Star Clippers offer a unique combination of traditional sailing, easy-going informality and pampered relaxation. Each of the three graceful tall ships fly along the waves like the legendary clippers once did, leaving a lasting impression on anyone who sails on them.

Life aboard a Star Clipper is blissfully relaxed and intimate, much like travelling on a private yacht. The magnificent five-masted Royal Clipper is the largest, fully-rigged sailing ship afloat today and has a full complement of 42 sails. Star Flyer is smaller and carries just 170 guests. Both ships explore the shores of the Mediterranean in the summer, before heading to the sun-drenched Caribbean in the winter, with Star Flyer also offering itineraries to Cuba in the winter months. Star Clipper is the sister ship to Star Flyer and offers itineraries around Indonesia, including the beautiful island of Bali, in the summer, and explores Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia and Singapore in the winter.

On Star Clippers there are no rigid schedules and you are free to do as you wish during your sailing adventure. You can dine when and with whom you wish, including the ship's officers and there is no need for formal gowns or black tie. Our inspired chefs make dining aboard a delightful culinary adventure with an international menu served by friendly and gracious staff in a tasteful restaurant. Local performers are often invited on board to give guests an authentic taste of their music and arts.

After your continental or full breakfast, the day proceeds at your own pace. Perhaps join the Captain on the always-open bridge, cool off with a dip in one of the pools, unwind with a cool drink, or join in a favourite song at the piano bar. Dicover history and cultures on exciting shore excursions in exotic ports. If it's a beach day, take the opportunity to swim, snorkel, windsurf, or explore in a motorboat. Discover beautiful remote reefs, underwater wrecks, and blue lagoons. Yet you can be confident that your environmentally friendly sailing ship will leave the world's pristine places clean and unpolluted.

  • Passengers: 170

Star Flyer and Star Clipper are as fleet as the wind and as graceful as swans. These are true clipper ships, reflecting their proud heritage in every inch of polished brass and gleaming bright work.

These are modern cruise ships in every way, created for luxury-loving passengers who also love the traditions and romance of the legendary era of sailing ships. Star Flyer and Star Clipper are 360 feet long and carry just 170 guests in pampered comfort. Life aboard is blissfully relaxed, much like travelling on a private yacht.

The ships offer pleasingly spacious accommodation and expansive teak decks with ample space for relaxing and play. In fact you'll find that this ship offers more outdoor space per passenger than most conventional cruise ships.

The decor is reminiscent of the grand age of sail. Antique prints and paintings of famous sailing ships please your eye, while teak and gleaming mahogany rails are richly remindful of their proud nautical heritage.

The friendliness and enthusiasm of the Star Clippers' hospitable officers and crew adds to an unforgettable tall ship sailing cruise experience.

This voyage was the second time we have been with Star Clippers.

The first was Barbados to Panama which we really enjoyed so on this occasion we asked four other friends if they would like to join us.

All six of us thoroughly enjoyed the trip and thought the ship was fabulous.

In my view the shore based trips were not as interesting as the Panama trip but the crew did their best.

We were in Asia during the Coronavirus situation but because of all the checks made ( temperatures taken many times, completing a form confirming countries previously listed, and giving email details ), at no time did we feel at risk.

If you are thinking of joining a Star Clipper voyage do go. You will meet others who would not dream of going on a huge liner and love the intimate feeling of being on a small ship. Some on board were there for the tenth time!

We are already looking forward to the next opportunity.

Some aspects that make Star Clipper really special are :-

  • The quality of the cabins.
  • Excellent breakfasts, lunch and dinner all beautifully served by attentive staff.
  • All drinks are reasonably priced including very palatable house wines.
  • By having a relatively small number of guests it often felt as if we were on our own private yacht.
  • Those with a real interest in boats are encouraged to assist with helming, navigation and sails.
  • Interesting visits ashore with local guides. ( Cost extra.)
  • The captain and deck officers work hard to be approachable and answer questions.
  • A briefing by the captain and introduction to the crew.

We started this wonderful holiday with a 2 night stay at the Seminyak Beach and Spa Hotel. We were upgraded on arrival to a suite which overlooked the lovely gardens. We wanted for nothing. The staff were so attentive from the moment we arrived. The grounds and pool area were very well kept. The food was amazing from the buffet breakfast , pool snacks and evening restaurant.

While we were there we went to a Balinese evening at the hotel , which was great fun.

We did venture out to shops and bars near by, all in easy walking distance but found them to be a bit backpacker orientated, in contrast to the 5* hotel.

Benoa Port was the start of our Star Clipper 7 night cruise.

This was our first cruise and we loved every minute of it. From the unfurling of the sails , to the magical uninhabited islands and then ending the day with a special cocktail. The cabins were immaculate and quite spacious ( cat 2 ). Food was excellent and catered for every taste . Drink prices very reasonable. There were 152 guests onboard but the only time you saw everybody was at evening meal.

