Kappa Kappa Gamma Holiday Homes Tour

Thank you from the 72nd annual kappa kappa gamma holiday homes tour.

The Kappa Homes Tour has been a holiday tradition for more than 70 years! Started in 1951, the Tour has raised more than $2 million for local charitable organizations and the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation. We’ve survived changing times, economic crises, and a global pandemic. Thank you for your continued support.

Stay connected with this website and our Facebook and Instagram for updates and information on the Tour and our fantastic Kansas City beneficiaries, Sheffield Place and Hope House .

We work diligently to manage costs and streamline expenses while delivering an exceptional Tour experience each year. It is an expensive and time intensive endeavor, requiring hundreds of hours of volunteer time by Kappa alumnae and friends. Donations raised ahead of the Tour offset operating costs, allowing more revenue to go directly to our beneficiaries.

If this is your first time on the Tour, pick a home as your starting place or the Holiday Boutique. Once you arrive, you will get a Tour Guide with a map and other helpful information about the homes and the beneficiaries. Enjoy your Tour!

Annual Kappa Holiday Homes Tour kicks off Wednesday, benefits Kansas City charities

kappa tour kansas city

MISSION HILLS, Kan . – From Leawood to Hyde Park, the owners of one-of-a-kind mansions with incredible seasonal decorations are opening their houses to the public for the annual Kappa Holiday Homes Tour.

The tour showcases holiday inspirations from area interior decorators and florists, but also raises thousands of dollars for area non-profits.

The designers and homeowners will be on site during tour hours to answer questions and show off the finer points of their concepts.

Proceeds from each ticket purchased go to charities throughout the Kansas City area. Over the 67 years of the tour, the Kansas City alumni chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority has raised more than $2 million.

Ever seen a snowman made of flowers? Designs like this from Craig Sole are on display today and tomorrow at the Kappa Holiday Homes Tour. Tickets are $30 at the door. Wed. from 1 to 8 Thur. from 10 to 7 pic.twitter.com/jD2Gvx7eEo — Charlie Keegan (@CharlieKeegan41) December 5, 2018

Thousands of dollars from this year’s tour will benefit Sheffield Place, Healing House, and the Kappa Foundation.

Sheffield Place is a shelter for single mothers and their children who are homeless. Located in an old YMCA building on 12th Street in the northeast section of Kansas City, Sheffield Place requires all its residents to attend daily group activities, therapy and either work or go to school. 90 percent of women who complete the program become self-sufficient.

“They need to address the underlying problems of trauma, the underlying problems of addiction and then they're able to move forward and avoid homelessness from that point on,” said Nate Vander Hamm, the president of the board of directors at Sheffield Place.

The organization says it has seen the number of women in need increase every year since 2012. It will use money from the Kappa event to keep its programs running and buy more houses in the neighborhood to use as transitional living for families as they reach self-sufficiency.

Healing House is also in the northeast neighborhood of Kansas City, Missouri. It is a support services agency for people recovering from substance abuse. The group currently provides shelter to 180 adults and 30 children in a variety of homes throughout the neighborhood.

The founder says the organization turns away more than 100 people every week because it doesn’t have enough space to house everyone who needs the help. Healing House will use money from the Kappa Homes Tour to purchase and renovate a home to expand the number of people it can help.

“Hope is a game-changer. Just a little bit of hope that something could change in your life and you could come out of this despair and agony changes everything,” said Bobbi-Jo Reed, the founder and director of Healing House.

The Kappa Foundation puts money toward college scholarships and literacy initiatives.

Indian Hills Country Club will host a Holiday Shop where you can buy some decorations and items you’ll see on display in the homes.

10 Kansas City concerts that are not to be missed this May

A muscular man with big, square sunglasses poses in front of a white background. The man, wearing a black polo shirt with three red roses on it, holds one forearm with his other hand.

