History of Dwarka

Dwarka on the western tip of the Kathiawar Peninsula is clubbed with the holiest sites in India – the Char Dhams which include Badrinath, Puri, and Rameshwaram. It is believed that Lord Krishna arrived here from Braj in Uttar Pradesh to build the city. The temple was established by his grandson. It is at the cusp of the Gomti River and the Arabian Sea, providing a scenic backdrop to the spiritual site. It is said that Dwarka was submerged under the sea six times and what we see now is its seventh avatar. The temple itself has a fascinating legend. The original structure was destroyed by Mahmud Begada in 1472 and subsequently rebuilt in the 15th-16th century. It was also feted by Adi Shankaracharya, the 8th-century Hindu theologian, and philosopher.

GUJARAT ITINERARY: FOR A PERFECT TRIP.

Gujarat is a mixed bag of hidden gems for travellers. Verdant ranges of Satpura-Vindhya-Aravalli, a 1300 km long coastline washed by the Arabian Sea, the Rann of Kutch (which sadly we couldn’t visit due to shortage of time), historical places some of which dates right back to the Harappan times, imposing temples and mosques, national parks and sanctuaries which serve as homes to Asiatic Lion, Blackbuck, Wild Ass, Flamingo and other diverse wildlife – Gujarat offers it all. So, here comes our 10-day itinerary for a memorable visit to the Land of Legends.

untitled 1063

Day 1: Fly to Ahmedabad and move onto Somnath.

On this day, you will arrive at Sardar Ballavbhai Patel Airport of Ahmedabad. As you collect your luggage and exit the airport, book an app cab and head straight to the Ahmedabad Railway Station. From there, board the Somnath Express in the night, which will reach Veraval the next morning.

Alternatively, you may also start your journey from Dwarka. Many trains ply between Ahmedabad and Dwarka, like Saurashtra Mail and Okha Express.

Somnath and Dwarka can also be reached by road. Private cabs can be booked. Also, over-night buses run from Ahmedabad. However, we suggest opting for train for a more comfortable and less tedious journey.

Day 2: Reach Somnath and explore.

The train will reach Veraval around 6 in the morning. Take a shared auto-rickshaw ride to Somnath, which is just 5 kms away from Veraval.

Somnath Mandir

Accomodation in Somnath:

Shree Somnath Trust offers comfortable accommodation at reasonable rates in its four guest houses- Lilavathi Atithi Bhavan, Maheswari Atithi Bhavan, Sagar Darshan Guest House and Tanna Atithigruha. Rooms can be booked online from the official site of the trust ( www.somnath.org ). Delicious Gujarati meals are also available in the dining halls of the guest houses.

After checking-in and having breakfast, start exploring the holy city. Here are a couple of places we would recommend in Somnath:

IMG 20181017 084104 Bokeh 01

  • Gita Mandir, which has 18 marble pillars with one chapter from the Bhagvat Gita inscribed on each one.
  • Baldev Gufa, a cave through which Lord Baldev disappeared to the netherworld.
  • Triveni Sangam, the confluence of Kapila, Hiran and the mythical Saraswati.
  • Bhalka Tirtha, where Jara had accidentally shot Lord Krishna with an arrow.
  • Prabhas Patan Museum, which is located inside a dingy lane beside the temple and houses a fascinating collection of the ruins and remnants of the old avatars of the temple.
  • Take an aimless stroll on the Somnath Beach during sunset.
  • Last but not the least, the majestic Somnath Temple, standing with all its glory on the shore of the Arabian Sea. The evening arati is not to be missed as it creates an electrifying ambiance inside the sanctum sanctorum. Afterwards, watch the light and sound show which narrates the myth and history of Somnath.

IMG 20181015 122212 Bokeh

Day 2: Take a day-trip to Diu.

Start your day with offering puja at Somnath Temple and watching the morning arati.

Afterwards, go to Diu , the sea-side Union Territory, which is 2-hour drive from Somnath. This erstwhile Portuguese colony has its fair share of pristine beaches lined with Hokka trees and imposing forts that dates back to 16 th century. Drop by the following places for an exciting Diu trip:

lighthouse 2

  • The colossal Diu Fort, which is surrounded by the sea and offers a commanding panoramic view of the town and sea.
  • The immaculate St. Paul’s Church, one of the finest examples of Baroque architecture in India.
  • The spectacular Naida Caves, a labyrinth of orange colored caves and tunnels covered with network of aerial prop roots of age old banyan trees.
  • The INS Khukri Memorial, a memorial site of the Indian naval ship during the Indo-Pak war of 1971.
  • A journey to Diu remains incomplete without a visit to its beaches. There is the popular Nagoa beach, which is a horse shoe shaped beach with Hoka trees swaying on its shore. Ghoghla beach is another pleasing beach, which is the largest beach in Diu and located on the outskirts of the city. If you are looking for the luxury of solitude, we suggest the small and placid Jalandhar beach, which is situated en route of Naida caves and almost untouched by tourists.

