The Philadelphia Eagles Desperately Need To Get Bill Belichick And Linda Holliday Back Together Before Sunday

Jordie

The Philadelphia Eagles kick off their revenge tour on Sunday. After just falling short in the #BigGame last season, it is a Super Bowl Or Bust type of year coming up for the Birds.

Now I know there are some simpletons out there who think that starting off the year with a loss could actually be a good thing in terms of resetting the Eagles. But that doesn't make a lick of sense to me. If this team wants to get back to the Super Bowl this year, it all starts with a big win on the road in Foxboro.

Which is why is should send a shiver down every Eagles fan's spine to know that Bill Belichick is heading into this weekend as a reportedly single man. The Patriots could make all the off-season moves they wanted to. They could sign Ezekiel Elliott. They could bring Jalen Reagor onto the practice squad to hopefully spill a few secrets about how the Eagles operate. But nothing, and I mean nothing, will make as big of an impact on the field than Bill Belichick being able to use this game to get over a breakup. If Eagles fans thought that we've gone up against a dialed in Bill Belichick before, then I don't even want to know what's in store for Sunday.

The easiest way to get over a breakup is to just completely immerse yourself in work. Not that Bill Belichick was ever thinking about anything other than football before, but maybe there were a few minutes throughout the day when his mind would wander. That won't be the case anymore. At least not unless we find a way to Parent Trap his relationship with Linda Holliday back together.

We need Lindsay Lohan. We need two of her, actually. We pretty much have 48 hours here to get those two in the same location at the same time, and make them fall in love again. If we can patch that relationship back up by kickoff on Sunday, then I love the Eagles chances of starting off the year 1-0. But if Bill is still a single man on that sideline come Sunday, then he might just be a little too much for Sean Desai and Brian Johnson to handle in their first game as coordinators with the Eagles.

GET ME TWO LINDSAY LOHANS RIGHT NOW!

Rodney McLeod Late to Revenge Tour, but Playing Well in Indy

  • Author: Ed Kracz

In this story:

Philadelphia Eagles

PHILADELPHIA – Rodney McLeod is a little late to the revenge tour of former Eagles earlier this season.

There was a four-game stretch where the tour included Jalen Reagor, Carson Wentz, Doug Pederson, and Zach Ertz in consecutive weeks from Weeks 2 through 5.

Feels like forever ago, perhaps.

Now comes McLeod’s turn when the Eagles (8-1) visit the Indianapolis Colts (4-5-1) on Sunday (1 p.m./CBS) in Week 11.

“Rodney brings a lot of leadership to any team that he's on,” said Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni on Friday. “He's a great person, great player, great leader, super smart, and you can see that he's identifying plays that are coming and that he's a step quick to it because of how his accelerated vision works and how smart of a football player he is.

“So, we need to know that, and we do know that and have to make sure we put some seeds of doubt in his head. So, a lot of respect for Rodney. Look forward to saying hello to him after the game, but he's playing good football.”

McLeod is wearing a new number in Indianapolis, exchanging his Eagles 23 for a Colts 26, but he is still playing at a high level, still playing every snap, and still a leader in the secondary.

The Eagles chose to move on from him during the offseason, opting to re-sign last year’s running mate Anthony Harris, who was released at the end of training camp, signed to Denver's practice squad, and, on Nov. 8, added to the Broncos’ 53-man roster.

McLeod's imprint on this current 8-1 Eagles team is still felt, though.

“Rod was a great leader, great teammate, just a great person,” said Eagles safety Marcus Epps. “It was great being here with him. Since I got here, he was always super helpful, passing along information, so I’m real close with him. It’s different seeing him on the other side, but it will always be cool to see him.”

Epps became the starter with McLeod moving on, and he has played every single defensive snap this season, all 609 of them.

That’s what McLeod did in Philly, and as played 100% of the snaps for the Colts over the previous eight games. He, of course, helped the Eagles win a Super Bowl in 2017.

“It’s too difficult to name just one thing (McLeod helped him with), but just how he carried himself as a player, as a teammate, as a leader,” said Epps. “Then just on the field, it was everything from learning the playbook to learning how to play certain coverages. He was always passing along knowledge, which he didn’t have to do.”

McLeod, now 32, has one interception, 51 tackles, and three passes defended.

