Look Inside Kris Jenner’s Closet, 62 Years in the Making

A video tour of the fabulous closet the size of a NYC apartment.

Kris Jenner Shows Off Her '62 Years Of Collecting' Fashion in Swoon-Worthy Closet Tour lead

Kris Jenner has finally given the world a glimpse inside her closet, and it is just as bougie and fabulous as we’d dreamed. The Kardashian matriarch invited her friend, Judith Leiber creative director Dee Hilfiger, into her Calabasas closet (which is more like a large New York apartment) for the most anticipated tour of our time.

“This is kind of where it all happens,” she says. “We shoot a television show almost every single day, so we have to have a lot of options.” Those “options” include an entire wall of black blazers (at least 25 of them), a section of gowns, and enough shoes and bags to outfit herself in something new every day for the next 10 years, we’d guess.

The pièce de résistance, though, comes from her collection of monogrammed Goyard luggage. In addition to having multiple pieces from the set emblazoned with her initials, she also has a trunk that reads “MOMAGER,” which was a gift from daughter Khloé Kardashian last Christmas.

Her shoe collection—which includes an entire wall filled with sneakers and high heels—is so vast, she jokes she often has to play “eeny, meeny, miny, moe” to decide which pair to wear. “It’s a process of, like, what to put on and what goes with what, but I’m not as good at it as I used to be, so I’m always calling my cousin CeCe, going, ‘What do I wear with this?'” she says.

To keep things organized, Jenner reserves one section of the massive closet for her “everyday” wear—aka her sweatsuits. “That’s how I’m most comfortable,” she says. Plus, she gave a special shoutout to her go-to accessory. “This is how you can be a boss lady: in a fabulous scarf,” she says of the black-and-gold Versace “boss lady scarves” that are a frequent fixture around her neck.

And, of course, there’s the purses.

“Some of the things I’ve had for so many years, and the bag collection and every single thing I have, has a wonderful memory,” she says, noting that her closet has been 62 years in the making.

Like her daughter Kylie, Kris Jenner ‘s handbags are displayed museum-style (which makes sense, given that most of them look like priceless works of art). Also like Kylie, who still has the first designer bag she ever received, she’s held on to her favorite pieces for decades.

“The first ever Judith Leiber bag I got was this one. Robert Kardashian gave this to me for Christmas in, like, 1980. Isn’t it beautiful? I don’t even—I am afraid to take it out these days. I don’t even want to use it anymore,” she says of a small rhinestone clutch. She also has a gem-encrusted bag that says “LOVEY,” which is the name her grandchildren call her, as well as one shaped like a black credit card that reads “YOLO” and “No Limit.”

Prepare to enter Kris Jenner’s house. In a clip from the upcoming episode of The Kardashians , the momager-of-six shows off her brand-new Hidden Hills home, and it is every bit as stylish as you might expect. Jenner worked with Kathleen Clements, Tommy Clements, and Waldo Fernandez—all members of the AD100—to design the space, which she purchased in 2020 after selling her serene dwelling in the same neighborhood (and designed by the same team) that graced the pages of AD in 2019.

Jenner’s daughter Khloé Kardashian —who is currently in the process of building a house right next door—offers her colorful take on her mother’s design style in the clip. “Living in Kris Jenner world is just fabulousness,” the founder of Good American says. “Like being surrounded by opulence and a dirty martini in a crystal glass, covered in diamonds, and always made up and in these gowns and candlelight and dinner china and fabulous shit everywhere.”

Khloé’s description is extremely accurate, but there’s more going on in Jenner’s home than just unfettered luxury. It isn’t particularly sparkly—aside from the crystal—but instead employs a neutral palette and plenty of lush textures. Below, check out the clip provided exclusively to AD by Hulu, and read on for six things to look out for when you tune in to The Kardashians this Thursday.

In March, Kourtney Kardashian’s website, Poosh, provided the first look at Jenner’s “dish room,” a walk-in closet outfitted with pristine, well-lit shelving displaying fine china. There are no less than six sets from Hermès, one Gucci Herbarium set in green, a custom set with depictions of the Kardashian-Jenners on it, and an entire set of Royal Copenhagen’s Flora Danica porcelain pieces, which are handmade and painted to order. No two Flora Danica pieces are identical, and, to give you an idea of what these plates are worth, a full set sold at Christie’s for $62,500 in April 2019.

Speaking of plates, a set of large jade-green ones hang on the wall above Jenner’s dining table. The reality star is in good company with her statement wall decor—Gwyneth Paltrow has a plate rack displaying her blue-and-white Hermès china in her Montecito kitchen, and designers like J.J. Martin, Carolina Irving, and Frank de Biasi all did the same in their own homes.

Over the years, the Kardashian-Jenners have helped fuel a number of Instagram-centric kitchen trends with their meticulously organized pantries and Khloé’s infamous stacked cookie jars. But Jenner may have upped the ante with her new refrigerator, a matte black three-door behemoth. The middle section is glass, revealing an inside entirely stocked with green-colored produce including herbs, asparagus, artichokes, lettuce, avocados, broccoli, cucumbers, and yes, limes. Eat your heart out, Dakota Johnson.

Jenner’s famous kids love to tease her about her affinity for martinis, but who cares about a little ribbing when she’s sipping from the most stylish of glassware? The above clip first shows a well-stocked bar with multiple silver cocktail shakers and what looks like Williams-Sonoma martini glasses. Then the camera pans over a mirrored cabinet stocked with an entire set of Baccarat crystal, and, as Jenner captioned an Instagram post in 2018, “Everything tastes better in Baccarat.”

When Jenner needs a place to set her Baccarat glass, she has two small drinks tables in her living room to get the job done. There’s something extremely luxurious about having an item that only serves one specific small-yet-important purpose, and Jenner’s dedication to detail is impressive.

The resurgence of traditional design has apparently reached one of America’s most modern families. Yes, Jenner’s living room has a subdued marble fireplace and sleek sofa, but there are softer-looking elements sprinkled into this space, such as a white armchair with a ruffled skirt. It adds sophistication, and, don’t forget, Jenner is a grandmother 11 times over—though she prefers that the little ones call her “Lovey.”

Kris Jenner's giant closet has an entire section filled with black blazers, and it gives her daughters' wardrobes a run for their money

  • Kris Jenner gave a tour of her multi-room closet to Dee Hilfiger, the creative director of luxury brand  Judith Leiber Couture .
  • One section of Jenner's closet is devoted entirely to black blazers, a staple piece in her wardrobe.
  • Some of Jenner's favorite items in her wardrobe were gifts from her daughters, including "Momager" luggage and a butterfly clutch.
  • She also has a selection of Judith Leiber Couture bags, including  clutches that look like penguins, candy, deer, and butterflies.

