Recently viewed, grading system.

Every item in our inventory has been inspected, very strictly graded, and bagged for its protection.

Shrink Wrapped. Still in the original factory shrink wrap, with condition visible through shrink noted. For example, "SW (NM)" means shrink wrapped in near-mint condition.

Perfect. Brand new.

Near Mint. Like new with only the slightest wear, many times indistinguishable from a Mint item. Close to perfect, very collectible. Board & war games in this condition will show very little to no wear and are considered to be punched unless the condition note says unpunched.

Excellent. Lightly used, but almost like new. May show very small spine creases or slight corner wear. Absolutely no tears and no marks, a collectible condition.

Very Good. Used. May have medium-sized creases, corner dings, minor tears or scuff marks, small stains, etc. Complete and very useable.

Very well used, but complete and useable. May have flaws such as tears, pen marks or highlighting, large creases, stains, marks, etc.

  • Boxed items are listed as "code/code" where the first code represents the box, and the second code describes the contents. When only one condition is listed, then the box and contents are in the same condition.
  • A "plus" sign indicates that an item is close to the next highest condition. Example, EX+ is an item between Excellent and Near Mint condition. A "minus" sign indicates the opposite.
  • Major defects and/or missing components are noted separately.
  • Boardgame counters are punched, unless noted. Due to the nature of loose counters, if a game is unplayable it may be returned for a refund of the purchase price.
  • In most cases, boxed games and box sets do not come with dice.
  • The cardboard backing of miniature packs is not graded. If excessively worn, they will be marked as "card worn."
  • Flat trays for SPI games are not graded, and have the usual problems. If excessively worn, they will be marked as "tray worn."
  • Remainder Mark - A remainder mark is usually a small black line or dot written with a felt tip pen or Sharpie on the top, bottom, side page edges and sometimes on the UPC symbol on the back of the book. Publishers use these marks when books are returned to them.

If you have any questions or comments regarding grading or anything else, please send e-mail to [email protected] .

