, the vendors, coordinating the deliveries and then staffing, making the sauces — it's a whole thing."

Wiley says that he purchased 3,000 oysters for Saturday's festival, which is actually a decrease from 4,000 oysters in 2023.

"Last year doing 4,000, it was a little much," Wiley said of his choice to cut down to 3,000 oysters this year. "We were out here a little longer than I had wanted to be so I cut it back."

Along with the oysters, Wiley noted that the profits from the festival aren't quite at the levels as it has been in years past.

"Yeah, it used to be better, but it's still profitable," Wiley said. "A lot of people want their cut, right? It's fun though, still a good event."

The Oyster Fest brings out so much more to downtown Arcata than just seafood itself, the festival Saturday had multiple venues for live music, food trucks lined up around the plaza and small businesses an opportunity to sell their goods, with one example being Marmalade Sky, a tie-dye business who sells products at events like Oyster Fest and online at their Etsy shop, first found the passion selling their products from Grateful Dead tours.

"I used to do Grateful Dead tours a long time ago and once that stopped, I started doing festivals here in Humboldt," Marmalade Sky's owner Fred Huff said. "The Grateful Dead took you everywhere so I visited here a couple times and realized I loved this."

Huff has now been working on his tie-dyed products for 20 years, but this year was his first time as a vendor at OysterFest.

"I do all sorts of festivals, I do Reggae on the River, Cannifest, 4th of July right here on the Plaza, North Country Fair," Huff said. "This is a good one, this is a really good one. This and Reggae are probably my best ones."

While it's not quite the same as the Grateful Dead shows thirty-plus years ago, Huff said that parts of Arcata remind him of those feelings, which is why he's stuck around in the area after being born in St. Louis, Missouri.

"Just the openness of it, how everybody is pretty laid back and accepting of whatever you're about," Huff said. "There's no judgment, everybody appreciates good art."
