13+ Day Trips and Tours to Take in Manila, Philippines

Pin this post for later!

The city of Manila is often referred to as the ‘Pearl of the Orient’, and although it has endured many hardships in its past, is now a thriving city with many things to see and do.

As well as some outstanding sightseeing opportunities, those that delve a little deeper will be able to uncover the town’s more creative and cultural side, such as in the ancient district of Intramuros.

The surrounding area is also beautiful and fascinating and can be explored in more detail with a range of day trips from Manila on offer.

It may be surprising to some to see the chaos in the metropolis and then within an hour or two be amongst the lushness of nature hiking a volcano or staring down at a massive lake.

Don’t be intimidated by the congested concrete jungle that you see before you and try digging a bit deeper. Beneath the surface, you’ll see the charismatic mixture of Spanish colonial architecture mingling with modern skyscrapers alongside a hodgepodge of urban dwellings, all begging for you to uncover its history.

While some of these spots on the list are possible to visit without a tour there’s always that sense of “what am I actually looking at” when you don’t have a knowledgeable local guide. So if you’re truly interested in what this city has to offer, I implore you to reach out and book a tour in Manila to get the real stories.

Intramuros is a fascinating place to explore, as the oldest place in Manila, it has a wealth of historic landmarks and a rich culture.

The 3G: God, Gold, & Glory Tour is our basic tour program and takes 3 hours to complete. It covers the basics of Philippine history and culture, particularly the foundation of the Philippines as a colony through Spain’s conquest of our islands. We go through the entire Spanish Colonial history of the Philippines and explain why the Spanish colonial experience is the root of many Filipino cultural idiosyncrasies. Basically, this tour will tell you why the Filipinos are the way they are today.

The 3GX: God, Gold, & Glory EXTENDED Tour on the other hand, is our best-selling program and takes 4.5 hours to complete. It is an upgraded version of the 3G tour and covers ALL of the major segments of Philippine history from the Spanish Colonial Era, to the American Era, all the way to World War II in the Philippines. It is everything the basic 3G Tour is, and more! This is the tour to take if you love history.

Tourism is a really important industry for the heart and soul of the Philippines. Manila has several notable tourist attractions, including national parks, cultural heritage landmarks, and museums. This city is also the main shopping hub in Asia, thanks to the numerous shopping centers located around the metropolis.

Luis later sold the property to Colonel Jose of the Spanish Army in 1802. In 1825, the property was purchased by the state.

For those looking for an overnight accommodation, you can find nearby bed-and-breakfasts like MGM Farm Resort , which is a farm resort featuring its own heritage houses and a farm where you can do animal feeding and more.

Villa Escudero - one of the best family-friendly resorts near Manila

Looking for a relaxing getaway for the family? Villa Escudero is one of the best day trips from Manila that you should consider.

Villa Escudero is located in Tiaong, Quezon Province, just a few hours from Manila. It was originally a coconut plantation owned by the Escudero Family until it was opened to the public in the 1980s. The villa is mostly famous for its unique waterfall dining, where you can enjoy local delicacies with flowing water beneath your feet.

Besides the waterfall restaurant, this resort offers different activities including a plantation tour, swimming in the pool or lake, fishing, boating, cycling, and more. You can also visit its museum where you can learn more about the unique heritage of Filipinos.

Corregidor Island is another day trip option for history lovers. Situated at the entrance of Manila Bay, this historic island has a significant role during the WWII. Specifically, it served as a strategic miliatry outpost and one of the key defense positions for the Allied Forces, which guard the entrance to Manila Bay.

You can visit Corregidor Island on a day tour to learn about stories of heroism and sacrifice, visit the Malinta Tunnel — a bomb-proof bunker turned into a hospital and command center during the war, and see the island’s war memorials, ruins, and batteries. Aside from the historical tour, you can also take a short break and enjoy the island’s picturesque coastline, which offers panoramic views of Manila Bay.

The town of Angono in Rizal is an artist’s haven and perfect for those who want to learn more about the arts and culture in the country. It is considered the “Art Capital of the Philippines” due to its rich artistic heritage and the presence of numerous art galleries and museums. Notably, it is also home of the National Artists Carlos “Botong” Francisco and Lucio San Pedro.

You can explore the town and visit the Angono Petrogylphs , which consists of 127 engraving of animal and human figures along a rock wall, estimated to date back in the Neolithic Period or before 2000 BC. You can also visit the best museums in town including Botong Francisco Museum , Blanco Family Museum , Nemiranda Arthouse and Gallery , Atelier Museum , and the nearby Pinto Art Museum . Another place that you shouldn’t miss is the Municipal Hall , where you can see various local craftsmanship.

