If you’re a traveler, you probably love travel quotes for these very reasons.

As two people who’ve dedicated our marriage thus far to exploring the world together, couples travel quotes hold a special place in our hearts. (And as two people trying to put our experiences into words, well, sometimes it’s best to leave it to the experts!)

We’ve read a lot of quotes about love and travel, and these are a few (well, many) of our favorites. Whether you need inspiration for your wedding vows or some couple travel captions for Instagram , one of these quotes might be just what you’re looking for.

Traveling as a couple is a lot different than traveling solo.  You may share a house, finances, and day to day life, but when it comes to escaping your daily routines for a vacation, that doesn’t mean it’s going to always be a smooth and romantic ride.

In fact, “it can be a notoriously treacherous experience, fraught with stress, arguments, and differing opinions on hygiene, packing, and how much it’s reasonable to pay for cuddling an orangutan.” – JR Thorpe .

But there is so much magic in traveling as a couple if you can get through the trip without getting on each others nerves. And after having traveled RTW with Star Alliance this month, we’ve put together tips and advice to increase your chances of a successful trip.

Financing the Trip

Before getting on the plane make damn sure you and your partner are on the same page about finances . Nothing causes more quarrels than the issue of money.

Make sure you have discussed some kind of a budget which includes the costs for transportation, food, lodging, activities, and souvenirs. Stick to a set amount and allocate funds for each part of your trip to avoid surprise purchases that may cause a fight.

Picking a Destination

When it comes to picking a destination, one of the biggest tips for couples traveling is that coming to a compromise on a place where you both can find enjoyment is key.

That said, our advice is to also remember how you acted at the beginning of your relationship. Did it really matter where you went on a date, or was it simply spending time together which was the mission?

Any destination you chose can be made extraordinary if you try and remember the main fact that you are experiencing that destination with your best friend, or the one you fell in love with.

Transportation

Although being stuck in close proximity to your other half for long periods of time may be required, don’t waste this opportunity. You’ve got the time, so spend it talking to each other.

You would be surprised the things you can learn about each other even after years of having been together. Take this time to talk as though you are just beginning to date, speaking of your past and things you may have not yet shared with each other.

Do NOT bring up anything work related or anything dealing with daily life. This trip is a break from reality. Traveling as a couple also has the perks of shared driving if you are on a road trip, or having someone’s shoulder to lay on during a flight … a situation much more awkward if you were to try it with a stranger.

Pro Tip:  When choosing seats on a plane, choose seats in the very back of the flight. These seats usually fill up last, and that aisle of three may be all yours to share between the two of you.

 Managing Stress

The biggest thing that can ruin a trip is fighting, and many fights are simply caused by the stresses of traveling itself.

Go into every trip with an open mind and realize that most of your best laid plans will probably not go perfectly. Be ready for that plan B. Again, try to remember back to when you were first dating and were on your best behavior. There is no excuse for not continuing that good behavior.

Make a pact to ditch the blame game. And if you are getting angry, ask yourself if it’s because you’re tired, hungry, or both. It’s inevitable that one of you will screw up at some point along the way, but it’s bound to happen, so focus on dealing with the issue instead of making each other feel bad.

Pro Tip: Don’t try to cram too much into your daily itinerary as things always take longer than expected and trying to make it in time for numerous reservations will only add stress.

Although technology has made traveling so much easier these days , remember that your trip together should be an escape from reality and not a time to conduct business or talk with family. They can talk to you when you get back.

Use of laptops and smart phones can be a wealth of knowledge when it comes to finding nearby attractions while traveling, but limit their use so you can actually enjoy the present moment.

Fight the urge to share your daily happenings while traveling via Facebook, Twitter, and blogs (guilty!). Remember, the more time you spend typing away, the less time you are living your travels, and you’re only limiting the stories you will have to share when you get back.

You Don’t Have to be Joined at the Hip

As much as you may love someone, being around them 24/7 is bound to put a strain on your relationship at some stage. But you don’t need to do everything together, and you don’t have to be joined at the hip.

It’s absolutely ok, healthy even, to give each other some space and alone time while away. Whether that means heading out on an an activity or tour the other person doesn’t want to do, or taking a walk on your own, it’s important to give each other space.

Travelling with your spouse can be the best experience because you’re so in sync with each other. But being together 24X7 for several days..there are occasions when you can get on each others’ nerves too. Great tips. Great post.

Doing it just created chaos for me on one of my trips. It was a short visit so I planned so much into the itinerary that I was literally running late to each tour. Actually lost out on two of them. I have learned my lesson.

Excellent tips for travelling with a partner. A vacation is a great time to reconnect, but I agree that you don’t have to be joined at the hip 24/7. It is nice to have time apart to visit the spa, go for a run, etc. Once we began travelling with kids, this alone time became even more precious!

I’m forever single, so I won’t be able to make use of these tips yet haha but these are great for traveling couples! I didn’t know that the back of aeroplanes fill up last, that’s a really useful bit of info ! The back of aeroplanes filling up last is also a tip I use during solo trips – sometimes it works amazingly and you end up with the whole row to yourself! Other times other passengers try the same thing and you have to share. It’s hit or miss when you’re traveling solo, but usually as a couple you get the extra seat if the plane’s not sold out :)

Traveling together as a couple can be challenging to say the least. My partner and I travel together a lot. The most stressful is the actual travel to and from the destination. We are both typically tired, hungry and cranky; however, we have come to expect that we will be irritated with each other from time to time, and that helps to avoid any serious fights. All the tips above are great advice. Making sure to keep stress down is key. Making a conscious effort to make your partner feel special will also go a long way.

Travel is one of those situations where stress is probably going to factor in at some point, but I think knowing how to deal with it, and having a plan in place so that you don’t take it out on each other really goes a long way :) As you said, expecting that you’re going to be irritated with each other at some point in time, so knowing not to let it spiral into something more serious. Great tips! My husband and I have the opportunity to go on a 2-3 week trip this summer while our two girls are visiting Grandparents. While my husband is retired, I recently had to quit my job (for various reasons, biggest was not being paid for 6 weeks) anywhoo, Money is tighter than it was previously. He has promised me for years he’d take me to Italy, after he went backpacking with his brother there. So we thought this was the year. But thinking about the trip I want, and the money available, we decided a road trip to Niagra Falls and Boston was much better suited to our finances. We’ll splurge on a nice hotel here and there, maybe a bed and breakfast somewhere, but other wise, it’s cheap hotels and some good ole’ sight seeing. One tip I would add, Have adequate music. Take more than you think, and switch back and forth. If you love country (like me) and your spouse likes industrial rock (my hubby) taking a break from both after 1 album seems to do the trick. Or since I end up falling asleep 90% of the time, HE needs more music than I do. So plan accordingly!

I am in my 60s and my husband is in his 70s. We’ve been traveling sporadically psince we married 25 years ago. My best advice is to not wait till you are retired to travel! Also consider how your traveling may change as you age. In our first years traveling together, the sky was the limit in terms of our choices. My husband now has some physical and mental conditions that limit what we do. We still travel, but activities are more sedate, we take more time to smell the roses and we try to prepare for the unexpected. We tend to use tour groups more, stay longer in each place than before and consider access to health care. I find I must now handle all of the packing and arrangements vs. sharing the responsibilities but it is worth it. Accepting the changes and planning accordingly makes all the difference in how much we enjoy the experience.

7 Ultimate Ways to Travel with Your Partner for the First Time

After years of traveling solo, I finally got a chance to travel with my beau. And here's a warning, there are some adjustments that you need to make when you travel with your partner for the first time, especially when you get so used to being a solo traveler !

So far, I've spent a month and a half traveling with my partner in total. It's not a full-time travel, since my boyfriend works 9-to-5 , but we managed to be together for a month in Southeast Asia without killing each other and a short trip around Turkey (also known as Turkiye) recently seems to make us long for our next journey to travel together as a couple.

In this post, I'm going to share some ways to travel with your partner, based on what works for me and my beau. So, here are some tips for traveling as couple travelers for the first time!

How to Travel with Your Partner for the First Time

Traveling with your partner can be a make-or-break in your relationship, because I believe traveling will eventually reveal your true color as an individual that you may find either the red flags or the reason for you to lean on to them when things go wrong.