Game Information

Even more slippery are the rules. They're short but after a read through, I have no clue how the game works. So I pull out all the components, set up a game, and try again. Still, nothing. In the end, I'm reduced to watching an explanation on YouTube. It's actually pretty simple, but with mechanics as odd as the components, it's small wonder it's tough to describe. Essentially the chips are set up in four stacks of three, representing a lock. Each has a double-sided mechanism chip sandwiched between two failsafe chips. So you can't see what mechanism is where, nor which way up it is. Your job is to crack the lock by finding out what's hidden and rearranging the stacks so they match a predetermined sequence. Having been so baffled by the rules at first, I start with the solo game. This puts in me in an indistinct but interesting Steampunk setting, trying to work my way through a series of lockboxes in a mysterious station. In the first of four challenges, each with a narrative frame, I line up a given sequence of mechanisms before all the failsafe discs get removed. It's all done with the dice, so I pick them up and go to it. You can take the two actions you roll, things like peeking at mechanisms or flipping stacks, or trade them both in for one of your choice. My first roll lets me peek underneath two failsafes, and remove another. Choosing which stacks to look at is easy: of the for on the board, one is in a "hidden" area and you can't interact with it. Still, I can now work out where all the symbols I need are. They're in the wrong order, of course, and one is upside-down. At the end of the turn, all the stacks move along one space and one failsafe gets removed. So the hidden one swings back into play, replaced by the next stack in sequence. As I reach out and slide them along the slick mouse-mat surface, feeling the discs wobble and click beneath my fingers, there's a sudden thrill. It feels, quite literally and physically, like picking a lock. Groping into the unknown, sensing the tumblers shifting and snapping into place. Unlike picking a real lock, there's a big memory element here. You might presume it was easy enough to track four discs. But because they're double-sided, you kind of have to track eight. And they move each turn. I try to line up the complex dance in my head, tapping them and muttering their contents over and over. With a failsafe coming off each turn, showing the mechanism to the world, it's not too hard. A couple of turns of sliding and flipping later, I have the right symbols in the right order. The second scenario is the same. Except this time, no failsafes come off and you're on an eight-turn time limit. Seeing as it's the same problem I dive right in and smash my head on the rocks. With all failsafes in place, the memory challenge is much harder. Symbols leap around my brain as I try to recall what's where what way up, and how I can work around the one in the hidden area. After six turns I'm confident I've done it, so I flip the failsafe on the very first stack and immediately see I've failed. Still, it's enough to try to teach the two-player game to someone. That proves easy, the rules flowing more smoothly from mouth and demonstrating fingers than the written rules. In this version of the game, we make more use of those glittery, slippery cards. Around each edge, they show different symbol sequences, the harder ones worth more points. I have to choose which I'm going for, so I pick one of medium difficulty and hide it face down. This time, the lock doesn't move stacks by itself. Instead, that's my opponent's job. She begins to flip and rotate those lovely pieces. And within a couple of turns that ballet of plastic is far more confusing than the predictable patterns of the solo scenarios. We're playing a tug of war with poker chips, pummeling the pieces like the tangible stand-ins of a battle of wills. It's compelling, absorbing and feels absolutely impossible. As if that wasn't enough, there are mind games, too. On my second turn, I roll a card action, meaning I can flip or rotate a card instead of a stack. What do I do? Change my objective on the fly, or mess with hers. Obviously, it's the latter. But as my fingers close over her card, I hesitate. I remember that in the deck there are trap cards, too. They go off when certain conditions get met - like getting flipped - and buff their owner. The card's owner offers an enigmatic smile as if reading my thoughts. The chances at are low, and that looks like a bluff, so I go ahead and flip. Naturally, it's a trap. She smirks and scoops the reward, an extra card. I curse, suck my burnt fingers, and we carry on. Despite the trap, I win. It's taken such a short time that a reset is inevitable. Soon, we're probing and pushing our tools, feeling our way around the lock. This time we make more use of our character's special powers. Each turn you can either use this or place a marker on the board, sliding toward extra actions or points. It's an extra piece of strategy atop the mechanical puzzle. We forget that you can swap your rolled actions to pick one and keep rolling failsafe removal. As a result, the mechanisms are quickly revealed and the game becomes a whole lot less interesting. It's an unfortunate flaw, but one that seems unlikely to get repeated often. In solo games since, I have still been unable to beat all four scenarios. After playing I lie in bed and half-remembered bits of order and orientation flash across my dreams, glittering like the card backs. Yet still I keep sticking my fingers into that lock, wanting the feel of those pieces, turning them over, trying to force them to my will. But, like trying to pick a real lock, force is no substitute for skill and the sweet promise of well-earned achievement.

