"We had our tour booked well in advance of our departure date.

It was going to be an absolute dream come true for us. But, soon after we booked our tour, we found out another dream of ours was about to come true: the birth of our first grandchild!

As it turns out, our daughter in-law was due to have a baby while we would have been in Italy! I called Collette and they gave us a full refund minus the cost of the travel protection. Italy can wait, but babies do not!

Since we did not lose our money, we can come back to book a new tour once our little miracle arrives. Thanks for having us covered, Collette!”

go ahead tours any reason protection

We are planning a tour for this year and on searching the internet came across the Go Ahead Tours Canada website. After going through the site thoroughly we found the following discrepancies:

a) Unlike other websites, the Go Ahead Tours website makes no upfront, let alone clear, mention of what's included and what's not included in the pricing. This seems to be a tactic of concealing charges that the local guides/tour operators might charge unsuspecting customers once the tour is on, leaving customers with no choice but to pay up.

b) The website also mentions "Once you're on tour, you can get in touch at any time thanks to our team of 24/7 Emergency Support Specialists.", although nowhere is the emergency contact # or name/s mentioned. Again, this seems to be the same cover-up as mentioned in a) above, leaving the customer in the lurch once anything goes wrong whilst on the tour, to be left at the mercy of the tour operator/guide.

Even if it were mentioned, it looks to be just a marketing and sales strategy to coerce new customers into letting their guard down while in the process of shopping for a tour.

c) The website provides conflicting and ambiguous information regarding tipping: (note the conflicting usage of terms "driver" and guide", as also the different amounts of tips suggested)

"We recommend tipping the equivalent of $7USD to $10USD per person per day for your Tour Director and the equivalent of $3USD per person per day for your driver."

"Meet your guide the morning of your first full day on tour. He or she will act as both your tour guide-and-driver for the duration of your tour." . "At the conclusion of your tour, it’s customary to offer your driver/guide a gratuity in USD. We recommend tipping the equivalent of $8USD to $10USD per person per day."

"We also recommend $2USD per local guide."

"You can also expect to be solicited for tips from the hospitality and restaurant staff that you encounter. Leaving as little as the equivalent of $1USD is greatly appreciated"

This clearly also attempts at coercing the customer to pay tips, whilst the tour organizer gets its profit unhindered. Shows that they themselves indeed care little about supporting locals by paying them very little and passing their burden onto the customer, on top of the full pricing. Shameful.

d) Con tactics with the Toronto office:

The website mentions that the Toronto office is open 7 days a week, with timings clearly displayed. We wished to meet personally with anyone to discuss our plans in choosing a tour as well as to clear some doubts.

Called the office on a Saturday afternoon prior to going over to the office, and the line seemed busy, as we were kept on hold with a voice prompts mentioning to hold as the reps were busy, until someone will be able to take the call. Waited on hold for five minutes, then decided to hang up and visit the office directly.

We went to 80 Bloor St. West and the building was empty. Security let us to the 16th floor, mentioning that Education Funds, parent company of Go Ahead Tours, is not open.

We found both sets of glass doors closed, and all cubicles empty, monitors turned off dark. We knocked a few times on both doors, but there was nobody to reply.

Any respectable tour operator would not be as callous as this example. The website lies and the phone greeting on hold cons one into thinking that the office is busy and open.

In the case of Go Ahead Tours, the term "Caveat Emptor" screams in their favor!!

<In the case of Go Ahead Tours, the term "Caveat Emptor" screams in their favor!!>

Actually, for me, it screams - do your research better next time. Sadly, very few people come to TripAdvisor to search on tour agencies or OTA’s. But, they sure seem to find TA when they’re angry after the fact.

Go Ahead tours has been around for many yrs and does tours all over the world. There was a thread on Go Ahead on TA that ran for yrs with hundreds of postings. You can always find someone with a complaint but for the most part Go Ahead has good reviews. Understand that many UK tour operators net everything down and don't include a lot of meals. Not sure why your dealing with the Toronto office. The main north American office is near Boston. Its rare to have someone come to the office to book a tour.

