About the Event

The Rocky Horror Picture Show, the longest-running theatrical release in film history, celebrates its 49th Anniversary kicking-off two national tours in over 40 cities. Fans will be able to meet and talk with Patricia Quinn, acclaimed star of this original cult classic in person. Quinn’s iconic portrayal of “Magenta” have thrilled generations of fans for nearly 50 years.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is the iconic little movie that conquered Hollywood. The hit movie stars Tim Curry as the devious and fabulous Frank-N-Furter, Meatloaf, Barry Bostwick and Susan Sarandon as everybody's favorite nerdy couple –Brad and Janet – and the film's creator Richard O'Brien as Riff Raff. The film has become one of the longest weekly showing movies in the world. The 2023-2024 National Tour gives fans the chance to experience in-person this very special interactive sensation. 

The show will also feature a costume contest, a performance by the local Shadow Cast and a memorabilia display with artifacts and costumes from the movie. The Shadow Cast hilariously acts out the movie on stage while the movie plays on screen.

Limited VIP tickets are available and include a meet and greet with Patricia Quinn. Nothing beats a Rocky Horror screening where you can jump up and dance to the time warp in this live, interactive experience. It's a one of a kind "happening". Come up to the lab and see what's on the slab!

This brand new Australian production will open at Theatre Royal Sydney in February 2023 starring Australian superstars Jason Donovan as Frank N Furter, and Myf Warhurst as The Narrator. Joining them will be Ellis Dolan as Eddie/Dr Scott, Darcey Eagle as Columbia, Ethan Jones as Brad, Deirdre Khoo as Janet, Loredo Malcolm as Rocky and Henry Rollo as Riff Raff. Director Jim Sharman's iconic cult film features Barry Bostwick and Susan Sarandon as Brad and Janet, a a pair of small-town lovebirds whose car decides breaks down near a creepy old castle.

Inside, they find themselves amidst a peculiar group of "unconventional conventionalists" all eager to witness the latest creation of the flamboyant transvestite scientist, Dr. Frank-N-Furter.

Let's do the Time Warp again…

Since it first opened in London in June 1973, Richard O’Brien’s Rocky Horror Show has become the world’s favourite Rock ‘N’ Roll musical, having been performed worldwide for over 45 years in more than 30 countries and translated into 20 languages.

On the way to visit an old college professor two very clean cut American kids Brad Majors and his fiancée Janet Weiss blow a tyre and go to get help at a house in the distance where they can see a light on. But it’s the home of Frankenstein, where Dr Frank'n'Furter is in the middle of one of his scary experiments.

Sweethearts Brad and Janet go on an adventure they’ll never forget, with  Frank’n’Furter, Rocky, Riff Raff and Magenta .  Timeless classics help them on their way including ‘Sweet Transvestite', Damn it Janet' and the pelvic-thrusting ‘Time Warp'.

News Update 10 May: Singing superstar Jason Donovan is set to thrill theatre audiences later this year, as he joins the cast of Richard O’Brien’s legendary rock ‘n’ roll musical the Rocky Horror Show, to star as Frank ‘n’ Furter in the 2024/2025 UK tour. Jason will be returning to the role of Frank for the first time in the UK for over 25 years.

2023 marks the 50th Anniversary of the legendary smash hit musical The Rocky Horror Show , as it continues to play a newly extended tour through 2023 to sell-out crowds.

Richard O’Brien’s legendary rock ‘n’ roll musical celebrates 50 years of non-stop partying with this special anniversary production. Since it first opened in London in June 1973 at the Royal Court Theatre The Rocky Horror Show has become the longest continuous run of a contemporary musical anywhere in the world.

The show has been seen by over 30 million people worldwide in more than 30 countries and translated into 20 languages as it continues to delight audiences on its sell-out international tour.

Richard O’Brien said: “Back in the 1970’s when someone asked me to entertain the Christmas staff party at the EMI Film Studios and I turned up with a song called Science Fiction Double Feature who would have known this was the germ of the idea to turn into today what is The Rocky Horror Show. To be celebrating fifty years is beyond my wildest expectations – from the humble beginnings back in 1973 at the Royal Court Theatre in London. The fact that The Rocky Horror show continues to delight audiences as it tours the UK fifty years on is simply thrilling. The Rocky Horror Show is one of Britain’s most performed and beloved musicals of all time.”

As part of the 50th Anniversary celebrations, actor, presenter and winner of Strictly Come Dancing Ore Oduba is to don his fishnets once again as he returns to the role of Brad Majors in this special 50th year for a limited six week run between 3rd May and 10th June at the Peacock Theatre, London.