  • Does The Game Steward offer Free Shipping?
  • Yes, see details here   📦 Shipping
  • Does TheGameSteward sell games in languages other than English?
  • No, currently TheGameSteward sells games only in English.
  • What is a pre-order vs a regular or in-stock order?
  • A pre-order is when you order your game prior to the publisher releasing the game.  A pre-order will be fulfilled and shipped once the game publisher has shipped the game to us, TheGameSteward.  Then we will ship game to you.  A regular order is a game already physically in-stock at TheGameSteward.
  • Why purchase a pre-order?  Why not wait until the game is in-stock.
  • Purchasing a game on pre-order is useful if the game is popular and likely to sell out prior to arriving in-stock.  (This happens quite frequently.)  At TheGameSteward, we often have customers looking to purchase a game after it is in stock only to find out there are none available for sale.  When you purchase a game pre-order , TheGameSteward reserves units in your name that no one else can buy.
  • How does TheGameSteward 'ship for value'?
  • To save you money, if you order multiple games where some or all of the items are pre-order , TheGameSteward will bundle your items until they are all available in-stock and ship them together.  This saves you money on shipping.
  • If, however, you wish to receive some or all your items individually as they arrive in-stock, simply fill out separate orders/checkout payments for each - or let us know where you'd like to have an order broken up and pay for separate shipping.  In this way, each will have its own computed shipping and will be shipped as soon as it arrives.
  • Are TheGameSteward prices discounted?
  • All pre-order games on TheGameSteward are  early bird special  discount prices.  TheGameSteward does not mark games at regular price until they arrive in-stock .
  • TheGameSteward also has items on-sale  or discounted off manufacturer's suggested retail price ( MSRP ) where MSRP is available.  Note: MSRP is not always available, such as on the Kickstarter versions of games.
  • What are Kickstarter board games vs retail board games?
  • Kickstarter is a funding site where people post projects for crowds to fund (aka 'to back') the creation of a new item or project.  Asking the public to fund/back projects in this way is known as crowdfunding.  One subcategory of Kickstarter is the crowdfunding of board games.  These board games are referred to as Kickstarter Board Games .
  • The Kickstarter version of board games often include extra game items to thank and incentivize people to fund/back a Kickstarter project and help it become a completed physical game.  These extras include:  Stretch Goals -  additional items for the board games' backers, and sometimes  Kickstarter Exclusives -  additional items  for  the board games' backers that will not go into the standard retail board games.
  • TheGameSteward is a very different kind of game store.  TheGameSteward helps actually bring games to market that might not otherwise get funded.  TheGameSteward pays/funds/backs Kickstarter Board Game projects months and/or years before the actual game exists physically and ships for sale in-stock.  (In comparison, many other game shops standard model is not to pay for games until a month after they already receive the game in-stock.)  In this way and with your help as customers, TheGameSteward has helped insure the successful funding of hundreds of Kickstarter Games coming to market and will continue to do so.
  • What are responsibilities during and after delivery?
  • The Game Steward is responsible for delivery of your order at your requested delivery address.  Games sold by The Game Steward are typically limited edition items that are non-replaceable.  Once delivery of your order at your shipping address is documented / completed by the shipping company employed by The Game Steward, you accept full responsibility for securing your order.
  • Ding&Dent
  • Games in our store identified as Ding&Dent, unless otherwise noted on the game listing, have visible, cosmetic damage to the game box. This may include dinged corners and/or edges, scratches, scuffs, or other significant visible imperfections, as well as split corners and/or minor tears. Although The Game Steward cannot open every game to verify the condition of all game contents, we have made reasonable efforts to ensure that game components are complete and unaffected. All Ding&Dent items are sold ‘as is’ and all sales are final. No refunds or exchanges.

The Game Steward makes every effort to provide the best quality of shipping to you and all customers.  As part of that effort, we provided (below) a list of helpful answers to many shipping questions.