In a recent video, Kris Jenner gave a tour of her luxurious closet to Dee Hilfiger, the creative director of luxury brand Judith Leiber Couture.

Jenner's closet is comprised of multiple rooms. She keeps her "glitter and fun gowns" in the first room of her wardrobe, but stores her shoe and handbag collections in other sections.

Because her family shoots their TV show almost every day, Jenner says that she "has to have a lot of choices" to hand, even when it comes to basic pieces. One section of Jenner's closet, for instance, is devoted entirely to black blazers, a staple piece in her wardrobe.

Some of Jenner's favorite items are gifts from her daughters, including "Momager" luggage from Khloe Kardashian and a butterfly clutch from Kylie Jenner . Strong memories are attached to much of Jenner's closet, as she can remember when and where she got most items.

And though Jenner notes that it's hard to pick what to wear everyday, she says her "first stop" is her sweatsuit collection.

She has also amassed a number of impressive handbags. Since getting her first Judith Leiber bag in the '80s,  Jenner has expanded her collection, which now includes clutches that look like penguins, candy, deer, and butterflies.

Other members of the family appear to be Judith Leiber fans. Earlier this month,  Kim Kardashian West  was spotted carrying a clutch shaped by French fries by the late designer.

Kris Jenner Gives a Tour of Her Massive Closet, AKA Luxury Handbag Heaven

The Keeping Up with the Kardashians  momager showed Judith Leiber Couture creative director Dee Hilfiger around her gleaming temple to designer fashion.

kris jenner closet tour

We've seen plenty of over-the-top closets — from  The Real Housewives of Dallas '   D'Andra Simmons'  entire room devoted to gowns to  The Real Housewives of Orange County   alum  Heather Dubrow 's closet with a champagne doorbell to  Ladies of London  pal  Caroline Stanbury 's  color-coordinated wardrobe in Dubai.

But Kris Jenner's closet tour might be the ultimate shopping fantasy. The momager showed Judith Leiber Couture creative director Dee Hilfiger around her gleaming temple to designer fashion. There's even a Momager-monogrammed suitcase. She's got an entire section devoted to black blazers (her uniform) and an unreal shoe collection, but the first thing she makes a beeline to every morning is her carefully hung-up tracksuits. "My first stop is a sweatsuit," Jenner says in the video.

The closet tour focuses mostly on Jenner's handbags, bypassing all the Chanel, Hermès, and Louis Vuitton for the incredibly sparkly Judith Leiber bags she's been collecting since the '80s. Hilfiger even gifts Jenner a new Judith Leiber bag shaped like an Amex black card emblazoned with the phrase YOLO.

"Such a Kris Jenner bag," Jenner says. "The perfect gift for me." See all the handbag magic in the video below.

And we thought nothing could top  Kylie Jenner's mirror-lined closet with $250,000 worth of bags !

Kris Jenner House Tour

Kris Jenner’s Closet Tour Is 62 Years Worth Of Fashion Goals And We’re Obsessed

Jelly Roll Weight Loss

Forget Disney World, y’all! Kris Jenner ‘s closet is the happiest place on earth. On Aug. 27, Judith Leiber Couture dropped an almost ten-minute video tour of the momager’s epic shoe, purse, jewelry, and wardrobe collection and seriously, we’re in awe. Like, we always suspected Kris’ closet was fabulous, but nothing could have prepared us for this level of magic. Let’s go ahead and take a look at our favorite moments, shall we?

Kris Jenner has an entire collection of black blazers.

a

Sure, every working woman knows that a black blazer is a closet staple, but this is Kris Jenner we’re talking about. Those blazers aren’t from Ann Taylor Loft or H&M. Those are designer, on designer, on designer, ladies and gents. Swoon!

Kris Jenner has a custom Goyard momager bag.

a

Never heard of Goyard? That’s OK! Most ~regular~ people haven’t. Kris revealed that her daughter, Khloé Kardashian , purchased the epic bag for her for Christmas. What a thoughtful, expensive as hell gift.

Kris Jenner has a shoe ROOM in her closet.

a

No, we’re not crying. You’re crying! A shoe ROOM? You know how most people store their shoes? Under their bed or in the beat up boxes they came in. This woman is a queen.

Kris Jenner has more Adidas tracksuits than any rapper in the game.

a

TBH, there’s definitely some Gucci and Givenchy in there, too. Kris admitted that tracksuits are her go-to outfit. How humble!

Kris Jenner has a handbag collection to literally die for.

Deal of the Day Blue Bathing suit 4-7-24

Deal of the Day

a

We didn’t think anything so beautiful could exist outside of a museum but, alas, here we are. Kris Jenner’s handbag collection is something most women (and fashion-forward men) could dream of. Chanel, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, bedazzled antiques you’ve never heard of — she’s got ’em all.

If you’re feeling especially self-conscious about your own closet at the moment, don’t worry. We are too. However, Kris made sure to note in the video that it’s taken her 62 years to build this level of perfection. So, let that be the perfect reminder that you have many more years to acquire an outrageous shopping addiction.

The head Jenner took her good friend and Judith Leiber creative director Dee Ocleppo Hilfiger on a closet tour that revealed her eye-popping collections of apparel, purses, luggage, shoes, and accessories.

Describing the luxurious hoard as a treasure trove that's been 62 years in the making, Kris happily told the stories of some of her favorite pieces and provided an insider's look of all her closet's major sections (because, yes, it's big enough to be sectioned into different areas).

We now know that her sparkly gowns have a separate space for themselves, while her evening purses and shoes are displayed museum-style in neat rows, her go-to outfits are designer sweatsuits, and her signature black blazers—of which she has at least 25—are all within reach for ease of styling.

Cute gifts from the most important people in Kris' life were also highlighted: a Judith Leiber purse she got in 1980 from her ex-husband Robert, personalized Goyard luggage gifted by Khloe last Christmas, and a butterfly clutch from Kylie, a fellow bag lover.

While all the contents of Kris' closet were nothing short of awe-inspiring, what was also eye-catching was its very setup. Arranging all her stylish possessions as if they were housed in an upscale boutique, Kris took the time to consider its layout and design.

Full-length mirrors are aplenty, a multi-purpose rectangular island lies at the center, and shelves are outfitted with back and top lighting to bring out even the smallest details of every piece she owns—something to consider for your next closet makeover!

Kris Jenner’s Closet Is A Literal Fashion Museum

kris jenner closet tour

Kris Jenner has finally given the world a peek inside her closet, and it's literally like a fashion museum. Dee Hilfiger, Judith Leiber creative director and friend of the Kardashian matriarch, joined Jenner in her massive Calabasas closet to give us the tour of a lifetime.