Epps, by comparison, is third on the team in tackles with 52. He has yet to intercept a pass and has four passes defended. He is also nearly six years younger than McLeod.

Both McLeod ad Epps will be free agents at the end of the season provided neither gets an extension in the next couple of weeks.

Buccaneers on 'revenge tour' amid unexpected playoff run

Members of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers continue to embrace silencing doubters amid a playoff run few saw coming at the start of December.

"It's a revenge tour," Buccaneers inside linebacker Devin White said following the club's impressive 32-9 wild-card playoff win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night, per Jenna Laine of ESPN. "Everybody in this locker room, we believe in one another, and that's all that matters. People are going to talk on TV, they're going to make their predictions. But at the end of the day, the ball has to be placed and we have to go out there and play. What people say doesn't determine the outcome."

Tampa Bay players and coaches repeated similar mantras before and during the season as many expected the club to post a losing record following the retirement of quarterback Tom Brady. Such predictions seemed spot on when the Buccaneers dropped six of seven games to fall to 4-7, but starting signal-caller Baker Mayfield then helped Tampa Bay win five of six contests to claim the NFC South division title.

Laine mentioned the Bucs were 3.5-point home underdogs against the Eagles on Monday.

"There's something about whether it's you're an underdog or [on] a road game, just having your backs against the wall and knowing it's just your team versus everybody else when you're counted out," Mayfield said after he passed for 337 yards and three touchdowns versus Philadelphia. "It's always fun to be in that role. Obviously, I'm pretty comfortable in it, but our team has completely embraced that throughout the year."

As of late Tuesday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook listed the Buccaneers as six-point underdogs for this coming Sunday's divisional playoff matchup at the Detroit Lions. It sounds like those inside the Tampa Bay locker room such as tight end Cade Otton wouldn't have it any other way.

"We don't really think or care about what the outside says," Otton somewhat defiantly remarked. "We know the quality of players we have in the locker room, the quality of people, the coaches, the whole entire organization."

Much will be said and written about the futures that Mayfield and head coach Todd Bowles may or may not have with the Buccaneers beyond this Sunday's game at Ford Field. While things unquestionably change quickly in the NFL, logic suggests both men have done enough to run it back with Tampa Bay for at least one more season.

'It's A Revenge Tour': Eagles Fans Head To New Orleans Hungry For Win

January 12, 2019 / 11:15 AM EST / CBS Philadelphia

Follow CBSPHILLY Facebook  | Twitter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Eagles fans are heading to Bourbon Street and many say this game is all about revenge.

"Revenge game, gotta beat the Saints," said Matt Schnauffer.

Lines wrapped around TSA checkpoints at the Philadelphia International Airport Saturday as football fans readied for their flights.

Kristina Ballas secured her tickets to New Orleans before last weeks "double doink."

"I booked my ticket before the Bears game. I just chanced it. We're gonna win," said Ballas.

Eyewitness News asked other Eagles fans why they are heading to New Orleans.

"Why go to NOLA this weekend? Because I'm getting my ticket to L.A. next weekend," said Bob Letcavage.

"It's a revenge tour. They'll beat the Saints, the Cowboys and Big Red [Andy Reid] in the Super Bowl," said Kenny Gehlhaus.

Fans hope the Birds can weather the storm of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome and quiet the Who Dat Nation Saints crowd early on.

"They're hungry and they're passionate… and they're loud so it will be a tough game," said Ballas.

Season preview: Expectations for the Ateneo Blue Eagles’ revenge tour

By ralph anthony bautista , anton e. mercado and vito martin, published october 2, 2022 at 9:57 am, photo courtesy of din eugenio from the filipino-japanese journal.

After a quick offseason, the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Men’s Basketball Tournament is back. This season preview will analyze the state of the Ateneo Blue Eagles as they look to avenge last season’s finals loss.

AT THE pinnacle of the Ateneo Blue Eagles’ journey through Season 84 of the UAAP, Head Coach Tab Baldwin and his squad gazed upon an unfamiliar sight. For the first time in three seasons, a different team sat at the peak of the UAAP Men’s Basketball  mountaintop.

Four months after their finals loss at the hands of the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons, Ateneo looks to soar up the mountain once more to avenge their dethronement. Arguably the most inexperienced squad under the tutelage of Baldwin, the team’s fate is clouded with even more uncertainty as they begin their Season 85 journey.