  • Free Shipping   means The Game Steward will offer to ship your order to you for free.  This offer is generally for orders over $99 US Dollars within the 48 contiguous United States. Free shipping will use US Priority Mail, Fedex Ground, Fedex Smartpost, UPS Ground, or other major courier services.  We can not guarantee your order will arrive in 5 days or less, but most packages arrive in 5 business days or less.  If time is a factor for you, please consider selecting an expedited shipping option at checkout.
  • Orders which include multiple items will be shipped in a single box where possible.  If the order is too large to fit in a single box, we will ship your order in multiple boxes (at our discretion), at no additional charge.
  • When an order includes   pre-orde r   items and   in-stock   items, the   in-stock   items will be held in reserve until all items are present in our warehouse, and can be shipped together.  This may result in your   in-stock   games being held for several months.
  • If a combined order of   in-stock   items and   pre-order   items is expected to be delayed by more than 1 month, The Game Steward may (at our discretion) offer customers the option to have   in-stock   items shipped right away for an additional shipping fee.
  • Order responsibility after delivery.  The Game Steward is responsible for delivery of your order to your requested delivery address.  The games we sell are typically limited edition items that are non-replaceable.  By placing your order   you agree to accept responsibility for the care and storage of your order after delivery is completed to your shipping address . In other words, once the package is documented as delivered by the shipping service, your contract for products and services with The Game Steward is complete.
  • If you have any concerns that your package may be stolen after it is delivered, we highly recommend that you request special handling instructions  at the time you place your order , such as a signature requirement, a hold at the local courier facility, or have the package delivered to your office address.  These services may incur an additional charge to you.  Finally, we cannot guarantee that changes to the delivery instructions will be possible after we've receive your order and tendered it to the shipping service.
  • On rare occasions, the publisher of a Kickstarter game will split fulfillment of a game, resulting in multiple shipping   waves .  This often results in the delay of delivery for a portion of the Kickstarter contents offered for sale.  When this occurs, The Game Steward will hold your order until all items are shipped to us by the publisher.  The Game Steward, at its discretion, may offer you the option to have each   wave   of contents shipped to you as they arrive for an additional fee.
  • If a Kickstarter game arrives to our warehouse 30 days or more after you place your   pre-order , The Game Steward will require confirmation of your current mailing address.    We will not ship an order more than 30 days old without affirmative confirmation of your current mailing address.   Please make sure to notify us when you move, so that we can update your address in our records, and avoid any delays in shipping your game.  We will attempt to contact you by e-mail and/or phone at least three times.  If we do not receive a confirmation within 72 hours of our third attempt, we reserve the right to cancel your order and release the item(s) to make them available on our store for sale again. If the pre-order is less than 180 days old, we will issue a full refund via the same payment method used to place the order (i.e. credit card, PayPal, Amazon Pay, etc.). For orders placed 180 days or more prior to cancellation, we will issue store credit. Customers, with pre-orders cancelled in this manner, may still receive a full refund in lieu of store credit upon written request and confirmation that the payment method on record is still valid.
  • The Game Steward affirms that it will only ship an order to the address we have on record for your order.  If the address provided by you is old, incomplete, or incorrect, The Game Steward will not accept responsibility for lost package(s).  If the package is returned to us, you will be responsible for any additional shipping charges.
  • The Game Steward takes great care to ship each package with appropriate packing material to avoid damage while in transit.  However, accidents do happen, and packages can receive rough treatment.  if you receive an item that has been damaged in any way, please contact us right away.  We may ask for photos of the damage to help determine the appropriate course of action.  At our discretion, this may include (but is not limited to) accepting returns for a full refund, offering a partial refund if you decide to keep the game, or offering a replacement copy.
  • For International orders,  buyers are responsible for all taxes, fees, customs, and/or tariffs that may apply.   The Game Steward is a small business, and we have no knowledge or expertise of taxes or fees imposed by (or in) other countries.  It is the buyer's responsibility to understand the appropriate laws and shipper policies that may apply, and what taxes or fees may be incurred by purchasing an item from The Game Steward.
  • For International orders, The Game Steward will fill out the customs form with accurate information regarding the sale price of game(s) sold.   No deviations from the accurate amount and no exceptions.
  • The Game Steward ships all orders with online tracking numbers.  Our e-commerce system automatically sends an e-mail with tracking information when a package ships as a courtesy to you.  However, The Game Steward takes no responsibility if you do not receive a tracking #.  If you don't receive a tracking #, and you are concerned about when your package will be delivered, it is your responsibility to contact us and request one.  This is especially true for International Orders.  If a package is returned to us because you do not pick it up at your local post office/customs office/etc., we will charge the actual cost of postage to ship it again.
  • The Game Steward makes every effort to ship a game in a timely manner.  Our commitment to you is to ship an   in-stock   game within three business days of receiving your order.    However , there may be occasions when we are unable to meet this goal due to heavy workload or other circumstances.  We do not accept any liability for a delay in shipping your order.  For orders in which the customer selects an expedited shipping option at checkout, we will make every effort to ship the game the same day, or within one business day.
  • The Game Steward makes every effort to fulfill pre-ordered Kickstarter games as timely as possible.  However, we   cannot   control when a publisher will fulfill our order.  As a matter of experience, we have learned that our orders tend to ship toward the end of the Kickstarter fulfillment period.  If the knowledge that your friends who backed a Kickstarter campaign may receive their game several days or weeks before you do, you may want to reconsider ordering from The Game Steward.
  • Once a game arrives in our warehouse, it takes some time for us to process the order and prepare   pre-orders   to ship out.  This may take anywhere from 1 business day to 2 weeks, depending on the size of our order, the number of components needed to be shipped, and the number of   pre-orders   to fulfill.   Accordingly, we cannot make any guarantees about how soon your order will ship once a game arrives in our warehouse.

