England bike tours.

A visit to England offers a glimpse at its history and traditions through ancient villages, medieval castles, prehistoric structures and leading museums. Such history is set alongside the vibrant British culture, making it one of the most diverse places in the world.

While London attracts millions of visitors each year, cyclists treasure natural diversity beyond the city. Pedal through lovely meadows, hills and lakes dotted with quaint villages.

England also boasts coastal areas with cliffs and charming seaside villages. The rolling hills and a yearlong mild climate also make England a prime cycling destination.

“This was a life-changing experience...my first bicycle tour and my first time in either country. It was, in a word, amazing. A totally unique experience. Can't wait to do my next one!”

Discover england.

One of the many reasons to visit England is that each season brings its own unique charm. Although the UK isn't known for wonderful weather , in general it doesn’t experience extremes during summer or winter. Overall, spring (late March to early June) and autumn (September to October) are the best times to visit, when there is more chance of warm and dry weather.

Tip: You can always take shelter from the rain in a cosy country pub or cafe and enjoy warm scones with jam and cream.

Spring in England

March is when you’ll start to spot the first signs of spring, and with that comes an abundance of beautiful spring flowers like d affodils and bluebells. In England, April is known for its “April showers”, but the good news is that April is no longer as chilly and the sun is on its way. In May, the average temperature takes its highest rise yet (around 14 degrees), with slightly less rain predicted too. There are two bank holidays in England alongside a half-term break for schools, meaning that family activities across the country are at a high.

Summer in England

June is a wonderful time to visit with a higher average temperature than days of rainfall - yay!  In July and August holida ys to England are at their peak, meaning travel prices are on the rise (top tip: book early for Summer). England’s beautiful coastal areas are perfect for making the most of the better weather, and Cornwall’s beaches prove popular with those traveling within the country as well as those visiting. Average daily temperatures are around 15 degrees.

Tip: This is a great time for our Classic Cornwall Cycling trip, unlike other parts of England it shouldn’t be too hot and you'll have the gentle breeze off the coast. You will need to book early though!

Autumn in England

Temperatures begin to fall again, but the English countryside transforms into a photographer’s dream in autumn. Expect landscapes of yellow, red and orange from September to Octoberas entire forests change the colours of their leaves. For a quintessential British experience, visit a country pub on a chilly day. Seek out a traditional pub with an open fireplace and get cosy by the fire as you enjoy a pint of local ale and a hearty meal.  Average temperatures in September are around 17 degrees, and 13 degrees in October.

Tip: A great time to enjoy the Cotswolds which passes through charming English countryside, enchanting villages and traditional country pubs.

Best Time to Visit England?

Wool - The Cotswolds were mainly built on the wool trade, and you can still see many examples of mills along the way. Many of the impressive local buildings were constructed with money from the wool trade. The local sheep are called the 'Cotswold Lions' and have been brought back from the brink of extinction.

Outstanding Beauty - The Cotswolds is the largest Area of Outstanding Beauty in England and the second-largest protected area after the Lake District. The Cotswolds are r ural England at its most stunning; the towns and villages with their warm honey limestone facades add charm and beauty to the natural wonder surrounding them.

Unique Local Customs - There are a lot of fascinating local customs, which you can participate in should you be visiting the area at that time of year. There is an annual cheese rolling at Coopers Hill, Birdlip, where contestants roll wheels of Double Gloucester cheese down a hill. There is also a football game in Bourton on Water where the goalposts are on either side of a river! These are only the tip of the iceberg too.

Limestone - The Limestone is what gives the Cotswolds villages and churches their honey-colored glow. The drystone walls built in the Cotswolds are everywhere, and you will pass alongside many on your travels. If you laid them end to end, they would stretch further than the Great Wall of China .

Essential Facts about the Cotswolds!

How Long? When? Emperor Hadrian constructed the 73-mile long wall was built in 117AD by Emperor Hadrian to separate the Roman Empire from those northern Barbarians. The wall was around 15 feet high and 10 feet wide in its glory.

Who built it? It took around 15,000 men over six years to build the wall. There were three main Roman garrisons stationed in England and Wales, and all of these men were put to work building the wall. Hadrian himself had a keen interest in architecture and is thought to have designed it. At Chesters, you can see the centurions' names who built the wall, carved into stone tablets.

How much of the wall still exists? Only around 10% of the original wall remains. While much of the land is still shaped to accommodate the wall, the stone was re-purposed or buried after the wall was abandoned. Many local buildings are said to be built from the stone from Hadrian's Wall.

Is this the border between Scotland and England? No, it never was. It marked the border of the Roman Empire before they headed further north and created the Antonine Wall before retreating to the more secure Hadrian's Wall. Most of Northumberland, England's largest county, is north of the wall, so the wall does not indicate the border.

My clients said that Wilderness Ireland Bike Tours was amazing. There was a small snafu in that TourRadar asked for bike jacket and jersey size so my clients thought they would get those for the tour but that was not something Wilderness Ireland provided. Otherwise, they absolutely loved it. Kathi

Cycling is a great way to explore Norfolk & Suffolk, and when you add a beautiful rolling landscape and a network of quiet country lanes you the have the perfect place to get those pedals turning!

For the last 21 years our families have been cycling the byways, tracks and lanes of Norfolk & Suffolk, in the process we’ve discovered numerous ruined castles, deserted beaches, wonderful village inns, amazing children’s attractions and a wide collection of fascinating places to explore. And because we don’t have any serious hills in this lovely part of England everyone can cycle our routes – even if you’ve not been on a bike for years!

Using our own experiences we’ve developed a unique range of cycling tours that explore the very best bits of Norfolk and Suffolk. All our routes follow quiet country lanes to search out and discover a wealth of interesting places each day – you can also choose between different route options and while you travel ‘light’ on one of our modern touring bikes all your luggage is transported to your evening destination – usually a comfortable country hotel or a high quality bed and breakfast.

So whether you want a 2 day Family Adventure or a 6 day Coastal Exploration we’re sure we have something to suit – and don’t forget we’ve cycled all these routes ourselves so just give us a call if you want to discuss options or talk about any aspect of our tours.

Hoping to see you soon,

Martin, Phil, Mick and the UK Cycle Holiday Team

If you want to check availability, options, costs or have any other questions about our cycling breaks then please just give me a call or send me a note and I'll get back to you asap.

