One Trip at a Time

New Orleans, or the “Big Easy”, is an amazing city to visit with  lots to do  for all cruisers – couples, families, and children – so it is worth considering adding a day or two in the city before your ship departs to extend your cruise vacation. Even if you aren’t interested in exploring the city we’d still highly recommend arriving at least a day in advance to give yourself a little cushion if you experience travel delays.

Another benefit to staying overnight before your cruise is that many of New Orleans’ hotels offer free parking and a shuttle to the port, usually with only a one-night stay required. This could be a good option for you to help save some money on the costs of your cruise parking. Even if you aren’t travelling to the city by car, a free shuttle to the port can save a little money if you’ve flown in the night before your cruise.

We’ve rounded up some great options that offer ‘Park & Cruise’ packages and have done a quick comparison in the table below. As with all our tables, you can filter and sort the information to quickly find a hotel that is perfect for you. Clicking on the name of the hotel will take you to further details below, including reviews so you can find out what other travellers have to say.

Information in the table is correct as of May 2019, but as prices can vary, please ensure you confirm the price before purchasing. There is also a  map  showing the locations of each hotel at the bottom of the post.

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND

Although New Orleans is geared toward welcoming visitors and has many hotel rooms to choose from, we recommend you make your reservations in advance, especially during the busy periods for cruises (e.g. school holidays and summer) or during festivals when hotels might be booked up. This will help ensure you are able to get your preferred hotel and room type.

We also recommend you call the hotel you are interested in to check the availability of their ‘Park & Cruise’ packages as there may be a limited number of rooms available with this offer and some hotels may only offer this option if you make the reservation directly with them.

New Orleans Hotels With Cruise Port & Airport Shuttles (Or Walking Distance to the Ship)

If you plan to sail from the Port of New Orleans for your next cruise, then there is a good chance you’ll be spending some time in town before your trip.

New Orleans

Not only is it a good idea to arrive to your port city at least a day early in case there are any delays in your travel, but New Orleans is a world-class city to visit for fun. From food to entertainment to culture to history, the city offers something for everyone. It would be a mistake to take a cruise from New Orleans and miss out.

That said, if you are flying in for your cruise, then there is the headache of trying to figure out transportation while you are in the city. Yes, you can rent a car to get around, but what do you do with it while you are on the ship? And you can also take taxis or Uber/Lyft your way around the city, but that can quickly get expensive.

That’s why some hotels in New Orleans offer shuttle service for their guests to the cruise port and/or airport. This can drastically cut down on the expense of getting to the port, so some hotels in the area offer transportation to entice cruise passengers to stay the night.

Other hotels are close enough to the cruise port that you can walk to the terminal come cruise day .

Put simply, if you stay at one of these hotels, you can save some decent cash on transportation costs.

To help you out, we’ve searched out New Orleans hotels with shuttles or within a short walk to the ship. We’ll be honest — while there are tons of hotels around the port, the number offering shuttle service to the port is relatively small. This is especially the case after the health crisis, when a number of hotels stopped shuttle service.

That’s why we’ve covered a number of options below, including hotels within walking distance of the cruise port. This way you have more choice in finding the perfect hotel for your cruise.

More Hotel Ideas: You can also click here to see hotels near the New Orleans cruise port or see “Park and Cruise” hotels in the port area .

New Orleans Hotels With Cruise Shuttles

Before the health crisis, several hotels in the city offered shuttle rides over to the cruise port. Now the numbers are far fewer. For most spots, a quick Uber/Lyft is your best option to get to the ship. We also have included hotels within a short walk of the port in another section below.

Hampton Inn & Suites Convention Center As for location, it really doesn’t get much better than this. While the Hampton Inn at the Convention Center is within walking distance of the port, it also offers a shuttle to the cruise terminal. While we didn’t see the offer online, a call to the hotel (504-566-9990) told us it was available.

There is not a shuttle from the airport, so you’ll need to find your own method of transportation if flying in. If driving, the Hampton Inn offers a cruise package with parking for $17 a night — a little cheaper than the parking rate at the official port parking lots — and a ride over to the ship.