For me, traveling is the only way for me to even be with my boyfriend in the first place since we've been in a long-distance relationship for almost one year now. Just like probably every couple who started planning to travel together, we were both nervous that we were going to end up killing each other on the trip. Thankfully, it didn't happen so here are some things that I think work when it comes to traveling together as a couple!

1. Be transparent about your traveling style

Before planning a trip together, be clear about your traveling style and preference so that you can anticipate what could possibly become a problem when you travel together. It will probably be easier if you occasionally travel before, so you get the hunch on what you like and what you don't when you explore a new place on your own or with a partner.

In my case, I know I'm not one for a fixed itinerary. I like to travel slowly and explore to see what I really want to see about the place. I'm quite price-sensitive when it comes to accommodation , so I tend to focus more on affordability and comfort. The same goes for meals, as my Southeast Asian gene isn't really fussy about hygiene that I could almost eat anything without having a problem when I travel.

My boyfriend is pretty much the opposite in a way, as he'd rather list all the places he wants to see each day, although he's quite flexible on whether we can visit everything on the list that day. He prefers comfort because he thinks that's the point of being on holiday, on top of that he's also a picky eater so while he's up to trying new food, his stomach might not respond to it the same way as I do.

When you know what's the deal with your partner, you tend to be more prepared on D-day and it will also help you find the common ground on what you want to do or where you want to go.

Communication is the key, so talk it out and see how you can manage all these differences in your traveling style. Trust me on this, the communication during the travel planning will definitely trigger your instinct whether your first trip as a couple will be a success!

2. Be prepared to compromise

So you know how compromise is the key to any kind of relationship. Well, so is it when you plan to travel together with your partner.

Love needs some kind of sacrifice, and that's the truth. And if it's to compromise and adjust your thing to theirs, then so be it. In my case, I tend to be more careful about picking the place to eat when we travel, though in the end, my boyfriend ended up getting diarrhea anyway when he got home. Which I find weird, because he was just fine when we were together and as soon as he got home, he literally had to get some additional sick days for almost two weeks.

Since I told my boyfriend that I'm price-sensitive when it comes to choosing accommodation, he compromises to pay the bigger cut for accommodation so we can afford the place that he prefers as long as we stay on a budget.

Just like any relationship in general, in order to make it work, you need to work as a team to cater to each other's needs. Be ready to compromise, because if there's anything I've learned from traveling with my beau in the past few months, some people are just worth compromising for.

3. Respect each other's space

My partner and I are introverts, so having our own space is important for us respectively, and we try to respect each other's space despite being together for the whole trip. On our first trip together, we booked an apartment with two separate bedrooms just to make sure that we had our own space whenever needed. Not to mention that I occasionally still have to work in between our travel.

Some hotel rooms that we stayed in also come with twin beds, although we mostly booked rooms with a double bed. I mean, come on… What's the point of traveling together as a couple if you can't have the intimacy you deserve after a long day of traveling, right? 😛

When we traveled, we never really argued about anything. Maybe once or twice when we were in a really bad mood. But it was never too long. More often than not, it was also because we still got our own space to cool down despite being together 24/7 on our trip.

4. Split responsibilities and make them accessible to everyone so you can hold each other accountable

Relationship is all about teamwork, and planning a trip together as a couple is no different. Split the responsibilities, and hold each other accountable so that instead of micromanaging every move, you can give each other feedback on how to make the trip easier and more fun for everyone.

As we have to plan our trip online since we're in a long-distance relationship to begin with, we take advantage of the vast technology there is to plan a trip for us.

We usually create a Google Sheet and make it accessible for both of us. We always make three sheets on the Google Sheet and label them accordingly: Marya (me), Sam (my boyfriend), and Us.

My responsibility is to usually list the accommodation where we're going to stay as well as the pros and cons for each accommodation, while my boyfriend's responsibility is to usually do some research on where to go or what to do in our destination.

We'll give each other heads up when we update the sheet, so when we have a video date, we will brainstorm the best way to visualize our trip before adding the list in the sheet that's labeled “Us.” We usually fill the latter when we both agree about things so we have all the information needed for our trip there, before finally making the final draft of our itinerary for each day of our trip together as a couple.

In terms of money, we also use the TravelSpend app to track our expenses so it will be easier for us to settle our “travelimony”, basically the money we owe each other after our travel. LOL. As we both use Wise , we can also transfer money easily for all the transactions needed for our travel.

I think it's a great way to make sure that each one of us has a say on things before we decide anything, and I think that it's also fundamental to contribute to making sure that the first time you travel with your partner will be a success!

5. Make time to socialize with other people

If there's anything I've learned about having some secret, toxic relationships in the past, it is that you can never know the true person behind your partner until you're going out publicly as a couple in front of other people, sometimes strangers.

So, while being on a romantic vacation seems like a great way to spice up your relationship, remember that this is not your honeymoon… At least not yet. So, instead of focusing on quality time just the two of you, make time to socialize with other people, be it with your friends or even new people.

When we were in Chiang Rai , we decided to join a Thai cooking class where we could connect with new people so we wouldn't get stuck being with each other as an item. We also managed to get on a double date with my university friend in my hometown, and we had our first Couchsurfing experience together when we met Ali in Canakkale, Turkiye , recently.

I think socializing with other people will also test your relationship in a good way, because you'll know your partner's character more when you don't stay inside your own bubble during your whole travel.

6. Add a lazy day to just stay in and do nothing

After all traveling and socializing, it's important to spare some time to unwind and do nothing even during your trip. Plan a lazy day to stay in, so you can enjoy each other's presence more than just exploring a new place together.

On this day, it will be a free day for both of us so you don't even have to go out if you don't want to. Maybe it's time to dive deep into Netflix and chill on this day, or you can plan a day to make a romantic dinner just the two of you. Cook together if you can, if not you can also take advantage of UberEat or anything alike in your destination.

I genuinely believe that the best kind of quality time is when you can be alone together without any pressure, possibly doing random stuff. Or maybe it's just an introvert in me.

7. Start creating memories together

Last but not least, don't overthink it. Planning is the key, but overthinking the possible result of traveling with your partner for the first time will only stop yourself from starting to create memories and exploring the world together.

Be open to new things that you can do together, because as much as I love traveling solo, I realized there are things I miss out on when I travel solo. For instance, I can get a much better accommodation for a lower price as I split the cost with my partner.

And while my boyfriend isn't exactly someone who could take Instagram-worthy pics, he's actually the one who would go post the pics on his Facebook so my mom could lurk in once in a while about what we do and where we go.

After falling sick while traveling solo and getting my wallet stolen , I know how comforting it is to have someone else beside you when you travel, so I'm glad that I've finally got someone with whom I could share my travel memories together!

In this section, I'm going to answer a few frequently asked questions about traveling as a couple and traveling with your partner, so you can see how it is from my perspective and whether it's your cup of tea. So, here we go!

Is traveling with your partner a good idea when you're not married?

Traveling with your partner before marriage is frowned upon, especially if you come from a strong religious community. However, I see more benefits than downsides when traveling as couple travelers.

First of all, traveling together can reveal your compatibility as a partner as well as an individual. It exposes you to new things that you need to overcome, together and respectively. It brings out your strength and weakness as a unit, in which you can portray how you could live with them in the future and whether there are some icks that you may need to communicate before taking your relationship into the next step.

I know reading map is my weakness, and I'm glad that my boyfriend, despite being slightly dyslexic, he's actually better at reading maps than I am. While traveling together, we also slowly learned to manage finance together so if we ever get married one day, we'll get used to it in a way.

All and all, I definitely recommend traveling with your boyfriend or girlfriend once in a while because not only will it give you the opportunity to get away from your typical routine in a new destination, it can potentially make your relationship stronger than ever.

How long should you date before traveling together as a couple?

It may vary for everyone, but I would suggest not traveling together too soon as a couple. I mean, some people made it to travel as a couple as soon as they met, but like I said before, traveling with your partner can be a make-or-break for your relationship so it's better to give some time to make sure that you know your partner as an individual.

My first trip with my ex was a bit too soon as I traveled with him when we only knew each other for a month, and it didn't end well.