“ The perfect balance between cycling and family attractions, we didn't have to cycle more than 1 hour before the Zoo, Steam Train or Dinosaur Park came into view... well thought out and great fun for kids ”

Wendy, Fersfield

“ The route plan was spot-on, we got to Southwold on lovely quiet country lanes and had all afternoon to explore the town... a downhill ride and a ferry crossing by rowing boat was a great way to arive at our hotel! ”

Mark, Cumbria

“ first time on a cycle for years...we really enjoyed the holiday and would definately recommend it to others, we will be back next year ”

Sue, Sussex

“ I tested your Coastal Explorer Tour with a couple of friends and can honestly say it’s a brilliant way to discover North Norfolk. Your suggested route took us through some perfect cycling countryside offering loads of interesting places to visit ”

John, London

“ At the end of fantastic days cycling we stayed at a lovely country hotel, the food was superb and the room very comfortable…it's obvious you've developed the perfect recipe for fun and relaxing cycling holidays ”

Pete, Milton Keynes

“ Your route was perfect for the kids, not too far to reach the attractions but enough countryside to make it feel like a little adventure…they both enjoyed all the fresh air and want to come back in the Spring ”

Netti, London

“ Thanks for arranging a great cycle tour, all of our group had a brilliant time even though 3 of us had never been on a bike for over 5 years….the scenery was spectacular, the bikes comfortable and the pubs brilliant! ”

Liz, Cockermouth

“ Last year we did the Coast to Coast ride but this time we wanted to do something a bit more relaxing. So a trip around East Anglian Castles was just perfect...very well done for putting together our route at such short notice ”

Nick, Winchester

“ Last year we got stuck at the airport for hours so as a family we decided to reduce the hassle and holiday nearer home.... the kids also wanted a 'green' holiday so your Safari Tour was exactly what we needed. ”

Amanda, Horsham

“ After doing very little exercise for 10 years I wasn't sure if I would enjoy cycling again however your bikes are so easy to ride and comfortable I really enjoyed myself..... on the third day I did 30 miles and even thought about doing more! ”

Ashley, Southwold - Suffolk Secrets Tour

“ Undoubtedly Norfolk is at it's best when explored by bike, it just gives you time to stop at all the places you miss when in the car. Our only regret was that we hadn't arranged a longer tour…can we come back next month ! ”

Geoff, Great Dunmow

“ I've cycled many parts of the UK but it was the first cycling holiday for my wife. Although she was a little nervous at first your advice and support allowed us to have a really excellent long weekend in a beautiful part of Suffolk…. Many Thanks ”

Paul, Leicestershire

Nick, Winchester - Bespoke tour for some special friends

“ Just a note to say thanks to Phil and Martin for arranging our cycle trip at such short notice. Everything was taken care of and despite two days of wet weather we had a wonderful week – the hotels were excellent:- good food, comfortable and friendly ”

Rodney, York

“ Many thanks for arranging our weekend cycling tour, both the Hotel and B & B were top class and your route notes took us to places well off the beaten track. Climbing up a working windmill and the seal trip are both to be recommended ”

Lake district.

Cyclist on the Hardknott Pass, Lake District

Beautiful but brutal, stunning but savage. Just an example of how many cyclists feel about riding in the Lake District.

The area is spoken about in cycling circles all over Europe thanks mainly to the famous Fred Whitton Challenge annual sportive that takes in some iconic killer climbs. At 180 kilometres in length with a cumulative elevation of around 3,500 metres it is a test for anyone and includes the well-known passes of Kirkstone, Hardknott, Honister and Wrynose plus many more challenging ascents.

Set around the highest mountain in England, Scafell Pike, and skirting the well-known waters of Coniston, Windermere and Ullswater the route showcases the magnificence of the Lake District National Park which covers over 850 square miles of breathtaking countryside.

As a major tourist destination in its own right this UNESCO World heritage area has over 3,500 places to stay, is well known for its lakes, forests and fells and for the Cumberland sausage. It also has more microbreweries than any other county in England.

Of course you don’t have to ride the full Fred Whitton course if you don’t want to but at least you can try one or two of the passes whilst you’re there to get the feel. But beware if you choose to ride Hardknott as the gradient ramps up to around 30% in parts!

Yorkshire Dales

Cycling around Malham Tarn

The Yorkshire Dales is home to some of the best road cycling in the UK. It has proudly hosted both the Tour de France and the UCI World Championships in recent years. Partly as a result of this, it has risen to prominence as a must-visit cycling destination in the UK. When you stand back and admire the stunning, wild countryside complete with its ferocious gradients and rapid descents, it’s not hard to see the attraction.

It’s easy to lose yourself as you meander along remote country lanes catching glimpses of Roman remains, craggy cliffs and villages that appear to have got stuck in time.

It can be bleak, cold, wet and miserable at times and the roads can be grippy. But if you want to test your fitness and mental resolve, a cycling camp in Yorkshire should be part of your annual training schedule.

Try the famous passes of the Buttertubs and Kidstones or the long winding ascent of Greets Moss. Once you’ve tried Yorkshire’s cycle routes you will be back for more!

Peak District

Peak District cycling route Winnts Pass

The Peak District spans 550 square miles and is one of the most visited country parks in the UK. Yet it can also be a perfect hideaway for a UK cycling holiday that lets you get away from it all while sampling some of Derbyshire’s best cycle routes. Ancient stone villages, connected by hundreds of miles of stone walls, lie beside stately homes, caves and huge reservoirs.

The northern Dark Peak is characterised by bleak and exposed moorland and rocky outcrops whilst to the south, the White Peak consists of limestone dales. There are no mountains but the area is like a giant roller coaster, forcing you up short, sharp inclines and then rapid, twisting descents.

The most famous climb in the area is Winnats Pass, just outside the town of Castleton. It’s a fearsome one mile ascent that cuts its way through two huge steep-sided grass banks, with a gradient that touches 20% in parts. Struggle to the top and then descend the iconic Mam Tor down to the village of Edale.

Surrey Hills

Views back across the valley, halfway up Box Hill by bike

The 2012 London Olympics road race put the Surrey Hills, and in particular Box Hill, firmly on the world cycling map. The race looped around the county before returning back to the capital for its sprint finish.

However the cycling routes of Surrey have been a favoured location for amateur cyclists for many decades. The area is renowned for its steep hills and sharp descents, all set in an area designated as one of outstanding natural beauty. You can ride along quiet country lanes, through forests and visit picture-postcard villages as you navigate through some of the finest real estate in the country.

Whilst Box Hill is the most well-known of the climbs, with its famous Zig Zag road, it is by no means the hardest of the climbs in the area particularly when set against the likes of White Down Lane, Leith Hill and Barhatch Lane. If you fancy reccing the RideLondon route Surrey is a great choice for a UK cycling weekend – just make sure you bring your climbing legs!

Brighton pier

Brighton has for many years been a popular stomping ground for cyclists, and has plenty to offer on top of the annual London to Brighton charity ride. It’s also a wonderful seaside resort, complete with pier and Georgian seafront terraces. If you’re looking for a road cycling holiday in the UK then Brighton is a good place to base yourself.

With easy access to the eastern fringes of the South Downs, and the rolling hills of the High Weald, you can quickly be out of town and cycling on some of the quietest road routes in the UK. But if you prefer somewhere flatter then there’s plenty to explore in Brighton itself or make you way out along the coastline and explore the historic and picturesque villages on route.

For the avid climbers out there you can test yourself on the well-known ascents of the nearby Ditchling Beacon and Devils Dyke. At the summit of the latter you can see for miles and are rewarded with tremendous views across the South Downs.

