Rates can vary widely by room type and season. "We Paid" is intended to give a general sense of price, but you might find considerably different rates for your trip.

When we book, we aim for the optimum season for the destination, but we avoid holidays and major public events, when prices are highest. We generally book a room at one category up from the most basic.

We take advantage of promotional rates, when possible. That means the rate you see above might have included other benefits, such as spa or meal credits.

Celebrity Solstice

Celebrity Solstice marked the debut of the Solstice-class ships on the high seas, and now, following a significant 2021 renovation of the 2,850-passenger liner, it has embarked upon cruising’s next chapter. In addition to redecorated staterooms, the Celebrity Solstice now boasts many Edge-class features that defined the latest generation of Celebrity Cruises as part of the brand’s $500 million project to revolutionize its entire fleet.

Now, like many of her younger sisters, Celebrity Solstice offers The Retreat suites loaded with perks, such as chef Daniel Boulud’s Luminae restaurant and dedicated lounge space. However, the many cruising firsts that made the Celebrity Solstice a splash when the ship first sailed in 2008 remain, such as the grass lawn and glass-blowing studio endure. Nature is a recurring theme throughout the ship — it merges land and sea with a ficus tree sitting in the atrium, a living plant wall growing in the solarium and the aforementioned grass oasis. She may be an older ship, but Celebrity Solstice is still a marvel.

  • The Sky Observation Lounge at the ship's bow provides an escape no matter the hour . During the day, take in the breathtaking sea views from the floor-to-ceiling windows from a comfortable perch. After sunset, the lounge transforms into a dance floor where you can enjoy live music and sip on out-of-this-world, zodiac-inspired cocktails.
  • Celebrity Solstice’s onboard children’s program makes traveling with the family a breeze with a variety of activities designed for different age groups. Teens will love sports competitions, silent disco parties and video game tournaments. Ten- to 12-year-olds will keep busy with STEM classes and scavenger hunts, and six- to nine-year-olds can learn sailing basics like navigation and weather patterns. Little ones can join a summer camp at sea with art projects and sing songs.
  • Book The Retreat for the best accommodations on the ship. The sizable suites range from 300 square feet with a 79 square foot veranda to the Penthouse’s whopping 1,291 square feet and 389 square foot veranda. Retreat guests also receive access to exclusive amenities such as Boulud’s Luminae restaurant, the private 24-hour Michael’s Club lounge and a dedicated concierge service to ensure smooth sailing at sea.
  • Even while cruising, land isn’t far from your feet. A half acre of grass known as The Lawn Club sits on the top deck, open for bocce ball or croquet play. Another must-try activity is the hot glass class, where you can make a vase or other souvenir.
  • Dining is always a highlight on Celebrity ships. On Solstice, the main restaurant Grand Épernay serves daily changing fine dining under an ornate chandelier. Luminae serves dishes from Five-Star chef Boulud. Tuscan Grille is a favorite for its delicious Italian fare. And don’t forget the bars: Martini Bar guarantees ice-cold drinks, since ice covers the bar’s surface. Every libation comes with a show — bartenders flip bottles, stack glasses and pour with panache.
  • Forgot to pack your book? Not to worry, the ship’s well-stocked two-floor library has you covered.
  • An impressive array of daily activities ensures no shortage of fun at sea. Play basketball, participate in a thrilling game of pool volleyball where officers compete against guests, try your hand at archery or dance the night away at a silent disco.
  • The sky-high Solstice Deck provides a stunning space for relaxation. Begin the day here with a morning yoga flow, spend a laidback afternoon in the canopied lounge beds and stay for the views of the twinkling stars come nightfall.
  • The adult-only, glass-walled, roofed solarium features a resistance pool, sparkling waterfalls, two whirlpools and the health-conscious Spa Cafe. Depending on the itinerary, the solarium will host family swim times.

Celebrity solstice review, review of celebrity solstice.

The 2008-built Celebrity Solstice cruise ship is the 1st of the Solstice-class Celebrity Cruises boats, together with Equinox , Silhouette , Eclipse , Reflection . Celebrity Cruises Solstice ship is scheduled for "Celebrity Revolution" drydock refurbishment on October 1, 2021.

The vessel (IMO number 9362530) is currently Malta- flagged (MMSI 249409000) and registered in Valletta .

