Before You Go
- To make it easier to replace your passport if it’s lost or stolen, in addition to your passport, take a photocopy of your passport information page (keeping it separate from your actual passport).
- Carry only a limited amount of cash, just enough for gratuities and incidental purchases. Major credit cards are widely accepted and can be replaced if lost or stolen.
- Always lock your hotel room door (including patio and balcony door on any level of the building) and use the peephole before opening the door.
- Store your valuables (such as cash, credit cards and airline tickets) in the hotel’s in-room safe or front desk safety deposit box.
- If you must carry valuables on your person, do so in a pouch or money belt concealed under your clothing. Purses and backpacks can be easy targets for thieves.
- For complete and current safety and security information, including travelers' tips, public announcements, travel advisories and more, please visit the website of the U.S. Department of State at www.travel.state.gov.

Sargassum/Seaweed Advisory
Sargassum is a free-floating seaweed that is especially prolific in the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico. While beneficial to ocean life, these large free-floating seaweed mats often wash up on beaches. The amount of seaweed on the beaches fluctuates based on the time of year and ocean currents. While resorts do their best to maintain the beaches for their guests, you may experience some inconvenience during your stay.

Day 1 : Fly to Honolulu
Arrive in Oahu and receive a traditional lei greeting before checking in to our beautiful Waikiki Beach hotel for a four-night stay.
Day 2 : Pearl Harbor
After a delicious included breakfast, we embark on a city tour of Honolulu including the most moving site on Oahu, Pearl Harbor National Memorial. At the visitor center, we view the galleries and exhibits that recall December 7, 1941, the day that catapulted the U.S. into World War II. Enjoy a documentary film and a Navy launch out to the USS Arizona Memorial to observe the sunken battleship. This afternoon, mingle with new friends over a Holiday Vacations Welcome Lunch in Honolulu. We continue our city tour, bringing us past the volcanic-shaped Hawaiian State Capitol building and Iolani Palace, the only palace in the U.S. once inhabited by a reigning monarch. We also visit the Punchbowl, an extinct volcano and home of the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. *Tickets to the USS Arizona Memorial are subject to availability through National Park Service and confirmed the day prior.
Day 3 : Oahu
Today is yours for individual pursuits! Soak up the sunshine on famous Waikiki Beach, delight your taste buds with a regional food tour, explore the ocean with a snorkeling excursion, or embark on a scenic hike at Diamond Head. After working up an appetite, enjoy an included dinner at the resort tonight.
Day 4 : Polynesian Cultural Center
This morning, we enjoy a scenic drive along Oahu’s North Shore and make a stop at Dole Pineapple Visitor Center. We then continue our journey to the Polynesian Cultural Center where we have lunch and learn about the ancient cultures of six Pacific Island nations. Afterward, we return to our hotel and have the evening at leisure.
Day 5 : Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

Pacific Islands Attractions & Landmarks Guide
If Tahiti and Bora Bora represent the greatest tropical escape in the rest of the world's imaginations, consider really getting away from it all in the Marquesas, also part of French Polynesia but among the most remote isles on earth. You can explore all of the region by small ship cruises.
Fiji -- with its mix of native Melanesians and East Indians and its history of cannibalism (which ended in the mid-19th century) -- is lush and exotic. Easter Island -- a Polynesian outpost that is so far east it's part of Chile in South America -- is home to the famous moai, huge, heavy statues that were quarried miles from their final resting places, puzzling archaeologists and anthropologists since their initial discovery.
Farther Afield
The Micronesian islands of Palau, Yap, Kosrae, and Ponape offer exceptional diving and snorkeling in the western Pacific waters, and are known for the wreckages of World War II planes to explore. Their lands are also lush and beautiful, and Yap continues its longtime tradition of trading in currency carved from giant stones.
The Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, and Papua New Guinea are all islands waiting for adventurous travelers to come their way.

Best time to visit.
Simply put, there’s no bad time to visit the Galapagos Islands. Good weather is mostly found year round, as are the animals. This being said, November through to June is the preferred time to visit, with clearer skies, calmer seas and decreased winds. Of these, March and April have less rain, while November and December are the warmest. July to November is the best time for divers as whale sharks can often be spotted at Wolf and Darwin islands.

