Is the Eras Tour coming to a Disney Cruise? What to know about Taylor Swift cruise

Ahoy, Swifties! If you were unable to attend the Eras Tour in Tampa or didn't grab tickets for the new Miami dates , you're in luck .

The “Getaway Cruise” is a fan-led  Taylor Swift-themed event aboard that is set to launch from Florida next September.

The cruise will head for the Bahamas and Disney's private island from Friday, Sept. 5, 2025 to Monday, Sept. 8, 2025. Believe Vacations travel agents Kim Haig and Kira Ashline will be hosting the enchanted event.

"The Getaway Cruise was born when Kim’s ​daughter Grace said 'Mama, I wish there was ​a Disney Cruise for Swifties' … and here we are," the website shares. "This cruise is for all fans, so bring your besties, ​your kiddos, your parents, your neighbor, you ​name it! If you need a roommate let us know ​and we can help you find one."

Will Taylor Swift also be on the cruise?

Unfortunately, there will not be any appearances from the popstar.

Believe Vacations notes on its website that they have no affiliation with Taylor Swift or Taylor Alison Swift Rights Management.

What does the Taylor Swift-themed cruise schedule look like?

The cruise is a 3-night cruise to the Bahamas, sailing out of Port Canaveral on Friday, Sept. 5, 2025. The itinerary for voyage looks like:

What documents do I need to board?

The website says that a passport is the best ID document for travel. If using a passport it cannot expire within six months of sailin​g​.

U.S. Citizens can also cruise with a birth certificate on most sailings from ​the U.S. All birth certificates must follow Disney Cruise Line’s ​requirements as outlined on its website .

Where will the Taylor Swift-themed event take place?

Get ready to watch the sun go down on the Disney Wish in the water.

The Disney Wish is Disney Cruise Line's newest ship, first setting sail in summer of 2022. According to the website, some of the experiences on the 15-deck cruise include Marvel-themed dining, immersive water slides, Broadway-style show, character meet-and-greets and an adult-only Hyperspace lounge.

Are there other Taylor Swift-themed cruises this year?

Of course there are! The “ In My Cruise Era … ” is set to launch from Port of Miami in October.

The cruise, on the Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas, leaves for the Bahamas the day after Swift's final show of her three-day stop in Miami. According to the website, the cruise fare includes stateroom accommodations, dinner in the main dining room nightly as well as additional buffet and a la carte options around the ship. It also includes entertainment.

The website does note that all 199 staterooms are currently booked and its waitlist is now closed, but officials said that those who previously joined the waitlist should "keep an eye on your email, we will offer spots in our group to members of our waitlist in the order inquiries were received."

Family of nine left stranded in Alaska after cruise ship leaves without them

A family of nine was left stranded in Alaska after a misunderstanding with their tour operator saw them missing their scheduled cruise departure.

The family, originally from Oklahoma, comprises two parents, six children and a 78-year old grandmother.

They were all travelling on cruise ship Norwegian Encore, which docked in Ketchikan in Alaska.

After watching a lumberjack show, the group returned to the bus stop to catch a bus ride back to the port, which was organised by a local tour operator.

But they were mistakenly told the bus they were trying to get on was full, and were instructed to wait for the next one.

No other bus arrived, so the family frantically called the port authority to arrange alternative transportation.

When they finally made it back to the docks they realised Norwegian Encore had already sailed away – taking with it their passports, medication and personal belongings.

This marked the beginning of a nightmare day for the family, who were also hit with a fine of almost $9,000 by Norwegian Cruise Lines for failing to board the vessel.

That fee was issued in accordance with the US Customs and Border Protection’s Passenger Vessel Services Act, which they violated by not visiting a foreign port before they returned to the US.

‘We go to get on the bus and one of the attendees is like, “The bus is full and you know, you got to wait for the next bus”,’ a family member recounted to Oklahoma news outlet KJRH.

‘We all had to quit cold turkey medication these last few days, because it was all on the cruise ship.’

