We’ve spent a quarter of the year indoors, and if you're anything like us, you've got some catching up to do when it comes to big nights out. So, why not spend your last hoorah of the year in the company of Sydney's greatest icons, the Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House, on a New Year's cruise?

We’ve curated a list of the best you can book right now to secure the well-earned fun you and your mates deserve. Most of the cruise experiences come inclusive of food and drink, so all you need to worry about is having a damn good time.

Starship Sydney

Behold Australia’s largest glass boat, Starship Sydney. Spend your whole NYE on board, indulging in an all-inclusive evening of canapes, cocktails, Australian beers and premium wines, and three entertainment levels, which includes two decks of DJs. Starship Sydney offers an excellent view of the midnight fireworks display, departing from King Street Wharf at 7.30pm and returning at 1am. Tickets are on sale now from $750 per person.

Harbourside Cruises

All aboard the Harbour Spirit, a luxury catamaran that you can hop on for NYE this year. Equipped with gorgeous contemporary interiors and two spacious decks, this 5.5 hour Sydney Harbour party cruise serves up epic views of the fireworks from inside and outside the boat. Guests can expect to take up the Azure Deck, which is a private third-level area hosting only 60 people (max comfort guaranteed). A deluxe 5-course seated dinner will be served, with premium beverages available for the entire night, alongside a DJ and dancing—the way we all want to enter the new year, right? Tickets are $850 per person.

Fast Ferry Cruises

NYE doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg. Which, most of the time it does. If you want to jump on a New Year’s Eve cruise without spending more than a few hundred, choose Fast Ferry Cruises. Starting at $200 per person, these shorter 2.5hr cruises are BYO food and drinks and run for either the 9 pm or midnight fireworks, departing from Manly, Rose Bay, or Darling Harbour.

Le Bleu

If you’re an avid fan of electronic dance music and are ready to spend NYE with banging tunes and boogies, you can’t go past a ride on Le Bleu. The night features an exclusive DJ set from BINARY and Alvin Chan and the best possible views of the fireworks, which means you’ll be starting 2022 off with a big bang (and not just ‘cos of the fireworks). Bella Vista New Year’s Eve Cruise

All for $499 per person, departing from King Street Wharf at 7.30 pm and returning at 1 am.

Aussie Magic New Year’s Eve Cruise

Step into the new year in style on board Aussie Magic, a stylish 26-metre catamaran with a super spacious outdoor entertaining deck. Catch jaw-dropping views of the midnight fireworks after enjoying a night of cocktail style dining—canapes, buffet, free-flowing drinks, which are all included in the $650 per person price. Your skipper will have to follow NSW Maritime Safety Authority guidelines of places available to anchor on New Years Eve. There will be multiple barges lighting fireworks simultaneously so the best spots are where you can see a way down the harbour. Our favourite places are Farm Cove, near the Botanical Gardens, and Shark Island near Rose Bay where you can see all the way down the harbour.

There are many wharves in Sydney that charter boat can pick up from. New Years Eve is a highly scheduled night for skippers. All wharves need to be pre booked so that people can embark and disembark with minimal wait times. You will be allocated a set time slot for your group to board your charter on New Years Eve. If you book your charter early, you will have much wider choices for pick up wharf options on Sydney Harbour.

There are some boats that do allow you to stay overnight on request. Charter boats have restrictions to the amount of people who can stay overnight. If a boat can hold 20 persons, it may only allow 4 people to stay overnight for example. Please ask us if you would like a quote for this option.

