What are Broadway Tours?

Broadway Tours refer to traveling productions of popular Broadway shows that bring the magic of Broadway to cities and theaters across the country or even internationally. These tours allow audiences outside of New York City to experience the thrill and excitement of acclaimed Broadway productions in their own hometowns.

What is the difference between subscription tickets and regular tickets for Broadway Tours?

Subscription tickets for Broadway Tours are usually sold as part of a subscription package, offering patrons the opportunity to secure tickets for a series of shows within a season. Subscribers often enjoy benefits such as priority seating, discounted prices, and exclusive offers. Regular tickets, on the other hand, are individual tickets that can be purchased for specific performances of a Broadway Tour. These tickets are available to the general public and can be bought separately for each desired show.

Are there age restrictions for Touring shows?

Yes, age restrictions for touring shows can vary depending on the content and themes of the production. While some shows are suitable for audiences of all ages, others may have age recommendations or restrictions due to mature content, language, or intense scenes. The specific age restrictions or recommendations for each show can be found on the official websites of the respective theaters or ticketing platforms. It's important to review these guidelines or consult with the theater directly to ensure the appropriateness of the content for yourself or your group, especially when considering attendance with children or younger individuals.

Can I get refunds or exchange tickets if I can't attend a show?

Ticket exchange or refund policies for Broadway Tours are determined by the specific theater or ticket vendor from which you purchased your tickets. It's advisable to review the terms and conditions of your ticket purchase or contact the theater's box office or the authorized ticket vendor directly for information regarding ticket exchanges, refunds, or any applicable policies. Policies may vary, so it's important to clarify these details in advance. Please note that specific details and policies for Broadway Tours may vary depending on the production, theater, or ticket vendor. It's always recommended to consult the official websites, authorized ticket vendors, or contact the respective theaters directly for the most accurate and up-to-date information.

Can I find information about accessibility for individuals with disabilities?

Accessibility information may vary for each theater and production. It's best to reach out to the individual theater or show's official website. They can provide you with comprehensive information regarding wheelchair accessibility, hearing devices, captioning services, and other accommodations.

HEAR THE EVOLUTION OF AN ICON

Starting out with sonny.

Everything changed when young Cherilyn Sarkisian met Salvatore Bono at a small coffee shop in L.A. in 1962. Hear the songs that started it all, and made Sonny and Cher a household name.

DOMINATING THE DANCE SCENE

Following the hit debut of “The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour” in 1971, Cher broke out on her own and became a worldwide solo sensation. Listen to her evolution from pop to disco and everything in between.

THE LEGENDARY COMEBACK

After a break from music to take Hollywood by storm, Cher returned to the airwaves with a string of comeback hits that cemented her in history as one of the greatest entertainers of all time. Explore the sounds from her most recent era in this playlist.

STYLE LOOKBOOK

Look back on some of Cher's most iconic and thrilling fashion moments.

national tour shows

Bell-bottoms and Counterculture

When Cher first came on the scene as part of a duo with Sonny Bono in the 1960s, their looks were iconic of the free-love, freewheeling era. Her long, straight locks changed the game for those still wearing beehives.

Bell-bottoms and Counterculture

Matching Furs (1968)

Bang, bang! As a duo, Cher and Sonny often matched in unisex takes on hippie fashion. Items like fur vests gave their looks textures and proportions and shapes that were unconventional for the era.

Matching Furs (1968)

Pop Goddess (1972)

It would be the start of a lifelong trend of strategically placed sequins and fabulous headdresses. This Bob Mackie creation lit up The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour .

Pop Goddess (1972)

Belly Barer (1973)

Cher often revealed her belly button on the Sonny and Cher TV show, which got her in trouble with the network but eventually helped change the rules. Red carpet looks like this, once daring, are now the norm.

Belly Barer (1973)

The Naked Dress (1974)

This daring look created for Cher by Bob Mackie was simply groundbreaking, and has since become a rite of passage for female performers. According to Mackie, it was never about being naked; it was about being bold.

The Naked Dress (1974)

Luau at the Oscars (1974)

Ever one to eschew black-tie formality, Cher showed up to the 1974 Academy Awards ® in a gorgeous floral-print two-piece more evocative of a sarong than a dress, but still high fashion with a couture headpiece and choker.

Luau at the Oscars (1974)

Behold the Unitard (1978)

The pop-star wardrobe staple all began with a bold move from a very body-forward disco diva.

Behold the Unitard (1978)

Nearly Naked Butterfly (1979)

For her album “Prisoner,” Cher went nearly naked once again, in a shimmering Mackie headpiece cascading seamlessly into a matching beaded dress.

Nearly Naked Butterfly (1979)

Risky Red Carpet (1986)

Cher challenged the Academy Awards ® dress code as a presenter in this memorable costume — turning heads and daring to be taken seriously as an actress.

Risky Red Carpet (1986)

Moonstruck (1988)

Her provocatively simple shock dress was the perfect look for clinching the Oscar ® . The diva had arrived.