Buckle up, ladies and gents. It's everything you've ever dreamed it would be.

"You have to remember that this is 62 years of collecting. So, it's not like this just happened all at once," Jenner warned Hilfiger. But, let's be honest, most 62-year-olds barely have a small section of her epic closet.

This is where the magic happens.

kris jenner closet tour

"We shoot a television show almost every single day, so we have to have a lot of options," Jenner said.

Those options include a humble collection of over 25 black blazers, a section for designer gowns, a room for shoes, and a museum of Judith Leiber handbags. Let's break it all down.

kris jenner closet tour

Naturally, she started off by showing Hilfiger her massive collection of black blazers, which she also happens to be wearing in the video.

When you think "black blazer," you probably think of Jenner, right? We count at least 25 here, but there's definitely more than that.

kris jenner closet tour tracksuits

Tracksuits are the momager's go-to outfits on any given day, she told Hilfiger. That's probably why she has an unlimited number of them.

"This is what I wear every single day ... That's how I'm most comfortable," Jenner said.

kris jenner tracksuit

These are boss-lady scarves, according to Jenner, and they are stashed in a standalone dresser/counter/table in the center of the closet.

"We could go to any meeting like this and rock it, right?" Jenner said to Hilfiger. I mean, she's not wrong — they do look fabulous!

kris jenner closet tour

We can't forget her collection of monogrammed Goyard luggage displayed on top of her shelves (how does she get it down?).

She has multiple pieces from the set embellished with her initials, plus a trunk with the word "momager" in all caps. It was a gift from Khloé Kardashian last Christmas, she said.

Media Slide 8

Oh, and she basically has a closet inside her closet just for shoes. What, you don't?

She admitted, though, that she has a hard time picking out a pair. "I'm not as good at it as I used to be. So, I'm always calling my cousin CiCi, going, 'CiCi, what do I wear with this?' " she explained.

Media Slide 9

Then there's her handbag collection, which is filled with a lifetime's worth of Judith Leiber pieces.

Her purse collection gives  Kylie's  a run for its money.

Kris Jenner Shows Off Her '62 Years Of Collecting' Fashion in Swoon-Worthy Closet Tour

Kris Jenner ‘s massive closet is a fashionista’s dream.

The Kardashian-Jenner matriarch showed off her “62 years of collecting” to close friend and Judith Leiber Couture creative director Dee Hilfiger in an intimate closet tour that will leave you swooning.

“This is kind of where it all happens. We shoot a television show almost every single day, so we have to have a lot of choices,” Jenner explains as she shows off her impressive collection of gowns, blazers, handbags and shoes.

The KarJenner momager has a special section reserved for one staple in her wardrobe — black blazers — and keeps more than 20 lined up. But surprisingly, they aren’t what Jenner reaches for first when she’s getting dressed.

Looking for more style content? Click here to subscribe to the PeopleStyle Newsletter for amazing shopping discounts, can’t-live-without beauty products and more.

“This is what I wear every single day,” Jenner says as she points to her array of sweatsuits. “So this would be the first place, my first stop is a sweatsuit. And that is how I am most comfortable.”

Despite the size of her closet, Jenner admits every single piece holds a special place in her heart. “Some of the things I’ve had for so many years, the bag collection and every single thing I have has a really wonderful memory,” she says.

One of Jenner’s oldest pieces — a small champagne Judith Leiber Couture clutch — carries many memories. “The first every Judith Leiber bag I got was this one. Robert Kardashian gave this to me for Christmas in like 1980. Isn’t it beautiful? I don’t even, I am afraid to take it out these days. I don’t even want to use it anymore,” she says of the gift from her late ex-husband.

Another bag she cherishes is a crystal clutch from the label that she inherited from her late friend, Stephanie.

“This is very sentimental to me this one because my girlfriend Stephanie passed away about 10 years ago and her kids gave me this. It was hers. So I carry this with such love and a lot of great memories,” Jenner explains. “She was my friend for many, many years so that is very special to me.”

Take A Look Inside Kris Jenner’s $9.9M Estate Across The Street From Kim And Kanye

Kris Jenner's New House

After becoming one of America’s most recognizable celebrity matriarchs, it’s only natural to give yourself the gift of a luxurious home.

And as far as dwellings go, Kris Jenner knows what she’s doing. Her new $9.92 million home is beyond amazing, as is her story. Take a tour with us as we look at both the new home and amazing life of Kris Jenner…

Kris Jenner, Matriarch

Kris Jenner is the mother of six beautiful children: Kourtney, Kim, Khloe, Rob, Kendall, and Kylie. Many, if not every one, have become a household name in America. The Kardashians are arguably the most recognizable family today, second only to the Royal Family. Jenner’s children and grandchildren are proof positive that she’s, without a doubt, one of the most powerful celebrity matriarchs of our time.

A Castle Fit For A Queen

In medieval times, queens got castles. In modern America, they get million-dollar mansions, and Kris’s is no exception. With such a growing family tree it’s important to plant deep roots. Kris has done just that with her new $9.92 million California home.

Across From Kim And Kanye

Kris’s new home is close to her grandchildren, right across the street in fact. A move like that, whether intentional or not, shows Jenner’s devotion as a grandmother.

Land And Space

The mansion’s lush yard and gardens equal a staggering 55,757 square feet of land, plenty of room for the family to enjoy, or for future additions to the house.

A Born Entrepreneur

Some may wrongfully assume Kris had ridden the coattails of her fabulous family and doesn’t deserve to reap the benefits of their fame. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Kris is the reason her family earned the success that it has. She runs Jenner Communications, a production company out of LA, and she managed her daughter Kim’s career long before anyone was Keeping Up With The Kardashians. She also opened a boutique in 2004 called “Smooch” for her oldest daughter Kourtney.

An Open Living Space

Pictured here is a gorgeous living space within the new home. There’s plenty of room for the rugrats to roam while the family can sit back and relax.

A Dining Room To Die For

The distressed rug and matching chairs (which look incredibly comfortable) go well with the interior decor in the dining room. The contemporary light fixtures also look good, complimenting the artwork’s earthy tones.

Kulinary Kardashian

The magnificent kitchen features a combination of marble countertops and wooden cabinets with sleek black handles. There’s also plenty of room. Can’t have too many cooks, even if they are Kardashians, in this kitchen.

Published Author

This mother is also a writer, and not only a writer (everyone these days is a writer), but also a published author. In 2011, Kris released her autobiography titled: Kris Jenner… and All Things Kardashian. Then again in 2014 she released a cookbook called: In the Kitchen with Kris: A Kollection of Kardashian-Jenner Family Favorites.