As stated in the 2nd reply Go Ahead Tours has been around for years and is not a sham what so ever. Go Ahead Tours is part of EF Tours that has been used by schools throughout America and other countries for years. I and my wife have used them 5 times over the past 10 years. Tipping may be a pain, but it is required and you are informed up front. Nothing hidden there. The first responder knows zero about them. They provide you with a main tour guide and with local tour guides (tips are how the guides make money). Add $70 plus for tips. Of course do your own research.

a) I've taken tours myself, but each time I only booked once i was satisfied that I knew what was included in the base price and what wa soging to be extra. If this was not clear, I would not proceed.

b) I'm not sure that this wold matter one jot to me. But then I expect to be able to fend for myself, I have travel insurance and I make sure that I know how to contact them if needs be. I don't know what I would want to contact the tour operator's emergency support team for.

c) I don't understand this one, I'm afraid. The US has a tipping culture, so I'm not sure why you're complaining about their guidelines on tipping. Anyway, in my experience tours sometimes have drivers and separate directors/guides, with local guides being used as well for particular places. Sometimes there is only a driver, who also acts as tour director and a very limited guide. They are just trying to cover all eventualities, as things are dependent on the tour.

d) If the office in Toronto is open to the public then I would expect the times stated to be accurate. I don't think that the phones ringing is necessarily a con, because they could well have outsourced their customer service functions like so many companies have. Even if they haven't, it may not be based in Toronto, and calls may be diverted elsewhere if they are.

Hello from EF Go Ahead Tours!

We’re so glad that you have found our website and our tour offerings. As a part of one of the largest private education companies, we are proud to have over 50 years of experience in the travel industry.

Go Ahead tries to be as clear as possible about the pricing of our tour options on our website by highlighting how many hotel nights, meals, and sight seeing tours are included on each and every tour. You can find this information under “Tour Overview”, where you will also find included highlights and information on the tour pace.

When it comes to our tipping recommendations, our intention is to best prepare our travelers with suggestions on how much to tip the local experts they’ll encounter on tour. Those experts include a Tour Director, who stays with the tour group from beginning to end to handle the logistics of the itinerary, a local tour guide that is licensed to give historical and educational tours of each city on the tour, and a bus driver that efficiently and safely drives our travelers to and from these cities and attractions.

We’re also proud to provide 24/7 support to Go Ahead travelers while they’re on tour should any kind emergency arise. We have a dedicated team of trained specialists that can be reached either while on tour or within 24 hours of departure for tour. The details on this emergency phone number are provided to our travelers in the final mailing package sent prior to the tour’s departure, or travelers can call our 1-800 number and indicate that they are experiencing an on-tour emergency.

Lastly, as our website mentions, our phone lines are open 7 days a week so that we can be as accessible to our travelers as possible. However, our phone staff in our Boston and Denver offices are staffed to answer these calls over the weekends, which is why there may not have been any staff in our Toronto office when you stopped by on a Saturday.

We hope this information is helpful and we would love to see you on a Go Ahead tour with us in the future. If you’re near any of our offices anytime soon, we’re happy to give you a tour and introduce you to the Go Ahead team!

I traveled to Sicily w Go Ahead a few years ago and it was a great trip

Looking into Puglia w them

Agree their website could be more user friendly

Yes this is a scam tour operator. They do not follow their own cancellation rules. According to their rules optional excursions can be cancelled up to 3 days prior to departure yet when we had to cancel our entire tour due to illness they made us pay 50% of everything including the excursions. They even had the nerve to say that if we had cancelled the excursions first and then a few days later the tour we would not have been charged 50% of the excursions. DO NOT BOOK WITH TH|EM !!

go ahead tours any reason protection

The full itinerary is on the website, everything mentioned is included. It tells you which meals are included. It says what the optional excursions are (you can choose to go on those or not, you pay extra for those.)

One time we stopped on the way from one town to another at a restaurant for lunch, which was not included in the price. The restaurant was kind of in the middle of nowhere, so there were no other options if we stopped there. The tour guide told us on the bus that he wanted to stop at this restaurant that had good food, and how much it cost, and said that we needed to all agree if we wanted to stop there. Of course we all agreed because he said it had good food, and it was one of the best meals I've ever eaten. But if one person had said no, we would have driven on to find another place, It wasn't forced upon us.

No complaints here, definitely not a sham.

The best places to visit in 2024 and 2025 to see the northern lights

Have you ever dreamt of seeing the northern lights? These mysterious light shows have captured our collective curiosity for as long as human beings have been on the planet. Did you know that there’s a Japanese myth that says the northern lights were the spirits of babies waiting to be born? Norse legends tell many stories about the Valkyries, or ancient warrior women; one tale claims that the northern lights was light reflecting off their weapons, shields, and helmets.