My boyfriend and I only started the idea of traveling together eventually on the second month since we started talking to each other, and then when he calculated the soonest time he could take a long leave from his work, he said it could only be around five months from then. So we managed to get to know each other during that period, and we kinda expect what will happen when we travel together.

In my case, I'm happy with the result and I think before anything else, having a strong connection with your partner is the one that you need the most before deciding to travel together as a couple.

Who pays for the trip when you travel together as a couple?

Finance is a sensitive topic as a couple, but it's important to talk about it. So the best way to do it is to communicate with your partner about how you settle your travel finance fairly.

Again, it may vary for everyone because some people may be able to fund all the trips for two people, while others may split the costs based on their agreement as a couple. Whichever that is, there is no right or wrong for this question because it all depends on how you communicate with your partner.

It's also another reason why I would encourage couples to travel together. Because you're forced to be transparent about finance and all the sensitive issues that have the tendency to showcase their vulnerability. I mean, it's a bit hard to talk about my finances with other people, but I'm glad I can be honest with my boyfriend.

However you think the best to split the cost, it'll definitely encourage teamwork between the two of you. So, be ready for it and see how you can thrive together as a couple traveling together!

We start this list with one of my favorite travel with friends quotes because lets be honest, what do you need more in life than a good friend and a great adventure?

Our adventures brought us already to all 7 continents. One of the most memorable adventures we experienced was our cruise to Antarctica.   This is a continent that cannot be compared with anything else. 

But we also have great memories of our travels to Japan , Korea , and Borneo.

Although we’re not keen on organized tours or any other form of mass tourism, except the occasional cruise to spoil ourselves, we are no hermits. 

We love to socialize and we always have a great time when we meet locals or other travelers during our trips.

With social networks like Facebook, it’s easier than ever to stay in touch after your trip.

The locals were very sociable in the Azores but in bigger cities, it is often not as easy to make a connection.

This is one of my favorite best friend quotes. Nothing is better for friendship than making shared memories. 

It doesn’t necessarily need to be a long vacation.  You can just take your best friend on a city trip.  It will create a lifelong bond and years later you will still exchange great memories of your adventures together.

I do not fully agree with this traveling with this enjoying with friends quote. 

If you do not have the same idea about a vacation, it can sometimes be very disappointing to go on a trip with a friend.

Even to such an extent that this can put pressure on your friendship afterward.

So when you plan to go on a trip with friends, make good arrangements in advance about what you expect from the trip.

Good agreements make good friends and it will avoid that you or your friend will be disappointed and the dream journey turns into a nightmare.

7. “Sharing adventures means enjoying them 100% more.”

Everything is more fun in life if you can share it.

This is even psychologically proven. You’re more emotionally touched by the things you experience when a friend is going through the same experience.

All humans love to share their experiences. 

Ideally, with a friend who is traveling with you but it also explains why we love to share so many pictures of our trips on Instagram and Facebook.

This is supposed to be an African proverb but it’s not sure in what context it was originally used. 

Today it is often used in a business context referring to successful companies that are the result of true teamwork.

It does apply to travel as well. 

I don’t mind traveling solo if it’s just for a few days and my itinerary is jam-packed for each and every minute. 

I’m however reluctant to leave on a long trip without any friends. 

I think loneliness would start to creep in really fast.

13. “When traveling life’s journey, it’s good to have a friend’s hand to hold on to.” 

Life is not always perfect, inevitable you will encounter some bumps in the roads.

It’s good to have a friend by your side. 

Not only for the setbacks but also during the good times.

I just laughed when I read this quote and at the same time asked myself whether my best friends would think so too.

This is a great attitude that I absolutely agree with and try to apply daily.

This is so true.  The world is such an intriguing and complex environment.  When we are young we have our parents to guide us but then there comes a point when we’re on our own.

Even though everybody wants to be independent there’re always moments when you need to rely on somebody else.  Sometimes we are just looking for some good advice, at other times we need some help.

This is especially true when you’re abroad in a country you don’t know with a language you don’t speak. 

We traveled independently through China and we must agree that we underestimated how challenging this would be.  We often were completely helpless.  There were no English-speaking ticket offices in the train stations and to our surprise we didn’t meet that many people who spoke English during our trip.  

But those people who spoke English really did anything they possibly could to help us.  They never took advantage of us, they never asked anything in return. 

They just seemed happy to help us.

They acted as an honest friend and that’s something I will never forget about our trip.

If there’s one thing that I learned from my trips it is that most people are helpful and will be happy to help if they can.  This is how we are born. 

Unfortunately, some people make abuse of this and we become cautious.  When a stranger asks us for help we sometimes tend to make something of it. It’s a pity that our helpful attitude is challenged by the abuse of a few.

If we could set our fear aside we would be able to make more friends.

This is a little too good to be true but the proverb is absolutely true.  We should make the best of each and every other day.  

That means that we should spend our time on things that make us happy and that we should surround ourselves with people that make us better.

Sometimes you just need that little push.

Although I’m always looking forward to a new adventure I notice how I sometimes postpone the booking. 

And the more I postpone it the bigger the resistance becomes to finally take the step.

That’s why I’m so happy with my friends who are always ready to join me on my next adventures.  

Afterward, I always wonder why I was so reluctant at first because it always turned out to be so much fun.  And it is of course always so much more fun with your friends around.

This is certainly true, or at least 99% of the cases.  I personally only had great experiences during the trips with my friends and so does my husband.

This traveling with friends quote reminds me of a lot of a story we experienced when we were traveling through Vietnam a few years ago. 

We were hiking and accompanied by a local tribe that didn’t speak English.

Suddenly one of our fellow hikers slipped out in the mud and she desperately tried not to fall. It was really funny to see how she alternately was gliding forward and backward.

Once she had regained her balance everybody started laughing including the ladies of the local tribe. 

This really shows how all people are the same and even when we come from completely different backgrounds, and we don’t speak the same language, we still have more in common than we think.

This event even broke the ice. 

Before this happened we had no contact with the local tribe but when we continued onward we were helping each other to cross the muddy parts and we tried to do some basic conversation.

How to travel with friends – without falling out

Travelling together offers friends the chance to enjoy quality time awash with in-jokes, proper catch-ups and unforgettable experiences. Sound like bliss? It can be. But beware: even the best of friendships can be tested on the road.

Whether you’re about to embark on your first adventure with your mates in tow or are looking to improve on past experiences, here are writer Emma Sparks' 10 tips for having a harmonious trip with friends.

Beginners: start on the right foot

1. choose the right people to go with.

Pick any old pal with a passport at your peril. Just because you share a love of Nicolas Cage movies and Chinese food doesn’t mean you’re compatible travel buddies. Think twice before travelling with someone you only ever see in one context; your coffee-and-cake companion, yoga chum or work bestie might be a dream to hang out with at home, but a nightmare when it comes to exploring somewhere new. Opt for someone you’re confident you could tolerate for three days straight and you should have a reasonably hiccup-free trip – but there are no guarantees.

2. Set expectations

Is this trip about winding down and going with the flow, or ticking off a list of sights the length of your arm? Will it be action-packed and outdoorsy, or heavy on the hangovers? It’s easy to make assumptions about your friends’ vision for a trip based on their usual behaviour, but travel can bring with it a different set of priorities and reveal a totally different side of people. Night owl travelling with early birds or vice versa? Proceed with caution – or agree to adjust your body clocks accordingly. Verbalise your needs: a simple conversation about what each of you wants to get out of the holiday – and what you don’t want to do – should do the trick.

3. Discuss your budget

You probably have an idea of how flash or frugal your friends are, but it’s worth chatting about what you intend to spend on food and activities before you go. In situ, manage money sensitively – some people are happy to split the bill every time, while others will find subsidising your dessert addiction stressful. Keep a tally in a group budgeting app like Splitwise if you like, but don’t sweat the small stuff – no-one likes a penny-pincher.

4. Prepare for close quarters

If you’re sharing accommodation, prepare to learn a lot more about your mates. Sleeping habits, bathroom routines and kitchen cleanliness (or lack thereof) can all cause friction between friends. Years of sharing rooms with incessant snorers, shower hoggers and the occasional gleeful farter have taught me that the best way to overcome small irritations is to make light of them – no doubt you have your own shortcomings too – and always pack earplugs...

