Exclusive Review: Usher’s Paris Residency Electrifies With Elevated Excellence
Usher scored a titan-sized touchdown in Paris ahead of his Super Bowl Halftime Show .
Taking residence at La Seine Musicale in Paris, the R&B icon promised a seismic show the limited 8-night engagement.
That Grape Juice was on hand at the extravaganza – christened ‘Rendez-Vous Á Paris’ – and we’re still catching our breath.
Find out why below…
Slaying the stage with seasoned ease, the Diamond-seller reminded in earnest why he sits amongst the list of music’s most elite performers.
Whether commanding the stage with iconic choreography, gliding on roller skates, or grinding with impressive dancers who oft-defined gravity, Mr. Raymond wowed throughout.
Much like the task he has ahead of him at Halftime, the 8-time GRAMMY winner faced the challenge of condensing a near three-decade career into a time-capped frame.
And while, for many, it may have been an unfathomable ask, Usher – like he has his entire spell in the spotlight – didn’t just meet the demand…he exceeded it.
A pulsating, non-stop party, the show’s opening section kicked off in high-octane fashion with fiery performances of ‘Caught Up’ and ‘’You Don’t Have to Call’ and the hits were unrelenting from there on out.
It must be stressed that the sheer sum of back-to-back classics Usher had in his arsenal and deployed at will was jaw-droppingly impressive. As the night’s conductor-in-chief, he drove the audience to a shared destination of musical bliss.
Peppered in during the escapade were TGJ favorites such as ‘Superstar,’ as well as newer numbers like ‘Come Thru,’ ‘Bad Habits,’ ‘Boyfriend,’ and J Balvin ’s freshly unwrapped ‘Dientes’ – which prominently samples ‘Yeah!’
For some, the latter’s mid-show placement may have been one of the few faux pas given the unspoken rule of ”not coming in before the beat.”
Still, there was no denying the thunderous response that greeted the eventual showing of ‘Yeah!’ – which served as the night’s hands-down highlight.
As has been a constant over the course of the ‘Confessions’ crooner’s illustrious career, Usher also bought ATL with him – spotlighting strip club culture with Ush Bucks dollars and poles aplenty during ‘Bad Girl’ and more broadly across the spectacle at large.
Elsewhere, his cinematic recreation of the ‘U Remind Me’ video nostalgically transported us back to 2001, before quickly reminding of his present-day gravitas come the routine’s climatic handstand finale.
The only thing cleaner than the stage blazer’s choreography was his pristine vocal chops. For, much like the wheels on his skates, he glided with effortless ease between belting, falsettos, and more.
At 44, Usher is performing like the finest wine. A reality the adoring audience was also able to taste up close during the show’s many immersive moments.
With his Parisian adventure, Usher delivered electrifying excellence on an elevated scale.
His stint in Las Vegas has polished what has long been a talent like no other. Avoiding the repetitive rut so many of his peers have fallen victim to, Usher today stands tall as an artist who confidently knows his craft and yet also hasn’t been afraid to evolve it. The result? His most rousing show yet with ‘Rendez-Vous Á Paris.’

How and explain???? Just comment ignorant for no reaso.
I attended the show. Definitely one of the best show I’ve witnessed and even better than the show I’ve seen at the MSG back in 2010. I also love the venue, rather intimate. And excellent acoustics.
The setlist is fire, there are some acapella moments. And even a super small stage within the audience where he performed without any dancers or whatsover.
A few things that bothered me : – No band or dancers introduction, I think that’s the least of respect – I’d rather have back up singers than playback tapes – He’s at a point in his career where parents can attend with kids. This show has got some explicit moments going on. I don’t mind but there should be some sort of warning. – The title of the show is misleading. Rendez-vous in Paris : I thought it would be influenced by French cabaret culture. Like the Moulin Rouge. It was more like “ATL in Paris”.
The show was captured so there should be some sort of release somewhere, maybe along with the album release in February who knows (TV special, streaming platform, DVD/Bluray ?!).