South Downs

The top of the Beacon Hill climb, South Downs, UK

We love the South Downs’ gorgeous English countryside, quiet country roads and quaint villages. For us, these things make the South Downs National Park countryside around Winchester one of the best places to cycle in the UK.

The terrain is a mixture of gentle rolling roads with some aggressive and sharp climbs that can appear totally unannounced, as you navigate your way around the twisting lanes. Whether you’re on a flat stretch or climbing in the smallest gear, the one thing that you are guaranteed for certain is the ability to enjoy the remarkable panorama of the English countryside.

From splendid cathedrals to ancient market towns to the quintessential English pub and old tea shops, you will definitely feel at home in this part of the world as you pedal along on some of the best road bike routes in the UK.

Isle of Wight

Golden sands with bicycle in front of railings at Ventnor esplanada

It’s perhaps not that well known, but the Isle of Wight has been branded as the ‘cycle island’ boasting 200 miles of cycling routes, an annual festival and a sportive that circumnavigates the entire island.

Lying just off the south coast of England, just an 8 minute hovercraft journey from the mainland, this beautiful and picturesque island makes the perfect place for cycling holidays in the UK. The island is a popular place for holiday makers, so there’s lots to do for those not on a bike – from the attractive Victorian seaside towns, to historical monuments such as Osborne House and spectacular coastal walking trails.

If you don’t fancy the lap of the island, you can make use of some easy cycle routes along the myriad of traffic free cycle paths. Perhaps followed by an afternoon on the beach and a few hours exploring the iconic Needles cliffs and the harbour at Cowes.

View down to a classic Cornish beach

Cycling in Cornwall is generally known for two things. Amongst those taking on Land’s End to John O’Groats, Cornwall is feared as a rollercoaster start to the ride – the gruelling first couple of leg-sapping short sharp hills on steep-sided lanes.

Amongst those looking for family cycling holidays in the UK, Cornwall is synonymous with the Camel Trail. This traffic-free route runs 18km along the River Camel between Padstow and Bodmin. There’s then an additional, harder 9km to Blisland on Bodmin Moor. There are lots of place to hire bikes and places to stop, so the 18km stretch is particularly great for kids.

However, there are a lot of other great cycling routes in Cornwall too.

Those in Cornwall on holiday with the family, there are the Mineral Tramways Trails and, around St Austell, the Clay Trails.

Road and gravel cyclists should check out the Cornish Way, a 288km route along the length of Cornwall. 47 kilometres are off-road, but the remainder is on-road, designed to avoid major roads and take in as many historic towns, fishing villages, moor and mining landscapes as possible. There are six individual trails that make up the Cornish Way, helping you to break up the route should you wish.

You can ride the Cornish Way in either direction. The east to west route gives the sense of achievement of arriving at Land’s End. There are also various different route options that make up the 288km route (around Bude you can go along the very hilly coastline and just before Bodmin, you can detour north to Padstow instead of South to St Austell).

2. Best cycling holidays (and routes) in Scotland

Scottish highlands.

Applecross Pass viewpoint, top of Bealach na Ba, NC500 cycle route Scotland

The North Coast 500 brings together some of the most beautiful coastal terrain in the northern highlands. It’s a true test of fitness and endurance for any cyclist.

Choose when you want to complete the route and in how many days.

Soak up the wilderness as you ride along many single track roads and trails, through seaboard villages and rugged countryside.

The North Coast route is a circular ride, starting and finishing in the village of Tornapress. The route includes the fearsome 9 kilometre ascent of Bealach na Ba, described by some as the best cycling climb in Great Britain. It feels a bit like a typical Alpine mountain pass, with several hairpins and 20% gradients. It also offers stunning views over the nearby Isle of Skye.

Undoubtedly one of the best places to cycle in the UK, and ideal for a UK-based cycling holiday.

Scottish Borders

Peebles, on the Tour o the Borders Scottish cycling route

Big, wide open spaces where you can see for miles. Heather covered hills and acre upon acre of woodland, lochs and rivers.

This is Scottish border country and the home of some of the best cycling routes in Scotland.

The area’s pièce de résistance is the famous Talla Wall climb. Leaving the village of Tweedsmuir with the reservoir on your right you will find this testing little ascent. It’s only 1.8 kilometres in length but packs a big punch – an average gradient of 8.3% which tops out in places at 24.9%.

The Tour O’ the Borders is the local sportive that’s staged each September. It starts and finishes in the town of Peebles and includes the Talla Climb. Your next weekend cycling break in the UK sorted?!

3. Best cycling holidays (and routes) in Wales

Llanberis Pass in the Snowdonia National Park, an exceptional cycling route

In the north west corner of Wales lies a dramatic mix of Celtic culture, rugged mountain scenery and coastal vistas. It’s all woven into 2,000 square kilometres of delightfully varied landscape.

The centrepiece of the park is Mount Snowdon, which rises from sea level to 1,085 metres and is the highest mountain in England and Wales. It can’t be crested on a road bike but there are plenty of sensational road cycling routes in Wales, including a loop that circles the base of the mountain.

Starting and finishing in the old mining town of Llanberis, the route takes you to the coastal town of Caernarfon, where you can detour to see the famous castle. Then it’s on to the Llanberis Pass, as you ride around the famous Snowdon horseshoe.

Brecon Beacons

Cycling route through the Brecon Beacons Wales

The Brecon Beacon National Park is a protected area of stunning wild moorland which runs from the Black Mountain in the west, through the Beacons and the Usk valley, to the Black Mountains in the east.

Comprising bare, grassy moorland with an abundance of reservoirs, caves and waterfalls you will likely see more mountain sheep and ponies than fellow travellers in this remote part of south Wales.

The infamous Dragon Ride is one of the toughest sportives held in the UK, and is held in the area. The Dragon Devil route is challenging to say the least with 5,000 metres of climbing over 300 kilometres including the fearsome ascents of the Devils Staircase and Elbow. So if you like your road cycling routes to be challenging you know what to earmark for your next UK cycling weekend with your mates!

4. Best cycling holidays (and routes) in Ireland

Giants causeway.

Giants Causeway Ireland

In the north east of Northern Ireland lies the Giant’s Causeway and the Antrim coastline. It’s world famous and a holiday destination in its own right. Why not bring your bike and make it a cycling holiday?!

Okay, you’ll need to be prepared for the fact it rains a fair bit and sometimes the wind howls in off the Atlantic Ocean, but you would be hard pressed to find a more beautiful and testing area to ride your bike.

If the weather is fine it’s even better as the views of the sea from the rugged coastline of high cliffs are simply spectacular. The tough and energy sapping Torr Head Road, with its numerous hills and sharp descents coming one after the other is like riding a giant roller coaster.

Take a look at the Giants Causeway Sportive and its ‘Giant Killer’ route of 187 kilometres which is one of the best cycling routes in Ireland (like the Dragon Ride, we included it in our best sportives write up, here ).