Intermediate: avoid common pitfalls

5. hanger and fatigue.

The needs of travelling adults often mirror those of a two year old’s. If someone’s acting moody, chances are they’re hungry or overtired. Punctuate sightseeing with plenty of pit stops and snacks, or work siestas into your holiday routine to keep the peace.

6. Too much time together

Find yourself lingering in the loo, or volunteering to pop to the shops for the milk and a few precious minutes by yourself? Don’t feel bad about taking some time away from each other. Introverts in particular often need plenty of alone time to avoid burnout – but splitting up for a few hours here and there can refresh and revive everyone. 

7. Lack of flexibility

Travelling with friends is a masterclass in the art of the compromise. When Friend A is laser-focused on finding a tabbacheria for their strictly-on-holiday smokes, Friend B wants nothing more than an Aperol spritz and a sit down, and you want to get to the top local landmark before it closes, something has to give. If it isn’t essential to you, let it go – but don’t let dominant or demanding personalities get their way every time. If you’re lucky, everyone’s wants and needs can be met with some tactical shuffling of schedules.

8. Overenthusiasm

The weeks and months ahead of a trip can be saturated with hope and high expectations, excited text messages and squeals of anticipation. So much so that by the time you board the plane, you’re already exhausted. Then, in the face of adversity – a disappointing Airbnb, bad weather or mosquito invasions – one friend may appoint themselves as a hype man, ignoring glaring issues and refusing to let anyone whinge. While positivity is a lifesaver on group trips, you can still keep it real. It’s OK if things aren’t perfect, so don’t put pressure on yourself or each other to have the best time ever – go with the flow and it will happen naturally.

Advanced: be your best self

9. forgive (and apologise) quickly.

An intense dose of togetherness coupled with new, sometimes challenging experiences means minor niggles are almost inevitable. Left to fester, resentment and pettiness can thrive. Unresolved tension is a sure-fire way to spoil a trip, so be honest about the way you’re feeling. If anyone gets snappy, forgive and forget immediately – and always apologise if you’re the grump of the group.

10. Be considerate and self aware

When it comes to maintaining a good group dynamic, basic courtesies go a long way – and taking extra care of each other (without fussing) will give you the warm and fuzzies. Make sure you’ve got the fundamentals covered, such as doing your fair share of washing up and collecting the morning croissants, then go the extra mile by keeping tabs on hydration levels and sunscreen top ups, or volunteering to drive.

European airline announces annual ‘all you can fly’ pass.

For some it’s the dream: a flight pass around Europe and the Mediterranean.

For others, of course, it’s an ecological nightmare.

Wizz Air’s new All You Can Fly pass will allow unlimited flights for pass holders for a year, starting September 25, for as little as 499 euros ($549).

That’s the price if bought today before midnight in Hungary, where the airline is based. After that, the price goes up to 599 euros ($660).

If the price sounds too good to be true, that’s because, for many people, it will be. For some, however, it’ll be just the ticket – literally.

Flights can only be booked within 72 hours of travel, so it’s best for frequent flyers who can move at the last minute. And they can only be booked as one-way fares – meaning that most people will have to book an outbound flight without knowing when exactly it will be possible to return.

It’s not really possible to book one leg and cancel if another doesn’t appear, either – cancel three times and your pass will be canceled.

The pass is also set to renew automatically – so you’ll need to cancel it if you don’t want to continue.

So what do you get? Unlimited flights – up to three in a day – for the year. For each you’ll pay a flat fee of 9.99 euros ($11) per segment.

This is the bare-bones ticket – if you want to add luggage, seating assignments, or priority boarding (which allows you a roll-on carry-on bag) you will have to pay extra. Bags routinely cost around 50 euros per segment.

The pass covers the whole Wizz Air network, which covers much of Europe, the Mediterranean and even the Middle East. Only domestic flights within Italy are not covered.

Members must supply a preferred departure airport, from which most of your flights are likely to leave. Most of these have already sold out, with departures from mainly central eastern Europe and Norway left. Not all flights need to leave from these airports, but the airline reserves the right to cancel the pass of those it has reason to think have signed up as being from one area, but are actually from another.

The airline also isn’t guaranteeing a ride on any plane with an available seat. Its terms and conditions are rather opaque on availability, saying that “the provision of flight tickets depends on a number of internal and external factors” including the seat capacity, number of passengers on the flight, and the number of total registered All You Can Fly members – currently set at a maximum of 10,000.

The airline was not able to explain at which load level the seats are allowed or disallowed to CNN.

So is it worth it? Possibly, if you’re prepared to fly at little notice and be flexible about a return. Also, if you travel light. Most importantly, if you’re a solo traveler – even if two of you buy passes, there’s no guarantee you’ll both get space on a flight.

But you’d also need to be a frequent flyer to make it worthwhile. One frequent Wizz flyer, who regularly flies between the UK and Italy, said that they usually pay around 50 euros for a basic one-way ticket, booked a couple of weeks in advance.

In fact, there are countless ways to experience memorable moments and make lifelong memories with your kids, whether you hike the mountains of Machu Picchu or ride the newest coaster at Disney World .

Travel tips for infants and toddlers

Having a baby may cause you to temporarily pause your adventures, and it will certainly change how you travel. But traveling with a baby is still worth the effort.

While it's true that your baby may not remember vacations that happened during their first few years, quality time together is invaluable, and you will always remember their first big vacation.

Some kinds of travel are often easier with a small, snuggly baby than a growing, active toddler, so don't be afraid to plan something while your little one is still young.

Use the right travel stroller

If you plan on traveling with a stroller, you want one that is lightweight, easily foldable and can smoothly maneuver through the airport or on rough terrain once you reach your destination.

Several strollers fold up small enough to fit in the overhead bin on most major airlines, but foldability isn't as important if you choose to gate-check your stroller.

Instead, prioritize protecting it from dirt and damage by investing in a stroller bag. For long layovers, you can request to have your gate-checked stroller delivered to you between flights so that your baby has a safe and comfortable place to rest while you navigate the airport. Just ask the gate agent when you check your stroller.

Practice babywearing

To keep your hands free and your baby snuggled, you may choose to practice babywearing through the airport or on a flight (though most airlines don't allow it during takeoff and landing).

Transportation Security Administration rules state that infants may be carried in a sling or carrier while going through the walk-through metal detector, so you shouldn't have to remove them for security.

If it's not too hot, baby carriers and slings also come in handy at theme parks, which allow babywearing on many family-friendly attractions. Just be sure you ask about safety restrictions before you ride.

Breastfeeding mamas should consider carriers that allow easy access for on-the-go nursing, such as those in sling or wrap styles.

Consider a Doona

If you don't want to lug both a car seat and a stroller and your baby weighs between 4 and 35 pounds, you're in luck: The Doona can serve the function of both. It easily transforms from a stroller to a car seat and back again, all while your baby is strapped in.

Think twice about flying with a lap infant

Most airlines allow children younger than 2 years of age to fly as lap infants .

The cost savings can be hard to pass up, and during those early months when the little one is nursing or sleeping a lot, it can be the easiest way to go. If they can sleep through anything or you have someone you can split baby-care duties with, you may have success flying with a lap infant. However, if your baby is fussy or you are flying solo, you may feel more comfortable keeping them in their car seat.

If you do purchase a seat for your baby, there are dozens of portable car seats out there that are much easier to travel with than the bulky car seat you may have at home.

Get a car seat just for travel

Every kid is different, but if your child sleeps well in a car seat in the car, they may do the same on a plane. If your kids are generally comfortable in car seats and have their own seat assignments on the plane, consider bringing the car seat on board for a secure flight experience. You may also want to bring your own car seat if you plan to rent a car or use a ride-hailing service once you reach your destination.

The Cosco Onlook is a perennial favorite for travel car seats. Weighing around 10 pounds, this car seat is a winner for situations where you need something easy and affordable. It's rated for rear-facing little ones weighing between 5 and 40 pounds or forward-facing kiddos weighing 22 to 40 pounds.