After Purchase and Before Shipping

  • We offer a full money back guarantee on all orders prior to the date of shipment.
  • We can only issue refunds to active accounts used to pay for the purchase in question.  If that account is subsequently closed for any reason, then a refund cannot be issued.  In that event, we will offer store credit instead.

Special Note Re: Pre-Orders More Than 6 Months Old:

  • Due to PayPal policies, refunds on pre-orders more than 180 days old must be issued manually.  This requires that customers verify the correct e-mail address linked to their PayPal account.  Without customer verification, we cannot issue a refund for pre-orders more than 180 days old.

Special Note Re: Orders Paid From a PayPal Business Account

  • Due to Changes in PayPal Policies, if you pay for an order with a PayPal Business Account, orders cancelled more than 180 days after the purchase date will have standard PayPal fees applied to the refund, thus reducing the total amount refunded.   Please note that we have no control over this.  This ONLY applies to refunds for pre-orders more than 180 days old.  Nevertheless, if you wish to ensure that you receive a full refund under all circumstances, we highly recommend making your purchase from a personal account, or use another payment option, such as a credit card or Amazon Pay.

After Purchase and After Delivery

  • Damaged Goods   - If a game arrives damaged, just contact us within 30 days from date of receipt of items.  At a minimum, we will offer a full refund if you decide to return the game.  At our discretion, we may also  offer a partial refund if you decide to keep the game, or offer a replacement copy in exchange for the damaged copy.   We will pay for return shipping and send you a return shipping label to use if you choose to return the game, or we agree to exchange the game with a replacement copy.
  • Defective Parts  - If your game has a production defect   just contact us within 30 days from date of receipt of item , we'll send you replacement pieces/parts if available.  If not available in our inventory, we'll work with the manufacturer on your behalf to obtain replacement pieces/parts which we will ship at our expense.
  • Incorrect Goods   - If you receive a wrong order,  just contact us within 30 days from date of receipt of items to receive a full refund on the price of the item or replacement if available.  We will pay for  return shipping and send you a return shipping label to use.
  • Changed your mind  - If you simply decide you no longer want the game, just contact us within 30 days from date of receipt of items to receive a refund on the price of the game for unopened and undamaged merchandise.  We will deduct the cost of the return shipping label from the refund amount and send you a return shipping label.
  • Products Returned After the Prescribed Period   - we do not guarantee refunds or shipping on returns after the 30 days of receipt of the items.  We will, however, work with customers on a case by case basis.

Please note

  • By placing your order you accept responsibility to receive delivery of your order at your designated shipping address.
  • For any Return or Refund requests, please email us at  [email protected] .

Prince Harry to return to London for Invictus Games anniversary

By Lucia Suarez Sang

April 28, 2024 / 1:23 PM EDT / CBS News

Prince Harry is expected to return to the United Kingdom for the first time since he made a quick trip to visit his father King Charles III after his cancer diagnosis became public earlier this year, the prince and Invictus Games Foundation announced Sunday.

The Duke of Sussex will attend the thanksgiving service for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games Foundation in London on May 8.

The prince will give a reading during the service at St. Paul's Cathedral while actor Damian Lewis will recite a poem. It was not immediately clear if Harry's wife, Meghan Markle, would be making the trip from California, where they live with their two children.

The prince first created the Invictus Games, a sporting event for military personnel wounded in action, in 2014, when the first event took place in London.

The ceremony next month will mark a "decade of changing lives and saving lives through sport," a spokesperson for the Invictus Games said.

The news of the prince's visit to London comes two days after Buckingham Palace confirmed that King Charles III will resume public engagements next week . The palace said the king had made sufficient progress in his cancer treatment and that doctors were "very encouraged by the progress made so far and remain positive about the King's continued recovery."

Harry made a quick visit to his father's Clarence House residence in central London in February, a day after news broke of the king's diagnosis.

Harry spoke with his father about the cancer diagnosis before leaving the U.S., Buckingham Palace said. The king personally informed both of his sons, Harry and William, the Prince of Wales, and his siblings, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward, about his health.