  • Price: $$-$$$
  • Distance to Port: 0.5 miles
  • Review Rating: 4.5 out of 5

Hampton Inn & Suites Harvey/New Orleans West Bank When it comes to hotel brands, Hampton Inn seems to be one that everyone can agree on. As well, we find they usually offer some of the best amenities to guests. This Hampton Inn sits about 15 minutes from cruise ships in New Orleans. We called and they allow you to park your car for free while you cruise if you stay the night before. In addition, they have a third-party shuttle to the cruise port for just $10 per person. You simply let the staff know at check-in that you’d like to leave your car.

  • Distance to Port: 7 miles
  • Review Rating: 4 out of 5

Best Western Plus West Bank That old New Orleans style is great, but let’s be honest. It can also be a hassle to be in the busy French Quarter. If you want a taste of New Orleans without the price or hassle, this might be it. The relatively modest hotel is built with an inner courtyard holding a pool and even wrought-iron balcony railings. The hotel offers a “Cruise Park and Stay” deal with parking included for 7 nights (extra nights are $10 each) and a one-way shuttle to the port. You will need to find a ride back to your car. If you don’t need to park, give the hotel a call (504-366-5369) regarding just a shuttle ride.

  • Distance to Port: 8 miles

New Orleans Hotel

New Orleans Hotels Within Walking Distance of the Cruise Terminal

Given the location of the cruise terminals in the heart of New Orleans, there are a number of hotels that are within walking distance — meaning you don’t even need a shuttle to get to your ship. Expect to pay a bit more to be in this location, but it’s worth it to be right next to the ships.

Note that prices can and will change depending on what is happening at the Convention Center.

Hilton New Orleans Riverside One of the closest hotels to the cruise terminals, the Hilton overlooks the Mississippi River and is within walking distance of not just the port but also the French Quarter, Harrah’s Casino, and more. How close is it? The cruise parking lot for the Julia Street Terminal is just a couple of hundred feet away.

  • Distance to Port: 0.3 miles

New Orleans Marriott Warehouse Arts District This Marriott is literally across the street from the Convention Center, with the cruise terminal on the other side. A quick walk around the end of the building puts you at the cruise terminals on embarkation day. In addition, the stylish hotel also earns rave reviews from travelers and puts your right in an area with tons to do nearby.

Hyatt Place New Orleans Convention Center Next door to the Marriott Warehouse Arts District, Hyatt Place is another solid option that’s just a few minutes walk to the cruise ships. Guest reviews on Google provide a 4 out of 5 stars, and you have a number of amenities like free breakfast, Internet, and fitness center.

Hilton Garden Inn New Orleans Convention Center As with most hotels located near the Convention Center, the Hilton Garden Inn is within walking distance of the cruise ships. You’re also near the National WWII Museum and tons of restaurants. With nearly 300 rooms, this hotel is also a good choice if looking for a place on a busy weekend.

Omni New Orleans Riverfront It’s hard to get closer to the cruise port than the Omni. It’s across the street from the Julia Street Terminal parking and only about a 10-minute walk to the Erato Street Terminal. Of course with this location there are also a ton of restaurants and shops around as well for before your cruise.

SpringHill Suites Downtown/Convention Center SpringHill Suites sits just a couple of blocks from the Convention Center, and then the cruise terminals. The walk should only take about 15 minutes, meaning you don’t need a shuttle or other transportation to the port. Meanwhile, it’s a highly rated and relatively affordable hotel given the popularity of the area.

  • Distance to Port: 0.4 miles

Courtyard New Orleans Downtown/Convention Center Stay here when you cruise, and when you’re ready to head to your ship, just walk out to Julia Street, head toward the Mississippi and you’ll be at the port in about five minutes.  That’s convenient given that we found some nights with rooms around $100 a night in a location right across from a ton of restaurants and near the port. The pool in the courtyard also a neat feature.