Taylor Swift isn’t in town, but her connections will make a local impact at Travis Kelce’s music festival and Jack Antonoff’s show at Grinders. Kansas City legend Tech N9ne, revenge song expert Ashley McBryde, and blues slinger Gary Clark Jr. round out the concert calendar.

Worlds collide in a summit of disparate Kansas City institutions at the Midland Theater this month. The collaboration between Tech N9ne and the Kansas City Symphony is the event of the year for “Technicians,” as rabid fans of the local rap legend are known. Observers advocating progressive evolution in the Symphony also cheer the partnership.

A pair of high-profile concerts tangentially related to global pop icon Taylor Swift will attract even bigger audiences. Kelce Jam, a hip-hop and electronic dance music concert curated by Swift’s paramour, Travis Kelce, is headlined by Lil Wayne. And Bleachers, the rock band overseen by Swift’s trusted collaborator Jack Antonoff, returns to Kansas City.

Also in May, the country-rocker Ashley McBryde will crank up the volume on her drinking and cheating songs at the Uptown Theater. Admirers of Gary Clark Jr. might consider bringing earplugs to the sonic maximalist’s concert at the Midland Theater. And Humbird will showcase its aggressive variation of folk at miniBar.

Music lovers who prefer serenity aren’t left out. The instrumental music of Hermanos Gutiérrez will fill The Truman with tranquil sounds, Jacob Collier will imbue the Music Hall with cerebral sophistication, and Tenille Townes’ show at the Bottleneck promises to provide a few tender moments.

Tech N9ne with the Kansas City Symphony: May 4

  • When: 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 4
  • Where: The Midland Theatre , 1228 Main St., Kansas City, Missouri 64105
  • Tickets: Starting at $45

The people expressing surprise at Tech N9ne ’s collaboration with the Kansas City Symphony clearly aren’t committed fans of the rapper known as “The Kansas City King.”

Tech N9ne’s genre-bending sound borrows freely from classical music. “ I'm a Playa ,” a staple of Tech N9ne performances, is constructed on Falco’s 1985 homage to Mozart, “ Rock Me Amadeus .”

“ The Industry Is Punks ” is another Tech N9ne classic that owes as much to classical-leaning rock bands like Queen as to conventional rap. That’s why this May’s concert at The Midland Theater isn’t unexpected — it was inevitable.

Ashley McBryde: May 9

A woman in a black dress sits in an auditorium filled with empty red chairs. Her black hair has a streak of blonde in it, and tattoos peak out from her dress' shear sleaves.

  • When: 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 9
  • Where: Uptown Theater , 3700 Broadway Blvd., Kansas City, Missouri 64111
  • Tickets: Starting at $35

Revenge songs don’t get much sweeter than “ Girl Goin' Nowhere .” The composition, written and performed by country star Ashley McBryde , revels in the satisfaction of proving doubters wrong.

There’s more where that came from. The Grand Ole Opry inductee also wrote contemporary Nashville classics, including the defiant “ A Little Dive Bar in Dahlonega ” and the hilarious “ Brenda Put Your Bra On .”

Honky tonk traditionalist Will Jones is the opening act on McBryde’s “The Devil I Know” tour.

Hermanos Gutiérrez: May 9

Two men with mustaches stand under palm trees and a blue sky. One man wears a brimmed hat and jean jacket. The other wears several pieces of silver jewlery and a black T-shirt.

  • Where: The Truman , 601 E. Truman Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64106
  • Tickets: $32 in advance

The title of “ Sonido Cósmico ,” the forthcoming album by Hermanos Gutiérrez , translates to “cosmic sound.” The phrase only begins to capture the music made by the sibling guitar duo of Estevan and Alejandro Gutiérrez.

The brothers’ evocative instrumentals recall the dusty soundtracks Ennio Morricone composed for westerns, including “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.”

Produced by Easy Eye Sound record label owner and Black Keys mastermind Dan Auerbach, the brothers’ latest material is making Hermanos Gutiérrez a crossover sensation.

