The travel channel

We simply love this channel. Never boring. Always something coming up that we look forward to. Hope this channel never goes away. Should our cable provider discontinue this feed, we shall discontinue them. We stay on this channel all the time. Why would anybody not?? We love traveling, and our national parks. This new virus, however is a bummer, and may not go away for quiet some time. This may greatly curb our travel planes for this year. Stay safe everybody, we certainly do not want to loose anyone to this terrible new disease. We stay to ourselves, best we can do as not to be able to spread this to our fellow Americans. Any of you who should read my post, we hope to see you at our national parks. Our government has obtained so many wonderful places to visit. This simply grows on you for wanting more of this. For now we understand that they are closed to protect us from this deadly virus. Our rv is ready for the road whenever they open again. Jim chapman here, the loving camper.

Abusive To Viewers

Great shows but don’t count on seeing the end of some of the shows. The Dead Files gets cut off before the reveal on most episodes and then I switch over to my phone app to see the end of the show. But the app has TONS OF ADS! I literally counted the ads I had to go through…….38! 38 ads for a 43 minute show! Really? No way I will ever subscribe to this channel. I already have it in my cable package, but I want to see all the previous episodes of this show. But I think I am over it. So over it!!!!! Adding to my previous review!!! AKA “Abuse To Viewers” Well you responded with a link for help with the problem. I don’t know what the deal is there. I feel like it was just lip service! When I attempted to click on the link to submit a request, it DIDN’T DO A THING! So I couldn’t “submit a request” what a joke. Why even bother to respond to reviews if you don’t even have the correct information! Usually when there’s a genuine email address or website link, there’s a line under it or it’s blue. Not this time. But I still tried to click on it. With my finger and with a mouse. Perhaps you could be so kind as to recheck your information and try again? Maybe you should click on the link first, just to be sure. Thank You!

Developer Response ,

Hi there, the link in our original response is the correct link. Here it is again: https://gohelp.discovery.com/hc/en-us. Once you are on the site, click "Submit a Request" in the top, right-hand side of the page and submit your information and we will get back to you.

Re-authenticate Expired

I’m currently subscribed to watch Travel Channel & today as I was trying to get on the app.. it said, “The current authentication session has expired. The user must re-authenticate with a supported MVPD in order to continue.” For anyone who comes across this, just go into the 3 stacks on the left top side of the app, go to settings, where it says TV Provider sign out and sign back again. And it should let you watch whatever you were previously trying to see. I give it 5 stars since it was an easy fix and I also wanted to let others know if something like this happens.. just to follow the directions above. Closing the app won’t do anything and you’ll keep seeing the pop up message as I mentioned before. Hope that helps :)
Thank you for sharing your experience with us! A normal experience includes signing in (re-authenticating) to the app at a minimum every 14 days, though this could be longer. If you ever have any questions or need assistance please feel free to reach out to us at the link below and select 'Submit a Request' https://gohelp.discovery.com/hc/en-us

The Best Travel Shows to Stream Right Now

In “Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy,” the actor lives the dream by exploring the best of Italy’s food and wine.

Courtesy of CNN

While we wait for borders to open , these fuel-your-wanderlust shows will take you off the couch to Italy, England, Norway, France, and Peru (by magic shopping cart). Can you tell we’re excited about Michelle Obama’s fantastical new global food show, Waffles and Mochi ? It debuts next week on Netflix. Until then, explore the world from home by streaming any of these 26 travel shows and TV shows set in foreign countries.

Waffles and Mochi

Watch it : Netflix

A Sesame Street –style kids’ TV show for the budding chef, Waffles and Mochi follows the eponymous puppets—one a sweet little monster with waffles for ears, the other a sentient pink rice ball—around the world as they seek out fresh global ingredients and learn about healthy eating and cooking.

This show will appeal to adults as much as to toddlers. To start: Michelle Obama costars (this is part of the Obamas’ production deal with Netflix) as a grocery store owner who teaches Waffles and Mochi about the wide world beyond the Land of Frozen Food. Off on fabulous journeys they go—to Japan, Peru, Italy, where they have friendly encounters with famous chefs like Samin Nosrat and José Andrés, as well as special guests Rashida Jones, Queer Eye ’s Tan France, Zach Galifianakis, Sia, Common, and more (technically, Mandy Moore). Start streaming it on Netflix March 16. —Laura Dannen Redman

Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy

Watch it : CNN

Actor Stanley Tucci kept spirits afloat with his cocktail and cooking demos on Instagram during lockdown. When travel restrictions lifted in Europe last year, Tucci traveled to Italy—where he has deep roots—to film this six-episode series exploring food and culture through Italy’s people, cities, and regions: Sicily, Tuscany, Milan, Bologna, Rome, and Naples and the Amalfi Coast.

For those desperately missing Italy, Tucci is the perfect knowledgeable yet curious tour guide, introducing his friends—winemakers, chefs, and authors—who he pokes a little fun at, and taking you on tours, such as around Florence’s Renaissance-era wine windows, aka “little doors of paradise.”

If the show leaves you craving more, buy his two Italian cookbooks— The Tucci Table: Cooking with Family and Friends and The Tucci Cookbook— and preorder his memoir, Taste: My Life Through Food . The series has been renewed for season two. — Annie Fitzsimmons

Who is Lupin? He’s a gentleman thief, a master of disguise, a sort of French superhero at the heart of Maurice Leblanc’s short stories, “Arsène Lupin, Gentleman Burglar.” These early 20th-century Sherlockian tales inspire the new Netflix show, Lupin , starring Omar Sy ( The Intouchables ) as a Senegalese immigrant in today’s Paris who follows Arsène’s escapades as a road map for revenge.

In the pilot episode Sy’s Arsène struts through the Louvre disguised as a janitor, plotting a jewelry heist like a cohort of Danny Ocean. Lupin is also full of lust-worthy shots of the city: a room with a view of Sacré-Cœur; the Eiffel Tower from every angle; the Jardin du Luxembourg in the rain; a bustling café. A heist thriller is only as good as its setting, and Lupin —and Paris—deliver. —L.D.R.

Men in Kilts: A Roadtrip with Sam and Graham

Watch it : Starz

If the popular period drama Outlander didn’t already have you craving a trip to Scotland, this travel show starring Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser in Outlander ) and Graham McTavish ( Outlander’s Dougal Mackenzie) will seal the deal. Even if you’re not an Outlander devotee, this Scottish duo, who are constantly making jabs at each other and themselves, are ideal guides for this literal campervan road trip through Scotland. Their banter is on point (you can tell they’re good pals IRL), and they transport viewers into the heart and soul of the country without taking themselves too seriously.

Each episode focuses on a different aspect of Scottish culture and history. For the food and drink episode, Heughan and McTavish visit one of Scotland’s oldest whisky distilleries and introduce viewers to Scottish seafood. For the sports episode, they try their hand at archaic Highland Games (aka throwing a massive hammer) and playing golf on Scotland’s most hallowed turf. And for the song and dance episode, viewers learn more about bagpipes and traditional Scottish dancing—Heughan and McTavish are game guinea pigs while also offering insights and knowledge into the theme at hand.

I’m not always big on traditional “travel shows,” but I absolutely love this one and am ready to book my first trip to Scotland ASAP after watching. — Michelle Baran

Watch it : Apple TV

West London’s Richmond upon Thames, with its distinctly British cobblestone shopping alleys, parks, and lively pubs, is the backdrop to the story of very American Ted Lasso, played by Jason Sudeikis.

Lasso is an American football coach hired to reboot a Premier League British football team, AFC Richmond. An eternal optimist, Ted is someone you wish you knew—warm and funny, with leadership skills that win over nearly everyone he meets in this fish-out-of-water story.

The Apple TV show isn’t really about sports, though there are plenty of soaring, heart-pumping soccer—football!—scenes. There are love triangles and mishaps, a delightful cast of characters, and the realization that you can do the impossible if you just “Believe,” Ted’s motto. The show has already been renewed for two more seasons. —A.F.

The head of government rides her bike to work: two clues this series isn’t set in the United States. In Copenhagen, everyone rides a bike. Maybe “Danish political drama” doesn’t sound compelling but this is, with a standout cast of well-developed characters. It follows the path of politician Birgitte Nyborg and how demands of her rise to power clash with her family life. Concerns about media news coverage are among the issues making this drama universal. The show, with an 8.5 IMDb rating, originally aired 2010–2013; Netflix plans a fourth season for 2022. — Pat Tompkins

If you’re one of the few who haven’t seen Bridgerton yet (apparently, it’s Netflix’s most successful series ever ), and you miss the U.K., it’s time to settle into Shonda Rhimes’s soapy, steamy Regency-era drama that reimagines the time as one when equality reigns: Black and white people coexist as equals, and the Queen is Black.

It centers on the romance between debutante Daphne Bridgerton and Simon Basset, reluctant Duke of Hastings. Scenic British locations include the Bridgerton family home, Ranger’s House in Greenwich, London; promenades in Bath’s green parks and Royal Crescent; and parties at Wilton House in Salisbury as the Duke’s country mansion. — A.F.

“Killing Eve” sets the codependent cop-and-killer chase in glamorous sites around Europe.