Naida Caves1

Day 3: Date with Asiatic Lions in Gir.

One of the highlights of Gujarat trip is definitely a visit to the Gir National Park , the only remaining natural habitat of the Asiatic Lions. Sprawled over an area of 1412 sq. km, the three hour long safari in an open gypsy through the depths of the forest for spotting lions is a fascinating experience. Apart from 523 lions, there are also Indian Leopards, Golden Jackal, Sambars, Chinkara, various birds, reptiles and insects. Don’t miss the Kamleswar Dam, which is known as the lifeline of Gir and where the water is infested with mugger crocodiles. Also, pay a visit to the villages of Maldhari and Sidhi tribes on the fringes of the forest who co-exist with the wildlife.

untitled 1432

Important information for booking safari ride in Gir.

1.Bookings for Gir Jungle Trail can be done online from www.girlion.gujarat.gov.in .

2.Safaris are available everyday at 3 time slots – 6 AM to 9 AM, 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM and 3 PM to 6 PM.

3.Gypsy permit charges are INR 800 for weekdays and INR 1000 for weekends and holidays.

4.The Guide charge is INR 400, while Gypsy charge is INR 1700, both of which has to be paid separately to guides and vehicle owners.

5.Carry valid ID proofs.

6.Safari remains closed from 16 th June to 15 th October every year. So, plan accordingly.

7.Gypsy safari can also be done in Devaliya National Park, also known as Gir Interpretation Zone.

8.There are 6 safari slots everyday spanning for 55 minutes. Devaliya remains closed on every Wednesday.

9.Bus safari is also available in Devaliya.

10.For better chances of spotting wildlife, we suggest visiting between March and May. Also, try opting for the earliest safari.

untitled 1482 Edit Luminar2018 edit

Accomodation in Gir.

You can find large number of hotels and resorts in Sasan Gir catering to any type of budget. We stayed at the Asiatic Lion Lodge, a beautiful resort with 16 cottages located amidst sprawling greenery. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, provided with all the necessities. It has arrangement for bird-watching, nature-walk, cycling and indoor games. Check out the superb collection of books on the wildlife of Gir available in its reception. The restaurant of the resort serves delicious vegetarian preparations. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

untitled 1502 Edit

Day 4: Enjoy a morning safari and proceed to Dwarka via Por Bandar.

Since we couldn’t spot a single Asiatic Lion the other day, we opted for a morning safari in Devaliya. Sadly, we managed to spot only a sleeping lion. However, the safari was not a total dud. As we were left dejected for not spotting Asiatic Lions properly, a leopard suddenly made an appearance out of nowhere and left us speechless.

untitled 1583

From Sasan Gir, we moved towards Por Bandar, which is 178 km. Watch out the giant wind turbines, which will provide ample entertainment on this long, tiring journey.

Por Bandar is best known as the birth place of Mahatma Gandhi. The prime attraction of this crowded town is Kirti Mandir, a memorial temple built in the memory of Gandhi and his wife Kasturba. Check out the gallery of photographs depicting life of the Mahatma and the things used by him preserved in a room near the entrance. Visit the ancestral home of Gandhi, which is located just beside Kirti Mandir. The place where he was born has been marked by a swastika symbol. Explore the nook and corners of the house for a feel of the past.

untitled 1603

Dwarka is still 105 km away. It will be already evening as you reach Dwarka.

Accomodation in Dwarka.

We stayed at Kokila Dhiraj Dham, built by Reliance Industries. It offers comfortable stay at affordable cost. Bookings have to be done over phone. You can check www.pndwarka.com for the details. Rooms are in high demand here and you need to call them at least 2-3 months prior to your visit.

There are many other options for staying in Dwarka like VITS Devbhumi Hotel and Dwarkadhish Lords Eco Inn.

Day 5: Explore Dwarka and Beyt Dwarka.