Embassy Suites New Orleans Convention Center Right across from the Courtyard listed above, the Embassy Suites is another option that’s just down Julia Street from the ships. You can be at the Royal Caribbean or Norwegian terminal in about five minutes and to the Carnival ship in about 10 minutes.

New Orleans Hotels With Airport Shuttles

In addition to the hotels we found offering a shuttle to the Port of New Orleans, there are many that offer shuttle transportation between the hotel and the airport. If flying in, this saves you some money getting between the airport and where you’re staying. A quick Uber/Lyft can then get you to the cruise port .

La Quinta Inn New Orleans Airport A name that’s long known for offering comfortable — yet affordable — accommodations, the La Quinta near the airport offers a free shuttle that runs between your flight and the hotel. You would still need to find transportation to the cruise port. Other amenities include a bar, pool, and fitness center. Suites are also available.

  • Price: $-$$
  • Distance to Port: 13.5 miles
  • Review Rating: 3.5 out of 5

Hilton New Orleans Airport Literally right across from the airport, the Hilton New Orleans has a 24-hour shuttle. It’s also higher-end than other hotels right around the airport, so it might be up your alley if you’re looking for somewhere a little nicer to stay. It simply doesn’t get more convenient than this location if you have a late flight into New Orleans for your cruise.

  • Distance to Port: 13 miles

Comfort Inn & Suites New Orleans Airport North With a location just north of the airport, if you are flying in it’s hard to get closer than this hotel. It features all the classic amenities you’d expect in a hotel, including pool and breakfast. In addition, it has a 24-hour airport shuttle. A ride to the cruise port with Uber or Lyft would run about $30-$35 each way.

  • Distance to Port: 14 miles

DoubleTree by Hilton New Orleans Airport Minutes from the airport, the DoubleTree is a great idea if you’re flying in for your cruise. It features a 24-hour shuttle back and forth from your flights. In addition, it’s a higher-end hotel with solid reviews. With fitness center, pool, and even an on-site restaurant, it has everything you need for a nice stay. You’re about 20-25 minutes from the port at this location.

  • Distance to Port: 12 miles

Best Western Plus New Orleans Airport A newer hotel, this spot sits on the south side of the New Orleans airport. To be sure if you’re coming to the city for the New Orleans experience, this might not be your first choice. But if you want something close to the airport that’s new, comfortable, and offers shuttle service, this is a good option. The shuttle runs from 4 a.m. to midnight, meaning you should be able to catch a ride no matter the time of day.

  • Distance to Port: 14.5 miles

Comfort Inn New Orleans Airport South Sometimes you just need something easy and basic for a place to stay. If you’re wanting that, then you might be interested in this Comfort Inn. It features a free airport shuttle, along with things like free breakfast and Wi-Fi. Get a good night’s sleep and then on cruise day it will be a 30-minute ride over to the port.

  • Distance to Port: 15 miles

Holiday Inn Express & Suites New Orleans Airport South This hotel located southwest of the airport offers a free shuttle around the clock. In addition, if driving in they also offer parking during your trip for $12 per day. As a bonus this hotel might be a good idea if traveling with a larger group as the suites offer more space.

GoPort Fly/Snooze/Cruise Reviews - Port Canaveral vs. Orlando Hotels?

By abccba , August 3, 2019 in Florida Departures

Cool Cruiser

I've tried to search this board but no luck.

We are a party of 6 people:  2 kids (ages 4 and 6) and 4 adults (elderly mom and aunt) - cruising out of Port Canaveral in Feb 2020. I've previously only sailed out of Fort Lauderdale previously so still figuring out the best way to arrange transportation/hotel pre-cruise (flying in the night before). Given that my mom and aunt have mobility issues and we have our young kids too, we are trying to find the easiest/least stressful (but also cost efficient) route to take.

1. Reviews of GoPort.com and their "Fly, Snooze, Cruise" packages? Are they reliable/on-time for transportation (I think they are coach buses)? Are their package prices truly better vs. booking hotel and private shuttles separately?

