This snorkel helps to prevent damage to your Land Rover by raising the level of the air intake to roof level. Not only useful when wading, snorkels help to prevent damaged caused by dust and sand kicked up when on expedition. Fitted to the right hand side of the vehicle.

The Safari 550HF snorkel is tough and stylish and has been designed to deliver a huge volume of the coolest and cleanest air possible into the stock air cleaner assembly of the 300 Series Defender Land Rover. The genuine Safari Snorkel body and air ram is manufactured to the highest standards in durable, UV stable, cross linked polyethylene material In addition, the substantial material wall thickness delivers huge physical strength to ensure that the snorkel breezes through the toughest off-road conditions on the planet. The Safari Snorkel system is supplied as a complete and comprehensive system that includes every nut, bolt and bracket required for installation - right from robust zero-corrosion stainless steel studs, stainless steel self-locking nyloc nuts and large diameter stainless steel body washers through to the tough plastic A-pillar inserts.

How to fit a safari snorkel to a 300tdi defender.

Thanks to being the lucky recipient of a Safari Snorkel for my Birthday and many Christmases to come, I managed to get a Safari Snorkel fitted to the Landy last week.

It was all fairly straight forward and I forgot to take many photos. The most intimidating bit for me was drilling the holes in the body work, making sure I had the template spot on etc.

On the existing induction pipe work, I sealed up the drain valve in the tee piece, for this I used Sika flex to seal the flap shut, then completely filled in the drain appeture with more of the stuff. I tested this when I finished by blocking the top of the Snorkel.

Once the holes were drilled, I fitted the neoprene gasket for the Snorkel to the body of the Snorkel using some Sika flex sealant, I also did the same with the windscreen mount gasket.

Once these were dry, I test fitted the lot with plain nuts rather than nylocs, so that I could find the location to drill the windscreen frame.

A lick of paint on the holes and then some more sealant around all the holes will keep the water out.

The windscreen mount is secured with self tappers, five in total. I left the bolts for the snorkel body on the windscreen mount loose, until I tightened up the wing securing bolts using nylocs.

The wing gasket had copious amounts of sealant around it, this is not really to keep water out of the snorkel though, more just to keep the holes sealed. The design of the Safari Snorkel is such that it does not depend on the wing seal. The whole upright section is continuos unit until the hose fits to it for the induction system, meaning that there are fewer potential failure failure points, that other designs.

Safari snorkel template 300Tdi Defender

Does anybody know if an electronic version of the template for the Safari snorkels can be downloaded from anywhere as a PDF or graphic, to be printed?

My 110 needs a new wing fitted due to an altercation with a passing lump of concrete (yes really - the vehicle was stationary and a concrete block crashed into it) and I would like to drill the snorkel mounting holes before the wing panel is painted and fitted, but I can't measure the old wing until the snorkel is off the vehicle and I don't have the template.

Fitting guide here for TD & 200Tdi might help & might help too

I know how it fits (fitted 3) just need the template to drill the holes in the right place relative to the wing duct

my thinking was as one link shows the template, you could save it as a jpg file then in paint or similar programme increase it to real size & print it off to use, but maybe I'm being daft.

What I did on my discovery snorkel was to cut a peace of card just a little wide that the snorkel. I then cut out the hole for the pipe and the 4 mounting holes. Place the template and snorkel on the wing, once in place use some tape to hold the template on the wing remove the snorkel and drill the mounting holes.

can you scan/post a copy for the tech archive?

if any 1 has a template for a 200tdi disco please let me know.
