The Road of Heritage Phong Nha – Hue – Da Nang

Begin to explore the road of World Heritage sites from Da Nang, the gateway to central Vietnam. The route encompasses no less than four UNESCO-designated World Heritage Sites: the ancient imperial city of Hue; the impressive Thien Duong cave and Phong Nha cave in Phong Nha Ke Bang, a matrix of 65km of caves and underground rivers; the sixteenth century silk path trading port of Hoi An and My Son Valley, the sacred remains of the ancient Cham civilization.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1. da nang – hue (d).

Upon arrival, welcomed by our tour guide and transfer to Hue (2.5 hours land transfer), on the way to stop for sightseeing the high mountain pass of Hai Van ; Lang Co beach and the lagoon far below with Da Nang spread out.

Check in your hotel in Hue and have dinner at restaurant. After dinner you might opt for joining a Royal traditional music performance on Dragon boat sailing along the Perfume River (Hue royal music also recognized as Cultural World Heritage). Overnight in Hue.

Day 2. Hue – Thien Duong cave – Dong Hoi (B, L, D)

7.00AM depart from your hotel in Hue for Phong Nha National Park (Quang Binh). On the way, stop for sightseeing the Basilica of Our Lady of La Vang – a catholic church formerly built in the forest near Quang Tri up from the old DMZ, later, several buildings of La Vang were rebuilt and destroyed during the war. Have lunch in Dong Hoi city, and check in your hotel in Dong Hoi.

Continue to Paradise Cave (Thien Duong Cave) and begin to explore the glamour of Asia’s longest and largest dry cave. You travel on a buggy pass through dense forest for about 2km, then climb about 500 rocky steps, and you’re in.. Paradise. Begin your journey to explore the magical Heaven – the Eden on earth with special stalagmites, stalactites system with sparkling, mysterious beauty, out of human beings imagination.

Return to your hotel in Dong Hoi. Dinner and overnight in Dong Hoi city.

Day 3. Dong Hoi – Phong Nha Cave – Hue (B, L, D)

7.00AM Breakfast and check out your hotel. Depart to Phong Nha cave , take a boat trip along Son River to explore the Phong Nha Cave system. Among 300 caves and grotto in Phong Nha Ke Bang national park, only 20 have been surveyed. Notably, Phong Nha, is the most beautiful cave which holds several records for the highest and longest cave, the longest underground river, finest beaches inside and the most splendid stalagmites and stalactites. These amazing natural art works have been given beautiful names such as the “Lion”, the “Fairy Caves”, the “Royal Court”, and the “Buddha”.

Return to Hue, on the way stop to visit Hien Luong Bridge and Ben Hai River which became an important landmark in the partition of the country into a northern and a southern zone along the 17th parallel. Dinner and overnight in Hue.

Day 4. Hue – Da Nang (B, L, D)

Morning go on to visit the Imperial Citadel with the Flag Tower, Ngo Mon Gate, Nine Dynastic Urns, Nine Holy Cannons, Thai Hoa Palace, Forbidden Purple City (Tu Cam Thanh).. and drive to visit the tomb of Nguyen Emperors – Minh Mang tomb , in a tranquil setting of gardens and lakes. Have lunch at a typical Garden House restaurant.

Afternoon, visit Tomb of Emperor Tu Duc , the final resting place of Vietnam longest reigning emperor, set among forested hills and lakes and Thien Mu pagoda . Then, get on a dragon boat to cruise the beautiful Perfume River back to the Hue town. On the way we can discover lovely views and splendid sunsets on the Perfume River . The boat will arrive at Toa Kham boat wharf around 4:30 PM, then, get on car to go to Da Nang.

Check in your hotel in Da Nang, dinner and overnight in Da Nang.

