Harry Potter: The 15 Most Popular Draco & Hermione Fics On AO3

The chamber of secrets movie made a frustrating mistake that haunted the harry potter series for 8 years, there's a very good reason harry potter didn't name his kids after this battle of hogwarts hero.

The Harry Potter Universe is full of magical conveniences. For instance, when Harry breaks his glasses, they can be repaired with a R eparo  charm, and  Molly Weasley can use magic to do the washing up and other housework. However, perhaps one of the best conveniences magic can provide is transport based.

RELATED:  Harry Potter: The Best Location From Every Movie

As Muggles, we all need to make our way from point A to point B in a dull, and often slow manner, whether it be by car, bus, or several hours on an airplane. On the other hand, wizards can instantly transport from one city to another, or even fly magical creatures or machines. This article will list the 10 best magical means of transport.

Floo Powder

Traveling via the Floo Network is one of the first instances of magical transportation seen in the Harry Potter Universe . In the  Chamber of Secrets , Harry and the Weasleys attempt to travel to Diagon Alley via the Floo Network. Traveling via Floo Network works by standing in a fireplace, clearly shouting the name of your target location, and then dropping some Floo Powder.

However, during the Chamber of Secrets,  Harry does not pronounce 'Diagon Alley' clearly enough and ends up in Borgin and Burkes in Knockturn Alley instead. While Floo Powder is an interesting way to travel it isn't the most graceful, certainly not when quicker and cleaner methods exist, such as apparition.

A portkey is an enchanted object that will bring anyone who touches it to a pre-arranged location. The first portkey seen in Harry Potter is in the  Goblet of Fire , when Harry and the gang take the 'manky old boot' to the Quidditch World Cup. Portkeys are useful for wizards who cannot apparate or for traveling to those locations that do not have a fireplace.

While portkeys are an interesting way to travel, they are not as easy or convenient as apparition and so it cannot be ranked too high on this list.

This one may be a controversial addition to this list, but it is certainly an arguable addition. While the Knight Bus will not provide the most comfortable means of transport, it is certainly a fun and fast way to travel. Additionally, the Knight Bus is also economically sound as riding the bus costs eleven sickles, regardless of how far you are traveling.

Think of the Knight Bus as a theme park ride and you will have fun while riding it. Sure, it might be slower and less convenient than apparating or taking the Floo Network, but it will certainly be more memorable.

The broomstick is a classic way of travel for wizards. Not only does it allow wizards to travel quickly between two points, but it is also a huge part of wizard culture due to its involvement in Quidditch . Without the broom, everyone's favorite fictional sport wouldn't exist.

That being said, the reason why this is so low on the list is due to the comfort of broomstick riding. Honestly, sitting on a wooden stick would be incredibly uncomfortable, especially if you're traveling a significant distance.

What's better than a car? A flying car that can turn invisible! Fortunately, this vehicle exists in the  Harry Potter Universe  with its flying Ford Anglia.

While the main downside to the broomstick is its lack of comfort, the flying car does not have this issue. Furthermore, there is also a roof over your head to prevent any potential weather concerns and space for a car radio to provide entertainment for any long journey. The inclusion of the Ford Anglia in the Chamber of Secrets even managed to make the price of this model skyrocket in the muggle world.

Apparation is probably the most efficient method of transport on this list. Essentially, apparition is magical teleportation. Whenever a wizard apparates, they are instantly transported to their intended location.

If you master the skill you will no longer have to take public transport to work or pay for your car’s fuel. You will simply appear at your target location and you’re good to go. However, there are some drawbacks to apparition. For instance, apparition does not work over exceptionally long distances and there are some risks if the apparition is not carried out successfully, such as splinching. That being said, the only reason why this isn’t first placed is that there are methods of transport that are more stylish.

Is there a moment in Harry Potter that conveys more unbridled joy than the scene in the  Prisoner of Azkaban   in which Harry rides Buckbeak?

RELATED:  Harry Potter: 5 Creatures We'd Want As Pets (& 5 We Definitely Would Not)

Everything about this scene makes riding a hippogriff look amazing. The background music, the expression on Harry's face, and even Buckbeak's regal expression and the way he skims the surface of the Black Lake. Hippogriff transport, then, would be amazing. Not only do you have a way to fly from point A to point B, but you also have a loyal pet as well.

While thestrals were first  seen  in the  Order of the Phoenix , they had appeared in earlier movies. The carriages that take students to Hogwarts, while appearing to look like they pull themselves, are actually pulled by thestrals. Thestrals are only visible to those who have seen death, which is why they are not seen by most students.

