In this article, I share my top 25 favorite quotes for travel photographers of all stripes, including beginners, hobbyists, and even professionals. I’ve tried to include a mix of sources, so while some of the quoted photographers are classic travel shooters, others are much more contemporary.

I encourage you to read each quote carefully. Think about what it means. Then pick your favorites, write them down (or memorize them!), and try to apply them to your own photography on a regular basis.

So without further ado, let’s take a look at the best travel photography quotes in 2022, starting with some absolute classics.

Travel quotes about adventure are our favorite because we are always pushing our boundaries and when we’re feeling a little afraid or lazy, we always think of this quote. Plus, I like this much better than his other quote: “Travel is never a matter of money, but of courage.”

It’s true! Of all the travel quotes in this list, I really feel that it rings true to life. Even if you are not traveling, you need to step out of your comfort zone.

When looking for travel quotes about adventure travel, this one really stuck out by Maya Angelou. It wasn’t until we started to live a life less ordinary that we understood how much control we had over our lives and just how amazing we could make it.

This doesn’t only have to be one of those quotes on travel alone. Life itself has a lot of potholes. Whether you are traveling or at home working at your job, you should definitely enjoy the journey.

Are you wanting to travel the world but are afraid to take the next step? The travel quote above says it all. Fear is only temporary , but if you don’t follow your dream, you may regret it forever.

We are not saying to follow travel quotes like this blindly. Don’t put yourself in dangerous situations, but don’t let being afraid of the unknown consume you either.

This is one of my favorite travel quotes on adventure travel. It’s scary to step out of your comfort zone, but if you do so with proper training and guidance, a whole new life will begin!

Well to me this quote means you have to leave your burdens, your stress, and your preconceived notions behind. To understand travel, you must be open to new possibilities and it will change your life.

19. “Climb the mountain so you can see the world, not so the world can see you. ~ David McCullough

This is one of those quotes about travel that has never rung truer than in today’s society. Everyone is traveling to show off and brag or catch a selfie rather than to have an experience. But its the experience that you’ll remember, not the social share.

It’s true, we all have to do our job and have our careers. And that is important we need to make money to be able to live. But it is also important to take time to smell the roses and let go of work when you are not in the office.

We have always looked at our lives this way, jobs fill your pocket so that you can spend your down time having a great adventure. Be it travel or at home, life begins outside the office.

I love funny travel quotes. Sometimes when we get stressed out or frustrated with travel, we need to sit back and laugh about the little things.

We all have worries every day and more than ever the state of the world is in question. But travel makes you forget your troubles and Charles Schulz couldn’t have said it better. It’s the funniest of travel quotes.

We have always given the advice that if you want to test to see if you are compatible in your relationship, go and travel together for a while.

When traveling, things are often out of our control and we have found that it is better to relax and let go. And that is true for our marriage as well. We can’t always be in control and that is half the fun!

This is a rather funny travel quote by Anthony Bourdain, but it is also very true. Some of our best travel experiences have been when having a few drinks with the locals.

So when we are out late at night, we look to these types of travel quotes for justification. hah!

This quote reminds me of my dad. He’s always telling silly jokes like this and I love it!

26. “There is nothing safer than flying, it’s the crashing that’s dangerous.” ~ Theo Cowa

For those of you who are afraid to fly, I am afraid that you are not going to find the humor in this travel quote, but I find it quite cheeky.

27. “I always like to go to Washington D.C. It gives me a chance to visit my money.” ~ Bob Hope

This one made me chuckle because we were just in Ottawa (Canada’s National Capital) and we made a point of saying “ Now we know where our taxes go, look at all the beautiful museums and buildings in this city! ”

And even though Bob Hope was talking about his home country of the USA, it certainly rings true anywhere. So, we put it in our best travel quotes list, because everyone can relate!

28. “Jet Lag is for Amateurs.” ~ Dick Clark

While I think it’s a funny travel quote, I tend to disagree with Dick Clark. It seems that the more I travel, the worse jet lag gets. But then I suck it up and think of him and then I say “Deal with it Deb, Jet Lag is for amateurs.” See, travel quotes can be motivating!

29. “Travel is glamorous only in retrospect.” ~ Paul Theroux

I love this travel quote so much because it is very true. When we come home from our travels, we always forget the tough times and difficult experiences.

We only remember the beautiful things about our travels and the bad stuff fades away. But let me tell you, we’ve had some very unglamorous travels in our lives.

30. “I wish I had never gone traveling.” Said no one ever.

I don’t know who said this travel quote, but it is straightforward and to the point. If you are looking for travel quotes that capture the feeling of travel, this is it!

Inspirational travel quotes can be life-changing. I used to have quotes taped all over my house and now that we have moved into a house again, I’m collecting inspiring quotes about life and adventure. Words have meaning and can change mindsets.