Day 5. Da Nang – My Son – Hoi An (B, L, D)

Depart from your hotel to My Son sanctuary which was once an imperial city during the Champa dynasty, between the 4th and the 12th centuries. It comprises many Champa temples, in a valley roughly two kilometers wide, surrounded by two mountain ranges. It was the site of religious ceremony of kings of the Champa dynasty, and was also a burial place of Champa royals and national heroes. Spend about 1.5 hour to see a large complex of religious relics that comprises more than 65 architectural works. In 1999, UNESCO labeled the Cham architecture in My Son as a World Cultural Heritage Site. You will also have chance to enjoy the traditional Apsara dancing of Cham girls .

Drive back to Hoi An town to have lunch at restaurant and take a walking tour around visiting to the former merchants’ homes – Hoi An old town , Phuc Kien Communal House, Tan Ky ancient commercial house, Japanese covered Bridge, and Phung Hung Ancient Trading House. Visit one of the lantern making workshops and the colourful riverside market. You also see a numerous art galleries and tailor shops, get some made-to-order clothes if you like.

Day 6. Cham Island snorkeling (B, L)

Today is a relaxing day, you will join with a group for Cham Island . Pick up at your hotel and transfer to the pier in Cua Dai beach. Get on speed boat and depart to Cham Island (30 minutes).

Arrive at Lang Village of Cham Island and discover more about Cham island with its history. Visit to the Marine Protected Area, the boat shelter, Hai Tang pagoda, traditional fishing village and the local market.

Then get back on board and go swimming and snorkeling (or scuba diving available upon request) to see the coral reef and biology system of Cham islands. Then transfer to Bai Ong beach and have lunch at local restaurant. Afternoon you are free relaxing on the beach or go swimming. You can join basket boat or trek along the coast as well as discover the fishing villages nearby.

14.30 back to the pier and get on board to return the mainland. The driver awaits and transfers you back your hotel. Free at your own leisure.

Day 7. Departure (B)

Check out your hotel and car pick up to transfer to the airport for your flight home.

Day 1 Arrival in Da Nang - Hoi An (D)

Upon arrival at Da Nang airport, meet our guide and transfer to hotel in Da Nang, check in and rest.

Afternoon, depart for Hoi An , stop for a visit at the Marble Mountain (Ngu Hanh Son), discover the stunning natural caves of the mountain and enjoy the beautiful view from the top of the Marble Mountain. You also visit the stone sculpturing village.

Visit Hoi An old town – an exceptionally well-preserved example of a South-East Asian trading port dating from the 15th to the 19th century, its buildings and its street plan reflect the influences, both indigenous and foreign, that have combined to produce this unique heritage site, we start our walking tour to explore the ancient city of Hoi An highlights with Phuc Kien Communal House, Tan Ky ancient commercial house, Japanese covered Bridge, and Phung Hung Ancient Trading House…

Overnight in Da Nang.

Day 2 Da Nang - Ba Na hills - Hue (B, L)

Morning, check out the hotel and depart for Ba Na hills and take Cable Car which gains 5 world scores to Ba Na hills station. Stop at By Night station to visit Vong Nguyet hills, Linh Ung pagoda, The Old Villas of French. Continue moving up by cable car to the Nui Chua Mountain – the top of Ba Na range, visiting Nginh Phong top, Le Nim Villas, Orchid Garden… Experience hill climbing train (first and unique funicular in Vietnam) and visit an old French cellar (Debay Ancient Wine Cellar), flower garden Le Jardin D’amour and Linh Ung Pagoda.

You should not miss walking on the Golden Bridge amid the foggy hills of the mountain , enjoy the gorgeous view of Da Nang City.

Have lunch at restaurant.

Day 3 Hue - Thien Duong Cave in Phong Nha Ke Bang (B, L)

Morning activities:

Our drive and guide will pick up you at your hotel in Hue city and start to transfer to Phong Nha cave. On the way, we will visit La Vang Holy Land. Christians believe that Mary showed flexibility in this area in 1798 and a church was erected. It is an important place of pilgrimage for Catholics of Vietnam and La Vang Holy was recognized by the Vatican.