Culture and customs
Ever since Charles Darwin brought attention to the giant tortoises, sea lions, hammerhead sharks and other spectacular wildlife of the Galapagos Islands, people have been fascinated by this archipelago of volcanic islands. Originally a pirate hideout, people started migrating to the islands from Ecuador after it became part of the country in 1832. Of the 13 major islands and scores of smaller islands and islets that make up the Galapagos, only five of them are inhabited – about 26,000 residents spread over the islands of Isabela, Santa Cruz, Floreana, Baltra and San Cristobal. The wildlife rules the rest of the islands, which are carefully managed to help protect the precious environment.
Geography and environment
Located in the Pacific Ocean about 600 miles off the coast of Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands are a volcanic archipelago of 13 major islands, six smaller islands and more than 100 islets. Some are sparsely vegetated with largely mountainous interiors, whereas others are comparatively lush with white-sand beaches. Many of the islands are in a state of flux, as continual volcanic eruptions cause them to erode and expand.
The largest island, Isabela, makes up half the land area of the Galapagos and is characterized by three active volcanos, a blue lagoon, clear lakes filled with flamingos and beaches where iguanas and sea lions roam. Santa Cruz is the second largest island with giant tortoises, marine iguanas and Galapagos crabs residing in Tortuga Bay. The oldest and most remote island, Espanola (also called Hood), boasts boobies, albatrosses and many species of birds and lizards not found anywhere else in the world.
Top wildlife to spot
1. Sea Lions
Whether you're loafing about on the beach or snorkeling offshore, you’ll be hard-pressed not to come face-to-face with these frolicsome critters at some stage. Playful, plentiful, and pretty much fearless, you’re supposed to keep a 2-meter distance from these guys at all times - though their insatiable curiosity can make this hard.
2. Marine Iguanas
The only lizards in the world that can live and forage in the ocean, the marine iguana is found solely in the Galapagos. Fierce and ferocious though these Godzilla-like reptiles may appear (Darwin called them ‘Imps of Darkness’), it’s all bluff – they only feed on algae. And with lung capacities permitting up to half an hour of underwater foraging, you’re just as likely find them gorging on the islands’ surrounding seabeds as scampering about the craggy rocks they inhabit.
3. Hammerhead Sharks
Boasting one of the animal kingdom’s most puzzling physiologies, hammerhead sharks are found in abundance off Wolf, Bartolome, Santa Cruz and Darwin islands. Unlike most sharks, they will often merge into schools of over 100 during the day - making for some incredible and surreal photo opportunities. And with no known human fatalities and a wealth of choice natural prey on offer, diving amongst them isn’t as scary or dangerous as one might think.
Darwin finches gave rise to one of the most game-changing theories of all time. By studying the differences between finches from different islands, Darwin hypothesized that the birds’ adaptations to their habitats resulted in their mutation into different species: his Theory of Evolution.
5. Giant Tortoises
No trip to the islands is complete without a visit to its most famous residents. Weighing up to 882 pounds, regularly living for more than 100 years, and able to go for up to 1 year without food, these gentle and slow-moving monsters are an intriguing and humbling spectacle to observe.
6. Sea Turtles
Snorkeling alongside these majestic creatures of the deep (or more accurately, the shallows) is one of those rare, life-affirming moments that makes a trip to the Galapagos immediately worthwhile. Keep your eyes peeled on the beaches for turtle nests too - the Galapagos is a hotbed of activity for these critters.
7. Blue-Footed Boobies
Despite essentially looking like handsome seagulls with painted toenails, blue-footed boobies, when caught hunting, serve up one of the Galapagos' most thrilling spectacles. Diving from heights of up to 100ft, groups of boobies hit the water at speeds up around 60km per hour. They usually let out a shrill whistle before letting rip, which means you'll usually have warning enough to get your camera out too. How considerate.
8. Flightless Cormorants
Granted, a flightless cormorant spotted on land isn't one of the most invigorating sights you'll see during your time here. But wait until you don your snorkel gear and spot one weaving elegantly through the water - the flightless cormorant will likely become one of your favorite discoveries in the Galapagos Islands for this reason alone.
9. Frigatebird
With its striking wingspan and deeply-forked tail, the magnificent frigate bird is easily one of the most impressive birds in the skies of the Galapagos archipelago. But they don't have such a swell reputation amongst other birds. Whilst they hunt fish on the oceans surface, they also force their winged brethren to regurgitate their food, which then they eat - a process known as kleptoparasitism. Still, they look gorgeous – particularly the males, with their bright-red chin sac.