1. Don’t delay, book as soon as possible. Boats start booking from the day after New Years Eve and prices can change. Book early to save both disappointment and dollars. 2. Book extra time on board if possible so that you can start early and get the best vantage spot and find it easier to find parking near the pick up wharf. 3. Bring along your own selection of party music if you are on a private charter to ensure that your group can groove to the best music. Consider hiring a DJ or live entertainment if the boat allows it, it can make for a great party. 4. Don’t niggle on price. If you have lots of people to share the cost, a more expensive boat will be not be much more per head and be more comfortable and will be talked about for years to come. 5. If you are on a BYO boat, finger food or a cold buffet is perfect for a bustling New Years Eve Party. You may have to park a way away from your pick up point so keep it simple. 6. Some of the catamarans like Dreamtime Girl or the Seawind 1000 have skippers that will cook a BBQ for you. 7. Leave plenty of time to get to your wharf. Sydney public transport is a good option to take to avoid the busy traffic and road closures. 8. Bring a good camera. The fireworks are absolutely beautiful from up close and the awe, the colours on peoples faces makes for some great photography. Taking photos from your phone wont be the same as with a camera that can do speed shots to catch the firework display.

The Harbour of Light Parade is an annual event where the vessels decorated with lights parade in a large circle near the Sydney Harbour Bridge. These vessels line up on the western side of the harbour before they start their journey. Many of our past clients have said that this was the highlight of their NYE boat charter. Please ask us if you wish to join the Harbour of Light Parade as we can book you on a ticketed cruise or a private boat hire charter cruise. Boats have to apply to join the parade and the announcement is made in October each year.

Due to the nature of New Year's Eve and as there's a lot of vessels on the Harbour, swimming it not permitted for this occasion.

In the interest of public safety, an Exclusion Zone – marked by lit yellow buoys – will extend from Cockatoo Island in the west to Clarke Island in the east. The Exclusion Zone will be activated from 8pm on Sydney New Year’s Eve until approximately 12.45am on New Year’s Day. No unauthorised traffic will be allowed inside the Exclusion Zone. The Exclusion Zone will remain active for about 45 minutes after the end of the Midnight Fireworks to ensure the safety clearance of the fireworks barges. When the exclusion zone is lifted it will be announced on VHF17 and on the projections on the Sydney Harbour Bridge Pylons.

Following the 9PM Family Fireworks, the Harbour of Light Parade® commences. Each craft in this illuminated flotilla of over 40 boats has submitted a design bid for inclusion.

Your skipper will aim to get a good vantage point for the fireworks, however a perfect view cannot be guaranteed. Generally you are looking up into the sky so if there is a boats nearby, they are not a major distraction at the time of the fireworks. There are multiple pontoons on the harbour so that as many people as possible get good views. Being on the harbour, you may be lucky to see two three or maybe even four barges if you are lucky. Boats are directed to cruise and anchor in safe areas on the harbour by NSW Maritime so that they will not be in direct fire of the fireworks. Your skipper on the night will prioritize customer safety and will be watching the wind and other vessels so that your anchor is as safe and comfortable as possible. There is much competition for the usual best vantage spots and the actual position of the boat at the time of the fireworks cannot be guaranteed as boats are constantly juggling for positions and the wind can move the boats as well.

I have personally attended the NYE Fireworks show in Sydney over 20 times. I have watched from a boat, the Opera House, The Botanic Gardens, a harbour island and Mrs Macquaries Point. Among my most memorable experiences have been the times out on the water but there is a huge range in quality of NYE Harbour cruises, so today I want to share some tips to help you make a good decision.

Choose an accessible pickup and drop-off spot for your NYE Cruise

The first thing to consider is where you will join the cruise. If it’s departing from an odd location or even one that is hard to get to from home, it becomes more trouble than it’s worth. If you can, choose a wharf that is near public transport, or parking if you have a designated driver. Let’s face it; no one is in the mood to walk kilometres at the end of a long night of partying.

Note: New Year’s Eve sees lots of city streets closed and your usual parking spots or transport routes may not be available, so plan ahead.

A New Year’s Eve cruise in Sydney is a big-ticket item. These tips on finding a good NYE cruise will help make sure you pick a quality cruise, because when it comes to Sydney Harbour Cruises ON NYE, it’s not always smooth sailing.

Make sure you know who the operator is.

Boats of all sizes are available for charter on Sydney Harbour so it’s important to make sure the operator you pay for your cruise is reputable. There have been occasions in the past when people have handed over large sums on money only to find no boat turns up on NYE.

Check out the company selling the tickets, look at Google reviews, ask in our group or stick to buying from an OTA like Australian owned and operated Travello (our preferred partner), Get your Guide or Viator.