Dwarka, better known as Devbhoomi Dwarka, is one of the Chardhams and Saptapuris. We have listed the things to do in Dwarka here.

untitled 1709 Edit

  • Start your day with offering pooja at the resplendent Dwarkadhish Temple, where Lord Krishna is worshipped as the King of Dwarka who rules over the universe. The temple opens at 6-30 in the morning. We suggest visiting it then, as the temple remains closed several times a day.
  • The Nageshwar Jyotirlinga temple, located in the outskirts of Dwarka and which houses one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. The spectacular feature of the temple is a 25 metre tall statue of a sitting Shiva.
  • Beyt Dwarka, which can be reached from Dwarka by a 15-minute boat ride across the Arabian Sea. Beyt Dwarka is where Lord Krishna lived. Archaeological remains found under the sea suggest existence of Late Harappan settlements and trade relations with the Roman Empire. The temple is 15-minute walk from the port. Similar to the Dwarkadhish Temple, here also the temple remains closed and re-opens a number of times. We advise checking the timings before visiting.
  • Rukshmani Devi Temple, located 20 km outside Dwarka.
  • Bhadkeshwar Mahadev Temple, which is built over a self-manifested Shiva linga found in the Arabian Sea and remains submerged in the sea every year during monsoon.
  • Cross the Sudama Bridge to catch a beautiful sunset on the Dwarka Beach.
  • After sunset, relax on the benches beside the Gomti ghat and watch the fishermen’s trawlers twinkling far in the sea.
  • For dinner, pop into Dayro Kathiyawadi Rasthal for enjoying delectable Kathiyawadi cuisine with Bajra Chapati, Dahi Tikhari and Ringan Bhartu.
  • Recently, the Gujarat Tourism has started “Dekho Dwarka Tour” . It is a city tour of Dwarka on a double decker bus and costs INR 600/- per person.

untitled 1652

Day 6: Transfer to Ahmedabad.

The 6 th day will be spent entirely on train, as you will bid Dwarka adieu and head to Ahmedabad for the last leg of your travel. It will take around 8 hours to reach Ahmedabad.

Accomodation in Ahmedabad.

There is no dearth of hotels in Ahmedabad for every budget. We stayed in Hotel Accolade, which is situated in the beautiful locality of Ellisbridge.

Day 7: A day with history at Modhera and Patan.

Your first destination this day will be the magnificent Sun Temple of Modhera , which is about 100 km away from Ahmedabad. Try reaching the temple in the early morning and you will have it almost by yourself.

One of the few temples dedicated to the Sun God in India, the Solanki rule Bhima I is credited for building this opulent piece of architecture. You will surely fall head over heels at the very sight of this temple.

untitled 1791 Edit Luminar2018 edit

Descend down the geometric steps of the Surya Kund, located right in front of the temple. Marvel at the intricate craftsmanship of the 52 ornately decorated ‘toranas’ of the Sabhamandapa, which signify 52 weeks of a solar year. Check out the striking sculptures of 12 ‘adityas’ on the wall of the palatial Guramandapa, each representing 12 months of a solar year. Take your time in exploring every inch of this temple, which represents a perfect blend of ageless creativity and hard work.

untitled 1826 Edit Edit

Afterwards, an hour drive from Modhera will bring you to Patan, the home of renowned Patola sarees. The centre of attraction is the Rani Ki Vav or Queen’s Stepwell. It was constructed in the 11 th century by Queen Udayamati of Chalukyan dynasty. It is built in Maru-Gurjara style of architecture, with an inverted temple and 7 levels of stairs including 500 principal architectures, most of which are dedicated to Vishnu.

untitled 1954

The Rani Ki Vav is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Most recently, it has been featured on the new INR 100 currency.

Later, you may visit and watch the weaving of the intricate Patola sarees, which will be a memorable experience.

In the evening, visit the vibrant Sabarmati River Front.

For dinner, enjoy a scrumptious Gujarati Thali at the famous Agashiye restaurant.

Day 8: Explore Lothal.

For this day, go to see Lothal , the once thriving port city of Harappan Civilization which dates back to 2400 BC. Located just 78 km away from Ahmedabad, it is regarded as the earliest known dock of the world, which connected the city to an ancient course of Sabarmati river.

Head first to the famous dockyard, where once ships from as far as West Asia used to harbor. Beside it, remains of a warehouse can be seen. Then there is the acropolis or upper town, where drains, pot furnaces, wells etc can be spotted. Move towards the lower town through the cemetery and bead factory. You will be amazed by the brilliance of town planning of Harappan people.

