Iron Maiden Announce 2024 ‘Future Past’ North American Tour

By Charisma Madarang

Charisma Madarang

Iron Maiden is following a phenomenal performance at Power Trip earlier this month with a 2024 North American leg of its Future Past tour.

“We’re really excited to be bringing THE FUTURE PAST TOUR back to Canada and the United States next year. We know from the reaction of our fans at Power Trip and the shows we played in Canada recently that they really enjoyed hearing new songs from both Senjutsu and Somewhere In Time, and we’ve really enjoyed playing them!” said Bassist Steve Harris.

The trek has featured fan favorites alongside songs from the group’s 2021 studio album Senjutsu , which Rolling Stone praised as “one of the most rewarding and vital albums in Maiden’s catalog,” and 1986’s Somewhere In Time . According to a press release, Iron Maiden has played to over 750,000 fans at more than 30 sold-out shows across Europe in the summer of 2023.

Iron Maiden Announce 2024 North American Leg of The Future Past Tour

Iron Maiden have officially announced tour dates for the 2024 North American leg of The Future Past Tour.

This new tour cycle, which heavily concentrates on Maiden's latest record,  Senjutsu , as well as the 1986 classic  Somewhere In Time , kicked off on May 28 in Slovenia. The set features five songs apiece from the aforementioned records, and another five tracks from elsewhere in the catalog, making it another unique run in the band's storied history.

Iron Maiden closed out 2023 with three performances in Canada, which led up to the final show of the year — a high profile appearance at this year's Power Trip festival .

In 2024, fans across North America will finally have their opportunity to catch The Future Past Tour, with dates stretched from Oct. 4 in San Diego, California to Nov. 17 in San Antonio, Texas. Plus they just announced an additional November show in Chile.

Tickets will go on sale on Nov. 3 at 10AM local for the North American dates, while the Chile show will go on sale Nov. 2 at 12PM local time, with pre-sales starting earlier in the week. And if you don't see your town listed, the band says, "Future dates for 2024 will be announced in due course." Visit the band's website for more details.

Recent tour reviews

I've seen Iron Maiden four times prior to this show: 2007 'A Matter of Life and Death' tour (Earl's Court), 2011 'The Final Frontier' tour (O2 London), 2013 'Maiden England' tour (O2 London), and 2017 'Book of Souls' tour, and they just get better and better everytime. Last nights sold-out show at the O2 in London for the penultimate night of the 'Legacy of the Beast' tour was spectacular - when it opened with a life-sized moving WWII Spitfire you knew it was going to be something special! The production was next level; fantastic stage sets, larger-than-life Eddie's, fireworks, flames, lasers - even LAVA for goodness sake!

They may be at or around bus-pass and pension collecting age, but the six members of Iron Maiden perform on stage like men half their age. What their age really gives them is the experience and "seen it all" knowledge to put on a perfectly polished show with no hiccups or slip-ups (and nearly no fall-downs, eh Bruce!). This is a band and crew working at their absolute best and in perfect sync, and you need to see a show like this in a venue like the O2 arena just to appreciate the sheer scale of it.

Sadly, the tour comes to an end the following night, but if you ever get the chance, go see Iron Maiden perform - they really are one of the best live bands in the world.

Well, it was genuinely fantastic. I saw Maiden about 10 years ago and am not the most massive fan so am familiar with their old stuff, not so much the new. Given that a lot of the 80s bands are showing their age now, I wasn't expecting to be blown away. How wrong I was. Right off the bat, power, energy, blam! Straight into Aces High complete with a full size Spitfire swinging about overhead. Talk about an opening statement. This tour seems to be a greatest hits kind of thing rather than an extension of the Book of Souls Tour. All the bangers were in there, apart from Wasted Years which is a personal favourite. Eddie of course made an entrance during The Trooper. Every band member seemed to be having the time of their life and the most important factor, Bruce's voice, was right on point. Only criticism was that the show was a bit short at just under 2 hours but it flew by. Best show I've seen for a long time. Get a ticket if you can!

There is an intense debate that has split the Metal legions into two very vehement factions and that has lasted several decades now: Priest or Maiden? Some reasonable fans have managed to keep a level-headed, measured approach by saying both are great bands in their own right, blah blah blah... Fuck that. I like Judas Priest, they're pretty cool. But I'm a Maiden guy all the way. And over the last two nights I was reminded as to why.

The first night started auspiciously as I got into the venue a bit too late, but still not late enough to miss Bland Metal stalwarts Raven Age, a band so generic and faceless that makes you wonder why they are on so many big tours and festivals. Well, wonder no more: the guitarist is Steve Harris' son. Maiden have a habit of taking their offsprings' bands on the road with them, making the nepotism that's rampant in the Trump administration pale in comparison. They came, they played, and then went back to their hotel to play X-Box presumably.