With SJ Belangel, Gian Mamuyac, Jolo Mendoza, Tyler Tio, and Raffy Verano all departing for the professional leagues, only four members remain from Ateneo’s Season 82 championship squad. Ange Kouame, Geo Chiu, Matthew Daves, and BJ Andrade are the only remnants of Ateneo’s three-peat era. With the core of their regular rotation now gone, the Blue Eagles’ identity as the perennial favorites is now put in question.

Despite their relative inexperience compared to the former Ateneo rosters, there is still  a lot to look forward to in the new additions. Incoming sophomore standouts Forthsky Padrigao and Josh Lazaro aim to take a huge step forward with more prominent roles, while Filipino-American recruits Paul Garcia and Kai Balungay both look to make immediate impacts on the team. Finally, the core duo of Ange Kouame and Dave Ildefonso will anchor their squad filled with fresh talents.

With the Ateneo Blue Eagles set out to take back the crown in UAAP Season 85, here are a few narratives to watch for on their way back to the top.

The need for magic in a fresh-look backcourt

Ralph:  It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that the Blue Eagles’ backcourt unit suffered a huge loss in the offseason. With veteran playmaker SJ Belangel’s departure , an instrumental role to orchestrate the pass-first Tab Baldwin system has been freed up.

However, in the Blue Eagles’ brief but victorious stint in the World University Basketball Series (WUBS), Padrigao showcased why he is bound to be Ateneo’s next main floor general. In the aforementioned tourney, the sophomore averaged 10 points, 5.4 assists, and 2.3 steals in 21 minutes per game as a starter. Padrigao’s marksman-like accuracy as a passer combined with his skill in easily finding open lanes are testament to his exceptional court vision. With Padrigao’s past rookie season placing him fifth in team assists despite limited playing time, anticipate a huge jump in numbers as the former Batang Gilas stalwart is expected to carry a bigger workload.

When discussing depth, Ateneo’s addition of Paul Garcia is also a timely addition this offseason, as the Blue and White reload their firepower. The former US National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III cager has already staked his claim as a prolific shot-creator and a lethal off-ball weapon during the preseason. Beyond his impressive shot output in the WUBS, the 5’11 guard has shown promise in making high-quality reads and passes to improve the Blue Eagle offense.

Now a battle-tested veteran, Team Captain BJ Andrade is guaranteed to play with an additional chip on his shoulder. Since the Blue Eagles have been plagued with turnover issues from Season 84 up until their preseason tune-ups, Andrade’s experience will be crucial in stabilizing the offense. Averaging 5.9 points and 38% shooting from the perimeter last season, the clutch-time shotmaker is primed to guide his team in hopes of finishing his collegiate career with a championship.

With how the collegiate game has stylistically evolved to be more dynamic, an elite guard is a dire need in the Blue Eagles’ quest for vindication.

Fortifying the paint

Anton: Coming into Season 84, Ateneo believed they had a plethora of strengths and scant weaknesses to address—all until they met their cross-avenue rivals in the championship. Coach Baldwin found his match in UP’s Head Coach Goldwyn Monteverde, as the latter was able to slay the once-undefeated Ateneo.

Coach Monteverde’s key asset in UP’s victory was the big trio of Zavier Lucero, Carl Tamayo, and Finals MVP Malick Diouf. In the three-game finals against the Blue Eagles, the frontcourt triad combined for 87 boards and 94 points for the Fighting Maroons. They were also able to contain league MVP Kouame, limiting him to only 47% shooting from the field. In the latter stages of Game Three, they also forced crucial turnovers on Ateneo’s 6’10 center to clinch the championship for Diliman.

After the bitter loss, Ateneo looks to bounce back, securing the commitment of 6’7 standout Kai Ballungay—a welcome addition after the departure of key power forward Raffy Verano. His strong presence in turn beefs up a loaded frontcourt with his tall frame and athleticism to get to the rim. The Filipino-American also joins sharpshooters Andrade and Ildefonso to space the floor. Expect Ballungay to make an immediate contribution for Coach Tab, and help Kouame anchor the team’s offense as the season takes off.