Many of the thrills you would get from riding a hippogriff would also apply to riding a thestral. The only differences being that, to those who cannot see the thestral, you will appear to be flying in a seated position and to those who can see the thestral, you will look gothic and edgy.

Hogwarts Express

Is there a more iconic vehicle in Harry Potter than the Hogwarts Express ? It not only takes Harry, Ron, and Hermione to Hogwarts for the first time but it also takes  us  to Hogwarts for the first time.

While it might appear to be nothing more than a train, we ought to also consider the destination. If you're taking the Hogwarts Express it means that you're heading to Hogwarts (unless you're catching it back to King's Cross, but then you've already been to Hogwarts anyway)! Everything from the face of the train, to the carriages, to the sweet trolley is iconic and it would be a dream come true for millions to ride this train.

While this event was only seen once in canon, it was certainly memorable. In the Order of the Phoenix,  Dumbledore is set to be arrested by a group from the Ministry of Magic including Percy Weasley, Dolores Umbridge, and Kingsley Shacklebolt. However, just when you think the headmaster is cornered with nowhere to go, Dumbledore claims he 'will not go quietly' then raises his hands and claps as Fawkes the phoenix appears and with a huge, fiery explosion Dumbledore and Fawkes had disappeared.

Essentially, this was a phoenix's form of apparition. While, basically, it does the same thing as apparition, it does it with magnificent style. If normal apparition is like driving a Ford, phoenix apparition is like driving an Aston Martin.

Potterheads have an eight-movie film franchise that never gets old, inspiring quotes from the novels, an actual Universal Studios theme park , and thousands of addictive fan fiction stories . And yet another element to add to the dynamic magical universe is a literal language created by Rowling, comprised of dozens of spells, charms, and hexes that Harry Potter wouldn't be complete without.

On WizardingWorld.com, it's explained : "The origins of many incantations [harken] back to Latin terms and phrases; some spells translate pretty directly, while others have been carefully crafted and assembled from fragments of other languages."

From A lohomora and E xpelliarmus to The Patronus Charm —and, of course, Wingardium Leviosa —we've included a complete Harry Potter spells list below with the series' most notable charms. If you want to continue to learn them on your own, there are also two popular book guides: The Unofficial Ultimate Harry Potter Spellbook and The Unofficial Harry Potter Spellbook . (Similar names, but different, we promise.)

The 10 Best Modes Of Transportation In Harry Potter

In the Wizarding World, witches and wizards can easily get around by using the spells, magical vehicles, or Thestrals in Harry Potter.

Magic made witches and wizards' lives easier in almost every way in the Harry Potter franchise. Wizards could summon any object they desired, change their appearances with potions, and perform unique spells. Additionally, many modes of transportation made traveling through the Wizarding World quick and easy.

RELATED: 10 Most Dangerous Hogwarts Lessons In Harry Potter

Witches and wizards rarely wasted their time with Muggle transportation, such as cars or buses, because they could get where they wanted to go in the blink of an eye. Due to these excellent transportation methods, wizards and witches of all ages hardly had an excuse for being late.

10 Students Learned Flying From A Young Age

Madam Hooch, the Quidditch referee , introduced first-year Hogwarts students to flying on a broomstick. Their lessons progressed from summoning the broom to their hand to zipping through the sky at extreme speeds. Some students, like Harry, were naturals on a broom. Others, like Neville, were less coordinated and got hurt.

The characters utilized broomsticks frequently to fly through the Muggle world, including when Order members rescued Harry from the Dursleys. While flying could be slightly dangerous for young children, it was a fun, fast, and exhilarating form of travel once they mastered the skill.

9 The Hogwarts Express Was A Magical Experience For Kids

Each year, young witches and wizards took the Hogwarts Express from King's Cross in London to Hogwarts, often excited to start a new year learning spells, potions, and other magical skills. The Hogwarts Express was a large, red train with individual compartments and a snack trolley.

RELATED: 10 Most Wholesome Harry Potter Friendships

For most Muggle-born or half-blood children, the Hogwarts Express was their first real introduction to magic and the world they were entering. While unfortunate situations occurred on the train, like a Dementor attack, it was still reliable and exciting transportation for kids.

8 Flying Cars Were Fun But Risky

Arthur Weasley enchanted a Ford Anglia to fly and become invisible upon command. Before his imprisonment in Azkaban, Sirius Black charmed a large motorcycle and sidecar, which Hagrid borrowed. After Sirius' death, Harry became the motorcycle's rightful owner.

The Ministry of Magic banned wizards from enchanting Muggle transportation, as it was a "Misuse of Muggle Artifacts" violation. Unfortunately, Muggles spotted Ron and Harry flying the Anglia to Hogwarts before their second year, and Arthur consequently faced an inquiry at the Ministry. While it was a fun way to travel, it might not have been worth the risk.