Moonstruck (1988)

Channeling Cleopatra (1988)

At a Halloween party in Century City, Cher channeled Cleopatra with a wig-headpiece hybrid that screamed statuesque.

Channeling Cleopatra (1988)

Haute Headpiece (1998)

Never comfortable with the commonplace, her gorgeous, woven gown got a bold matching topper at the Academy Awards — a nod to her famous headwear of years past.

Haute Headpiece (1998)

Bigger Is Better (2000)

Who can top a Cher headpiece better than Cher, with this mohawk meets Mad Max tribal warrior crown?

Bigger Is Better (2000)

Return to Form (2010)

Cher stole a page out of her own stylebook and subsequently stole the show at the VMAs paying tribute to the big hair, body-baring unisuit, high boots and leather jacket immortalized in her 1988 “If I Could Turn Back Time” music video.

Return to Form (2010)

Tribal Vibes (2014)

Cher channeled her tribal heritage and diva status in her “Dressed to Kill Tour.”

The National are probably the biggest band to come out of Cincinnati, Ohio. The indie-rock group is made up of 5 band members, including two sets of brothers, who play alongside lead singer Matt Beringer.

The band were formed in 1999, and they’ve been touring pretty much ever since. Most of their time as a group has been spent in Brooklyn, New York, where they’ve had a slow burning career that’s seen them grow from being a hardworking but relatively unknown band, to a group who headline festivals around the world and sell out 20,000 capacity arenas.

The full line up consists of lead vocalist Matt Beringer, twin brothers Aaron (guitar, bass, keys) and Bryce Dessner (guitar), and another set of brothers Scott (bass, guitar) and Bryan Devendorf (drums).

Matt Beringer’s distinctive baritone voice, alongside his self-penned discerning lyrics gives the band a unique sound, often described as erring on the sombre-side. They are said to have taken influence from the likes of Tom Waits and Nick Cave, but believe strongly in being innovative and continuing to grow independently as an act.

Interesting fact: one of their biggest breakthrough moments came from their track "Fake Empire" featuring on the 2008 Obama campaign. This, alongside successful support tours with artists like R.E.M., set them on the path to their current popularity. The release of "High Violet" in 2010 saw them reach the biggest achievements of their career - hitting the top 5 across the UK, US and Canada.

Their most recent album "Trouble Will Find Me", was the record that really cemented them into the mainstream. Just before the release of this sixth EP, they premiered a documentary called "Mistaken For Strangers" which followed the band on their "High Violet" tour, focusing mainly on the relationship between singer Matt Beringer and his brother, who took on the role of assistant tour manager.

The National are true strivers, they’ve gradually warmed their way into many a record collection, and with each release prove themselves to be more accomplished than before. Despite their more recent successes, they are not to be considered as having reached a peak: it’s in their nature to continue to improve on themselves.

Live reviews

I suppose any music lover feels a personal connection with what they are listening too, no matter how trite. For fans of The National, the deeply personal, cathartic nature of their songs always seem to express a deep sense of longing. It’s become emblematic of their songs: that somewhat mournful tone in the Dessner production, the halted and deep baritone of Berninger voice, the stark delivery of the rhythm by the Devendorfs.

Few bands know how to manage the mediums which they use as effectively as The National. Their studio sound is immaculate but their live shows are just as perfectly constructed to give the sense of a magical connection between band and crowd night after night. To these talents we can now add short film with Mike Mills’ oeuvre.

Although I personally felt that they had relied too much on their emblematic character over content on their previous album: Sleep Well Beast and I was relieved and delighted by the novelty of an overtly feminin nature on I am Easy to Find. It is a truly excellent LP to add to their already impressive catalogue of outstanding albums but it is easier to achieve intimacy in a studio. The Dessners are expert producers, lending their latents to many other musicians in the Indie world. Harnessing The National’s inimitable vibe in the controlled environment of a studio is easier than expressing deep and personal feeling during a rock concert.

This is where Matt Berninger shines. While the other members of the band play fantastically and even with some theatricality; occasionally trading places and instruments throughout. Berninger’s stage presence is what truly makes a The National concert an experience.

He doesn’t have a good singing voice and he doesn’t have expressive of diverting stage banter (On this occasion he shared the fact that their tour bus has truck a moose on route to Montreal) but what he does have is the ability to give the impression he is reaching out to us, the audience members.

Unlike most musicians who regularly appear in the news for kicking cameras or knocking peoples’ phones out of their hands, Berninger encourages cell phone filming in his shows through his antics. Granted, there is pro forma pre-recorded warning prior to the show that all venues play which warns that filming the show is forbidden, but when the modern audience inevitably pull out their devices to “capture the moment”, the National frontman gives them something to remember. During one song he took a phone out of a front row audience member’s hand and carried it on-stage alternating between filming himself in extreme confessional close-up or capturing guitar work by one Dessner or another.