Lastly, pay a visit to the well curated Lothal Archaeological Museum, which displays a huge collection of pottery, seals, beads, animal figurines, terracotta objects, skeleton remains and an array of diverse articles unearthed from various corners of Lothal. The museum as well as the site remains closed on Friday.

Afterwards, you may visit the Blackbuck National Park in Velavadar, which is 70 km away from Lothal. The park remains open from 7 AM – 6 PM. Along with hordes of blackbucks, you may also see blue bulls, Indian Hyena, jackals etc. If you are visiting during winter months, you may spot different kinds of migratory birds here.

Alternatively, you may go to Balasinor, some 140 km away from Lothal, which is known as India’s Jurassic Park. Excavations have unearthed large number of fossilized eggs, bones and skeletons of at least 13 species of dinosaurs. Princess Aaliya of the Babi dynasty is an enthusiast of the emerging “Dinosaur Tourism” and she herself conducts tour of the fossil park.

Day 9: Tour through Ahmedabad.

The last day of the trip is stored for Ahmedabad, the first UNESCO World Heritage City of India. The green city is dotted with a number of heritage spots and here we have listed the best ones:

Day 10: Returning home.

So here the epic 10-day trip to Gujarat ends. It’s time to return home and plan the next venture while cuddling the loads of memories made in Gujarat.

untitled 1633

Some tips for visiting Gujarat.

1.For getting around in Gujarat, we suggest hiring private cabs as it would save lots of time and energy. For our Somnath to Dwarka road trip, we had booked Sitaram Taxi Service of Somnath after reading several good reviews on Tripadvisor. They were prompt in communication and provided us with excellent car and reliable driver. For travelling around Ahmedabad, we suggest booking an app cab for all day long.

2.Best time for visiting Gujarat is October – March. For Gir, we suggest visiting in the summer months of April-May.

3.Gujarat is mostly a vegetarian state. Also, alcohol is strictly prohibited.

4.The weather will mostly be sunny and sultry. Therefore, always arm yourself with ample water and umbrellas.

5.Gujarat offers diverse food. From the regular Dhokla-Khakra-Thepla to the exotic Doodhpak-Bharela Ringan-Undhiyu, we suggest gorging on all local offerings.

6.Please respect the local culture and environment.

Hi, I Suggest you, that 1 or 2 day is not enough of visiting Amdavad (Ahmedabad) b’coz many palce you don’t include in your list. In Ahmedabad is one of the travel destination place of Gujarat. So, many of places are there in Ahmedabad as toursit attraction. Specially heritage places of Pole in Ahmedabad, Gandhi Ashram, Sabarmati Lake front, Bhadra fort and it’s market and so on. So, it’s been One week for traveling whole Ahmedabad is enough.

Yes Ali, one or two days trip is mot sufficient. Ahmedabad has many places but based on the interest it can decide how many days it needs…

Akshardham temple is not included, if I want to modify the tour is it possible ?

For modification and price you have to hire a personal car.

You can Contact on this number : 9925438283 (Bhavesh Dabhi). Pickup / drop facility available from your suitable location.

Itinerary seems very limited for that price and Akshardham was not included. Can we add Akshardham also?

Thanks for suggestions. It is defined by the travel company. According to me, tour is belong to the Ahmedabad only while akshardham is located at Gandhinagar. So it may not cover all places of ahmedabad if they will cover akshardham. Still I guess they will think option package with akshardham as soon as they read this 🙂

Double-decker buses arrive for juneau cruise ship visitors.

May 29, 2024 | News , Tourism , Transportation

By stacking passengers on top of each other, Holland America and Princess Alaska can halve the footprint of shoreside shuttle operations.

Holland America Princess

To reduce its footprint—or wheelprint—in Juneau, Carnival Corporation retired its fleet of eight buses for shoreside excursions and replaced them with four that are twice as tall. Double-decker buses are being used to shuttle cruise ship visitors from Juneau Harbor to the scenic vistas at Mendenhall Glacier.

Half the Busses, Better Service

Carnival Corporation’s land and sea operations for Holland America and Princess Alaska (HAP) rely on a combination of cruise ships, buses, motor coaches, and railroad connections. Just as the summer tourist season is revving up, the HAP team swapped out the Juneau fleet of eight older buses with four newer Enviro500 tour buses.