Charles' health diagnosis is not the only troubling health news for the family: About a month after the king disclosed his cancer treatment, his daughter-in-law Catherine, the Princess of Wales also known as Kate Middleton,  announced that she was undergoing preventative chemotherapy  following abdominal surgery in January. Harry and Meghan issued a statement after Kate's health disclosure saying they "we wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace," and People magazine reported they privately reached out to her.

THE STATION: EPILOGUE

With all mechanisms in their correct order, there was a satisfying “Click” that came from the box and a small button lit up on the key panel. Before anyone could do the honors of pressing it, voices bouncing off the corridor walls revealed that they were no longer alone in the Station. For the first time since her confident appearance outside the building, The Stranger paused, exposing the fact that this was something she hadn’t planned on.

Charlie spotted the hesitation and immediately took charge. “That panel over there is connected to the main steam line and boilers. Flip the right switch to turn on the emergency venting. Scalding steam should slow them down a bit,” she said with a satisfied smile. She was just getting started. “I assume we will want another route for our escape, and preferably one that puts us on the other side of the station,” she assessed while running her hand along a reddish pipe that looked much newer than the others. “This was installed just last year. There’s bound to be temporary wooden stairways running alongside at least till it reaches Rail 3, then we have some options. I’d recommend continuing upward and leaving through the coal shoot doors.”

As she looked back at the room, Charlie realized everyone, including The Stranger, was staring at her. She’d been fairly quiet up to this point so no one knew this was her stomping grounds. Any favor she could garner with this group might turn into support for her revolution when all this was over, so she kept it friendly. “Stick close, I know things,” she said playfully as she gave a little curtsy to the group.

As if on cue, the box gave a loud electrical POP! that sent sparks in all directions. Everyone hit the floor with heads covered. Before questions could form on people’s lips, The Stranger was back in action as if no pause had even taken place. Casually walking up to the box, she pressed the blinking button.

Will Messi play at Gillette Stadium? New England hosts Inter Miami: Here’s the latest

trip lock game

Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez are making the trip to New England, but will they play in Saturday night’s soccer match against the Revolution?

Lingering concerns about the field surface at Gillette Stadium have raised doubt about whether they will play. Messi, who played on turf at Charlotte last year, appears more likely. Suárez, who has chronic knee issues, could be another story.

Messi is second in MLS with seven goals scored, while Suarez is tied for third with three other players who have scored six goals. Inter Miami also enters the New England match ranked first in the MLS Eastern Conference and needing to accumulate as many points as possible before Messi departs for Copa America 2024 with Argentina this summer.

“The players are all available. They are all able to travel. And, well, then we will see the formation to face New England,” Inter Miami coach Tata Martino said Friday without revealing his lineup.

“We have already played in Charlotte, which was artificial, last year," he continued, adding it wasn’t a problem then for the club and its players.

At least 64,000 fans are expected in attendance Saturday , which will likely set a team record for the Revolution, and potentially be one of the top three most attended soccer matches in Gillette Stadium’s 23-year history.

How to watch New England vs. Inter Miami live stream

Inter Miami faces the New England Revolution at 7:30 p.m. ET Saturday night. The game will be streamed via  MLS Season Pass on Apple TV .

More on New England’s playing surface before Inter Miami game

The soccer playing surface at Gillette Stadium is the same field used by the New England Patriots for NFL games and similar to the turf Messi played on in Charlotte, a Revolution team spokesman told USA TODAY Sports earlier this week.

"Same high-quality surface you’ll find at stadiums like Portland, Seattle, Charlotte – where Messi did play 90 minutes on the same type of surface," the spokesman said.

“All of my lower leagues, I’ve always played on turf,”  Messi said last August . “That was a long time ago, and it’s been a long time since I played on synthetic turf. But I have no problem adapting to turf again.”

Inter Miami is relatively healthy for New England match

Messi’s Barcelona sidekick Jordi Alba will miss his second straight game due to a right hamstring injury. Midfielder Diego Gomez will miss the next six weeks with an ankle sprain. And midfielder Federico Redondo is still a month away from returning from a knee injury. Otherwise, Inter Miami is healthier than it’s been in a while.