In another case, he took the phone on a wild ride during one of his legendary walkabouts through the audience. If you’ve been to a The National show, you will recognize this characteristic move by Berninger. He will suddenly become compelled to leave the stage and plow into the crowd. He enters into what appears to be some kind of fugue state, moving back and forth, carving a path through the throngs of the audience members who reach out to touch him, hug him or, more often than not, film him. His interactions are impetuous, short and frenetic, almost brusque as though he is desperate to find what he is looking for and that search is always a physical manifestation of intimacy.

Even when he is on stage, this personae of the desperation and frustration as he strives to connect with us on a personal level is made manifest by the way he wrestled his mike from its stand, flinging the inanimate object violently when it refuses to cooperate. He climbs onto lights and monitors or paces back and forth with nervous hands as though he is trapped and desperate to get out, to connect, with us. Sometimes he seems to almost manage a personal moment, a passing high five or sharing the rest of his bottle of cold red wine with the front row.

It’s an act. The moves are just as rehearsed as a pop diva’s choreographed dance sequence, if less overt. The roadies are always at hand to pick up that recalcitrant mic stand and somehow, empathically, know when Berninger will suddenly be compelled to plunge into the crowd and have an improbable 200 feet of mic cord at the ready. We know the moves, we wait for the sudden yet inevitable breakdown of Mr. November, we sing along with Vanderlyle, yet they still affect us.

I know it’s a conceit, but it’s great showmanship which make us believe we have shared something special and it’s what keeps me coming back show after show.

I have been introduced to The National by my husband in 2002 when we moved to Vancouver. I was automatically drawn to their music. Being in a new city, and without knowing anyone, I often spend my free time going for long walks and exploring. Their music provided me with a lot of comfort as I strolled through streets full of people, yet feeling alone. Their dark, full of melancholy music fills me up with longing for more. In times where I need a good cry, when I do chores around the house, when I sit down with a glass of wine, it is my go to music. I love all their albums, but High Violet, Trouble will find me, and Boxer are definitely albums that are on the constant repeat. My husband, a music fanatic, is always on the lookout for the new and greatest bands. He keeps introducing me to new artists, yet after listening to one or two songs from their album, I switch the ITunes to play The National. If someone asked me what my favourite song is it would go like this: "I should live in salt" , "Fireproof", "Graceless", "I need my girl", "This is the last time", "Terrible love", "Sorrow", "Lemonworld" "Mistaken for Strangers", "Fake Empire" "Abel" "Trouble will find me"... the list can go on and on.. I don't think they have ever written a bad song. What I love about their songs is not only the melodies are superbly written but the lyrics are full of meaning (and that is hard to find in music today). The National are bringing back music that matters, music that fills your heart and soul. I had a pleasure of attending one of their concerts here in Vancouver in 2013 at the PNE. It was the most amazing show ever. I am about to turn 40, yet I was screaming like a teenager! Did I mention, I love Matt! I recently watched the documentary "Mistaken for Strangers" and loved this new expose of the band... The National, unique sound, amazing vocals, beautiful melodies, dark lyrics, talented musicians and song writers... I would do anything to see them in concert again!

I had such a great evening seeing The National! Matt's interaction with the crowd was second to none. On multiple occasions throughout the evening he descended into the standing area, and sometimes the audience lost sight of him for what felt like minutes (but probably was seconds, thanks to security).

Irish singer Lisa Hannigan, who provided backing vocals on Sleep Well Beast, joined the National at multiple points during the night. Her enchanting vocals were sadly lost at first, but after a few adjustments she provided a haunting accompaniment to Matt's iconic baritone voice.

Matt's voice often reached new levels of emotion when it transcended into a guttural scream on certain songs.

As the night drew to a close, Matt announced that they were to sing 'the most depressing song we've ever written' - About Today. Hailing from their 2004 EP Cherry Tree, this was a particularly special moment. The crowd fell silent and eyes were drawn once again to the incredible light show behind the musicians.

Having performed a cover of Talking Heads' Heaven, support act This Is the Kit and Lisa Hannigan joined the stage for a beautiful, bittersweet rendition of Born to Beg.

The icing on the cake of a beautiful two hour concert was the final song - Terrible Love. Matt walked through the crowd as we all sang in unison 'it takes an ocean not to break'.

My only regret is that we didn't get to hear Mr November, my favourite song.

The National can be depressing, and there's no denying I felt slightly melancholy this morning, but in today's world it's impossible - at least for me at least - to pretend that everything is going swimmingly.

We need music that examines our deepest emotions to prevent us burying our heads in the sand. And with that, we need the National.

Morrissey’s voice made introductions by way of lyric as The Smiths’ “Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I What” was piped over the PA while the band took their position on stage. Berninger and the brothers were joined by a pair of multi-instrumentalists who dabbled in various sounds throughout the night, but whose main contribution came in the form of horns. As Morrissey’s pleas faded behind the three split-screens that acted as backdrops, Berninger was pacing like a caged beast; his neck bent, his head facing the ground, and his long blonde hair obscuring not only his glasses, but most of his facial features as well. “Thank you,” he said curtly, before following the brothers into “Don’t Swallow the Cap”. Everyone was on their feet, with their arms overhead, when the LSD-inspired rainbow light-show was washed out in bubbling crimson waves as the night transitioned into “Bloodbuzz Ohio”. Then we were treated to the first preview of the evening…

“Checking Out” started out with simple synth, then Berninger came in with his deep, introspective, stream-of-consciousness vocals about fucking things up, before a light backbeat and simple chord progression met him somewhere in the middle. The song continued to be very synth and vocal driven from beginning to end. Multiple members of the band have spoken about a new direction forward, and if “Checking Out” is any indication of where the new road leads, I’m certainly along for the ride.

