2024 Darts Calendar: Every major televised tournament, dates, results and where to watch

Planet Sport brings you the full 2024 darts calendar, featuring every major televised event from the PDC, and all the results from around the world.

The year began with Luke Humphries ending the World Championship dreams of Luke Littler.

The 16-year-old debutant set Alexandra Palace alight over the festive period and was one win away from producing one of the greatest sporting stories of all time by becoming the youngest world champion.

But he fell at the final hurdle and was left in tears as Humphries showed why he is the new world number one with a scintillating 7-4 victory, which saw him lift the Sid Waddell trophy for the first time.

But Littler roared back claiming the Bahrain Darts Masters a few weeks later, and continued his good form through the year, winning the Austrian, Belgian and Poland Darts Opens and also claimed the Premier League crown too.

Humphries also continued to have a great year becoming just the fourth man to win the World Championship and World Matchplay in the same year. He also claimed the German Darts Grand Prix and the World Cup of Darts for England with partner Michael Smith.

Draw revealed for second tournament of PDC Development Tour 2024

Friday afternoon in Milton Keynes begins the second tournament of the year on the PDC Development Tour 2024. The Development Tour is the youth circuit of the PDC. This tour is open to players aged 16 through 23. Players who turn 24 during the season may continue to compete.

The PDC Development Tour circuit consists of 24 tournaments. At each Development Tour tournament there is a prize pool of 15,000 pounds to be distributed.

With the prize money, a ranking is established. At the end of the season, the numbers one and two receive an invitation to the World Darts Championship, plus a Tour Card for 2025 and 2026. The winner of the ranking also gets to compete in the Grand Slam of Darts.

Darts live: German Darts Championship mit Pietreczko und Max Hopp im Free-TV

Auf der PDC European Tour steht ein besonderes Highlight bevor. Vom 30. August bis zum 1. September findet in Hildesheim die German Darts Championship statt - und SPORT1 überträgt den Darts-Kracher live im Free-TV und im kostenlosen Stream.

Vor allem Ricardo Pietreczko dürfte beste Erinnerungen an das Event haben. Der deutsche Darts-Profi geht als Titelverteidiger ins Turnier. 2023 hatte „Pikachu“ im Finale mit 8:4 gegen Peter Wright gewonnen - und damit als erst zweiter Deutscher nach Max Hopp überhaupt ein PDC-Turnier für sich entschieden.

Damals wie auch jetzt wieder wird um ein Preisgeld in Höhe von 30.000 Pfund (gut 35.000 Euro) gespielt.

Pietreczko, Schindler und Hopp am Start

Teilnahmeberechtigt für die German Darts Championship sind die Top-16 der Weltrangliste.

Dazu kommen die besten 16 Spieler des Pro Tour-Order of Merit (für die zweite Runde gesetzt). Außerdem bilden zehn Gewinner eines Qualifikationsturniers für Inhaber einer Tourkarte, vier nationale Qualifikanten, ein Spieler aus der Region Nordic & Baltic und ein osteuropäischer Qualifikant das Feld.

Gespielt wird bis zum Viertelfinale zunächst im Modus Best-of-11-Legs - für einen Sieg braucht es also sechs gewonnene Legs. Im Halbfinale heißt es dann Best-of-13, im Endspiel Best-of-15.

Neben Pietreczko gehört aus deutscher Sicht auch Martin Schindler zu den gesetzten Spielern. Hopp ist als einer der nationalen Qualifikanten dabei.