Killing Eve

Watch it : YouTube TV

When Eve, a British intelligence investigator, becomes obsessed by an assassin-for-hire, Villanelle, their cat-and-mouse chase leads the characters through Tuscany, Paris, London, and Romania. The glamorous destinations make this a bingeable spy thriller for travel lovers who crave dark humor, cliffhangers, and dreamy settings. —Ciera Velarde

Four Weddings and a Funeral

Watch it : Hulu

This 10-episode series from Mindy Kaling is nothing like the movie it takes its name from, except that there are four weddings and one funeral. London has never looked more magical as friends in their thirties fall in love, break up, and get married across rooftop parties in Trafalgar Square, conversations at the National Gallery and inside dreamy Notting Hill houses, and walks in Kew Gardens.

Like its cast, but unlike so many romantic comedies, it also showcases the diversity of the city through Indian family culture in Hounslow and the multicultural Southall Market. It’s completely addictive, and you might replay the final 10 minutes of the series (a wedding, of course!) over and over again. — A.F.

Un Village Francais/A French Village

Watch it : Amazon Prime

Over seven seasons, this series captures what German occupation of a fictional village, Villeneuve, meant for its inhabitants from 1940 to 1945. Instead of battles, we get the war’s impact on civilian life, an impact that affects everyone. It could have been a soap opera, but it’s not, thanks to complex characters and intriguing stories.

Among those in the first episode are Spanish refugees, a Jewish family, and the town doctor, all coping with the sudden upheaval of life in Occupied France. Travel to a different place and time in these 80+ episodes. — P.T.

Home for Christmas

The first Norwegian series from Netflix, Home for Christmas was filmed in Oslo and the small mining town of Røros, known for its colorful wooden buildings from the 1700s. We see the town and countryside dressed for the holidays, with snow, twinkle lights, and cider at Christmas markets aplenty.

But the festive season is just a vehicle for showcasing the complicated bonds of family. The show follows the up-and-down love life and quirky characters surrounding Johanne, a nurse in her thirties who feels pressure from her large, boisterous family to settle down. But what relationship can compete with her friendships? — A.F.

Call My Agent

Calling all francophiles. For those missing not just France but the language and people as well, this French-language Netflix show is génial . Call My Agent is a witty comedy about a Paris-based talent agency. The central cast of characters brings viewers along as they manage the many moods and demands of their high-maintenance actor clients. (They do everything from intervene when clients refuse to get intimate on a film set to help a client learn to drive for a movie role, plus attend ridiculous soirées to appease these high-strung celebs.)

As the series continues, deeper emotional themes around family, friendship, and love develop. I found myself tearing up (in a good way) by the end of the first season, something I wasn’t expecting at all at the start. The comic relief serves as a wonderful escape and there’s something oddly satisfying about seeing behind the scenes of France’s acting and filming world even if it is a fictional look. — M.B.

Indian Matchmaking

This is a reality show, with all its tropes and gimmicks, inviting us to be voyeurs of the Indian dating world. But Indian Matchmaking is also a fascinating glimpse into the culture of matchmaking and quasi-arranged marriages, for both the singles and families. It follows Mumbai-based matchmaker Sima Taparia as she tries to pair clients both in the U.S. and India; the scenes in India are most vibrant and really make the show worth a watch even if you’re skeptical about the premise.

You feel like you’re sitting right next to the characters in that Mumbai restaurant or Delhi bar as they chat with friends or go out on that first (slightly awkward) date with their match. — M.B.

Watch it : HBO Now , Hulu , YouTube TV

If your family is driving you up the wall, imagine self-quarantining with Succession ’s Roy family. This addictive dramedy centers on who will take over a global media and hospitality empire as the family patriarch faces health issues. Because this dysfunctional family is crazy rich, the series transports us to the most exclusive corners of New York City, a sprawling ranch in New Mexico, and even a castle in England. The juicy Season 2 finale takes place on a private yacht in Croatia, so pour yourself some prosecco and lose yourself in someone else’s family drama. —C.V.

My Brilliant Friend

Although this show follows two childhood friends as they grow into women in postwar Italy, the true star is Naples , with its crowded sidewalks, lively piazzas, and ancient architecture. The makers of Our Planet leave no corner of Earth untouched. This breathtaking nature docuseries allows you to swim with whales, swing from tree to tree with orangutans, and explore the Serengeti, all from your couch. The camerawork is remarkable: You’ll ask yourself “how did they even film that?!” at least four times per episode. —C.V.

Big Little Lies

Oh, what we’d give to be social distancing in one of the spacious seaside mansions on this show. The frothy mix of petty neighborhood squabbles, a mysterious death, and the sweeping shots of the Pacific Ocean makes watching Big Little Lies roughly 10 times better than watching the news. And if you’re inspired to plan a trip to Monterey after watching the show (and, of course, after virus concerns are lifted) , we’ve got you covered . —C.V.

Insider Today

Travel was one of the first industries to grind to a halt as the pandemic crisis spread around the world and all non-essential activities fell in line soon after.

Now, with most of the planet under shelter-in-place guidance, travelers find themselves in the position of plotting their next moves from quarantine. That can mean booking cheap refundable flights or hotels far into the future or, a more cautious approach, indulging in some serious armchair traveling.

Travel books are one great way to do this , but streaming is another. Some of the best travel shows are available to watch on-demand and can soothe and inspire. Our picks for the best travel programs are available on the likes of Amazon , Disney+ , Hulu , and others. Selections include a range of content, from those with current or recent seasons to ones that ended production prior to the pandemic. We included, of course, Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown; the late chef's show will forever be essential travel viewing.

In addition to straightforward travelogues, we also included shows that are also largely food-focused on their face, such as Chef's Table, as well as critically-acclaimed picks, and some of my personal favorites as a longtime travel writer, editor, and globe trotter.

Additionally, nature programs showcase the far reaches of the world, even highlighting its fragility, as a way to remind us to travel as responsibly as possible when we are able to return to the practice .

Here are the best travel TV shows to stream right now.

Anthony bourdain's parts unknown.

where to watch travel channel shows

Anthony Bourdain is the quintessential travel show host — not only adventuresome but also conscious, critical, clever, literary, and far from fawning for its own sake.

The chef and author's thoughtful take may be just what you need right now, as we all seek meaning amid the current crisis. When Bourdain died in 2018, it was among the biggest stories I covered in my capacity as a travel and food journalist — until the current pandemic. Both events will leave indelible impacts.

Bourdain's show has continually been available for streaming in the nearly two years since his death. For some of the most treasured (and famous) episodes, check out the Vietnam episode in Season eight in which Bourdain famously sat down with then-president Barack Obama over beers on plastic stools. In all, Parts Unknown has 12 seasons to stream, including the last one that aired after his death.

Planet earth.

where to watch travel channel shows

If you want to luxuriate in our planet's impossibly stunning natural beauty, you're going to want to indulge in a marathon watching of both Planet Earth (2006) and its sequel, Planet Earth II (2017).

With meditative — even hypnotic — narration by Sir David Attenborough, and jaw-dropping cinematography, the nature documentaries take viewers on a tour of earth's plants and animals by environment — think mountains, jungles, caves, deserts, grasslands, oceans — and in the sequel, cities.

When the news is too much to bear, this is what I watch for a dash of mindfulness and gratitude for our planet's beauty and bounty.

This is the nature documentary I watch when I have a bit more stomach for a serious tone. Our Planet explores human impact on the natural environment. And although those messages might be tough to take sometimes, Our Planet stunningly depicts a world of such miraculous order and beauty, we must work to protect it at all costs. The series reflects on ways to do that, and it can be a meaningful practice during quarantine in the time of crisis on another front.

The Netflix original documentary series is a collaboration between World Wildlife Federation, Netflix, and Silverback Films, and has won two Emmys. Episodes include sweeping views and climate change commentary on areas as frozen worlds, jungles, the high seas, fresh water, jungles, coastal seas, forests, and more. Oh, and yes — if you like David Attenborough, you'll love him as narrator here too.

Anthony bourdain no reservations.

where to watch travel channel shows

Yes, he deserves two slots on this list, for before there was Parts Unknown on CNN, there was Anthony Bourdain's Emmy-winning No Reservations on the Travel Channel.

It ran nine seasons between 2005 and 2012 and in this earlier series, the chef and author exhibits his signature critical eye, literary voice, zest for life and travel, and intense empathy toward other humans.

In seasons seven and eight, available for streaming now (a total of 30 episodes), Bourdain swims with bluefin tuna off the Croatian coast, takes a boozy tour of the world's only pub tram in Finland, tears through the California high desert in a classic car, ventures deep into Brazil's Amazon for a prehistoric delicacy, and leads us on many other delicious adventures.

It's the perfect balm if you're missing both travel and the brilliant Bourdain, the intoxicatingly charismatic host who had the best job in the world.

Rick steves' europe.

where to watch travel channel shows

Along with Bourdain, Rick Steves is among the most quintessential travel hosts. But unlike Bourdain, Steves lulls the viewer into a peaceful, carefree state, where he is the calm-voiced, judgment-free guide. And we are more than happy to follow along on cobblestone paths and through fragrant markets.