History - construction and ownership

Celebrity Cruises was founded in 1988 as the Greece-based Chandris Line (cruise shipping operations between 1974-1996). In 1997, Royal Caribbean International (RCI) merged with "Celebrity Cruises Ltd" to become "Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd" (RCCL). The "X" on ship funnels is the Greek letter chi (standing for "Chandris"). Common features of Celebrity Cruises ships include aft located glass-walled dining rooms, signature alternate dining venues, bars and lounges, spacious Atrium lobby areas, a large number of balcony staterooms, large sundecks with swimming pools, The Retreat (adults-only sundeck with full-size swimming pool, Jacuzzi, cabanas, poolside full bar service). Rooftop Terrace (top-deck outdoor lounge-restaurant-cinema), large Spa (with Thermal Suites), premium retail shops selling top-brand merchandise.

Celebrity Cruises Solstice-class ship model (Eclipse., Equinox, Silhouette, Solstice, Reflection)

The 2900-passenger ship Celebrity Solstice was the first to be a part of Celebrity's Solstice class. Solstice has many of the personal amenities that cruisers have come to expect from the line, while able to transport almost 3000 passengers. Each of the vessels in the Solstice class has wireless Internet connectivity, bigger staterooms with HDTVs, large bathrooms, more storage space, and plush European bedding. The Solstice-class ships also offer an extraordinary range of customer-inspired services and amenities made possible due to the liners' bigger size.

Decks and Cabins

Celebrity Solstice staterooms (1425 total, in 30 grades) include 66x Suites, 1149 Balconies, 70x Oceanviews, 140x Inside cabins. Most staterooms are sized 195 ft2 / 18 m2. Around 85% of all passenger accommodations have a private step-out balcony. Most balconies are sized 55 ft2 / 5 m2. Wheelchair-accessible cabins are 30. The largest are the Penthouse Suites (1290 ft2 / 120 m2 with terrace sized 390 ft2 / 36 m2).

The boat has 15 decks , of which 14 are passenger-accessible and 8 with cabins.

Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

Besides the main dining room, passengers aboard Celebrity Solstice can dine in three specialty restaurants. One of the dining venues aboard is reserved exclusively for guests in Aqua Class staterooms. There is also a lido buffet with specialty stations, a crepe and panini bistro, a spa cuisine buffet and grill, a poolside grill, and a coffee bar and gelateria. Of the 10 restaurants available, 6 are open for breakfast, 5 for lunch and 7 for dinner. The airy Grand Epernay is ship's main dining room, which spans two decks at the aft end of the cruise ship. The room is light intones, bright and with ample use of the signature design element of Solstice, glass. Instead of a wine cellar, one end of the MDR is accented with a 2-story glass wine tower.

Itineraries

Celebrity Solstice itinerary program is based on 7-day roundtrips to Alaska from Seattle WA during summer. During the rest of the year, the ship sails on South Pacific Islands, Australia and NZ cruises from Auckland and Sydney . The Solstice also visits Hawaii on repositioning crossings between Alaska and Australia.

Due to the Coronavirus crisis, the Celebrity ship Solstice was paused for 2+ years (March 2020 thru May 2022). Operations were scheduled to restart on May 6, 2022, with 7-day Alaskan itineraries (from homeport Seattle). The following Asian deployment for winter 2022-23 (based on homeporting in Singapore, Hong Kong, Yokohama, and 12-day itineraries) was eventually canceled and replaced with 7-day Mexican Riviera voyages from homeport Los Angeles . The Mexican program was previously assigned to the fleetmate Millennium (repositioned to the Caribbean). A total of 17x Asian itineraries (departures between Sept 16, 2022, and April 21, 2023) were canceled.

Celebrity Solstice Wiki

Celebrity Cruises Solstice ship belongs to company's Solstice-class liners, with sisterships Eclipse , Equinox , Reflection , Silhouette . Solstice is fleet's first Solstice-class vessel (launched on August 10, 2008), with inaugural cruise/maiden voyage on November 23, 2008. The ship has staterooms in various categories, including the new AquaClass and ConciergeClass cabins.