Humbird: May 10

A woman with braided blonde hair stands in front of a dense wood. Lens flare and blur effects from the camera surround the woman, who is wearing a long-sleeved black shirt.

  • When: 8 p.m. on Friday, May 10
  • Where: miniBar , 3810 Broadway Blvd., Kansas City, Missouri 64111
  • Tickets: $19

Like an inappropriate partycrasher, Humbird brought loud rock to the Folk Alliance International 2024 Conference held in Kansas City in February.

Backed by a powerhouse tandem of electric bass and rock-oriented drums, the Minnesota band led by Siri Undlin surprised folk purists at its official showcase.

Much of Humbird’s catalog consists of refined folk . A new direction in the vein of electric Neil Young, instead of the delicate folk of Joan Baez, will help Humbird fit in at the rock-oriented miniBar. Adelyn Strei opens the show.

Gary Clark Jr.: May 15

A man in a button down shirt holds a set of stylish sunglasses in front of his eyes.

  • When: 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15
  • Tickets: Starting at $39.50

Gary Clark Jr. rose to fame as a blues guitar slinger in the fabled Texas tradition of Freddie King, Johnny Winter and Stevie Ray Vaughan. As with those men, Clark dares to follow an unconventional muse.

Blues remains the foundation of Clark’s sound, but his startling new album, “JPEG RAW,” includes elements of African desert blues as well as American jazz, funk, soul, hip-hop and pop.

Clark’s embrace of a multiplicity of styles seems entirely natural. The Midland Theater will be filled with a corresponding variety of blues fans, rock-and-rollers and connoisseurs of experimental sounds.

Tenille Townes: May 16

Tenille Townes has received 17 awards from the Canadian Country Music Association.

  • When: 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 16
  • Where: The Bottleneck , 737 New Hampshire St., Lawrence, Kansas 66044
  • Tickets: $22 in advance

Why is Tenille Townes performing in nightclubs rather than in arenas? Fortunate fans at the Bottleneck who sing along with Townes on May 16 are bound to wonder why she isn’t headlining the T-Mobile Center.

The disparity is one of country music’s biggest mysteries. Towne’s pop-country anthems like “ Where You Are ” and “ As You Are ” are ideally suited for big halls.

True to her Canadian heritage, Townes was invited to the stage by pop-country icon Shania Twain when she was 9, and she released a duet with rock star Bryan Adams last year.

Kelce Jam: May 18

A smiling man with dreadlocked hair sit on a bench in front of a dark green background. He wears a big watch, bracelet, rings, and necklace over a white turtleneck and black pants.

  • When: 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 18
  • Where: Azura Amphitheater , 633 N. 130th St., Bonner Springs, Kansas 66012
  • Tickets: Starting at $50

Travis Kelce adds new meaning to the concept of jock jams. The celebrity tight end of the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs “personally recruited his favorite artists” for the second edition of Kelce Jam in Bonner Springs, according to the event’s website.

Lil Wayne is Kelce’s headliner. He may now be best known as a sports commentator , but hits like “ A Milli ” made the New Orleans man known as Weezy one of the world’s most popular rappers for much of the new millennium.

Music impresario Diplo and rapper 2 Chainz (who is even taller than the 6-foot-5 host) are among the additional stars celebrating with Kelce in Kansas.

Jeffrey Osborne: May 18

A man in a black fedora, suit jacket, and polka-dotted scarf holds a microphone off to his right side.

  • When: 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 18
  • Where: Ameristar Casino , 3200 N. Ameristar Drive, Kansas City, Missouri 64161
  • Tickets: Starting at $60

Thousands of fans of exuberant 1970s funk and frothy ‘80s pop are looking forward to Lionel Richie’s June 6 concert at T-Mobile Center.

Jeffrey Osborne ’s May 18 appearance at Ameristar Casino is an ideal warmup for the big event. While Richie rose to fame as a member of the Commodores, Osborne sang on timeless L.T.D. hits like “ Love Ballad ” during the same era.