2. The packages for Orlando hotels look a bit cheaper than for Cape Canaveral hotels. Assuming they take into account the possibility of traffic etc. on the day of the cruise (the Orlando hotels I'm looking at say pick-ups range between 10:30am and 11:45am). Even with traffic/construction etc. this is sufficient time to make it from Orlando to the port on time?

3. I'm used to FLL pre-cruise hotels with nearby stores to pick up water/pop/wine to carry-on board.  Are the hotels in Orlando and Cape Canaveral in walking distance of a grocery store to pick up last minute supplies?

Appreciate any help or advice. Thanks!

Thanks, GTO-Girl - I did see Steerage Joe's post in that thread which briefly mentioned GoPort re: shuttles but it doesn't answer my questions re: fly/snooze/cruise packages and Orlando vs. Port Canaveral hotels.

I'm curious on the GoPort route also.... for it being so cheap it makes me wonder. I would love to hear real reviews from people who have actually used it.

Often suggested on this board.  Lots of Hotels near MCO compared to PC/Cocoa Beach, so I suspect they are able to get discounted rates leading to slightly cheaper prices. We prefer to stay in Orlando pre-cruise, especially if our flight arrives later in the day.

Lets do a quick pricing check shall we? Please check my math yourself and comment please! I am bad with numbers.

Sep 8, 2019 - one night for 2pax

GoPort - Homewood Suites King Bed for 2 pax, breakfast included - Fly - Snooze - Cruise Package - $471.38

Room with Breakfast:

Booking.com - $185.47

Hilton - $206.08 (flexible rate)

Let's pick Booking.com.

Now add the one way shared Port transfer from the hotel - $12 (for 2 pax) with Cocoa Beach Shuttle

Add the one-way shared Airport transfer to the Hotel - $58 (for 2 pax) with Cocoa Beach Shuttle

Add the one-way shared Airport from Port to Airport with GoPort Bus - $29.98

Total with Booking.com = $285.45

Seems to me it is MUCH cheasper to book direct online ? $186 savings! Disclaimer - your actual savings will surely depend on the hotel, travel dates, number of people.

What do you think? Did I make mistakes? Let's discuss.

Joe, I think you found a winner!

Thanks so much - since I posted originally, I've been doing the math on a bunch of hotels, and similarly found that the GoPort pricing wasn't that competitive (but wasn't sure if I was missing something!)

I am leaning towards booking directly with the hotel/shuttle services directly (instead of GoPort) but had seen lots of positive reviews on TripAdvisor and Facebook, but less here, so wanted to know if anyone else had any reviews.

Thanks again!

Any suggestions on hotels near MCO? There seem to be more options with MCO hotels and they seem a bit less than the PC/Cocoa Beach ones.

I'm a Starwood (now Marriott etc.) member so checking out the Sheraton/Marriott/4 points etc. brands, and also looked at the Hyatt Place Orlando Airport (since have had good experiences with the Hyatt Place in Fort Lauderdale). I'm sure any of them would be find but it's always nice to get a recommendation too....

I stayed at that Hyatt Place last November (didn't want to drive down to Cocoa Beach at night after a long flight).  It was an OK hotel for my points.  It's definitely a lower-end type of Hyatt (similar to Springhill with Marriott), but better than Super 8/La Quinta.  I'm a picky person - I work for hotels and I'm used to staying at Westin/St. Regis/Hyatt Regency/W/Andaz - so I'm a little harsh maybe.  I left a note at the Front Desk for some little things I found wrong that the hotel might want to fix before the next guest (some gaps in the tub seal, a big stain on the carpet, a piece of molding broken off at the entry door), but most may not have noticed (I do room inspections to a Forbes level where I work).  It is a perfectly fine family-class hotel.  You've stayed at HP before, so you know the product.  This was my first time at a HP. I just walked down the street to a BBQ place for dinner - lots of chains within 3 blocks of the hotel.

The hotels near Port Canaveral do not have a store nearby - you'd have to take a Lyft or Uber to get to the nearest store.

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I'm a bit picky with my hotels too so appreciate your advice.