For more detailed advice, we recommend visiting Equaldex or ILGA before you travel.
What to drink in the Galapagos Islands
Quench your thirst after a glorious day spent exploring the Galapagos by sipping on a glass of canelazo, horchata tea, or freshly made fruit juice.
During your cruise around the islands, it makes sense to try as many traditional Ecuadorian drinks as you can, especially since there are heaps to choose from.

Beach & Islands Escapes Vacations
There is one sun, seven oceans and a large number of tropical island paradises which when combined provide a perfect beach vacation. Goway has a large selection of suggestions for your island vacation.
Close to home, it is possible that you have either experienced or considered a beach vacation in the Caribbean or Hawaii. However, these two areas of the world do not have exclusive secluded, unspoiled white sandy beaches and enticing clear blue waters. There are many other places in the world that offer the exact same attractions plus something extra such as a different culture and/or a scenically exotic background. Imagine coral reefs and turquoise coloured lagoons and the sun setting on a perfect day.
Asia’s tropical paradises include islands such as Bali, the Maldives, Phuket in Thailand, Boracay in the Philippines and others. Africa has the Seychelles, Mauritius, Zanzibar and perhaps even more exotic is the Bazaruto Archipelago off the coast of Mozambique. Australia, being a land of sunshine, offers Lizard Island and Hayman Island on the Great Barrier Reef. The Pacific Ocean has such gems as Fiji, Tahiti and the Cook Islands as well as Tonga and Samoa.
For accommodation, there is a choice of high-rise hotels with modern facilities, low-rise beachfront resort hotels, and cottage colonies. You could even have your own villa suspended above the ocean with a glass floor to view tropical fish swimming. Where? The Maldives. All the usual facilities and recreational pastimes are mostly available whether it is water sports such as snorkeling or scuba diving or tennis or golf. Or you can take an excursion to a nearby attraction of interest of which there are many.
Come and be seduced by Goway’s Island Resorts. The choice might not be that easy!

Temperatures in Hawaii range between lower 80’s in the fall/winter months and higher 80’s in the summer months (May-Sep). Hawaii has a tropical climate, but the temperature can vary depending on altitude and the surroundings. The islands receive most of its rainfall from the trade winds on the north and east sides of each island. The coastal areas tend to be drier, especially the south and west sides. The rainy season tends to be during the winter months of October to April. The overnight temperature rarely drops below 65 degrees at the lower elevations. On this tour, you may experience lower temperatures at the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park (in the 60s during the daytime).
You can find more on the weather in Hawaii here .
We recommend bringing a light jacket or sweater for the buses or flights. As well, please consider the range of temperature and climates you may encounter in Hawaii and pack clothing you can be comfortable in for each of them. Wearing layers allows you to be comfortable on the bus and while sightseeing.
For more information, check out our What To Pack For Your Hawaiian Vacation article.

Duration: Approx. 9 Hours (Full Day)
Discover Oahu’s scenic natural beauty on this educational and fun all-day tour of the island’s most prized attractions. This tour features the Halona Blowhole, the dramatic Nuuanu Pali Lookout and Byodo-In Temple. You’ll finish the day driving past the North Shore Beaches and with stops in Haleiwa Town and at the Dole Plantation Country Store.
- Fully narrated motor coach tour
- Nuuanu Pali Lookout was the site of the Battle of Nuuanu where in 1795 King Kamehameha I won the struggle that finally united Oahu under his rule. Now, this historic site offers some of the best panoramic views of the Windward Coast of the island.
- Stop at Byodo-In Temple which is replica of an iconic temple in Japan. With the backdrop of the Koolau Mountain Range, this is a breathtaking site to see.
- Other stops are at Halona Blowhole, Tropical Farms (where you can sample flavored macadamia nuts and coffee), Haleiwa Town, and Dole Plantation Country Store where you can try their famous Dole Soft Serve.
Note: This bus tour is from approximately 7:00 AM until 4:00 PM and therefore, it conflicts with the Polynesian Cultural Center optional tour. Please select only one of these optional excursions. There will be free time to purchase lunch at Haleiwa Town. This add-on is only available for 2024 tours.