After about 30 minutes, the ritual starts: UFO's Doctor, Doctor starts blaring on the PA and we know what's coming next: Maiden are about to come on. And sure enough, after Churchill's speech, they make the grandest entrance I've seen from any band. As a life-size spitfire replica hangs over them, they blaze into Aces High and the audients lose their collective and proverbial shit.

Over the course of the next 90 minutes or so, they play every major classic and some less obvious tracks, including some from the much-maligned Blaze Bailey era. The scenography is jaw-dropping: every song is illustrated by its own backdrop, and a lot of them feature cool props and theatrics that bring the songs to life and weave them into a coherent narrative in an exciting and clever way.

Now, because of my late arrival I wasn't able to secure a spot near the stage as I prefer, but the show is so huge and bombastic that it didn't matter much. Consequently the pictures in the following link are kind of shitty but they do give an accurate idea of the spectacle:

https://electriceyephoto.blogspot.com/2018/07/iron-maiden-accorhotels-arena-bercy.htm

Night two however was a different story. If the show was absolutely identical (save for the Bruce speeches that referenced the world cup and the Icarus icon that didn't work the first night) I managed to secure an early entry bracelet.

https://farm1.staticflickr.com/841/43250474861_8f380d36db_m.jpg

So I stood just a little left of center, second row in front of the stage.

Now the problem with the early entry is that I had a lot of time to kill so I used that time to re-read War and Peace. The ending still sucks.

That was the view of the venue when I entered:

https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1787/42334569005_8cb868660e_c.jpg

And that was the view before Maiden:

https://farm1.staticflickr.com/844/43250593251_b1b5ecc646_c.jpg

Maybe it's because I was closer but Raven Age seems a little less annoying this time. The singer still looks like a total douche canoe, but the other guys were just kids having a blast and that made their performance somewhat endearing. I'm not going to buy their records anytime soon but I no longer wish them severe bodily harm.

https://electriceyephoto.blogspot.com/2018/07/the-raven-age-accorhotels-arena-bercy.html

I'll be 40 in less than two weeks (yikes) and I thought being up front at metal shows was behind me. Well, I guess not. I had a fucking blast, even with all the crazy hairy dudes sweating beer all over me. Maybe I secretly like it? God what a breakthrough!

As I said the show was identical but so much more intense from the second row... Bruce was his usual funny self, addressing the crowd in French throughout, nailing every note and committed to bringing every song to life. The man is a force of nature and the best frontman in metal.

https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aH1HhTGCK98/W0BigZQo58I/AAAAAAAAbsk/uwVM1O27Yl8ysiSMsoo_GIxU0zDdLOFFgCLcBGAs/s1600/Iron%2BMaiden06072018_15.jpg

Dave Murray always looks friendly and affable (and possibly a little inebriated) and plays really well.

https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kGjodHU0WrI/W0BiwyReb6I/AAAAAAAAbwc/uOEWuYYmlIgm3Hh0G7SlvIX4CEJAh7k7ACLcBGAs/s1600/Iron%2BMaiden06072018_205.jpg

Adrian Smith, to me, is the one with the coolest leads.

https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-03NRFsyfJi8/W0Bixab9diI/AAAAAAAAbwo/zB6G7H2ZQAwLBCsmH4dW9VtiL3_JZSXFQCLcBGAs/s1600/Iron%2BMaiden06072018_208.jpg

I know people dislike The Prancer and I get it. I happen to enjoy the fun he brings to the show. Jannick dancing around like a ballerina and barely playing his guitar is still more rock and roll than your average metal band member frowning and trying to look all dark and evil.

https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WejIISchM9Y/W0BjNtFdYBI/AAAAAAAAb3I/ATRvzQH8aQ8kevfmTWfDA1jIbzCmWRcogCLcBGAs/s1600/Iron%2BMaiden06072018_301.jpg

Nicko was barely visible, for some reason they hid his drum kit behind some sort of camouflage so his head would pop out every once in a while (well, his nose mostly, as it now takes up three quarters of his face). He did mess up a few things here and there on both nights but he and the band recovered seemlessly.

https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FDteQj_08bs/W0Bj1r-PA-I/AAAAAAAAb_w/LDc6gtFW8MctKZ_XZHGWI__WES4TvqbUgCLcBGAs/s1600/Iron%2BMaiden06072018_99.jpg