To be honest, I wasn't looking.  That area is Hotel Central, with probably every tourist-class hotel brand within a couple of blocks and lots of restaurants.  There is a mall up maybe a half mile away, but I don't know if it has any kind of grocery store.

ATSEAMYLIFE

Simple: book the Hyatt inside MCO and catch the ship shuttle in the AM.

I'm Hilton brand loyal.  I much prefer booking directly on the hotel www site.  If something goes wrong or you need to change/cancel a RSVP the Hilton www site is the easiest.  It's not worth the few $$ risked when things need to get changed or canceled.

We did something similar to your plans last year with the six of us about the same ages.  DW and I flew in to FLL five days early (cheaper and because we could), spent two nights FLL, then rented a car and drove up to CoCo Beach.

Kids came into MCO and I booked them a driver using www.limos.com.  I have used them several times and they are a great site to price shop.  They provided car seats for the kids.  We stayed pre-cruise at the Hilton CoCo Beach Oceanfront and it was outstanding.  Nice rooms, walk out to the beach, and a great restaurant/bar.  I used limos.com to get us to the pier with car seats and the ships shuttle to get us to MCO (no car seats required).

Nothing within walking distance - although the small minimart across the busy road sell wine and beer and things.

Thanks

I also considered using fly/cruise/snooze for our extended family of 10 which includes two 3yo & two 6yo. We're not cruising until May 2020 but ended up booking three rooms at the Doubletree Hilton (great member pricing)..They have a comp shuttle to their hotel from MCO and then am considering using Cruise Control (private transportation) for our round trip from hotel to Port Canaveral and then from the port back to MCO. We'll need carseats & booster seats and they provide them.

This priced out better booking directly individually rather than the fly/cruise/snooze package.

The Doubletree! I've been wondering when they will re-open...we went to 3 Wishes restaurant often. Did they say anything about a re-opening date?

The hotel is still closed and I do not see any construction going on either.

A bit confused as we've booked the one on Hazeltine...Doubletree by Hilton Orlando Airport. I understand there is more than one Doubletree so which one are you referring to ?

Cocoa Beach!  Did not know you meant Orlando! Good choice!

Whew !!! Thanks I was hoping you weren't talking about the Doubletree I booked. Glad you think it's a good choice. Our flight doesn't land until almost 4:00pm and since we're traveling with four kids we thought it best to just stay in Orlando for the night and use a private shuttle to get us to Cape Canaveral the next day.

For me I did the math, for only 2 people and the STAYBRIDGE SUITES ORLANDO AIRPORT it was cheaper through the package than using booking or directly from the hotel.

If you can show the breakdown of the pricing it will be very helpful!

we have done the fly-snooze-cruise at port Canaveral several times. we are using it again for our cruise November 17. it is great. we stay at hotels that offer free breakfast to save about $100. the pick up is on time. they will stop at other properties before heading to the port. there has never been anything close to a time issue. they are professional . when departing the ship we have always done the self assist and are on the bus to the airport within an hour of docking. rest assured that the program will be well done.

New Orleans Cruise & Stay

"New Orleans is a city that has it all; incredible food, soulful jazz and a fantastic nightlife."

Welcome to New Orleans

Known as the 'Big Easy', New Orleans is a city that's known for it's 24-hour nightlife and vibrant music scene. The local cuisine reflects its history as a melting pot of French, African and American cultures. The late-winter carnival of Mardi Gras famed for its raucous costumed parades and street parties embodies New Orleans' wild and festive spirit.

In the Spring time, 'Jazz Fest' takes over celebrating New Orleans as the birth of the music genre. Bars and cafés line Bourbon Street which runs through the centre of the architecturally ornate French Quarter.

The city is renowned for its unique culture and society, which is a blend of many heritages. It’s particularly known for its significant African American community, which has contributed to making New Orleans the birthplace of jazz. The city is also famous for its distinctive music, Creole cuisine, unique dialects, and its annual celebrations and festivals, most notably Mardi Gras.