This show was labeled "A Special Night with The National" and was a limited 6 city engagement that included a viewing of a short film directed by Mike Mills (not THAT one) and scored by special arrangements of tracks from IAETF and Q&A with Mike and one of the Dessner's and Matt.

The short film was good, very moving about a woman's (Alicia Vikander) journey from childhood through life and including all the experiences one would imagine a woman has/goes through. To this end the female collaboration on the new album lends itself very well.

The main set was comprised of the new tracks from IAETF and featured appearances by Julien Baker for a couple of songs, as well as the Brooklyn something Chorus/Choir. The live arrangements were complete with string trio and brass duo. The songs were good but most (all but 2 or 3) lacked the energy that one is accustomed to seeing from The National (this is neither a good thing nor a bad thing, I get it, this was a toned down show, to be seen more like an art show). The encore consisted of 3 or 4 songs from the back catalog and Not in Kansas, which packed so many political and societal issues into one song it will make your head spin. They played Fake Empire, Bloodbuzz and The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness which demonstrated the regular energy of a 'The National' show.

Overall a good show, definitely different from the 8 or 9 times I've seen them previously.

I saw The National at the Shaky Knees Festival in Atlanta this May. I have always liked their music but did not have a strong desire to see them live because their music is so mellow. However, they were awesome! I was pretty close to the stage in a general admission area. The sound was great and their energy was great too. I was shocked at how bad ass the lead singer is. He was smashing things on stage and even came out into the audience and crowd "walked" around. I was so close I could almost touch his hand. At the end of the show, they were so thankful of the audience, and it seems like they genuinely care about their fans and want to make sure that they give the best performance possible. I really enjoy their current album, Trouble Will Find Me. "Graceless" and "I Need my Girl" are my favorite songs. They have been around for awhile (I think about 10 years), and their music just keeps getting better, and they stay current. Seeing them live made me more interested in them as a band. I would definitely see them again if they came back into town.

Some people of my age (82) want to try Parachuting, Bungee Jumping or some other daring pursuit while still on this planet but my greatest wish was to go to a live concert of that amazing band, The National!

I was so lucky to be in Brighton last Saturday (7th Dec) to have my wish granted and the whole experience was fantastic - they even played my very favourite song, ‘Light Years’. The song list was well chosen, full of contrast in mood and tempo and the audience responded happily to singing Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks!

Our group included three generations, myself, two daughters and a granddaughter, all National fans.

The Brighton Centre is an excellent venue and the audience was so receptive and enthusiastic. I think Matt himself must have realised that, considering his many ventures down to the front row. At one point, he stumbled and my younger daughter held out her hands to steady him - unfortunately he stood on her toes but all is forgiven, Matt!

I had heard they were a life changing show prior to going, but I was skeptical due to how hyperbolic people tend to be about that kind of thing, but HOLY SHIT.

They had a bit of a rocky start, but once they got their groove on (and Beringer got sufficiently drunk) 2-3 songs in, it was one of the most surreal shows I've ever had the pleasure of attending.

their music is often noted for being a bit mellow, but this show couldn't be less so. when it they weren't reaching swans-level volumes with songs like Mr November, they were delivering some satisfyingly visceral takes on classics like "Don't Swallow the Cap" or "Fake Empire"

seriously, though, this show was insane & I highly recommend seeing them to anyone if they're in your area.

An incredible live performance. Matt and the band bring to life songs from the album with such passion and grit in ways that can't fully be explained. They make you fall in love again with music and songs that you may have listened to hundreds of times and thought you understood. They emotionally charge into anthems and b sides alike and have a great time interacting with the crowd, with Matt often stepping off stage or singing with the crowd around him. The stage presence, comments between songs, goofy dancing by Matt, band mate banter and red solo cups handed out or flung into the crowd all add to the incredible musical performance. I can't recommend seeing them enough. If you're a fan this is a must see show.

scoles01’s profile image

They are absolutely incredible live. Between Matt's shrieking during The Pull of You and the intensity of Bryce and Aaron during rockers like Day I Die (during which Matt waded deep into the crowd) and System, this was certainly not a boring affair! Even the quieter numbers (Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks, Light Years, etc) had a coiled intensity. Matt is super funny on stage, telling clever anecdotes and giving away the mic stand at the end of the concert. The only caveat to the performance was that the whole field reeked of weed, so strong it was making me and my SO sick. Most of the fans just stood there smoking instead of actually having fun and dancing. The band itself was awesome though!