Our guide will introduce DMZ of Quang Tri when the car passes by the 17th parallel line (a demilitarized zone established as a dividing line between North and South Vietnam during the Vietnam War)

Visit Vinh Moc Tunnel for more experience of Vietnam War in fighting against enemy with a network underground tunnel where is the home, kitchen, hospital and school for children, etc. And then travel ahead to Dong Hoi city. Savour lunch en route

Afternoon & evening activities:

Cruising on Son River to Phong Nha Cave (wet cave) and start exploring Phong Nha cave. An immortal place with some shape of the beautiful stalagmites and listed in UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites in 2003. (Fairy cave & Palace cave). Afterwards, get back to the pier. Check-in hotel in Dong Hoi City. It’s time to relax.

Day 2: Discover Paradise Cave - Hue (B/L)

Our guide and driver will pick up you at hotel. And then start to visit Paradise cave. It’s about 31Km long and longer than Phong Nha Cave, which had been considered as the longest cave in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park. It was discovered by scientists of the British Caving Research Association in 2005. They were impressed by the beautiful and spectacular stalactites and stalagmites inside this cave and they named it Thien Duong Cave (Paradise Cave).

You will be transferred by golf car through diversified. But value plants of the old forest to admire the beautiful cave.

Day 1: Hue airport/ train station pick up

On the first day of the Hue – Phong Nha – Danang – Hoi An 6 days 5 nights   we pick you up at Hue airport/ train station to the hotel. You are free to explore Hue and enjoy your meal.

Day 2: Hue city tour (B/L/D)

After having breakfast at the hotel, begin the Hue city tour.

08:00 – 08:30 AM: Get  Dragon boat to cruise on the Perfume river  to visit Thien Mu pagoda – The oldest pagoda in Hue city .

Travel Visa:

Most countries in South East Asia require you to obtain a visa. Please check carefully with your travel specialist regarding specific visa requirements for each country you plan to visit as the legislation does change frequently. Thailand offers a free visa on arrival to most nationalities. Other countries including Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar offer a “visa-on-arrival” service which requires you to pay a fee at the airport, or you may prefer to obtain this in advance through the relevant embassy or a visa agent. For visa-on-arrival in Vietnam, you must submit some paperwork before you arrive.

If you need our assistance with visa procedures for an option to get your visa for Vietnam instead of getting visa at the Vietnam consulate in your country. Please refer to the following steps:

Step 2: Process your visa information into a visa application

We will contact you for reviewing your visa information and then submit your application on your behalf to Vietnam Immigration department and follow other procedures pursuant to the regulations of Immigration department to get Visa approval letter granted by Immigration department.

We will send the visa approval letter via email to you after 07 working days.

After we obtain the visa approval letter from the Immigration department for you, we will forward you a scanned copy of it by email (Your visa information then has been recorded to the Visa system of the Vietnam Immigration department).

Step 3: Get your visa stamp on your arrival

Just print the approval letter out, prepare 2 passport sized photos and an amount of USD for stamping fee ($25 for single entry visa; $50 for 1 month multiple entry visa). Put all above mentioned things along with your passport in a package, and then show them to Immigration officer at Vietnam arrival airports.

Upon arrival at Vietnam’s airport, expect a simple form to fill in (or you can download form to fill beforehand), present the visa approval letter, passport, photos to the Immigration officer inside the counter and look for a place to hear your name be called to get the passport back and pay for the stamping fee.

Make a visit to Non Nuoc Stone Carving Village, where numerous exquisite and unique works are made by skillful hands of local craftsmen. Situated to the south of Da Nang City and right at the foot of the Marble Mountains, the village bears a traditional craft of stone-carving, lasting for more than 200 years. The founder of this craft village is Huynh Ba Quat – an artisan originally from Thanh Hoa Province. He and many others moved to and settled down in the village in the late 18th century. Since then, they have worked as professional craftsmen, and their products have been exported to other countries in the world.