Usher may be teasing a world tour. Just as his Las Vegas residency continues to sell out, the “Superstar” crooner has added new dates to his Paris residency. In addition to his four shows in late September, Ush will now perform for four dates in early October. The announcement follows the news that he has also been added to 2023 Roots Picnic line-up.

Usher’s co-headlining set at The Roots Picnic replaces Diddy , who had to back out due to unforeseen circumstances. Marking his return to the Philly festival in seven years, the King of R&B will be joining the likes of Lauryn Hill , Eve , Ari Lennox , Lucky Daye , Busta Rhymes , Adam Blackstone , The Isley Brothers , and even State Property with their special reunion.
Despite some fans demanding new music instead of new shows, the Diamond-certified sensation is currently pushing his latest record, “ GLU .” Of the single, he explained to VIBE , “More than anything, I think it is striking conversation about R&B, striking conversation about sex, and it’s striking conversation about that connection. And I like that. It feels connected. It feels like people want it.”

Usher Is Bringing His ‘Rendezvous in Paris’ to Theaters With Concert Film
By Larisha Paul

La Seine Musicale in Paris was Usher ‘s musical home for nearly two weeks in 2023 as the musician completed a headlining residency in the City of Love. The career-spanning performance was captured for the concert film Usher: Rendezvous in Paris , set to be released in theaters internationally beginning Sept. 12.
The official trailer for the film is set to the sound of “OMG,” his chart-topping 2010 collabroation with Will.i.am. “City of Lights, I came here to find something drifting on a river I cannot control,” Usher says in the preview. The minute-long clip captures footage from the most extravagant moments of the Paris residency, from flashy costumes to slick choreography, that are heading to the big screen.
The concert film will be screened in 2,000 theaters globally, with around half of those locations being in the United States, through Sept. 15, with tickets going on sale beginning Aug. 6. Directed by Anthony Mandler, the captured performance highlighted some of Usher’s biggest hits, including “Yeah!”, “My Boo”, “Love in This Club” and more. The Paris residency took place during Paris Fashion Week, bringing in a star-studded audience that included Cher, Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union, Pharrell Williams, and more.
Rendezvous in Paris marks the latest concert event to be released in the U.S. and globally by Trafalgar Releasing, in partnership with AMC Theatres Distribution. The distributors were also behind the release of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour and Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé last year.

The man behind the steele dossier is ready to talk, 'black myth: wukong' is a hit. but why is the game so controversial, fact checkers try to shield trump from project 2025’s abortion madness.
AMC Theatres Chairman and CEO Adam Aron added: “For 30 years Usher has captivated and entertained audiences through his music and concerts. Just a few months ago, he drew rave reviews for his stunning performance in front of 129 million people during the Super Bowl Half Time Show. Bringing his unparalleled concert experience to movie theaters for his fans around the world is a perfect fit for AMC Theatres Distribution.”
The theatrical release of Rendezvous in Paris will briefly overlap with Usher’s 2024 Past Present Future tour, which will make stops throughout North America from August through November.

The entire lineup for the show was great. I was kinda disappointed in Usher however. He did more dancing than singing. He had a good set list though. After waiting for over 30 minutes for his appearance though it was just not as good as it could have been.
He was born in Chattanooga Tennessee I went to school with him damn how money changes where u come from guess h3 doesn't remember singing to me at his last day in Chattanooga and he promised to come back hehehehe still one of my favorite singers

Usher Dazzles With a Wild Career-Spanning Journey on Opening Night of His ‘Past Present Future’ Tour: Concert Review

The retrospective, career-spanning nature of Usher’s “Past Present Future” tour is obvious enough from the title. So it was no surprise that the legendary showman brought his trademark moves and formidable battery of hits.
But it’s safe to say the audience didn’t expect him to bring a time machine.

