Hamilton Harbour Queen

I’ve been enthralled with the Waterfront and the idea of taking a boat trip around the harbour since the very beginning of this blog, over five years ago. I had experienced one cruise and one boat tour so far, but it had been a few years since I hit the water. When Hamilton Harbour Queen invited me out to experience one of their dinner cruises, I jumped at the chance to hit the high seas! (Apologies in advance for any misused nautical jargon in this post.)

ihearthamilton-hamiltonharbourqueen2

The Hamilton Harbour Queen sets sail with lunch, dinner and brunch cruises, as well as special events. They run until Thanksgiving – check out their calendar for all events and to reserve tickets. Lunch and dinner run on Thursdays and there are select dates for brunch and special events, including live music and dance parties. If you miss out this time, be sure to take advantage next season!

ihearthamilton-hamiltonharbourqueen20

I was very excited to experience the dinner cruise, especially knowing the sunset views would be unbelievable! But I also love the idea of brunching on a boat. This just means I’ll have to return. At the helm is Chef Robert To – I first sampled the culinary stylings of Chef Robert a few years back when a Dishcrawl adventure led us to Nino’s Ristorante on King William. The meal on the cruise is served buffet-style and there was a delicious and filling spread. Our dinner consisted of:

  • Coconut shrimp with mango thai dipping sauce (my favourite menu item – I had to go back for more)
  • Vegetable spring rolls
  • Antipasto platter with salami, olives, bocconcini cheese, cantaloupe, roasted red peppers
  • Chef’s rice
  • Lamb skewers with plum sauce
  • Smoked salmon served with fresh bread, horseradish & cream
  • House salad
  • Potato salad

ihearthamilton-hamiltonharbourqueen21

First we set sail and got to roam around the boat and take photos as we launched away from the harbour. It had been a while, and I forgot how much I love the sensation of being on the water. I had “I’m On A Boat” stuck in my head all day leading up to it, and made sure to wear a nautical-inspired outfit. Stripes all the way.

The dinner cruise boards at 6:30pm, and sets out from 7-10pm. Shortly after we roamed around (there’s also a cash bar to imbibe in), dinner was served and we went below deck to our assigned tables. It’s such a neat experience to look out at the water beside you. The sun was beginning to set as we ate, so we hopped up and down a few times to race out and get the most picturesque photos.

ihearthamilton-hamiltonharbourqueen9

Later on as we roamed around the front of the boat, the Captain waved us over, and my first thought was, “Uh oh, I’m being summoned by The Captain!” It was a friendly gesture – he knew Lisa and I would appreciate the photo opportunity inside. But it wasn’t just for show – he asked us if we wanted to try steering the ship. Why not! As he directed me, somehow I instinctively knew where Port and Starboard were. He said it seemed like I’ve done this before. I resisted the urge to shout “TALLY HO!”

We had a nice chat with the Captain, just shooting the breeze, and he shared about his family and we remarked how fast time goes. Wise words from the Captain, himself: “Enjoy it now. Any new adventures, just do it.”

ihearthamilton-hamiltonharbourqueen11

It was a cloudy night with storm clouds in the distance (this I couldn’t resist declaring – “There’s a storm a brewin!!”) and it made for the most gorgeous sky. We watched the sunset get even more brilliant by the second. Once it was dark, the sky was painted the most beautiful deep blue, mauve, grey and purple.

When it was dark, I went with some red wine after dinner and we went back up top to take in the night sky. It was so quiet and peaceful, looking out to the city skyline in the distance. For a minute there, I was up at the front by myself, wine in hand, gazing out onto the water. I pretended for a minute that it was my own ship. Just cruisin’ in style.

ihearthamilton-hamiltonharbourqueen15

As much fun as a boat party is, and I look forward to checking out more events aboard the Hamilton Harbour Queen with a DJ and live bands, I really enjoyed this serene ride around the Waterfront. I could seriously do it every day!