Wild Atlantic Way

View across the coast of Ireland and the Wild Atlantic Way cycle route

For those wanting a really big test, and the opportunity to try one of the world’s best cycling routes, the 2,500 kilometre Wild Atlantic Way lies in wait.

This route offers a big endurance test, passing through seven of Ireland’s westernmost counties.

With the fearsome and choppy Atlantic Ocean as your constant companion as you traverse the western coastline, the route takes you the length of the island passing through famous landmarks, heritage sites, traditional villages and rolling countryside.

There are a number of organised events which take in all or part of the route, but whichever you choose you are largely on your own. You’ll need to be self-sufficient as well as fit.

Wicklow Mountains

Mist covered hills of the Wicklow Mountains, Ireland

Just 30 minutes from Dublin, Ireland’s Wicklow Mountains are a haven for cyclists.

They’re home to the tough Wicklow 200 sportive, but are also great for less avid cyclists who just want to explore Ireland’s largest national park.

If you’re with non-cyclists, there is plenty for them to keep them occupied (Dublin, the ancient monastic city of Glendalough…) while you take on the region’s tangled network of minor roads.

If you love to climb, don’t miss the Shay Elliott climb, named after Ireland’s famous Seamus “Shay” Elliott.

A couple of fantastic areas you should consider that are not on your list. Lake District, home of the legendary Fred Whitton Challenge, and the North Pennines, virtually empty roads with bags of challenging and beautiful climbs, just happens to be sandwiched between two of the most popular National Parks.

I agree with you – Lake District is awesome and is in fact number one on our list! Great shout for the North Pennines – the UK has so many gems, doesn’t it?!

England Cycling Tours: the Best Self Guided Bike Holidays

Explore england on an affordable cycling holiday.

If you're a fan of active travel and want to explore England on a cycling tour, you're in the right place. Here we list our top picks for the best self guided cycling holidays in England.

On these unforgettable bike trips in England, you'll discover the beautiful rolling countryside, charming villages, authentic food and beer, and that warm, good natured hospitality that England is renowned for. Experience the Cotswolds, become immersed in the Isle of Wight, admire the coast in Cornwall or even ride the iconic Cyclist's Coast to Coast trail . The key advantage of a self guided bike tour is that you can cycle at your own pace and take the time to truly discover the hidden secrets of the country via England's back roads.

Without a doubt, these are England's best self guided cycling tours where you'll have a fantastic time.

Cornish Cycle Tour

Taking a break at Cape Cornwall

Discover the famous seaside region of Cornwall in England's south west on an incredible cycling holiday. Highlights of this bike trip include seeing shipwrecks, eating cornish pasties, hearing the history of pirates and visiting sheltered coves.

Explore Cornwall your way on this 9 day self guided Cornish Cycle tour . It's graded as moderate to challenging, due to some hilly parts, however the beautiful rivers, castles and gardens are a fitting reward to this great bike holiday.

Cotswolds By Bike Tour

Quaint little town of Guiting Power, Cotswolds | John Millen

If you're yet to experience England's gorgeous countryside, the Cotswolds by Bike tour is the right trip for you. Spend your days cycling between village pubs and old coaching inns. Along the way, you'll absorb the charming features of the landscape: churches, gardens, Roman villas, regency buildings, fords, and cottages - all cobbled together by the intriguing English history.

This is what A Worsley from Australia had to say about their trip:

"My daughter and I have just completed a self guided bike trip of the Cotswolds in England. What a fantastic experience, challenge and adventure the 8 days provided. The scenery was breathtaking and the townships we rode through were magnificent. All the accommodation was excellent with luggage always greeting us at our destination... Thoroughly recommend this adventure and thank you to UTracks for an efficient and comprehensive booking service."

The Cyclist's Coast to Coast Tour

Cycling along the Coast to Coast in England | Andrew Bain

While perhaps more famous as a walking tour, the Coast to Coast trail can also be completed on a bike as well. Also known as Wainwright's Way, the Coast to Coast route covers the breadth of England, from the Irish Sea to the North Sea. Cyclists can ride this trip in just 6 fun-filled days as they cross from Whitehaven to Tynemouth.

This is a challenging, and overly satisfying, cycling trip. There's much to see, including the Cumbrian Lakes and Fells, the bleak Pennines, beautiful Dales and many warm and inviting inns to welcome you at the end of each enjoyable day.

As a fun fact, this route is nicknamed the C2C, which stands for Sea to Sea rather than the often-thought Coast to Coast! This is because riding the Coast to Coast follows a slightly different trail to the walking version .

Isle of Wight Cycle Tour

Stunning Freshwater Bay

This is a lovely short cycling tour that fully explores the Isle of Wight in just 5 days. Due to the island's largely flat terrain, this ride is graded as introductory to moderate, and allows for plenty of free time to explore as you wish.

The route starts in Ryde and circumnavigates all of the glorious coastal views of the Isle of White. Discover the estuary around Newport and the old town of Yarmouth, marvel at Queen Victoria's Osborne House and take the time to soak in the island lifestyle, half of which has been designated an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

When you imagine “picture-postcard” English countryside, it’s likely an image of the Cotswolds – England’s largest “Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty” – that comes to mind. Now picture yourself there – riding a bicycle! – on bucolic country roads with polite English drivers and beautiful views around every corner. It’s hard to believe that this enchanting, richly rural, region is so close to the “big city” hustle and bustle of London. Beautiful villages and towns of honey-colored stone dot the landscape of “wolds” (hills) and “cots” (stone-fenced sheep pens). In addition to iconic locations such as Oxford, Shakespeare’s Stratford upon Avon, and Bath, you’ll discover outstanding gardens, medieval churches and castles, country homes, lovely hotels, and some of the best (as well as oldest) pubs in the world. Truly, this is the “real England” in all its glory!

PEDAL HAPPY: Most of the riding on this tour is on typical English countryside roads which are well-paved but relatively narrow, as well as some ‘bridleway’ / canal routes limited to cyclists and pedestrians. About 12% of the roads are hard-packed but unpaved and there may be some short sections of cobblestones.

RENTAL BIKES: Models will be different for the bike-types (road and e-bike) shown at the bottom of the web page. Call or request our Guest Information Packet for more specifics.

COMBINING TOURS : We schedule our United Kingdom tour dates to make longer adventures possible. You can combine our England tour with Ireland or Scotland for the ultimate U.K. cycling experience!

Our final “point-to-point” ride will take us the last 40 miles into the center of Bath where we will spend the last two nights of the tour. Along the way, we will visit Malmesbury – England’s oldest borough according to the Guinness Book of World Records – and Castle Combe (voted the prettiest village in England) before descending into Bath. Stay tonight and tomorrow at the centrally located The Queensberry Hotel , a combination of Georgian-traditional style with “cheeky twists of contemporary comfort.” Dinner is on your own tonight.

Cycle along canal paths and venture into history at the Roman Baths museum. Raise a toast to a great week at our celebratory dinner!

