Sikkim Darjeeling Gangtok Tour Package Itinerary

Day 1 – bagdogra/pakyong/new jalpaiguri station/siliguri to gangtok.

You will be received by our representative at Bagdogra Airport / New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP) / Pakyong Airport. The representative will assist you on a journey to Gangtok. The road journey to Gangtok is adorned with picturesque landscapes and lush greenery. Gangtok is one of the best tourist destinations in northeast India for peace seekers and nature lovers.

On arrival in Gangtok, check into a hotel. Enjoy the delicious dinner at the hotel by own.

Overnight stay in Gangtok.

DAY-2 – Sightseeing in Gangtok

After a delicious breakfast, you will get ready to explore the major tourist attractions in Gangtok. You will visit the famous Tsomgo Lake (12,210 ft) and proceed to the nearby sacred New Baba Mandir. If you want to visit the Nathula Pass (the Indo-China border), you have to inform us in advance. The permit costs an additional Rs.3000 per vehicle (the pass is closed on Mondays).

Later drive back to the Gangtok. In the evening, you can go for local sightseeing, followed by an overnight stay at the hotel in Gangtok.

DAY-3 - Half Day Gangtok Sightseeing and Gangtok to Darjeeling

The day 3 of the tour is divided into the 2 parts: In the first half of the day, you will explore the major tourist attractions of Gangtok namely: 1. Ropeway 2. Do-Drul Chorten 3. Namgyal Institute of Tibetology 4. Directorate of Handicraft & Handloom (Sunday Closed) 5. Flower Show (Orchid)

In the later part of the day, you will embark on the beautiful road journey from Gangtok to Darjeeling. The road trip is dotted with unspoiled natural beauty, alpine landscapes, and peaceful lakes and rivers. Upon arrival in Darjeeling, check into a hotel and explore the local area in the evening by own.

Overnight stay at Darjeeling.

DAY-4 - Sightseeing in Darjeeling and its nearby attractions

Early in the morning, at 4 AM, you will leave for Tiger Hill to see the sunrise over Mt. Kanchenjunga. The beautiful and enthralling experience set the vibe for the rest of the day. You will return to the hotel, have breakfast, and get ready to visit the major attractions of Darjeeling, like:

1. Ghoom Monastery 2. Batasia Loop 3. Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (Thursday closed) 4. P.N Zoological Park (Thursday closed) 5. Tenzing Rock 6. Tibetan Refugee Self-Help Centre (Closed on Sunday) 7. Tea Garden 8. Japanese Temple

Return to the hotel and spend rest of the day in exploring local area by own.

DAY-5 – Drop off at Bagdogra Airport / NJP railway station

DAY 1 : New Jalpaiguri Railway Station(NJP)/Bagdogra Airport(IXB) – Gangtok (130 km/4 hrs drive)

You will find our representative at the New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP) / Bagdogra Airport (IXB) who will help you with your transfer from the arrival place to the tranquil yet adventurous capital of Sikkim, Gangtok. Rhododendrons will be your travel buddy on your way to the final destination. Not a lie, but you will be starstruck to see the eyeful beauty during this journey to your hotel. The New Jalpaiguri Railway Junction is about 116 km away from Gangtok hence would take around 3.5 hours for you to reach the place. On the other hand, the airport finds itself at a distance of 126 km, therefore leaving you with a 3.5 hours ride again. As soon as you reach your hotel, let the fresh breeze sink in. It’s time for you to relax and make the best out of the remaining time by resting and hogging on good food. If you get your energy back, do go for a walk at the mall road or some local marketplace. It’s great for buying souvenirs.