The historic heart of the city is the French Quarter, known for its French and Spanish Creole architecture and vibrant nightlife along Bourbon Street. Despite facing urban challenges like other U.S. cities, New Orleans has managed to preserve an exuberant and uninhibited spirit, best exemplified by its Carnival season, which culminates in the famous annual Mardi Gras, when more than a million people throng the streets.

In addition to being a major tourist resort, New Orleans is also a medical, industrial, and educational center. The city was founded in 1718 by French colonist Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville and was ceded to Spain in 1763. Today, it stands as one of the most distinctive cultural centers in North America.

Things to do in new orleans.

Explore the French Quarter

Known as the heart and soul of the city, the French Quarter is famous for its vibrant nightlife, historic sites, and unique architecture…

The French Quarter, known also as Vieux Carré, is the heart and soul of New Orleans. This historic district is a vibrant area, alive with the sounds of jazz music wafting from street corners and the tantalizing aroma of Creole and Cajun cuisines from local restaurants.

As you walk through its narrow cobblestone streets, you’re transported back in time with the sight of charming Creole townhouses adorned with intricate ironwork balconies. These buildings, some of which date back to the 18th century, are painted in a palette of pastel hues, adding to the Quarter’s distinctive charm.

The French Quarter is a cultural melting pot, reflecting the diverse heritage of the city. It’s home to the iconic St. Louis Cathedral, which overlooks Jackson Square, a bustling hub for artists, musicians, and street performers.

Bourbon Street, the Quarter’s most famous thoroughfare, is a testament to New Orleans’ spirit of celebration. At night, it transforms into a lively strip of bars, clubs, and restaurants, where the party goes on until the early hours of the morning.

Despite the revelry, the French Quarter has a mystical side too. It’s not uncommon to find shops selling voodoo paraphernalia, fortune tellers offering tarot card readings, and ghost tours recounting the city’s haunted history.

In essence, the French Quarter is a place where history, culture, music, and food intertwine, creating an experience that is uniquely New Orleans. It’s a place that both enchants and captivates, leaving a lasting impression on all who visit.

Jackson Square

This historic park in the French Quarter is a must-visit. It’s a great place to relax, people-watch, and enjoy the surrounding architecture…

Jackson Square, a historic park in the heart of New Orleans’ French Quarter, is a vibrant and iconic landmark. It’s a place where art, history, and culture converge, offering a unique snapshot of the city’s rich heritage.

The square is framed by the majestic St. Louis Cathedral, the oldest continuously active Roman Catholic cathedral in the United States. Flanked by the Cabildo and the Presbytère, two equally historic buildings, the cathedral’s three spires rise majestically against the sky, creating a picturesque scene.

At the center of the square, you’ll find an equestrian statue of Andrew Jackson, the seventh President of the United States, after whom the square is named. The statue, with Jackson tipping his hat, is a popular photo spot for visitors.

Jackson Square is also an open-air artist colony, where local artists display their artwork on the iron fence. It’s not uncommon to see painters, sketchers, and caricaturists at work, adding a splash of color and creativity to the square.

The perimeter of the square is lined with a mix of quaint shops, boutiques, and eateries, offering everything from local crafts to Creole cuisine. The nearby Café du Monde, famous for its beignets and café au lait, is a must-visit.

Whether it’s the lively street performers, the soothing jazz music, or the bustling French Market nearby, there’s always something happening in and around Jackson Square. It’s a place that encapsulates the spirit of New Orleans - a blend of the past and the present, tradition and celebration, all set against a backdrop of architectural beauty.

If you’re visiting during the Carnival season, don’t miss the city’s famous Mardi Gras celebrations…

Mardi Gras in New Orleans is a grand spectacle of color, music, and revelry. It’s a city-wide celebration that transforms the streets into a vibrant carnival, filled with parades, masquerade balls, and street parties.

The heart of Mardi Gras is its parades, where elaborately decorated floats roll down the streets. On these floats, costumed riders toss “throws” to the crowd, which include beads, doubloons, and other trinkets. The sight of people reaching out for these coveted throws is a quintessential Mardi Gras experience.