Island Life

One mark of wealth, not to mention good taste, is the kitchen island, which of course this beautiful kitchen has. There’s nothing better than being able to prepare food while spending time with those you love, and an island allows the cook to socialize with their guests rather than having their back turned the whole time.

Kitchen Adjacent

Next to the kitchen is another, wonderfully illuminated dining area with enough seats for a slew of guests. It’s not hard to imagine celebrating the holidays at grandma Kris’s.

Wall Of Windows

A flood of sunlight rushes into the home each morning with windows like these. The view also allows Kris and her daughters keep an eye on the kids out back while staying cool inside.

Trying Her Hand At Daytime Television

Kris hosted her own daytime TV talk show, Kris, where Kanye introduced his and Kim’s eldest child to the world for the first time. The show only lasted a few weeks and was not extended, but that’s still longer than most pilots get.

Master Of The House

The Queen Suite is larger than most New York City apartments and comes fit with an immense place for beauty rest and even a common area with couches and chairs included. The rug mimics the one in the dining area and adds a contemporary feel to the grey tones of the furniture, throw pillows and bedspread.

Bath And Beyond

The spaciousness of this home is mesmerizing and the bathroom continues that tradition. Notice the bathing area equipped with a full bath and shower. And the view, replete with natural light, is rather amazing as well.

A Vein For Vanity

Looking at the bathroom from another angle allows us to see two additional mirrors and multiple sinks. This washroom was made for a perfectionist, but even for the naturally beautiful, things like this are still nice to have.

Keeping Up With Kris

Always looking to start something new, and an ingenious marketer to boot, Kim approached Ryan Seacrest, who owns his own production company, with an idea for a reality show based on her family. He thought it was a good idea and Keeping Up with the Kardashians has been on the air ever since. The series is currently 15 seasons (226 episodes) long.

What celebrity mansion doesn’t have a home theater? Kris keeps it classy here though, never overemphasizing her wealth nor compromising on taste. Sure, this is a “home theater,” but its seats are long sofas and the area is welcoming and wide open instead of secretly tucked away in some dark room.

What’s In A Name Anyway?

Kris wedded lawyer Robert Kardashian in 1987 and the union produced four wonderful children. Their marriage lasted 13 years, but the two remained close friends until Robert’s early death from cancer in 2003.

A Lavish Lounge

Enjoying a few cocktails or unwinding with a glass of wine is fine in this home bar. Besides, clubs are for kids anyway. Kris once again shows her sophistication with this lavish lounging area.

Budding Bond With Bruce

In 1991, one month after separating from Robert, Kris married her second love, former Olympian Bruce Jenner. The two had two equally beautiful daughters, Kendall and Kylie. The couple remained together until eventually divorcing in 2015.

Gorgeous Guest Bedroom

This is two bedrooms now that come equipped with full living areas (couch, chairs, coffee table) inside. It’s so luxurious inside this house, and unsurprisingly. Kris and her family ooze luxury whenever they’re in front of a camera, we should expect nothing less in their private lives.

Bountiful Boutique

This walk-in closet has more hanging and drawer space that a normal person would even know what to do with, let alone fill. I’m sure we’re not the only curious (jelly) ones dying to see what this space looks like after Kris is moved in.

Wait, You Mean There’s More?

Yes, yes there is. The simple fact that two different shots were needed to capture the size of this closet makes us realize we’ll probably never even catch up to the Kardashians, let alone keep up with them.

Multi-Generational

Kris is a matriarch with nine grandchildren at the time of writing, and there will likely be more in the coming years. Imagine how many of those grandchildren will have grandchildren of their own, and how such a remarkable family tree can be drawn back to Kris. People may dismiss the Kardashinas for whatever reasons they can conjure up, but at least they’ve taught the world one valuable truth: Raising a family is a wonderful thing!

Posh Poolside

When Kris wants to enjoy the warm weather without suffering the sun she can relax inside this poolside lounge. Imagine sitting under there during a thunderstorm…what a place to call home.

An Unfortunate Footnote

Being a close friend with the former wife of O.J. Simpson, Nicole Brown, and being married to the Juice’s lawyer at the time of the “Trial of the Century” Robert Kardashian, Kris will forever be tied to the tragic incident. But that’s merely a footnote in Kris’s life, and hardly a defining moment.

Swimsuit Soiree

Spending millions on a California pad would be a waste without an in-ground pool, no doubt about it. And there’s nothing like a warm summer day at home barbecuing and enjoying the good life with family and friends.

A Force For Faith

A little known tidbit about Kris is her devotion to the church. In 2012, she founded the California Community Church in Agoura Hills, California, with the help of Pastor Brad Johnson.

Last But Certainly Not Least

Here’s yet another breathtakingly gorgeous guest bedroom. This one comes with a garage door-sized window that opens completely, allowing whoever is lucky enough to spend the night a short walk onto a porch overlooking the yard. The house, like Kris herself, is simply stunning!

Drew Barrymore's Pencil-Thin Brows Are the Star of Her '90s Throwback Pic: 'My Tweezer and I Were Best Friends'

In the nostalgic snap, the talk show host rocks a pixie cut and razor-thin brows

Did Drew Barrymore just co-sign the skinny brow trend revival?

The 49-year-old actress and talk show host shared a throwback photo on Instagram that essentially serves as a ‘90s beauty time capsule. Long before “selfie” became an official word in the dictionary, Barrymore held up the camera to snap a photo of herself rocking a strawberry-blonde pixie cut, brown lipstick and barely-there eyebrows.

In the bottom right corner, the date stamp indicates the photo was taken on October 24, 1994, making Barrymore just 19 years old at the time.

The actress wears a white striped top and multicolor beaded necklace. In the background are the legs of a few passersby, all of which are wearing jeans.

“My tweezers and I were best friends at this time in my life!” she jokingly captioned the Thursday, April 25 post.

Fans in the comments are enjoying the trip down memory lane.

“It's ok though, because so was everyone else, love. 😅🤘🏻💜” one user wrote. "That was our biggest mistake in the 90’s 😢😢" said another. “I loved your hair in Boys on the Side !” one user commented, referring to the 1995 film in which Barrymore stars (and dons a short, blonde hairstyle).

One fan pointed out how beauty trends always come back around in the trend cycle. “It's amazing how the looks just keep coming back and forth,” they wrote. “My mom said she did that in the 30s. 😵‍💫 but Drew you are ageless and beautiful always inside and out😍

The skinny eyebrow trend has seen a resurgence in recent years thanks to celebs like Bella Hadid and Rihanna , but Barrymore helped popularize the look in the ‘90s. In 2018, Kim Kardashian reminisced on her Barrymore-inspired thin eyebrows after her mom, Kris Jenner, shared a ‘90s throwback photo on Instagram.