Stranded in a remote port located 300 miles from Alaska’s capital of Juneau, the family tried to arrange transport back to their hometown of Tulsa, only to find out their credit card had already been charged a customs fee of almost $9,000.

The family’s return journey to Tulsa took several days and was marked by flight cancellations and airport overnight stays, during which time some family members even caught Covid. 

Upon their return to Oklahoma, family member Joshua said the group felt ‘unhealthy and beaten down’. 

Cruise line officials said they would reimburse the family for the expenses they incurred while travelling, as well as the fee issues by US Customs and Border Patrol, alongside a partial refund for the two cruise days they missed.

A spokesperson for Norwegian Cruise Lines said: ‘On the afternoon of Friday, July 12, a family of nine guests missed the ship’s all aboard time in Ketchikan, Alaska due to a misstep by a local tour operator. 

‘When the guests did not return to the ship at the published time, we attempted to contact them but were unable to reach them. As such, we alerted the local port agent in Ketchikan and requested that they assist the family with booking a hotel for the night.

‘As the guests would be unable to downline in the next port of call, Victoria, British Columbia, the port agent also helped the guests with securing flights to Seattle the following day, July 13.’

Most Common Words and Phrases Used by Crew on Cruise Ships

Everyone knows that the official language on board a cruise ship is English; however, there are many words that are used only by crew members. Some of these words come from the English, Spanish, Italian, Tagalog, and Balkan languages. If you've never worked on a cruise ship or heard these words before, you will certainly hear them if you embark on a cruise ship. Here is a list of the most frequently used words by the crew. Of course, there may be other interpretations depending on the cruise line.

These are the words that are most frequently used on board:

• Andiamo: Those who have worked in Italian companies know what this means. Everyone on board uses it all the time. It means something like "Come on," but they end up using it to rush people.

• Basura: In Spanish, it means "garbage." On the ship, it is used to refer to people. You will always hear someone calling someone else "basura."

• Bomboclat: This word is also widely used by Asians, and it means something like "idiot," "clown," or "fool." They mostly use it as a form of play, and you will also notice if someone is being serious.

• Brata: This is a word that everyone will hear on board at some point. It means "fucked." Sometimes it means "in trouble" or "in a mess." For example, when the ship stops at a port for up to 14 hours and all passengers should be on board by then, the restaurant staff will be in a brata, as they will have to serve hungry passengers who come back wanting to eat. On shipping day, it's a brata for reception as they have to guide passengers on various things, and the queue is huge. At sea, it's a brata for various departments because all passengers are on board. Some people are in a brata in their relationships because they are seeing two people at once on board. Ha ha, brata my friend!

• Bridge: This is the Command Bridge, where the captain and his crew are located. The view from the bridge is amazing, especially watching a sunset from there. They also enjoy taking a look at the Crew Beach, where the dancers spend the day topless. All emergency information and signs come from there. If there's a problem, crew members are always told to "call the bridge."

• Cabin Party: This is like putting São Paulo in Santos! It's when 15 or more people are in a cabin that sleeps two. The nights are lively when there is a Cabin Party, and it can get messy. The stories are the best, and the fun is guaranteed. There is always a Cabin Party after a Crew Party; it's a rule. If you go, make sure you choose the right group of people to hang out with.

• Call the bridge (connects to bridge): This is what people say when they want to tell someone they don't like to leave them alone. Every phone on board connects to the bridge, so someone will always tell you to "call the bridge" if you're upset about something.

• Cambuza or Cambuzeiro: This is the person responsible for supplying all (or almost all) the items that are used at the buffet or department in question. In the bar, this person would be called a "barboy," but they earn much more. It is a tough job because they have to push the trolley, which is always crowded, from deck 0 to deck 9 and organize all the "exemptions" (I can't remember the name now) and freezers. Usually,

• Each cruise has at least one instance where a crew member suffers a life-threatening incident. When a cruise is large and has multiple time zones, there can be up to three parties happening on the ship simultaneously, which can pose a risk to the crew. Most of the parties are always crowded, and their names change every time, but the music is generally the same. Nevertheless, the fun is always different, and being on board is the only way to experience it. Sometimes, parties are organized in the Back Pool, which is much more open, and everyone wants to attend. After most crew parties end, there is an after-party that takes place either in the galley or the designated crew party area, which can get wild.