DAY 2 : Gangtok (Full day local sightseeing)

After having a sound sleep, it’s time for you to welcome the other day with sheer excitement. Post your plentiful breakfast head for a Gangtok tour, Today’s day is full of sightseeing and fun. The places that are to be covered include- Ganesh Tok Sprawling over steep slopes and hills, Ganesh Tok is a quaint Hindu temple which even has a café that offers light bites and refreshing drinks. It is the highest point of Gangtok (6500 ft approx.), hence provides a magnificently beautiful view of the capital city and its neighbours. Tashi View Point This viewpoint lets your eyes encounter the exotic beauty of snowcapped Mt. Kanchenjunga and nearby valleys. Because it away from the bustling city life, it is a remarkable place for peace seekers. Moreover, this point offers one of the most amazing sunrises as well. Ropeway & Banjhakri Falls A place worth visiting, the waterfall is the most famous place among the tourists. With opportunities for adventure activities such as ropeway, boating, etc., Banjhakri Falls is a pleasant site with breathtaking views. Directorate of Handicraft and Handloom Established in 1957; the place aims at preserving the art and craft of the people of Gangtok. In this era where modernisation is the trend, this place keeps you connected with your roots. Handcrafted folding tables, hand painted masques, paintings, shawls, etc., are a few of the things that you get here. Enchey Monastery A 200 years old monastery, Enchey Monastery is one of the most significant monasteries in Sikkim. Here you will be surrounded with sheer positivity and liveliness. The chants of the monks, traditional interiors, and the surreal environment would offer you the needed tranquillity on a day full of hefty travelling. Do Drul Chorten Stupa Built by Trulshik Rinpoche, the head of the Nyingma order of Tibetan Buddhism; the stupa is located on a hillock near the Institute of Tibetology. Before the establishment of this stupa, it was believed that the evil haunted the place. But since the very time this stupa came into existence, no such negativity has been experienced. It is surrounded by 108 prayer wheels, each having mantras inscribed on them. Flower Show Blessed with a vast variety of flora, Gangtok is a paradise for flower lovers and so is the Ridge Park. The colourful flowers and lush green plants over here are a treat to one’s eyes. Institute of Tibetology With the foundation stone being laid by the Dalai Lama, the institute works towards preserving and promoting the Tibetan culture. It showcases the glorious past of the country and its vibrant culture. The library here has one of the most extensive collections of Tibetan literature. It is a wonderful place and thus deserves your visit. Lastly, Gangtok is famous for the great north-eastern delicacies. Do try the food at local restaurants. Now you might be exhausted, so it’s time to return to the hotel and get some peaceful sleep.

DAY 3 : Gangtok (Tsomgo Lake Excursion and Baba Mandir)

Today is the most adventuresome day. Hence, go light on breakfast. Have a light meal that fills your tummy. Do not overeat as today you are going to Tsomgo Lake Excursion and Baba Mandir. The Tsomgo Lake It is located at a distance of 40 km from the city centre. You’ll have a two hours drive along the beautiful Kyongnosla Alpine Sanctuary which is home to the blood pheasant and the red panda. The journey to this destination will be full of alpine trees by your side. Situated at an elevation of 12310 feet, it is a 50 feet deep oval-shaped lake. For most of the year, this beauty stays hidden under the snow cover. Many migratory birds and the Brahmini ducks find their shelter at the Tsomgo Lake. Baba Mandir Near to the lake lies the Baba Mandir, a holy site for the locals as well as the tourists. It is also known as Baba Harbhajan Singh Temple and is located between Nathu La Pass and Jelepla pass. The place holds extreme importance for it is a memorial of a 22-year-old soldier, Baba Harbhajan Singh, the “Hero of Nathula”, who according to a legend died while escorting a group of mules carrying supplies to a remote spot. His spirit is believed to be the protector of every soldier being appointed at the inhospitable Himalayan regions. Optional Tour- Nathu La Pass The pass connects Indian Territory of Sikkim with an autonomous region in China. Since it atop the mountain place, you are required to climb a few steps. This pass was also an offshoot of the ancient Silk Route. You can take this tour on the same day for extra charges. Also, it requires a special permit to enter this area. If not, then after seeking the blessing at Baba Mandir, head back to Mall road for a night spree. Finally, it’s time to be back at your hotel for a relaxing sleep.