Note: I was invited out as a guest of Hamilton Harbour Queen, but all thoughts about the event are my own.

The Best Hamilton Cruises for 2022 | Hamilton Harbour Queen

wave under water on hamilton harbor queen

We welcome you, lovers of enjoyable cruise vacations in Hamilton! We are a team of Hamilton Harbour Queen enthusiasts, and we can’t live without cruising. Even this text you’re reading right now, we’re posting while on one of the exciting cruises in the Hamilton region. Are we sitting still? That’s not for us! We’re all for active, varied and just plain exciting vacations with raucous parties and unforgettable memories.

Today we’re excited to tell you a thing or two about lake cruises in the city of Hamilton.

Why Is Hamilton So Appealing?

boats in blue sea water tropical lagoon hamilton bermuda summer vacation travelling

Those who favor large-ship cruises won’t be disappointed by a trip to Bermuda. Still, unfortunately, neither the mouth of Hamilton Harbour nor the port facilities in town can accommodate larger ships.

This means that cruise ships based in Hamilton, Bermuda’s capital city (or even at the lovely St. George’s), must now go to King’s Wharf. This trend is expected to continue (also known as the Royal Navy Dockyard).

However, this does not imply that one must avoid visiting Hamilton: the Dockyards are only a short boat trip away from the city.

We can organize trips and parties for any number of participants. For example, most recently one of our boats hosted prize winners presented with a sea tour under a VIP programme.

In any case, it is strongly recommended that you pay for a trip to Hamilton in advance. It is also the location that receives the most tourists due to the abundance of tourist attractions that can be found there, including Bermuda’s most recent addition, the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute .

Walking is a great way to view the majority of the sites. You’ll fall in love with the quaint pastel-colored two-story buildings that line Front Street as you stroll around this gorgeous port town (take a break inside the Par-La-Ville Gardens on Queen Street).

In addition to the breathtaking views from vantage points such as the Anglican Cathedral and Point Pleasant, there is also a “birdcage” that is a must-see. It is located near Queen Street and is where constables in Bermuda shorts regulate traffic. All of this colorful and somewhat bustling town’s history has contributed to making it what it is today.

Hamilton was established in 1790, but it wasn’t until 1815 that it became the capital of Bermuda. The colonists chose Hamilton as the capital because of its central location on the island, which they considered allowed for expansion.

Henry Hamilton, a British Lieutenant Ruler and the island’s governor (1788 – 1794), was honored with the naming of the port city because his family could be traced back to Mary, Queen of Scots.

Perhaps this helps to explain why strong allegiance to England encompasses so much more than simply a love of fish and chips and cricket matches.

Other Noteworthy Aspects of Hamilton

The proximity to the beaches is ideal, especially considering the popularity of golfing here. You will be tempted to purchase magnificent porcelain and cashmere till the cows come home, and the nightlife is not terrible either. However, keep in mind that we compare it to the rest of Bermuda, not Las Vegas or Miami.

Despite this, Hamilton’s Front Street transforms into the epicenter of the island’s party scene every Wednesday evening at six o’clock, when the majority of the cruise ships that visit Bermuda are docked at one of the island’s ports. The street is closed to traffic, and the sidewalks are lined with food concession stands, live music, and plenty of opportunities to dance. You may dance till three in the morning at After Hours, The Deep, or Splash.

Why Should You Travel to Hamilton?

sunset on bermuda islands hamilton harbour

The location’s ease of access to beaches, shopping, restaurants, and historical sites makes spending time here a breeze. Moreover, due to Bermuda’s historical links to the United Kingdom, the island features an abundance of golf courses, clubby restaurants, and places to have afternoon tea.

The fact that Large ships can’t dock in Hamilton may constitute a disadvantage. However, alternatively, you can take a ferry from King’s Wharf for a fee.