A potential hiccup for the Blue Eagles is Kouame’s health status, as he is still reeling from the meniscal sprain and partial Anterior Cruciate Ligament tear he suffered during his stint with the Philippine National Team. Baldwin mentioned in a recent podcast that Kouame is still far from his MVP form.

Thus, with the rise of upcoming rookies and the question marks on the star big man’s health, this season’s Blue Eagle frontcourt is in for a hellacious ride, one way or another.

eagles revenge tour

The key cog of the Ateneo offense

Vito: As Kouame continues to anchor the paint and with Coach Baldwin still calling the shots, fans can rest easy knowing that the Ateneo defense will still be leagues ahead of everyone else. Although there will surely be concerns during the minutes Kouame spends on the bench, those two factors alone are sufficient to give Ateneo an edge above most teams in the season.

Now, the real point of interest for the Blue Eagles’ season lies on the offensive end. Though Baldwin’s philosophy of spacing and ball movement will be at the forefront of the system, the possible decline in offensive firepower this upcoming one is difficult to ignore.

The absences of Belangel, Tio, and Mamuyac—three key cogs in the Ateneo offense that kept the machine running smoothly with their shot creation and playmaking abilities–will be heavily felt on the offensive end. Fortunately for the Blue and White, star forward Dave Ildefonso’s talent can maintain the offensive momentum for the coming year.

Ever since coming over to Katipunan, Ildefonso’s offensive bag has grown—blossoming into a three-level scorer that can now create space both for himself and others. Even if Coach Baldwin was never one to run isolation plays for his teams, Ildefonso has shown glimpses of his ability to carry a team’s offense, evidenced over the offseason in his 27 point masterclass .

At the end of their finals bout against UP, Ildefonso was largely the first target of criticism as many fans found his performance on the big stage underwhelming. After previously averaging 11.6 points on 41% shooting from the field and 36% from the three point line during the eliminations, Ildefonso’s numbers dropped to just 6 points on 32% shooting throughout the finals. Amid the dismay of his finals production output, Ildefonso is expected to bounce back this coming season given that he has the wide skill set to back it up.

Ultimately, with many key pieces gone, the reigning season MVP Koaume hobbled, and a brand new supporting cast at his side, the lights shine even brighter now on Ildefonso as he boosts Ateneo’s offense.

Slow shooting, inconsistent defense drop Duke women's lacrosse out of ACC tournament against Boston College

Katie Keller on defense in Duke's home game against Clemson.

No. 6-seed Duke faced No. 3-seed Boston College Wednesday night in the quarterfinals of the ACC tournament, seeking to avenge its 18-3 loss one month prior. The Eagles, however, took command early and kept their feet on the gas, spoiling Duke’s revenge tour and sending the Blue Devils packing out of Charlotte with a 19-5 loss.

Duke’s offense lacked composure and fire power with seven turnovers and just three shots in the first frame, and senior attacker and Tewaaraton Award nominee Katie DeSimone had a quiet day with just one shot and no points for the first time this season. Despite this, Duke (10-8, 4-5 in the ACC) only trailed 4-2 after the first quarter thanks to senior midfielder Katie Keller and graduate attacker Caroline DeBellis. But Boston College (14-3, 7-2) opened the second quarter with a five-goal run and never let up. Unable to win possessions on the draw circle, Duke couldn’t answer, and when in possession, made unforced errant passes out of bounds. Attacker Rachel Clark took advantage for Boston College with four goals, and three other Eagles had a hat trick as well. At the halftime break, Boston College led 11-3 and went on cruise control the rest of the game, coasting to the win and their seventh straight appearance in the ACC semifinals.

Despite being outshot 10-3 in the first quarter, the Blue Devils remained a threat early. Seven minutes into the game, graduate midfielder Olivia Carner stole the ball out of the air in a heads-up defensive play and took it downfield to junior attacker Carly Bernstein. She found junior midfielder Mattie Shearer on the right wing of the crease, who then dumped it across the eight meter to Debellis on the opposite side. Debellis quick-sticked it past Eagle goalie Shea Dolce to complete the transition goal, closing the gap to 3-2 and answering the two goals that Boston College had just punched in 41 seconds.