7 While Portkeys Were Fast, They Left The Users Feeling Sick

Wizards frequently used Portkeys as a fast and convenient mode of travel. A Portkey was an everyday object that was enchanted to bring its user to a specific location in the blink of an eye. For example, when first introduced in Goblet of Fire , the students used a Portkey to travel to the Quidditch World Cup.

Later, Harry and Cedric grabbed the Triwizard Tournament Cup, which Barty Crouch, Jr. charmed to transport them to Voldemort's feet. Unfortunately, as quick as Portkeys were, they often left the users feeling nauseous and dizzy, so wizards had to consider whether the risk was worth the reward.

6 Wizards Had To Speak Very Clearly When Using Floo Powder

The Floo Network was an interconnected system that allowed users to travel from one connected fireplace to another. Users threw bright green Floo Powder into a lit fireplace and called out where they wanted to go. Wizards had to register fireplaces in the Floo Network to use them but could also temporarily use Muggle fireplaces in emergencies.

The Ministry of Magic monitored the Floo Network, which was disastrous when Death Eaters corrupted the agency before the Second Wizarding War. Additionally, if the wizard didn't speak clearly, they could end up somewhere completely different. This was seen when Harry accidentally said "diagonally" instead of "Diagon Alley."

5 Durmstrang Utilized A Magical Pirate Ship

When Durmstrang students came to Hogwarts to compete in the Triwizard Tournament, they showed up in style. The wizards appeared in a giant enchanted pirate ship that traveled underwater, similar to a submarine.

RELATED: 10 Harsh Realities Of Living In The Wizarding World

The ship had a skeletal appearance and large masts, emerging from under the water to the Hogwarts students' amazement. The Durmstrang students operated the boat while Headmaster Igor Karkaroff stayed in his cabin, so it was likely easy to drive. It looked fantastic and was an attention-grabbing way to get across bodies of water.

4 Thestrals Were Only Visible To Those Who Had Seen Death

Wizards widely misunderstood Thestrals, as many viewed them as bad omens because they were only visible to those who had seen death. However, the skeletal, winged horses were loyal and relatively gentle creatures when unprovoked.

Thestrals' wings allowed them to pull the Hogwarts carriages and fly riders if needed. Harry, Luna, and their friends rode Thestrals to the Ministry of Magic as a last resort to save Sirius from Voldemort . While some couldn't see the creatures, Thestrals were a reliable and quick form of transportation in an emergency.

3 The Knight Bus Was A Thrill Ride Through London

Harry rode the Knight Bus when he fled Privet Drive after accidentally inflating his Aunt Marge, and it dropped him off at the Leaky Cauldron. The purple, triple-decker bus had staff, including driver Ernie Prang, conductor Stan Shunpike, and a shrunken head who helped Ernie spot obstacles.

RELATED: 10 Harsh Realities Of Reading The Harry Potter Books

The Knight Bus could inexplicably avoid objects, squeeze in tiny spaces, and stop on the turn of a dime. It was extraordinarily fast and tossed riders about the cabin, often leaving them feeling shaken or even sick. While it could be exhilarating, it wasn't good transportation for the faint of heart.

2 Vanishing Cabinets Could Be Dangerous In The Wrong Hands

Vanishing cabinets were popular during the First Wizarding War as they provided fast and secure transport for Death Eaters. A pair of vanishing cabinets allowed users to move from one location to another discreetly, and they could even store objects within them.

Draco used vanishing cabinets to transport Death Eaters from Borgin and Burkes to Hogwarts, which led to Dumbledore's assassination during the Battle of the Astronomy Tower. While cabinets were a safe and reliable form of transportation, they could be extremely dangerous when used by the wrong wizards.

1 Wizards Got To Apparate When They Came Of Age

Sixth-year Hogwarts students began learning Apparition, which was a dangerous but excellent way to get around the Wizarding World. Users could instantly disappear and reappear when Apparating by concentrating on a specific location. Unfortunately, it wasn't the most comfortable experience, as Harry stated that it felt like squeezing through a rubber tube.

When using this method, wizards had to have total concentration because they could splinch and lose body parts if they messed up. Nevertheless, Harry, Ron, and Hermione used it frequently while on the run from Death Eaters, and Dumbledore used it during his hunt for Horcruxes . Apparating was an extremely difficult and dangerous skill, but once perfected, it was the best way for wizards to travel.

'Harry Potter:' 10 Coolest Spells That We Wish We Could Cast

These spells would make everyday living so much easier.