– Breakfast – Dinner

+1,566 ft / -1,549 ft

"Parting is such sweet sorrow." -Shakespeare. Enjoy breakfast in Bath before your departure.

“Good night, good night! Parting is such sweet sorrow.” -William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet .

A fitting quote for the circumstances, we think. Our Cotswolds adventure finishes after breakfast on the morning of Day 7. If you are leaving Bath today, we will transfer you to the Bath Spa train station at 10:30am where you can catch a train to London, or one of the London airports (generally less than 2 hours away). We wish you a safe trip home or onward to your next adventure!

And at the end of each day, rest up in tried-and-tested hotels and B&B’s.

The South West is just waiting to be explored, and with Active England to guide you, we promise a tour of Devon and Cornwall that will take your breath away.

 • Bike scenic North Devon including surf beaches and the picturesque harbour of Ilfracombe.
 • Cycle parts of Devon’s famous Tarka trail and Cornwall’s famous Camel Trail with rugged landscapes and coastal views.
 • Classic British food including Rick Steins Fish and Chips and decide who makes the best cream tea, Devon or Cornwall?
 • Tavistock, Plymouth and Padstow are just some of the iconic Devon and Cornwall towns you’ll visit.

Your Itinerary

Arriving into Tiverton Parkway for 11.00am, our local guides meet you at the station before transferring to dramatic north Devon coast. After enjoying lunch in the picturesque harbour town of Ilfracombe, we don our cycling gear and bike around some of North Devon’s famous surf beaches. Lungs filled with coastal air, we continue into the ancient river-port town of Barnstaple, where we check in for the night before beginning our crossing of inland Devon.

20.2 miles – 1347ft elevation

Joining the Tarka Trail, named after Henry Williamson’s famous 1927 novel, Tarka the Otter, we cycle along the stunning Taw and Torridge estuaries via Bideford and Great Torrington. Stopping at a quirky railway-station-turned-café for lunch, we then pick up the Tarka Trail again and bike along converted railway lines to Hatherleigh. One of Devon’s smallest but liveliest towns, we check in here to The George Inn, enjoying a pint of local ale, a plate of fresh food and a well-deserved rest.

32.9 miles – 1889ft elevation

Starting north of Okehampton, we take a slight detour up to Dartmoor, where we’ll be treated to stunning views and a magical atmosphere. After lunching in the charming market town of Chagford, we cycle high onto the moors and ride all the way into the Tavistock. The only town in Devon to hold World Heritage status, we stop here for the night. There’ll be plenty of opportunity for our guides to help you trial Devon’s famous cream tea. Just remember while in Devon to put cream on the scone before jam!

39.2 miles – 3893ft elevation

Our final day in Devon takes us on Drake’s Trail , a mostly downhill ride into Plymouth, where we visit the place from which the Founding Fathers set out for America in 1620. Continuing into Tinside, we’ll have chance for a dip in the iconic waterside lido before we transfer into Cornwall. Our final stop is the picturesque estuary town of Padstow, our home for the next two nights.

19.4 miles – 859ft elevation

Travelling a few miles to the top of the famous Camel Trail, we bike down the coast toward Padstow. One of the most enticing destinations in all of Cornwall, and famous for Rick Stein’s fish and chips, we’ll take a good look around this gorgeous harbour town. In the afternoon, there’ll be opportunity to visit locations made famous by Poldark and Doc Martin, before spending our final night together in Padstow.

17.6 miles – 576ft elevation

Our tour ends after breakfast, when we help with your onward travel arrangements. Most of our guests transfer to Bodmin Parkway or Tiverton Parkway railway stations. Wherever your journey takes you next, though, our guides will be on hand to provide all the help you need.

Pre & Post Tour Travel

Pick-up location: Tiverton Parkway railway station. Our cycling holidays are designed to be completely relaxing, with the start of our tours sitting within easy reach of London, Bristol or the Midlands. This tour begins from Tiverton Parkway, a direct 2-hour train journey out of London, so that you can begin your holiday stress-free. End-of-tour location: Tiverton Parkway or Bodmin Parkway.

Where is Devon and Cornwall? Cornwall is in the far South West of England, bordered by the famous English Channel and Celtic Sea. Known for its natural beauty, rugged coastline, idyllic coastal villages, beaches and walking and cycling trails, Cornwall is an outdoor enthusiast’s ideal playground!

Devon is Cornwall’s wild neighbour, with craggy coasts to the North and South and ancient hills on Dartmoor! It has inspired authors and painters from afar and is a beautiful area in all weathers.

What is the best way to get to Devon and Cornwall? The best way out of London and into Devon and Cornwall is by train. From Paddington direct to Exeter St David’s or Tiverton Parkway in around 2 hours, or continue to Bodmin Parkway in 4 hours. The South West is also easily accessible from Bristol and the Midlands by train. If you prefer to drive, there is station parking available at all train stations.

To get a bit deeper into both counties it is easy to get a taxi from the train station.

Can I do a cycle tour as a solo traveller? All our trips are open for single travellers to join, these trips are a great way to meet social, like-minded people, active and looking for a great holiday. Over 30% of our guests travel alone. Solo guests have the option to have a room on their own or share with another guest.

Are the roads safe to cycle on in Devon & Cornwall? Our carefully curated routes try to stick to quiet country roads, off-road gravel paths or dedicated cycle trails.

How hilly is Devon & Cornwall? There are hills, but with hills come great views and it means you feel like you’ve earned your fish & chips, cream tea or Cornish pasty!

You can also choose an electric bike if you’d prefer to have a boost!

What to pack for a cycling holiday? A sense of adventure! We’ll provide bicycles and helmets but you are welcome to bring your own saddle and pedals which we’ll fit to our bikes for you.

Which cycling holiday should I choose? Guided or self-guided…

Our guides are the beating heart of our tours and can make all the difference to the enjoyment of your holiday – so we make sure to choose them VERY carefully! They are driven, knowledgeable, know how to have A LOT of fun and importantly will do their best to make your trip magical and memorable.

With exceptionally well-planned routes, our self-guided tours are designed to suit the independent traveller or groups of travellers; those who wish to explore at their own pace and speed. With Ride With GPS and maps, we detail all of the points of interests, lunch stops, cafes – and of course pubs! Cycle at your leisure, safe in the knowledge that a support team and emergency support vehicle is always on standby.

The choice is yours, but choosing Devon & Cornwall is a great start!

How fit and active do I need to be to come on a cycling tour? Our trips have different length route options for those wishing to travel further or faster, and for those looking for a more leisurely ride. Daily route options vary from 30-50 miles on average. You can always upgrade to an e-bike if you prefer!

What’s the weather like in Devon & Cornwall? Changeable! Devon & Cornwall has a much more tropical climate than the rest of England so it is often warmer and wetter – it’s not uncommon to have sunshine and showers in the same day, or even the same hour! It’s generally very pleasant and settled during the summer.