• Crew Pass is your identity on the ship. It's the document that you carry with you at all times, and it serves as your identification in case something happens off the ship. The passport always stays with you and ensures your entry and departure from the vessel. The company offers a set amount of money that you can spend on the ship, which can be $100 or €100, depending on the company or your chosen salary. If you run out of money before you can recharge your Crew Pass, you can add more money by going to the Crew Purser or the Cashier Crew. It's crucial not to lose your Crew Pass or lend it to anyone as some unscrupulous individuals take advantage of crew members' carelessness and use their Crew Pass to buy things. The Crew Purser will issue a new card if you lose it.

• The Crew Purser is the person responsible for resolving crew-related issues, from embarkation and disembarkation to answering any queries the crew may have. The Purser is the person who issues your Crew Pass, takes care of transfers, and other matters that you'll find out during your tenure.

• Getting a day off is rare, depending on your role on the ship. Most crew members never take the full day off, and the ones who do get a few hours of rest at most. Sometimes, you get a longer break by working a few extra hours so that you can visit a place far from the ship, such as Rome or the Acropolis. The restaurant usually provides a longer break during lunch, which can be quite refreshing.

• If you're unhappy with something, you may hear the phrase "Do not like to go home!" from others. Some crew members may irritate you or try to take advantage of you, but if you complain, that's what you'll hear. After all, if you don't like something or are unhappy, you can go home.

• Drills are an essential part of safety procedures on the ship, but no crew member likes to participate in them as they take up some precious time. The drill is a simulation of an emergency with passengers when they board the ship, and every crew member has a designated position to guide the passengers. The drill is usually conducted at ports where the crew members want to disembark and explore. The simulation can include various things, such as descending in lifeboats and other emergency procedures. The drill can take a long time, and it can be stressful, especially if you're on the fire team.

• The gangway is a place full of mixed emotions and different stories. It's the first place you step on the ship when you board and the last when you disembark. It's the entrance and exit to several towns and amazing places. It's where you part ways with friends and "loves" on board. Everyone has a story to tell about the gangway.

Alma Cruceros Reveals First Details of its New Cruise Line

Alma Cruceros has revealed the first details of its new cruise operation.

The startup brand is set to operate SunStone’s Ocean Victory during summer seasons starting in 2025.

According to its website, Alma is based in Málaga and plans to become the first luxury cruise line based in Spain.

The company is led by Elisardo Sánchez Burgos, who also serves as Executive President of the Premium Hotels Group.

“An idea that was conceived in May 2018 soon became a dream and is now becoming reality thanks to the enthusiastic and persevering efforts of a wonderfully talented team,” he said in a social media update.

Alma Cruceros is set to embark on its maiden season in April 2025. The maiden voyage sails from Las Palmas, in the Canary Islands, to Málaga, in the Western Mediterranean.

According to Burgos, the ship will operate primarily of Málaga, offering itineraries to ports in the region of Andalucía, as well as Ceuta and Melilla, two Spanish ports on the North African coast.

“Our project is very important to support the growth and consolidation of the cruise industry in these ports. In some of them, we will be the first shipping company in terms of number of calls,” he said in a LinkedIn post.

Bookings for the maiden season opened in June, with 16 cruises currently on sale for departures between April and October 2025.

In addition to Málaga, the Ocean Victory is also set to offer cruises departing from Barcelona and Tarragona for itineraries to different regions of Spain, including Costa Brava, Costa Azul and the Balearic Islands.