Harry Potter is filled with many spells and casts throughout the series that we muggles wish we could use in our everyday lives. Everyone would choose the exciting life of a wizard instead of a muggle any day due to the beautiful school, the unique snacks, and, of course, the cool spells and potions .

RELATED: Harry Potter: Most Powerful Defense Against the Dark Arts Teachers, Ranked

Some spells we have desperately tried at home as a child are: Oculus Reparo , Wingardium Leviosa , and Immobulus . These spells would make our lives much easier, happier, and more entertaining. It almost frustrates us that we never got our Hogwarts invitation letter.

'Anapneo'

The spell Anapneo clears someone's airway when choking by making the hazardous object vanish from their throat. This spell was used twice, first on Celestina Warbeck choking on a frog and second on Marcus Welby, who choked on a piece of pheasant.

RELATED: 10 Things From the 'Harry Potter' Films That Only Make Sense if You Read the Books

This spell would be a brilliant asset to reality as many lives could be saved due to no one ever choking again. Although if we are alone, it would be a bit difficult to use it on ourselves if an object is lodged in our throat.

'Apparate'

Apparate is a non-verbal transportation spell that allows a witch or wizard to travel instantly and appear at another location. Harry ( Daniel Radcliffe ) first experienced this spell with Dumbledore ( Michael Gambon ) in The Half-Blood Prince as he grabbed his arm and began being pressed in all directions.

Apparation would remove any need for everyday transportation, saving money, reducing carbon emissions, and overall saving time. However, this spell comes with the consequence of great discomfort while transporting and so it may not be preferable for all.

'Brackium Emendo'

The spell Brackium Emendo heals broken bones, as seen when Professor Lockhart ( Kenneth Branagh ) tries to heal Harry's broken arm with this spell but instead accidentally removes the bone; Lockhart then adjusts the spell to heal his leg back to full function.

Everyone who has experienced a broken bone would certainly understand the extreme pain felt by this situation and its slow healing process. Being able to heal this broken bone instantaneously would be worth the potential temporary loss of the bone.

Disillusionment Charm

The Disillusionment Charm causes the target to take on the appearance of its surroundings, like the Invisibility Cloak. They were taught this spell by Professor Filius Flitwick ( Warwick Davis ) for the Ordinary Wizarding Levels in the subject in the 1988 - 1989 school year.

This spell would be handy for everyone who states they would love to be a fly on the wall in certain situations. For all curious people who would love to live vicariously through others. However, this spell could easily be used for nefarious purposes, so this one comes with a big caveat.

'Immobulus'

The spell Immobulus immobilizes living targets resulting in them being unable to move, essentially freezing them. This spell is used by Hermione ( Emma Watson ) in class to freeze chaotic pixies making a mess in the classroom, and put them back in their cage.

RELATED: Most Powerful Wizards in the Harry Potter Universe, Ranked

This spell would be a brilliant asset to increase safety throughout society. It could be used to freeze people afflicting violence or robbers in the act until the police get there to take them away safely. It ensures dangerous actions are stopped before they begin.

'Oculus Reparo'

The spell Oculus Reparo is used to repair eyeglasses. It is used in the first movie when Harry is introduced to Hermione, and she shows him the spell that fixes his glasses. It only specifically repairs glasses and not other inanimate objects.

This spell would be handy for anyone who has experienced waking up and seeing they have slept with their glasses on and broke them in their sleep, sat on their glasses, or dropped them. This spell is very limited in that it can only fix glasses, but useful for the number of times glasses are broken.

'Piertotum Locomotor'

The spell Piertotum Locomotor is an incantation used to bring inanimate objects and artifacts to life. Dumbledore uses this spell to bring statues to life to protect Harry against Bellatrix Lestrange ( Helena Bonham Carter ) and Voldemort's ( Ralph Fiennes ) killing curse.

RELATED: 15 Movies Like 'Harry Potter' to Watch For a Magical Adventure

This spell would make every child's life happier as they would be able to bring their loved teddy bears to life. This would give them an adorable best friend. It also has practical uses: companies, small and large, can make automatons to help with manual labor, from moving heavy objects to operating machinery.

'Scourgify'

The spell Scourgify is used to clean objects and clean out infestations of bundimun, a magical living fungus. This spell is used by Nymphadora Tonks ( Natalia Tena ) to clean Harry Potter's pet snowy owl Hedwig's cage. This spell removed the loose feathers and owls' droppings.

This spell would help everyone's everyday lives by cleaning the dishes, cleaning floors, dusting, cleaning animal cages, and tidying our rooms. It would give us a lot more time to do other things as chores would be removed from our daily planners.