After your town tour, head to the Angolo Lakeside to relax and watch the sunset.

Pinto Art Museum in Antipolo

Pinto Art Museum is another attraction in Antipolo that you should visit for a fun Manila day tour. It’s ideal not just for art and history lovers, but anyone who wants to experience a vibrant and immersive art experience.

This museum is known for its IG-worthy Mediterranean-inspired architecture, open-air galleries showcasing modern and contemporary Filipino art, sculpture gardens where you can rest and appreciate the blend of nature and local craftmanship, and cafes where you can enjoy local snacks and refreshments. The exhibitions at Pinto Art Museum are regularly rotated, so you can see new displays the next time you visit.

The museum is just a short distance away from Luljetta’s Hanging Gardens and Spa, and we recommend visiting the two destinations in a day. Head for the museum in the morning and then spend the rest of the day relaxing at Luljetta’s.

Luljetta's Hanging Gardens and Spa infinity pool

There are many spa and wellness centers in Manila, but if you’re looking for something a little farther away from the city, then check out Luljetta’s Hanging Gardens and Spa . It’s located in Antipolo, about 1 hour away from the city, and can easily be visited whether you’re commuting or driving your own car.

Luljetta’s Hanging Gardens Spa is the first of its kind in the Philippines. It offers panoramic views of the city and features infinity pools, jacuzzi, and various recreational rooms. It’s also famous for its traditional massages and body wraps. Of course, a visit here wouldn’t be complete without visiting their on-site restaurant for a traditional snack of Antipolo suman and fresh juice.

Skimboarding in Liwliwa, Zambales

Liwliwa Beach in San Felipe, Zambales, is a great place to unwind, soak up the sun, and surf. It’s a bit far from Manila with about 4 hours of driving distance but it is certainly doable as a day trip especially if you’re bringing your own car.

The best thing to do here is enjoy the slow and steady beach life. Head to one of the Liwliwa beachfront resorts or glamping sites which offer day tours, have a picnic at your cottage, and chill at the beach. The waves at Liwliwa is ideal for beginners, so if you’re up for some adventure, get a 1-hour surfing lesson and join the locals in enjoying the refreshing waters of the ocean.

Mount Daraitan is a favorite hiking destination among outdoor enthusiasts. Located in Rizal, it’s often visited as a day trip along with Tinipak River.

The mountain takes about 3 hours to hike. It’s classified as beginner-friendly, but don’t take the route lightly — it is mostly steep ascents and assaults. At the summit, you will be rewarded with panoramic views of the Sierra Madre mountain range, the winding Tinipak River, and the nearby provinces of Rizal and Quezon.

After the tiring activity, head to Tinipak River for a cool and refreshing swim. You can also appreciate the limestone formations surrounding the river and hop on a raft for a relaxing cruise.

Located in Batangas, Mount Gulugod Baboy is a popular hiking spot near Manila. The name “gulugod baboy” means “pig’s spine,” which refers to the mountain’s ridgeline resembling the back of a pig.

The route to the summit is relatively easy, making it suitable for beginner hikers. There is also a parking spot near the summit, so you can drive all the way there and then walk up the remaining 15 minutes to the top. At the summit, you will be rewarded with a breathtaking 360-degree view of the ocean and surrounding landscapes.

For those who wish to stay overnight, there are designated camping areas where you can pitch a tent and spend the night under the stars, enjoying the peace and quiet in the mountain.

Mount Gulugod Baboy is also close to popular snorkeling and dive sites in Batangas,

Pandin Lake - bamboo raft

The town of San Pablo in Laguna is home to seven lakes , including the twin lakes of Pandin and Yambo. You can go on a day trip to one of them or visit both to make the most of your time. Each location offers a chance to swim in the lake and enjoy a picnic in a floating cottage, where you can taste freshly grilled tilapia cooked by the locals.

The Twin Lakes of Laguna is one of the most relaxing Manila day trips you can do. It’s ideal for families or those who simply want to enjoy a short city break.

This animal shelter in Teresa, Rizal, is a perfect destination for animal lovers! MBY Pet Rescue and Sanctuary is home to about 600 stray cats and dogs. You can go for a visit to volunteer and share your love with the furry animals. It’s good for their well-being and yours too. Of course, you can also bring food and other donations.