I am going to update this quote though and say Woman and Man Cannot discover new oceans until they lose sight of the shore.

When Dave and I first started our careers in travel, we kept one toe in our careers and one toe in travel. It wasn’t until we finally let go of our safe life in the film industry and took a chance to go all into our new adventure travel careers that everything changed.

We all make mistakes in life and travel. Travel quotes can be relatable in life as well. And it really is the mishaps and adventures you have along the road of life and travel that make for everlasting memories.

34. “The important thing is to never stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing” ~ Albert Einstein

35. “travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer.”.

Okay so maybe it isn’t exactly the truest of travel quotes because if you buy a house, it may grow in value and if you buy stocks, you may get lucky and hit the jackpot, but you can never go wrong with travel.

But travel brings riches in life with experiences, learning, and making new friends.

Quotes about traveling often have a message of being free from possessions and things, and instead of having life experiences instead. It think this travel quote says it the best.

When we saw the Taj Mahal for the first time, we had heard about it many times. We had read about it and people had told us all about it. But it wasn’t until we saw it that we really understand its beauty and meaning.

Isn’t this just the dream? I love it when I take a trip and clearly do not have a plan. That is when the real adventures happened in our travels.

It’s a short one, but oh it’s a good one. Whenever we meet someone that is starting to travel or is thinking of traveling, we always think of this quote by Dr. Suess.

Okay so maybe Ralph Waldo Emerson deserves the credit for Life is a journey, not a destination, but we heard it first through Aerosmith, so I’m giving it to Aerosmith. Because I couldn’t find the proof anyway.

I’ll never forget being in Vietnam in 2003 and while sitting in a bar, they encouraged travelers to write their favorite quotes on its wall.

What did Dave choose? Life’s a journey, not a destination naturally. We have always lived by this motto and of course adventure is for everyone.

Why does this travel quote resonate so much with us? Before we traveled, we felt that we never truly lived. The more we worked, the more exhausted and disconnected we felt. When we introduced travel into our lives, we felt alive again.

To us, memories mean more than things. When we are out with friends, we have so much to talk about. It’s way more meaningful to have a memory to share than to show off a “thing.”

We got this traveling quote from our friend JD of EarthXplorer. Well said JD! There is no better piece of advice. I wish my niece and nephews listened to me when I told them this.

Whenever I read this quotation on travel, I always think of the singer Dido. Do you know that song ? “I’ve still got sand in my shoes and I can’t shake the thought of you.” When traveling to islands and beaches , this one always pops into my mind.

Great travel quotes, although I don’t get this one… The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes. Does travel give you new eyes or do you have to have your eyes open before traveling? Hmm, things to think about.

These really are inspirational travel quotes. I love this one by Anthony Bourdain. “Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. I love seeing the combinations of quotes matched with photos. I really should do this with a lot of our travel photos so I have something to look at and continually motivate me to keep adventuring and taking the path less followed.

We used to share daily travel quotes on Instagram and Twitter and then a few years ago we decided that one comprehensive post would be a better idea. So we rounded them up and put them in. The more I become aware of, the more I realize how relatively little I know of it, how many places I have still to go, how much more there is to learn.   Maybe that’s enlightenment enough – to know that there is no final resting place of the mind, no moment of smug clarity. Perhaps wisdom, at least for me, means realizing how small I am, and unwise, and how far I have yet to go.

Food is everything we are. It’s an extension of nationalist feeling, ethnic feeling, your personal history, your province, your region, your tribe, your grandma. It’s inseparable from those from the get-go.

Southeast Asia has a real grip on me. From the very first time I went there, it was a fulfillment of my childhood fantasies of the way travel should be.

I wanted adventures. I wanted to go up the Nung river to the heart of darkness in Cambodia . I wanted to ride out into a desert on camelback, sand and dunes in every direction, eat whole roasted lamb with my fingers. I wanted to kick snow off my boots in a Mafiya nightclub in Russia. I wanted to play with automatic weapons in Phnom Penh, recapture the past in a small oyster village in France, step into a seedy neon-lit pulqueria in rural Mexico. I wanted to run roadblocks in the middle of the night, blowing past angry militia with a handful of hurled Marlboro packs, experience fear, excitement, wonder.   I wanted kicks – the kind of melodramatic thrills and chills I’d yearned for since childhood, the kind of adventure I’d found as a little boy in the pages of my Tintin comic books. I wanted to see the world – and I wanted the world to be just like the movies.

At this point I think my body is like an old car. Another dent ain’t gonna make a whole lot of difference. At best it’s a reminder that you’re still alive and lucky as hell. Another tattoo, another thing you did, another place you’ve been.

Without experimentation, a willingness to ask questions and try new things, we shall surely become static, repetitive, and moribund.