Bring a Boppy pillow if you're holding an infant

A Boppy nursing pillow can be a lifesaver on long flights with an infant. In addition to being handy for nursing, it gives your baby a comfortable place to rest while giving your arms a break. To save space, you can stash your Boppy in a vacuum-seal bag when you're not using it.

Sign your kids up for frequent flyer programs

Once you transition to buying your child a seat — either because they turn 2 or because you think having a separate seat will work best for your family — sign them up for a frequent flyer account and let the miles start rolling in.

No minimum age requirements exist for kids, so enroll them while they're young to maximize their earnings. Several airlines allow families to pool their miles if you want to manage your family's points in one account.

Most airlines let families with young children board early, but as long as your family has assigned seats, you don't need to worry about rushing to board before others.

Instead, have one parent get all the gear ready and board first while the other waits as long as possible before bringing the baby on board. This will help minimize the time you have your little one in tight quarters, reducing the likelihood of a meltdown or further disrupting their schedule.

Pack your carry-on strategically

Think about everything you need easy access to for yourself and your baby before organizing your carry-on. That way, you won't forget your must-have items or struggle to find them on board.

Pack food, diapers and extra outfits for at least twice as long as you think you'll need them for your little one while in transit. Don't forget to also bring clothes, snacks and drinks for yourself so you have everything you need.

As a general rule of thumb, it's a good idea to have enough essentials on board to survive for at least 24 hours, as you never know what will happen.

Bring large Ziploc bags and black trash sacks

When you're packing for a trip, never travel without a few Ziploc bags, grocery bags or trash bags. They can be used to store wet or dirty clothing. In a pinch, black garbage bags can also work as blackout shades for your hotel room.

Find a space in your hotel for the baby to sleep

In the best-case scenario, you'll have accommodations with at least two bedrooms so your baby has a dark, quiet place to sleep while you relax without disturbing them. However, there are times when having multiple rooms isn't possible.

If you only have one bedroom, try putting a crib in a hotel closet or bathroom to achieve the same result.

Travel with gear that will help your baby sleep in the hotel

Bring mess-free toys

When choosing toys to pack for a flight or road trip, keep in mind that you don't want anything that will create a mess or get lost easily, such as slime or Legos.

Pack hidden toys to reveal during your trip

A surefire way to keep your child content for extended periods of time is to wait to give them some new toys until your travel day arrives, so they feel fresh and exciting. You can even wrap them up or dole them out periodically throughout your trip.

If you don't want to splash out too much cash, visit a dollar store or the bargain aisle in a grocery store — you may be surprised at what you find. Trust us, the $5 investment will pay off in spades.

Consider an inflatable booster seat

Use a stroller

You could rent one once you reach your destination, or you may prefer to have your own.

Get stroller straps

Because it isn't socially acceptable to AirTag children (though they do come in handy for finding lost luggage ), we suggest getting stroller straps that bigger kids can hold on to while you push younger children in the stroller. We're particularly fond of the Tagalong Stroller Accessory .

Preschedule car service from the airport

If you need car seats or want to be sure you have a ride waiting for you when you land, Uber and Lyft now both have options for prescheduling a ride if you need one. Blacklane is another high-end option. If you're traveling with a lot of gear, consider having your driver meet you inside baggage claim.

Pack a night-light

Night-lights are useful for kids who are afraid of the dark. This affordable night-light is small, sleek and easy to pack.

If you are going on a cruise and don't have access to traditional power outlets, TPG Managing Editor Erica Silverstein suggests bringing battery-operated tea lights instead.

Travel somewhere with a kids club

A magical milestone in travel is when your child turns 3 and is potty trained, as this unlocks access to various kids clubs at resorts and on cruise ships (some of which are free to use).

Whether you're on a Disney cruise or at a resort with a kids club , these areas are great for preschoolers. By going somewhere that caters to younger children, you can get a well-deserved break while the kids are taken care of.

Plan down days and afternoon rest

Even if your preschooler has dropped daily naps at home, building some downtime into your vacation schedule is still smart. Their sleep schedule will likely be a little off while traveling and the vacation will be more action-packed than what they're used to at home, so it's important to set aside time for rest.

To help your overtired kid adjust, plan a relaxing pool day or take an afternoon break in your hotel room to keep crankiness at bay.

Travel tips for elementary-age kids

As kids get older, they can do more while on vacation with less help, but the tried-and-true tricks for keeping them entertained may no longer work.

Because their brains are developing and becoming more complex, elementary-age kids will need access to more activities while away from home. As a result, you'll need to adjust your trip strategy so they continue to have a good time.

Use packing cubes for the family

This tip applies to all age groups but can be especially helpful when your child starts taking more interest in choosing their own clothes. By relying on packing cubes , you can keep clothing for every member of your family organized while saving space.

If you decide to use packing cubes, there are a couple of good methods to choose from. You can have a packing cube for each day of your trip and put your family's clothing in one cube. This works well if you will be making multiple stops and don't want to pack and unpack everything.

You could also pack each family member's clothing in a separate packing cube, which is helpful when encouraging kids to choose their own outfits and get dressed independently.

Leave 1 day free in the schedule

We've already covered the importance of leaving some flex time in the afternoons, but if you are traveling for more than a long weekend, we highly recommend leaving an entire day unscheduled. That way, the kids can rest, and you will have the ability to say yes to a spontaneous activity that they'd like to do.

Depending on your child's interests, you may want to use your free day for activities like splashing around at a water park, exploring the great outdoors, enjoying an epic ice cream-tasting adventure or spending more time at the kids club.

The key is to leave this day flexible so you can cater some activities to what your kid enjoys most.

Take advantage of your hotel's club lounge

Club access can be invaluable when traveling with kids.

If you stay in a club-level room at a hotel , you'll often have daily access to breakfast, snacks and drinks. An added bonus is that the club can serve as a gathering spot for enjoying more time (and often gorgeous views) with them.

Plan trips with another family

At a certain age, having other kids around really starts to matter.

If possible, try planning the trip to at least overlap with time spent with cousins or friends. Doing so will virtually guarantee the kids will have a better time, which means you will, too.

Travel tips for tweens and teens

Traveling with tweens and teens is completely different from traveling with younger kids — something you probably know all too well if you are currently living with them.

At this age, kids are well on their way toward becoming full-fledged adults. As a result, they deserve a taste of the space, privacy and independence that comes with adulthood.

Build an activity bag

It's easy to assume a phone will do the trick, but activity bags can keep kids (including older ones) occupied on long trips.

For your activity bag, consider anything from snacks and quiet toys to new games for their gaming console and art supplies — whatever will keep them entertained while you reach your final destination.

Double-check downloaded content

Wi-Fi on airplanes can be quite finicky. Even if you pay for it, there's never a guarantee it'll work for the entirety of your flight. Because of this, it's a good idea to download movies, music, games and more to your device (or your child's) before your trip.

When downloading movies or TV shows, use multiple sources like Netflix, Disney+ and Apple. That way, if you run into issues with one provider, you still have content from the others. Also, remember that messaging others is free on many flights, so be sure your teen has the airline app downloaded if you want them to be able to keep using services such as iMessage while in the air.

Enroll your child in TSA PreCheck

Until they turn 13, kids traveling with a parent or guardian enrolled in TSA PreCheck will be allowed to go through the expedited security line even if they themselves don't have TSA PreCheck.

Even after they turn 13, kids 17 and younger can typically use the TSA PreCheck lines with their parent or guardian as long as the teen has the indicator on their boarding pass.

If you have a credit card that reimburses fees for TSA PreCheck , you can recoup the cost of your child's application. Note that Clear continues to work to bring kids through until they turn 18.

Consider connecting rooms

Once they reach their teenage years, the days of squeezing two or three kids into one queen-size bed are long gone. Trying to have the whole family use one bathroom is an ordeal you won't want to go through, either.

To keep the peace, consider reserving connecting hotel rooms .

With connecting rooms, you'll have double the beds, bathrooms and storage space. Plus, teens and tweens will have the space and privacy they need without you being too far away to keep an eye on them.

Let kids choose a few activities (or plan the whole day)

At this age, kids are not just along for the ride. Give them some input (and independence) by allowing them to help plan your trip. Odds are they'll be more engaged by being involved in the planning.