Despite a delayed start due to a neck injury he’d gotten during rehearsals — “Past Present Future” was scheduled to launch in Atlanta last week — Usher brough his A-game to the tour’s actual opening at the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC on Tuesday night. The tour is a sort of victory lap for him, following his successful two-year residency in Las Vegas and, of course, his dazzling Super Bowl Halftime performance earlier this year. It’s also a celebration of a stellar career: While it took Usher a few years to find his footing after his initial success, he and producer Jermaine Dupri found a chemistry in the studio during the production of of 1997’s “My Way” lofted him to enduring superstardom that peaked with his blockbuster 2004 album “Confessions” and goes all the way up to the present with his newest outing, “Coming Home.”
The Usher that took the stage did not seem like a man with a neck injury — more like someone in top physical condition. Clad in a black coat, he walked to his right toward a runway that led to a circular stage that rotated a various moments throughout the night, connecting with a runway on his left to form a U-shape with audience members in a moshpit-like section in the center.
“I just wanna get your attention,” he belted, singing the first few lines of “Hey Daddy (Daddy’s Home).” Moments later, the cube began taking the crowd down memory lane, starting with the “Call Me a Mack” segment and moving into “Can U Get With It.”
The audience then heard the younger version of Usher say “I wanna be the greatest there ever was. I can see it now, DC, in front of 20,000.”
The screen then lit up with the words, “Loading album #2” as the music transitioned into his 1997 hit “U Make Me Wanna.” An elaborate dance routine followed, harking back to the video where Usher and his fellas used chairs as props. Album #3 (“8701”) followed, and just as the crowd was erupting after “U Remind Me” and “U Don’t Have to Call,” a quick transition into album #4 (“Confessions”) followed: “Wait up, we not there yet!,” Usher shouted, but the cube didn’t respond and the music went straight into that album’s “Caught Up.”
“Oh, this is what y’all want? Y’all better sing my shit!” he said as the crowd sang the song for him.
The hook for his smash “Yeah!” began, but just as he started singing the first verse, the cube displayed the word “Malfunction” and the song lurched to an end. Usher left the stage and what sounded like a 1960s version of the song began playing — but it was all part of the show’s theatrics. From that point on he kept the audience guessing about what was coming next.
Surprisingly, the show continued in non-chronological order, as we moved all the way up to 2019 for “Just Don’t Waste My Time.” Usher reemerged ohn roller skates, moving backward with a group of dancers while singing. The evening also included a go-go dance party perfect for DC (maybe custom-made for the city?), with his DJ playing EU’s ‘80s classic “Da Butt,” and a segment where Usher walked through the crowd and let audience members sing into his mic.
The night wound down as the cube looked into the future, playing a short mock interview from the year 2044, where he reflected about how his life turned out after he left the game. It then flipped through the past versions of himself, from a child to a young man, until the Usher from 2004 asked if he could play “Yeah!,” since the audience didn’t get to hear the entire song.
The evening closed with Usher granting that request from his younger self.

On night two, Usher brought out D.C. artists as special guests. Rapper Wale performed “The Matrimony” and “No Hands,” R&B singer Raheem DeVaughn sang “You,” and E.U.’s Sugar Bear led the crowd through the go-go hit “Da’ Butt.”
The Past Present Future tour continues with two shows at Baltimore’s CFG Bank Arena on Aug. 23 and 24 before heading to major cities like Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York. The tour will circle back to Atlanta in December for the rescheduled performances on Dec. 9, 10, and 12 at State Farm Arena, giving fans another opportunity to see Usher live.
Following the U.S. leg, Usher will take the tour to Europe, starting with an eight-night residency at London’s O2 Arena on Mar. 29, 2025. The European leg includes performances in Paris, Amsterdam, and Berlin.
The tour follows Usher’s standout performance at the Super Bowl LVIII halftime show in February, where he was joined by artists like Alicia Keys, H.E.R., and Ludacris.
Adding to the Usher-mania, his concert film, USHER: RENDEZVOUS IN PARIS , is also set to be screened in about 2,000 theaters worldwide from Sept. 12 to 15, offering fans an immersive look at the “U Got It Bad” singer’s recent work.
Earlier this month, Usher issued a statement to social media apologizing to fans for delaying the tour.
He continued, “You’re still going to get a bit of the past, some of the present and a unique look into the future on the rescheduled date but you’ll also be getting 100% of me. The last thing I want to ever do is disappoint you, the fans who have been eagerly waiting for this tour to start.”
“However, I wouldn’t be the entertainer that I am if I can’t physically give you my best. My team will be sharing news of the rescheduled date soon. I can’t wait to celebrate this legacy with you.”