And Steve Harris of course is his usual intense, quiet self. Mouthing every word while playing those galloping bass lines, anchoring the whole operation, even gently mocking Bruce when he begins to ramble on for too long.

https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qWxW25uIvsU/W0BjRV4xonI/AAAAAAAAb34/1burESWjaTEUZqgtvb9WpWwi2pjFrPHtwCLcBGAs/s1600/Iron%2BMaiden06072018_312.jpg

That was Maiden concert number eight for me and I don't know how they'll ever top that. But if they want to try I'll be there for sure. Up the Irons!

https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VdU3aNJ_w9M/W0Bimu5-EfI/AAAAAAAAbuE/VwRfeANcMbAFyoSfEf_w5dXxBLH8EY7igCLcBGAs/s1600/Iron%2BMaiden06072018_171.jpg

A shitload more pics in the link below. Some are quite badass, if I may say so myself, but even they don't do the show justice. It's to be seen to be believed, but mostly it's to be heard. Sure, they could have played other classics, other hits, more obscure stuff. But that's the problem with having such a vast repertoire. The show is perfect how it is. The sequencing, the pacing, the visuals, the song selection... This is the best Maiden show and this is the best metal show. Even if you're a casual you will be awe struck and if you're already a fan no doubt you will leave the venue even more of a die-hard than when you entered.

The Iron Maiden tour adds Phoenix date in 2024. Here's how to get tickets to the concert

I conic British heavy metal veterans Iron Maiden have added a Phoenix date to the North American leg of the Future Past Tour, playing Footprint Center on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024, with Mongolian metal greats the Hu.

No further shows will be announced for North America.

The Hu issued a statement saying, “Iron Maiden is the master of the masters of rock music. They are one of the biggest inspirations to us! The way that they create and perform their music is majestic and we still remember the first time we heard their ‘Trooper’ song and felt the deep energy behind each word.”

This will be their 17th performance in the Valley since playing Memorial Coliseum on June 4, 1981, as part of the Killer World Tour, their first time in the U.S.

Future Past Tour features songs from 'Senjetsu,' 'Somewhere in Time'

The Future Past Tour, which features songs from Maiden’s latest studio release, “Senjutsu,” and 1986’s seminal “Somewhere in Time” alongside other fan favorites, played to more than 750,000 fans at more than 30 sold-out shows across Europe in the summer of 2023.

They also played Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver alongside their highly praised appearance at California’s Power Trip Festival in October, which had Consequence raving “Iron Maiden set the bar high at Power Trip” and The Desert Sun saying they “delivered a hard-hitting performance to open the festival on a high note."

The tour features one of the most spectacular stage productions of Maiden’s career.

Ed Force One: A Look At IRON MAIDEN's Private Jets

Iron Maiden is one of the most famous rock bands of all time, reports Justin Foster for Simple Flying . The English heavy metal band first formed in 1975, nearly fifty years ago. The band was started by the famous bassist, Steve Harris.

The makeup of the band changed early on, although some, like Nicko McBrain, Dave Murray, Adrian Smith, and Janick Gers, were some of the most consistent band members.

Additionally, the band added Bruce Dickinson as its singer in 1981, which many consider the move that brought Iron Maiden into one of the most popular heavy metal bands of all time.

The band found great success in the late 1990s and the 2000s, especially after Dickinson returned to the band after a hiatus. His hiatus was spent learning to fly, as he was an avid aviation enthusiast, and he eventually earned an airline transport pilot's license. Overall, the band sold over 130 million copies of their albums.

The band became so popular that it performed on some of the biggest world tours of all time, including the Somewhere Back in Time World Tour and later The Book of Souls World Tour. These tours were so big that Iron Maiden required a large private jet to transport them and their equipment.

Both of the aircraft for these two tours were nicknamed Ed Force One, which was the winner of an online competition. Let's take a closer look at the aircraft that Iron Maiden flew on for some of their most popular tours.

The first Boeing aircraft on tour:

The first Ed Force One was utilized on the Somewhere Back In Time World Tour, which lasted from 2008 through 2009. This aircraft is a Boeing 757-200, and is currently registered as N938FD.

This Boeing 757 was first delivered in March 1989, and it went to Air 2000, initially. Since then, the aircraft has also passed to Canada 3000 Airlines several times.

However, in March 2006, Astraeus Airlines, a charter company that was based in Crawley, United Kingdom, took control of the aircraft. Under the control of Astraeus Airlines, the aircraft was registered as G-OJIB.

During the time the aircraft was owned by Astraeus is when Iron Maiden chartered the aircraft for its international tour. This aircraft flew for the band over 90 different tour dates, which spanned 52 countries. It also featured a specific livery for the band, that Astraeus Airlines left after the tour was over.

