What is a sky safari?

When you hear the phrase “sky safari,” your mind may wander to scenes of Meryl Streep and Robert Redford soaring above the Masai Mara in a single prop plane in Out Of Africa . That image is partly true—you’ll still witness the majesty of destinations such as Kenya and Tanzania, but you’ll experience a luxury and ease of travel the movie’s protagonists definitely did not.

If you don’t have extra days to burn in transit, then a sky safari will give you the most value for your time. Instead of traveling overland from one safari camp to the next, you’ll be transported efficiently on private planes.

Why reserve a sky safari over a traditional overland safari?

When you think of the travel time from your home airport to a major African city, then the travel time out to the African bush, it adds up. There’s still value in exploring via a traditional overland safari; however, a sky safari gets you to the action that much faster. Is there a minimum age for your safaris.

We allow for all ages on our private safaris. Children under the age of 3 will not be charged the full rate and are welcome to join at the parent’s discretion. We offer full-day tours only, so expect between 10-12 hours in a vehicle. Families must provide their own car-seats and boosters for their children. Our open safaris welcome children over the age of 5 , as they are mixed group safaris with diverse guests. Parents are encouraged to consider the wellbeing of the children and are welcome to ask us for advice on what to bring for comfort. Our guides are flexible and considerate and very happy to lead family tours!

Will we have time out of the car?

Yes! We like to get out of the car whenever possible. As long as it is safe to do so considering traffic and proximity to wildlife, we get out at pullouts to take pictures and observe animals, and there are a variety of boardwalks and trails.

How close to the animals do we get?

Yellowstone Safari Company abides by the laws of the national park which states that we must keep a distance of 25 yards from all small animals and large herbivores, and 100 yards from carnivores such as bears and wolves. Individual situations may require a greater distance, but your guide will always aim to get you as close as is legally and safely possible to wildlife viewings!

Situated in along the Nairobi River in beautiful Kenya, the capital of Nairobi is East Africa’s most cosmopolitan city. It serves as an excellent starting point for African safari trips around Kenya. Nairobi is Africa’s 4th largest city and is a vibrant and exciting place, and although it has developed a reputation which keeps tourist visits brief, there are some fascinating attractions: its cafe culture, unbridled nightlife, the National Museum, the Karen Blixen Museum and most notably just 20 minutes from the city centre wild lions and buffalo roam in the world’s only urban game reserve. Make sure you pay a visit to the elephant orphanage operated by the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.

Amboseli National Park

Located in the southern reaches of Kenya, the Amboseli National Park is renowned for its excellent variety of wildlife such as Masaai giraffe, elephant, lion and cheetah and not surprisingly it is one of Kenya’s most popular parks. The landscape of Amboseli is dominated by the majestic snow cap of Mount Kilimanjaro, as well as open plains, acacia woodland, swamps and the massif of Ol Doinyo Orok. The birding is excellent, especially closer to the lakes and swamps. The park is famous for being the best place in Africa to get close to large herds of elephants among other wildlife species. Other attractions of the park include opportunities to meet the Maasai people and soak up spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain in the world.

Meru National Park

Situated east of Meru, in beautiful Kenya, Meru National Park is one of the most popular parks in Kenya. Covering over 800 square kilometres, this park is wild and beautiful featuring diverse scenery with lush swamplands, thick jungle, vast savannah, and no less than thirteen rivers. Game to view includes some of the less regularly sighted animals like oryx, lesser kudu, duiker, dik-dik and over 300 species of birds have been recorded. It is here that Else the famous lion from the book and movie ‘Born Free’ lived out the latter part of her life and is buried. Visitors can soak up the spectacular views of Mount Kenya, spot game along the Tana River and view the cascading Adamson’s Falls.

Maasai Mara

The Maasai Mara together with Tanzania’s Serengeti form Africa’s most famous wildlife park, the Maasai Mara National Reserve. The image of acacia trees dotting endless grass plains epitomises Africa for many, then add a Maasai warrior and some cattle to the picture and the conversation need go no further. The undeniable highlight of the Maasai Mara National Reserve is undoubtedly the annual wildebeest migration traversing the vast plains of the Serengeti and the Maasai Mara. It is known as the largest mass movement of land mammals on the planet – with more than a million animals following the rains. Large prides of lions, elephants, giraffes, gazelles and eland can also be spotted in the reserve. Aside from horse riding safaris and traditional vehicle safaris, hot-air ballooning over the Mara plains has become almost essential.

• Your arrival at Nairobi JKIA Airport, you will be greeted by a Safari Ventures representative and transferred to you hotel for the evening with dinner included.
• Overnight at Hemingways Nairobi
• Breakfast at the hotel and you will be transferred to the Wilson Airport for your flight to Amboseli National Park mid-morning. 
• The SkySafari takes to the air  and you will arrive 45 minutes later. 
• Enjoy an exciting afternoon game drive after lunch followed by scenic sundowners in the Bush. 
• Enjoy dinner and overnight at Elewana Tortilis Camp Amboseli
• Enjoy an early morning walking safari followed by a special Bush breakfast.  Later, depart on a morning game drive. Return to the camp for lunch and some relaxation, then depart on an afternoon game drive.

• Head out on a morning game drive and lunch will be served in the Bush.

• Head out with your guide on a  morning walking safari and return to the lodge for lunch. 
• Transfer to Meru airstrip and board your flight to the Maasai Mara airstrip.

• On arrival, you will be greeted and transferred to your lodge in time for sundowners and later, dinner.
