About girl in red

(june 16 & 17).

The alternative pop artist from Oslo, born Marie Ulven - is continuing her path to world domination, kicking off 2022 with a  Best New Alternative Artist nomination for the iHeart Radio Music Awards.

It’s a well-deserved nod, considering she was the most played female artist on Alt Radio with “Serotonin”. The song reached #2 and spent 30 weeks on the Alt chart, 21 of those weeks in the Top 10. “Serotonin” streams currently surpass 84M for the track, with over 1.85 billion career streams to date.

girl in red spent much of 2022 on her first headline tour since the release of her debut album; she had a robust run across North America with major festival highlights including Coachella and Lollapalooza. She also had monster sets at Oya, Glastonbury and a sold out headline show at NYC’s famed Pier 17. A passionate live performer she will continue to tour, up next is a UK & EU headline run in 2023, including a sold out show at O2 Academy Brixton.

Ulven released her critically acclaimed debut album  if i could make it go quiet  in 2021, to world-wide critical acclaim from fans and critics alike. Celebrity supporters included Taylor Swift and Camilla Cabello and more. Press response was astoundingly positive, with many outlets proclaiming it  “Best of 2021”  including but not limited to Rolling Stone, Billboard, Variety, NPR, Stereogum, NYLON  and more.

In 2021, she also performed on  The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon  and  Late Night With Seth Meyers , as well as TV performances worldwide including but not limited to  Skavlan ,  Late Night Berlin  and  MTV’s EMA s.

About Gracie Abrams

Since making her debut with “Mean It” in October 2019, Gracie Abrams has emerged as one of the most compelling songwriters of her generation. She is a consummate songwriter who names iconic figures like Joni Mitchell and Taylor Swift as her most formative influences. Executive-produced by Blake Slatkin — and also made with leading producers like Joel Little and benny blanco- her debut project minor features her beloved singles, “21,” and “I miss you, I’m sorry”.

In November 2021, Abrams returned with This Is What It Feels Like, a 12-track project exploring such complex emotional experiences as self-betrayal, insecurity, and failed attempts at connection. Abrams kicked off 2022 with a headline tour of North America followed by a support slot on Olivia Rodrigo’s tour. She reconnected with The National’s Aaron Dessner to release two songs this year – “Block me out” and “Difficult” – and continues to work on her debut album.

About OWENN

This Summer, OWENN, the talented multi-hyphenate, brought his enigmatic spirit and smokey sense of soul to the forefront as he formally introduced himself on his debut tour, highlighted by a Main Stage East show at Lollapalooza Paris; OWENN carried the momentum from Europe having just recently opened for Lil Nas X on the two sold out New York, Radio City Music Hall shows – Long Live Montero Tour.

OWENN has attracted attention contributing dance moves on stages worldwide with A-list artists such as Beyoncé, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Alicia Keys, Megan Thee Stallion, Normani and others. Including, most recently working with Lil Nas X to choreograph his tv performances for MTV VMAs and live show appearances on the iHeart Jingle Ball Tour.  OWENN became a staple of Taylor Swift’s show on her 1989 Tour  and  Reputation Tour .  In 2019, he starred alongside Taylor in her video for “ Lover ,” as well as Normani in her video for “ Motivation ”.

Inspired by Prince, Marvin Gaye, Usher, Fleetwood Mac, David Bowie, and the Smiths, among others, OWENN’s emotional and spiritual approach to dance translated to writing and recording. OWENN’s debut EP will be released in fall of 2023.

The latest breaking updates, delivered straight to your email inbox.

Pittsburgh is just a day away from a Taylor takeover on the North Shore.

Taylor Swift fans are getting ready to see the superstar perform over two nights at Acrisure Stadium. While tens of thousands of tickets have already been sold, a few hundred remain up for grabs.

As Swift fans know "All Too Well," tickets were tough to get ahold of. A "Bad Blood" was built between fans and Ticketmaster during the original sale last fall.

Now, some of the current prices could have folks saying "Look What You Made Me Do" to my bank account.

By Thursday, around 400 tickets each were still available for both shows. On Stubhub, prices ranged from $1,200 to more than $26,000 for Friday's performance . Fans looking to see Swift on Saturday could shell out anywhere from $1,600 to $8,550.