Rapa Nui Experience (4Days/3Nights)
The tour was excellent thanks to the local provider - MAHAKITOUR and the guide Daniela. She really knows the history of the Rapa Nui people. Courtesy of Wakaya Club and Spa
There’s nothing quite like being welcomed by a beautiful choir of smiling faces, clapping and singing for your arrival, enveloping you in a traditional song that overflows with warmth and hospitality. This is no token gesture; it’s the moment you "become a life member of the Wakaya Club,” Tiko, chief and mentor to Wakaya Club & Spa staff and the entire island community, told us.
As an extension of Wakaya Club's hospitality, we were invited to the private island’s small village, which is specifically built for Wakaya employees and their families. At the community school, the children, like their parents, showered us in song and dance. Their energy was so infectious that it didn't take long before we were following their lead, twirling and side-stepping too.
Wakaya Club & Spa has been a sought-after luxury resort destination for many years, with a string of high-profile visitors (The Rolling Stones, Tom Cruise, Steph Curry) rocking up for exclusive access to infinity pool villas, "in-house" spas, and lush acres of private land. In contrast, the most alluring aspect for me was simple: Being embraced by happy, friendly, and passionate people. The island sustains flourishing families, the school educates its children, and the church choir unites the whole community in a special bond that can be felt throughout the Wakaya organization.
Wakaya Club and Spa
- Plenty of outdoor activities where guests can use kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, and snorkeling equipment.
- A stunning infinity-edge pool that looks out over the crystal-clear ocean and hammocks slung beneath the shade of palm trees — an oasis for reading or turtle spotting.
- Bespoke experiences and event coordination, including weddings, honeymoons, creative think tanks, entire island buy-outs, and a yacht charter experience.
- A commitment to upholding and inspiring environmental protection of both the land and ocean.
Our bure (Fijian for villa) was one of 10 luxury villas lining the waterfront. Here and throughout the properties, tropical elegance is achieved with cathedral ceilings, indigenous Yaka timber flooring, and sweeping verandas. Tradition meets contemporary luxury as floor-to-ceiling glass doors span the entire length of the villa, opening up to a breathtaking view of the palm tree–lined, pristine sandy beach and the expansive green lawn. Each bure offers 1,650 square feet of privacy, enveloped by beautiful landscaping which runs along each lawn all the way to the beach.
Inside is a spacious living area with warm, natural tones running throughout. In every room the furniture is positioned to draw your attention out towards the view. In the master suite, a king-size canopy bed takes center stage and the gauzy drapes are carefully set back, framing the view of your own tropical paradise. Floor-to-ceiling glass walls are a recurring theme throughout and continue into a bathroom that allows nature to completely flow through it. This sanctuary brings outdoor bathing to you. An open-air lava rock shower bathed in natural light and a garden-facing tub invites a sanctum for relaxation.
The resort's top suites come in the form of sprawling hilltop estates, ranging from $8,000 to 11,000 USD per night. Vale’O , meaning "House in the Clouds," and Sega Na Leqa , meaning "No Worries," both offer stunning panoramic ocean views, a wealth of entertainment possibilities, and a dedicated household staff. A world-class retreat and the resort's newest addition, Sega Na Leqa features a 125-foot infinity swimming pool, private guest house, and state-of-the-art luxury living spaces.