Since the 1970s, Steves has been leading tours to Europe, and making shows about them since the '80s. His mastery and laid back approach sets the tone for historic and cultural adventures in Rick Steves' Europe, with 10 seasons available for streaming.

Make a bowl of popcorn and set out for European festivals, ancient Rome, or historic London. Plus, Steves has some episodes devoted to sharing tips for planning, packing, and other travel skills, so you'll be ready to get going as soon as it's safe.

Amazing hotels: life beyond the lobby.

where to watch travel channel shows

If you love amazing hotels (guilty, that's why I review them here ) and you'd love to spend some quarantine time drooling over some of the world's absolute finest, and mentally bookmarking them for later, this one is for you.

In this sleek series, restaurant critic Giles Coren and chef Monica Galetti visit some of the world's most over-the-top properties to experience the way they create the ultra-luxurious, even supernatural seeming, guest experience. They also spend time getting to know employees and explore their personal lives outside work.

Episodes include looks inside Sweden's Icehotel , Canada's Fogo Island Inn , Kenya's Giraffe Manor , Singapore's Marina Bay Sands , Ecuador's Mashpi Lodge , and Morocco's Royal Mansour Marrakech . That last one I saw only after I visited the property located within Marrakech's medina. I wish I'd seen it first so I had known about the wild machinations going on literally underneath my feet in subterranean employee channels meant to keep guests fully insulated from the staff's monumental efforts.

Chef's table.

where to watch travel channel shows

There are now six seasons of this Emmy-nominated series, which goes around the world to get deep with chefs who are putting their own unique spins on highly elevated gourmet food and desserts in their corners of the globe.

Yes, the travelogue component is incredible and wanderlust worthy. But if you're skeptical of the whole food-is-art notion, prepare to be convinced — and have your mind blown by the gorgeous cinematography that presents food every bit like museum-worthy masterpieces.

Dominque Crenn of San Francisco's Atelier Crenn; Virgilio Martínez, the owner of Peru's Central restaurant; Tuscan butcher Dario Cecchini; and Southern food chef Macadam Bailey are among the featured personalities.

Ken burns: the national parks — america's best idea.

where to watch travel channel shows

Yes, I'm a little jittery these days. (You too?) But even under normal circumstances, Ken Burns' whole approach to documentary filmmaking soothes me: the voice, the panning over still photos.

This six-part, 12-hour documentary series by Burns and his longtime colleague Dayton Duncan took more than six years to film and covers all the individuals — soldiers, scientists, artist, entrepreneurs, and more — who devoted themselves to preserving precious parkland around the country.

I covered the premiere of this series over a decade ago at a party at LA's Paramount Ranch hosted by the great California travel personality Huell Howser. Howser has since died and the ranch burned in the Woolsey Fire. All of this further reminds me of the fragility of people and places, and the importance of being present in a given moment — both things I intend to keep in mind when travel resumes.

Plus, if you ever thought national parks were ho-hum domestic travel ideas compared to far-flung destinations, this documentary will have you thinking differently — if quarantine life hadn't already done that.

Searching For Soul Food

The term soul food means so much to so many people across the globe. Chef Alisa Reynolds starts the series in Mississippi to understand the connection between the slavery and the traditional dishes that are staples in American comfort food. In later episodes, Reynolds visits Jamaica, Italy , South Africa, and Peru. Along the way, she connects the dots between soul food’s African roots to other Indigenous cultures and the way customs traveled across the globe, due in part to the slave trade. Food history is a large part of the show but Reynolds also taps into the cultural, agricultural, and political significance of ingredients and dishes.

We also see Ramsey trek through the rainforest of Sumatra, capture rattlesnakes, and hunt for eels with his bare hands. It’s quite a treat to see the renowned chef as a beginner for once.

It’s always a good idea to explore our own backyard—which is exactly what host Padma Lakshmi does on her Hulu show Taste the Nation . The show's first season follows the host and author as she quite literally tastes the nation , stopping at restaurants around the United States to sample the foods of a variety of Indigenous and immigrant groups. Expect to see some familiar faces, like comedian Ali Wong and spearfisher Kimi Werner , along the way.

Never Say Never With Jeff Jenkins

Travel journalist Jeff Jenkins lives by the philosophy that “life truly happens at the end of your comfort zone.” We see this as he tests his mental and physical limits as he does sumo wrestling in Japan, swims with whale sharks in Mexico, and treks up the more-than-2,000 miles of the Adirondack Mountains. Throughout this global odyssey, Jenkins connects with locals in every destination, from immersing himself in Maori culture to catching king crabs with multi-generational fishermen—learning more about the world around him and himself each step of the way.

Planet Earth and Planet Earth II

We had to wait 10 years between the debut of Planet Earth , a groundbreaking natural history show narrated by Sir David Attenborough, and its sequel Planet Earth II , but it was worth it. The first season, which focus on a specific biome and the flora and fauna that live there in each episode, spotlights smooth coated otters in Southeast Asia, Tibetan foxes, critically endangered Ethiopian ibex, and blue whales, among so many others. Our two favorite episodes, though, come from part II. In the sixth episode, the high-def cameras turn to cities to show how leopards in Mumbai, monkeys in Jodhpur, and catfish in southern France live alongside humans. And in what may be the most heart-racing episode of nature television, the islands episode of Planet Earth II follows a lone iguana racing against time—and a horde of snakes.

Long Way Up

Believe it or not, actor Ewan McGregor has been in the travel show business for some 16 years. It all started with Long Way Round , a 2004 series that followed McGregor and his friend Charley Boorman on a motorcycle journey from London through Europe, Asia—and then after a flight to Alaska—Canada, and the U.S. all the way to New York City. The show was followed by 2007's Long Way Down, which took the duo from Scotland to South Africa, on motorcycles once again. Now, they've turned their bikes (electric this time) towards South and Central America, with the latest iteration following the duo some 13,000 miles from Ushuaia, Argentina, on the continent's southernmost tip, to L.A. As usual, hijinks, pitfalls, and stunning scenery are all on view. Neither of the earlier shows are available to stream in the U.S. currently (though you can find them on Apple TV+ in the U.K.), but Long Way Up is an Apple TV+ original and on view for all.

Somebody Feed Phil

This Netflix original follows host Phil Rosenthal, the creator of Everybody Loves Raymond , as he eats his way through cities like Bangkok , Lisbon, Mexico City , New Orleans , Buenos Aires , Cape Town, and Dublin. The hyper-positive show was called "impossibly optimistic," by former Traveler editor Paul Brady, who spoke with Rosenthal before the first season's premiere in 2018. The seventh season, takes Rosenthal from Mumbai to Kyoto to Iceland to eat even more delicious grub.  Watch now: Free with a Netflix subscription ( sign up for Netflix here )

Parts Unknown

Parts Unknown

You simply cannot have a list of the best travel shows and not feature the late Anthony Bourdain. In fact, he's on our list more than once. In Parts Unknown , the chef and travel personality circled the world many times over, in search of music, culture, humor, history, and—of course—really good food. Over 12 seasons (the last aired posthumously), Bourdain visited the indigenous Andes with Eric Ripert, the Sochi Winter Olympics, the Mississippi Delta, and, most famously, Hanoi with then-president Barack Obama. (That's season eight, episode two, if you want to jump right to it.)

Street Food Asia

Street Food

Made by the same folks behind Chef's Table (spoiler: it's also on this list), this show moves away from formal restaurant kitchens and onto the streets, for a guide to some of the world's best curbside meals and snacks . The show's first season is all about Asia, traveling to nine different countries to meet the people behind the food, like Jay Fai from Bangkok's Raan Jay Fai , a Michelin-starred street stall serving up tom yum soup, and Truoc (pictured left), who serves a variety of snail dishes in Ho Chi Minh City . The second season, which hit Netflix in July, zeroes in on Latin America, with stops at Doña Vale's in Oaxaca for memelas and Las Chicas de las Tres food stall in Buenos Aires, run by chef Pato Rodriguez.

Carmen Sandiego

Many of us got our first lesson in geography from this trench coat–wearing master thief, and today's kids can too, thanks to the Netflix reboot of this animated series. This high-flying, Robin Hood–style caper takes kids (and parents) with Sandiego as she jet sets between Rio de Janeiro , Matsumoto in Japan, Amsterdam, Mumbai, and more. There are three seasons available and plenty of educational value here for mapheads—plus pretty stellar animation. This year, an interactive choose-you-own-adventure style show, called Carmen Sandiego: To Steal or Not to Steal, came to Netflix and provides endless entertainment as Sandiego fights off the Villains International League of Evil (V.I.L.E.), with your (kid's) help. If you want even more Bourdain, Hulu has you covered with No Reservations and The Layover, two of his travel shows that preceded Parts Unknown . In No Reservations, Bourdain takes us to both familiar—Maine, Prague, the Philippines—and unfamiliar—Kurdistan, Mozambique, and deep into the Amazon—corners and kitchens of our world, introducing us to new foods, cultures, and personalities over nine seasons. The Layover takes that same premise, but shortens the time line drastically, knocking down Bourdain's time to explore to just 24 to 48 hours. Both are must-sees—it's Bourdain after all.