UPDATED with two more shows postponed: Usher revealed Thursday that a neck injury suffered earlier this week during rehearsals for the start of his “Past, Present, Future” world tour is the reason he had to postpone its opening night Wednesday in his hometown of Atlanta.
He also said today that he has to reschedule Friday and Saturday’s show’s at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena as he continues to heal. The new dates are set for December 9-10 and December 12.

He added that “the good news” is doctors told him with “appropriate rest and treatment” he will be able to jump back into the tour schedule beginning Tuesday in Washington, D.C.
PREVIOUSLY, August 14 PM: Usher, who was scheduled to kick off his Past, Present, Future world tour on Monday night in his hometown of Atlanta, has postponed the concert to a later date, saying he needed to give his “body a second to rest and heal.”
For now, his other two Atlanta shows are still scheduled to take place Friday and Saturday at State Farm Arena before the tour moves on to Washington, D.C. The North American leg is set to run through November 30 before the tour resumes in the UK and Europe at the end of March.
Usher didn’t explain why he needed to “rest and heal,” but told fans less than 12 hours out from showtime that he had to reschedule.
“For my 30-plus year career, 100% of my blood, sweat and tears has gone to putting on the best performance and creating a memorable experience for my fans,” he wrote. “I have every intention of doing that for this tour as well which is why I have to postpone tonight’s show… .
“The last thing I want to ever do is disappoint you, the fans who have been eagerly waiting for this tour to start. However, I wouldn’t be the entertainer that I am if I can’t physically give you my best.”
Upcoming, the concert film Usher: Rendezvous in Paris is scheduled to hit theaters September 12 for a limited four-day weekend global run at 2,000 cinemas worldwide (1,000 theaters in the U.S.).

Usher Kick Starts His Long-Awaited Past Present Future Tour With Its First Stop In Washington, D.C
U sher finally kicked off his music tour, which was long-awaited by his die-hard followers. It is called the Past Present Future tour, and fans have been waiting for it for a long time, as previously the concert got delayed after the singer suffered a neck injury. However, now that everything seems fine to perform, Usher took to the stage in Washington, DC.
The Yeah! singer dazzled everyone as he delivered a mind-blowing set on August 20 and August 21.
As he took the stage in Washington, DC, the eight-time Grammy winner was seen delivering a two-hour set. He performed his most loved songs, such as Lovers and Friends, U Don’t Have To Call, Confessions, and, of course, Yeah!
However, those were not just the only ones that impressed the audience present for the live performance of Usher. The Love In This Club artist also performed his songs from the recently released album Coming Home.
While the first day of the concert went fabulously, the August 21 performance by the singer was the one to remember. Usher had invited some really talented musicians, who also happened to be D.C. natives.
These artists were Raheem DeVaughn, Wale, as well as E.U.’s Sugar Bear. While DeVaughn performed the track You, Wale was seen delivering a set that consisted of The Matrimony and No Hands. Talking about Sugar Bear, the artist performed Da’ Butt.
Next up, Usher will be seen performing in Baltimore on August 23 and 24. The concert will take place at the CFG Bank Arena. His North American leg tour will end in Atlanta in December with three-night performances, after which he will begin with his European leg starting on March 29 in London's The O2 Arena.
Then the U Got It Bad artist will head to Paris, Amsterdam, and Berlin, and then return to London again, ending his tour in the month of May.
At the beginning of this month, it was announced that he would be postponing his first three shows after suffering from a neck injury following the rehearsals.