Never miss a story — sign up for  PEOPLE's free daily newsletter  to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.

“I look horrendous!” Kardashian commented on the photo that featured herself, Kris and her younger sisters Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner .

”I was obsessed with Drew Barrymore and her thin eyebrows! And I discovered glittery bronze eyeshadow.”

Charlize Theron also regrets the razor-thin eyebrows she sported in the '90s.

In an August 2023 interview with  InStyle , the Oscar-winning actress said her one beauty regret is: "Hands down, the thin eyebrows in the '90s."

"I'm still recovering from that,” she added.

In Transit: Notes from the Underground

Jun 06 2018.

Spend some time in one of Moscow’s finest museums.

Subterranean commuting might not be anyone’s idea of a good time, but even in a city packing the war-games treasures and priceless bejeweled eggs of the Kremlin Armoury and the colossal Soviet pavilions of the VDNKh , the Metro holds up as one of Moscow’s finest museums. Just avoid rush hour.

The Metro is stunning and provides an unrivaled insight into the city’s psyche, past and present, but it also happens to be the best way to get around. Moscow has Uber, and the Russian version called Yandex Taxi , but also some nasty traffic. Metro trains come around every 90 seconds or so, at a more than 99 percent on-time rate. It’s also reasonably priced, with a single ride at 55 cents (and cheaper in bulk). From history to tickets to rules — official and not — here’s what you need to know to get started.

A Brief Introduction Buying Tickets Know Before You Go (Down) Rules An Easy Tour

A Brief Introduction

Moscow’s Metro was a long time coming. Plans for rapid transit to relieve the city’s beleaguered tram system date back to the Imperial era, but a couple of wars and a revolution held up its development. Stalin revived it as part of his grand plan to modernize the Soviet Union in the 1920s and 30s. The first lines and tunnels were constructed with help from engineers from the London Underground, although Stalin’s secret police decided that they had learned too much about Moscow’s layout and had them arrested on espionage charges and deported.

The beauty of its stations (if not its trains) is well-documented, and certainly no accident. In its illustrious first phases and particularly after the Second World War, the greatest architects of Soviet era were recruited to create gleaming temples celebrating the Revolution, the USSR, and the war triumph. No two stations are exactly alike, and each of the classic showpieces has a theme. There are world-famous shrines to Futurist architecture, a celebration of electricity, tributes to individuals and regions of the former Soviet Union. Each marble slab, mosaic tile, or light fixture was placed with intent, all in service to a station’s aesthetic; each element, f rom the smallest brass ear of corn to a large blood-spattered sword on a World War II mural, is an essential part of the whole.

kris jenner closet tour

The Metro is a monument to the Soviet propaganda project it was intended to be when it opened in 1935 with the slogan “Building a Palace for the People”. It brought the grand interiors of Imperial Russia to ordinary Muscovites, celebrated the Soviet Union’s past achievements while promising its citizens a bright Soviet future, and of course, it was a show-piece for the world to witness the might and sophistication of life in the Soviet Union.

It may be a museum, but it’s no relic. U p to nine million people use it daily, more than the London Underground and New York Subway combined. (Along with, at one time, about 20 stray dogs that learned to commute on the Metro.)

In its 80+ year history, the Metro has expanded in phases and fits and starts, in step with the fortunes of Moscow and Russia. Now, partly in preparation for the World Cup 2018, it’s also modernizing. New trains allow passengers to walk the entire length of the train without having to change carriages. The system is becoming more visitor-friendly. (There are helpful stickers on the floor marking out the best selfie spots .) But there’s a price to modernity: it’s phasing out one of its beloved institutions, the escalator attendants. Often they are middle-aged or elderly women—“ escalator grandmas ” in news accounts—who have held the post for decades, sitting in their tiny kiosks, scolding commuters for bad escalator etiquette or even bad posture, or telling jokes . They are slated to be replaced, when at all, by members of the escalator maintenance staff.

For all its achievements, the Metro lags behind Moscow’s above-ground growth, as Russia’s capital sprawls ever outwards, generating some of the world’s worst traffic jams . But since 2011, the Metro has been in the middle of an ambitious and long-overdue enlargement; 60 new stations are opening by 2020. If all goes to plan, the 2011-2020 period will have brought 125 miles of new tracks and over 100 new stations — a 40 percent increase — the fastest and largest expansion phase in any period in the Metro’s history.

Buying Tickets

  • Ticket machines have a button to switch to English.
  • You can buy specific numbers of rides: 1, 2, 5, 11, 20, or 60. Hold up fingers to show how many rides you want to buy.
  • There is also a 90-minute ticket , which gets you 1 trip on the metro plus an unlimited number of transfers on other transport (bus, tram, etc) within 90 minutes.
  • Or, you can buy day tickets with unlimited rides: one day (218₽/ US$4), three days (415₽/US$7) or seven days (830₽/US$15). Check the rates here to stay up-to-date.
  • If you’re going to be using the Metro regularly over a few days, it’s worth getting a Troika card , a contactless, refillable card you can use on all public transport. Using the Metro is cheaper with one of these: a single ride is 36₽, not 55₽. Buy them and refill them in the Metro stations, and they’re valid for 5 years, so you can keep it for next time. Or, if you have a lot of cash left on it when you leave, you can get it refunded at the Metro Service Centers at Ulitsa 1905 Goda, 25 or at Staraya Basmannaya 20, Building 1.
  • You can also buy silicone bracelets and keychains with built-in transport chips that you can use as a Troika card. (A Moscow Metro Fitbit!) So far, you can only get these at the Pushkinskaya metro station Live Helpdesk and souvenir shops in the Mayakovskaya and Trubnaya metro stations. The fare is the same as for the Troika card.
  • You can also use Apple Pay and Samsung Pay.

Rules, spoken and unspoken

No smoking, no drinking, no filming, no littering. Photography is allowed, although it used to be banned.

Stand to the right on the escalator. Break this rule and you risk the wrath of the legendary escalator attendants. (No shenanigans on the escalators in general.)

Get out of the way. Find an empty corner to hide in when you get off a train and need to stare at your phone. Watch out getting out of the train in general; when your train doors open, people tend to appear from nowhere or from behind ornate marble columns, walking full-speed.

Always offer your seat to elderly ladies (what are you, a monster?).

An Easy Tour

This is no Metro Marathon ( 199 stations in 20 hours ). It’s an easy tour, taking in most—though not all—of the notable stations, the bulk of it going clockwise along the Circle line, with a couple of short detours. These stations are within minutes of one another, and the whole tour should take about 1-2 hours.

Start at Mayakovskaya Metro station , at the corner of Tverskaya and Garden Ring,  Triumfalnaya Square, Moskva, Russia, 125047.