Hamilton Cruise Port Facilities

Ships are located just a few short feet away from the shops on Front Street, the Ferry Landing, plenty of restaurants, and more than enough tourist attractions to spend a whole day. So you won’t have to go very far to get whatever you desire.

To know your future, you must first know your history. That’s a great phrase. And before you go on cruise vacations in Hamilton, we recommend reading this article on the  history of Hamilton .

Hamilton cruise port

Region Bahamas - Caribbean - Bermuda

Local Time 2024-05-06 15:32

Port Hamilton cruise ship schedule shows timetable calendars of all arrival and departure dates by month. The port's schedule lists all ships (in links) with cruises going to or leaving from Hamilton, Bermuda. To see the full itineraries (ports of call dates and arrival / departure times) and their lowest rates – just follow the corresponding ship-link.

Hamilton is a port town and the capital of Bermuda - one of the British Overseas Territories. This small town is bermuda's financial centre, main seaport and a major tourist travel destination. Its population (around 1000) ranks it among the world's smallest capital cities (listed as number 233) - the smallest being King Edward Point ( South Georgia Island UK , population under 20) and the largest being . Beijing China (around 21 million).

As a British city, Hamilton's history started in 1790 when the Government of Bermuda set aside a land area of 0,6 km2 (0,23 ml2) for its future seat. In 1793, it was officially incorporated by an Act of Parliament. The city was named after Henry Hamilton (1734-1796) - Governor of Bermuda in the period 1785-1794.

Nowadays, the city's portion that overlooks Hamilton Harbour is predominately a business district, lined up with mainly banks, office buildings and shops. Hamilton has a long maintained building height limit. It states that no buildings may obscure the Cathedral. In the 21st century, buildings have been designed as high as 10-story in this area.

In Hamilton are the registered headquarters of Bacardi (spirits manufacturer), Global Crossing (telecom company), Tokio Millennium Re Ltd (reinsurance company), Genpact (outsourcing company). In the city are also the headquarters of renowned marine shipping companies, including Dockwise, DryShips Inc, Frontline Ltd. Hamilton's low corporate tax rate makes it very attractive as offshore destination for large international companies.

Hamilton Bermuda is a major exporter of financial services (insurance, reinsurance, investment funds) as virtually all of this developed international business takes place within the city's borders. The list of large insurance companies based in Hamilton has around 400 businesses (all internationally owned). The total number of registered in Hamilton international companies exceeds 1500.

Hamilton Bermuda offers its offshore registry (flag-state) for UK-owned ships since 1974. First, P&O Cruises changed all its ships' flags from London to Hamilton. Most Bermuda-flagged cruise ships today are from the fleets of Princess , P&O and Cunard . The main reason for that is the Bermudian flag of convenience allows cruise ship captains to perform onboard weddings. The Bermudian flag is of course British, but Bermuda's registry has different legislation.

For season 2020, the cruise port had 19 ship calls (booked berthings) - up from 13 in 2019.

Hamilton cruise terminal

Smaller cruise ships to Hamilton port (with LOA length under 215 m / 700 ft) are docked in Hamilton Harbour (downtown). The cruise terminal building is at the pier. There is the tourist info center (Visitor Info Booth). Larger cruise ships to Bermuda generally dock at the port of King's Wharf (West End / Royal Naval Dockyard) .

The port of Hamilton is well served by ferries, buses and taxis. At the Visitor Info Booth can be purchased unlimited Day Pass for ferries and buses. Complimentary tourist maps, Bermuda guide and ferry/bus schedules are also provided.

Down by the Bay – A Guide to Hamilton’s West Harbour

Roller Skating, trolley rides, a floating museum, and incredible year-round events.

Find all this and so much more at Hamilton's evolving and fascinating West Harbour, located at the foot of James Street North and spreading out from there in both directions, along the shoreline of Hamilton Harbour.

Here are 12 stops to get you started.