Carbon Footprint

What’s the Number? Nearly everything has a carbon footprint. Together with ecollective, we’ve measured the carbon impact of not only every tour we operate but our entire business. We’ve taken into account greenhouse gas emissions across the business including office, travel, website, vehicles, accommodation, activities, food, suppliers…

What does the number mean? We’re going to improve this by measuring and reducing our footprint each year. That means working with our suppliers to make changes that have a more positive impact on us and the planet. What does this look like in reality?

 • Redesign trips to reduce our carbon impact
 • Working closely with all our suppliers across England to join us on our decarbonisation journey
 • Switching up our vehicle fleet to electric
 • Investing in projects that permanently remove carbon from the atmosphere for any emissions that remain.

We’ve got a long way to go but we’re on our way to net-zero

We’re committed to reducing our impact on the planet and working towards a sustainable future. We’ve taken ownership of our carbon footprint and are on a mission to reduce our emissions year on year.

C elebrating 14 Years of Land's End to John O'Groats tours in 2024!

What our customers say:

Only one word to describe the tour, leaders and organisation…FABULOUS! Hamish and Niv were very thoughtful regarding the group’s needs and nothing was too much trouble. Thanks to all – would book again with you and hope to in the future.

Very well organised and all of the information provided in advance. I had questions that were answered really quickly. This was my 3rd trip with Peak Tours.

Great tour, well organised. Our guides Niv and Hamish were first class.

Loved the days through the hills in Bavaria.

The route was excellent. Really enjoyed the scenery, especially Dartmoor, The lakes and Cairngorms. Lots of quiet country lanes, mostly traffic free. The size of the group was just right and enabled smaller groups to be formed, so people could ride at their own pace.

All of our Guided Cycling Holidays include accommodation, breakfasts, lunches, route notes and tour information, certificate and full tour support which includes at least one experienced guide who will act as bike mechanic, tour guide and will provide luggage transfers, brew stops and help to organise evening meals etc. Generally most tours have three guides with two back up vans and a guide who cycles with the group. Most groups are made up of singles and couples or twins (two friends together). The minimum number is eight and the maximum 25.

With the Self Led Cycling Holidays we provide detailed route notes, maps, accommodation, luggage transfers, tour information pack plus bikes and all necessary equipment. You aren’t part of a group so can go at your own pace and you choose exactly which date you would like to travel.

Short Tours

With the Guided Cycling Holidays , starting with our shorter tours, we have the traditional Coast to Coast route from Workington to Tynemouth which goes from the Irish sea to the North sea from one side of England to the other. There are many “sea to sea” routes available and we also provide the stunning Way of the Roses tour from Morecambe to Bridlington through the Yorkshire Dales as well as the Hadrians Cycleway tour taking in the best of the Solway Coast and Cumbria . All three routes have their own charms and level of difficulty and traverse the Pennines or Northumberland which passes through some cracking scenery.

One Week Tours

New for 2018 were the introduction of two hugely popular 7 day tours. The Classic Cols tour and A Week in Provence . The Classic Cols tour takes in some of the most spectacular climbs that the French Alps have to offer. The Telegraphe, Madeleine, Galibier and Alpe d’Huez to name but a few. The mileages short and the climbs and descents long, this is equally a spectacular introduction into alpine riding or a chance for seasoned climbers to have a full supported play on the slopes of some of the most (in)famous climbs in the cycling world.

A Week in Provence is designed to take in many of Provence’s highlights whilst also allowing time for relaxation and exploration if desired. We stay in each location for two nights, with a loop ride planned on the second day which you can always opt out of if you choose to relax in the sunshine or explore instead! Mt Ventoux looms large on the agenda for the final day and anyone who wishes to attempt the climb will be fully supported as always by our guides and the magic brew van.

Longer Tours

If you want a bit of a longer challenge then our Mizen Head to Malin Head cycling holiday takes you from the most southerly point in Ireland at Mizen Head to the most northerly point in Ireland at Malin Head travelling along the stunning west coast of Ireland from south to north in ten days of rugged, magical touring along the best cycle routes this amazingly friendly country has to offer.

Our iconic Land’s End to John O’Groats or LEJOG tour can be taken over 14 days which is a challenge in itself but for those who would like a tougher challenge we also offer a 10 day Land’s End to John O’Groats tour which is not for the faint-hearted. This classic tour is one we are extremely proud of and our fantastic route through the best of the British countryside and our customer testimonials speak for themselves.

Our epic Dover to Durness cycling holiday provides a refreshingly different perspective to the UK than on our LEJOG tour as you cycle from the south east of England to the north west of Scotland in some of the UK’s most dramatic scenery. The Dover to Durness tour is similar in length to the LEJOG tour but a bit harder as there are more hills along the way. The reward for the extra effort on this adventure is simply some of the best cycling in the whole country, as we explore The Kentish Downs, Cambridgeshire, Rutland, The Peak District, The Yorkshire Dales, Dumfrieshire, the Scottish islands of Arran, Mull and Skye and on up the west coast of Scotland to a beautiful last few days in cycling heaven.

The Channel to the Med tour is our ridiculously popular French end to end cycling holiday which takes you through some of that country’s most stunning scenery along quiet country lanes and through picturesque towns and villages. From bucolic ancient villages, around the lazy Loire, through volcanic landscapes, old Roman settlements, “The Giant of Provence” Mt Ventoux, and the breathtaking Gorge de Verdon. The Channel to the Med tour is stunning to say the least and, although a different kind of cycling on less steep roads than some we use in Britain, it is similar to our LEJOG tour in terms of difficulty. We also offer this tour in a 10 Day version for those looking to increase the physical challenge that little bit further!

Munich to Rome is our latest addition to the 2 week tour family and we love it! The first few days of winding through the Tyrolean mountains take us into Austria and then Switzerland before crossing into Italy and heading south taking in yet more stunning scenery, fantastic food and beautiful architecture. We then work our way slowly further south, crossing the length of Lake Garda on a ferry and heading towards our rest day in Siena, one of the most ancient and beautiful cities in the world. We continue on to finish the ride in Rome, surrounded by breathtaking buildings, fantastic food and more cultural heritage than you could shake a large Roman stick at.

If you want something a bit more relaxing then we have our Germany & Austria Cycling Holiday or Moselle to Mozart tour . Germany is very underrated but makes a superb destination for cycling with miles of traffic free cyclepaths, stunning architecture and amazing scenery. The tour starts on the west side of southern Germany and finishes on the east side of Austria in Vienna passing through the UNESCO world heritage site of the “Wachau”, the wonderfully well preserved buildings of Bernkastel-Kues and the impressive, imposing, monastery at Melk to name but a few.