Important information for buying tickets during the TaylorSwiftTix Presale powered by Verified Fan:

Our goal is to maximize the number of fans who have an opportunity to shop.

The link in your text will direct you to the show you were selected for — either a show that was available during registration or a show that was announced after registration closed.

If you were selected for a show available during registration, your code will enable you to shop  that  show  or any show in the same city  that was announced after registration closed. (You will not be able to shop a different show that was available during registration).

If you were selected for a show announced after registration closed — i.e., the link in your text directs you to one of those shows — your code is good for that show. We recommend you use the code for that show as it will have the greatest availability for you. If you choose, you can use your code instead for the show you prioritized first during registration; however, we expect demand for that show to be higher and your wait to be longer.

Remember, each code only allows you to purchase 6 tickets.

City officials, businesses prepare as Swifties descend upon Pittsburgh

Taylor Swift performs in a glittering suit and stilettos.

Tens of thousands of Taylor Swift fans will descend on Downtown Pittsburgh this weekend to be enchanted by her highly anticipated stint at Acrisure Stadium.

Swift will perform for two consecutive nights at the 68,400-seat venue as part of her sold-out Eras Tour. On top of that, Pittsburgh Regional Transit CEO Katherine Kelleman said the agency expects as many as 15,000 additional fans to tailgate outside the stadium, as they did during Swift’s stop in Philadelphia last month.

The agency announced during the weekend that it would add additional train cars to its light-rail T lines to get fans to and from the stadium.

Speaking outside the City-County Building on Wednesday, however, Pittsburgh Public Safety Director Lee Schmidt discouraged those without tickets from flocking to the North Shore.

“We know that those who are not attending still want to be part of the experience, but we're asking [that] if you do not have tickets, do not add to the volume of people on the North Shore,” Schmidt said. “We don't really have areas to listen, or for you to stand around the stadium safely.”

Schmidt also asked that anyone attending the concert — or any of this weekend’s festivities — get ready for it far ahead of time. He urged people to take public transit as much as possible, as well as park far outside the event areas and walk in.

Parking lots for the concert will open to Swift’s fans at 1:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. But Burt Lauten, senior director of communications for the Steelers, said each will be manned by security guards to ensure only those with tickets enter.

“We want to make sure that the people who do have tickets get in easily, enjoy the concert and then get home safely afterward,” Lauten said.

Pittsburgh police, EMS and the Office of Emergency Management will each be fully staffed this weekend to support all event go-ers — including those attending Juneteenth celebrations through Monday downtown and at Point State Park, as well as multiple Pittsburgh Public Schools commencement ceremonies on Friday.

With highs in the 70s both Friday and Saturday, Amera Gilchrist, the city’s EMS chief, said there isn’t likely to be any cruel summer weather to cause problems. Still, the city will have up to 24 EMS personnel on-site at the concert, as well as additional transport units outside to get people to the hospital as needed.

Start your morning with today's news on Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania.

A major economic driver.

Jerad Bachar, CEO of Visit Pittsburgh, said Swift’s concert is projected to be one of the largest shows ever held in Pittsburgh, potentially breaking Garth Brooks’ record for concert attendance.

Before Brooks — whose 2019 concert at then-Heinz Field sold 73,000 tickets — Swift held the bejeweled crown of Pittsburgh for her 56,445-person show in 2018.

By comparison, Elton John’s 40,000-person show at PNC Park concert last year brought $11.5 million to the region, according to an economic assessment by Visit Pittsburgh and the Pirates.

“The economic impact is pretty remarkable,” Bachar said. “So we're really excited to see what Taylor Swift is going to bring for the community. We know it's going to be much bigger.”

Bachar said economic ramifications of the concert will include the large uptick in people staying at the region’s hotels, eating in local restaurants and going to nearby attractions.

Each of the approximately 6,000 hotel rooms in Downtown Pittsburgh is booked up this weekend, according to Bachar, as are many hotels in the surrounding area.

A WESA analysis found rates for the few rooms that remained open this weekend were as much as five times greater than rates the following weekend, including near the airport and as far north as Cranberry.