'Tarantallegra'

The spell Tarantallegra is aimed at the legs, causing uncontrollable dancing movement: it's also known as the dancing feet spell. It was created in Italy and improperly used by warlock Zaccaria Innocenti who conjured a "dance" within Mount Vesuvius.

This spell would be great for those who have shy friends that refuse to ever step on the dance floor with them. You would always have a dance partner now, whether they liked it or not. Weddings, nightclubs, and proms would never have another person sitting on the staircase crying because no one would dance with them.

'Wingardium Leviosa'

Wingardium Leviosa causes an object to levitate. This spell was used in the first movie where Ron ( Rupert Grint ) is struggling to say the spell right; Hermione corrects him leading to Ron later being able to make a troll's bat float resulting in the troll's defeat.

This spell would be brilliant for anyone too comfy in their seat to stand up and grab the remote. With this spell, we could levitate it over to us with one flick of the wrist.

Time Travel

"Don't you understand? We're breaking one of the most important wizarding laws! Nobody's supposed to change time, nobody!" -- Hermione Granger ( PA21 )

Time Travel

Time travel is an extremely dangerous magical effect which allows a person to travel back in time. Because of the potential for catastrophe should history be altered, time travel is all but forbidden in wizarding society. Certain magical devices can be used for time travel, but access to them is strictly controlled.

References from the canon

  • Hermione once used a Time-Turner to repeat hours of the day and take more classes than would otherwise have been possible ( PA21 ).
  • The Pensieve and Tom Riddle's diary allowed a form of time travel, although the person or persons traveling were not actually part of the time they entered. Instead, they became observers, unseen and unheard. This form of time travel is tied to stored memories and the traveller views the past from a vantage point near the person whose memories are used. This form of time travel might be better termed "memory travel." ( CS13 , CS17 , GF30 , OP28 , HBP10 , HBP13 , HBP17 , HBP23 , DH33 )
  • Time is studied in one of the rooms of the Department of Mysteries; a Death Eater whose head fell into a huge bell jar in that room was changed from the neck up into a baby ( OP35 ).

6 Must-visit 'Harry Potter' Filming Locations in Oxford, England

Step into the Wizarding World at these real-life locations from "Harry Potter."

travel spell harry potter

Many fans think of London when they think of Harry Potter , and while the city is home to myriad filming locations, it's Oxford, England that really oozes Hogwarts' vibes. Located about 60 miles from London, Oxford is where numerous Harry Potter scenes were filmed across Oxford's colleges. Walking past medieval and Gothic architecture, you feel as if you might bump into Hermione, Ron, or Harry himself. Here are some of the most iconic Harry Potter filming locations in Oxford for your next Potter pilgrimage.

Christ Church Staircase

Transporting us back to the early Harry Potter films, this famous staircase was used in numerous scenes in "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" and "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets." Harry, Hermione, Ron, and others walk to the top of the staircase to meet Professor McGonagall in "Sorcerer's Stone." In the second film, after Harry and Ron miss the Hogwarts Express train and have to get to Hogwarts in the Weasleys' car, the duo ascends these stairs only to find Argus Filch, Hogwarts' grumpy caretaker. The staircase is also where a flashback scene shows Tom Riddle chatting with Dumbledore in "Chamber of Secrets." Christ Church is a working school and religious institution, so a ticket is required for non-students.

Christ Church Cloisters

The site of Christ Church was originally founded as a monastery in the eighth century. Cloisters were common in monasteries because they provided a sheltered space for monks to walk undisturbed. The cloisters at Christ Church are spectacular, with Gothic architecture and intricate design details. These cloisters can be seen in "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" as a hallway at Hogwarts where Harry sees the trophy his father won as a seeker in Quidditch (the wizarding world's favorite game). It's here that Hermione explains to Harry that being a seeker is in his blood. You can see the cloisters with a ticket to Christ Church.

Christ Church Dining Hall

While no filming took place here, Christ Church's dining hall served as inspiration for Hogwarts' Great Hall. Photographs of the hall were used to create a set at the London studios, and it's easy to see the similarities. High ceilings, long dining tables with a head table up front, and elaborate windows all create a Great Hall feel. The only thing that's missing? Floating candles, an enchanted ceiling, and a row of magical professors. (Hey, it was built by muggles, give them a break.) Visitors will need a ticket to Christ Church to see the dining hall.