Non Nuoc Stone Carving Village makes up your good beginning of the tour in Central Vietnam, yet the destinations and activities afterwards will definitely please you so much. Just enjoy a delicious lunch before keeping the journey.

In the afternoon, the place to experience the longest telpher in the world (600 meters) is Ba Na Hills, referred as another version of Da Lat and Sapa in Central Vietnam. Ba Na Hills is a hill station and resort perching on Truong Son Mountains to the west of Da Nang City. This structure was built in 1919 by the French, and the resort, depicted as a leisure destination was initially for the purpose of serving French tourists. Witnessing a spectacle of mountains below from the cable car pleases the eye and clearly deserves your experience.

Afterward, travel to the ancient town of Hoian, where you will have a sightseeing tour around old corners and structures, which are influenced by Chinese, Japan, and European architecture styles and cultures. A free activity is that you can explore a peaceful and subtle Hoi An Ancient Town at night on your own. Have a warm dinner at a local restaurant before coming back to Da Nang and spending overnight there.

DA NANG-HUE (B/L/D)

Wake up in Da Nang. You will have breakfast before check-out of your hotel. Then, depart for the old capital of Hue from Da Nang. On the way, go through Hai Van Tunnel, supposed to be the longest tunnel (6.28 kilometers) of Southeast Asia, located on Highway 1 between Hue and Da Nang. Upon arrival in Hue, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. It is followed by the afternoon trip to the Imperial Citadel, labeled as a grand palace dating back to the last dynasty of Nguyen.

The imperial Citadel lies on the banks of the Huong River, which is also called Perfume River; you can take about three hours to get to this site from Da Nang. There are plenty of stunning monuments in the imperial capital, yet what is supposed to be the most eye-catching feature is the Ngo Mon Gate, once utilized by the royal family and their eunuch servants. Additionally, visitors also obtain something special and valuable knowledge at the tomb of Emperor Minh Mang and the tomb of Emperor Tu Duc.

It is easy to realize that monuments around the royal buildings in the imperial citadel, erected in the early 19th century look like another version of Beijing’s Forbidden City. The rampart around the citadel is six meters high and two and a haft kilometers long. It is part of the historical complex of Hue monuments emerging among the Central Vietnam not only for its phenomenal architecture, but also for charming natural landscapes. That is allegedly the reason why the complex is recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

After leaving the Imperial Citadel, you will continue the afternoon trip by a visit to the pagoda of Heavenly Lady – Thien Mu Pagoda, which is also called Linh Mu Pagoda. Constructed in 1601 by the order of the first Nguyen Lord – the governor of Thuan Hoa, aka Hue nowadays, Thien Mu may be taken into account as the oldest pagoda in the region. Many years later when Cochinchinese Buddhism was in the heyday, the pagoda was rebuilt a couple of times under reigns of Nguyen Emperors whereby today you can see impressive architectural works inside it.

Wake up in Hue and have breakfast before departing for Quang Binh. Make a stop en route at La Vang Church, located in Quang Tri Province. This site is referred to as the Minor Basilica of Our Lady of La Vang (Đức Mẹ La Vang) and a Roman Catholic sanctuary as well. Here is allegedly the place to commemorate the Blessed Virgin Mar. It is also a significant spot of pilgrimage for Catholics in particular, and for the Catholic Overseas Vietnamese community in general.

Eat lunch at a local restaurant before starting the exploration of Thien Duong Cave – Paradise Cave, initially found by scientists of the British Caving Research Association. You will go past Mooc Water Spring to Thien Duong. The cave is supposed to be a pristine charm or a unspoiled natural marvel, possessing enough magnetic power to keep feet of any visitor. The tomb was built because of the order of Emperor Khai Dinh, based on both traditional Asian elements and European architecture, and took about 11 years to complete. This expensive project drove his unpopularity with his people to a peak. The mausoleum was completed in 1931 after Emperor Khai Dinh had died. The materials for this building are wrought iron and concrete, influenced by the west, so it is grey and quite stunning. Additionally, in terms of concept, it reflects the Asian philosophy that consists of five elements to create a certain balance.