The 186-guest vessel will also sail to international destinations, with planned visits to ports in Corsica, France, and Sardinia, Italy. According to the company’s website, prices for a seven-night cruise start at 3,570 euro per person.

With an all-inclusive product, Alma Cruceros plans to offer an “oasis of sustainability and luxury experiences,” according to its website.

Originally designed for upscale cruises in remote parts of the globe, the Ocean Victory represents the “perfect fusion of modern luxury and eco-responsibility, offering an unparalleled onboard experience,” the company added.

Alma also said that its product will focus on the Spanish identity, with a celebration of the local culture that will resonate with Spanish-speaking guests.

Different aspects of the onboard experience, from gastronomy to entertainment, were tailored to reflect the Spanish heritage.

Part of SunStone’s Infinity Class, the Ocean Victory will operate for Alma Cruceros as part of a charter agreement announced back in April .

The 2021-built vessel also offers winter seasons in Antarctica for Albatros Expeditions as part of a different charter deal.

27 cruise ship embarkation day do’s and don’ts

You've planned your cruise, and now it's embarkation day. You can't wait to get on board your ship and relax, sip a tropical drink and stare out to sea. You're on vacation – woohoo!

Not so fast. You might be ready to cruise, but the ship's crew still is getting the ship ready, having just disembarked last week's passengers.

You must go through the ship's pier-side check-in process, which can take time. Remember, you are one of thousands of people entering a floating city at basically the same time. As with any other secured structure, you can't walk right onto a ship.

The best way to start your cruise is to arrive at the pier expecting some lines and minor hassles — and perhaps a bit of chaos — and then be thrilled if you don't encounter any of them. Keep a level head and look forward to good times once your sailing gets underway.

Here are some dos and don'ts to help make embarkation day as hassle-free as possible.

DO check that you have the necessary paperwork and documentation

The cruise line will send pre-cruise reminders explaining what to expect at check-in, including health and safety procedures. It will outline which documents, IDs, QR codes or other electronic receipts you must have ready.

However, it's your responsibility to arrive at the pier with the proper documentation. I like to print out and bring paper copies of documents as a backup to electronic documents.

DON'T arrive at the pier early

Many cruise lines assign passengers a staggered time to arrive at the pier. Arrive early, and you'll just have to wait — often, outside in the hot sun, without access to water, restrooms or other necessities. Arrive at the pier as close as you can to your scheduled time, but don't freak out if you are a few minutes late. You won't be turned away.

DO hand over your big suitcases

As soon as you arrive at the pier, porters will be available to take your large suitcases, which will be delivered later to your cabin. (Dock workers expect a small tip for the service.) Without your luggage, you'll have your hands free for the rest of the embarkation process. Make sure your suitcase is tagged with your name and cabin number, ship name and sail date.

DON'T relinquish your carry-on bag

In your cruise carry-on , pack your medications, valuables, documents and anything else you will need until your luggage arrives in your cabin. Since you're likely leaving from a sunny destination, you also might want to have a sun hat, sunscreen and sunglasses. If you've come from a cold-weather place, pack shorts, flip-flops and your bathing suit so you don't have to wait for your suitcases to arrive before you hit the pool.

DO be prepared to go through security

Once you prove (through your paperwork or electronically) that you belong on the ship, you will go through security. The setup is similar to an airport. You put your belongings on a screening belt and walk through a metal detector. You won't have to take off your shoes but will have to remove belts and bulky jewelry and clear your pockets.

DON'T try to sneak any banned items onto the ship

Your carry-on items will be inspected via an X-ray machine at the security checkpoint, and your checked bags might be searched before they're delivered to you. While most cruise lines allow passengers to bring a small amount of alcohol, soda and bottled water for consumption in their cabin, make sure you have not gone over the cruise line's allowance for bringing your own beverages on board .

Cruise lines have specific rules for other banned items, which you can find on your line's website. These items will include weapons, fireworks, flammable liquids, candles, clothing irons, incense and anything else that produces a flame. Royal Caribbean also bans martial arts gear, baby monitors and extension cords, among other items. Carnival bans handcuffs.