New College Cloisters, Courtyard, and Tree

In "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," the cloisters and courtyard within New College are seen as Harry makes his way through a crowd of peers ridiculing him by wearing "Potter Stinks" pins. In the courtyard at New College, Harry tells Cedric Diggory that the first task they'll face in the Triwizard Tournament is defeating dragons. The tree where Malfoy sits while taunting Harry , which prompts Professor Moody to turn Malfoy into a ferret, is also in the courtyard. Visitors can take self-guided tours of New College by paying an entrance fee.

Bodleian Library, Divinity School

The Divinity School was used for many scenes in the first four Harry Potter films. In the first film, it served as Hogwarts' infirmary , where Harry recovers after his first confrontation with Voldemort. The school was also a location in "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban," when Harry and Hermione use the time turner to save Buckbeak the hippogriff and Sirius Black. And it was used in the "Goblet of Fire" film when Professor McGonagall teaches Ron how to dance for the ball. Book a tour to see the Divinity School.

Bodleian Library, Duke Humfrey's Library

With endless shelves of dated books and manuscripts, Duke Humfrey's Library was the perfect filming location for a scene in "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone." When Harry goes looking for answers in the restricted section of Hogwarts' library , he uses his invisibility cloak to wander through the stacks unseen, only to be terrified when Hogwarts' caretaker Argus Filch hears him rummaging about. Visitors can tour the library with a ticket .

Daniel Radcliffe Is 'Very Happy' About Upcoming Harry Potter TV Series but Remains Coy About Returning to Hogwarts

"I'm gonna be a politician about this and not deal in hypotheticals," the English actor said when asked how he'd respond if Max asked him to star in the series

Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty

Daniel Radcliffe is keeping his spell book shut for now.

The actor, 37, revealed in an interview with E! at the Drama League Awards on May 17 that he doesn't plan on making an appearance in the upcoming Harry Potter series .

"Like the rest of the world, [I’m] very excited to watch as an audience member," Radcliffe told the outlet.

When asked if he would star in the series, he answered, "No, I don’t think so."

Radcliffe suggested that the show creators "very wisely want a clean break" to differentiate the series from the popular film franchise , which starred the English actor as the titular character and premiered from 2001 to 2011.

"I don't know if it would work to have us do anything in it," he added.

Peter Mountain/ Warner Bros.

The actor refused to share how he'd respond if Max approached him to star in the series, saying: "I'm gonna be a politician about this and not deal in hypotheticals."

In 2023, Radcliffe said that he's " definitely not " looking to be involved in the new Max adaptation, which is said to be a "faithful adaptation" of J.K. Rowling's bestselling novels with each season covering a single book and Rowling signing on as an executive producer.

The PEOPLE Puzzler crossword is here! How quickly can you solve it? Play now !

"My understanding is that they're trying to very much start fresh and I'm sure whoever is making them will want to make their own mark on it and probably not want to have to figure out how to get old Harry to cameo in this somewhere," he said at the time.

"But I do wish them, obviously, all the luck in the world and I'm very excited to have that torch passed," he added. "But I don't think it needs me to physically pass it."

Charles Sykes/Bravo

That same month, Rowling – who has become a controversial figure for her transphobia – spoke out against Radcliffe and his Harry Potter costar Emma Watson for their differing points of view. She wrote on social media that they can "save their apologies.”

Radcliffe responded a few weeks later , saying of Rowling, "It makes me really sad, ultimately, because I do look at the person that I met, the times that we met, and the books that she wrote and the world that she created, and all of that is to me so deeply empathic.”

He expressed that the fantasy series "would not have happened without her" and noted how important the franchise has been in his life. However, he ultimately stated, "But that doesn’t mean that you owe the things you truly believe to someone else for your entire life."

Radcliffe stayed firm in his support for the community and said, "I will continue to support the rights of all LGBTQ people, and have no further comment than that."

Time refers to the indefinite continued progress of existence and events that allows to sequence events from the past through the present into the future, to compare their durations and the intervals between them, and to quantify the speed at which objects move and things change. Regarded as a mysterious and powerful thing by even the most learned wizards, temporal investigations , exploration and exploitation was still possible by magical means. [1]

HourReversalCharm

An Hour-Reversal Charm

Time was governed by natural laws which magic could explore and, to a certain and limited degree, manipulate, and, as such, there was a room devoted to its study in the Department of Mysteries , the Time Room . [1] However, time-related magic was unstable, and as serious breaches in the laws of time were widely accepted to potentially result in catastrophe if meddled with, the investigations conducted in the Department of Mysteries was largely shrouded in secrecy.