Heel of Italy – 2024/25

It was a really delightful treasure box of experiences doing the End to End with Bike Adventures, from- painful, tough, challenging, moving, exhausting, exhilarating, great fun and hugely inspiring.
I have been holidaying with Bike Adventures since 2005. Through out the standards have remained high. The Danube trip was every bit as good as I have come to expect. Route and leaders were excellent and the accommodation was of a constantly high standard.
I had an absolute awesome time (I think awesome stands for Amazing, Wonderful, Energetic, Spectacular, Outstanding, Magnificent, Everlasting memories).
Thank you for making the experience so special. I cannot imagine what more could have been done to make the trip better. Well done.
…when I think of the last nine days it must rank and one of the best experiences of my life. Thanks to you and to Rob for everything…. I thought the route was perfect…
Many thanks for all your hard work in making the Rhine cycle so enjoyable. You were most supportive and helpful – and fun! We loved visiting so many countries with their different scenery, architecture and wildlife – something for everyone!
Once again, thanks for putting on a great trip. There seems to be a certain formula that Bike Adventures has that works for us and clearly many others.
Just a quick note of thanks for all your work in laying on a superb trip down the Rhine. It was a huge success; we had a great time and we’ll remember the highlights for ages to come. You were a terrific team!
The trip itself was fantastic and the varied weather we experienced only added to the overall feeling of achievement at the end.
I have been going on Bike Adventures holidays for many years and they get better and better. The routes are terrific, very well researched and full of interest, and the team that runs the company are highly competent and very customer-orientated.

Anticipation builds for 2024 Tour of Britain Women with unveiling of stage three route in Warrington

The route for stage three of the inaugural tour of britain women has today been unveiled as warrington prepares to host the world’s best riders and teams on saturday 8 june..

The peloton will have amassed over 280km and 3,800m of climbing in the opening two days of racing in Wales before crossing the border to arrive in Warrington for day three.

As the flattest of the four stages, Warrington’s crowds are expected to see the first bunch sprint finish of the 2024 tour and incredible speeds as riders do battle over the 106.8km stage.

Tour of Britain Women

Stage 3: Warrington – Warrington (106.8km, 792m ascent)

The stage will start and finish in front of the iconic Golden Gates of Warrington Town Hall, with riders set to depart at 11:00.

The peloton will immediately head south, crossing the River Mersey and Great Manchester Canal, passing the stunning Walton Hall and Gardens and then on through the picturesque Cheshire West and Chester villages of Higher Whitley, Great Budworth and Wincham.

The anti-clockwise route will gradually start to ramp up from around the 25km mark, before the bunch faces the two main climbs of the day, where points in the two Queen of the Mountains (QOM) segments are up for grabs.

Riders will ascend the 5.66km-long climb from Pexhill Road to Broken Cross where the first QOM points will be up for grabs, before descending into Prestbury, which sits in sight of the Pennine foothills.

Crossing the River Bollin, the route then ramps back up to Pott Shrigley in the foothills of the Peak District where further QOM points await.

Two further kickers in Mottram St Andrew will add a further sting before the route passes through Knutsford and onto Mere for the intermediate sprint.

A short, sharp descent from Appleton Thorn will set the peloton up for a fast, flat run back into Warrington for what is expected to be a nail-biting finish, with riders expected to cross the line at around 14:18.

The Tour of Britain Women will then travel north to Greater Manchester for the race’s conclusion on Sunday 9 June.

Tour of Britain Women Stage 3

Warrington Borough Council’s Deputy Leader, Councillor Jean Flaherty, said:

“Anticipation has been building in Warrington since we announced that we would be hosting a start and finish for the Tour of Britain Women. Today is another day of excitement as we announce the route for the Warrington stage.

“Many will remember our iconic Golden Gates being the dramatic finishing point for a Tour of Britain stage in 2021. I am sure we will see crowds gather again at the Golden Gates to see the start and finish of the women’s stage, with many more lining the streets on the day to cheer on the world-class cyclists who will be in town.”

Tour of Britain Race Director, Rod Ellingworth, said:

“After two tough days of climbing in stages one and two in Wales, stage three will offer riders and fans something a little different with what we are expecting to be the first bunch sprint finish of this year’s race.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support and cooperation of our partners at Warrington Borough Council, Chester, Cheshire East and Cheshire West who have enabled us to confirm the details of this exciting stage in such a short timeframe.

“Warrington has a proven track record in hosting spectacular sporting events which always attract vibrant and passionate crowds, and we have no doubt they’ll do the same when they host the Tour of Britain Women next month.”

The 2024 Giro d'Italia is well underway after over a week of racing and is far from won despite what the GC standings might seem.

Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) has been unstoppable so far in his Giro debut and remains the overwhelming favourite to take home the maglia rosa , though he may still face competition from other podium favourites including Dani Martinez (Bora-Hansgrohe), Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers) and Ben O'Connor (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale).

The Slovenian quickly stamped his authority on the Corsa Rosa on stage 2 by winning at the summit finish in Oropa, extended his lead by winning the stage 7 individual time trial, and then won his third stage the next day at Prati di Tivo.

Dates: May 4-26

Free streams: S4C , EITB , VTM , SBS , RAI

Sprint favourites taking on the race include Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek), Caleb Ewan (Jayco-AlUla), Fabio Jakobsen (DSM-Firmenich PostNL), Tim Merlier (Soudal-QuickStep), and Kaden Groves (Alpecin-Deceuninck), while other star riders include Filippo Ganna (Ineos Grenadiers) and Julian Alaphilippe (Soudal-QuickStep).

While Pogačar has been the big winner of the Giro so far, the race has also seen triumphs from sprinters Milan and Merlier, as well as breakaway wins from Benjamin Thomas (Cofidis) and Valentin Paret-Peintre (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale), the latter winning on the Bocca della Selva summit finish of stage 10.

Stages 11 and 13 bring more chances for the sprinters to do their thing on largely flat days, while stage 12 brings a hilly challenge on the road to Fano. The GC battle is expected to kick off again at the weekend with a 31.2km time trial and a mountain stage to Livigno

Itzulia Women 2024: Route, How to Watch, and Favorites

As the three-day stage race kicks off in Spain, top contenders Demi Vollering and Marlen Reusser face off against fierce competition on a challenging mountainous route.

Gear-obsessed editors choose every product we review. We may earn commission if you buy from a link. How we test gear.

How to Watch Itzulia Women in the U.S. and Canada

How to watch itzulia women in the uk, riders to watch, iztulia women startlist, race history.

Itzulia Women is only in its third year, but already it’s attracted a star-studded field. Past winners include Demi Vollering and Marlen Reusser (SD Worx-Protime), both of whom will be racing again this year. Last year, Reusser and Vollering went 1-2, with Kasia Niewiadoma (Canyon//SRAM) in third overall.

This year, the three-day race comes at a great time: On the heels of the Vuelta Feminina, it’s a good chance for riders to add extra race days in sunny Spain. And with the Vuelta a Burgos Feminas coming up next week (May 16th through 19th), also in Spain, the race ensures that riders keep their legs sharp for a long racing block.

This year marks the most mountainous edition of the course, with nine mountain passes: one Category 1, two Category 2, and six Category 3 climbs.