DO freshen up

After your flight or drive to the port, you will want to freshen up because the fun begins at the embarkation pier. You'll find both official and unofficial photo spots at the terminal. Smile for the shipboard photographers, who will have a backdrop with the ship's name or picture set up, or take your own photos.

DO pause and look up as you enter the ship's atrium

Some ship atriums are impressively high or have cool artwork or chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. You've arrived at your floating home for the week. It's OK to stand in awe.

DON'T expect to be able to go right to your cabin

Depending on when you arrive, cabins might not be ready, as the crew needs to clean and straighten them after the previous guests have left. It's best to stay out of the way of the cabin stewards and instead find a place for you (and your carry-on luggage) to hang out until the ship announces all cabins are ready.

DON'T follow the crowds to the buffet

As the boarding process begins around noon and continues well into the afternoon, many people arrive hungry. Crew members often direct passengers to the buffet — but experienced cruisers know there are other, often less crowded, options.

On Carnival Cruise Line ships, go directly to celebrity chef Guy Fieri's poolside Guy's Burger Joint and indulge in a decadent burger or fries. If you're on one of the newer or recently updated Carnival ships, there's also the embarkation day treat of Fieri's pork butt, chicken and Mac Daddy Mac n Cheese served on the promenade (or Deck 10 on Carnival Sunrise).

Royal Caribbean fans in the know make a beeline to the Park Café for Royal Kümmelweck roast beef sandwiches, an embarkation day rite of passage. A main dining room with waiter service and specialty for-a-fee restaurants also might be alternatives for an embarkation day lunch.

DO head to your cabin when it's ready

Your big bags might not have arrived at this point, but you can drop your carry-ons and take a look to see that everything is to your satisfaction. Your cabin steward likely will stop by to say hello. This is a good time to ask how the air-conditioning, TV and safe work and to ask for any extras you might need, such as more towels, pillows and hangers, or to have the bed split from a queen into two twins. The steward will also let you know how to keep in touch if you need anything extra throughout your cruise.

DO read the safety instructions and check life jackets

Safety instructions will be posted on the back of your cabin door. Look there for the number of your assigned muster station in the event of a shipboard emergency. You'll find life jackets in your closet or elsewhere in the cabin. If you are traveling with kids, now is the time to make sure there is an appropriate infant or child life jacket in addition to a life jacket for each adult. If there isn't, alert your cabin steward.

DO watch the safety video

It used to be that everyone on a cruise ship was required to gather on embarkation day at their assigned muster station, listen to a safety briefing and be checked off a list as having been briefed. As a result of COVID-19, and a desire to keep crowds at a minimum, many cruise lines have moved to e-muster drills.

You are required to watch a video on your cabin TV or cruise line app that tells you what to do in the event of a fire or other shipboard emergency. Your smart TV or app will record that you have watched the video. You may also be required to check in with a crew member at your assigned muster. Those who skip this step will hear their cabin numbers called out over the PA system, which can be embarrassing.

DO make sure the kids understand the safety procedures

Eyes might roll, but now is the time to talk to the kids about the danger of climbing on any railings or standing on balcony furniture. Remind them that other people on the ship are strangers and that they should use the same caution they would at home. Establish rules for how much freedom children are allowed to have on board, where to leave messages for each other and how to reconnect if you get split up on the ship.

DO go out to explore the ship

You'll have time to see a lot during your cruise, but at this point I like to get the lay of the land. You might find a ship deck plan (map) in your cabin, or one might be available at the purser's desk or in the cruise line's app. It's fun to find not only the main spaces but also the hidden pools, hot tubs and other treasures you'll want to return to throughout your sailing. It's fun to do the exploring as a family.

DO sign the kids up for cruise ship camp

While you're exploring, stop by the kids' centers and sign the kids up for the onboard kids program . Staff will be on hand to welcome your progeny and show them around the play spaces and hangouts available just for them. Your kids might need to get bracelets marked with their muster station in case of emergency.