Bring a friend

While planning trips with other families is a good strategy with elementary-age kids, by the time kids are teens, just bringing one of their friends could be sufficient.

To keep the costs down, consider using an airline companion certificate to bring along a friend without spending extra.

Go somewhere with a teen club

If you are visiting a resort or destination where you may be going light on activities, lean into places that have a space just for teens.

Cruise ships are fantastic at this, as they often have kid-focused spaces divided into pretty distinct age ranges. For example, Disney Cruise Line has a club for kids ages 3 to 12, another for those between 11 and 14, and another for teens ages 14 to 17.

By taking advantage of clubs broken up into designated age groups, your teen can have plenty of fun without the annoyance of hanging out with younger kids.

General family travel tips

Some family travel tips transcend age groups.

Regardless of how old your kids are, where you're traveling or how you're getting to your vacation destination, there are a few tips you'll always want to keep top of mind.

Utilize airport lounges

Airport lounges are becoming increasingly kid-friendly, as they offer dedicated family rooms with toys and kids shows on TV, plus food that will please picky eaters. Additionally, if you have a long layover or are dealing with flight delays or cancellations , you'll be much more comfortable waiting in a lounge instead of at your gate.

You can purchase a day pass to many lounges, but you may be able to get yourself and your family in for free with certain credit cards or airline status. For example, The Platinum Card® from American Express grants the cardmember and one guest complimentary access to Priority Pass lounges and access to Centurion and Escape lounges, though complimentary guest access depends on how much you spend annually.

Upgrade to a suite

Like springing for connecting rooms, upgrading to a suite will buy you additional space and, sometimes, a pullout sofa bed that adds another sleeping option.

You'll also have more room for your family's belongings and areas for relaxing and dining so your kids don't spend all their time jumping, eating and lounging on the beds.

Check for reciprocal zoo and museum memberships

If you have a membership to your local zoo or museum, you may be able to use reciprocal benefits for free or discounted entry to other zoos and museums that you can visit on vacation.

This information is usually available on your zoo's or museum's website, but you can also check the lists on the Association of Zoos & Aquariums' page about reciprocal admissions or on the North American Reciprocal Museum Association website .

Get a travel tracker that doubles as a memento

You can get many unique travel souvenirs that also serve as keepsakes for remembering your child's travel "firsts."

These Junior Frequent Flyer flight logbooks allow you to record your child's flights while teaching them about aviation.

If a national park visit is in your future, order a standard or junior National Parks Passport and collect stamps every time you visit a new park.

Don't forget important medicines

You must be prepared for anything when you are away from home. That includes unexpected sicknesses and accidents.

Pack kid-safe and grown-up medicines, Band-Aids, antibiotic ointment and other first-aid necessities in your carry-on bag so you won't be without them if your checked luggage is delayed or lost.

Bring an extra bag

If you are traveling between a cold and a hot climate, pack a lightweight tote bag that folds into your carry-on so you can easily gather everyone's coats once on the plane. By keeping this tote tucked away until you're boarding the aircraft, you'll enjoy an extra allowed bag, saving you the headache of determining where to put bulky coats.

Get Global Entry for each family member

Unlike TSA PreCheck, which allows kids to travel with an eligible adult until they turn 18 (in most cases), anyone wishing to use Global Entry to expedite reentry into the U.S. needs to apply for the program.

Global Entry can save valuable time spent waiting in line. However, you'll need to apply well before your trip so you have time to submit your application, complete an in-person interview and await approval.

As with TSA PreCheck, you can use a credit card and be reimbursed for your child's Global Entry application fee. Or, if you wait to apply until Oct. 1, kids under 18 will be exempt from the application fee .

Try out the games built into many spaces

It's easy to miss, but many resorts, theme parks and cruise ships have a hidden layer of fun that ranges from traditional scavenger hunts to interactive activities you can unlock with an iPhone or similar device.

While the youngest travelers won't benefit from these types of experiences, they can be fun for other age ranges, especially elementary-age kids and tweens.

Mark Twain said it best when he said: “ I have found out that there ain’t no surer way to find out whether you like people or hate them than to travel with them .” With solo travel becoming so popular these days, I wanted to share some insight about how to travel with friends the right way.

I’ve heard my share of nightmare stories from others about how both vacations and lengthy friendships have been ruined because of a trip together . That being said, I’m still a huge advocate of traveling with your besties!

Whether it’s the 5 week trip I took through southeast asia with my best friend or the numerous voyages with other couples, I’ve had a lot of great experiences.

I’ve done Mexico all-inclusive resort vacations with both family and friends a few times, friends ski trips to the mountains and most recently, I organized a 10 person friends trip to Las Vegas. 

A lifetime of awesome memories have been made by sharing my travel experiences with the people I love .

However, I won’t lie; each of these trips have come with their own unique hiccups and challenges from traveling with others. But, I’ve learned a lot from these experiences. 

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that when it comes to traveling with friends, I approach it from the perspective of vacation versus travel .

There is a difference.

I will go on and enjoy a vacation with friends, but usually only travel with my partner. It’s a lot easier to be less stressed and worried about doing and seeing everything if you consider it more of a vacation style trip instead of an immersive travel experience.

Let’s get into the reasons why you should travel with friends, things to consider and tips to make sure everything goes smoothly!

The Pros of Travel with Friends

There are so many great reasons why I still love traveling with a group of friends. Here they are:

It’s Cheaper! 

You can share rooms, taxis, ubers, rental cars, everything. For example, when I was traveling in Vietnam with my girlfriend, it was cheaper for us to get our own nice room and share a king size bed than to each pay separately for a hostel bed in a room with 8 other beds. 

Adding to my above point, you also open up the possibility of more accommodation options .

If you’re traveling in a larger group, you now open up the option of renting a house or a 2-bedroom condo with full kitchens and maybe your own pool. When it’s just 2 people it’s hard to justify the costs of getting something bigger.

New Places and Experiences

When you travel with friends, it opens up your possibilities to go somewhere you might never visit. I once spent a week in Louisiana and Alabama with some friends.

These southern states had originally been far down on my travel bucket list. But we were invited by some friends who were headed down for a BBQ competition.

For example, if you’re an avid skier or snowboarder and your spouse isn’t, you may never go on a ski trip together when it’s just the two of you.

But with friends, it’s a lot easier to split up during the day and still do the things you each want to do. Like one of you goes skiing with the others, and one of you does a spa day with the non-skiers. 

Also, when you travel with friends, you’re more likely to go to restaurants that you wouldn’t normally try if your spouse is usually a picky eater.

For instance, my friend’s husband isn’t very adventurous when it comes to food, but she knew that I was. On a trip to New Orleans we picked a restaurant that served the famous Alligator Cheesecake .

Because my friend knew I would split it with her, it wouldn’t be a waste of an order. Plus, when there’s a group of you, you get the opportunity to try more items off the menu.

Built-in Photographers

One of the things that sucks about traveling as a couple is that it’s hard to get nice couple photos. You’re limited to selfies or asking a stranger to take a blurry photo of the two of you.

Some people feel awkward asking for a photo. Some are afraid that their camera will get stolen or that they’ll get a mediocre photo at best. By contrast, when you’re with your friends, they can snap photos from every angle.

Plus, you won’t feel like a princess for asking them to do a re-take. Do it for the ‘Gram am I right?

Plus, you know when you’re back home from your vacation and you realize that you didn’t get a picture of ‘X’? There’s a chance your friends may have snapped a photo and you can swap pics and have double the photos and double the memories! 

You Become Closer

Contrary to some of the horror stories I’ve heard from others, you actually can become closer and better friends!

Traveling with friends not only encourages you to spend long quantities of time together, but you’re doing it in a fun and relaxing (mostly) atmosphere where you’re experiencing new things together.

I mean, nothing brings friends closer together than cheering each other on to eat a chocolate covered scorpion on the streets of Bangkok or getting an impulsive matching tattoo in Phuket! 

The Cons of Travel With Friends

While taking a vacation with your besties can make for some awesome memories, there are a few perils of adventures with your amigos . 

One of the biggest downsides is that you might not get to do everything you want. When you’re with a group, it’s hard to keep everyone on the same schedule, same budget and same itinerary.

Some people want to sleep in, others want to be out of the house at the crack of dawn. And the larger the group the harder this becomes. 