New York Undercover Cast Set to Reunite for National Tour in Honor of Show’s 30th Anniversary (Exclusive)

The beloved police procedural, starring Malik Yoba, Luna Lauren Velez and Michael DeLorenzo, aired on Fox from 1994 to 1999

national tour shows

The cast of New York Undercover is hitting the road!

In PEOPLE's exclusive look at the Monday, April 29 episode of Tamron Hall , Malik Yoba, Luna Lauren Velez and Michael DeLorenzo reveal that the cast of the police drama will be embarking on a tour across the United States in celebration of the show's 30th anniversary.

"We're here not just to talk about the 30-year anniversary, but how we can bring this moment forward," Yoba, 56, explains. "Audiences has never had a chance to have this experience with us so we intend to go on the road as [a] cast."

Jeff Neira/DISNEY

After host Tamron Hall and the audience react with shock, Yoba shares "another iconic" reveal.

"We're going to hit markets across America. We're working with artists that have performed on the show," he continues as the crowd cheers.

New York Undercover aired from Fox from 1994 to 1999. The iconic police procedural followed the story of two undercover detectives, J.C. Williams (Yoba) and Eddie Torres (DeLorenzo). The series included a diverse cast and was one of the first procedurals to cast BIPOC actors in leading roles. It also told realistic storylines that tackles issues from parenting to racism, sexism and drug abuse.

In 2018, Deadline reported that ABC had ordered a pilot for a New York Undercover reboot series.

At the time, the outlet reported that the new series would pick up 20 years after the original show's end. The reboot was to follow detectives Nat Gilmore and Melissa Ortiz and their investigations into the Big Apple's most dangerous criminals from Harlem to Battery Park. Some original cast members were expected to reprise their roles.

The reboot was to be written and executive produced by Dick Wolf, co-creator of the original series, and Ben Watkins.

However, the network scrapped its plans for the revival. Though New York Undercover 's return to television looks unlikely, Deadline reported that the reboot was getting pitched to other networks in 2020.

T he next Broadway season coming to West Palm Beach has been announced and includes some big marquee titles from the Great White Way.

The national tours will also include fan favorites dancing back into the spotlight, including “The Book of Mormon,” “Les Misérables” and “Peter Pan.” Capping off the slate of shows will be the emerging “Mystic Pizza.”

Oct. 29-Nov. 3, 2024 — ‘Mrs.Doubtfire’

The 1993 movie became a Broadway musical in late 2021 (after a pandemic delay) and ran for a little over two months. Like the silver-screen comedy with Robin Williams and Sally Field, this stage version is about a recently divorced actor who dons drag in order to remain close to his family in the guise of a nanny/housekeeper.

Jan. 7-12, 2025 — ‘The Cher Show’

This is truly a Cher and Cher and Cher-alike show. Why? Because it takes three actors to play the star at different stages of her glittery life. Thirty-five tunes from the Oscar-winning actor/pop music goddess’s songbook are in this jukebox musical. “The Cher Show” opened on Broadway in December 2018 and closed in August 2019, the same year the Tonys awarded costumer Bob Mackie and lead Stephanie J. Block.

Jan. 28-Feb. 2, 2025 — ‘Funny Girl’

How this musical shot Barbra Streisand to super-duper-stardom in 1964 (she went on to win an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for the 1968 movie version) is pure showbiz lore. For the national tour, Miami’s Katerina McCrimmon takes on the lead in the show that follows Vaudeville legend Fanny Brice from her humble beginnings on N.Y.C.’s Lower East Side to international fame as a star of stage, screen and radio. Throughout it all, you get the enduring musical score by Jule Styne and Bob Merrill with songs such as “People,” “Don’t Rain on My Parade,” “I’m the Greatest Star” and “Sadie, Sadie.”

Feb. 12-16, 2025 — ‘Peter Pan’

For this staging, American Indian playwright Larissa FastHorse  has sprinkled her own brand of pixie dust on the show about the boy who refuses to grow up, giving a much-needed update on the depiction of indigenous people. But the classic songs remain, with tunes such as “I’m Flying,” “I Won’t Grow Up” and “Never Never Land.”

March 11-16, 2025 — ‘The Book of Mormon’

Trey Parker and Matt Stone, creators of the five-time Emmy Award-winning animated series “South Park,” took on religion and won nine Tony Awards in the process. This profane and satiric musical comedy follows two Mormon missionaries and their misadventures while trying to spread their faith to a village in war-torn and impoverished Uganda. One has a crisis of faith, and the other refashions the liturgy with dashes of pop culture to win over converts.

March 25-30, 2025 — ‘Moulin Rouge! The Musical’

Just like the 2001 movie starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor, this stage version goes all Belle Epoque-y on hits from the recent Top 40 Charts. Well … recent in context of the turn of the 20th century, which is when this story is set. Songs such as “Lady Marmalade,” “Every Breath You Take,” “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It),” “What’s Love Got to Do With It” and “Rolling in the Deep” tell the story of a young poet who falls in love with a cabaret star. The show won 10 Tony Awards in 2020.