Modern and classy, Solstice was the biggest passenger ship built in Germany. Deck layouts of all Solstice-class Celebrity liners show optimized interior architecture designs for easy passenger flow. The vessel is very easy to navigate, with all entertainment venues located forward and all food venues located aft. All "money" places (casino and shops) are midship. All specialty dining venues are on Deck 5. This ship also has solar panels to produce (though of limited amount) electricity, fuel-efficient hull design, and coatings, eco-friendly lighting.

Cruise itinerary October 20-29 (9-day "South Pacific Islands" roundtrip from Sydney NSW ) became Australia's first-ever vegan- themed voyage . It was available for booking on Celebrity Solstice and featured a special vegan dining menu. The voyage (themed "The Whole Connection") was organized by Paige Renshaw and as onboard pre-scheduled events featured daily food demonstrations, workshops, and professional presentations, as well as meditation classes, yoga and pilates, various group activities and documentary movie nights. The itinerary's call ports were in New Caledonia and Vanuatu (Noumea, Mystery Island, Isle of Pines, Lifou Island).

Celebrity Cruises answers a key adults-only question

M any people sail on Celebrity Cruises because the line generally has fewer kids onboard compared to its sister brand Royal Caribbean. Celebrity ships don't have the rock walls, waterslides, Flowriders, and mini golf courses that are available on nearly every Royal Caribbean ship.

Celebrity does welcome kids and teens with dedicated spaces, clubs, and activities, but it does not really cater to them. A teenager or even a younger kid should be able to have fun on a Celebrity sailing, but that fun won't include ice skating, laser tag, bumper cars, and some of the other activities offered on Royal Caribbean's newer ships.

Kids and teens can still take part in cruise ship staples like eating way too much pizza, drinking too much soda, and setting new records for soft-serve consumption. But on most Celebrity sailings you won't see as many people under the age of 18 as you do on many Royal Caribbean sailings.

Celebrity Cruises, however, does have kids onboard and it offers a pool complex with bar service, hot tubs, and lounge chairs that are off-limits to guests under the age of 18. The cruise line, however, does make some exceptions to the age limit and that has some Celebrity passengers fairly angry.

Celebrity offers family Solarium hours

Both Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises offer covered adults-only Solarium areas on their ships. Some of the Royal Caribbean Solariums have retractible roofs while others have permanent roofs and a few are open-air.

Celebrity Cruises President Laura Hodges Bethge was asked some pointed questions about the Solarium area on her cruise line's ships during a recent Ask Me Anything on the Cruise Critic message boards.

A user identified as Hrhdhdh posed the question during the AMA, "Why are there family hours in the Solarium?"

They also shared their reasoning for asking the question.

"I enjoy the adults-only Solarium. I use it in the late afternoon when supposedly I should be getting ready for dinner. I'd like to enjoy child-free time, too, and do not appreciate having to guess if 'family hours' will be announced during a cruise (when the website states otherwise), the poster asked.

Celebrity's Hodges Bethge tried to answer

"To accommodate guests under the age of 16 during colder weather, the Solarium does offer family hours on select sailings in Alaska, The Baltics, and Antarctica from 5-7 p.m. daily. Our goal always is for everyone to have a positive experience. While there are some instances where this could change, we will do our best to make sure you have ample notice to make sure you can plan around this for a better cruise experience," she wrote.

The problem is that her answer is not fully valid. It's common for the cruise line to offer Family Hours in the Solarium on warm-weather sailings out of Florida. Many of the people on the message board, including the one who asked the original question shared that with her.

"Thank you for the reply. I regret to inform you that 'Family Hours' are not limited to the sailings you identified. Another example of the lack of consistency at Celebrity. Full transparency would indicate that the hours you say are the actual ones should be noted on the website so people can have the information before booking and sailing," Hrhdhdh.

Other posters shared specific examples.

"This does not explain why there were Family Hours on a Panama Canal sailing, There was definitely no cold weather unless you consider low to mid-80s cold weather," DaKahuna wrote.

"There were family hours on our Caribbean cruise. We had toddlers in the hot tub outside of family hours as well. It was a challenge to be in the hot tub trying to carry on adult conversations," 3boyz2keep added.

Celebrity appears to offer Family Hours in the Solarium during cruises where there is bad weather, including rain, which limits the availability of the outdoor pool decks. It also appears that on some ships sailing from Florida (and maybe others) Family Hours are routine and offered every day, not just in bad weather situations.