1. All Our Relations

This striking public art installation welcomes visitors to the West Harbour at the foot of James Street North. It's hard to miss the five striking 40-foot panels made of more than seven thousand colourful glass spheres. The piece, designed by local Cree/Metis artist Angela DeMontigny, honours the sacred relationship between trees, animals, water creatures, plants, and Indigenous cultural and spiritual symbols.

2. Pier 8 Outdoor Rink

This unique waterfront rink welcomes roller skaters during warmer months and ice skaters when the temperature dips. Skate rentals of all sizes (including safety equipment) are available year-round. The outdoor rink also hosts popular summer events like weekly salsa dance classes.

3. Theodore Tugboat

4. hmcs haida.

Canada's "most fightingest ship" is a floating, hands-on museum and National Historic Site docked at Pier 9. The WWII Tribal Class Destroyer gives visitors a hands-on, up-close chance to learn what life was like for crew members serving with the Canadian Navy.

5. Copps Pier Park

This waterfront promenade honours the city's unique industrial heritage with its thoughtful design. Enjoy chess tables with umbrellas, a sandy beach area with loungers, and an outdoor stage and event space - all along the water's edge. Look out for the can't-miss bright yellow gantry crane – this area's landmark.

6. Hamilton Waterfront Trolley

This hop-on-hop-off, trackless trolley gives visitors a unique view of Hamilton's shoreline with informative commentary shared along the 12-km ride.

7. Visit Worthy Events

Much-loved annual events at West Harbour include Because Beer , Dusk Dances , Lucky Lion Night Market , and Canada Day celebrations. During the summer months, look out for weekly music, salsa, and rollerskating nights as well as special Pop Up events with movie nights.

8. Selfie Stations

Take your best shot while here with some help from Tourism Hamilton's selfie stations, located along Copps Pier and near Williams Fresh Cafe. Say cheese and tag your post #HamOntViews to be featured.

9. Boat Tours

Want to explore one of North America's hardest working harbours by boat? You've got a few options. Hop aboard the 12 passenger Hamiltonian for a harbour tour narrated by the captain. Or check out Skipperi , the world's first boat-sharing app (think car or bike share for boats) docked at the Harbour West Marina. This friendly outfitter will help you get your license and get you out on the water in no time.

10. Bayfront Park

Locals and visitors flock to this peaceful and beautiful waterfront park. You'll find everything here from picnicking families, dragon boaters, people fishing, cyclists, and year-round events like food night markets, and Canada Day celebrations. The interactive Pirate Life children's attraction is also docked here during the warmer months.

11. Waterfront Eats

  • Williams Fresh Cafe at Pier 8 offers indoor and patio seating and a casual menu with some of the best waterfront views of the city.
  • Next to the outdoor rink is Waterfront Grill with hamburgers and fries.
  • Save room for ice cream from Hamilton Waterfront Scoops .
  • Nearby on James Street North is one of Hamilton's most iconic food stops: Grandad's Donuts .
  • Over at Bayfront Park you'll find classic burger and ice cream fare at Hutch's .

12. Getting Here and Around

Hamilton's West Harbour is a breeze to access, thanks to the nearby West Harbour GO Station , with all-day service in and out of Toronto. It's a 15-minute walk from the station or you can grab a SoBi bike share bike or Bird e-scooter and explore on two wheels. If driving, there's parking at the waterfront.

Welcome to harbour cruises, designed for iphone, iphone screenshots, description.

About the Coal harbour application: The app initially contains easily accessible marine information (weather and tides), ideas for things to do in the Harbour Cruises during your visit, and communication capabilities between boaters and restaurants and other services. About the Coal Harbour Marina: It all began with operating small ferry boats on the Fraser River under the name Harbour Navigation. Seeking to capitalize on the expansion of Vancouver’s downtown and the new popularity of the West End, in the 1930’s Harbour Navigation moved to Coal Harbour and began operating a small fleet of tour and charter vessels. Since then Harbour Cruises has expanded from private and public charter and event operations to more exciting event opportunities aboard, along with our private recreational marina. Our marina at Harbour Cruises can accommodate vessels 50' to 100' vessels. With the marina situated at the mouth of Vancouvers iconic Stanley Park, nestled at the West end of the city, the marina offers breath taking views from our docks, and unbeatable near by boating options. We are honoured to be involved in the magic of boating in BC.