April 22-27, 2025 — ‘Les Misérables’

Based on the Victor Hugo novel, the show’s story also focuses on themes of redemption for ex-convict Jean Valjean against the backdrop of the 1832 Paris Uprising. This sung-through musical boasts a score by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg, with anthems and ballads that have gone on to become standards including “I Dreamed A Dream,” “On My Own,” “Master of the House,” “Stars,” “Bring Him Home,” “Do You Hear the People Sing?” and “One Day More.” The musical was originally staged in Paris in 1980 before moving on to London’s West End in 1985. In 1987, “Les Misérables” bowed on Broadway (winning eight Tony Awards). In 2012, the movie version hit screens with Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Russell Crowe, Eddie Redmayne, Sacha Baron Cohen, Helena Bonham Carter and Amanda Seyfried.

May 13-18, 2025 — ‘Mystic Pizza’

Technically this show hasn’t made it to Broadway yet. Julia Roberts fans will remember the 1988 movie that inspired this jukebox musical that uses pop songs from that era to follow the lives of three waitresses living in Mystic, Connecticut. Against the backdrop of the small-town pizzeria, the plot weaves itself into a rom-com with chart-toppers such as “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” “Addicted to Love,” “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now,” “The Power of Love” and “Manic Monday.”

'Dreamers are gonna dream': Oklahoma actor back on stage with 'Hadestown' after DACA delay

national tour shows

With a hell-raising story mined from Greek mythology, the hot musical "Hadestown" has entranced audiences with its tuneful trek into "a world of gods and men" since it debuted Off-Broadway in 2016.

For the past two years, J. Antonio Rodriguez has played a key role in bringing the dramatic tale of star-crossed lovers Orpheus and Eurydice to stages across the United States, including his home state of Oklahoma .

"I love it so much. It's so great to just travel the country and be able to do 'Hadestown,' " the University of Oklahoma graduate recently told The Oklahoman by phone from the North American tour of the musical.

The first Hispanic actor to play the lead role of Orpheus, Rodriguez, who grew up in Ardmore , found himself caught up in drama this spring that had nothing to do with theater. He was forced off stage for a month, caught up in a limbo created by apparent bureaucratic backlogs and America's complicated approach to the hot-button topic of immigration .

“All my life, I've done everything right. I've never broken the law. ... Suddenly, I couldn't drive anywhere. I certainly couldn't work. So, it was just me sitting around, trying to control what I can control," he said. "It was really frustrating."

Born in Mexico, Rodriguez , 26, is what's often referred to as a "Dreamer," one of the almost 600,000 young adult beneficiaries of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policy.

DACA is for immigrants who were brought the United States as children. It protects them from deportation and grants them permission to legally work in the country, but with certain provisions, including a requirement to reapply for their status every two years.

"It was great when it first started, because it gave people hope. It was like, 'Oh, great, I'm able to work, I'm able to go to college.' ... But there needs to be some reform. There needs to be a pathway to citizenship," Rodriguez said.

How does the DACA policy work?

DACA recipients are often referred to as "Dreamers," but that wasn't always the case. The DREAM Act, or the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act, would have provided a way to legal status for people who were brought to the U.S. as children. First introduced in 2001, at least 10 versions have failed to pass through Congress.

When a version came close but failed in 2012, then-President Barack Obama issued DACA as an executive order. It was intended as a temporary relief until Congress passed more permanent solutions.

It never did.

In the meantime, DACA has faced frequent challenges. Last fall, a federal judge in Texas ruled that the policy violates federal law. The ruling didn't require the government to take action against current DACA recipients, but prohibited the approval of new applications.

Only immigrants who arrived in the U.S. prior to their 16th birthday, were younger than 31 as of June 15, 2012, were physically present in the U.S. then, and have lived continuously in the country since June 15, 2007, are eligible.

"We can't vote ... and we're still being used as political pawns, where people will talk about us once every four years," Rodriguez said. "We pay our taxes, we go to work and do our thing. But it can get very sad and demoralizing to live in the shadows."

On May 3, President Joe Biden announced that his administration is removing the prohibition on DACA recipients' eligibility for Affordable Care Act coverage. It's projected to help more than 100,000 "Dreamers" get health insurance.

"I’m proud of the contributions of 'Dreamers' to our country and committed to providing 'Dreamers' the support they need to succeed," Biden said in a statement . "Only Congress can provide 'Dreamers' permanent status and a pathway to citizenship. Congress must act."

How did the 'Hadestown' actor come to Oklahoma?

Born in the small Mexican town of Francisco y Madero, Rodriguez's parents brought him to the U.S. when he was 2 years old and stayed because of his health issues.

"We came legally, but then I guess it was a thing of overstaying. ... In Mexico, from what my mother tells me, I was in and out of the doctor's and the hospital a lot. There was something about the climate of where we lived that made me have rashes all over my body all of the time. I would have a hard time breathing, and I would get sick a lot," said Rodriguez, adding he has not been back to Mexico since, although he still has family there.