Messi will play in his fifth consecutive game since returning from a hamstring injury that kept him out March 13-April 6. Midfielder Benjamin Cremaschi also returned to the lineup to play sparingly in the last two games after sports hernia surgery. His presence, along with newly signed midfielder Matias Rojas, should help in Gomez’s absence. Strikers Leo Campana and Robert Taylor could return from hamstring injuries to play New England.

Asked how he feels about his team with some players returning from injury, Martino joked: "I’d like to start the 'ConcaChampions' tournament again."

Inter Miami was eliminated by Monterrey, which lost 2-1 to MLS Cup champions Columbus Crew earlier this week in the first of two matches in the Concacaf Champions Cup semifinal.

Inter Miami upcoming schedule

Here are the next five Inter Miami matches after visiting New England:

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are headed to Nigeria!

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have accepted an invitation to visit the country in May on behalf of its Chief of Defense Staff, the highest-ranking military official, PEOPLE confirms.

On May 8, Harry, 39, will attend the Invictus Games' 10th anniversary celebration at St. Paul's Cathedral in London. Soon after, he will be joined by Meghan, 42, in Nigeria.

During their visit, the couple will meet with service members and will take part in a variety of cultural activities.

The visit will highlight Harry's Invictus Games, which welcomed 500 athletes at last year's event in Germany, with 21 nations in attendance, including Nigeria. Nigeria, along with Colombia and Israel, were new entrants at the Invictus Games last year.

The Minister of Defense, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar Badaru, who attended last year's event in Germany, has expressed willingness to host the games should Nigeria be granted the opportunity.

Chris Jackson/Getty

In a statement, Brig Gen Tukur Vusau, Acting Director of Defence Information in Nigeria, said: “The visit is to consolidate Nigeria's strong hold at the game and the possibility of hosting the event in later years."

During last year's Invictus Games in Düsseldorf, Germany, Meghan and Harry spent time with the Nigerian team, whom Harry said his wife was supporting during  his opening speech .

"Now, I'm not saying we play favorites in our home, but since my wife discovered she's of Nigerian descent, it's likely to get a little bit more competitive this year," he joked.

In 2022, the Duchess of Sussex revealed on her podcast Archetypes that she had learned she was  43% Nigerian  following a genealogy test.

Harry and Meghan posed for a photo with Team Nigeria and the national flag, and the squad presented them with a plaque from the Chief of Defense — plus a new nickname for Meghan.

The Duchess of Sussex received the name “Amira Ngozi Lolo,” which bears a royal meaning. Amira is the name of a warrior princess from a legend, while Ngozi means "blessed" and Lolo means "royal wife."

Blinken Tours China to Promote Some Ties, While the U.S. Severs Others

Tensions over economic ties are running high, threatening to disrupt a fragile cooperation between the U.S. and China.

American officials, wearing dark suits, walk through a street at night in Shanghai.

By Ana Swanson

Ana Swanson covers trade and U.S.-China economic ties and is traveling with Secretary Blinken in China.

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken cheered on the sidelines at a basketball game in Shanghai on Wednesday night, and spent Thursday chatting with students at New York University’s Shanghai campus and meeting American business owners. It all went to emphasize the kind of economic, educational and cultural ties that the United States is pointedly holding up as beneficial for both countries.

But hanging over those pleasantries during his visit to China this week are several steps the U.S. is taking to sever economic ties in areas where the Biden administration says they threaten American interests. And those will be the focus of greater attention from Chinese officials, as well.

Even as the Biden administration tries to stabilize the relationship with China, it is advancing several economic measures that would curb China’s access to the U.S. economy and technology. It is poised to raise tariffs on Chinese steel , solar panels and other crucial products to try to protect American factories from cheap imports. It is weighing further restrictions on China’s access to advanced semiconductors to try to keep Beijing from developing sophisticated artificial intelligence that could be used on the battlefield.

This week, Congress also passed legislation that would force ByteDance, the Chinese owner of TikTok, to sell its stake in the app within nine to 12 months or leave the United States altogether. The president signed it on Wednesday, though the measure is likely to be challenged in court.