As of Thursday morning, fans had already lined up around the North Shore to buy merchandise a day ahead of Swift’s very first night .

According to Lauten with the Steelers, Swifties will come to Pittsburgh from across the country and Canada. The singer-songwriter’s latest tour is passing over nearby cities she stopped at during her 2018 Reputation tour, including Columbus and Cleveland.

Pittsburgh is set to host several other megastars between Acrisure and other local venues this summer, including Beyonce and Ed Sheeran, whose tours will also skip those cities.

“You're seeing that Pittsburgh continues to grow in popularity when it comes to these mega events,” Bachar said. “And as we continue to look into the future, a lot of the events that are taking place here, the audiences are getting bigger, they're getting more diverse. They're getting to a point where Pittsburgh is seen as a major events destination. And these types of concerts help drive that reputation.”

An end game analysis of ticket holders won’t occur until after the concert, but Bachar said he’s hopeful those visitors will experience the city and want to return. The momentum for growth is there, he said, as 42% of those who travel to Pittsburgh come back throughout the year.

“If you look at other events like Pride, the growth trajectory that we've seen for Picklesburgh and some of the other local unique events, they continue to grow year over year,” Bachar added.

How businesses are preparing for ‘Swiftsburgh’

Businesses across the region know all too well they can use the influx of Swifties as an opportunity to draw in additional customers.

Kennywood will offer concert attendees $22 off admission for up to four tickets Thursday through Sunday when they show their Eras Tour ticket at the gate.

Millie’s will also start scooping a special batch of Lavender Haze ice cream in its shops Friday, in addition to a similarly-inspired margarita at Las Velas in Market Square.

Brooke Keane of Trace Brewing has been a longtime fan of Taylor Swift. The Bloomfield brewery hosted a friendship bracelet-making event Wednesday evening.

“I think it's a really cute, fun way for fans to meet and get to know each other, and just have Taylor bring people together,” Keane said.

A photograph of a man sitting on a bench in a park while reading under trees.

Continuing the fun, the Carnegie Science Center will hide 10 tiny Swift figurines in their Miniature Railroad and Village exhibit for two days, with each figure corresponding with one of the singer’s 10 albums.

The “tiny Taylors” will remain on display through Sunday, Aug. 20, and, in part, promote an ongoing Taylor Swift-themed laser show running at the Buhl Planetarium through Sept. 4.

“She may not fit into the Miniature Railroad’s timeline or aesthetic,” said Rosalie Garfinkle with the Carnegie Science Center, “but Taylor Swift never goes out of style .”

WESA's Shreya Singh contributed to this report.

How to buy Taylor Swift tickets: Eras Tour dates and prices compared

When you buy through our links, Business Insider may earn an affiliate commission. Learn more

Taylor Swift's European tour dates have come to an end, but she'll start back up on the final leg of The Eras Tour in October. She finished her final London shows in August and will return to North America to tour Canada and a few remaining US cities in the fall. If you're hoping to attend, we've compiled all of the details of The Eras Tour, including how to get Taylor Swift tickets.

Swift's Eras Tour has taken the world by storm since March 2023. The three-plus-hour tour features hits from each of Swift's album eras, from "Lover" to her Grammy Award-winning "Midnights." Each show also features surprise songs and occasional guests, so fans never quite know what they're in for. Swift released her latest album, "The Tortured Poets Department," in April, and the Swiftie hype has continued throughout the summer.

Getting tickets has become its own battle and many fans have waited hours in the Ticketmaster queue to hopefully snag some seats, if they could get a presale ticket code in the first place. So far, Swift's tour has passed through various cities in the US, Europe, Australia, Latin America, and Asia, among other regions. As Swift approaches her last tour dates, which will see her take her final bow in Canada, tickets remain hard to come by.

Below, we've put together a guide on everything to know about The Eras Tour, including the tour schedule, ticket purchasing details, resale ticket prices, and the concert film streaming options. You can also peruse resale vendors like StubHub and Vivid Seats at your leisure.

Taylor Swift North American tour dates

The Eras tour will return to the US on October 18 in Miami. In addition to the Miami shows, Swift will perform multiple dates in New Orleans and Indianapolis. On November 14, Swift will head to Canada for several shows in Toronto and Vancouver. All North American shows start at 7 p.m. local time.