Chef's Table: BBQ

While you can watch some of world’s most extraordinary chefs (like Dominque Crenn ; Peruvian Virgilio Martínez , the owner of Lima's Central restaurant; and Swede Magnus Nilsson ) as they create impossibly complicated dishes in the original Chef's Table, we've become partial to its latest iteration, which is all about barbecue. The Netflix original docuseries follows pitmasters like Tootsie Tomanetz—the 85-year-old spitfire pictured above who minds the brisket and sausage at Snow's, outside of Austin—and Rodney Scott, known for his Low Country–style pulled pork and ribs. But the show doesn't stick to the American South. Travels with My Father

The first season of this Netflix original, which came out in 2017, follows British stand-up comedian Jack Whitehall and his father, Michael, across Southeast Asia, tracking the duo as they finish the gap year Jack never got to complete, just a few years late (eight, to be exact). It's everything you'd expect: a Thai full moon party and, of course, a trip to Cambodia's Angkor Wat, but the moments in between are what make the show really worth watching. Now, in the three seasons that have followed, the father-son pair have road tripped through Transylvania , visited Chernobyl , and gotten into drag with Sydney queens. Ok, so this isn't as much of a travel show as it is a “what is Jeff Goldblum curious about” show—but it doesn't mean they don't travel all over the U.S. With each episode focusing on the actor's ceaseless interest in the minutiae of one specific thing (like tattoos, or pools, or RVs, or ice cream—it really runs the gamut). Over the course of the show, Goldblum visits Hawaii , Las Vegas , NASA’s neutral buoyancy lab in Houston , and so much more. If you love Goldblum, you'll probably love this show.

Sunday RNC review: Trump will appear at the convention on Monday

After months of preparation, Milwaukee is set to host the 2024 Republican National Convention .

But now, it's in the wake of the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally Saturday in Pennsylvania, as news continues to unfold about the incident.

While the RNC officially starts Monday and runs through Thursday , but there was a lot going Sunday. The Journal Sentinel provided live coverage.

MONDAY Live updates from the Republican National Convention 2024 in Milwaukee

'Unfortunately, because of state law,' city can't limit guns near RNC, Mayor Cavalier Johnson tells CNN

Mayor Cavalier Johnson pointed a finger at the state legislature for allowing guns near the Republican National Convention.

"Unfortunately, because of state law, we are not able to enact more restrictions for individuals who may decide to carry guns," Johnson said in an interview with CNN Monday night.

Johnson said he's confident in the security protocols for the RNC this week.

Still, Johnson said, the City of Milwaukee would've liked to do more to regulate firearms around the convention. State law, however, prohibits cities from imposing gun regulations that are stricter than state law.

Firearms are banned from the "hard," credentials-only security perimeter around Fiserv Forum, but are allowed in the area just outside the perimeter — the so-called security "footprint."

Governor Tony Evers asked the Secret Service to tell the Republican National Committee to reconsider that policy .

"I don't think that's a Secret Service issue," Johnson said, when asked about Evers' request on CNN. "I think that's a State of Wisconsin issue."

Under existing plans most guns would not be banned in an area immediately outside the RNC perimeter.

Trump will appear at the convention on Monday

Former President Donald Trump will make an appearance Monday at the Republican National Convention, said RNC committee member David Bossie in an interview with WISN-TV (Channel 12).

"The welcome that he's going to get here, I think, is going to be a very emotional and overwhelming thing," Bossie told WISN.

Trump has yet to name his vice presidential pick. Asked whether a running mate would join Trump on stage Monday, Bossie said: "I don't get ahead of him, but that's — the plan is, it's imminent, for certain."

The attempted assassination has changed Trump's tone going into the convention.

Trump told the Washington Examiner he has completely rewritten his keynote speech, which he is set to deliver Thursday.

The previous draft took aim at President Joe Biden's policies. Now, Trump plans to call for national unity, according to the Washington Examiner.

Update on Gov. Doug Burgum, potential VP candidate, after tearing Achilles

Last August before the Republican presidential debate in Milwaukee, North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum ruptured his Achilles playing pickup basketball.

He was treated by the Milwaukee Bucks orthopedic surgeon.

Burgum toughed it out during the debate and eventually dropped out of the race.

On Sunday, after speaking to the California Republican delegation, Burgum was asked how his Achilles was feeling.

"It's feeling pretty good, thank you," Burgum said.

Burgum did not say if he would play anymore basketball while in Milwaukee for the convention.

Donald Trump has not named a running mate, but Burgum is on the short list for potential vice presidential candidates.

Bill Maher cancels Milwaukee show citing travel problems

Comedian and talk show host Bill Maher said on X he is canceling his show in Milwaukee.

"It's not going to happen tonight, I can tell you," Maher said in a video posted to the social media site. "First they said it's going to be impossible to get to the theater because downtown (Milwaukee) is going to be closed off for security reasons."

Maher said he wanted to "go to Milwaukee anyway and maybe things will change. I hate to cancel shows."

Maher said the plane he was trying to take broke.

"I tried to get a commercial flight out of Minneapolis ... that was not possible," Maher said. "I'm so sorry but I'm not going to make the show tonight in Milwaukee. It breaks my heart. I was really looking forward to it, we'd do anything to be there but I just can't fight this."

Maher was to perform at the Riverside Theater. The  theater's website  said his show was "postponed due to mechanical issues with the artist's plane."

Maher, host of "Real Time With Bill Maher" on HBO, was to appear as part of his "The WTF? Tour."  In an interview with the Journal Sentinel last week , Maher said he was looking forward to the Milwaukee show as an opportunity to bring people together.

In the video with Maher was a man he said was the captain of the plane "to testify because I know there are a lot of conspiracy theorists out there."

The man Maher called "Steve," who was dressed in pilot attire, validated "everything he just said," referring to Maher.

Maher concluded with a joke to fans saying "you probably couldn't have gone to the show anyway. So I guess the show is not meant to be."

Maher asked for his fans forgiveness.

"I'll see you again, Milwaukee," Maher said. "Love you."

Biden gives remarks from Oval Office: 'We cannot, we must not go down this road'

President Joe Biden gave remarks regarding the assassination attempt from the Oval Office Sunday night.

"A former president was shot. An American citizen killed, while simply exercising his freedom to support the candidate of his choosing. We cannot, we must not go down this road in America," Biden said.

Biden did not give any updates on his direction to the U.S. Secret Service to review security measures for the RNC, but noted "the Republican convention will start tomorrow."

"I have no doubt they'll criticize my record and offer their own vision for this country. I'll be traveling this week, making the case for our record and the vision, my vision for the country - our vision," Biden said. "I'll continue to speak out strongly for our democracy."

Oops: RNC is in Milwaukee, not Minneapolis

The New York Times' 'The Morning' newsletter accidentally wrote the "Republican National Convention begins tomorrow in Minneapolis," Milwaukee radio host Jeff Sherman pointed out on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

"That's Viking country," Sherman said, adding he'd buy anyone from the New York Times a beer or brat and show them around.

Trump’s motorcade arrives at the Pfister Hotel

Former President Trump’s motorcade arrived at the Pfister Hotel on Sunday evening, where many expect he will be staying for the Republican National Convention.

A crowd of spectators — some with boxes of popcorn — peered through the fence to catch a glimpse of the former president, just 24 hours after he survived an attempted assassination.

Secret Service agents lined the perimeter and eyed the surrounding rooftops as dozens of SUVs pulled up to the storied hotel.

Trump, however, could not be spotted exiting his vehicle. A tent was waiting outside the entrance, and security quickly pulled the curtains shut.

Milwaukee under severe thunderstorm watch, storms could arrive around 9 p.m.

Milwaukee County and much of southern Wisconsin are under a severe thunderstorm watch until 1 a.m.

Storms have developed in southwestern Wisconsin and will push eastward into tonight, the National Weather Service said in an update. Storms also may develop earlier in an "unsettled area" southwest of Milwaukee.

The storms are expected to peak between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. tonight, reaching Milwaukee sometime around 9 p.m., according to the NWS forecast. Damaging winds and large hail are the main concerns.

The delegate welcome party at the Summerfest grounds is scheduled to end at 10 p.m.

The NWS says more severe thunderstorms are expected tomorrow afternoon and evening, along with a heat index up to 100 degrees.

Motorcade travels toward Pfister

Trump’s motorcade exited the 794 freeway onto Milwaukee St at 6:15pm on Sunday. The motorcade headed up North Milwaukee St, towards the Pfister Hotel.

Two Hop streetcars were stuck behind temporary street closure signs, but police let them through minutes after the motorcade finished.

A group wearing RNC badges gathered on the corner to watch.

- Zoe Jaeger

Trump’s motorcade departed from the 128th Air Refueling Station at 6:04 p.m.

A group of four people watched from the sidewalk across from the refueling station along Layton Avenue. Others watched further away from Mitchell Airport Park in front of the playground.

No changes to RNC security perimeter, plan

The security perimeter and plan or the Republican National Convention will remain in place as-is, even after an assassination attempt targeting former president Donald Trump, federal and local law enforcement officials said Sunday.