This makes it harder to plan your trip to satisfy everyone’s interests. Things get a little more complicated when you travel with friends, especially if it’s a large group. Dinner reservations become essential when you’re with a group of 10 versus just you and your travel companion. 

And yes, while vacations with your pals can bring you closer together, you can definitely become sick of each other and get into situations that ruin friendships.

My Best Advice and Tips About How to Travel With Friends and Make the Best of Your Vacation 

All that being said, I’ve learned a lot on my trips with friends over the last few years. Here are the most important things to consider when you’re planning to travel with friends.  

Bring things up with them before your trip. If there are certain quirks, qualities or characteristic traits about your friend(s) that you find a little annoying, it will be worse on the trip. Address it first.

Build your itinerary before you go. Make it fun, go out for dinner or drinks and get excited about the trip together!

Consider testing out a short weekend getaway to make sure you’re compatible travel partners.

Set up a group chat before you leave or as soon as you arrive. This way when people get separated it’s easy to communicate with the whole group .

Phones always seem to die when there’s only one or 2 people who have the numbers of everyone in the group. Set Up a group chat and commit to using it while you’re on your trip.

It’s great for when you’re staying in different hotel rooms and you want to let people know when you’re headed down for breakfast or to the pool.

One of the most common things that causes stress when traveling with a group of people is when one person gets left out from a plan because they weren’t part of a conversation . Include everyone in the chat so everyone gets the same messages. 

Book services like hotels and car rentals before you go. This outlines the biggest costs up front so that everyone knows what to expect.

And this will also help avoid getting sucked into something you didn’t really plan on doing. 

Schedule Your Own Time

Build in alone time on the trip away from the other couples or friends. If you’re traveling as a couple with other couples, you’ll definitely want your own time together.

If you’re solo with a few friends, it’s equally as important to schedule alone time with yourself away from others. It helps keep the peace.

Choose Wisely

Try to travel with couples who have already traveled together. If you’re traveling with a new couple that hasn’t taken a lengthy trip or vacation together yet…abort!

This is almost always disastrous . We all know that traveling with your spouse can be much different than your everyday life at home; this is something many couples don’t realize until they actually go on a trip together. 

Determine Budgets

You’d be very surprised to find out how cheap frugal people are until you travel together! Decide how you’ll be splitting costs before you travel. It’s a lot easier to have everyone on the same page before you leave.

It can be awkward asking for someone’s half of the money after the trip . Especially if you do happen to become sick of each other after you return home. 

Know Your Travel style

It’s important to figure out what style of travelers each of you are. Some are more adventurous and outdoorsy, some will only stay in a 5 star hotel. Never assume someone’s travel style based on their lifestyle.

These can be quite different! When you travel with friends this will become apparent early on in your trip. So, it’s best to make sure you’re all relatively close in your travel styles. 

The Power of Snacks

Usually when you’re travelling as a group, you want to see and do as much as possible. Or, it might a busier trip than normal because there’s more of you to do more things.

Keep snacks with you, because chances are, there’s going to be at least one of you who gets hangry . Bring snacks, and plan food stops, because people will get hungry at different times.  

Speak Up When You Need To

Don’t be afraid to speak up and say something if you’re not feeling well or if you’re uncomfortable about something. On a group trip, you may not want to seem like you’re a party pooper.

But don’t be afraid to tell the group. The good news is that if your spouse still wants to do the activity, they can still go while you relax back at the hotel or on the beach. 

Technology is Your Friend

Chances are high that you’re going to be using Uber or Lyft as your main sources of transportation. Make sure everyone has the app(s) downloaded and ready to use so that you can split fares easily.

It’s a good idea to do this before the trip, in case yourself without WiFi and can’t download it. Or if someone’s phone dies you can still grab a ride without delay! 

And if you want to guarantee WiFi anywhere you are at all times, consider buying or renting a pocket WiFi device like Skyroam .

It’s perfect for situations when the airport WiFi sucks or when you’re on a road trip trying to make travel plans.

Take advantage of apps to make your life easier. For instance, you can use Travelchime when you’re planning your itinerary together. This platform allows you to collaborate in real time with your friends.

You can leave notes or updated information so that the entire group has access to it.

Hey Alyssa, I guess while travelling with friends renting a car with more than 7 seats is the best option. You will save on fuel and logistics if you rent one car instead of driving two or three. And you will have the chance of joking and laughing all together while you are travelling. Great Post.

One of my life’s biggest regrets is not studying abroad in college and not reaching for that elusive chance for total immersion into another culture during a semester away. Though I’ve been able to make up for it post-graduation with nearly 20 trips to Europe, from family jaunts to Italy and conferences in Riga, Latvia to posh London stays with Hilton , it has still felt like there was always a little something missing. Enter: my self-coined “adult study abroad summer,” when I connected a string of work trips with some personal exploration for a full seven weeks away from home. 

This seven-nation European swing began with a memorable mother-daughter Adriatic cruise with Viking, then a group trip to the Republic of Georgia, a self-guided Balkan adventure through Albania, Corfu, and North Macedonia, and finally a luxurious sail around the Greek Isles with Windstar. As the captain of Team Carry-on-only , it was a delicate dance to properly pack for the weather , plus a mix of casual and more formal events and destinations. Luckily, I was able to curate the perfect wardrobe with a slew of versatile travel dresses for every possible occasion. Sightseeing at a museum? Check. Michelin-star dinner out? Covered. Walking day exploring a new city? Done. Below, are the 10 dresses I suggest packing for the ultimate European summer vacation. 

A Linen Shirtdress

Is there a fabric more iconic, cooling, and chic than linen in the summer? I think not. I wore my lovely linen-blend Alex Mill shirtdress everywhere from a Greek olive oil tasting in Monemvasia via Windstar to a casual lakeside dinner of Ohrid trout in North Macedonia, but you can achieve the same look with this version from J.Crew; it's on mega sale and available in plenty of colors in case you’re not sold on white (pasta stains, oh me oh my). Pro tip: Consider adding a linen blazer to the mix, too. It'll be an elegant, lightweight jacket option that's easy to pack (and mix and match). 

An Elevated Athletic Dress

Americans love athleisure, a trend that’s been slower to catch on across the pond. While I wouldn't recommend sporting that leggings set out and about, I do suggest packing an athletic dress — especially one tailored enough that it could be mistaken for a normal dress — to get away with being comfy and stylish on your Euro getaway. I utilized a similar style to this Amazon-loved one for a day spent exploring beaches in Corfu, off the coast of Albania, part of the Ionian Islands of Greece. With an oversized button-down shirt , I could go straight from the sunny shores to a moonlit dinner in town without having to stop back at the Airbnb. 

A Matching Skirt Set

Though not technically a dress, a matching skirt set does so much for a travel wardrobe that it is worth the space in your carry-on. I have my eye on this vibrant red Farm Rio set , which would be perfect against the stark white homes in Ohrid; the pop of color would also make for compelling photos against the stunning cerulean backdrop of Lake Ohrid, one of the world’s oldest lakes. However, many shoppers have given the Zesica Matching Skirt Set from Amazon their stamp of approval. 

Whichever you choose, know that you're signing up for multiple mix-and-match options. You can wear the top with high-waisted white jeans , or try the skirt with a sleek black tank . Trust me on this one, I saw so many coordinating sets on the streets of Europe, from the golden capital of Malta to the balmy Dalmatian Coast, and this is one item I truly wished I would have packed for my summer away. 

A 'Nap' Dress

Hill House Home

A COVID-era trend turned wardrobe staple, the nap dress is meant to be so comfortable you can actually nap in it. I’m a longtime fan of Hill House Home, and I own more than 20 of these pretty dresses in whimsical prints. For travel purposes, I prefer to pack a more classic nap dress, like the navy Ellie style , which matches more and is less memorable than a fussier or more elaborate print. Bonus: it’s truly wrinkle-resistant, so you can avoid the iron and toss it on before exploring old town Kotor.

Alternatively, Amazon has similar nap dress-inspired silhouettes at lower price points; check out the Zesica Plaid Square Neck Puff Sleeve Midi Dress and the Chouyatou Smocked Flounce Dress starting at $29. 