Tu Hieu Pagoda, nestled in a pine forest is regarded as the “root pagoda” of Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh. Today, up to 70 monks reside at Tu Hieu, but it is not all about this pagoda. While the monks stay in the scared place to lead an awakening life, anyone who desires to have a serene haven comes here to escape from the busy life and learn meditation.

Eat lunch at local restaurant. Spend your leisure time until you are transferred to Hue Airport at 13:00 or Da Nang Airport at 17:00 – 24:00 for departure. End the package tour.

• 07h00: Khởi hành đi Quảng Bình. Đoàn được viếng thăm Thánh địa La Vang – Thánh địa linh thiêng nổi tiếng ở khu vực miền Trung. Đoàn được ngắm nhìn dòng sông Bến Hải lịch sử với cầu Hiền Lương bắt ngang. 
• 12h00: Hướng dẫn viên sẽ dẫn đoàn bước vào một xứ sở huyền ảo với những khối thạch nhũ màu sắc sống động bên trong Động Thiên Đường để cảm nhận sự kỳ vĩ mà tạo hóa ban tặng cho vùng đất này. 
• Đoàn sẽ di chuyển bằng xe điện đến chân núi và bắt đầu hành trình chinh phục 530 bậc cấp để lên Thiên Đường . Trên đoạn đường đi sẽ có ghế để nghỉ ngơi và các bậc cũng rất dễ đi.

Day 1: da nang – linh ung pagoda in son tra – my khe beach (lunch, dinner).

Morning : The representative of Vietnamdrive will pick you up at the Danang International Airport to transfer to a coffee shop to take a cup of coffee to relax. Please note that the time will be flexible depending on your flight time!

Then, we will visit the Cham Museum – where there are hundreds of ancient artifacts of Cham sculpture from the 10th to 13th century. You will learn more about the culture and art of Cham people – a talented ethnic group in Vietnam.

Noon : Take the group to have lunch at the restaurant. After that, we will check in the hotel to rest.

Afternoon : We will drive to Son Tra Peninsula (Monkey Moutain). You visit Linh Ung Pagoda and the 67m-tall statue of Quan The Am.

Enjoy the beauty and swim at My Khe beach (optional), which used to be voted by Forbes magazine as one of the 6 most attractive beaches on the planet.

Evening : Have dinner at the fine restaurant. After finishing dinner, the car takes you back to the hotel.

You are free to explore Da Nang Beach City at night. You may like to do other activities, such as enjoying the beauty of the Han River, visiting Asian Park, or shopping at trading centers.

Day 2: Ba Na Hills – Golden Bridge – Hoi An Ancient Town (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Morning: We depart to Ba Na Hills, where you will discover the unexpected moments of Spring – Summer – Fall – Winter in one day.

We will do exciting activities, including sitting on the long cable car (nearly 6,000m) to the top of Ba Na, taking pictures at Golden Bridge, and visiting Vong Nguyet Hill, Linh Ung Pagoda, the Big Statue of Buddha, the old wine tunnel, and the garden Tinh Tam.

Then, come to the large indoor amusement park called FANTASY PARK. Many games include Love Wheel, windmill, spiderman, freely rotating tower, Dinosaur Park, and Wax Museum. A few games need extra charges, so they are options at your own expense.

Then, take the cable car to drive back to Da Nang city center to have a late lunch at a beautiful restaurant.

Afternoon : You come to Hoi An Ancient Town, recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage.

We will take a walk to visit the old town, including the Japanese Covered Bridge, Ancient House Tan Ky, Phuoc Kien Assembly Hall, and a Handicraft Workshop.

Evening : Taste the local food for dinner at a nice restaurant.

Overnight in Da Nang.

Day 3: Da Nang – Lang Co – Hue Old Citadel (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Morning : Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before departing to Hue Old Citadel, also the World Cultural Heritage.