The double-decker buses each have approximately the same capacity as two older ones. Therefore, the shoreside operation is able to shuttle as many passengers but with less air pollution, fuel consumption, and overall environmental footprint.

“We want to do our part and help with cleaner air and less traffic,” says Bill Hagevig, HAP’s division manager in Juneau. “We’ve long worked to do the right thing and be respectful neighbors, and these buses are another step along that path.”

The Enviro500 buses will use a 10 percent blend of biodiesel to further reduce carbon emissions.

Stacking upward streamlines bus operations in other ways. HAP notes that two fewer trips per day will need to be dispatched. That further reduces the amount of traffic in downtown Juneau, where streets can become crowded when cruise ships are docked. Shrinking traffic and pedestrian flow downtown and at Mendenhall Glacier is also a part of the fleet change.

In addition to the upper deck, the lower decks of the Enviro500 buses are closer to the ground, enabling faster loading and unloading of seventy to eighty guests, compared to a traditional coach with fifty guests. This should reduce boarding wait times at each end of the shuttle route.

HAP wrapped the new buses with logos for the company’s “SAY” sustainability program, short for “Sustain Alaska and the Yukon,” intended to focus on reducing waste, utility usage, and the company’s carbon footprint.

Enviro500, built by a Scottish company, is the best-selling three-axle double-decker bus model in the world.

Double-decker buses, multimodal transport hubs, and more with AMTS budget 2024-25

Amts has a total debt of ₹353 cr for the years 2023–24, yet the corporation will allot ₹410 cr as a loan.

Updated: Jan 31st, 2024

The Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS)  rolled out a draft budget of ₹641 cr for 2024–25 on Jan 30.

Despite a ₹4,223 cr loan from Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on AMTS, transport manager Arjav Shah presented the draft budget of ₹641 cr with a plan to launch multimodal transport hubs, CNG buses, and double-decker buses.

A total of 1,020 buses are likely to run on the roads in the upcoming fiscal year. Out of these, 125 buses will be allotted for operation and maintenance, and 895 will be operated by private operators.

AMTS has a total debt of ₹353 cr for the years 2023–24, yet the corporation will allot ₹410 cr as a loan.

Ditching the regular diesel-run buses, CNG buses will be operational this year.

For the ease of commuters, a total of seven AC double-decker buses will be deployed on higher revenue-generating routes, with one starting today.

Revenue loss in last four years

The AMTS paid a total of ₹1.26 cr as compensation for 31 accidents in the last three years.

A total of 496 cases against AMTS have been registered in court since 1990.

Transport hubs

To enhance AMTS, BRTS (Bus Rapid Transit System), and metro connectivity, multimodal transport hubs have been proposed at Memnagar, Akhbarnagar, and RTO Depot.

A feasibility study will be conducted by AMC for those who are using AMTS and BRTS for entering and exiting the city.

Every terminus or bus stand will have an installed public information system (PIS) with a QR code to provide information to AMTS bus passengers.

Under the Chief Minister Urban Bus Service (CMUBS), an estimated funding of ₹120 cr will be provided.

Gujarat Launches Electric Double-decker Buses at Vibrant Gujarat Summit

gujarat tourism double decker bus

  • Gujarat Launches Electric Double-decker Bus

gujarat tourism double decker bus

Gujarat has taken a big step towards green and smart mobility by launching the Switch EiV 22, a carbon-neutral electric double-decker bus, at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024. The event was held at the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City) and attended by Shri. Bhupendrabhai Patel, the Chief Minister of Gujarat, and other eminent personalities.

The Switch EiV 22 is a product of Switch Mobility Ltd, a Hinduja Group company that specialises in electric buses and light commercial vehicles. The Chief Minister and other dignitaries took the inaugural ride of the bus, which offers a panoramic view, comfortable seats, and innovative features. The bus also has a 231 kWh battery pack that can run for 250 km per day.

The Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) has procured five such buses, which will ply on the Gandhinagar-Ahmedabad route along the SG Highway. Switch Mobility will handle the supply, operation, and maintenance of these buses, ensuring a smooth and eco-friendly transit service for the commuters.

Mahesh Babu, the CEO of Switch Mobility Automotive Ltd, said that the Switch EiV 22 is a game-changer for urban mobility in India, as it combines technology and sustainability. He added that the company’s vision is to improve lives through green mobility, and that its fleet of nearly 600 electric buses has already covered over 50+ million kilometers across major Indian cities since 2018. He hailed the launch of Switch EiV 22 at the Vibrant Gujarat Summit as a milestone for sustainable urban transportation.