DO stop by the spa and fitness center

If you plan to do spa treatments or have hair and other beauty appointments during your cruise, now is the time to book them (if you haven't booked them in advance). Take the spa tour and sign up for the raffle — you could win a free treatment.

If you like what you see in the soothing thermal suite — which typically has hot and cold treatments — sign up now as spaces often sell out. Put your name on signup sheets for fitness classes, as these also fill up quickly.

DO take time to veg out

You don't need to do everything your first day, so if you spot a perfect spot in the sun or shade, rest your weary bones. Fun times are ahead; a little cat nap might be in order.

DON'T assume drinks are free

As you wander, especially out on deck, smiling crew members will be carrying trays of tempting and colorful icy drinks, maybe even decorated with sweet little umbrellas. Go ahead and grab one if you want — just understand you will be charged for the welcome drink.

DO watch your alcohol consumption

We get it, you bought a drinks package (in which case the above drink is included), and you want to make the most of it. But do you really want your first day on board to result in an unpleasant morning after? Better to pace yourself and drink lots of water between adult beverages.

DO take time to unpack

Once you've got the lay of the land, you probably want to unpack and get ready for your first evening on board. Don't put your luggage directly on your bed's duvet; use the luggage mat provided. Find a spot for everything because cruise cabins can quickly become cluttered. When you're finished, stow your suitcases under your bed.

DO call if your luggage hasn't arrived

It takes time to deliver thousands of suitcases to thousands of cabins. But if it's getting close to the time your ship is set to leave the pier and your suitcases have not arrived, alert your cabin steward. (If you've had a last-minute cabin change, look for your luggage by your original room.)

DO take your seasickness tablets

If you are prone to seasickness , plan to take your first pills a couple of hours before the ship is scheduled to leave the pier. They need time to kick in.

DO turn off your cellphone

To avoid costly roaming charges, you will want to keep your cellphone on airplane mode. To keep in touch with those at home and brag about your trip on social media, consider buying a shipboard Wi-Fi package . Crew members will be on hand on the first day to help you log in and connect.

DON'T forget to figure out dinner

Perhaps you plan to head to the main dining room the first evening or want to go casual at the buffet. Consider the option of specialty dining . These intimate, for-a-fee restaurants can be hard to get into (reservations are required) but are usually not as crowded on the first night of the sailing. Plus, some lines will thank you with a complimentary or discounted bottle of wine.

DO check out the daily program

You'll find a list of all the daily activities printed out in your cabin, on your cabin TV or on the shipboard app. Take a look and see what's in store for your first evening aboard.

DON'T miss the sailaway party

This is the first big activity of your cruise and not to be missed. These parties are about music, laughter and the opportunity to check out the crowd you'll be with for the week. Plus, watching the land disappear as your ship heads to sea is a dreamy experience. You're off to new horizons. Grab a drink and toast the official start of your cruise vacation.

Cruise ship expert explains why he would never bring these five everyday items on board

The cruise ship director has highlighted what items you should avoid packing.

A cruise ship expert has revealed the items you should avoid packing if you're planning to set sail anytime soon.

You may be looking at cruises as a possible option this holiday season, but there are a number of things you should consider when you start packing.

They could be a fire hazard, an allergy risk, or they could simply be illegal , so to avoid breaking any laws, you may want to double check before your bag leaves the house and goes through the scanner.

In case websites were being too vague though, or if you aren't sure if you can pack a certain item, product director at Riviera Travel, Will Sarson, has weighed in on the subject and highlighted the five items you should not bring on your cruise travels across the world .

Will said: "When packing for a cruise holiday, it's important to do your research to understand the list of prohibited items.

"This can help better planning while packing and help avoid disappointment when items are confiscated."

So, here are the items you should be wary of.

There is alcohol on board a lot of cruise ships, so you can get your cocktail fix while at sea - just make sure you don't bring a ton of bottles.