The island cooks what the island grows. Wakaya’s Authentic Fijian Culinary Program is married beautifully with the resort's pledge to sustainability. With ecological farming principles applied, over 60% of the produce landing on your plate is locally sourced from the on-site organic farm.
Eating at the flagship restaurant, The P a lm Grove, guests can expect a curated menu of Indian, Mediterranean, and Fijian flavors. From island-raised venison to locally sourced lobster, maitre d’ Heinrik does an impeccable job keeping guests satisfied, but remember to save space for the coconut bread. Pastry chef Kelera Cegu makes this buttery, sweet loaf as an accompaniment to breakfast. Lethally delicious, it became our favorite thing to smuggle from the table and snack on throughout the day. You can also enjoy meals at the beach house, Baravi Lai Lai, dine poolside, or take advantage of a beach cookout.
Experiences and Amenities
Taking care of your every need comes naturally in Fijian hospitality. From dietary requirements to drink preferences to activities , whatever you desire is just one request away. Of course, the use of the gym, tennis courts, game room, and golf course are unlimited. However, guests may also opt to plan cultural activities including guided historical hikes, traditional weaving, or a Fijian lovo special occasion feast ahead of time.
A highlight during our stay was being chauffeured to the southeastern side of the island for a secluded picnic. If you’ve ever imagined what the ultimate private beach dining experience would look like, this is it. Emerging through dense tropical forest, we arrived at Tuburua Beach. Distressed driftwood and seashells fringed the jungle, with fallen coconuts at our feet and frangipani flowers in my hair — truly romantic. Joey, our chauffeur, set out a woven beach rug, hammock, and plush cushions before leaving us on our own to bathe in the afternoon serenity. Our luxury lunch hamper of goodies included lobster pasta and gooey chocolate brownies.
At the start of our stay, we were invited to participate in a local custom known as the kava welcoming ceremony. A ritual to celebrate connection, we were offered a plant-based drink (kava) served in a communal bowl. Throughout the centuries, this tradition has been about unity, and to this day, locals still sip it to honor special occasions such as weddings. As we took our seats, the chief, Tiko, began by relaying the rules for the sacred ritual. In turn, we were instructed to “clap, pick up the bowl, and drink.” A tribe leader dressed in ceremonial attire kneeled before me. I was mesmerized and distracted all at once, and completely forgot what I needed to do. “Pick up the bowl!” I could barely see his lips move, but I realized he was urging me to play my part. Hoping to hide the blush of embarrassment, I quickly gulped the herbal drink and thanked my lucky stars for the darkness.
The next day we would continue to learn about the island's heritage while hiking the historic Chieftain's Leap. Our guide was Sonny, my tribal instructor from the previous night, and we quickly found ourselves chatting like old friends before he delved into the history and camaraderie that has shaped the island’s ethos. According to Sonny, the Island was taken at the hands of the Ovalau warriors in about 300 B.C. To avoid certain death, the Wakayan village chief jumped off a cliff at Double Bay. Out of loyalty, the villagers followed him. This is the Island's legacy, he told us. To this day, support, trust, and mentorship keep the community bonds tight.
My masseuse welcomed me into Breeze , the onsite spa, and immediately guided me to a bowl of warm water infused with essential oils and flower extracts. Here, relaxation began with a nourishing foot scrub. Though there’s a myriad of treatments to choose from, I opted for the hot stone massage to ease tight muscles. Guests can further indulge with a dip in the body-temperature serenity pool followed by lazing on the lanai , an open-air veranda. The spa is located on the oceanfront, so expect to hear the calming sounds of waves in your moments of stillness.
The Wakaya Marine Reserve is home to 16,000 square kilometers of sea life. From snorkeling alone, guests can expect front-row seats to a menagerie of coral fish, Hawksbill turtles, green back turtles, and hammerhead sharks. It's one of the best locations for regularly spotting manta rays, too.
Wakaya is a resort that prides itself on conservation excellence, and Luke Gordon of The Manta Trust is part of a collective effort to help sustain and nurture the local environment. Spending time with Gordon and his team, we were treated to a snorkeling spectacle. This is a PADI five-star gold palm dive resort, so diving adventures are always accessible. We, on the other hand, enjoyed the marine life from a shallower depth. Schools of vividly colored fish were bountiful around us; we even saw reef sharks and an octopus swim through open water before camouflaging into the rock.
To keep these experiences vibrant and the animals healthy, Wakaya’s ecologists apply the latest technology and scientific research to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome numerous species. With Gordon, who is also the resort's marine biologist, guests can get involved in some of these initiatives. We participated in coral farming, and Gordon demonstrated how some of the most endangered reef plants are being restored.
The Location
The Wakaya Club & Spa is a luxury retreat located north east of Viti Levu in the Ovalu group of islands. Recognized as an official marine reserve, it is known for hosting some of the world's best near-shore diving. Approximately five miles in length, this 2,200-acre island is a peaceful hideaway with ancient banyan trees, chalky white beaches, and wild deer. We visited during August and were met with a temperate climate ranging from the high 70s to low 80s, with a balmy breeze — and, I’m happy to say, warm waters.
When you stay at Wakaya, you buy into exclusivity. You’ll witness Fijian elders shaping communities, scientists nurturing both land and sea, and wildlife encounters that you just can't get in most parts of the world. This type of intimacy and connection starts with nightly rates of $2,500 USD for a garden-view bure. Prices include domestic air transfer; early morning (7 a.m.) check-in and late (4 p.m.) check out; all meals and beverages (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic); daily laundry; a massage; private beach picnic; one scuba dive per person; and much more. For guests looking for extra booking incentives, Indulge at Wakaya (stay for five nights and pay for four, plus a $200 spa credit) and Wakaya Escape (stay or for seven nights and pay for five) are available.