How to buy tickets for Taylor Swift's 2024 tour

Original standard tickets for Taylor Swift's 2024 sold out long ago for both international and domestic dates. All US tickets and many international tickets were sold through Ticketmaster , although select international locations used different services.

Tickets for most dates are available on resale websites like StubHub and Vivid Seats . These are generally higher-priced than the originals, which are no longer available. Keep in mind that some countries have rules regarding reselling tickets.

How much are Taylor Swift tickets?

Ticket prices vary by date and location. European resale tickets tended to be a bit cheaper than North American resale tickets. Some of the cheapest tickets have restricted views.

When it comes to North American shows, the cheapest StubHub tickets range from $1,661 (Vancouver, Canada, on December 6) to $2,322 (Indianapolis, Indiana, on November 2). Most of the cheapest tickets are priced between $1,600 and $2,300. On Vivid Seats, the cheapest Taylor Swift tickets on these dates start at $1,899 and $2,625, respectively. The two resale vendors generally have similarly priced offerings, but this varies from show to show.

Who is opening for Taylor Swift's tour?

Taylor Swift has a variety of opening acts, from up-and-coming singers to established groups. Opening acts vary by date. In the US and Canada, Gracie Abrams will be the opening act. For the European leg of the tour, Paramore opened for Swift. Earlier in the tour, Swift had Sabrina Carpenter, Phoebe Bridgers, MUNA, HAIM, and more open for her.

Will Taylor Swift add more dates to the Eras Tour?

Taylor Swift has already added additional stops to her tour due to popular demand, including her US tour dates this fall. She also added additional dates to some of her European city stops, including bonus performances in France and the United Kingdom, among other locations.

During her 100th show, a mid-June performance in Liverpool, Swift acknowledged that the tour would conclude in December. "The celebration of the 100th show for me means this is the very first time I've ever acknowledged to myself and admitted that this tour is going to end in December," Swift told the crowd in a moment that was widely captured and posted across social media. This statement means that the Eras Tour is unlikely to extend past 2024, but we'll keep this guide updated if Swift announces any changes (or additions) to her tour lineup.

Were any tour dates canceled?

Taylor Swift was originally scheduled to play three Eras Tour shows from August 9 to 11, 2024, in Vienna, Austria. However, the shows were canceled after Austrian officials confirmed that multiple individuals were  arrested on suspicion of planning an attack  at one of the shows. As of August 12, no other Eras Tours performances have been canceled.

Is The Tortured Poets Department a part of the Eras Tour?

It's good news for fans of "The Tortured Poets Department," Swift's most recent album that dropped on April 19, 2024. Swift is incorporating several of the new tracks into the Eras Tour, as evidenced by the first shows of her European leg. "The Tortured Poets Department" songs currently featured on tour include "But Daddy I Love Him," "So High School," "Down Bad," "Fortnight," "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?," "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived," and "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart."

Since the Eras Tour is already pretty long, this means that Swift is also cutting down a few songs from past Eras that previously made the tour setlist. The songs that were removed from the setlist include "The Archer," "Long Live," "The 1," "The Last Great American Dynasty," "'Tis the Damn Season," and "Tolerate It."

Where can I stream The Eras Tour concert film?

If you'd rather watch The Eras Tour from home, you could always stream it on Disney+. Check out everything you need to know about streaming The Eras Tour concert film in our guide .

Swifties want to know how to get last-minute Taylor Swift 'Eras Tour' tickets.

I Got Last-Minute Taylor Swift Eras Tour Tickets & You Can Too

TikTok is helping Swifties get tickets for free!

The great war is not just a Taylor Swift song, but what Swifties have been battling ever since tickets for the Eras Tour went on sale . However, you shouldn’t give up just yet. Instead of shaking it off, there are ways to get last-minute tour tickets. I should know, because I did it.

You’ve likely seen influencers who have been to multiple concerts while checking StubHub for resale tickets , and wondering how they can afford everything. Now that Swift finished up the international leg of her tour , she’ll be making her way back to the States for a few more shows in Miami, New Orleans, and Indianapolis. As much as you’d like to go, getting tickets can be expensive on top of flights and hotel stays.