Will explained: "While alcohol is not strictly banned from cruise ships, most companies have a range of restrictions in place to avoid travellers bringing large quantities along for the trip."

It turns out that guests are limited to just one bottle of wine or champagne with potential corkage fees to drink in public.

"With so much alcohol available on board, we recommend leaving the bottles at home to avoid further costs and instead making use of the available liquor found throughout the ship and at varying ports across the world," he stated.

An iron/steamer

This is a huge safety risk while you're at sea given that it's a fire hazard, but it seems to go over a lot of holidaymakers' heads.

Will compares them to extension leads in that most cruise liners prohibit you from bringing these aboard.

"This is an item that constantly catches people out, with travellers forced to part ways with their iron or steamer," he explained.

"To avoid disappointment, it's best to leave these items at home. Many ocean and river cruises have irons or steamers onboard that can be borrowed by guests during their stay."

Candles or incense

Once again, these are an obvious fire hazard, with the naked flame or ash created already risky enough for many cruise companies.

Will acknowledged that they can be relaxing and good at 'setting the mood', but but labelled them as 'incredibly dangerous', with cruise staff certain to confiscate these items.

He highlighted: "Similarly, incense products fall under the same category. Like the rest of the items on this list, leave the candles and incense behind!"

"CBD oil is a popular wellness product that provides relief for physical pain and mental health disorders," Will explained. "But it's not allowed on cruises due to its varying legality around the world.

"While the product is legal for sale and tender throughout the UK, this is not the case in certain cruise ship stop-off destinations. As a result, the substance is not allowed onboard the ship," he revealed.

It is legal in a number of European countries such as the UK, Spain and Italy, and the North American countries of the US and Mexico, but the majority of the world still haven't legalised the product.

Every country has different laws and requirements for a prescription over the THC content.

Hopefully you weren't planning on bringing your furry friends on board, 'cause they're a big no-no.

"While this one should go without saying, you'd be surprised at how many people try to gain access to their cruise alongside pets," the product director said.

"Domestic animals are not allowed on cruises due to the allergy risk and general health and safety aspects that come with allowing cats or dogs on board."

The allowance here is that guide dogs are permitted as they provide medical assistance, but if not, it's time to call your nearest pet hotel or kennel.

1. Drop your bags in your cabin

Depending on your cruise line, you may be able to access your cabin as soon as you board, at least to drop off your bags.

By dropping off your cruise carry-on bag and other items, you can explore the ship and have some lunch, without the hassle of carrying your luggage with you.

If you can’t drop off your bags, you’ll usually be able to sit in a bar or have lunch and go to your cabin by about 1:00 pm.

2. Put away your valuables

Even if you don’t bring expensive jewelry on your cruise, you still have valuables that should be placed in your stateroom safe. Put away your passport and government identification, wallet with cash and credit cards, house and car keys. If you did bring a nice watch or any expensive jewelry, place it in the safe and lock it up as well.

3. Freshen up and change your clothes

Did you bring a bathing suit in your carry-on bag? Consider putting it on under your clothes, so that after lunch, you can relax by the pool or even head on the waterslide.

If you came from the airport or had a long drive to the cruise terminal, make sure to bring a change of clothes with you so you can freshen up.

4. Have lunch (look for buffet alternatives)

The buffet, the poolside grill and even the main dining room will often be open for lunch. If you can head to an alternative restaurant to the buffet, you’ll avoid that first day chaos, and be very happy you did.

5. Do your emuster or safety drill

This is a recent change on cruises. Many cruise ships are opting for an electronic safety drill, which you can do from your mobile phone or stateroom TV, rather than the traditional muster drill.

Why not do the safety drill on your phone while you eat or get changed in your cabin, to save some time on the first day of your cruise?

6. Make reservations

Some cruise ships have popular adult only areas, such as Sanctuary on Princess Cruises and the Vibe Beach Club on Norwegian Cruise Line. These book up so quickly, that they may even sell out!