Mr. Blinken’s visit, which was expected to take him to Beijing on Friday for high-level government meetings, had a much more cordial tone than on the trip he made to China last year. That trip was the first after a Chinese spy balloon traveled across the United States, tipping the American public into an uproar.

In a meeting with the Shanghai Communist Party secretary Thursday morning, Mr. Blinken said direct engagement between the U.S. and China was both valuable and necessary.

“We have an obligation for our people — indeed an obligation to the world — to manage the relationship between our two countries responsibly,” he said.

Speaking to students at the N.Y.U.’s Shanghai campus later that morning, he said the educational exchanges the students were engaged in provided a “ballast” for a complicated and confrontational relationship.

Since President Biden met with the Chinese leader, Xi Jinping, in California in November, the U.S.-China relationship has seemed more stable, with nothing like the dramatic ups and downs of the trade spats under former President Donald J. Trump.

But the Biden administration has still been marching toward a more restrictive economic relationship with China.

That includes controls on semiconductor technology, which are being raised by both sides as a more prominent issue than ever before. The Biden administration has been weighing further export controls, particularly on factories that have been helping produce advanced semiconductors for the Chinese tech giant Huawei.

“By explicitly trying to degrade Chinese tech capabilities, especially on advanced AI, the United States has moved export controls to the forefront of the U.S.-China agenda,” said Emily Benson, a trade expert at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a Washington think tank.

In a call between Mr. Biden and Mr. Xi earlier this month, both leaders raised the technology controls as matters of central importance.

Mr. Biden emphasized that the United States would continue to take necessary actions to prevent advanced American technologies from being used to undermine its own national security, without unduly limiting trade and investment, according to the White House.

Mr. Xi said that putting new sanctions on China was not “de-risking,” but creating risks. If the United States was bent on “containing China’s hi-tech development and depriving China of its legitimate right to development, China is not going to sit back and watch,” he said, according to the official Xinhua News Agency.

U.S. officials say their restrictions are necessary given China’s authoritarian government and statist economic model. But the moves have rankled Chinese leaders and pushed tensions over economic measures to their highest point in years.

The measures are not just emanating from the U.S. government: Susan Shirk, the author of “Overreach: How China Derailed Its Peaceful Rise,” said that China had pivoted toward a more self-sufficient industrial policy, and has been seeking to supplant the United States as a high-tech superpower under Mr. Xi.

“Xi openly acknowledges that while he wants China to be less dependent on other countries, he wants to keep other countries dependent on China ‘as a powerful countermeasure and deterrent’ as he put it, ‘against them cutting off supply,’” Ms. Shirk said.

China, too, has allowed security concerns to affect a greater proportion of its economy, even as Mr. Xi and other Chinese leaders have tried to reassure foreign businesses that their investment is welcome. A new national security law has extended Beijing’s reach into Hong Kong, threatening the city’s status as a financial hub. American executives have been alarmed by China’s investigations of foreign firms, as well as the country’s broader rules against sharing data and information with foreigners.

Despite China’s complaints about the U.S. government’s efforts to crack down on TikTok, China itself has for decades banned other Western social media services. Apple said last week that Beijing had ordered it to remove WhatsApp and Threads from app stores in China.

Mr. Blinken and other U.S. officials have emphasized that American export controls, sanctions and other restrictions being imposed on Chinese tech companies apply to only a small fraction of the broader U.S.-China relationship. Elsewhere, trade is encouraged, they say.

In a report this week, the U.S.-China Business Council, a group of 270 American companies that do business in China, estimated that U.S. exports to China supported more than 900,000 American jobs in 2022, though goods exports fell in 2023 due to China’s lackluster economy, U.S. tariffs and other factors.

“It is important for us to remind U.S. lawmakers and those in influential positions that every state and congressional district in the U.S. maintains its own economic and trade relationship with China, and changes in U.S.-China trade policy should be considered very carefully,” said Craig Allen, the group’s president.

  15. Triplock Review

Triplock is a game about picking locks, about the aeons-old practice that requires deft and nimble fingers, patience, and delicacy. In Triplock you'll find none of these things, except the patience required to see the game through to the end. In fact, pretty much everything I would expect to feature in a game about locking picking is absent here.