1. Mayakovskaya.  Named for Russian Futurist Movement poet Vladimir Mayakovsky and an attempt to bring to life the future he imagined in his poems. (The Futurist Movement, natch, was all about a rejecting the past and celebrating all things speed, industry, modern machines, youth, modernity.) The result: an Art Deco masterpiece that won the National Grand Prix for architecture at the New York World’s Fair in 1939. It’s all smooth, rounded shine and light, and gentle arches supported by columns of dark pink marble and stainless aircraft steel. Each of its 34 ceiling niches has a mosaic. During World War II, the station was used as an air-raid shelter and, at one point, a bunker for Stalin. He gave a subdued but rousing speech here in Nov. 6, 1941 as the Nazis bombed the city above.

kris jenner closet tour

Take the 3/Green line one station to:

2. Belorusskaya. Opened in 1952, named after the connected Belarussky Rail Terminal, which runs trains between Moscow and Belarus. This is a light marble affair with a white, cake-like ceiling, lined with Belorussian patterns and 12 Florentine ceiling mosaics depicting life in Belarussia when it was built.

kris jenner closet tour

Transfer onto the 1/Brown line. Then, one stop (clockwise) t o:

3. Novoslobodskaya.  This station was designed around the stained-glass panels, which were made in Latvia, because Alexey Dushkin, the Soviet starchitect who dreamed it up (and also designed Mayakovskaya station) couldn’t find the glass and craft locally. The stained glass is the same used for Riga’s Cathedral, and the panels feature plants, flowers, members of the Soviet intelligentsia (musician, artist, architect) and geometric shapes.

kris jenner closet tour

Go two stops east on the 1/Circle line to:

4. Komsomolskaya. Named after the Komsomol, or the Young Communist League, this might just be peak Stalin Metro style. Underneath the hub for three regional railways, it was intended to be a grand gateway to Moscow and is today its busiest station. It has chandeliers; a yellow ceiling with Baroque embellishments; and in the main hall, a colossal red star overlaid on golden, shimmering tiles. Designer Alexey Shchusev designed it as an homage to the speech Stalin gave at Red Square on Nov. 7, 1941, in which he invoked Russia’s illustrious military leaders as a pep talk to Soviet soldiers through the first catastrophic year of the war.   The station’s eight large mosaics are of the leaders referenced in the speech, such as Alexander Nevsky, a 13th-century prince and military commander who bested German and Swedish invading armies.

kris jenner closet tour

One more stop clockwise to Kurskaya station,  and change onto the 3/Blue  line, and go one stop to:

5. Baumanskaya.   Opened in 1944. Named for the Bolshevik Revolutionary Nikolai Bauman , whose monument and namesake district are aboveground here. Though he seemed like a nasty piece of work (he apparently once publicly mocked a woman he had impregnated, who later hung herself), he became a Revolutionary martyr when he was killed in 1905 in a skirmish with a monarchist, who hit him on the head with part of a steel pipe. The station is in Art Deco style with atmospherically dim lighting, and a series of bronze sculptures of soldiers and homefront heroes during the War. At one end, there is a large mosaic portrait of Lenin.

kris jenner closet tour

Stay on that train direction one more east to:

6. Elektrozavodskaya. As you may have guessed from the name, this station is the Metro’s tribute to all thing electrical, built in 1944 and named after a nearby lightbulb factory. It has marble bas-relief sculptures of important figures in electrical engineering, and others illustrating the Soviet Union’s war-time struggles at home. The ceiling’s recurring rows of circular lamps give the station’s main tunnel a comforting glow, and a pleasing visual effect.

kris jenner closet tour

Double back two stops to Kurskaya station , and change back to the 1/Circle line. Sit tight for six stations to:

7. Kiyevskaya. This was the last station on the Circle line to be built, in 1954, completed under Nikita Khrushchev’ s guidance, as a tribute to his homeland, Ukraine. Its three large station halls feature images celebrating Ukraine’s contributions to the Soviet Union and Russo-Ukrainian unity, depicting musicians, textile-working, soldiers, farmers. (One hall has frescoes, one mosaics, and the third murals.) Shortly after it was completed, Khrushchev condemned the architectural excesses and unnecessary luxury of the Stalin era, which ushered in an epoch of more austere Metro stations. According to the legend at least, he timed the policy in part to ensure no Metro station built after could outshine Kiyevskaya.

kris jenner closet tour

Change to the 3/Blue line and go one stop west.

8. Park Pobedy. This is the deepest station on the Metro, with one of the world’s longest escalators, at 413 feet. If you stand still, the escalator ride to the surface takes about three minutes .) Opened in 2003 at Victory Park, the station celebrates two of Russia’s great military victories. Each end has a mural by Georgian artist Zurab Tsereteli, who also designed the “ Good Defeats Evil ” statue at the UN headquarters in New York. One mural depicts the Russian generals’ victory over the French in 1812 and the other, the German surrender of 1945. The latter is particularly striking; equal parts dramatic, triumphant, and gruesome. To the side, Red Army soldiers trample Nazi flags, and if you look closely there’s some blood spatter among the detail. Still, the biggest impressions here are the marble shine of the chessboard floor pattern and the pleasingly geometric effect if you view from one end to the other.

kris jenner closet tour

Keep going one more stop west to:

9. Slavyansky Bulvar.  One of the Metro’s youngest stations, it opened in 2008. With far higher ceilings than many other stations—which tend to have covered central tunnels on the platforms—it has an “open-air” feel (or as close to it as you can get, one hundred feet under). It’s an homage to French architect Hector Guimard, he of the Art Nouveau entrances for the Paris M é tro, and that’s precisely what this looks like: A Moscow homage to the Paris M é tro, with an additional forest theme. A Cyrillic twist on Guimard’s Metro-style lettering over the benches, furnished with t rees and branch motifs, including creeping vines as towering lamp-posts.

kris jenner closet tour

Stay on the 3/Blue line and double back four stations to:

10. Arbatskaya. Its first iteration, Arbatskaya-Smolenskaya station, was damaged by German bombs in 1941. It was rebuilt in 1953, and designed to double as a bomb shelter in the event of nuclear war, although unusually for stations built in the post-war phase, this one doesn’t have a war theme. It may also be one of the system’s most elegant: Baroque, but toned down a little, with red marble floors and white ceilings with gilded bronze c handeliers.

kris jenner closet tour

Jump back on the 3/Blue line  in the same direction and take it one more stop:

11. Ploshchad Revolyutsii (Revolution Square). Opened in 1938, and serving Red Square and the Kremlin . Its renowned central hall has marble columns flanked by 76 bronze statues of Soviet heroes: soldiers, students, farmers, athletes, writers, parents. Some of these statues’ appendages have a yellow sheen from decades of Moscow’s commuters rubbing them for good luck. Among the most popular for a superstitious walk-by rub: the snout of a frontier guard’s dog, a soldier’s gun (where the touch of millions of human hands have tapered the gun barrel into a fine, pointy blade), a baby’s foot, and a woman’s knee. (A brass rooster also sports the telltale gold sheen, though I am told that rubbing the rooster is thought to bring bad luck. )

Now take the escalator up, and get some fresh air.