Stage 1: Vitoria-Gasteiz to Elgoibar (140 km)

The first stage is also the longest—tough for racers who just finished the Vuelta Feminina just a few days ago! The 1473 meters of climbing over the 140 km includes the Olaeta pass climb, where the race organizers anticipate seeing a breakaway or solo attack go.

itzulia women 2024 route

Stage 2: Basauri to Basauri (104 km)

Stage 1 might be the longest, but the elevation gain ramps up in the final two stages: Over 104 km, the racers will climb 1547 meters.

itzulia women 2024 route

Stage 3: Donostia to Donostia (114.9 km)

The biggest climbing day of the race, Stage 3 boasts almost 1800 meters of elevation gain. The route simulates the San Sebastian Classic, a one-day men’s race in August, and finishes with a climb up the Murgil wall to Mendizorrotz, followed by a blistering descent and a final slog to the finish—make sure you’re tuned in to watch the finale, especially if there’s still a group together.

itzulia women 2024 route

Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that the race will be live-streamed in North America. Check the Itzulia Women YouTube for race highlights after each stage.

In the UK, you can catch live coverage of the 2024 Itzulia Women on Discovery+ . A standard Discovery+ subscription costs £6.99 per month or £59.99 annually and grants access to Eurosport’s cycling coverage and a wide range of other live sports.

The race will also be streamed live on Amazon with a Discovery+ subscription.

This race is very likely going to be SD Worx-Protime’s race to lose since many of the other teams are holding back some of their stronger riders and race leaders, likely to give them a break before next week’s Vuelta a Burgos Feminas. Still, nothing is guaranteed.

7th liege bastogne liege 2023 women's elite

Demi Vollering (SD Worx-Protime) - Vollering won the race in 2022 and was second to her teammate last year. She had a fantastic ride at the Vuelta Feminina earlier this week, and assuming she’s not exhausted, it’s a safe bet that she’ll be up at the front of this race.

8th setmana ciclista volta comunitat valenciana femines 2024 stage 2

Marlen Reusser (SD Worx-Protime) - Reusser won last year and has said she’s ready to go for a second win at this race. She had a rough early season due to illness and injury, but she rode well in the Vuelta Feminina and is clearly back in fighting form.

27th la fleche wallonne feminine 2024

Kasia Niewiadoma (Canyon//SRAM) - After finally taking a Classics win at La Flèche Wallonne , Niewiadoma would normally be the rider to watch in terms of women who stand a chance against the SD Worx behemoth. But she had a rough Vuelta Feminina and pulled out of the last stage, citing illness, so it’s TBD if she’ll be fully recovered by tomorrow.

4th navarra women's elite classics 2024

Shirin van Anrooij (Lidl-Trek) - Van Anrooij is still looking for a win this season despite hitting the podium several times. Unlike Vollering, Reusser, or Niewiadoma, she didn’t race the Vuelta Feminina last week, so she has a bit more recovery in her legs. Will that help or hinder?

10th la vuelta femenina 2024 ndash stage 7

Juliette LaBous (dsm–Firmenich PostNL) - Finally, LaBous has been in quite a few breakaways this season and was fourth at the Vuelta Feminina. She’s always a podium contender, but has yet to have that breakaway ride that puts her in true contention for the overall.

A few notables mentions:

 • Keep an eye on the Holmgren sisters (Lidl-Trek): Isabella Holmgren has two junior world championship titles to her name (MTB and cyclocross), and her sister Ava is just as skilled on the bike. The twins are in their first year of WorldTour level racing but have already had some impressive results, and we won’t be surprised if one of them snags a stage win or podium.
 • A glance at the roster shows no EF Education First-Cannondale team on the start line. That’s a bummer since watching Alison Jackson and Kristen Faulkner crush it at the Vuelta Feminina last week was a real treat.

Giro d'Italia 2024: How to Watch a UCI World Tour Cycling Livestream for Free

It's the first Grand Tour of the 2024 season.

cycle tours england

The battle for the maglia rosa begins this weekend, as the world's best riders take on the 107th edition of the Giro d'Italia.

The first of the three Grand Tours in 2024, this year's event sees two-time Tour de France winner Tadej Pogačar make his debut in the race for UAE Team Emirates.

The Slovenian star is marked out as favorite to win with the bookies, with strong competition set to come from last year's runner-up Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers) and Ben O'Connor (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) over the course of the 21-stage event.

Below, we'll outline the best live TV streaming services to use to watch the Giro d'Italia live wherever you are in the world.

The peloton passing through a vineyards during the 2023 Giro d'Italia.

Giro d'Italia 2024: Where and when is it?

The 2024 Giro d'Italia begins with Stage 1 in Torino on Saturday, May 4, and climaxes with a passage through Rome on Sunday, May 26.

A full schedule for this year's event can be found further down.

How to watch the Giro d'Italia 2024 online from anywhere using a VPN

If you find yourself unable to view the race locally, you may need a different way to watch -- that's where using a VPN can come in handy. A VPN is also the best way to stop your ISP from throttling your speeds by encrypting your traffic, and it's also a great idea if you're traveling and find yourself connected to a Wi-Fi network, and you want to add an extra layer of privacy for your devices and logins.

With a VPN, you're able to virtually change your location on your phone, tablet or laptop to get access to what you want to watch. If your internet provider or mobile carrier has stuck you with an IP address that incorrectly shows your location in a blackout zone, a VPN can correct that problem by giving you an IP address in your correct, non-blackout area. Most VPNs, like our Editors' Choice, ExpressVPN , make it really easy to do this.

Using a VPN to watch or stream sports is legal in any country where VPNs are legal, including the US, UK and Canada, as long as you have a legitimate subscription to the service you're streaming. You should be sure your VPN is set up correctly to prevent leaks: Even where VPNs are legal, the streaming service may terminate the account of anyone it deems to be circumventing correctly applied blackout restrictions.

Looking for other options? Be sure to check out some of the other great VPN deals taking place right now.

Quick tips for streaming Giro d'Italia 2024 using a VPN

 • With four variables at play -- your ISP, browser, video streaming provider and VPN -- your experience and success when streaming the 2024 Giro d'Italia live may vary.
 • If you don't see your desired location as a default option for ExpressVPN, try using the "search for city or country" option.
 • If you're having trouble after you've turned on your VPN and set it to the correct viewing area, there are two things you can try for a quick fix. First, log into your streaming service subscription account and make sure the address registered for the account is an address in the correct viewing area. If not, you may need to change the physical address on file with your account. Second, some smart TVs -- like Roku -- don't have VPN apps you can install directly on the device itself. Instead, you'll have to install the VPN on your router or the mobile hotspot you're using (like your phone) so that any device on its Wi-Fi network now appears in the correct viewing location.
 • All of the VPN providers we recommend have helpful instructions on their main site for quickly installing the VPN on your router. In some cases with smart TV services, after you install a cable network's sports app, you'll be asked to verify a numeric code or click a link sent to your email address on file for your smart TV. This is where having a VPN on your router will also help, since both devices will appear to be in the correct location.
 • And remember, browsers can often give away a location despite using a VPN, so be sure you're using a privacy-first browser to log into your services. We normally recommend Brave .