Audrey Gibson-Cicchino, RNC Coordinator the U.S. Secret Service, said the “security plan will remain in place” for the event, which is set to begin Monday in downtown Milwaukee.

“We will continue to assess the security environment and adapt our security measures,” she said Sunday afternoon during a media briefing in Milwaukee.

Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson and others stressed the planning and preparation that had already gone into the existing plan.

“A national special security event is the highest designation that you can get for a security event of its size and magnitude in the United States,” Johnson said. “We have that designation, and we'll continue to work to make sure that public safety is tantamount out here this week."

Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman said he wanted to reassure RNC attendees as well as members of the community that local and federal law enforcement officials were prepared.

“We got this,” Norman said. “We got this.”

Trump has landed in Milwaukee

Donald Trump’s plane landed at Mitchell International Airport

At least 10 people watched from across Layton Avenue in Mitchell Airport Park. Many waited for over two hours.

Some filmed or photographed the plane landing on their phones.

Next to the park on Brust Avenue, onlookers in four cars waited for the former president’s arrival, some standing outside their cars and looking up at the sky. Andrew G (who declined to give his last name to a reporter). of Milwaukee, who’d been waiting near the airport for at least three hours, stood outside his car waving a large American flag.

Smoke near Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport from car fire, no impacts on airport

Reports of black smoke and emergency vehicles near the Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport were due to a car that malfunctioned and caught fire on an exit ramp near the airport, airport director of public affairs and marketing Harold Mester said.

The fire has since been put out. The incident did not happen on airport property and had no impact on the airport as former President Donald Trump's plane arrived in Milwaukee.

California GOP chair responds to Trump assassination attempt

Jessica Patterson, chairwomen of the California GOP, said many their delegates were learning about the assassination attempt after they landed in Milwaukee.

"We saw delegates, huddled together as they watched on the TVs in the lobby, watching really in disbelief,” Patterson said. “ and I think it was really important for President Trump, when he stood up and put his arm in the air, that we really knew that he was OK, and that our country was OK.“

Patterson added they are mourning the person that was killed and “ we pray for the victims that are still in critical condition"

“We also know we have work to do,” Patterson said. “And (Saturday) Really underscored how important what we’re doing is.”

Gov. Evers seeks to bar firearms from RNC soft perimeter

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers has requested that the decision to allow firearms within the soft perimeter of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee be reconsidered "immediately" following the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump , a source with knowledge of the discussion shared with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The request was made to the U.S. Secret Service, which would relay the governor's concerns to the Republican National Committee, the source said.

But the request appears likely to go nowhere. The power to ban firearms in the security "footprint" outside the credentials-only "hard" security zone seems to rest with the state, not the Secret Service, the RNC or the City of Milwaukee.

The Great Milwaukee Block Party hosts puppet-making event

Members of a UWM student puppet club and various other groups met Saturday and Sunday at Tooth + Nail Studio and Gallery to create puppets from cardboard, paper mache and paint.

The event was hosted by Milwaukee activist and artist Susan Simensky Bietila and Nora Leccese, a community organizer. Both are participating in the Great Milwaukee Block Party , which is hosting a “collection of events to connect the Milwaukee community in acts of joyful rebellion during the RNC” between July 13 and 20, according to the group’s Instagram page.

“This is part of bring people together in a positive way,” said Simensky Bietila, who has been creating activist art since the mid -1960s.

She said the group of artists are “generally people who are not supporters of Trump.” Instead of demonstrating downtown, they want to bring people from across the city together through “doing art and teaching skills.”

Many of the puppets resembled animals, including a paper maché and cardboard otter designed by Leccese that can be worn as a hat or on her arm. She said it represents clean water. Another artist created an intricate cardboard bird and another created a painted owl to wear on her head. Simensky Bietila said her own work often addresses clean water and environmental advocacy.

Leccese said she thinks elected officials “made a big mistake” in inviting the RNC to Milwaukee.

“[They] invited a bunch of people here who don’t generally like the population of this city,” she said. “We wanted to create safe places outside of downtown for people to come be in joyful resistance together.”

Leccese said they chose puppets because they tell a great story and encourage people to be involved in politics and demonstrations.

Inside a quiet Fiserv Forum, RNC staff and media prepare for busy week

The inside of Fiserv Forum was a focused and quiet atmosphere a day before the big show.

National TV networks workers lugged wagons of camera equipment into their media suites. Reporters from smaller outlets found their stations to file stories on the top floor. Volunteers received tours to learn the building's layout and where to direct people. RNC merchandise shops and concession stands were closed Sunday.

The most activity was on the event floor where banners proclaimed "MAKE AMERICA GREAT ONCE AGAIN!" Stairs up to the stage were lined with red lights and balloons waited in nets to be dropped from the ceiling. TV reporters rehearsed their live shots.

During a Color Guard rehearsal, five men carrying flags and rifles practiced their procession and presenting of the colors.

Several songs played from the sound system periodically, including "The Star-Spangled Banner." RNC staff checked sound levels for the various camera crews.

"Testing mic one," someone said. "Hello, Milwaukee."

Wisconsin pastors pray for Trump’s recovery at Turning Point Action event

Several dozen people gathered at Zeidler Union Square Sunday afternoon for a prayer vigil for former President Donald Trump following his attempted assassination on Saturday.

The gathering was hosted by conservative group Turing Point Action.

People were clad in “Make America Great Again” hats, held American flags and signed a “get well soon” sign for the former president.

Milwaukee resident Bryan Dudley, 51, said he attended to show his support for Trump.

“It was a tragedy what happened yesterday to begin with, shouldn't ever happen… just because you don't like somebody doesn't mean you need to take them out,” Dudley said.

Dudley said while he understands tensions will be high in Milwaukee this week during the Republican National Convention he is still looking forward to a positive event.

A handful of pastors from across Wisconsin, including Milwaukee pastor Marty Calderon, prayed for Trump’s recovery and thanked God for saving his life.

At times, they encouraged praying for the safety of President Joe Biden and elected officials in Congress, whether Republican or Democratic.

“I was asked to come pray for our nation, for our country … I don’t care if you’re Democrat, Republican, I don’t care who you believe in,” Calderon told the Journal Sentinel.

“I was very shocked,” Calderon said of the assassination attempt.

Calderon added he’s avoiding the downtown next week during the RNC despite being asked to come as a guest. Instead, he’ll be praying.

“I expect a lot of chaos, to a point, on both ends. It’s not just going to be one particular group, it’s just going to be very chaotic down here.”

Interfaith leaders rally hundreds to reject Christian nationalism

Over 500 people have filled the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s performing arts center for an interfaith “ rally for democracy ” this afternoon in opposition to the Republican National Convention and in rejection of Christian nationalism.

Civil rights activist and minister Al Sharpton had been scheduled to speak at the rally but canceled after being asked to offer eulogy for D'Vontaye Mitchell , who died after being held down by security guards outside a Milwaukee hotel June 30.

The event at the Zelazo Center was organized by Milwaukee Inner-City Congregations Allied for Hope ( MICAH ), a social justice and interfaith organization representing 42 congregations.

At a press conference before the 2 p.m. rally, MICAH President Richard Shaw, a pastor at St. Matthew CME Church, said the event was necessary to show the world that “there's a group of religious leaders who do not stand for white Christian nationalism.”

“It's necessary because the group who's meeting here in Milwaukee, they pushed an ideology that separates us,” Shaw said. “But we want to show that regardless of our race, regardless of our religion, regardless of our origin, our sexual origin, our gender, that we come together.”

Janan Najeeb, who serves as director of the Milwaukee Muslim Women’s Coalition and is the first non-Christian chair of the MICAH’s religious leaders caucus, said the caucus’ work is to build “beloved community that believes in the intrinsic worth of all people.”

“MICAH has a 36 year history of welcoming people of various faiths and spiritualities, people who believe in the dignity of every human being and commit to the justice work needed to make that happen,” Najeeb said at the event.

Organizers called Christian nationalism – a movement that argues the government should be based on Christian values – an urgent threat to democracy.

Dennis Jacobson, a founding pastor of MICAH, cited surveys by the Public Religion Research Institute that found about 30% of Americans qualified as Christian nationalism adherents or sympathizers.

“To privilege Christianity would destroy our multicultural democracy and kill the dream of a beloved community for which so many people are striving,” Jacobson said. “If white Christian nationalism prevails, you may soon know what it's like to live in an authoritarian society."

The rally, scheduled to run until 6 p.m., features a range of local and national speakers who will discuss Christian nationalism, its “threat to democracy,” and how attendees can work together to reject it.

People waiting in airport observation lot told to leave

About two dozen cars were waiting in the plane observation lot at the Milwaukee International Airport. Some were waiting to see Trump’s plane land. Around 2:30 p.m., they were told to leave by Milwaukee County Sheriff’s department officers to prepare for Trump’s arrival at Signature Flight Support.

All the cars left. Officers told media and people watching from the cars that the observation lot would be closing and no one would be allowed to park along the observation lot fence on Layton Avenue.

Andrew G. of Milwaukee was waiting to see Trump’s plane land and flying a large American flag out of his sun roof. He said he had already purchased the flag today and wanted to come out and see Trump’s plane after last night’s shooting.