Usher is finally hitting the road after a brief delay!
The R&B legend, 45, kicked off his long-awaited Past Present Future Tour with two sold-out shows at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, Aug. 20, and Wednesday, Aug. 21.
Earlier this month, Usher said he would be postponing the first three shows of his highly anticipated tour due to a neck injury he suffered during rehearsals. Usher announced he would postpone the first date in Atlanta, on Aug. 14. The next day, he said he had to postpone two more shows .
"My hope was that with physical therapy and medical treatment, I would be able to overcome the injury and be ready for opening night," he explained in his Aug. 15 statement. "Unfortunately, the injury has not healed yet, and my doctors have instructed me not to perform any shows this week."
The previous dates have already been rescheduled for Dec. 9, Dec. 10 and Dec. 12 .

During the eight-time Grammy winner’s two-hour set in D.C., he performed “U Don’t Have To Call,” “Confessions,” “Yeah!” and “Lovers and Friends.” He also serenaded the crowd with songs from his ninth album, Coming Home .
At the Aug. 21 show, the “Burn” singer brought out D.C. native musicians Wale, Raheem DeVaughn and E.U.’s Sugar Bear. Wale performed “The Matrimony” and “No Hands,” while DeVaughn serenaded the crowd with “You,” and Sugar Bear sang “Da’ Butt.”
Usher's next tour stop is Baltimore, where he will perform at the CFG Bank Arena on Aug. 23 and 24. The North American leg of the tour finishes up with the three-night stand in Atlanta in December.
The European portion of the Past Present Future tour kicks off on March 29 at London's The O2 Arena. After an eight-night stand there, he will perform in Paris, Amsterdam and Berlin before returning to London to end the tour in May.
The musician announced he would go on the career-spanning tour in December 2023, just weeks after ending his My Way: The Las Vegas Residency run.
In February, he released his ninth studio album, Coming Home , and performed at the Super Bowl LVIII halftime show . During the show, he brought out musical guests Alicia Keys , H.E.R. , Jermaine Dupri , will.i.am , Lil Jon and Ludacris to join him on stage at the NFL championship game in Las Vegas.
Usher also has a concert film, USHER: RENDEZVOUS IN PARIS , hitting roughly 2,000 theaters worldwide between Thursday, Sept. 12, and Sunday, Sept. 15.

The global icon delivered a rousing two-hour show at Capital One Arena.