It looked like the game would continue this way, both teams neck-and-neck and trading goals. But Boston College dominated on the draw circle: The Eagles sliced and diced Duke’s defense and scored six unanswered goals between the first and second quarters, winning 13 draw controls to the Blue Devils' three during the first half. With just over three minutes left in the second quarter, DeBellis bailed Duke out with a high stick side shot on the doorstep, but Boston College snuck two more in before the end of the half to command an eight-goal lead heading into the locker room.

At the half, both teams were shooting 50% and had nine turnovers, but Boston College had 22 shots compared to Duke’s six. The Blue Devils barely had the ball in their sticks due to the Eagles’ relentlessness on the draw circle — and without the ball, the Blue Devils couldn’t score.

Boston College handily put Duke away in the final thirty minutes. Midfielder Andrea Reynolds continued to win possessions for the Eagles, finishing the day with seven personal draw controls; Duke had a collective five total. The lopsided performance translated to shots, with Boston College outshooting Duke 40 to 13 on the day. DeBellis scored again in the third quarter for a hat trick and freshman midfielder Bella Goodwin also got on the scoresheet, but Boston College held Duke scoreless in the final frame whilst tacking on four more goals of its own.

After the disappointing defeat, the Blue Devils’ playoff hopes remain in limbo. They are on the bubble of making the NCAA tournament, and will have to wait until Selection Sunday May 5 to know whether they can pop it or not.

Buccaneers establish lame 'revenge tour' narrative heading into playoff rematch with Lions

The Lions humbled the Buccaneers back in Week 6, and Tampa Bay has revenge on their minds immediately.

By Brad Berreman | Jan 16, 2024

eagles revenge tour

Back in Week 6, the Detroit Lions were 4-1 and hitting the road to face a Tampa Bay Buccaneers team that looked like a flimsy 3-1 squad. The Lions came home with a 20-6 win, outgaining the Bucs 380-251 as Jared Goff threw for 353 yards and two touchdowns .

That loss started a four-game losing streak to the Buccaneers, and they lost six out of seven to show that the aforementioned 3-1 mark was indeed pretty flimsy. But then they won four in a row, and five of their last six regular season games to win the NFC South.

On Monday night to wrap up Wild Card Weekend, the Buccaneers took advantage of a disjointed Philadelphia Eagles' squad in a 32-9 win. That set up a rematch with the Lions in the Divisional Round next Sunday afternoon, in Detroit this time.

Buccaneers' players make it known they have a 'revenge tour' going before playoff rematch vs. Lions

On the field after the game with CBS' Evan Washburn, Buccaneers safety Antoine Winfield Jr. wasted no time to fire a shot across the Lions' bow.

"On a revenge tour, all those teams ahead of us beat us in the regular season," Winfield said. "We're gonna have a great time with them."

"On a revenge tour ... They all beat us in the regular season, so we're gonna have a great time with them." - Antoine Winfield Jr. on Bucs facing Lions after Eagles (🎤 @EvanWashburn ) pic.twitter.com/pX9JSKS1CV — NFL on CBS 🏈 (@NFLonCBS) January 16, 2024

After Monday night's game, Buccaneers linebacker Shaq Barrett. via Kory Woods of MLive , also pulled out the words "revenge tour" when looking ahead to the rematch with the Lions.

“ I’m looking forward to it,” Barrett said. “I know playoff football hasn’t been there (Detroit) for a long time and it’s finally back, and they beat us early in the year, so it’s another step in our revenge tour, and I’m looking forward to it. I love going in there playing the atmosphere. I love hostile environments, especially playoff hostile-style environments.

“I prefer to be home, though, but I’m just looking forward to it. It’s going to be a good game, and once we prepare and start figuring out what we got to do and we do that stuff, we should be able to come out on top.”

What Winfield and Barrett seem to be forgetting is who the Lions were without during the regular season matchup. Their team had no notable injury absences.

Defensive back Brian Branch, running back Jahmyr Gibbs, guard Jonah Jackson missed the game for the Lions. Running back David Montgomery suffered a rib injury in the first half and did not return. C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Josh Paschal were on IR. Ifeatu Melinfonwu only played special teams in the game. All are/have become notable pieces for the Lions, and they beat the Buccaneers essentially without all of them.

The Buccaneers may be on a "revenge tour" after beating the Eagles, who they also lost to early in the regular season. But the Lions aren't going to lay down for them like the Eagles did, and if you look at Tampa Bay's late-season run to win the worst division in the NFL it's not exactly impressive .