Andrew called the assassination attempt “absolutely horrible” and said he was “speechless.”

“If convicting Trump as a felon made his poll numbers go up, what do you think this is going to do?” he said.

Others waiting in the observation lot, such as a couple who was enjoying Leon’s custard before heading out on vacation, were surprised to learn Trump was due to fly in nearby.

Coalition to March on the RNC reconfirmed route with city last night

Coalition to March on the RNC reconfirmed route with city last nightThe Coalition to March on the RNC held a press conference Sunday afternoon to share updates on their planned march route.

On July 12, organizers shared a revised route plan and said they had reached a “handshake agreement” with MPD and the city attorney’s office, though city officials did not confirm the agreement.

Omar Flores, the coalition’s co-chair, said the group reconfirmed their route with the city Saturday night.

Asked if the route would change if the perimeter is adjusted, Flores said “all of the planning from the city has been extremely last-minute, and so we’re pretty used to last-minute changes and we’ll be ready for anything.”

The group said Sunday that a representative from the city attorney’s office would join the route “to ensure that there’s no problems.”

The route is separate from the city’s designated parade route.

Flores said the attempted assassination on former President Donald Trump does not change their messaging. Asked multiple times by reporters if the group condemned the shooting, Flores repeated “it has nothing to do with us.”

The coalition will hold a press conference 10 a.m. tomorrow, followed by a rally at 11 a.m. and a march at 12 p.m. The group currently only plans to march on Monday.

Trump to leave for Milwaukee shortly

Former President Trump said he will arrive in Milwaukee Sunday, just hours after he was wounded in an assassination attempt during a rally Saturday in Pennsylvania.

Trump on Truth Social Sunday afternoon said he will be leaving for Milwaukee at 3:30 ET as scheduled, despite originally planning to delay his arrival at the Republican National Convention following the shooting.

"Based on yesterday's terrible events, I was going to delay my trip to Wisconsin, and The Republican National Convention, by two days," he wrote, "but have just decided that I cannot allow a 'shooter,' or potential assassin, to force change to scheduling, or anything else."

Earlier in the day, President Joe Biden said he asked the Secret Service to "review all security measures" for the RNC in Milwaukee.

"As I said last night, there's no place in America for this kind of violence or any violence for that matter," Biden said Sunday. "As assassination attempt is contrary to everything we stand for as a nation."

-Lawrence Andrea

Biden says he directed Secret Service to review all security measures for RNC

President Joe Biden gave brief remarks from the White House Sunday afternoon, noting he spoke with former President Donald Trump Saturday night. Biden will also address the nation from the Oval Office Sunday night

"I've directed the head of the Secret Service to review all security measures - all security measures - for the Republican National Convention, which is scheduled to start tomorrow," Biden said.

Biden emphasized all of the security measures will be reviewed. The Secret Service has not yet released any information on security measures that could change.

Melania Trump issues statement after assassination attempt

Former First Lady Melania Trump issued a statement Sunday responding to the assassination attempt on her husband, former President Donald Trump.

Melania Trump said when she "watched that violent bullet strike my husband, Donald, I realized my life, and Barron's life, were on the brink of devastating change." She said she was grateful for the secret service agents and law enforcement officials who "risked their own lives to protect my husband."

"The winds of change have arrived," she ended her statement. "For those of you who cry in support, I thank you. I commend those of you who have reached out beyond the political divide - thank you for remembering that every single politician is a man or a woman with a loving family."

While Melania Trump was not included on a list of headliners and keynote speakers for the RNC, other members of Trump's family are expected to speak, including his sons Donald Jr. and Eric Trump and Republican National Committee co-chair Lara Trump.

Delegates arriving at Mitchell International

Brenda Milewski, 64, carried a black-and-red tote bag through the terminal at General Mitchell International Airport Sunday morning with script encouraging people to "Vote for Trump."

Milewski, a Washington state delegate, was among visitors who began arriving in Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention following the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania Saturday night. The shooting was on the minds of several RNC attendees as they arrived at the airport, but several said they were still excited for the convention and not worried about safety or security in Milwaukee.

"I am excited," Milewski said. "And very confident. Although there was the incident from yesterday, it's still going to be pretty strong and we still have the confidence knowing that Trump's going to be our person."

Clif Vicars, an alternate delegate from Tennessee, flew in Sunday morning from the Tri-City Airport for his first Republican National Convention.

"I'm not apprehensive at all," Vicars said as he walked through the terminal in a red Make America Great Again hat.

Schimming: Trump is expected to be in Milwaukee ‘soon’

Republican Party of Wisconsin Chairman Brian Schimming said it “remains to be seen” whether there will be changes to the RNC as a result of the assassination attempt targeting former President Donald Trump.

“We feel pretty confident on where we are there,” Schimming told WISN-TV. “I'm sure there's some folks getting another look today just to make sure, but we feel pretty confident we're going to have a great convention.”

Schimming said he hadn’t seen anything yet about any changes to the convention program.

“I know the President will be on site, and so we're looking forward to welcoming him here to Milwaukee and to the Republican National Convention. I don't see a situation where there are massive changes,” Schimming said. “We haven't been told anything that's going to change, but it wouldn't surprise me.”

Asked when Trump would arrive in Milwaukee, Schimming said, “Soon.”

-Mary Spicuzza and Alison Dirr

Long line into Fiserv

There is a single entrance into Fiserv Forum on Sunday, with press, volunteers and others affiliated with the RNC trying to get inside in a timely manner.

Some national media reporters grew impatient as the line expanded around the block past Mader’s. At least 100 people stood in line.

“I have a hit (a live TV appearance) in 20 minutes,” one TV reporter told an RNC staffer.

Someone asked how the line could be sped up. Another questioned if the line was even moving.

One convention staffer managing the line described the situation as a “disaster.”

RNC staff are bringing in a computer to scan credentials more quickly.

Will the RNC's welcome party still take place Sunday in Milwaukee?

A spokesperson for the RNC's host committee told the Journal Sentinel there were "no changes planned at this time" for the committee's convention welcome party scheduled for Sunday at the Summerfest grounds at Henry Maier Festival Park.

Wisconsin GOP chair doubts there will be 'massive' changes to convention

The head of the Milwaukee Republican Party said Sunday that officials may make some changes to this week's convention schedule, but nothing very major.

"I don't see a situation where there are massive changes," said Brian Schimming, chairman of the Republican Party of Wisconsin, speaking on WISN-TV in Milwaukee.

One issue is when Trump will arrive in Milwaukee and what he will be doing here, he said, and that "remains to be decided."

— David Jackson, USA TODAY

Trump still plans to come to the RNC as scheduled

Trump was  rushed from a stage in Pennsylvania Saturday night  after gunshots were fired as he was speaking to supporters at a rally.

Trump left the stage with blood on his ear and cheek. The U.S. Secret Service said in a statement that a suspected shooter fired multiple shots toward the stage before being "neutralized" by the Secret Service.

A joint statement released by the Trump campaign and the RNC Saturday night after the shooting said that Trump "looks forward to joining you all in Milwaukee as we proceed with our convention to nominate him to serve as the 47th President of the United States."

As part of an early Sunday morning post on Truth Social, Trump said, "I truly love our Country, and love you all, and look forward to speaking to our Great Nation this week from Wisconsin."

Coalition to March on the RNC 2024 will continue as planned Monday

For months, the Coalition to March on the RNC 2024 was planning peaceful protests in opposition to the RNC, and the shooting at Trump's rally won't change the group's plans.

"The Coalition to March on the RNC reaffirms our commitment to a family-friendly march along the route we have agreed on with the city," the Coalition said in a statement. "From the very beginning of our coalition, we have been clear about two things: we stand in opposition to the racist and reactionary Republican agenda, and we are a broad coalition that is planning a family-friendly march. Our points of unity are in opposition to the entire Republican agenda, not solely one candidate or politician."

When does the RNC start? When is the Republican National Convention?

The RNC begins Monday, July 15.

How many days is the RNC? What are the RNC convention dates?

The convention runs four days, from Monday, July 15 through Thursday, July 18.

What's the RNC 2024 convention schedule?

Here's the master schedule of events for the Republican National Convention .

The  convention is closed to all  but delegates, politicians, media members and volunteers.

Events kick off Sunday night with the invitation-only  "Red, White and Brew" welcome party  at the Henry Maier Festival Park.

Throughout the week, guests are invited to attend official sessions at the convention venues; affinity group receptions; lectures and presentations; and film screenings.

Many events require tickets or registration; be sure to consult the master calendar for information on how to register.

The official convention watch party takes place each day at the Drink Wisconsinbly Pub, 320 W. Highland Ave., across from  Fiserv Forum .

— Claire Reid

What's the RNC convention location?

Fiserv Forum,  home of the Milwaukee Bucks , is the main venue for the RNC. That's also where the first  Republican debate was held  in August. Thousands of delegates will gather there to hear the big speeches.

What's the RNC convention agenda, platform?

Monday, the party approved a new platform that solidifies Trump's takeover of the party.