If I’m an advocate for anything, it’s to move. As far as you can, as much as you can. Across the ocean, or simply across the river. The extent to which you can walk in someone else’s shoes or at least eat their food, it’s a plus for everybody. Open your mind, get up off the couch, move.

Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that’s okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.

Shoot the breeze

According to Dictionary.com , ‘shooting the breeze' is a slang term first used in 1919. It simply means a casual conversation about nothing important. Just as taking aim at the breeze would be pointless, this phrase refers to chatter that has no direction or purpose. It's a common phrase that leaves foreigners stumped.

Ride shotgun

A saying popularized by Western movies, ‘ride shotgun,' is better known worldwide than many other American sayings due to its use in film and television. However, a lot of people still have no idea what ‘riding shotgun' means. All it means is to sit in the front passenger seat of a car!

You will most commonly hear this saying in the dating world as it refers to how you split the bill. As the saying may suggest, it actually has no connection to the Netherlands at all and is a US-born saying, simply meaning to split the bill equally between all parties.

Sitting in the nosebleed section

This strange saying refers to events and means that you are sitting in the highest section of a theater or arena. The phrase comes from the fact that high altitudes can lead to nosebleeds. In the UK, you may hear the alternative phrase of ‘up in the Gods,' meaning the same thing.

Plead the Fifth

Without knowledge of the US Constitutional Amendments, ‘plead the Fifth' is a saying that will stump you. It refers to the Fifth Amendment in the US Constitution , which states the right to a jury and the protection of self-incrimination. Anyone who says that they ‘plead the Fifth' means they wish to stay silent on a matter.

Put lipstick on a pig

Commonly used by US politicians, this unusual expression regularly confuses foreigners who keep up with international politics. The phrase is a humorous jab at any attempt to improve something that is ugly or unfixable and means the same thing as another American phrase, ‘to polish a turd.'

Anyone outside of the US may think this American saying is related to dining or food, but that couldn't be more wrong. If someone ‘ate it', this could mean two completely contrasting things. It can either mean someone had a nasty fall or, alternatively, that they performed really well at something.

Ballpark figure

As a nation heavily into sports, many American sayings relate back to sports. A ‘ballpark figure' is a popular example of this, a frequently used US phrase that actually has no relation to baseball. In fact, it is a term used to suggest an estimated figure, usually in the context of finances.

Behind the eight-ball

Being ‘behind the eight ball' means that you're in a difficult position, again relating to sports. UPA explains that one of the rules in a game of billiards is that an eight ball cannot be hit if you're behind it. This is disadvantageous, which is why this phrase is used to express undesirable circumstances.

When someone is trying to make a point, they may finish a sentence by saying ‘period'. In the US, a period is the ‘dot' punctuation mark that concludes a sentence, known as a ‘full stop' in the U.K. Saying ‘period' is essentially trying to emphasize a point and put an end to the conversation.

Working the graveyard shift

‘Working the graveyard shift' has nothing to do with working in a cemetery–it refers to working night shifts. It is an amusing reference to working patterns that start in the late evening and last through the night, finally ending in the early morning.

Put up your dukes

You may hear ‘put up your dukes' in both serious and humorous situations. It simply means putting your fists up and preparing for a fight, which could be said to be both a joke and a threat. Although it derives from Cockney rhyming slang, even Brits don't use this saying.

For the birds

‘For the birds' refers to anything not to be taken seriously, an alternative way to say something like ‘just leave it' or ‘let it go.' Grammarist claims that the slang was first used by the US Army in World War II and derives from the action of leaving out horse droppings ‘for the birds' to eat.

The US is heavily into baseball, and you'll likely have heard first to fourth base mentioned in U.S. entertainment, but the rest of the world has no idea what they mean. Each baseball ‘base' refers to different stages of physical intimacy in a relationship, such as holding hands or kissing.

Monday-morning quarterback

American Football isn't widely followed outside of the US, so other nationalities may have no idea what a quarterback is or what this saying means! It describes a person who expresses criticism after an event, just as a football quarterback may do on a Monday after a weekend sporting event.

Could care less

‘I could care less' often sparks confusion, as it's supposed to mean the same as ‘couldn't care less', a phrase used around the world. Both sayings express disinterest in something, but the confusion around the U.S. version is understandable, as ‘could care less' implies that you do actually care!

‘Table it' is an American phrase that is particularly confusing to Brits. In the US, to table something means putting it aside and returning to it later. Meanwhile, in British English, tabling is an official term used in the UK Parliament , which means to note that something is essential to discuss.

It's a wash

Finally, if something is a wash, two options will lead to the same outcome, and any parties involved in the decision will not be affected either way. An alternative way of using this phrase is to simply say, "It's a tie" or "a draw," with both being commonly used outside the U.S.