Consequently, the use of Time-Turners , miniature hourglasses enchanted with an Hour-Reversal Charm (as imbuing the spell into an object allowed for a higher degree of stability than casting it directly), which could only take the user back in time and not into the future, were hedged around with hundreds of laws. [1] Most of wizarding society would have been surprised to learn that Time-Turners were only ever used for mundane matters, like being able to be in two places at once to compensate for a hectic schedule. Additionally, according to Professor Croaker's law , a time traveller could only go back five hours, as any further meant that the person in question would run the risk of doing great damage to both themselves and to time itself.

Professor Dinah Hecat was once wounded by time itself during her time as an Unspeakable , which resulted in her rapidly physically ageing into an old woman. When asked if she had made her peace with the time she lost, she confessed that she didn't actually know how much time she had lost. In fact, it was entirely possible that whatever time she lost might have been in exchange for time gained. She considered dwelling on such matters to be a waste of the days ahead. [2]

History [ ]

Eloise mintumble (1899) [ ].

In 1899 , the Department of Mysteries conducted its last experience concerning time-travelling back in time for more than a few hours. Eloise Mintumble was sent to the year 1402 , wherein she became stuck for a period of five days. When she was finally retrieved to the present, her body had aged five centuries, and, irreparably damaged, she died in St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries . [1]

Her excursion to the past provoked a great disturbance to the life paths of all those she met, changing the present so dramatically that no fewer than twenty-five of their descendants vanished in the present, having been " un-born ". Moreover, there were a few more alarming signs that time itself had been disturbed: Tuesday following her reappearance lasted two and a half full days, whereas Thursday shot by in the space of four hours. [1]

The Ministry of Magic had a great deal of trouble covering up the mishap and, since then, the most stringent laws and penalties were placed around those who studied time travel. [1]

Hermione Granger (1993-1994) [ ]

Hermione Granger and Harry Potter used a Time-Turner in 1994

Hermione Granger received a Time-Turner from Professor McGonagall in 1993 , so that she could attend more classes in her third year than time would allow. Since McGonagall made her swear to not tell anyone about it, she did not mention it to Harry or Ron until the end of the school year, when she and Harry used it to travel back in time and save Sirius Black and Buckbeak from certain death. Special permission from the Ministry of Magic had to be sought to allow Hermione to use one, but her academic record ensured that permission was given. [3]

Hermione found her third year stressful with the extra class load, and therefore decided to drop Divination , which she despised, and Muggle Studies , which she did not find very useful, given that she was a Muggle-born . This allowed her to have a normal schedule once again, and she returned her Time-Turner. Ron was disappointed that Hermione did not tell her friends about it, despite her promise to McGonagall. [4]

Battle of the Department of Mysteries [ ]

The Department of Mysteries by 1996 contained a bell jar which had a bird inside which continuously changed its state in life; from egg , to chick, to adult and back again. [5]

During the Battle of the Department of Mysteries in June 1996 , all the Time-Turners in the Time Room accidentally got destroyed, such loosing their function to travel back in time. [6]

During the battle, Death Eaters Antonin Dolohov and Jugson followed Harry Potter , Hermione Granger , and Neville Longbottom into this room, hitting all three with the Impediment Jinx . An unidentified Death Eater who had reached to them, got hit by a Stunning Spell cast by Hermione and fell with his head into the bell jar, which was subjected to a strange form of time travel, shrinking into babyhood and back to normal again continuosuly. [6]

Behind the scenes [ ]

  • Knowing that time-related magic is unstable, there might be different ways to experience time through magic. This would explain catastrophic events as with Eloise Mintumble , and also paradoxes as the result of poorly performed time-related spells.
  • In Harry Potter and the Cursed Child , a restriction on standard-issue Time-Turners from the Department of Mysteries was introduced that was never alluded to in either the original books or in Rowling's writings, wherein Time-Turners could only go back five hours, as opposed to its prior appearances in previously established canon, wherein there were nothing to suggest that the Time-Turner used by Hermione Granger in the fifth book could not travel further back than five hours, only that it is inadvisable and quite possibly illegal use it that way. In the play, however, Ministry Time-Turners were contrasted by their "true" counterpart, where Time-Turners allowed the user to travel far beyond the five-hours safety boundary, the ownership of which were considered illegal to possess, due to the tremendous potential harm they can inflict onto the flow of reality. Unlike a Ministry-issued Time-Turner, the finalised version of this model was also able to go forward in time, if only to return the user safely to their present at their behest.

  • Ferula is a great bandaging charm offering real physical healing and can relieve pain from wounds significantly.
  • Episkey is useful for minor injuries like broken noses, commonly used by many wizards, including Luna Lovegood.

In Harry Potter , spells are an essential piece of magic used by wizards all over the wizarding world. Spells can vary from deadly attacks, such as Avada Kedavra , to defense spells, such as Protego Maxima. Even with the variety of spell types existing, healing spells are often considered some of the most valuable and essential for a wizard to learn, with the wizarding world being known for its dangers that can inflict damage on wizards.