You may even want to make your reservations to this, as well as the spa and dining, before you eat lunch and relax.

7. Have a drink

If you haven’t yet had a cocktail, this may be the time! Take a few minutes before you explore your cruise ship, to relax and enjoy a drink with your family or friends.

8. Check the daily planner

Take a look at the daily planner, or the app with the cruise line activities. You’ll be able to check the opening and closing hours for the different venues and attractions. As well, you’ll see what time the shows are scheduled for in the evening. 

9. Register and visit the kid’s camp

If you’re cruising with kids, make sure to visit and register for the kid’s camp. You’ll meet the counselors, see the planned activities, and your children may even make some friends. The kid’s club will start the first activities the first night of the cruise, so make sure to sign up as soon as you can on the first day of your cruise.

10. Purchase an internet package

If you haven’t already purchased an internet package from home before your cruise, make sure to buy one as soon as possible. Of course, this is if you will be using the internet to check emails, go on Facebook and social media, or even stream movies.

Internet can still be very pricey on cruise ships, so check into any promotions before you arrive on your cruise ship. You may also be offered a lower price option on the first day of your cruise.

11. Purchase a soda or Coffee Package

While you don’t need to purchase a beverage package, if you plan on buying a soda package, coffee or even upgrading a drink package perk, you’ll want to do this as soon as possible on the first day of your cruise.

You can purchase it the next day, but it will no be prorated for the day that you missed. You may as well buy any drink packages before you board your cruise, or on the first day, as soon as possible.

12. Explore the cruise ship

Now that you’ve completed the things to do first as you get on your cruise ship, take the time to explore your cruise ship. As you check in at boarding time, you’ll be given a small map of the ship. Follow your map to check out all the pools, the sports deck, the kids area, the lounges, public spaces, restaurants and bars.

13. Put your phone on airplane mode

Unless you want to be hit with a very expensive mobile phone bill, for using your phone and data in International waters, make sure to put your cell phone in airplane mode before Sailaway.

14. Get ready for Sailaway

Sailaway is pretty special. While your cruise ship slips away from the shore line, you may actually physically feel yourself relaxing and feeling a sense of excitement for the adventures ahead.

Unpacking is a bit of a chore, but should be done as soon as you can on the first day of your cruise. By the time your cruise sails away, your luggage will likely have been delivered to your cruise cabin .

Hang what you can, and use packing cubes to keep folded clothes organized on shelves and in drawers.

Packing cubes – They really just make packing and unpacking easier, and nothing will make you feel more organized for your cruise (or any type travel)

Reusable luggage tags – It’s a good idea to buy luggage tag holders before you cruise. You’ll simply slip the printed luggage tags (from your cruise line) into the durable plastic sleeves and attach them to each suitcase. 

Magnet hooks – Cruise cabin walls are metal. This is why magnet hooks are a top recommendation by avid cruisers to add extra hooks and storage to your stateroom.

Bonine (seasickness meds) – Make sure to bring along your favorite non drowsy motion sickness medication. Personally, I find Bonine to be very effective without negative side effects (for my family).

A good list but I believe the order of activities could be better rearranged. Number 7, making reservations, should be number 1 as many of the specialty restaurants on board require reservations and they must be made when on board the ship. As soon as we get tour room that is the first thing we do and many other passengers do this also. If you wait too long you will be disappointed. For number 10, purchase an internet package, many cruise lines allow you to do this in advance when you make your reservations. This way you can avoid the long lines at the internet room by doing it when you get on board. Number 12, explore the ship, should be last as there is plenty of time to do this after sail-away after you have done everything else listed.

Great points. It’s a good idea to make reservations quickly especially for some popular experiences that fill up.

When departing cruise take all your jewelry and expensive clothing in covered suit bag u carry that no one else they lost my bags and gave me 250 for lost bag that had 20000 worth of jewelry and all my expensive dresses shoes and husbands