Being a Swiftie is not cheap , but there are budget-friendly — and even free! — ways to go to the Eras Tour. You just have to be willing to work for them. Below, you’ll find all the methods to getting last-minute tickets to see Taylor Swift — even some contests that will get you there for free and in style.

Taylor’s Team Is Giving Out Tickets To Swifties On TikTok

Swifties can get free tickets to Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour by posting on TikTok.

Since June, fans have been completing tasks each week to collect virtual beads from each of Swift’s eras on TikTok. It started with The Tortured Poets Department on June 20, and ends on Sept. 12 with her self-titled album, Taylor Swift.

To gain a virtual friendship bracelet bead and profile frame, you must complete the different tasks under each album. This typically includes sharing the #TSTheErasTour page with a friend, watching one of Swift’s TikToks, and then posting a video of your own with one of her songs. After finishing all tasks, you receive your bead and frame.

TikTokers are winning tickets to The Eras Tour thanks to Taylor Nation on TikTok.

On Aug. 29, Taylor Nation (Swift’s official fan club) started DMing a few lucky Swifties who completed all album-themed tasks, and awarded them with tickets to an upcoming show. TikToker @kayla.love07 is one fan who got a surprise comment from TN, and will be going to see the Eras Tour this year.

If you missed out on one of the weeks, no worries. There’s still time to complete all tasks. To begin, search #TSTheErasTour on TikTok and click the banner at the top of the page.

I Went The StubHub Route For My Eras Tour Tickets

This may be the more expensive route to secure last-minute Swift tickets, but it is the most accessible. If you’re banking on prices going down, don’t! It used to be that you could refresh Ticketmaster or StubHub for resale tickets at a decent price a few hours before a show, but that’s not necessarily the case anymore. Now, you’ll see tickets with partial views and in the worst sections that are still overpriced after a concert has started.

I got last-minute tickets to Taylor Swift's Eras Tour.

It’s a gamble you may not be willing to play. Instead, set a price range for yourself that you’d be willing to spend on tickets. The week before your show, keep refreshing sites like StubHub, SeatGeek, and even Gametime for resale tickets that are in that range. I set a price I was willing to pay before taxes and fees, and finally found one ticket while randomly checking StubHub right before bed. It can happen at any time of the day, so you have to be ready for it.

If you see something you’re willing to buy, go for it. You don’t want to be wishing you would’ve, could’ve, should’ve bought them once they’re gone. Just be mindful that certain show dates have rules on resale tickets .

Cities with a “lead booker” policy in place means those tickets are non-transferable, and the person who bought them must be present at the gate.

Ticketmaster May Drop Extra Tickets Before The Show, Too

Ticketmaster may drop last-minute tickets to the Taylor Swift Eras Tour for anyone looking in 2024.

Swifties have bad blood with Ticketmaster after it poorly handled the presale and canceled the general sale for The Eras Tour . During the first U.S. leg of the tour, the company was also magically finding last-minute tickets to shows the week of and sometimes an hour after a show started . For anyone who doesn’t mind being glued to their computer and hitting the refresh button nonstop, you may want to keep checking Ticketmaster for spontaneous drops.

Some Swifties who were selected for verified fan presale have also reported that Ticketmaster has been sending out codes at least two weeks before each show as well for additional tickets. Just remember codes are tied to each Ticketmaster account , so if it wasn’t sent to you, you may not be able to use it.

Swifties on Twitter will let other fans know when Ticketmaster drops extra tickets, so it’s best to follow different accounts and turn on your notifications. One Twitter account that has been really great about keeping Swifties informed is Eras Tour Resell ( @ErasTourResell ).

You Can Find Fellow Swifties Selling Their Tickets At Face Value

Fans attending Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour know how to get last-minute tickets through Ticketmaster...

Eras Tour Resell has been doing the lord's work helping Swifties find tickets that aren’t a scam. Through the account, sellers can list extra tickets for The Eras Tour so that other Swifties can buy them instead of scalpers. It makes sure to verify listings, and encourages everyone to buy and sell their tickets for face value. While this is probably the cheapest way to buy last-minute Swift tickets, it is incredibly difficult.