Harry Potter: Harrys Best Friends, Ranked

Throughout the films and books of Harry Potter , numerous healing spells are used to aid wizards in the healing of others, with many being used by Harry and his friends during their years at Hogwarts.

Counter-Curse For Hiccoughs

Removes the effects of hiccoughs from a wizard.

Although the spell's name is unknown, the counter-curse for hiccoughs is a counter-charm used to remove the effects of hiccoughs on a person. In the book Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix , Harry, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger discuss the counter-curse for hiccoughs when examining their O.W.L. results.

With Hiccoughing Solution being a potion that can make targeted people fall victim to hiccoughs, the counter-curse is a spell that can provide a way to neutralize its effects. Although the spell has never been shown or said to have been used in the movies, its existence establishes the spell as a simple but effective counter-charm that prevents hiccoughs from occurring .

The Bandaging Charm

Ferula is considered a beneficial spell for healing, even for everyday occurrences . Ferula is a spell that places bandages around a person's wounded area, applying pressure, which is often found to relieve pain. The spell is most widely known through Remus Lupin, who used the spell on Ron to ease the pain of his broken leg at the Shrieking Shack in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban .

The only other occurrence of the spell being used is when Madam Poppy Pomfrey teaches Ferula to Jacob's sibling at Hogwarts, years before Harry and his friends arrive.

Heals Minor Injuries Such As Broken Noses

For treating injuries perceived as more tolerable, such as broken noses or cuts , Episkey is often used when dealing with such injuries. Episkey has been documented to have been used frequently, although its most famous use is by the hand of Luna Lovegood in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince . When Harry goes to spy on Draco Malfoy on the Hogwarts train, he receives a broken nose courtesy of his archnemesis.

Harry Potter: 6 Illegal Actions In The Wizarding World

After being left concussed, Harry runs into Luna as he arrives late at Hogwarts. Luna notices Harry's broken nose before immediately fixing it using the Episkey spell, curing Harry despite the pain the spell causes.

Brackium Emendo

The healing of broken bones.

Brackium Emendo is a spell used to fix a broken bone in a person's body. In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets , after Harry breaks his arm during a quidditch match, the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, Gilderoy Lockhart, quickly tries to aid Harry with the Brackium Emendo spell, performed using his wand .

Although seemingly confident in performing the spell, Lockhart fails, causing Harry's arm to lose all its bones, leaving the arm lifeless. If executed properly, Harry's broken bones in his arm would have been fixed, reducing the amount of time he would have to recover.

Healing Spell That Neutralizes Choking

Anapneo is a healing spell or charm that is often used when a person is choking. When used, the spell clears any objects stuck in a person's throat, stopping any choking from occurring. The most famous use of Anapneo is performed by Horace Slughorn, who uses the spell on Ravenclaw student Marcus Belby.

When Marcus begins to choke on food after eating too fast, Slughorn uses his wand to perform the spell to remove the food. Despite its lack of grandeur as a spell, Anapneo is highly effective and essential for wizards to learn.

The Revival Spell

Rennervate is a spell that wizards have frequently used in the wizarding world to revive targets who are found to be unconscious. Known casters of the spell include prestigious wizards such as Albus Dumbledore, Minerva McGonagall, and Amos Diggory. Rennervate is often used to remove the effects of the Stunning Spell, which stuns a target, rendering them unconscious.

Harry Potter: 6 Characters That Just Disappeared

Rennervate's most famous use comes from Harry in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince , as Harry tries to revive his headmaster, Dumbledore , when searching for one of Voldemort's Horcruxes. When Dumbledore attempts to consume the Drink of Despair, Harry uses the spell to revive his mentor as he struggles to deal with the effects of the drink.

Vulnera Sanentur

The half-blood prince's own healing spell.

Vulnera Sanentur is a counter-curse to Sectumsempra, an offensive curse that inflicts severe damage onto a target, often leading to serious hemorrhaging. Vulnera Sanentur is the healing spell that counteracts the effects of Sectumsempra, healing any hemorrhaging or wounded areas that have been affected. The spell itself was conjured by Severus Snape, who came up with Sectumsempra and its counter-curse while still a student at Hogwarts. Snape's methods are found to be documented in the study book Harry finds belonging to the Half-Blood Prince.

When Harry uses Sectumsempra to attack Malfoy in one of the Hogwarts bathrooms, Snape arrives in time to use Vulnera Sanentur to heal Malfoy and reverse the effects of Harry's attack.