DAY 4 : Gangtok – Lachen (About 125 Kms / 6 Hrs)

Wake up. Today is the day when you leave for Lachen! Have your breakfast and resort to your high energy levels as ahead lays a 5-6 hours drive to Chungthang which is 96 kms away from Gangtok. Take a halt at Chungthang and have a great lunch. Resume your journey to Lachen that finds itself 35 kms from Chungthang. Lachen falls into the category of the places that make you fall in love with them at first sight. A town hidden from the outer world, cradling between rocks and sterns, it is a wonderland. The eye soothing snow clad mountains brings you few places such as Gurudongmar Lake, Thangu, Chopta Valley, etc. that are quite interesting and are a must visit. Check in to your hotel, have some evening tea and now stroll across the tiny village and explore the untouched beauty of the place. Do visit the Lepcha Village. Post your evening walk, come back to the hotel in Lachen and take a good night sleep.

DAY 5 : Lachen – Gurudongmar Lake – Chopta Valley Excursion – Lachung

Have your breakfast and head towards the Gurudongmar Lake, i.e. 55 kms from Lachen. It will take around 2.5-3.5 hours for you to reach there. The drive will be worth these travelling hours! Gurudongmar Lake Take pride as Sikkim has the world’s highest lake, the Gurudongmar Lake in its vicinity. The Lake owes its name to the founder of Tibetan Buddhism, Guru Padmasambhava who is also known as Guru Rinpoche. There are claims that the lake has been blessed by the Sikhs spiritual leader, Guru Nanak Dev Ji in the 15th century. Considered sacred by Hindus, Sikhs and the Buddhists, it is located at the height of 17800 ft. After you have catered the magic of this place within you, it’s time to be back at the resort for some lunch. Your next destination is Thangu and last but not the least the Chopta Valley. From here there is a two hours drive back to the hotel. Thangu Valley A two hours drive from Lachen, Thangu is a cosy village decorated with flowers in May-June and covered with heavy snow from October-March. The place forms a perfect getaway for nature lovers. Chopta Valley An extremely famous tourist hotspot in Sikkim; Chopta Valley is renowned for being the majestic valley of flowers. It’s varying hues are worth your time and every penny that you have, and you will spend on this trip. The untouched valley has meandering rivers and adventuresome ways that attract many trekkers. You are assured of scenic landscapes and some awesome desktop pictures. Owing to its stunning creation; this valley is a fascinating place for budding photographers. Your evening is free for visiting the Lachung Monastery if interested. Otherwise, you can rest and make yourself ready for the following day.

DAY 6 : Lachung – Yumthang Excursion – Gangtok

After having your breakfast, drive to Yumthang which is located at an elevated level of 11800 feet. Yumthang is a splendid valley set near to the Lachung Chu River, surrounded by gigantic mountains. During the springtime, the valley erupts with Rhododendrons, many alpine flowers and Primulae. The flora is in full bloom, making it look nothing less than a paradise. The other days except for autumn, the valley finds itself hidden in the snow cover. On your way to the place, you will come across a famous hot spring renowned for its power of curing diseases. Spend a good time witnessing this ethereal beauty and then head back to your hotel for lunch. Post lunch, leave for Gangtok. It will be 4-5 hours drive. On your way make a pit stop at Singhik and Mangan. If the sky is clear and the weather compliments your mood, spend some time consuming the magnificent views of Mount Kanchenjunga, Mount Jopuno, Mount Kabru, Mount Pandim, Mount Simvo, Mount Siniolchu and Mount Khanchendzonga. This drive back to the city of Gangtok will let you encounter the refreshing scenic beauty, apt for some fantastic photography. Back in Gangtok if you reach your hotel in time, you can head towards some shopping centre or Mall Road following which you can have a quiet sleep. This day calls for an optional tour to Zero Point.

DAY 7 : Gangtok – New Jalpaiguri Railway Station(NJP)/Bagdogra Airport(IXB) ( 130km/4 hrs drive)

Today is the day you leave for your home. The trip comes to an end with some enumerable memories. Have your breakfast and start moving towards the Siliguri / New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP) / Bagdogra Airport (IXB) / Tenzing Norgay Bus Stand (Junction). Spend 4-5 hours of your drive in recreating the moments you had lived in those six days. An early start is advisable to avoid any end time rush or trouble. Forwarding Journey.