We travel over Hai Van Pass if it is on a clear day to admire the beautiful settings of the sea and mountains.

Stop to visit Lang Co fishing village and learn about pearl products on display here. Do not forget to take pictures of the beautiful at Lap An Lagoon.

Noon : Arrive in Hue and check into the hotel to rest. A lovely lunch can be served for your first meal in Hue City.

Afternoon : We have chances to visit:

Ancient Thien Mu Pagoda, built in the early years of the seventeenth century, is located at a beautiful location on the bank of the Perfume River. The pagoda is a spiritual symbol of the ancient capital land. You can find one of the oldest and most beautiful religious architecture in Hue city.

The Imperial Citadel covers the outer wall and Royal palaces of 13 Kings of the Nguyen Dynasty (1802 – 1945).

Evening : Have dinner at a beautiful restaurant with Hue food.

You are free to explore Hue at night or enjoy Hue songs performed by Hue artists on the Dragon Boat on the Perfume River.

Overnight in Hue.

Day 4: Hue – Thien Duong Cave or Phong Nha Cave – Hue (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Morning : We will explore the incredible caves in Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park in Quang Binh province, Vietnam.

Via, stopping to visit La Vang Holy Land, which used to be awarded as the Queen of the Basilica.

When passing DMZ Vietnam – the 17th parallel at the Hien Luong Bridge and Ben Hai River, you will listen to the tour guide explain the demarcation line temporarily dividing the South and North for 20 years from 1954 to 1972.

Noon : Have lunch at the restaurant in Phong Nha.

Then, we have two options to choose to explore the cave in Phong Nha-Ke Bang:

Option 1 : Visit PHONG NHA Caves and Tien Son Cave (Wet and Dry Cave):

You get on a boat on the beautiful Son River to conquer Phong Nha Cave, where you can admire the beautiful stalactites in various shapes constructed by nature over thousands of years.

After boating out of the wet cave, you can go up many steps to visit Tien Son Cave (Fairy Cave), which has stunning stalactites and stalagmites.

Opition 2 : Thien Duong Cave (Paradise Cave):

Sit on a golf cart from the entrance fee to the area of Paradise Cave. You have to climb up 524 steps or a longer zig-zac road to get to the cave.

When entering the cave, you discover the mysterious beauty of Asia’s longest dry cave, the natural wonder of the world with the incredible beauty of nature. You will have the opportunity to experience different levels of heaven on the earth.

After exploring the magnificent stalactites and stalagmites in the cave, you will come back to the parking to get on the bus to depart for Hue along the Truong Son mountain range, which used to be one part of the historical Ho Chi Minh trails.

Evening : Dinner at the restaurant. You stay overnight at the hotel in Hue City.

Day 5: Hue City – Da Nang (Breakfast, Lunch)

Morning : You will visit two royal tombs: Khai Dinh Mausoleum – many different architectural styles combining unique East-West (Europe-Asia), and Minh Mang Romb – a beautiful garden and romantic combination of nature, water, and ancient architectural buildings.

Spend time to see the busy daily trading activities of the local people in Dong Ba Market. You will get a good chance to take pictures of the colorful life.

Noon : Check out your hotel and have lunch at the restaurant.

Afternoon : We drive to Hue Airport or Hue Railway Station for your next journey to other parts of Vietnam.

Can i do the opposite way by starting in hue city and finishing at danang airport.

Yes, of course. Although the suggested tour starts from Da Nang airport and finishes in Hue, Vietnamdrive is happy to run it in an opposite way, but at the same destinations. Even, you can start your journey from Quang Binh by visiting the caves in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park first.

Can I start and finish my tour at Danang International Airport?

Yes, you can. We plan the trip to finish at Hue train station or Phu Bai Airport which is close to Hue City for your convenient transfer and to save time. But, if you want to finish the tour at Danang International Airport, we are happy to serve you with a small extra charge.