Osborne became a successful solo artist in the 1980s with hits like “ Stay With Me Tonight ” and “ On the Wings of Love .” Richie may be more famous than Osborne, but the men are artistic equals.

Bleachers: May 23

A bespectacled man wearing a brown jacket on his head sits at a diner booth reading a newspaper and drinking a cup of coffee.

  • When: 7:25 p.m. on Thursday, May 23
  • Where: Grinders KC , 1826 Locust St., Kansas City, Missouri 64108
  • Tickets: Sold out, but tickets are available on the secondary market

Just as the celebrity of Travis Kelce took on new dimensions when he was romantically linked to Taylor Swift, the public profile of Jack Antonoff was elevated by his association with the pop superstar.

In addition to helping Swift make a successful transition from country music, Antonoff’s work with additional artists including Lorde, Lana Del Rey and Olivia Rodrigo shaped the sound of popular music.

Antonoff evokes the melodramatic side of Bruce Springsteen with Bleachers . Not coincidentally, both stars are New Jersey natives. Samia , yet another artist who has worked with Antonoff, opens the sold-out show.

Jacob Collier: May 31

A man in a plower print jacket and shirt runs his fingers through his spikey, dark hair. He stands in front of a wall of thin bamboo rods.

  • When: 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 31
  • Where: Kansas City Music Hall , 301 W. 13th St., Kansas City, Missouri 64105

Jacob Collier is as much a musicologist as he is a pop star. The 29-year-old Brit leveraged the popularity of his instructional videos and expert analysis to become a celebrity.

As an avatar of good taste and elite craftsmanship, Collier fashions himself as an heir to the legacy of Quincy Jones. Pop music’s establishment concurs.

Collier’s latest release includes features by Brandi Carlile, John Legend, John Mayer and Michael McDonald. The comparably-cultured Emily King opens Collier’s concert.

From left, Extemporaneous Music and Arts Society musicians Seth Andrew Davis, Krista Kopper and Evan Verploegh perform at Charlotte Street Foundation in August 2021. Like their music, the group takes multiple forms and includes various personnel.

KCMO Municipal Court closed Monday due to ‘compromised’ computer system

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The Kansas City Municipal Court will be closed on Monday and KCMO.gov remains unavailable after the city’s computer system was reportedly compromised over the weekend.

Although it is unclear exactly when the outage occurred, IAFF Local 42 President Dan Heizman sent an email to Kansas City Fire Department staff on Saturday, notifying them of the incident. His email stated that “The City’s computer system was compromised,” and he expected KCFD’s staffing technology and “other IT systems” to be impacted.

KCMO.gov , Kansas City’s official website, has remained unavailable throughout the weekend, giving users an error message reading “This site can’t be reached.”

The City of Kansas City's official website has been "compromised," according to an email sent...

On Sunday, the Kansas City Municipal Court sent a notice that it would be closed on Monday, May 6 as a direct result of the outage.

“Hearings and trials will be continued to later dates, except the court will work with Kansas City Police, gather information, arraign, and review bonds for people in custody. Right now, court email also is down. Court officials are monitoring the situation in real time and will adjust as needed. Pay Kansas City Municipal Court cases filed on or after November 6, 2023, online through Missouri CaseNet at https://www.courts.mo.gov/casenet . You may post bonds at the designated Kansas City Police Department patrol stations .”

KCPD says its systems have remained unaffected by the outage.

There has been no further confirmation of the compromise by city officials. KCTV5 reached out to the City of Kansas City and Mayor Lucas for comment but has yet to hear back.

This is a breaking news story, more information will be provided as it is made available.

Tom Brady Roasts the Kansas City Chiefs With Taylor Swift Digs: ‘Your Fans Are 14-Year-Old Girls’

Feature Tom Brady Roasts Kansas City Chiefs With Taylor Swift Digs 2

Tom Brady got in on the jokes during his own roast and no one was safe — including Taylor Swift .