Music is the soul of Mardi Gras, with the air filled with the sounds of jazz, blues, and zydeco. Marching bands, dance troupes, and performers add to the festive atmosphere, their energy infectious and their performances captivating.

One of the most unique aspects of Mardi Gras is the tradition of the “krewe”, social clubs that organize the parades and balls. Each krewe has its own history and traditions, and their themes and costumes add a unique flavor to the celebrations.

Mardi Gras is also a feast for the senses. The smell of Creole and Cajun food wafts through the air, from gumbo and jambalaya to king cake, a special pastry associated with Mardi Gras.

But beyond the parades and parties, Mardi Gras is a time when the community comes together. It’s a celebration of the city’s culture and spirit, a testament to New Orleans’ resilience and joie de vivre. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, Mardi Gras in New Orleans is an unforgettable experience.

As the birthplace of jazz, there are plenty of venues throughout the city where you can enjoy live performances…

Live jazz in New Orleans is an immersive, soul-stirring experience. It’s more than just music; it’s a deep-rooted part of the city’s culture and history, a symbol of resilience and unity.

The city is often referred to as the birthplace of jazz, and this rich heritage is evident in the vibrant live music scene. From the bustling clubs on Frenchmen Street to the legendary Preservation Hall in the French Quarter, there’s no shortage of venues where you can catch a live performance.

A live jazz performance in New Orleans is a sensory feast. The air vibrates with the soulful melodies of the saxophone, the rhythmic tapping of the drums, and the resonant strumming of the double bass. The musicians pour their heart and soul into every note, their passion and energy infectious.

But what sets New Orleans jazz apart is its improvisational nature. Musicians riff off each other, their spontaneous solos a testament to their skill and creativity. It’s a dynamic, ever-evolving performance that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

The audience is an integral part of the experience. There’s a communal feeling in the air, a shared appreciation for the music. People sway, tap their feet, and lose themselves in the rhythm. It’s not uncommon for impromptu dance parties to break out, adding to the festive atmosphere.

In essence, live jazz in New Orleans is a celebration of life, a testament to the city’s indomitable spirit. It’s a chance to connect with the city’s past, enjoy the present, and look forward to the future. Whether you’re a jazz aficionado or a casual listener, it’s an experience not to be missed.

National World War II Museum

This museum offers a moving and educational experience with a vast collection of artifacts and exhibits…

The National World War II Museum in New Orleans is a deeply moving tribute to the heroism and resilience of the Greatest Generation. It’s more than just a museum; it’s a journey through one of the most pivotal periods in human history.

As you step inside, you’re transported back to the 1940s, to a world at war. The museum’s extensive collection of artifacts, personal accounts, and interactive exhibits provide a comprehensive overview of the Second World War, from its origins to its aftermath.

The museum is divided into several pavilions, each focusing on a different aspect of the war. From the Home Front, which explores the impact of the war on American society, to the Road to Tokyo and Road to Berlin, which chronicle the Pacific and European theaters of war respectively, there’s a wealth of information to discover.

One of the highlights of the museum is the immersive 4D cinematic experience, “Beyond All Boundaries,” narrated by Tom Hanks. This gripping film uses state-of-the-art technology to bring the realities of war to life, providing a visceral understanding of what it was like to be on the front lines.

The museum also houses an impressive collection of wartime aircraft, suspended from the ceiling as if in mid-flight. Seeing these iconic planes up close is a powerful reminder of the technological advancements of the era.

But perhaps the most poignant part of the museum is the personal stories. Through letters, photographs, and oral histories, you get a glimpse into the lives of the men and women who lived through this tumultuous time. Their stories of courage, sacrifice, and resilience are a testament to the human spirit.

In essence, the National World War II Museum is not just a place to learn about history, but to reflect on the lessons of the past and their relevance to the present and future. It’s a must-visit for anyone interested in understanding the global impact and personal stories of World War II.

As you board the riverboat, you’re stepping into a piece of history. Many of these vessels are paddle-wheel steamboats, reminiscent of the 19th-century boats that once dominated this mighty river. The ornate details, from the polished brass to the wooden decks, transport you back to a bygone era.