Once a ticket is verified, Eras Tour Resell will tweet out all the information and who to DM to get it. Since the account has become so popular with nearly 285K followers, you have to be ready to jump on each post as soon as it goes up. That means you need to set Twitter notifications and have your phone on you at all times. Even if you are the first person to DM the seller, it’s not a guarantee they’ll pick you. The account also prioritizes tickets for shows that week, so if you’re looking for a concert next month, you probably won’t see it for awhile.

In addition to Swiftie resale accounts, look around Twitter, Craigslist, or even put a call out on your socials for tickets from other fans. Content creator and Swiftie Francis Dominic ( @francisdominiic ) has been to at least 12 shows already. When asked by one of his followers how he’s able to go to so many, he responded, “Ticketmaster, OfferUp, Twitter, Craigslist, and IG. I exhaust all of my resources.” The only downside to random resellers is you don’t have Eras Tour Resell to verify you’re not getting ripped off.

Lucky Ones Can Enter A Contest For Eras Tour Tickets

A Swiftie got last-minute Taylor Swift Eras Tour tickets through a radio contest.

The cheapest way to snag last-minute Swift tickets is to win a contest. You’ve probably seen quite a few social media contests where you have to like, follow, and comment on an IG post in order to win tickets. While you may think the odds aren’t in your favor, there is still a chance.

Anna Tegarden ( @taylormermaidcat ) won tickets to one of Swift’s shows in Tampa, which is how she was able to see all three nights of the Eras Tour in Florida. Tegarden shares with Elite Daily, “I’m constantly entering contests and trying to win tickets. I’ll read the fine print to see if it’s an enter daily contest, or just a one-time entry.” She won her tickets through a radio contest where she had to call into a station after hearing two Swift songs in a row.

Win Tickets To Through Marriott Bonvoy, Capital One, & More

Fans can win tickets to the Taylor Swift in Miami to see 'The Tortured Poets Department' live.

For Swift’s Oct. 20 show in Miami, the Brightline train has a contest that will get you to “the big concert” in musical style. Now through Sept. 20, fans can enter to win two tickets to the Eras Tour at Hard Rock Stadium and round trip transportation on a sing-along Swift-inspired karaoke train from Orlando, Florida. You’ll also receive complimentary food and drinks from Mary Mary Bar.

All you need to do to win is be 18 years and older, follow @gobrightline on Instagram, and sign the safety pledge before Sept. 20.

Fans can see Taylor Swift at The Eras Tour thanks to Marriott Bonvoy sweepstakes.

If you’ve got plans to attend another one of Swift’s upcoming North American concerts, Marriott Bonvoy may be your best bet. Its “Where Can We Take You?” concert package gets you two tickets to see the Eras Tour in select cities, along with a welcome gift. Entry periods vary depending on which show you’d like to attend, and includes the following dates:

  • Indianapolis, IN November 1-3 — entry period closes Sept. 4
  • Toronto, ON Canada November 14-16 & 21-23 — entry period closes Sept. 8
  • Vancouver, BC Canada December 6-8 — entry period closes Oct. 9

Marriott Bonvoy also has the Vancouver Ultimate Concert Experience sweepstakes that gets one lucky Swiftie a four-day/three-night trip for two to one of Swift’s Vancouver shows, along with travel, hotel accommodations, concert tickets, and a welcome gift. The entry period for that closes on Oct. 9, and for all Marriott Bonvoy packages you need to enter by becoming a member and creating an account.

Swifties have to work to find last-minutes Eras Tour tickets to see Taylor Swift in 2024.

With all these methods, finding a ticket to the Eras Tour is like a part-time job. You have to be willing to work hard, keep your phone with you at all times, and always be on the lookout. If you really want to scream-sing the bridge to “Cruel Summer,” admire Swift twirling in her folklore dress, and be there as she plays your fave song during the surprise acoustic set , let the ticket games begin.

Taylor Swift, a Berks County native, ignited a prepared Pa. base when she endorsed Kamala Harris

The impact of Swift’s fandom is poised to grow — especially in the key battleground state where the singer was born.

Annie Wu Henry, campaign manager for Swifties for Kamala at her home in Fishtown on Thursday, September 12, 2024.