“Kansas City, you say your stadium is the loudest. It helps when your fans are 14-year-old girls,” Brady, 46, quipped during the Netflix special, which aired live on Sunday, May 5.

Brady poked fun at Swift’s romance with Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce , adding, “In honor of Tay Tay, let’s take a look at the Chiefs Eras. Terrible for 50 years, good for five. ‘Shake it off’.”

Earlier this year, the Chiefs won their third Super Bowl in five years. Off the field, Swift, 34, and Kelce’s high-profile relationship helped the football team continue to make headlines since the couple took things public in September 2023.

After Swift started to show her support at Kansas City Chiefs’ games, the NFL decided to capitalize off the attention by using her music for promotional clips and often pointing the camera at her during broadcasts.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was all for the romance , telling CBS in November 2023, “They seem to be enjoying their relationship. That’s great in and of itself, but it has connected more fans of Taylor’s and more fans of the NFL in some ways. [Swift is] an unbelievable artist, obviously, Travis is an unbelievable player and I think it’s great for the league to have that kind of attention — so we welcome it.”

TOM BRADY SHREDS #CHIEFS FANS…. “Kansas City, you say your stadium is the loudest. It helps when your fans are 14 year old girls… in honor of TAY TAY… Let’s take a look at the Chiefs Eras; Terrible for 50 years, good for 5. SHAKE IT OFF.” 💀💀💀💀💀 pic.twitter.com/0BciUlvyXO — MLFootball (@_MLFootball) May 6, 2024

One month later, Swift waved off the negative reactions from some football fans.

“I don’t know how they know what suite I’m in. There’s a camera, like, a half-mile away, and you don’t know where it is, and you have no idea when the camera is putting you in the broadcast, so I don’t know if I’m being shown 17 times or once,” Swift told TIME in December 2023 about the attention. “I’m just there to support Travis. I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads and Chads.”

Swift maintained that she had no regrets about putting her personal life into the spotlight, adding, “When you say a relationship is public, that means I’m going to see him do what he loves, we’re showing up for each other, other people are there and we don’t care. The opposite of that is you have to go to an extreme amount of effort to make sure no one knows that you’re seeing someone. And we’re just proud of each other.”

Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift

Related: Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Relationship Timeline

The pair took that in stride by sharing several memorable onscreen moments as the Chiefs progressed to the Super Bowl, sharing several kisses and exchanged “I love yous” as cameras on the field after a playoff game in January.

Swift was also by Kelce’s side when the Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime one month later at the Super Bowl. In turn, Kelce jetted off overseas to cheer for Swift during multiple stops on her Eras Tour.

“I don’t know how I [pulled Taylor] because she wasn’t into sports. So I don’t know how the f—k I did it,” Kelce joked on his “New Heights” podcast last month. “I know exactly how I did it.”

For Pete’s Sake

At his roast, tom brady used taylor swift to throw shade at chiefs fans.

Nearly nine years to the day before Taylor Swift made her first appearance at a Chiefs game as a fan, a record was set at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

On Sept. 29, 2014, the Chiefs thumped the Patriots 41-14 on “Monday Night Football” and quarterback Tom Brady was pulled from the game. That night, Chiefs fans set a Guinness World Record for the loudest crowd roar at a sports stadium.

Being the loudest venue in sports is a point of pride for Kansas City fans, but Brady poked fun at Chiefs Kingdom on Sunday night.

During “The Roast of Tom Brady” on Netflix, the former Patriots and Buccaneers quarterback mentioned the Chiefs and Swift, who is dating tight end Travis Kelce. That romance become public knowledge when Swift attended the Chiefs’ 41-10 win over the Bears last September.

“Kansas City, you say your stadium is the loudest. That helps when all your fans are 14-year-old girls,” Brady said, seemingly noting that many of Taylor Swift’s supporters have become Chiefs fans.

Brady wasn’t finished with roasting the Chiefs, and he used Swift and her Eras Tour to do it.