A Ballet-style Midi Dress

No bow, no go — Balletcore is very much in . I mean, did it ever really leave? To incorporate the trend into your travel wardrobe, I'd pick up this gorgeous fit-and-flare dress from Quince; it strikes the perfect balance between flowy and structured so you can feel comfy and look put-together. I wore a similar dress nonstop during my Georgia trip, going from mountains to vineyards to the bustling capital city and back again. In terms of accessorizing this classic silhouette, snag one of these uber-popular Marzoline beauties that are handmade in Milan. 

A Peachy Pick 

Embrace Peach Fuzz, the Pantone Color of the Year , with a warm, pastel-hued dress like this one from Charles Henry. It's breezy enough to beat the heat, but modest enough to mimic cap sleeves when visiting cathedrals or religious sites. Plus, the midi length keeps it modern and approachable, while the cotton poplin fabric means only natural fibers touch your skin. Though this shade isn’t my usual cup of tea, I spotted it on plenty of other European travelers and locals alike.

A Blue and White Dress

Abercrombie & Fitch

While peach may dominate the color wheel for the moment, a classic combination for any Euro getaway is blue and white. You might associate the color palette with Santorini for its famous white buildings and contrasting blue domes, but the duo really works anywhere in Europe. Take this chic Abercrombie pick for example. It's made with 100 percent cotton, features a cute tie, and is a comfy maxi dress length. It’s practically begging for some island time. A Fun Cut-out Dress

A pretty dress that showcases just a peek of skin is ever-so playful and flirty, but there are elegant ways to nail the look. Amazon shoppers love this billowy maxi dress, which has two modest side cut-outs, adding unique contrast to the classic square-neck, short-sleeve silhouette. You can also play with cut-outs more elegantly with a gown like this metallic floral maxi , which would make a great destination wedding guest dress. Now if only my family would decide to throw weddings abroad rather than in our Midwestern hometown…

A White Tennis Dress

There's no denying Tenniscore's presence in 2024's list of summer trends . And, as luck would have it, the look makes for an effortlessly stylish travel outfit. A classic white tennis dress pick like this Amazon-loved one is an easy layering piece that is equal parts comfy and elevated with its corset details and exaggerated pleats for easy movement when walking the winding streets of Rome. A Jumpsuit 

Okay, hear me out. I know this isn’t technically a dress, but a cute jumpsuit can function the same way: throw it on, stay comfortable, and make the most of your Euro trip. Late-Summer Travel Plans? You Might Want to Put On a Mask.

With U.S. Covid-19 cases at very high levels and new vaccines still several weeks away, we asked experts for their advice on when and where to wear a mask.

It is the height of the summer travel season: Airplanes and cruises are packed, hotels are booked, and travelers are crowding theme parks and attractions. Yet throughout the United States, Covid-19 is currently circulating at very high levels.

During the peak of the pandemic, masks were ubiquitous in hotels, airports and other public places. They were required to fly , and many travelers donned them elsewhere to help reduce the transmission of the deadly coronavirus. Since the end of the mandate, and as travel has returned to or surpassed prepandemic levels , most travelers have abandoned preventive measures, particularly masks.

With updated vaccines not available until the fall , experts are reminding travelers about the benefits of masking, particularly in airports and poorly ventilated indoor environments.

Here’s what you need to know about masks and your travel plans.

What’s going on with Covid right now?

The number of reported cases appears to be climbing both in the United States and abroad. In the United States, there are “very high” levels of the virus in wastewater samples nationwide, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The World Health Organization reported that cases around the globe rose by 30 percent from June 24 to July 21, compared with the previous 28 days. Put simply: There’s a lot of Covid out there.

How effective are masks? What is the best mask to use?

People who want to minimize their risk of respiratory illnesses like Covid (along with colds and the flu) should wear a mask while traveling, experts say. Even if you’re the only person wearing one on a train or at an airport, a mask continues to offer protection — provided you wear it properly, which means covering both your nose and your mouth.

“It does not eliminate the risk, but it substantially reduces the risk of exposure,” said Dr. Ziyad Al-Aly, the chief of research and development at the Veterans Affairs St. Louis Healthcare System, in Missouri. Aim for a high-quality mask, like an N95, a KN95 or a KF94 , all of which filter out the overwhelming majority of virus particles and are far more effective at reducing the chance of a Covid infection than cloth or surgical versions. Masks should fit snugly on your face.

“If you have symptoms and you have any question about it, I would wear a mask, just to protect other people,” said Dr. Marc Sala, a co-director of the Northwestern Medicine Comprehensive Covid-19 Center in Chicago. Common symptoms of Covid include coughing, fever, sneezing, congestion, headaches, sore muscles, fatigue and gastrointestinal issues . Those who are asymptomatic but have been exposed to Covid may also consider masking.

If you have tested positive during a trip but cannot delay traveling, you should wear a mask whenever you are around other people, Dr. Sala said.

Where should travelers wear a mask?

The C.D.C. urges travelers to “consider wearing masks in crowded or poorly ventilated indoor areas, including on public transportation and in transportation hubs.”

Dr. Al-Aly recommended carrying around a few masks in your bag or pockets, so that you have them on hand when you enter a crowded indoor space. “Maintain situational awareness,” he said. If you’re in a crowded indoor space, like a train station or busy museum, you may want to put on a mask. Although airplanes filter and circulate air , there is still a risk that comes with being in close quarters with large groups of people, Dr. Al-Aly said.

What is the travel industry’s stance on masking?

The mask mandate on airplanes became a heated issue at the height of the pandemic, with travel representatives arguing that it was harming the recovery of a hard-hit industry.

The U.S. Travel Association , a trade group that promotes travel to and within the country, believes mask wearing should be up to individual travelers. It welcomed the lifting of the mask mandate on U.S. transportation in 2022, calling it “a step further toward the endemic management of Covid.” That stance has not changed.

The International Air Transportation Association , another industry group, argues that aircraft are designed to reduce the transmission of viruses on board. “Cabin air is refreshed every two to three minutes — much more frequently than most other indoor environments,” the agency said in a statement. “It is also filtered and flows from ceiling to floor, all of which helps to maintain a healthy onboard environment.”

Passengers always have a choice to wear masks, the statement continued, and many airlines provide them upon request.

Major cruise lines do not require guests to wear masks, but passengers are required to undergo a health screening before boarding a ship, and some companies, including Carnival Cruise Line, encourage passengers to be up-to-date with Covid vaccines.

Wizz Air launches $550 'all you can fly' annual subscription pass

LONDON — Travelers in Europe can now take unlimited flights for 499 euros ($550) a year under a new travel subscription service from budget carrier  Wizz Air .

The annual “all you can fly” pass, which allows passengers to book one-way and roundtrip flights throughout the year, will be available for the introductory fee until Friday before the price rises to 599 euros.

Details on the airline’s  website  show passengers can book flights with “no limits” to any of its international destinations — including Athens, Greece, Madrid, Paris and Reykjavik, Iceland — up to three days before departure, with the booking window opening in September.

Each booking is subject to an additional flat fee of 9.99 euros and luggage beyond one personal item will be charged as extra.

The airline said it initially plans to release 10,000 “all you can fly” memberships, while FAQs on its website note that seats will be subject to availability, depending on “several external and internal factors.”

The launch follows similar subscription packages by U.S. carriers, such as Frontier Airlines, which last year  announced  a $599 unlimited Go Wild! pass for its North America routes.

However, while some European carriers offer multiflight bundles for a set fee, unlimited packages remain a novel concept on the Continent.

It comes as Wizz Air has seen its   profits deteriorate and customer satisfaction wane amid wider pressure on the sector following the post-pandemic travel boom.

Earlier this month, the Hungarian airline reported a 44% drop in its first-quarter operating profit. Meantime, a customer satisfaction rating of 44% put it at the bottom of a February ranking of short-haul European carriers by consumer group Which?

CEO Jozsef Varadi told CNBC on the day of releasing its first-quarter results that supply constraints were impacting the company’s short-term outlook while inflationary pressures were weighing on consumer demand.

The airline, which already runs flights to the Maldives, Cairo and Dubai, United Arab Emirates, has previously said it is exploring new routes from  Europe to India .