The platform, released after a closed meeting of Republican National Committee party officials in Milwaukee's Baird Center, promotes nationalism, is less socially conservative on the issue of abortion access and promotes new voting restrictions at a time when the GOP is pushing a conflicting message to their party faithful.

The way the platform was crafted and approved angered some committee members focused on pursuing a more aggressive policy on abortion access, who told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel debate was discouraged more than had been the case in previous platform draftings.

Here's more about the Republican Party platform

— Molly Beck and Mary Spicuzza

Can I get tickets to the Republican National Convention?

Unless you're a delegate, politician, media member or volunteer, you won't be able to attend the RNC. Those attendees already have credentials to get inside the convention venues.

In other words, you can't buy a ticket to get into the convention if you're a member of the public.

But there are other RNC-related events that are open to the public. And, there are plenty of  ways to watch the RNC . Numerous platforms will stream the convention, including the Journal Sentinel. Fox News Media will also have coverage across all of its platforms.

When will Donald Trump speak at RNC? When to expect former president to take the stage

where to watch travel channel shows

Donald Trump is still expected to appear at the 2024 Republican National Convention this week, days after an assassination attempt at his Pennsylvania rally.

The former president is scheduled to join politicians, celebrities and his own family members at the convention in Milwaukee, where he is expected to be officially nominated by the party for president and announce his vice president running mate.

The RNC kicks off in Milwaukee on Monday, just days after a bullet grazed Trump's ear at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Popping sounds rang out amongst the crowd, and Trump was swept off stage by Secret Service agents. The gunman, identified by the FBI as Thomas Matthew Crooks , was shot and killed by agents.

The shooting left some Trump supporters wondering if he will still speak at the convention.

Here's what to know.

When will Donald Trump speak at RNC 2024?

Trump is expected to address delegates on Thursday evening, the last day of the convention , when he is formally nominated by Republicans to be the next president of the United States.

In a joint statement released Saturday evening, the Trump campaign and RNC said Trump "looks forward to joining you all in Milwaukee as we proceed with our convention to nominate him to serve as the 47th President of the United States."

Trump also said on Truth Social that he plans to speak at the convention.

“I truly love our country, and love you all, and look forward to speaking to our great nation this week from Wisconsin,” he wrote in a post Saturday after the shooting.

It is believed that Trump might reveal his VP pick at the convention on Wednesday.

Former first lady Melania Trump is expected to join her husband in Milwaukee , though it's unknown whether she will speak to delegates.

When does the RNC start?

The 2024 Republican National Convention starts Monday in Milwaukee.

Where is Donald Trump?

Trump flew back to New Jersey, where he has a home, on Saturday after the shooting.

The former president was scheduled to fly to Milwaukee for the convention on Sunday. However, it's not clear if he stuck to those travel plans.

When is Donald Trump's next rally?

Lord of the Rings stars reunite in first trailer for new travel show

They're going on an adventure!

preview for The Rings of Power season 2 - Official Teaser Trailer (Prime Video)

The pair – best known for playing Hobbits Pippin and Merry in the movie trilogy – are fronting Billy and Dom Eat the World , which sees them adventure to six locations across the world and discover local food and secrets.

In the first trailer (which you can watch here ), Boyd and Monaghan reunite with Lord of the Rings co-star Ian McKellen as they take a trip to his London pub, the Gandalf actor admitting he would "confuse the two of you" when working on the movies.

The clip then gives a teaser of some of the other locations that the pair explore, including Japan and the Outer Hebrides, as they dive into some delicious-looking dishes.

"What better way to find out about the culture than through the food that they eat?" Boyd explains.

The show was first announced early last year, and has its roots in the pair's podcast series The Friendship Onion .

"The podcast folded, but Billy and I had said right from the start that if we could find something in the podcast that we could build out into a show, we would," Monaghan recently told Deadline of the concept.

"One of our favourite ways to get to know a city is to check out a local restaurant. Myself, Billy, Elijah Wood and Sean Astin go to conventions very often, and one of the things we do over these weekends is pick a restaurant, and go and eat."

Boyd added: "If you ask someone to bring you something from their childhood or their country, it opens a door to conversation. We felt food is a great in to finding out about people and communities."

The star also admitted that because the two know each other so well, it "becomes an easy thing to do", expressing hope that the show goes on for multiple seasons.

Billy and Dom Eat the World is yet to confirm a release date.

Current Spotify Premium members were all moved onto these plans automatically after price increases in April 2024.

The prices of these plans are: Individual Premium (£11.99 per month), Family Premium (£19.99 per month) and Duo (£16.99 per month).

The new Basic plan - only available to existing Premium subscribers - includes all the regular perks, but without the 15 hours of audiobooks.

A strong US stock market rally today is being described as a "Trump bounce".

Market commentators credited the prospect of a big sympathy vote for the former president-turned presidential hopeful after the failed assassination attempt at the weekend.

As such, investors were pricing in a greater chance of him winning a second term in November.

The S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average both hit new record highs as hopes grew for investor-friendly policies ahead, such as extended tax cuts and looser regulation.

Trump Media & Technology Group was one of the most actively traded shares.

They were up 34%.

On this side of the Atlantic, the FTSE 100 was on course to close about 0.8% down.

Burberry was the biggest faller, down 16%, following a weak trading update that prompted the luxury brand to cancel is dividend.

The Welsh government is considering restricting free refills of sugary soft drinks in restaurants - potentially impacting fans of Nando's, Five Guys, Pizza Hut and Popeyes.

It has launched a consultation in an attempt to encourage people to make "healthier choices".

Eluned Morgan, Labour cabinet secretary for health and social care, said more than 60% of the population is "living with obesity or overweight".

She is proposing a "package of measures to improve the health of our food environments across Wales".

It is proposed that retailers be prohibited from placing HFSS products (high in fat, salt and sugar), in areas such as aisle ends and checkout/queueing areas.

There could also be restrictions on promotions.

Restaurants would be exempt from price and location promotions, "except in the case of free refills of sugar-sweetened beverages".

It is being proposed that "failure to comply with an improvement notice" could result in the "option of issuing a fixed monetary penalty of £2,500".

Grandparents in Sweden are eligible for paid parental leave under a new law aimed at extending childcare benefits beyond children's immediate family.

The programme, launched at the start of this month, allows parents to transfer a portion of their parental leave days to other caretakers, including grandparents.

The law enables single parents to transfer up to 90 days of paid leave to other caregivers and a parental couple to transfer up to 45 days, according to the Swedish government's Social Insurance Agency.

This comes 50 years after the country became the first ever nation to introduce paid parental leave that could be split between both parents - and many countries, including the UK, copied.

Dozens of tonnes of fake olive oil worth more than €900,000 (£757,000) have been seized in Italy.

Authorities confiscated a total of 71 tonnes of the "oily substance", with 42 tonnes of it boxed and ready to be sold as Italian extra virgin olive oil, one of Italy's biggest national police forces said.

Seven people were allegedly behind the counterfeit goods, with the Carabinieri accusing them of criminal conspiracy, adulteration of food substances intended for marketing, fraud in public military supplies and adulteration of food for export.

"During the operations, several boxes and warehouses used by the suspects were searched, seizing 71 tonnes of oily substance, contained in plastic tubs and cans of various sizes," it said .

Equipment used for packaging and distribution, including 1,145 customs excise duty stamps and labels claiming the oil was "extra virgin", have also been taken by officers.

The investigation comes as the price of olive oil continues to soar in the UK - the cost of a 500ml bottle has risen from £6.16 in May 2023 to £8.60, according to the latest data.

The Money team has previously found a bacterial disease, criminal gangs, changing weather patterns and Brexit have all played a part in the increases.

As we reported in our markets update below, the pound has held its recent gains against the dollar, with one pound buying $1.2982. It's also at a near two-year high against the euro - £1 equals €1.1912.

So, this could be the perfect time to buy your holiday money.

Recently, we spoke with three travel experts to find out when, where and how to pay abroad in order to make the most of your pound.

CREDIT CARD

"The  cheapest way to spend overseas is often on plastic , if you've got the right plastic," said James Jones, head of consumer affairs at Experian.

"Using credit and debit cards can be a great way to get the very best exchange rates."

He said rates offered by currency exchange shops are usually "much less attractive" than those offered on some cards, which were much closer to the rates the banks use themselves.

Fees could wipe out any gains

But it's essential to be aware of things like non-sterling transaction fees, cash withdrawal fees and credit card interest.

So shop around for a card with travel rewards, Mr Jones said - and do this before your trip.

"You probably need to give yourself, ideally, six weeks."

Extra protection

When you book a trip between £100 and £30,000, try and pay for some of it on a credit card to get "extra protection" under section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act, said Mr Jones.

That means the card provider is jointly responsible with the retailer if something goes wrong, such as arriving at a hotel only to find it has closed down.

If you are using a credit card, make sure you are can pay it off in full to avoid interest charges, said Sean Tipton from the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA).

One trap you must not falling into

An increasingly common trap when paying with card (credit or debit) is being presented with the option to pay in the local currency or in pounds, said Mr Jones and Mr Tipton.

While paying in sterling might "seem like a wonderful convenience" you will ultimately be paying "quite a bit more for the purchase", Mr Jones said.