It was a packed house on night one of Usher’s Past Present Future Tour at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday (Aug. 20).
At 8:55 p.m., the lights dimmed, and the eager crowd roared with glee as they anticipated the man of the hour.
A massive LED cube illuminated the stage, displaying imagery of the R&B superstar as a robotic voice prepared the audience to be immersed in Usher’s evolving world, perfected over the last three decades.
“Let us travel through the dimensions of past, present and future. Prepare for an intimate ride,” the artificial voice blared through the speakers.
Shortly after, Usher ascended from the stage, wearing a black cloak, matching fedora, and boots. Screams intensified as he smoothly walked the runway to rhythmic snaps in a Michael Jackson-like manner.
Usher opened his nearly two-hour set with “ Coming Home ,” the title track of his ninth album, which he released ahead of his record-breaking Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show performance in February. Dancers soon joined him for a more familiar welcoming, “Hey Daddy (Daddy’s Home).”
“How y’all feeling tonight,” Usher asked fans while he removed his trench coach to unveil his sparkling all-black suit before performing “BIG,” another track from Coming Home .
After warming up the crowd, it was time to revisit Usher’s early beginnings. The 45-year-old entertainer stood on stage to watch a video montage of him as a kid with a big vision for himself. It was chilling to see Usher present in the moment, observing his younger self speak his dreams into existence.
After the quick video, he took us to 1993, when he released his first single, “Call Me a Mack,” from the Poetic Justice soundtrack. While he didn’t sing along, he did perform some choreography in front of the large screen with the younger version of himself.
His first of many outfit changes of the night was during the pitstop to 1994, during which his songs “Think of You” and “Can U Get Wit It” from his self-titled debut album played.
Usher reappeared on stage wearing a black leather trench coat with PPF (Past Present Future) spray painted on the side, a mesh shirt, black pants, and a cane. He was dressed as if he were pulled right out of his “ My Way ” music video, the title track to his 1997 breakout album. He stayed committed to his “ U Make Me Wanna… ” video, which had a similar stage design to the Bille Woodruff -directed visual and incorporated his iconic chair choreography.
Paying homage to album three, 8701 , Usher breezed through his Grammy-winning hits “U Remind Me” and “U Don’t Have to Call” before teasing his Confessions era with “Caught Up” and a glimpse of “Yeah!” which he later revisited in the show.
While performing “Caught Up,” the screen turned into a word collage with old headlines and pull quotes about Usher, including from his previous relationship with Chilli of TLC.
The Present segment of the show felt like a big party. He turned the stage into a roller skating rink, a la Usher’s Skate Park, gliding like a hot knife through butter as he performed cuts like “ Don’t Waste My Time ,” “Love in This Club” and “Say What U Want.”
After changing out of his skates and outfits, Usher kept the party going with more bangers like “New Flame,” “Party,” and “Margiela.” He made it rain with Ushbucks while he performed the Nicki Minaj-featured “Little Freak” as a dancer twirled on a pole for a small crowd on stage.
Taking a break from the party vibe, Usher serenaded the audience with smooth jams like “Nice & Slow,” “U Got It Bad,” “Climax,” “Burn,” and “Confessions” parts one and two. He delivered a stirring vocal performance as theatrical dancers brought the lyrics to life.
About an hour into the show, we were brought to Usher’s future, where he imagined his life in 2044. Before he returned on stage, a futuristic interview of him at age 66 played on the screen, in which he reflected on his career and his life.
In the early part of the Future segment, Usher electrified the venue with his EDM gems, including “Euphoria,” “OMG,” “DJ Got Us Falling in Love,” and “Without You.” For a moment, it felt like we were all at a rave party, with the crowd on their feet, fist-pumping to the electronic grooves.
Throughout the night, Usher kept everyone at the edge of their seats with his rather unpredictable setlist. It was quite apparent that he wasn’t necessarily going in chronological order within the past, present, or future.
“Y’all don’t mind if I R&B this thing all the way the f**k up?” Usher, wearing a cherry red fur coat, asked when he returned to join his band and background vocalists at the top of the stage.
He went back to his diamond-selling album Confessions to serenade the crowd with his fan-favorite deep cut “Superstar.” He took his time getting into the ballad, working the stage in all directions to allow fans on different sides of the venue to sing the opening falsetto in a call-and-response manner.
After scorching the stage with the Dre & Vidal-produced cut, Usher walked through the crowd, giving a few fans a chance to sing parts of “There Goes My Baby” in the mic as he made his way to the back.
Once he arrived at the B-stage, he turned the venue into Club Usher with a medley of “I Need a Girl,” “ My Boo ” and his verse on Trey Songz’s “Invented Sex (Remix).” He also showed special love to D.C. by dancing along to go-go band E.U.’s 1988 hit “Da Butt” and sang along to his feature on Wale’s “The Matrimony.”
In the latter portion of the show, he performed more songs from Confessions (“Throwback,” “Seduction,” and “Bad Girl”), revisited Coming Home (“ Ruin ” and “ Good Good ”), as well as his 2019 joint project with Zaytoven, A (“ Peace Sign ”). Following his final costume change, Usher returned to 2004 to close out the show with his No. 1 hit, “Yeah!”
When Usher postponed the start of his Past Present Future Tour in Atlanta due to a neck injury at rehearsals, he said in a statement: “The last thing I want to ever do is disappoint you, the fans who have been early waiting for this tour to start. However, I wouldn’t be the entertainer that I am if I can’t physically give you my best.”
Usher’s first show of his Past Present Future Tour was yet another instance of his commitment to excellence. It was a magical night that celebrated his legacy in the most beautiful, euphoric way. He enchanted fans with a masterful display of showmanship — flawless live vocals, polished choreography, spectacular stage design, quick costume changes, and more. Knowing Usher, each show on the tour is bound to get even better because when he performs, he pours his heart and soul into it.
Usher’s approaching tour stops include multiple nights in Baltimore, Boston, Philadelphia, and Toronto, to name a few.