I have personally researched, explored and shot Street Photography in every city that I create a guide for. So you can be ready to capture the streets as soon as you step outside with your camera!

At over 12 million people, Moscow is the largest city in Russia and second largest in Europe by population ( Istanbul is #1). An urban, cosmopolitan metropolis with more than enough glitz and glam to cater to the elite, but without losing its fair share of Soviet era roughness around the edges. It can be fast paced, brash, busy, and trendy like other big cities, but it has its blend of West meets Russia atmosphere and beauty that provides plenty of unique interest. The Red Square is as famous as it gets, but there’s so much more to this city, including the most beautiful subway system you’ve ever seen. It would take years to capture all of Moscow, but that means you have an endless amount of areas to discover.

The name actually doesn’t come from the color of the bricks or communism, but from the name in Russian, Krásnaya, once meaning “beautiful” before its meaning changed to “red.” This large plaza is what you see on the cover of guide books and magazines for Moscow, with St. Basil’s Cathedral being the center piece next to Lenin’s Mausoleum surrounded by the Kremlin Wall. Of course, the Red Square attracts hordes of tourist due to the main attractions, but all that activity around an interesting atmosphere does provide street photo opportunities. It’s also the central square connecting to the city’s major streets, providing a good starting point to explore outward.

You’ll also find the popular pedestrian only Nikolskaya Street connecting the Red Square to Lubyanka Square. This line of expensive shops includes plenty of activity, while also leading you to another popular square. Filled with history rivaling any city, the Red Square and surrounding areas are the heart and soul of Russia.

2. Patriarch’s Ponds

Patriarch’s Ponds is one of the most exclusive neighborhoods in Moscow. Despite the name being plural, there’s only one large pond, but it’s worth a visit with your camera. It’s a popular spot for locals and expats to come relax or take a stroll around the pond. You get an interesting mix of young and old too, from young love to “babushkas” feeding pigeons. It’s a very peaceful park atmosphere in one of the nicer areas within the city center, while bringing enough activity for street photography.

kris jenner closet tour

The pond is shallow and in the winter becomes a popular spot for ice-skating too. The area is also well-known for the location in the famous Russian novel, The Master and Margarita.

3. Old Arbat (Stary Arbat)

Old Arbat is the most famous pedestrian street in Moscow, and dating back to the 15th century, also one of its oldest. Originally, it was an area of trade, but soon became the most prestigious residential area in Moscow. During the 18th century, Arbat started attracting the city’s scholars and artists, including Alexander Pushkin. Cafes lined the streets and impressive homes filled the neighborhood. Since then, New Arbat street was created as a highway in the area, while Old Arbat was paved for a 1km pedestrian only walkway.

kris jenner closet tour

Due to the historic buildings, famous artists that lived here, and the bohemian atmosphere, Old Arbat has become a big attraction for tourists today. Now, there’s a mix of cafes, restaurants, souvenir shops, street performers, street merchants and other attractions for visitors, and some locals, to come enjoy. It can get really busy here and there’s usually something interesting going on so it’s a good street to come walk with your camera for guaranteed life.

4. Gorky Park

One of the most famous places in Moscow is Gorky Park. The official name is Maxim Gorky’s Central Park of Culture & Leisure, which gives you an idea of what goes on here. When built, it was the first of its kind in the Soviet Union. Divided into two parts, it stretches along Moscow River. One end contains fair rides, foods stands, tennis courts, a sports club, a lake for boat rides, and more. This end brings more active life due to its number of attractions, while the other end is more relaxed, where you’ll find gardens, trees, older buildings, and an outdoor amphitheater.

kris jenner closet tour

Gorky Park attracts mostly locals so it’s a good spot to capture the non-tourist side of Moscow life. Muscovites come here to escape the city and unwind in a picturesque setting. The park remains alive outside of the warmer months too, especially when the lake turns into the city’s largest outdoor skating rink. I’d recommend taking the metro out here to spend at least half a day exploring the massive park’s life with your camera.

5. Maroseyka Street

Maroseyka Street is a popular area not too far from the Red Square. The long, winding street turns into Pokrovka and is lined with restaurants, cafes, bars and places to stay. It’s actually where I like to stay when I’m in Moscow due to its location and solid street photography opportunities itself. You have Kitay-gorod station near and if you keep walking southwest, you’ll get to the Red Square. But if you walk northwest, as it changes to Pokrovka, you can find a long street of activity for photography with its own interesting atmosphere.

6. Tverskoy Boulevard

Tverskoy Boulevard is the oldest and longest boulevard in Moscow, beginning at the end of Nikitsky Boulevard, and finishing at Pushkin Square, a spot to come for activity itself. The boulevard is made up of two avenues, with pedestrian walkways in-between. You’ll find grass, shrubbery, trees, benches and more walking it’s almost kilometer length. Many people come here to enjoy some relaxation, walk their dog, or just to use it to walk wherever they’re going. Its center location also provides a nice place to walk with your camera near plenty of other spots you’ll want to check out anyway.

Sample Street Walk:

For a full day of Street Photography, covering some of the best spots, you can follow this sample street walk for Moscow:

  • Start your morning walking around the Red Square (1), while exploring the surrounding area, including Nikolskaya Street
  • Then walk northwest to Patriarch’s Ponds (2) and slowly walk the pond and surrounding area with your camera
  • Next, walk east to the Pushkin Monument and stroll down Tverskoy Boulevard (6)
  • Once Tverskoy Boulevard (6) ends, it will turn into Nikitsky Boulevard. Follow this down until you get to the start of Old Arbat Street (3), across from Arbatskaya station
  • After you’re done walking down Old Arbat Street (3) for more street photography, spend some time checking out Moscow’s beautiful metro stations
  • To finish off the day with more street photography, get off the metro near Red Square (1) again, Maroseyka Street (5) or wherever you’re staying for the night.

3 Things I’ll Remember about Shooting in Moscow:

1. museum metro.