Entertainment and excursions very well organised. We had a great time and already thinking about our next cruise on a Clipper.

Our last 2 nights we spent in Ubud , at the Como Uma Hotel. Brilliant hotel in the tropical forest. Location , service and food all excellent. Used the free shuttle bus to go into Ubud which was very convenient. Also took advantage of their free yoga sessions which were amazing. This was a perfect hotel to finish off our amazing trip, celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary.

We had sailed on the Royal Clipper in the Caribbean in 2014 for my husbands 65th birthday and it was fantastic each sailing so emotional with the sails going up and the wonderful music. We therefore wanted to sail on her again for my 60th this year and the Monaco Grand Prix final just happened to fall on my birthday so it had to be booked we were a little afraid that the Royal Clipper would not be as magical as we had remembered it to be but it was it was just perfect. We booked the whole package being flights, transfers, hotel and the Royal Clipper Cruise with Blue Water Holidays and everything went as planned with no hic ups just perfect would certainly book with Blue Water Holidays again, thank you.

Tall Ship Bark EUROPA

The ship EUROPA was built in 1911 to serve as lightship on the river Elbe in Germany and brought to the Netherlands in 1986 to be completely rebuilt as a barque (three mast rigged ship). Since 1994 EUROPA was fully restored and since then roams the seas of the world in the best seafaring tradition. Bark EUROPA is a special purpose sail training ship and sails with a voyage crew and permanent crew. The sailing trips are for everyone who, regardless of sailing experience, wants to experience the adventure of sailing over the seas and oceans on a tall ship. The mix of different ages and nationalities among the crew and guests creates an international atmosphere on board.

Sail training voyages

Bark EUROPA is a sail training vessel and we call our guests 'voyage crew'. This means that Europa's permanent crew will train you to be a sailor. No experience is needed, our crew will learn you everything along the way. Unlike going on a cruise, on Bark Europa you will be going on a hands-on, active sailing adventure. You will be 'on watch' for four hours after which you have eight hours of free time.

The permanent crew will give you sail training and you will assist in all sail handling. This involves setting- and taking away the sails by hauling- and easing lines, climbing the rigging to furl or unfurl the sails. You will see that after your weeks on board EUROPA you will disembark as full-fledged tall ship sailor.

tall ships cruises europe

Respect for the oceans plays an important role in the philosophy of EUROPA and its crew. In addition to sailing training, we therefore try to increase the awareness of the trainees during our travels and to draw more attention to the ocean and the dangers it faces every day. We hope to inspire our trainees with lectures on board and inviting researchers to sail with us on our travels. The ship often travels in areas hardly visited by other ships and can therefore contribute to the collection of important data related to weather forecasting and climate change. EUROPA is often involved in various research projects and we are always looking for new ways to contribute to a sustainable future.

Antarctica expeditions

Bark EUROPA is best known for her Antarctica expeditions which she undertakes every year between November and March. From Argentina's southernmost point, the ship crosses the infamous Drake Passage on her way to Antarctica. Dolphins, albatrosses, petrels, hunters, terns and gulls will accompany us along the way. After a few days we reach the South Shetland Islands, just north of the Antarctic Peninsula. Our journey of discovery can begin. In Antarctica we anchor in sheltered bays almost every day and go ashore to view the glaciers, lichens, seals and penguin colonies. In these waters we will also meet different whale species, the most loyal visitors of the Southern Ocean. Sailing to Antarctica is a unique adventure that you won’t ever forget. Being able to visit the wildness and pure wonder of Antarctica and to see the beautiful creatures in their natural habitat will be a memory for life and hopefully an inspiration in protecting our planet.

tall ships cruises europe

Oceancrossings

In between the Antarctic seasons, Bark EUROPA prefers to do what she does best, wandering the oceans, following the traditional sailing routes. These crossings will give you a taste of what tall ship sailing is like at its most spectacular. Some voyages will be in rough waters, others in calmer waters. Imagine filling your days with playing around with stun sails, going to sail training lectures outside on the sunny main deck or helping out with maintenance projects. Colorful sunsets and new-found friends will give us some memorable evenings and after sunset the watches continue throughout the night, when you and your watch mates will continue to keep course under a sky full of stars.

Tall Ship Races

Every summer famous tall ships and international crews gather in Europe to test their sailing skills during the Tall Ship Races, the biggest international ocean races for sailtraining vessels in the world. Both at sea and in port, the tall ships races are a real sailor’s treat. During the race the ship and crew will be challenged to perform to the very best of their abilities in order to finish first. Sail racing is all about teamwork, excitement and strategic thinking for that one shared goal. Whenever our sailing schedule allows us, we like to test our strength against the other tall ships, show the beauty of tall ship sailing and invite young and old to participate in this highlight of the Northern Summer.

Europe is beautiful in every season, but the peak of comfortable weather (especially in the north) is between May and September.