Body found during search for missing passenger on Sydney P&O cruise ship

A passenger has gone overboard and is missing off P&O's Pacific Adventure cruise ship in the waters near Sydney Harbour.

Police have found a man’s body in the waters outside of Sydney Harbour as they search for a cruise ship passenger who went overboard in the early hours of Monday morning and is now missing.

P&O Cruises’ ship Pacific Adventure was scheduled to arrive in Sydney Harbour before 6am (8am NZT), but as of 6.30am, it remains in the coastal waters off Sydney’s east.

Flight tracking data reveals a rescue helicopter has also been searching the area.

At about 10:30am, officers from the Police Marine Area Command located and recovered the body of a man in the waters off Sydney Heads.

Police will now prepare a report for the Coroner and investigate how the incident unfolded.

P&O confirmed to news.com.au that a person had gone missing overboard and a search was under way. It noted employees were attending to the family of the missing passenger in the meantime.

“P&O’s Pacific Adventure is currently undertaking a search and rescue operation off Sydney after a person-overboard alarm was raised at 4am,” a spokesperson for P&O Cruises Australia told the publication.

“Since this time, the ship carrying more than 2600 guests has been on site searching along with other nearby vessels deployed to the area by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority’s Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre.”

“The family of this guest is being cared for by our on-board team while every effort is being made to find them.”

The Pacific Adventure was scheduled to arrive at Sydney’s White Bay Terminal this morning, but its arrival has since been delayed.

A man who planned to pick up Pacific Adventure passengers was told to not “rush” as “the ship’s stopped outside the head and somebody’s gone overboard”, he told 2GB.

Another passenger told the station’s breakfast show host Ben Fordham that a “man-overboard call” woke them up.

“We got woken up with the man-overboard call and from there it’s been all on for a couple of hours now,” he said.

New South Wales police earlier confirmed they were searching for a missing person near Sydney Harbour.

“Police are leading the search of waters off Sydney following reports a person was in the water,” NSW police told news.com.au .

They received a report soon after 4am that “a person had gone overboard” near the waters of Sydney Heads, about 18km from the shore.

“NSW Police Marine Area Command have deployed a number of resources to search for the person and are leading the co-ordination of the water search.”

The Pacific Adventure was making its way back to Sydney from a three-day round-trip cruise to Queensland’s Morton Island.

The ship’s three-day voyage is understood to have been Elvis themed, with the title Tribute to The King.

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

hamilton harbour cruises

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.

River Cruise on Luxurious Radisson Boat

Equipped with ice-breaking technology, these huge fancy yachts are the only river cruisers running all year around. The round trip journey takes two and a half hours and floats past all the big sights like the White House, Novodevichy monastery and the Kremlin. There’s a large open air observation deck up top, while the main body of the ship houses a restaurant with a dance floor for a romantic post dinner dance. For a particularly romantic experience take one of the evening boats and admire the bright lights of the city skyline at night.

The most relaxing and picturesque tour that Moscow can offer: a great way to see the city center and its main attractions. This is a perfect alternative to exploring the city by car, if you only have time to do sightseeing during weekday rush hours.

Your English-speaking guide is eager to share every bit of their knowledge about the surrounding landscape, the architecture and historical details.

We conduct Moscow river tour on Radisson Flotilla boats all year around!  It’s warm inside during winter months, while there’s air conditioning during hot summer days. You may also treat yourself to drinks, lunch or dinner on board (drinks and food are not included in tour price).