BYD BD11 launched: a new double decker EV bus for UK market

BYD has raised the curtain on a new EV double decker bus model customized for the UK market. The model, named BYD BD11 , features Blade Battery modules integrated in the chassis (as the B12 presented at Busworld 2023 ). The bus, specially tailored for London, is set to enter service later this year. And plans are in place “for a provincial model to follow soon after”, BYD states.

The new bus is 10.9 meters long and can accommodate up to 90 passengers . Until now, BYD has been providing EV buses, as well as double-decker models, within a joint venture with Alexander Dennis. Now ADL has developed a in-house electric bus range (although in late 2023 the company stressed that “in addition to its next-generation buses,  Alexander Dennis will continue to sell and support electric buses built in partnership with BYD “).

The BYD BD11 is the first in-house developed e-bus by BYD offered to the UK market.

The unveiling took place at the London Bus Museum, that also houses the first electric bus with a BYD K9E chassis dedicated to the London public transport network. In the UK over 1,800 BYD e-buses are currently in operation, with a total operating mileage of more than 80 million miles.

BYD BD11 features Blade Battery modules

The BYD BD11 becomes the latest vehicle to feature BYD’s renowned Blade Battery with a capacity of up to 532 kWh . It offers flexible and rapid charging options, supporting dual-gun charging and pantograph fast charging up to 500kW, which means that the BYD BD11 can be recharged in the shortest possible time, from 0 to 100 per cent in just two hours, the group states.

The Blade Battery is integrated into the chassis to save weight, increase driving range, and afford high levels of stability and maneuverability, while also increasing interior space for passengers.

The lightweight battery pack “has been designed to improve space utilisation by 50% more than a traditional battery pack, while maintaining high levels of energy density. Using each cell as a structural beam to help withstand force, the battery also achieves high levels of strength and torsional stiffness and has a low centre of gravity to increase stability and manoeuvrability”, BYD says.

BYD BD11, focus on the drivetrain

The BYD BD11 is driven by two 150kW electric motors . Incorporating multiple functions into a single assembly, the motors use an innovative 6-in-1 controller that simplifies the vehicle’s electronics for improved reliability. The electric motor controls, steering control unit, air compressor controller, DC-DC converter and power distributor unit are combined into a single package.

The 6-in-1 motor uses cutting edge Silicon Carbide (SiC) technology that yields and impressive 99.5% efficiency with a 15% weight reduction compared to traditional controllers according to BYD.

This set-up, BYD adds, “maximises energy efficiency and eliminates the need for a traditional drivetrain with separate axles and transmission. Combining a flat wire and an oil-free solution for a 15% weight reduction over conventional motors, the motor design allows for more efficient use of space, as well as improved cooling to enhance performance and power output. It offers up to 600 Nm torque for responsive acceleration, which is especially beneficial on steep inclines”.

ADAS suite for BYD BD11 double decker e-bus for UK

In addition, the BYD BD11 is equipped with an integrated thermal management system to optimise energy utilisation, plus active suspension control and a comprehensive suite of enhanced safety features, including the Advanced Driver Assistance System ( ADAS ).

The e-bus with London specification is indeed equipped with a range of advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS), including Advanced Emergency Braking System (AEBS), Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM), Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA).

It also meets the industry standard (R155/R156) for cybersecurity and software updates to ensure optimum system security throughout its lifecycle; regular updates will be made to maintain the security and integrity of software systems and protect the fleet against evolving threats.

An over-the-air (OTA) Fleetlink upgrade feature is being developed, which will allow the vehicle to be updated remotely to eliminate the need for physical visits to service centres . Fleet operators will be able to remotely access and upgrade the bus systems, ensuring that the BYD BD11 remains up to date with the latest software enhancements and optimisations.

“BYD is committed to technological innovation and spearheading the global transition towards eco-conscious public transportation,” comments Frank Thorpe , Managing Director, BYD UK Commercial Vehicles. “The BYD BD11 will play a pivotal role in contributing to the reduction of air pollution in London and, soon after, the UK’s wider carbon neutrality goals. We are proud to launch our own all-new electric double decker bus with highly innovative, world-leading technology for safe and reliable electric mobility, providing operators with modern eco-friendly eBus options that meet their specifications, thus providing more people the choice to use clean, non-polluting bus services in the future.”