Ore Oduba said: “I can’t wait to reunite with my Rocky family, reprising my role as Brad Majors. There is just nothing quite like the Rocky Horror Show. I had the most incredible time touring the country last year, so to slip on the heels and zip up my corset again on the 50th anniversary of this iconic show will be so special. I can’t’ wait to Time Warp again at the Peacock Theatre, it’s going to be epic!”

A brilliant cast are already wowing Rocky Horror audiences up and down the country, with West End star Stephen Webb (Jersey Boys/Legally Blonde) continuing in the iconic role of Frank, slipping into a corset and heels with ease, actor Philip Franks (The Darling Buds of May) plays The Narrator, Richard Meek (Hairspray/Spamlot) makes a welcome return as Brad and is joined by fan favourite Haley Flaherty (Mamma Mia/Chicago) as Janet.

Kristian Lavercombe (Jersey Boys/Jesus Christ Superstar) once again reprises his role as Riff Raff, following more than 2000 performances around the world, with Darcy Finden who made her professional debut last year as one of the Phantoms now stepping up to play the role of as Columbia. Ben Westhead (Oliver/The Sound of Music) plays Rocky, Suzie McAdams (School of Rock/Kinky Boots) takes on the role of Magenta and Joe Allen (Little Shop of Horrors/Charlie & The Chocolate Factory) plays Eddie & Dr Scott. Playing the Phantoms are Stefania Du Toit (Starlight Express/Singing in the Rain), Jessica Sole (Into The Woods/Camelot), Reece Budin (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical/Man of La Mancha) and Fionán O’Carroll (Theatre whilst training: Urinetown/Children of Eden) who is making his professional debut. Nathan Shaw (Walk Like A Man) and Tyla Nurden (Funny Girl/Carrie, The Musical) are Swings.

What's opening in london theatres this month (september 2024).

It’s not just the Harrods Christmas Shop that’s opening in the capital this month, some of this year's most hotly anticipated shows are finally starting their runs in the West End this Autumn! You’ve got to be quick though, unlike the overpriced tinsel and mountains of mince pies adorning the department store’s basement, some of these productions won’t be here for long - in fact most are like a British summer, and are around for just 13 days!

Whether you’re in the mood for a brand-new musical, a hundred year old play or an out of this world cult-hit, just like Santa, theatreland delivers. 

The Rocky Horror Show (6 September)

Take a jump to the left, and step right into the Dominion Theatre this September as Jason Donovan stars in Richard O’Brien ’s legendary rock ‘n’ roll musical, The Rocky Horror Picture Show ! 

Following a sellout season at the Theatre Royal in Sydney, Jason Donovan leaves us in antici-pation no more, as he reprises his critically acclaimed role of Dr Frank ‘n’ Furter in the cult classic musical. He’s joined by stand-up comedian, sitcom star and Taskmaster contestant, Mawaan Rizwan .

Now in its 51st year, you should probably know what the show is about by now. However, if you’ve been living on another planet, let us give you the breakdown. Newly engaged couple, Brad and Janet, stumble upon Dr. Frank-N-Furter’s mansion when their car breaks down. Seeking help from the mad scientist, the squeaky clean pair get more than they bargained for as they enter a strange new world filled with frolics, frocks, frivolity and plenty of fuc… love making. 

Hurry, The Rocky Horror Show’s time in the capital is fleeting, with the award-winning production playing for two weeks only! So grab your spaceship, and head down to the theatre before it’s too late. 

I Wish You Well – The Gwyneth Paltrow Ski-Trial Musical (11 September)

Watch out! Following a critically acclaimed (ski) season at the Edinburgh Fringe, the Paltrow parody is crashing into the Criterion Theatre this Autumn!

X Factor icon and West End star, Diana Vickers ( The Rise and Fall of Little Voice ), stars as gwynspirational Goop founder Gwyneth Paltrow. She is joined by Olivier award nominee Marc Antolin (Terry), BBC New Talent Hotlister Tori Allen-Martin (Kristin) and Shiz University alumni Idriss Kargbo (Judge Jude). 

The fast-paced musical sees two worlds collide (literally) when a beautiful A-Lister and a retired optometrist go head to head in an Ohio courtroom. Packed full of iconic moments, including the now famous whisper of ‘I wish you well’ (well, the title kind of gives it away) – this farcical production sounds as good as Gwyneth’s candle smells. Throw in some jade eggs and some seriously silly songs, such as ‘Do You Know Taylor?’ and ‘I’m Gwynnocent’, and you have yourself a hilarious musical bursting with heart (and questionable wellness products).