"So, they made the decision to go to Ardmore, which, to me, is the best thing that could have ever happened."

How did his Oklahoma childhood take Antonio Rodriguez to 'Hadestown?'

As a youngster, he developed his love for theater at Ardmore's Brass Ring Center for the Performing Arts .

"To watch kids that are your kids' age ... grow into the person they will be, it's really gratifying ... and he's an inspiration to those kids there now," said Derrick Harvey, an Ardmore attorney who is a friend of the actor's family.

"I've known the Rodriguez family since my kids were babies. We attend the same church. And they're not just beloved by me, but the entire community as well."

After graduating at the top of his high school class, Rodriguez enrolled in OU's musical theater school . Before and after he earned his degree in 2020 — "that sweet COVID year, so it was an at-home graduation" — he appeared in several Lyric Theatre shows, including "Singin’ in the Rain," "The Rocky Horror Show" and "Grease ."

He joined the national tour of "Hadestown" in February 2022 as an understudy for Orpheus and as a swing performer covering multiple roles. Before he was officially promoted to the lead role in March 2023, he played Orpheus during the show's October 2022 OKC run.

"I'm proud of my Mexican culture and my Mexican heritage ... but Oklahoma — Ardmore specifically — that is my home. That is where I love to be. It's my favorite place in the world," he said.

"It may not say so on a piece of paper, but to me, I'm American. ... I would like to visit Mexico, but the United States is my home."

How did a delay in his DACA renewal force the 'Dreamer' off the stage?

In December, Rodriguez said he filed his two-year DACA renewal application. He got a notice of receipt from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in early January.

"In the past 13 years ... it's never taken longer than five days. But as it was getting closer to March 13, the expiration date, I started to get worried," he said.

"I called USCIS two or three weeks before, and I was like, 'Hey, I'm just calling to make sure everything is going well. I see (online) that no one has looked at my case.' ... They just informed me that there were backlogs or backups — and they don't ever tell you anything. They never explained why."

He anxiously awaited an update, but the March 13 deadline for his DACA approval came and went. So, when he stepped off the stage after that night's performance, he, like Orpheus , found himself caught between worlds.

"It literally felt like limbo. The parallels between me and Orpheus at this point were just dead on," he said with a chuckle. "But it was a pretty dark time."

Since his partner, Cecilia Trippiedi, is a "Hadestown" swing performer and the dance captain, Rodriguez decided to keep traveling with her so that at least he wouldn't be alone.

"I was unable to be paid anymore. But they were still able to keep me on my contract, just to say that I still had the role. But I wasn't actually doing the shows," he said.

"It was three weeks of not belonging anywhere."

How did the Oklahoma 'Dreamer' find his way back to the stage?

With the support of the tour team for the Tony Award-winning show, Rodriguez gave interviews about his plight in theater publications like Playbill and Broadway World . He also emailed the White House and reached out to the Oklahoma Congressional delegation.

On April 3, a staffer for Rep. Tom Cole contacted him. The next day, the actor got his DACA approval.

"I think she was able to get them to expedite the request. ... The support has just been amazing. But what I want to voice and really talk about is that this shouldn't be a thing that anyone has to go through, no matter what connections you have or don't have," Rodriguez said.

"I'm not the only one experiencing this. There are people I know that have waited six, eight months to even hear anything back, which must be so scary. So, it's crazy to think that I'm one of the lucky ones."

Since he could legally work again, the actor was given a week and a half to prepare to resume the role of Orpheus.

"We recognize Antonio's predicament as an issue confronted by many immigrants striving for their place in our society. We are thrilled audiences will see him in 'Hadestown' once again, where his unique talent will continue to dazzle and inspire audiences across the country, just as he is an inspiration to all of us at 'Hadestown,'" the show's producers, Mara Isaacs, Dale Franzen, Hunter Arnold and Tom Kirdahy, said in a statement.

On April 16 in Syracuse, New York, Rodriguez headed back “Way Down Hadestown." He said it went very well.

"I don't know if I was more happy to be back in 'Hadestown,' or if I was more happy to be back with all the people that I love. I think that was what made it more special," he told The Oklahoman by phone moments after leaving the stage for his first performance in a month.

"But the best moment for me was at the very end, after the bows when I was walking off stage, just being able to breathe knowing that I did it. I did my job."

What's next for Oklahoma 'Dreamer' J. Antonio Rodriguez?

Even "The Road to Hell" doesn't go on forever: The "Hadestown" national tour closes May 26 in Toronto. Rodriguez's contract ends on May 12, but he's grateful to know he should be able to perform until his last day.

He and Trippiedi have found an apartment in New York City, and they'll soon be back to the "audition grind" to find their next theater jobs — at least until his next DACA application is due in two years.

"That's definitely scarier now ... but 'Dreamers' are gonna dream," he said.

The actor said he's not going to stop talking about the challenges DACA recipients face now, especially since his parents recently established legal residency and are on track for U.S. citizenship.