If you pay in pounds, the local retailer's bank sets the exchange rate, but if you pay in the local currency, your UK bank sets the rate.

DEBIT CARDS

"Some service providers don't apply fees for overseas use on their regular UK debit cards," says Moneyfacts - but you must always check as some incur big fees.

Alternatively, "some service providers offer specialist travel debit cards that don't impose non-sterling transaction fees and cash withdrawal fees".

PREPAID TRAVEL CARDS

If you're looking to avoid a credit check, prepaid cards can be loaded with multiple currencies and work like a debit card, without being connected to your bank.

"Typically, prepaid travel cards will offer competitive or even no charges for foreign usage, which can make them a cheaper alternative to using a normal credit or debit card while on holiday," says MoneyFacts.

One of the most popular prepaid cards, Revolut, uses its own exchange rates, which might not always be the best you can find - and while it is fee free on weekdays, there are charges at weekends, so do your research.

Also be aware - prepaid cards do not offer purchase protection like a credit card and aren't regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

"Don't rely solely on a card - it can backfire on you if you do," said Mr Tipton.

Some taxis only take cash, leaving you to face hefty charges withdrawing from an ATM.

In some countries, like Argentina, it can be difficult to get money out of ATMs without a local bank account, Mr Tipton said.

Mr Jones added: "If you're in a very remote part of the world that actually doesn’t have many ATMs and maybe where cash is king, then that might dictate what you need to do."

Where and when to get cash

"I'd strongly recommend [to] get some cash out in the UK," said Mr Tipton.

It can be difficult to find a bureau de change in some developing nations, and ATMs have "started introducing quite hefty charges" across the board, he said.

The exceptions are countries with really high inflation rates, where it may make more sense to get cash out when you arrive, he added.

When to exchange currency really depends on the destination, said Laura Plunkett, head of travel money at the Post Office.

"Exchange rates change frequently, so if you have time, do your homework and lock in a rate when it is good."

What is a good exchange rate for Europe?

Some 80% of British holidays abroad take place in the Eurozone, said Mr Tipton.

The rate has remained "fairly stable", but if you see the pound increasing in value that may be the time to buy a larger amount of Euros for a couple of years in advance, he added.

Mr Tipton said 1.2 to the pound is a "pretty healthy" time to buy, but "it is a bit of a lottery".

Every year the pound gets stronger against the South African rand, and the same in Argentina, where the peso is "unbelievably weak", Mr Tipton suggested.

In store or online?

"Most online suppliers will insist on a minimum order value that might be too high for some people, and you'll have to make sure that you're home for when it's delivered," said Ms Plunkett.

"But typically, rates are better online if that's an option for you."

Burberry has ousted its chief executive and announced the appointment of a new CEO this morning.

The move came as the luxury British fashion brand scrapped shareholder payments and reported a "disappointing" financial performance and a "more challenging than expected" business transition.

The company said it expected to make a loss in the first half of the year if current trends persist, as previously identified weakness had "deepened".

Taking up the reigns is former Michael Kors boss Joshua Schulman.

Following the update, Burberry's share price was down 12.5%.

The index Burberry is a constituent of, the FTSE 100, was down 0.4%, as was the larger FTSE 250 which comprises more UK companies listed on the London Stock Exchange.

The price of oil, as measured by a barrel of Brent crude, is slightly lower than it has been for most of the past four weeks at $84.79 a barrel, but it is still above May and June prices.

The pound has held its gains against the dollar, with one pound buying $1.2982. It's also at a near two-year high against the euro - £1 equals €1.1912.

After the assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump, the cryptocurrency Bitcoin enjoyed another steep rise, though is still below the all-time high reached in March.

A box of Celebrations has been quietly shrunk.

It doesn't quite mean Christmas is cancelled - but there may be even more bickering than usual as there'll be on average five fewer sweets to choose from.

We mentioned that the shrinkage had been implemented quietly - firms don't usually advertise these things and instead we got wind of the 600g box becoming 550g via a warehouse worker who posted this on X...

The Money team contacted Mars Wrigley for comment - we haven't heard back but when approached by The Grocer , a spokeswoman said the business had "been actively trying to find ways to absorb the rising costs of raw materials and operations".

"Unfortunately, the growing pressures mean more needs to be done.

"Reducing the size of our products is not a decision we have taken lightly but it is necessary for shoppers to still be able to enjoy their favourite Celebrations treats without compromising on quality or taste," she added.

Mars Wrigley has also shrunk the tub itself, she said, "to reduce the plastic used in the packaging by 17%."

On whether the cost of a box would come down, the spokeswoman said: "Pricing is at the sole discretion of the retailer."

It would seem fairly pointless to shrink the product because of rising costs and then also reduce the price - but let's see.

The Grocer has pointed out that Mars Wrigley has shrinkflation form in recent years - impacting Twix, Maltesers, Galaxy bars and Starburst.

Barclays has launched a £175 incentive for new customers to bank with them.

The cash can be claimed by switching to a Barclays Bank Account or Premier Current Account by 30 August.

But the majority of switchers will have to pay a £5 monthly fee to be eligible.

In order to qualify for the free cash with a Barclays Bank Account, customers must pay for a Blue Rewards subscription in the Barclays app.

The recently revamped Blue Rewards comes with Apple TV+, a Major League Soccer season pass and cashback incentives.

Still interested? Then you need to use the current account switch service, pay in at least £800 and move over at least two direct debits.

The alternative is to open a Premier Current Account, which is only available to those with an income of £75,000 or at least £100,000 in savings or investments with Barclays.

Every Monday we get an expert to answer your money problems or consumer disputes. Find out how to submit yours at the bottom of this post. Today's question is...

iD Mobile has placed a default on my credit record for a £16 debt that I didn't know I had. I cancelled the direct debit for my £3.99 per month SIM but they accumulated £16 without me knowing because I had stopped using the phone, their emails went in my spam folder and I didn't get a letter.  As soon as I learned about the debt I paid it off but the default is stopping me from getting a mortgage. Are they allowed to do that? Can I get the default removed? Caitlin

In a bid to help Caitlin resolve this issue, we first went to iD Mobile for their version of events.

They gave us a timeline of the action taken:

25 August 2023 - text sent confirming direct debit was cancelled and warning this can lead to missed payments and extra charges

31 August 2023 - text sent asking for immediate payment of £3.99 and saying account was suspended due to missed payment

2 September 2023  - Final demand letter sent

26 September, October and November 2023 - texts sent reminding customer their payment was due

17 December 2023 - Account was disconnected and default was reported to the credit reference agencies

20 February 2024 - The balance was paid

21 February 2024 - Credit reference agencies told default can now be marked as settled

7 May 2024 - Subject Access Request for all data relating to the debt received and completed on 28 May

We asked the Complaints Resolver , Scott Dixon, to take a look at this case to outline what Caitlin could do. He said the timeline above put her question in a "completely different light" - and "firms have rights as well as consumers".

"Cancelling a direct debit does not terminate the contract. It merely stops the payment. You should always put a cancellation request in writing and adhere to the T&Cs you have signed and agreed to," he said.

ID Mobile terms and conditions state: With 30-day SIM only contracts, you have the flexibility to change or cancel your plan at any time, after your first month with us.

Scott said: "You should have cancelled the contract and plan via the iD Mobile app, online account or by live chat."

Data Subject Access Request

Scott went on: "A Subject Access Request (SAR), which you now seem to have done, would reveal all communications made by SMS, email and post and if any errors were made before recording the default.

"This would prove whether iD Mobile has followed due process and adhered to their timeline of events.

"Reading the timeline of events and presuming it's correct, iD Mobile are allowed to record a default, which has since been marked as settled.

"You can only get a default removed if you can prove it was an error and the provider gives permission for it to be removed.

"iD Mobile has set out its final position and says it was not a mistake."

What to do next?

As the issue relates to just £16 and has been marked as settled, but in the absence of proof that it was an error, there's one more avenue, Scott said.

"She can contact credit agencies like Experian and get a 'notice of correction' put on her credit file to explain it in more detail to help lenders understand the background to it if it's incorrect," he explained.

"You need to stress that the debt has been settled and it was an honest mistake which was remedied at the earliest opportunity.

"Obtain a copy of your credit record afterwards to see that the appropriate action has been taken.

"I would have an open conversation with any lender in advance once this has been remedied to pre-empt any future issues on loan and mortgage applications. As time moves on, it becomes less important to lenders."

Any other options?

You can also refer your case to the Communications Ombudsman.

"The ombudsman will review your dispute based on the information submitted by both parties before making a fair and impartial decision. They look at the supporting information, the law, any relevant regulation and what is accepted as good industry practice," Scott said.

"When you receive their decision, both you and the provider will have the opportunity to review it. If you decline their decision, you are free to pursue the dispute with your provider in court.

"It may not be worthwhile or viable in this case over such a trivial amount.

"If the decision goes in your favour and you accept it, the provider has up to 28 days to implement the proposed remedy."

What did iD Mobile say?

Providing a statement to the Money team, iD Mobile said our reader's complaint had not been upheld

"Although we can understand the impact this has had on our customer, we have assured that all processes were followed correctly and the default on our customer's credit file is accurate," it added.