Waiting for Godot (13 September)

The wait is finally over, let the waiting commence!

A-Listers, Ben Whishaw ( Paddington, Julius Caesar ) and Lucian Msamati ( Othello, Game of Thrones ) star in Samuel Beckett ’s ground-breaking play, Waiting for Godot .

Voted the most important English-language play of the 20th century, the production follows Vladimir and Estragon as they wait for a man named Godot. Throughout their vigil, the pair discuss the absurdity and uncertainty of life.

“Let us do something, while we have the chance…at this place, at this moment of time, all mankind is us, whether we like it or not. Let us make the most of it before it is too late!”

The rocky horror show confirms west end narrator.

Award winning comedian, Mawaan Rizwan would like to take us on a strange journey. Best known for creating and starring in the BAFTA winning comedy, Juice, Mawaan will be taking on the iconic role of The Narrator in the West End production of The Rocky Horror Show . He will star opposite the previously announced Jason Donovan , who reprises his critically acclaimed role as Dr Frank-n-Furter.

Blending cultural insights with absurdist comedy, Mawaan first gained attention through his YouTube channel, where his quirky and offbeat sketches "How Gay Is Pakistani TV?" and "Mawaan & Friends," quickly garnered a significant cult following. On the slightly bigger screen, Mawaan went on to star in Sex Education and Taskmaster , where his chaotic and joyful approach quickly made him a fan favourite.

The rocky horror show set to return to the london stage.

The Rocky Horror Show is returning to the London stage this autumn. Richard O’Brian’s hugely legendary rock musical is heading to The Peacock Theatre as part of its world tour. Opening on 10 th  October 2021, the production will star Strictly Come Dancing winner Ore Oduba as Brad and will be directed by Christopher Luscombe.

He'll perform alongside West-end stars Lauren Chia ("Aladdin", "Frozen") and Connor Carson ("The Phantom of the Opera") as Janet and Brad, Job Greuter as Riff Raff ("Little Women"), and Morgan Jackson ("Mamma Mia!", "Fame") as Rocky. Actor and BAFTA Award-winning comedian Mawaan Rizwan joins as The Narrator—his writing credits include Netflix's "Sex Education" and he's also appeared on "Taskmaster" and "Live at the Apollo".

Richard O'Brien's Rocky Horror Show kicks off another West End run this weekend, starring none other than musical theatre legend Jason Donovan as Frank-N-Furter.

But, before the cult musical touch-a, touch-a, touches down on the London stage, we caught up with comedian and Taskmaster alumnus Mawaan Rizwan, who is set to make his musical theatre debut as the narrator.

Speaking exclusively to RadioTimes.com , Rizwan confirmed that audiences can expect a new "spin" from Donovan and the rest of the cast.

"[Jason's] great, and I love his take on the character. He’s been making some really artistically inventive choices, and it’s brilliant to see that in action."

He continued: "It’s his own thing, which I think audiences will really love."

Donovan recently took his "take" on Dr Frank-N-Furter – most famously played by Tim Curry in the 1975 film – to the Theatre Royal Sydney, where he earned stellar reviews.

But, for UK audiences, the Neighbours actor hasn't appeared in his famous fishnets for over 25 years – so the pressure is on.

However, Rizwan was confident in Donovan, who he dubbed a "musical theatre genius", and said that the whole cast were aware of the show's importance.

"Rocky Horror is an institution in itself, and it’s a really tricky balance, because you want to honour what the audience love about it but you also want to bring something new to it.

"I think the very cult classic moments are very much still in there, but the cast, just because of who they are, have a really unique take on it."

He went on to say that his version of the narrator was very much in this theme: "My take on the narrator is a bit different, and it’s really nice to be able to have fun within the parameters of what’s existed for decades."

The comedian teased that there would be plenty of audience interaction from him, and called that "the best part" of playing the narrator.

"Every night is going to be different for me. To have a direct line with the audience and not know what’s going to happen is very exciting for me, especially with my stand-up background."

Rizwan will be appearing in The Rocky Horror Show from Friday 6th to Friday 20th September at the Dominion Theatre.

The Rocky Horror Show is knocking on London's door for just two weeks this September, from Friday 6th to Friday 20th.

But babies, don't you panic, because after that the show will be heading on tour across the UK, with over 30 venues booked in. For the full list of dates, head over to the official website .

The tour will run all the way until August 2025 - however, Jason Donovan will only be appearing until February 2025, and Mawaan Rizwan will be performing as the narrator for the London dates only.