Everyone was extremely nice, helpful, and knowledgeable. Jason the owner I met off Yelp. He was quick to answer with any questions I had. The place was clean, and nice outside. They did my breaks and rotors. They were quick and efficient. I will be coming back! Not sure if it matters but I have a Chevy Camaro. (Very picky on where I bring it).

This review is solely for customer service as I did not have any work done on my car on this visit. I was having issues with my car and took it to the dealership where after a $200 diagnostic evaluation, they found nothing wrong. I was still worried about my car so I wanted a second opinion. Since I was in the area I called Nevada Auto Center and explained the situation. Jason was so kind! He offered to take a look for free. His team didn't find any major issues either - so I was extremely grateful for the second opinion, the generosity and fact they didn't try to sell me services I didn't need. I will definitely go back for any future car services!

I want to first and foremost thank everyone who worked on my 2011 Lexus ES350! The mechanic that worked on my car was extremely knowledgeable on my vehicle, from replacing my damaged CV axles to fixing and replacing my faulty window motor. I have had TWO other local auto shops this year rip me off and damage part of my vehicle without remorse. So I am so grateful to Jason and the mechanic who worked on my car. Their prices on their work and parts are extremely reasonable and they don't try and sale you on unnecessary repairs. I appreciate their response and care they took with my vehicle. My car drives like a dream and my stress has evaporated. It is getting harder and harder trusting companies to do the "right" thing, but they have restored my faith. I am extremely happy I found them and I will only be taking my vehicles and recommending Nevada Auto Body.

I have gone here for oil changes always on point. I will continue to go out of my way to only go to them. Jason the owner is always available to answer your questions with a smile. You also feel welcome and not like you are going to be taken advantage of like you do in most vegas shops. I now need more work and they are getting it done. Motor mounts I pick it up tomorrow but I'm sure all will be good.

Requested water pump replacement service here on Yelp and was able to connect with the owner, Jason. From the get Jason was straightforward and provided a transparent quote. He included a recommendation that was a normal part of the procedure and only charged me for parts on what was already a labor intensive process. I appreciate the value Jason offered by not trying to upsell me on unnecessary repairs and for him and his crew going above and beyond in helping my vehicle to run better than before. They even fixed my serpentine belt that was going bad and by doing so earned a long-time customer! This shop was pretty squared away and the vet appreciation was the cherry on top. Thanks Jason and the whole crew over at Nevada Auto!

I had a major problem with my GMC Denali transmission, so I was concerned about getting who to fix it. There is quite a bit of auto centers, but some are not good. So I did some research, and came to the conclusion that Nevada Auto Center had some great reviews and decided to take it to them. I talked to Jason and told him about the problem. His response was that he would check out the transmission thoroughly and contact the warranty company direct to confirm what would be covered on the transmission, which made it much easier for me. He came back with some great news and stated that all would be covered. There was a delay in the shipping of the transmission but Jason and his staff would keep me posted every time I needed the info. If Jason was out , his staff would call him to get an update for me. The Entire staff was awesome, to include the young lady that works at the front desk. All were very nice, very respectful, and got me the answer every time. If you ever need any type of service for your vehicle, do not hesitate to take it to Nevada Auto Center, without a doubt, these people are the best!! Thanks again to you and your team Jason, for going above and beyond!!

BEWARE OF THESE SCAMMERS!!!!!!!!!! I purchased a Groupon alignment package and they did the front alignment and one of the guys that was working there his name is Jason he promised me that they'll align the rear tires for free and they'll honor the Groupon ticket that I got so I didn't have to buy another one or spend more money. When they finished they made me another $56 for the rears when I was promised that I wouldn't have to pay any extra by Jason himself in person!!!! When I brought up to the young lady at the counter and Jason, Jason said he never said that and his tone became hostile. I am very disappointed with their dishonest and untruthful business tactics. I am DEFINITELY NEVER GOING BACK and NEVER recommending this place to absolutely ANYBODY!!!!! Even if they were the last mechanic shop on EARTH!!!!! Stay away from these guys! You're better off finding a better mechanic on OfferUp. best of luck.

Wow, lol. In all my time in this industry I have never read a more hilariously false statement. Our entire shop has cameras. We have audio and visual recordings of both conversations, where both Jay and myself offered the rear alignment for an additional $60 and you verbally agreed and shook your head yes. Then I stated that I would match the discounted Groupon price ($56.40) that you paid for the front so you would not have to buy another Groupon for the rear. Then in the lobby when you mentioned that I said it would be free (which I never did) I apologized for not being more clear, reexplained and asked you if everything was good and you said yes (again on camera). I’m going to report this review but either way I’m glad it’s here and hopefully others get a kick out of it like I did. Good luck in all you do. - Jason