Decide if you want a BYO cruise or a fully catered option?

New Year’s Eve cruises, whether ticketed or through a private charter, fall into one of two categories; Bring Your Own and catered. If your cruise is catered, then make sure you know exactly what is and is not included.

Catered cruises are usually one of three types: canape and finger food, buffet or seated menu. Many operators are happy to work with your specific dietary requirements, so reach out directly and ask if you have any special needs.

Along with the different food menus are different drink options. Some offer regular bars where you buy what you would like to consume. More often though, some sort of drinks package is included. Everything from the premium packages with imported beers and bubbles to the basic local beers, house wine and spirits.

If you choose a chartered boat rather than one of the packages on offer by cruise operators, you are more likely to find they offer a BYO option. The major benefit of this option is that you can take along exactly what you want to drink, and you can save if you are not much of a drinker.

If you go with the BYO option, double check that there are no corkage fees, that you can bring your esky to keep the drinks at perfect temperature or that they have cooling on offer onboard.

Make sure the boat has secured a good position for the fireworks show!

Seems like a simple thing, that all boats would have a good view, but they don’t. Many of the less expensive boats are assigned less than stellar positions assigned to them. If your boat is positioned inside the exclusion zone, you will be in the thick of the action with amazing views. Otherwise it can be up to the skill of the captain and the traffic on the night.

If your cruise is part of the Harbour of Light Parade, chances are it will have a prime position when the clock strikes 12, but if not, double-check with the operator.

There are two things you should check:

They assigned larger boats a general vicinity to anchor in for the show. Smaller charters rely on the skill and experience of the captain to find the best spot.
Also, consider the vessel itself. There is often limited space on the outside decks; some boats don’t even have an outdoor area, so you will watch the fireworks from behind glass. Sure, it might be cheaper, but is this what you want?

How much do new year’s eve cruises in Sydney cost?

If you want to be on the water under the fireworks, then you are looking at somewhere between $399 and A$1500 per person for a food and drink package.

All the leading tour operators offer cruises on Sydney Harbour on New Year’s Eve with some of the big-name boats charging up to A$1500 per person. For that, you get a 6-hour cruise with a five-course meal and drinks. This is a great way to experience Sydney on NYE if you can afford it. Just do your homework and make sure you chose a vessel that is suited to your musical/food tastes. 20 something’s may not like to listen to a 60s band all night 😉 just like 50+ might not like five hours of dance music. At about 9.20pm after the first round of fireworks, many of the vessels on the water turn on their lights and parade up and down the harbour until the midnight fireworks.

Harbour of Lights Parade

Every year Sydney Harbour is brought to life not just by the fireworks but also by the Harbour of Lights Parade, an annual pilgrimage of boats that make their way down Sydney Harbour. This is a fantastic experience, but whether you are in, it affects where and how soon you anchor. The boats that take part in this parade tend to get the best anchor spots.

There has not been much talk of the Harbour of Lights parade this year. I have not seen a list of confirmed vessels however it will include most of the big operators.

Check with your cruise operator to see if they have any boats taking part in this parade, as I highly recommend it, not just because you get an excellent anchor spot but because it truly is a breathtaking experience.

Another way of ensuring you will have a good vantage point is to choose a boat that advertises will be positioned in the exclusion zone.

New Year’s Eve Cruise 2024-25

So now on to the boats I would consider if I was buying New Year’s Eve tickets this year.

NYE on a Tall Ship

For a completely different night, spend a night on a boat of a similar size to the ships of the First Fleet.

One company I have cruised with (but not on NYE) and loved is Sydney Harbour Tall Ships. They have two Tall Ships that are positioned in the exclusion zone, meaning you have an excellent view of all the fireworks action. You can see the ships’ locations, in Circular Quay between the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge in the photo below.

The Southern Swan and the Soren Larsen provide a fantastic experience. Plenty of deck space, a great atmosphere with lots of music.

The tall ships, however, are sadly not wheelchair accessible, nor are they suitable for younger children.