Swifties had already begun organizing for Vice President Kamala Harris en masse before their “ Fearless ” leader’s endorsement on Tuesday. Now their impact is poised to grow — especially in the key battleground state where singer Taylor Swift was born.

Already, Swift loyalists have raised tens of thousands of dollars for Harris’ campaign and voter registration efforts, and, following the musician’s Instagram post Tuesday endorsing Harris, hundreds of thousands of people visited a voter registration website.

Embracing the strong bond that comes with their fandom, Swifties are well-positioned to make an impact in Pennsylvania, a critical swing state that former President Donald Trump and Harris both see as crucial for their paths to the White House. Swifties are multigenerational, but they skew younger — a voting bloc particularly important for a Democratic win that both candidates have their eyes on.

Michele Ramsey, who teaches a class about Taylor Swif t at Pennsylvania State University’s Berks County campus , said the biggest impact of Swift’s endorsement isn’t necessarily changing people’s views, but rather garnering engagement and registration, as demonstrated by Swift’s endorsement post prompting more than 400,00 visitors to vote.gov within 24 hours. Ramsey, 56, said that Swift’s (at least appearance of) authenticity is key, and multiple Swifties said they appreciated her focus on people doing their own research in her announcement, which has garnered over 10 million likes on Instagram.

Ramsey, of Reading, also thinks attacks on women’s rights from the Republican Party and a post by conservative tycoon Elon Musk that has been painted as creepy are only motivating Democratic-leaning Swifties more during a moment in pop culture where “women’s stories are central to popular culture,” a la Swift, Beyoncé, Chappell Roan, and the like.

“It feels like a really bad time to poke the Swiftie bear, but they’re doing it,” Ramsey said. “They have a very strong parasocial relationship with Taylor,” she added of Swifties.

Swifties for Kamala

One group of Swifties formed immediately after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race and endorsed Harris: Swifties for Kamala (S4K). The group is entirely run by volunteers, including Philadelphia-based digital mastermind Annie Wu Henry, a political and digital strategist working as the group’s campaign manager. Henry has previously worked for Sen. John Fetterman (D., Pa.) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D., N.Y.).

The group’s inaugural Zoom call boasted guest speakers including singer-songwriter Carole King, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.), Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D., N.Y.), and Pennsylvania’s own Swiftie Rep. Chris Deluzio , a Pittsburgh-area Democrat. More than 20,000 people tuned in.

“We are abundantly aware of how important Pennsylvania is in this election cycle,” said Henry, who grew up in Central Pennsylvania.

Though she was tight-lipped on state-specific plans, she said the group will ensure it will “activate the community” to mobilize in the commonwealth.

But the group has already shown an impact, and Pennsylvanians are playing a larger role than Swifties in other swing states.

The group has tallied nearly 100,000 “actions,” which it classifies as checking your registration, registering to vote, or making a voting plan, Henry said.

Nearly 80% of those 100,000 actions were completed by Gen Z and millennial voters, according to Henry. And of those actions, 33% were in swing states, including more than 7% in Pennsylvania, the highest rate among those states.

In a Discord group chat of more than 3,500 Swifties, S4K has identified more than 185 who live in Pennsylvania.

S4K has raised nearly $165,000 for the Harris campaign through ActBlue and more than $13,000 for voter outreach and registration groups through the group’s merchandise sales. S4K also has more than 7,000 e-mail newsletter subscribers.

The group’s efforts are for Swifties, by Swifties. Its custom merch was designed by a Swiftie and is sold through Social Goods, whose founders are part of the fandom.

The group incentivizes its members to get electorally engaged through a sweepstakes to win tickets to Swift’s Eras Tour through Fan Out, a company also created by a Swiftie. People get entries by getting their friends to check their voter registration and create voting plans, and more entries if they’re in a swing state.

Morgan Strehlow, a literary agent who runs the S4K Threads account, said she has been impressed by young fans taking the reins of the movement, most of whom are in their 20s, with a few in their 30s. Strehlow, 34, copyedited a mission statement that was drafted by college students when she first got involved.

“Since then, a lot of really, really impressive people have gotten involved,” she said.