You should always be prepared for rain and colder weather when you travel to Europe, especially in the North. Dress in light layers for your vacation.

Europeans speak more English the farther north you go. Your phone's translation app (or, at minimum, learning how to say "Hello" and "Thank You" in local languages) will aid you along the Mediterranean.

The décor of Royal Clipper is reminiscent of the grand age of sail. Antique prints and paintings of famous sailing ships please the eye, while teak and gleaming mahogany rails are richly reminiscent of Star Clippers’ proud nautical heritage.

All Star Clippers ships feature open-seating dining in an elegantly appointed dining room, our convivial indoor-outdoor Tropical Bar and Piano Bar, and an Edwardian style library where a Belle Époque fireplace glows with a warmth that reflects the friendliness and enthusiasm of Star Clippers’ hospitable officers and crew.

For all the characteristics that she possesses from the grand age of sail, Royal Clipper is as new as tomorrow, and boasts state-of-the-art navigation systems to prove it. She also combines beauty with comfort by offering every onboard luxury you could wish for. For passionate travellers and sail cruising connoisseurs, the 439 foot Royal Clipper offers a sea-going experience like no other; finding an undeniable balance between the grandeur, adventure and tradition of classic sailing and the superb facilities, cabins and conveniences associated with the finest modern yacht.

Disney Announces Major Cruise Line Expansion with 4 New Ships

Disney Cruise Line will add the new ships to its fleet by 2031.

Disney Cruise Line plans to add four new ships in the coming years, bringing its total fleet size to 13.

The new ships, which Disney announced as part of its D23 event this weekend, will arrive between 2027 and 2031. Disney said the names of the new ships, their design, and where they would sail were still in development.

“At Disney Experiences, Imagineers dream, create, design and build these stories into real places… everything we’re going to share with you is in active development,” Josh D’Amaro, the chairman of Disney Experiences, said in a statement. “Plans are drawn. Dirt is moving.”

In addition to the newly announced ships, Disney currently operates five ships and is planning on adding four more in the near future, including the Disney Destiny , which the company plans to launch in 2025. That ship will feature a heroes and villains theme along with recently-announced new restaurants like a “The Lion King”-themed spot complete with windows that transition from sunrise to sunset as you eat, tiered risers made to look like African drums, live musicians and storytellers, and favorite songs like the “Circle of Life” and “Hakuna Matata.”

The company is also preparing for the launch of the Disney Treasure , which is set to hit the high seas late this year. Over the weekend, D’Amaro detailed a new onboard stage production all about “Moana” on the ship, which will feature a larger-than-life 15-foot-tall puppet version of the fiery Te Kā.

“I’ve had a chance to see this in person, and it is stunning,” D’Amaro said, adding the puppet was “the largest we’ve ever produced for a Disney Cruise Line show.”

Currently, Disney sails to the Caribbean, Northern Europe, the Mediterranean, Alaska, Bermuda, Canada, Mexico, Hawaii, Australia, and beyond.

In addition to large ocean cruises , Disney operates a series of expedition and river cruises through its Adventures by Disney brand.

AIDAnova Debuts First Autonomous Cleaning Robot

  • August 12, 2024

AIDA cleaning robot

The AIDAnova recently became the first ship in the AIDA Cruises fleet to be equipped with a fully autonomous cleaning robot.

Developed by Kärcher Deutschland, the robot was designed to autonomously clean the outer decks of the vessel, which is currently sailing in Northern Europe.

“This prevents the accumulation of salt deposits and guarantees a safe and clean deck for all guests,” said Vincent Vogt, Kärcher’s Senior Expert Adviser Robotics.

The project was implemented together with the AIDA Cruises team and included onboard training for the crew, he added in a social media update.

The robot can be used on a daily basis, Vogt said, and is part of the company’s “Wiping of the Future” initiative.

According to Kärcher’s website, the autonomous robot was created to take over the floor cleaning of medium to large areas, relieving the workload of cleaning staff, who then can work on other tasks.

In addition to the robot for outside decks, AIDA Cruises is also using an autonomous vacuum cleaning robot for interior areas.

The AIDAnova is currently offering a series of seven-night cruises to the Norwegian Fjords departing from Kiel, Germany.

The itineraries feature visits to various destinations in Norway and Denmark, including Alesund, Maloy, Oslo, Aarhus and Copenhagen.

Starting in November, the ship is set to offer AIDA’s “Metropolises” itinerary, which sails from Hamburg and features visits to France, Belgium, England and the Netherlands.

In the past, AIDA Cruises collaborated with ALDEBARAN to embark “Pepper” robots on its fleet. The humanoid robots underwent trials on the AIDAstella before embarking on other ships starting in 2016 .

Able to read human emotions, the “Peppers” joined several ships of the fleet to help guests with recommendations and tips on restaurants, events and excursions.

The robots were able to speak English and German and also guided passengers during embarkation and disembarkation processes.