"I'm so happy for them. ... But the hope for all the 'Dreamers' is that there is a pathway to citizenship finally made for us. Many of us are paralyzed by fear from speaking out, because, while we are members of this society, every two years, we are reminded that we really aren't," Rodriguez said.

"I didn't realize just how much support I had until I said something. ... The more outcry there is, maybe something will finally be done. Then, we can finally stop dreaming about the better tomorrow and the better outcome, and it will finally become a reality."

HOUSTON (AP) — Time marches on and all good things must come to an end. But don’t tell that to The Rolling Stones .

What many believe to be the greatest rock ’n’ roll band in the world showed no signs of slowing down anytime soon as they kicked off their latest tour Sunday night at Houston’s NRG Stadium.

The Stones have been touring for more than 60 years. Frontman Mick Jagger and lead guitarist Keith Richards are both 80, with guitarist Ronnie Wood not far behind at 76. Their tour is being sponsored in part by AARP.

But during a vibrant two-hour show, the Stones played with the energy of band that was on tour for the first time.

“It’s great to be back in the Lone Star State,” Jagger told the packed stadium, filled with longtime fans, many wearing faded concert shirts from previous tours.

Jagger often strutted up and down the stage with seemingly boundless energy while Richards and Wood played many familiar guitar riffs beloved by fans. Jagger often led the audience in sing-alongs.

“The energy level is up and it’s always up with them. The age doesn’t show,” Dale Skjerseth, the Stones’ production director, said Friday before the concert.

The Stones have hit the road to support the release of their latest album, “Hackney Diamonds,” the band’s first record of original music since 2005.

Houston was the first stop on the band’s 16-city tour across the U.S. and Canada. Other cities on the tour include New Orleans, Philadelphia and Vancouver, British Columbia. The tour ends on July 17 in Santa Clara, California.

During Sunday’s 18-song concert set list, the Stones played several tracks off the new record, including lead single “Angry.” They also played classics including “Sympathy for the Devil,” “Gimme Shelter,” Honky Tonk Women” and “Start Me Up.”

After playing “Beast of Burden,” Jagger said that concertgoers in Houston had voted to include it on the set list.

“You can’t go wrong with that,” one man in the audience could be heard screaming.

The Stones also played some unexpected choices, including “Rocks Off,” from their 1972 double album “Exile on Main St.” and “Out of Time,” a 1966 song that Jagger said during the concert had not ever been played by the band in the U.S.

With the 2021 death of drummer Charlie Watts , the Stones are now comprised of the core trio of Jagger, Richards and Wood. On Sunday, they were backed by various musicians including two keyboardists, a new drummer, backup singers and a brass section.

While the stage was surrounded by a large collection of video screens projecting images throughout the show, the main focus of the concert was the band and their songs

Before Sunday’s concert, Jagger spent time on Friday touring NASA’s Johnson Space Center in suburban Houston, posting photos on his Instagram account of him with astronauts inside Mission Control.

“I had an amazing trip to the space center,” Jagger said.

When asked if the band might be thinking about retiring, Skjerseth said he doubts that will happen.

“This is not the end. They’re very enthused,” he said.

This story has been updated to correct a song title to “Gimme Shelter,” not “Gimmer Shelter.”

Gypsy rose blanchard officially back together with ex-fiancé ken urker, gypsy rose blanchard locks lips with ex-fiancé ken urker ... officially back together.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard and Ken Urker are officially back together ... putting their rekindled love on display at a public event this past weekend ... and TMZ's got the first look!

GRB and her ex-fiancé locked lips and showed off major PDA Saturday in NOLA at the Jazz Fest down there -- and if you thought the first photos showing them cuddled up were something ... wait 'til you get a look at these new shots.

TMZ obtained new photos/videos showing Gypsy and Ken swaying to the music ... and there's a sweet new kissing shot here too -- with the lovebirds locking lips for a big smooch.

To hit the point home, Gypsy tells TMZ ... "After reconnecting earlier this month, we realized that our love for each other is simply undeniable, and life is too short to not take a chance."

She adds ... "We have a history that made for the perfect foundation for a new beginning. We are together and in a wonderful place in our relationship. We know it is going to be a long road ahead but are excited for the future"

Gypsy and Ken first got together when GRB was still incarcerated, serving time for the role she played in mom Dee Dee Blanchard 's death. Gypsy and Ken connected through a prison pen pal program ... and got engaged in April 2019.

However, they eventually called off the engagement ... leading Gypsy to connect with a new pen pal, Ryan Anderson . In July 2022, Gypsy and Ryan tied the knot in a ceremony behind bars ... but separated in 2024 -- only a few short months after her release from prison .

While sources told us Gypsy was enjoying her single life ... she also loved spending quality time with Ken again, who reached out after her breakup news went public.

Clearly ... a lot has happened between these two since then. Gypsy and Ken have met up for a handful of adventures together lately ... hitting a tattoo parlor , the dollar store , and more spots in the last several weeks. In just about all of those, they looked real cozy.

Now, they're ready to embrace their newfound love ... it's Gypsy and Ken's time, y'all.