However, after Astraeus Airlines went bankrupt in 2011, FedEx took ownership of the aircraft. It has been flying with the company since July 2012, after it was converted to a freighter aircraft. It remains in service to this day, per ch-aviation.

STEVE HARRIS Says There Is No New IRON MAIDEN Music In The Works At The Moment

In an interview with Australia's "Everblack" podcast, Steve Harris was asked if there is any new music from IRON MAIDEN on the way. The MAIDEN bassist responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET ): "No, not at the moment. There's nothing in the works at the moment. But that's not to say there won't be.

" Bruce [ Dickinson , IRON MAIDEN singer] has only just done his solo tour. So he spent quite a long time just doing that. So, I don't know. Yeah. I mean, maybe we'll find time to cram [a new album] in somewhere. You never know."

Regarding his plans for the rest of the year, Steve said: "I'm on tour for the next four months [with IRON MAIDEN and side project BRITISH LION ] up till Christmas. So I'm not really sure what we're doing after that. I suppose we'll probably take a break with MAIDEN for a little while. I've got no plans at the moment for anything with BRITISH LION early part of next year. But if something comes in, I find it difficult to turn stuff down. So, we'll see."

MAIDEN 's latest album, "Senjutsu" , was released in September 2021 via BMG . The band's first LP in six years was recorded in 2019 in Paris with longstanding producer Kevin Shirley and co-produced by Harris . It features three tracks whose running time exceeds 10 minutes each.

For "Senjutsu" — loosely translated as "tactics and strategy" — the band once again enlisted the services of Mark Wilkinson to create the spectacular Samurai-themed cover artwork, based on an idea by Harris .

In the U.S., "Senjutsu" bowed at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart, charting higher than even the band's early classics like "Powerslave" and "The Number Of The Beast" . Nearly 90 percent of the LP's 64,000 equivalent album units earned came from pure album sales. The critically acclaimed double album debuted one place higher than 2015's "The Book Of Souls" and 2010's "The Final Frontier" , which both peaked at No. 4.

"Senjutsu" was MAIDEN 's 13th album to top in the Top 40 in the U.S.

According to Billboard , "Senjutsu" logged the second-largest week of 2021 for a hard rock album in both equivalent album units earned and in traditional album sales.

"Senjutsu" topped the charts in several European countries upon its release, including in Belgium, Finland, Germany, Italy, Sweden and Switzerland.

KJ Playlist: Iron Maiden Best Live Tracks

Posted on August 30, 2024 by kjdraven

iron maiden tour 2024

Iron Maiden are here!

After the pandemic shafted us the Australian leg of The Legacy of the Beast tour, the British metal legends kick off their Australian Tour on Sunday, Sept 1st with their bombastic Future Past Tour . They’ll be performing tunes from their newest album Sinjutsu and 80s classic Somewhere in Time (plus a couple of classics).

No spoilers here so for this playlist I’ve pulled 19 tracks from their many live albums. There’s some of their biggest anthems and a few deeper cuts that haven’t appeared often enough!

1. ‘Intro (Churchill’s Speech)’/‘Aces High’

Opener on one of metal’s all-time great live albums – Live After Death . From the Winston Churchill intro the high energy riffing it’s as good an intro to the live Maiden experience as any.

2. ‘Be Quick or Be Dead’

A rattle on the snare & it’s a high octane opener from Live at Donington . Hardly played since.

3. ‘2 Minutes to Midnight’

Classic riff, huge chorus. Hardly left the set since it debuted. From the film Flight 666 , recorded live in Melbourne.

4. ‘Speed of Light’

Lead single from Book of Souls that has a massive hook. Just a cracking tune. From Book of Souls Live Chapter , recorded live in Cape Town.

5. ‘No More Lies’

Underrated gem from Dance of Death live album Death on the Road that works live with its easy to chant chorus. Sadly only appeared on two tours thus far.

6. ‘Wrathchild’

A live favourite, captured here at Hammersmith in 1982. A good track becomes great when Bruce does vocals. Worth noting how high Bruce can go in his early Maiden days.

7.  ‘The Clairvoyant’

The key change separates it from other singles. Killer synths too. Arguably peak Maiden captured here on Maiden England ‘88 .

8. ‘Coming Home’

En Vivo is excellent with a riotous Chilean crowd who bring ‘Coming Home’ to life. A newer song at the time, the audience delivers the chorus with gusto.

9. ‘Man on the Edge’

Blaze era song that Bruce performed when he first rejoined. Kicks butt, but it’s an older kind of Maiden song & is sadly forgotten in favour of more epic compositions.