The northern lights—or as they’re also called: the Aurora Borealis—are considered one of the most awe-inspiring natural occurrences in the world. And like any nature-based experience, their elusive nature makes seeing them a bucket list item for travelers all over the world. If you’re lucky enough to live within the Arctic Circle, where they’re typically most visible, this may be old news to you, but for the rest of us, seeing the northern lights could be a once-in-a-lifetime thrill. Scientists are predicting that 2024 and 2025 will be the best time to see the northern lights—and we’ve got the tours that will get you there.

Donald Trump found guilty: Will he go to prison? What to know ahead of sentencing

Donald Trump is the first former president convicted of a crime and now he could be the first one sent to jail or prison.

Trump was found guilty of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records, opening up the possibility that he could be incarcerated .

Not only is Trump the first former president be convicted of a crime, he is also the presumptive Republican nominee lined up for a likely rematch with President Joe Biden in November.

Even though jail time is on the table for his conviction, he is expected to appeal the jury's decision. Legal experts told USA TODAY any jail or prison sentence likely won't take effect until after his appeal plays out, pushing it past the November election.

Here is what to know about a possible incarceration sentence:

Prep for the polls: See who is running for president and compare where they stand on key issues in our Voter Guide

Live updates: Former President Donald Trump found guilty on all counts in NY criminal hush money case

Can Trump go to prison?

Yes. Each felony count of falsifying business records − elevated to a felony because prosecutors proved the purpose was to commit or conceal another crime − carries a maximum sentence of four years. However, New York caps such sentencing the type of felonies Trump faced – Class E felonies –  at 20 years .

Some New York litigators and legal experts told USA TODAY that Trump is likely to face only probation.

"With a defendant who has no prior criminal record, my absolute expectation would be a sentence of probation," Mitchell Epner, a New York litigator with decades of experience, said ahead of the trial.

Others said jail or prison time is very much on the table, but likely under four years and potentially limited to months.

Norman Eisen, a Brookings Institution senior fellow who served as special counsel to the House Judiciary Committee during Trump's first impeachment, co-authored a report looking at sentencing for other defendants with no criminal history who were convicted of falsifying business records in New York.

Eisen noted one construction executive was sentenced in 2015 to spend two days per week in jail for a year for falsifying records to hide payments in a bribery scheme. In 2013, two corporate executives were sentenced to between four and six months of jail time for falsifying records to misclassify their salaries as expenses under their employer's larger bribery and fraud scheme.

"This is a case that does not involve any physical violence, and it doesn't – there's not sort of a 'named victim,' so to speak – and so the court is going to take that into consideration," Anna Cominsky, who directs the Criminal Defense Clinic at New York Law School, told USA TODAY.

Cominsky added, however, that it will "be very dependent on – and also very interesting to see – what the prosecutor asks for."

At a press conference following the verdict, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg declined to preview what he will recommend to the judge.

Experts weigh in: If Trump is found guilty, will Americans still be able to vote for him?

When will Trump be sentenced?

Judge Juan Merchan will issue Trump's sentence in a July 11 hearing. Merchan instructed Trump's defense team to file any post-conviction motions by June 13, and told the prosecution to respond by June 27. Those filings could include arguments from both sides about Trump's sentence.

Defendants are sometimes "remanded" pending sentencing, or kept in custody while they wait for their sentence.

But legal experts told USA TODAY that is unlikely in this case.

Can Trump bring the Secret Service to jail?

Even before the conviction, logistical questions about Trump going to jail came up when he repeatedly violated a gag order restricting his public comments on witnesses and jurors.

Among those questions is how the Secret Service will continue to work with Trump. He receives around-the-clock protection as a former president, which no judge has previously had to consider in a sentencing.

"If I were the judge − and I don't know what a judge would do in this case − I would reject out of hand the concept that because he was once president, and because as a matter of policy the Secret Service guards former presidents, that therefore he can't go to jail," said John Moscow, a New York lawyer who spent 30 years in the Manhattan District Attorney's Office.

Moscow told USA TODAY ahead of the trial that the judge could get creative – for example, order the former president to stay in a hotel wing or military base.

Merchan previously threatened to jail Trump if he continued to violate a gag order in the case, even as the judge acknowledged concerns about Trump's Secret Service protection.

"There are many reasons why incarceration is truly a last resort," Merchan said on May 6 of the trial . While he said he didn't want to jail Trump over the gag order, he would "if necessary and appropriate."