Philippines Island Explorer 13 day Tour

  • Island Hopping

Philippines Island Explorer 13 day

The Intro Philippines tour was one of the best trips I've done! It was adventurous, packed with plenty of water activites, and as a solo traveller it was a great way to meet people. We had Andri as our tour leader - even before the tour started he was welcoming and helpful - he gave great suggestions for activities in Manila as I arrived early. During the tour he was always approachable, knowledgeable, fun and engaging. The tour flowed so smoothly, making for a stress free holiday as we weren't worried about logistics - just left to enjoy an adventure-packed holiday. The best part by far was the 3 day, 2 night boat expedition from Coron to El Nido, where we spent our days relaxing amongst the most beautiful islands, snorkelling, sleeping in island huts and playing volleyball with locals. I couldn't fault Andri as our group leader, and highly recommend both him and the Intro Philippines tour.

Ifugao Villages Trek Tour

  • Hiking & Trekking

Ifugao Villages Trek

This tour was by far one of the most amazing experiences of my life. This was my first time travelling to a Southeast Asian country by myself but I felt safe and welcomed the entire time. I enjoyed observing beautiful rice terraces, meeting friendly village people, and learning lots about Ifugao culture from my tour guide. The opportunity to stay in a guest house in one of the small villages gave me the chance to truly appreciate the simplistic life of the village people. My tour guide, Marvin Bunaton was a wonderful guide to have. He gave me lots of valuable information about Ifugao culture and made sure I was safe the entire time. I am very lucky to have had him as a tour guide. I recommend this trip to everyone who loves hiking and beautiful sceneries! If I ever come back to the Philippines, I will bring my loved ones and do this tour all over again!

The items on the daily programmes (brochure) did not always match reality (shortened or skipped). That should be monitored or revised by operator. Other than that a good tour.

Sagada & Banaue Rice Terraces 4-Day Tour Tour

Sagada & Banaue Rice Terraces 4-Day Tour

When I found information about this tour to Sagada and Banaue online, it already had such high reviews, but after experiencing the tour for myself, I would rate it even higher! This trip, guided by the wonderful Zohan, is extremely unique in large part due to the personal touches, stories, and intentional cultural experiences Zohan added to the itinerary. Though the tour is listed for all ages, I would specifically recommend for those ages 18-50 or so. There is quite a bit of hiking, walking, an overnight bus both ways, and lots of carrying of luggage. To participate in this trip, one must be eager to learn, open-minded to experience other cultures, and physically fit.

The Tour Operator was very quick to respond to WhatsApp messages. The drivers were all friendly and the hotels were all comfortable. Sometimes, our day tours did not match what was written in our itinerary however, and also some admission fees were not included although the itinerary said only environmental fees were not included. Some included meals were better than others. Pickup times were either printed on our itinerary or communicated via WhatsApp, but the drivers showed up super early twice and other times were later than the stated time. The problems resulting from the volcano eruption also could have been handled better. Overall, an enjoyable trip and good value for the price, but there were definitely areas for improvement.

10 Days Do The Philippines Adventure Tour - Palawan Islands Tour

10 Days Do The Philippines Adventure Tour - Palawan Islands

This was an amazing 10 day tour of the Palawan islands in the Philippines. Starting at Puerto Prinsesa we journeyed up north through El Nido to Coron. Visiting must see locations with breathtaking views, it truly is an experience of a lifetime. The food was amazing and greatly exceeded all expectations, and our tour guide Jovian was excellent. He was so friendly and lively, doing his best to accommodate everyone, and make sure everything runs smoothly. He was very supportive of me and went above and beyond when I had an unfortunate injury at one of the beaches we went to. Overall the trip wouldn’t have been the same without him, he was one of the many highlights on this tour.

What people love about Manila Tours

Loved this tour! Was the perfect mix of activities and group time and relaxation / solo time. The 2 day island hopping with overnight stay on the remote island is one of the best experiences I’ve ever had! Our tour guide cece was amazing too and made it really fun and involved everyone. Best snorkelling I’ve ever done too! Definitely recommending to friends and will be booking another one life tour in the future
AJ our tour guide was amazing
This was one of the best trips I've done. The itinerary was the perfect mix of activities and down time & I felt, hit the key places I'd travel to if doing it fully solo. Whilst the tour itself and the people I met on it were a big part of me having the best time, it wouldn't have been the same without our tour leader Andri. He helped join the group together before we even started and made everyone feel included once we got there. He was the best mix of chilled and reliable, super knowledgeable and put the needs of the group first like the wonderfully caring human he is. We always knew what we were doing and when and it felt like he made the trip run so smoothly - I only had to worry about turning up and having a good time. If you're thinking about booking this DO IT (and pray you'll have Andri has your leader)