Dinner will be a 4-course menu including Midnight Supper. There will also be bottomless French Champagne and premium beverages.

The exact location of the vessel cannot be guaranteed due to the heavy traffic and congestion on the harbour on NYE and the prevailing weather conditions. If the fireworks – which are organised by the NSW and Local Government – are cancelled for any unforeseen reason, there will be no partial or full refund offered by Australian Cruise Group.

Novokuznetsk

It was previously known as Kuznetsk until 1931, and as Stalinsk until 1961.

Founded in 1618 by men from Tomsk as a Cossack ostrog (fort) on the Tom River , it was initially called Kuznetsky ostrog ( Кузне́цкий острог ). [2] It became the seat of Kuznetsky Uyezd in 1622. [3] Kuznetsk ( Кузне́цк ) was granted town status in 1689. [3] It was here that Fyodor Dostoevsky married his first wife, Maria Isayeva in 1857. [13] Joseph Stalin 's rapid industrialization of the Soviet Union transformed the sleepy town into a major coal mining and industrial center in the 1930s. It merged with Sad Gorod in 1931. From 1931 to 1932, the city was known as Novokuznetsk and between 1932 and 1961 as Stalinsk ( Ста́линск ), after Stalin. As a result of de-Stalinization , it was renamed back to Novokuznetsk .

As of the 2021 Census , the ethnic composition of Novokuznetsk was: [14]

Within the framework of administrative divisions , Novokuznetsk serves as the administrative center of Novokuznetsky District , even though it is not a part of it. [1] As an administrative division, it is incorporated separately as the Novokuznetsk City Under Oblast Jurisdiction —an administrative unit with the status equal to that of the districts . [15] As a municipal division , Novokuznetsk City Under Oblast Jurisdiction is incorporated as the Novokuznetsky Urban Okrug . [15] [16]

The city consists of six non-municipal intra-city districts : [16]

On 7 December 2009, by a resolution of the Novokuznetsk City Council of People's Deputies, a new version of the City Charter was approved, [16] according to which the authorities consist of:

Mayors of the city of Novokuznetsk,
Administration of the City of Novokuznetsk (executive and administrative authority),
City Control Committee (permanent body of financial control),
Judicial institutions: district courts, courts of general jurisdiction, the Russian Agency for Legal and Judicial Information, the permanent judicial presence of the Kemerovo Oblast Court, judicial divisions of magistrates, and others. [18]

The Novokuznetsk City Council of People's Deputies is a representative body of power and consists of 18 deputies elected in 18 single-mandate constituencies and 18 deputies elected on party lists. The term of office of deputies is five years.

In September 2021, elections were held for the Council of People's Deputies, following which the seats in the council were distributed as follows: 27 - United Russia , 2 - Liberal Democratic Party , 2 - A Just Russia , 2 - Communist Party . The representative of United Russia, Alexandra Shelkovnikova, was elected chairman.

The Youth Parliament of the city operates under the City Council of People's Deputies. [19]

A whole network of bodies of territorial public self-government has been created in Novokuznetsk; [20] in total, 60 of them have been created in the city: in the Zavodskoy District - 7, Kuznetsky - 6, Kuibyshevsky - 13, [21] [22] [23] Novoilyinsky - 6, Ordzhonikidzevsky - 9, Central - 16.

RC Novokuznetsk compete in the Professional Rugby League , the highest division of rugby union in Russia.

Florida Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky , Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Dmitry Orlov and Minnesota Wild winger Kirill Kaprizov were all born in Novokuznetsk and began their pro careers with Metallurg Novokuznetsk.

Novokuznetsk is also the birthplace of US chess Grandmaster Gata Kamsky .

The main airport is the Spichenkovo Airport . The city is also a major railway junction with both local and long-distance trains. Local public transport is provided by trams, buses, and trolleybuses.

Novokuznetsk has a fairly typical southwest Siberian humid continental climate ( Köppen climate classification : Dfb ) with warm summers during which most of the precipitation occurs, and severe, generally dry winters. Snowfall is very frequent during the winter, but its water content is generally very low due to the cold temperatures.