Strehlow believes that the group’s ability to weave Swift references into election discourse makes politics more accessible. For example, she’s been able to break the ice by discussing political themes in Swift’s songs with her younger sister, a fellow Swiftie whom she typically wouldn’t discuss politics with.

“It’s given me a comfortable door to walk into that conversation with someone in my life who it’d be hard to otherwise,” she said.

The ‘endorsement snapped me out of it’

Bryn Mawr resident Lisa Green, 23, who works as an officiant and matchmaker, said Swift’s endorsement inspired her to share her political views online again. Green was an outspoken politically involved teenager, but she closed off in 2020, afraid to speak out among rising polarization.

“That endorsement kind of snapped me out of it,” she said.

Green said she sees a lot of similarities between Harris and Swift.

“They both just make me feel so empowered as a woman, and they both uplift community, and uplift friendship and compassion,” she said, adding that they both make her feel like her beliefs “are worthy of being proud of and standing up for.”

Other Swifties have flocked together in Pennsylvania, like Katie Lehatto-Kopcik, 43, who created a Facebook group for Berks County Swiftie Harris supporters. The Sinking Spring resident just started the group with a few of her friends, and now it has 368 members (though not all are Pennsylvania residents). She described the group as a small community for sharing ideas, joys, and frustrations.

“I’m a nurse, I’m a mom. I don’t know what I’m doing,” she said. “I just put this together, and people just started reaching out.”

A local Democratic leader saw the group, and now the Swiftie is a local Democratic committee member. She shares local events with members of the group, like a friendship bracelet -making event organized by the Democratic Party to support U.S. Rep. Chrissy Houlahan and Harris.

“We don’t all attend everything, but we all attend something,” she said.

Gena Jaffe, a business owner and lawyer who lives in Newtown, hung up a Swifties for Kamala yard sign in her Bucks County neighborhood, which is otherwise full of Trump signs. Jaffe, 39, took it upon herself to plan a comedy show fundraiser for Harris, which featured also Harris-themed Swiftie-style friendship bracelets. Though she’s too busy to plan another, she said the last-minute plan brought 40 people together and raised more than $2,000 for the Harris campaign.

For some, mixed emotions

Swift’s endorsement caused whiplash for some supporters, particularly in the queer community, who felt betrayed by photos of her embracing former soccer player Brittany Mahomes, who went viral for “liking” Trump’s platform on Instagram and has been praised by Trump as a “big MAGA fan.”

Sophia Schiaroli, 25, a Philly-based LGBTQ content creator and Swiftie, felt bittersweet about Swift’s endorsement.

“I’m ecstatic and so over the moon that she endorsed Kamala, but I’m not going to forget how it felt when she remained silent for so long and remains silent on so many issues that she has the voice to speak on,” Schiaroli said on her Instagram story on Wednesday.

Some figured that Swift was waiting for the European leg of her Eras tour to conclude after a terroristic threat was directed at her concert.

Schiaroli attended a Harris campaign watch party on Cherry Street Pier on debate night — the same one that Harris dropped in on for a surprise appearance . Also in attendance was Bridget McFadden, 29, a Philly-based content creator who focuses on comedy and Taylor Swift content.

They both posted about Swift’s endorsement with excitement Tuesday night. Harris’ campaign also embraced it, playing Swift’s “The Man” as she walked off the stage and releasing Swiftie-style friendship bracelets in a flurry.

McFadden has previously posted a video with Gov. Josh Shapiro asking him if he prefers Beyoncé or Swift. Seemingly paralyzed by the decision, he went with Swift, who is from Berks County. Shapiro lauded the singer’s endorsement this week, telling NewsNation that he’s in his “Speak Now era” and that “her speaking out is a big darn deal.”

McFadden thinks it’s easy to connect Swift’s fandom with Harris because the West Reading native has “always been an advocate for women’s rights and being a strong woman,” she said. She said some of Swift’s music, and the Eras tour in itself, is “just very girl power.”

“You can feel that, and I think that it just very much aligns with like — it’s time. We need, we want, a woman in the office now,” McFadden said.

She suggested listening to “Only the Young,” one of Swift’s most political songs.

Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly referred to visits to a voter registration website as voter registrations. Following the musician’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris, hundreds of thousands of people visited a voter registration website.