“And in honor of Tay Tay,” Brady said, “let’s take a look at the Chiefs eras: terrible for 50 years. Good for five, shake it off.”

Milwaukee brewers at kansas city royals odds, picks and predictions, share this article.

The Kansas City Royals (20-15) welcome the Milwaukee Brewers (20-13) to Kauffman Stadium Monday. First pitch to commence the 3-game series is set for 7:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze  FanDuel Sportsbook’s  lines around the Brewers vs. Royals odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: First meeting; Brewers won 3-0 last season

The Royals lost to the Texas Rangers 3-2 Sunday at home, but did cover as a run-line underdog, closing at +126 on the moneyline. They have lost 2 in a row and 5 of their last 8 games. Kansas City is 22-13 against the spread (ATS) on the season and 13-7 straight up at home.

The Brewers lost 5-0 to the Chicago Cubs Sunday on the road, failing to cover as a run-line favorite. They lost the last 2 of that 3-game series and have lost 5 of their last 8 games. Milwaukee is 13-6 on the road, the 3rd-best win percentage in the majors, and 19-14 ATS.

Brewers at Royals projected starters

RHP  Bryse Wilson vs. LHP Cole Ragans

Wilson (2-1, 3.00 ERA) makes his 4th start. He has a 1.00 WHIP, 2.6 BB/9 and 7.9 K/9 in 24 IP.

  • Last start: Loss, 6 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 2 BB, 6 K in 1-0 home loss vs. Tampa Bay Rays April 29
  • 2024 road splits: 2-0, 4.50 ERA, 10 IP, 5 ER, 8 H (2 HR), 3 BB, 6 K in 5 appearances (1 start)
  • Has never faced Kansas City

Ragans (2-2, 3.44 ERA) makes his 8th start. He has a 1.36 WHIP, 3.2 BB/9 and 11.3 K/9 in 36 2/3 IP.

  • Last start: Win, 6 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 3 BB, 9 K in 4-1 road win vs. Toronto Blue Jays Tuesday
  • 2024 home splits: 1-2, 6.62 ERA, 17 2/3 IP, 13 ER, 27 H (1 HR), 7 BB, 22 K in 4 starts

Brewers at Royals odds

Provided by FanDuel Sportsbook ; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 9:49 a.m. ET.

  • Moneyline (ML) : Brewers +120 (bet $100 to win $120) | Royals -142 (bet $142 to win $100)
  • Run line (RL)/Against the spread (ATS) : Brewers +1.5 (-182) | Royals -1.5 (+150)
  • Over/Under (O/U) : 8.5 (O: -105 | U: -115)

Brewers at Royals picks and predictions

Brewers 4, Royals 3

LEAN BREWERS (+120) .

Milwaukee has won 3 of its last 5 games on the road and is one of MLB’s best-performing road teams. The Brewers have won 2 of Wilson’s 3 starts and have given up a combined 3 runs across those games.

The Royals have lost 2 games in a row, both at home, and allowed a combined 18 runs in those. They have lost 5 of their last 6 games at home. Given how well the Brewers have played in Wilson’s starts and on the road, back BREWERS (+120) .

Run line/Against the spread

There’s no great value here as the Brewers +1.5 (-182) are too expensive as a run-line underdog and the Royals -1.5 (+150) are too risky as a run-line favorite. Avoid a run-line play.

BET UNDER 8.5 (-115) .

In Ragans’ 4 home starts, the game has ended with 5, 7, 3 and 16 total runs, so 3 of those 4 would’ve gone Under this total. The Royals have gone Under in 4 of their last 5 games and are 11-22-2 O/U on the season.

Milwaukee is 19-13-1 O/U, so it has a more dynamic offense. But the Brewers are just 2-3-1 O/U in their last 6 games, scoring 3 or fewer in 2 of their last 3 and allowing 2 or fewer runs in 4 of their last 6 games.

Couple those trends together and back UNDER 8.5 (-115) .