The Moscow metro system was the first underground railway system in the Soviet Union and today includes 203 stations across 340km of routes. The elaborate system has some of the deepest stations in the world too, with escalators that seem to go on forever. None of this is what makes it so special, though. Many of its stations feel like stepping inside a museum, making it without a doubt the most interesting and beautiful metro system I’ve been in.

kris jenner closet tour

When built, Stalin wanted to make the metro stations “palaces for the people” with marble, chandeliers, and grand architecture. The best part is the variety of architecture and styles used, making many of the stations a completely different experience visually. You could easily spend a whole day traveling the stations and there are even tours available for people who wish to do just that. My advice, though, would be just to buy a ticket and hop on and off at different stations, while exploring different lines. The museum-like surrounding mixed with the crowds of characters can make for a great photography experience.

kris jenner closet tour

Since there are so many stations, here are some of my favorites to check out:

  • Novoslobodskaya
  • Mayakovskaya
  • Elektrozavodskaya
  • Komsomolskaya
  • Ploschad Revolyutsii
  • Dostoyevskaya
  • Prospekt Mira

2. Moscow is Big

It’s no secret that Moscow is a big city, but it can feel even bigger with how spread out much of it is. This is especially true if you compare it to cities outside of Asia. If I compared it to cities in Europe, I’d probably say only Istanbul would warrant more time to really discover the depths of this city. Most only explore around the Red Square and surrounding area, but that is such a small part of the city. Although, that central area does give you plenty to see on its own.

kris jenner closet tour

Fortunately, I had a good friend living in the city to show me around, but it opened up my eyes even more to how much there is to discover in Moscow. It’s a big city with a variety of atmosphere that can take you from “east” to “west” and trendy to rugged depending on where you go. I’d imagine you’d have to live here a while to really know the city.

3. Cosmopolitan Mix of East meets West

Modern skyscrapers mixed with amazing architecture, a world-class metro system with museum-like beauty, trendy fashion and chic clubs, Moscow is a rich mix of Russian culture and history in a more western cosmopolitan package. There is a push to keep the Russian culture, while also pushing forward with a modern metropolis the whole world will envy. This comes with an impressive skyline, that continues to grow, and endless modernities, but with soviet nostalgia and atmosphere mixed in for good measure.

kris jenner closet tour

Mixed in with this grand western cosmopolitan atmosphere, is a strong national pride in Russia. This includes their famous leader, Vladimir Putin. Maybe no other place will you see a country’s leader more often. All over, from the pricey tourist shops to the underground walkway stalls, you’ll find goods with Putin’s likeness covering them. From t-shirts to magnets to Matryoshka dolls. There’s a strong national pride that can be seen around the city, which also extends to their leader. Moscow is many things. It’s East meets West, modernizations meets Soviet era, and a whole lot more.

What To Do For a Street Photography Break?:

Eat at a stolovaya.

Stolovayas are Russian cafeterias that became popular in the Soviet days. You grab a tray and walk down the line of freshly prepared local dishes, and select whatever you want from the chefs. They’re usually inexpensive and a much better value than restaurants, while giving you the opportunity to try from a wide selection of everyday Russian food. They’re also very tasty. I always include some borsch on my tray and go from there. The places themselves are all over Moscow and usually come with Soviet-era aesthetics to complete the experience.

Street Safety Score: 7

*As always, no place is completely safe! So when I talk about safety, I’m speaking in general comparison to other places. Always take precaution, be smart, observe your surroundings and trust your instincts anywhere you go!

Being the 2nd largest city in Europe with over 12 million people, you’re going to have your dangerous areas, but for the most part, it feels safe walking around. Russia is statistically higher in crime compared to most of Europe, but this generally doesn’t apply to tourists and visitors. Around the Red Square and surrounding city center, you should feel completely safe walking around. Pick pocketing can happen, but no more than other touristic places. I always explore Moscow freely without coming across too much to worry about. It’s a spread out city, though, so of course it matters where you are. Just use basic street smarts, know where you are and Moscow shouldn’t give you a problem.

kris jenner closet tour

People’s Reaction Score: 7

Moscow is fast paced, big city life, which usually means people aren’t too concerned with you, or your camera. I don’t find people notice or pay much attention to me when I’m out taking photos in Moscow. For the most part, people just go about their day. You shouldn’t get too many looks or concern. But it can depend on the area you are in. The more you stick out, the more you might get noticed with suspicions. I’ve never had any problems in Moscow, or Russia, but just be careful who you’re taking a photo of if you get out of the city center. Other than that, it’s about average for reactions.

Street Tips:

Learn the alphabet .

Much of Moscow, including the metro system, doesn’t use english. The Russian alphabet uses letters from the Cyrillic script, which if you aren’t familiar with it and don’t know the sounds, can be hard to decipher the words. This is most important for street names and metro stops when trying to get around. It can save confusion and make it easier getting around if you learn the basic alphabet. At the very least then, you can sound out the words to see which are similar in the english conversion, which can help matching them to maps. When out shooting street photography, getting around is as important as anything. So save yourself some time and frustration by learning the Russian Alphabet.

Use the metro

While Saint-Petersburg feels very walkable for a city its size, Moscow can feel very spread out, even for its bigger size. Outside of the Red Square area, you can have plenty of walking before getting anywhere very interesting, so you’ll need to take the metro a lot if you really want to explore the city. Maps are deceiving here too, it will always be further than it looks.

kris jenner closet tour

Another reason it’s less walkable than Saint-Petersburg is its completely different set-up. Moscow’s streets are mostly contstructed in rings with narrow, winding streets in-between. This is common with medieval city cities that used to be confined by walls, but you usually don’t have it in a city this massive. Saint-Petersburg has a more grid-like pattern that also uses the canals to help you know your way around. When it comes to navigating on foot in Moscow, it can be more difficult, so bring a map and take the metro when needed. It’s why Moscow’s metro carries more passengers per day than the London and Paris subways combined.

Explore other areas if you have time

Moscow is really big. While most people stay around the Red Square within the Boulevard Ring, there’s so much more to the city. I covered some other spots outside of this circle, but if you really want to see the city, you’ll need time. If you do have time, some other areas I’d check out first are Zamoskvarechye, along some of the south and western Moscow.

For some more inspiration, you can look through the Street Photography of Moscow photographer Artem Zhitenev  and check out 33 of my photos taken in Moscow .

Conclusion:

Moscow’s name brings a certain mystique, but once you’re there it might bring a different atmosphere than you expect. It’s big and sprawling, but beautiful in many ways. It can feel like a European capital on a grand scale, but you can definitely find its Russian side in there.

kris jenner closet tour

The urban sprawl of Moscow can be intimidating, but give it enough time and you’ll be rewarded with plenty to discover. All with the world’s best metro system to take you around.

I hope this guide can help you start to experience some of what Moscow contains. So grab your camera and capture all that Moscow has to offer for Street Photography!