10. ‘The Wicker Man’

What a comeback. After the Blaze years, Brave New World then Rock in Rio proved Smith & Dickinson were back to kick ass with the new rocking and rolling triple guitar attack.

11. ‘The Clansman’

Epic, one Bruce has taken on & elevated to be the legacy from the otherwise crap Virtual XI . Taken here from Nights of the Dead, Legacy of the Beast – Live in Mexico City . Scream for me: “Freeeeedom!”

12. ‘Bring Your Daughter… to the Slaughter’

Their UK #1 single hasn’t been performed live in two decades. As a result there’s only two official live versions out there, this one from A Real Live Dead One . Check out the audience participation, it needs to be brought back.

13. ‘The Number of the Beast’

Classic. Can’t be left out. On nearly every live album they’ve done, this version is from Beast Over Hammersmith .

14. ‘Fear of the Dark’

Went to another level after the Rock in Rio performance with the crowd singing the leads becoming a live staple. Hasn’t ever left the setlist since it debuted in 1992.

15. ‘Iron Maiden’

Standard set closer so Eddie can appear. Only a verse and chorus repeated from start to finish but plenty of crowd involvement. Like ‘Fear…’ it’s in every set.

16. ‘Wasted Years’

What a riff by Adrian Smith . Left out of the set for a while but is a regular again, captured here for the first time on Maiden England ‘88 .

17. ‘The Trooper’

A live classic, with the wordless chorus reaching iconic status at metal festivals. Steve Harris’ galloping bass is legendary. One of the best tracks on Live After Death .

18. ‘Hallowed Be Thy Name’

The best Iron Maiden song. Does it all with flair and drama. Bruce’s best vocal performance despite the gruelling schedule prior to recording Life After Death in LA.

19. ‘Prowler’

Something different to end on, a D’Anno era underrated track that hasn’t been done in 20 years.

However, after Astraeus Airlines went bankrupt in 2011, FedEx took ownership of the aircraft. It has been flying with the company since July 2012, after it was converted to a freighter aircraft. It remains in service to this day, per ch-aviation .

About the Boeing 757

The Boeing 757 is one of the most popular narrow-body airliners in the world. Boeing first designed the aircraft as a successor to its earlier narrow-body, the Boeing 727 .

It flew for the first time in February 192, and it was officially introduced the following January with the aircraft's launch partner, Eastern Air Lines. The aircraft was produced from 1981 through 2004, and over 1,000 total airliners were produced, with many of them still in service today.

The newly developed 757 featured several state-of-the-art features, including a supercritical wing with double slotted flaps, carbon-fiber reinforced wing surfaces, Kevlar fairings, and taller landing gear.

The aircraft was powered by either two Rolls-Royce RB211 turbofan engines or two Pratt & Whitney PW2000 turbofan engines. These each provide around 40,000 pounds of thrust depending on the variant. Overall, the Boeing 757-200 has the following specifications:

The second Boeing aircraft on tour

On Iron Maiden's next world tour, The Book of Souls World Tour, the band looked to fly another Boeing aircraft. However, this time, the band turned to the legendary Boeing 747-200 instead.

This aircraft provided enough room for the equipment and all personnel, and it did not require as much of a conversion as the previous aircraft.

The aircraft that Iron Maiden used for its 2016 world tour was first delivered to Air France in 2003. It operated it for over ten years, operating it as F-GITH.

However, it was transferred to Air Atlanta Icelandic in 2015. Just a year after the aircraft was received, Air Atlanta Icelandic leased it to Iron Maiden for their world tour.

After the tour, Air Atlanta Icelandic leased the aircraft to Saudi Arabian Airlines, where it saw regular service. However, it was officially grounded in March 2020, and, finally, the aircraft was scrapped, putting an end to its history.

About the Boeing 747

The Boeing 747 is perhaps the most famous wide-body aircraft that Boeing has produced. The large double-decker aircraft was first developed in the 1960s, as Pan Am wanted an aircraft more than double the size of the Boeing 707 to reduce its seating costs.

Boeing flew the aircraft for the first time in February 1969, and later introduced it with Pan Am the following year. It was produced in multiple variants from 1968 to 2023. Over 1,500 Boeing 747s were produced, with many still in service today.

The jumbo jet was produced with a partial double-deck and a raised cockpit, so it could easily be converted to a freighter. It is powered by four engines, either the Pratt & Whitney JT9D, the General Electric CF6, or the Rolls-Royce RB211 engines. Overall, the Boeing 747-200 has the following performance specifications:
