A typical campus visit includes a presentation from an Admissions Advisor, they will cover information related to financing your student’s education and admissions details, followed by a tour of campus. During your time here, you and your student do have the option of meeting with someone from their academic department of interest, just make sure to indicate you are interested in this when you are setting up your visit.

How Palm Beach Gardens is growing: Tiger Woods' golf arena towers over PBSC campus

You can't miss the tgl's sofi center when you drive down rca boulevard south of the gardens mall. league play is expected to begin in january..

new mexico state campus tour

PALM BEACH GARDENS – The indoor golf arena rising on the Palm Beach State College campus in Palm Beach Gardens now towers over nearby homes, neighborhood buildings, passing delivery trucks and neighboring trees at around 75 feet tall.

Crews have finished building the SoFi Center's foundations. And the steel and walls and roof panels are on site. Roof work began this month, and crews are working six days a week for 10 hours per day, said a spokesperson for TGL, the interactive golf league that will call the center home. That league is being led by golf legends Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, who both have homes in the region.

The structure is the second iteration of the arena, once imagined as an inflatable dome. Those original plans were scrapped when blustery weather and a power outage left the nascent dome in tatters. Construction on this steel and concrete arena began March 18 with the exterior due to be complete in early August, the spokesperson said.

The bones of the building — eight white pillars on three sides covered with slats of metal — stand tall over the tightly packed landscape of RCA Boulevard and PBSC’s north county campus.

Fatal plane crash: PBSO ID's men who died after aircraft landed in marsh near North County Airport

About 10 large cranes, dozens of crew members and a few security guards surround the site lined by pine trees.

When the exterior is finished, a team will install technology — which will include a 46-by-64-foot Jumbotron-type screen — in time for a rehearsal in mid-fall. The first match is set to be broadcasted on ESPN on Jan. 7, 2025, during prime time, the spokesperson said.

'Rust' armorer's lawyers push to get her released from prison in wake of dismissal of Alec Baldwin’s case

Convicted "Rust" armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed 's lawyers are asking the state of New Mexico to release her from prison in the wake of Alec Baldwin's case dismissal.

Jason Bowles filed a motion for a new trial or dismissal "for severe and ongoing discovery violations by the State" on Tuesday, according to court documents obtained by NBC News.

The court filing called the discovery violation revealed during Baldwin's trial last week "egregious."

"Rust" armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, center, talks with her attorney Jason Bowles, right, and her defense team at her involuntary manslaughter trial in Santa Fe, N.M., on March 5.

The motion for her release comes after Baldwin's criminal trial was dismissed in stunning fashion on Friday, when 1st Judicial District Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer found that special prosecutor Kari T. Morrissey had suppressed evidence pertaining to live ammunition in connection to the fatal 2021 on-set shooting that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

"There is no way for the court to right this wrong," Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer said during court. "The sanction of dismissal is the only warranted remedy."

The dismissal was with prejudice, meaning the involuntary manslaughter case against Baldwin cannot be filed again.

Baldwin’s lawyers asserted that the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office took possession of live rounds of ammunition as evidence but did not record them in the official case file or reveal their existence to the actor’s defense team.

Morrissey insisted the disputed ammunition was not linked to the case or hidden from Baldwin’s lawyers.

“I believe the importance of the evidence was misconstrued by the defense attorneys,” Morrissey told reporters outside the court.

In a separate trial in March, Reed was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and later sentenced to 18 months in prison.

In the filing, Bowles also calls for Morrissey to “be removed as Special Prosecutor for the misconduct that has been found, and the violations committed in Ms. Gutierrez Reed’s case.”

NBC News has reached out to Morrissey for comment.

In an interview last week, Bowles said, "The judge absolutely made the right decision on the law and on the facts. ... The judge found the state committed misconduct. A lot of emotions. I mean, seeing Mr. Baldwin, knowing what he was going through, knowing what Hannah Gutierrez-Reed is going through right now being in prison, and that the state has committed a pattern of violations of discovery ... it’s devastating."

Colorado’s Oddest Roadside Attractions

Connor mokrzycki, sometimes, it’s all about the random stuff you find along the way..

An open stretch of highway with the Rocky Mountains visible in the background, and a pale blue sky.

Colorado is chock-full of natural beauty, from stunning mountain ranges and gorgeous alpine lakes to red rock canyons and the vast plains in the east.

And in between those natural wonders, it’s also home to some of America’s most interesting, historic and outright bizarre roadside attractions. There’s no better time than summer to take to the open road and explore all that the Centennial State has to offer, so if you’re planning a road trip, here are five spots that you need to see along the way.

South Park Coney Island

South Park Coney Island pictured at a previous location in 1991

Coney Island by chi_cowboy, CC BY-SA 2.0

Since it first opened in 1966 on Colfax Avenue, the storied sausage-shaped diner has moved twice, all while earning its place in the hearts—and stomachs—of Coloradans.

Now located about 50 minutes from campus along Route 285 in the town of Bailey, the 42-foot-long hot dog stands in stark contrast to its surrounding spruce and pine trees. The hot dog stand’s name, South Park Coney Island, pays homage to the delicacy’s New York roots.

It’s a great spot to pull off the road for a quick bite to eat, whether you’re in the mood for a classic frank or a something with a bit of western flair. And on a hot day, the dog doubles as an ice cream stand.

Eldorado Springs Pool

Eldorado Pool with blue water

Eldorado Springs Pool by Dave Dugdale, CC BY-SA 2.0

The pool, a historic landmark, was originally built in 1906. It was one of the largest pools in the country at the time, legendary for its deep, spring-fed water and western décor. The adobe clad complex is styled to look like a fort. Despite remaining a popular summer destination throughout the decades, the pool and facilities fell into disrepair.

It’s been closed for major restoration and repairs since 2019, but it’s looking like the pool will reopen this summer.

Bishop Castle

An image the exterior of Bishop Castle from nearby

Three hours south of campus lays one of the strangest and most impressive buildings in all of Colorado.

A tower and roof-mounted dragon at Bishop Castle with blue sky in the background

Driving through the winding mountain roads of San Isabel National Forest, eventually you’ll stumble upon the towering Bishop Castle—Jim Bishop’s 44-year-long passion project. The three-story stone structure was built by hand, mostly out of locally acquired materials. What’s more impressive is that he did it by himself.

From the metallic dragon perched on the roof and stained glass artwork in the main chamber to the aerial bridge to nowhere and narrow winding passageways, Bishop Castle is an architectural wonder to behold—and explore. You’re allowed to make your way through the castle—including climbing the towers—at your own risk. If you’re not good with heights or not a fan of handmade iron railings and stairs that shake as you ascend them, perhaps stay on the ground level.

The UFO Watchtower

An exterior shot of the UFO Watchtower in the San Luis Valley, Colorado

UFO Watchtower by Plazak, CC BY-SA 3.0

Are we alone in the universe?

While the science might not be settled, plenty of people in Colorado swear they’ve seen something strange in the night sky. Head down to the San Luis Valley—far from Denver’s notorious light pollution—and you might just have your own extraterrestrial encounter.

The UFO Watchtower, about three and a half hours south of campus near Alamosa, is a cattle ranch turned observatory and campground. With an eye to the sky, numerous visitors have reported seeing unidentified flying objects there.

Surrounded by miles of nothing, the UFO Watchtower sticks out from the terrain, with a raised viewing platform and alien-themed sculpture garden.

It might be a bit too far for a day trip, but it’s worth a stop if you’re on the road to Taos or the nearby Great Sand Dunes National Park. If you’re in the area, Colorado Gators Reptile Park, a reptile rescue, is another nearby oddity that is worth a visit.

Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad (and the Indiana Jones B&B):

The Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad blowing steam and smoke

Cumbres & Toltec by Larry Lamsa, CC BY 2.0

Explore Colorado long enough and you’ll inevitably stumble upon sights that seem like they’re straight out of an adventure movie. And it turns out, scenes from one of the all-time greatest adventure films, “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade,” were filmed right here in the Centennial State.

In Antonito, just north of the New Mexico border, lays a historic train station, home to the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad, where a young Indiana Jones escapes a band of graverobbers in the 1989 film. The railroad, which was originally built in 1890, travels through more than 60 miles of Colorado and New Mexico wilderness and ascends to the highest elevation reached by any steam locomotive in the U.S.

The train runs from May to October, with options to depart from New Mexico or Colorado. And if you end up in Antonito, another spot from the classic movie, Indiana’s childhood home, is still there, now operating as an Indiana Jones-themed bed and breakfast. Also nearby is Cano Castle, another architectural oddity constructed mainly of old beer cans and scrap metal. Unlike Bishop Castle, visitors are not welcome, but its metallic construction and fantastical design make it worth stopping to see.

Daily Summary

Updated July 17

As of Wednesday, there are 28 large or notable new fires burning across the Western United States, fueled by hot, dry and windy conditions in many areas.

Fewer fires recently have dominated headlines compared with past fire seasons. But the seasons start earlier and last longer now, and officials in several states have warned that hot and dry weather — combined in some cases with lightning — could mean many more fires could ignite in the coming days or weeks.

Methodology.

The map includes active and recent fires reported by the Wildland Fire Interagency Geospatial Services Group. The locations of the fires on the map are approximate, derived from data reported by the NASA FIRMS satellite-based fire detection system, which makes observations several times a day. Areas marked in red indicate where active burning was detected within 24 hours of the most recent fires reflected on the map. The exact boundary of a fire may differ from the extent shown on the map by 500 meters or more.

Air quality data is derived from PurpleAir sensors. Colored squares show levels of particulate matter in the air that average 2.5 microns or smaller in diameter where sensor data is available within a 10-mile radius of each square’s position. Readings have been adjusted to account for the properties of wood smoke. The quality levels are based on the Air Quality Index developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Population counts are rounded estimates. Totals are calculated using 2020 nighttime estimates from the Landscan , a population database generated by Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
