5 stars 4 stars 3 stars 2 stars 1 star 0.00/5 - (0 Votes) Colm Local tour guide "Make sure to wear comfortable shoes when you head to the Coors Brewery Tour in Denver because there's a fair bit of walking involved, plus you'll want to be cozy as you explore the historic brewery grounds. Also, remember to bring your ID and consider visiting during off-peak hours like weekday mornings to enjoy a more intimate experience and avoid the crowds."

What is Coors Brewery Tour?

The Coors Brewery Tour is a journey into the heart of one of America's most beloved beer brands, Coors Brewing Company, located in Golden, just a stone's throw away from Denver. It offers visitors an intimate look at the brewing process, from the selection of ingredients to the meticulous methods of producing their renowned beers. Participating in the tour, you're not just walking through an industrial facility; you're stepping into a slice of Colorado's rich brewing history.

Our Most Popular Tour:

From the famous deep dish Chicago town pizza to authentic Italian cuisine in it’s very own Little Italy to the best donuts you’ve ever tasted, if yo...

As you navigate through the brewery, you're treated to sights, sounds, and smells that are both educationally stimulating and immensely pleasurable for any beer enthusiast. The tour culminates with some refreshing samples for those of age, providing a taste that's as fresh as it gets. It's particularly known for the quality of its water, which is sourced from the nearby Rocky Mountains and is a critical component of the beers' distinctive flavors.

History of Coors Brewery Tour

The roots of Coors Brewery stretch back to 1873 when Adolph Coors and Jacob Schueler opened their operation in Golden, Colorado. The brewery survived prohibition by diversifying their products and even now, it stands as a testament to resilience and innovation. The tour itself has become an institution, offering a window into brewing operations for generations of visitors.

What's fascinating is the continued balance of traditional brewing techniques with modern technology at Coors. Over the years, the tour has evolved, reflecting changes in the brewing industry and in public interest. But throughout all that time, the focus on quality and craftsmanship has been unwavering, which, I reckon, visitors can witness firsthand on the tour.

Why is Coors Brewery Tour Important?

Coors Brewery Tour is an emblematic part of Colorado's cultural and industrial landscape. The state is known for its robust beer culture, and Coors is a major player in that realm. For many, the tour is a rite of passage, an educational journey that highlights the significance of the beer industry in Colorado.

The importance of the tour also echoes the evolution of beer in America. Coors has been there through it all, surviving tough times and flourishing in good ones. Plus, it's not just about beer; it's about community, history, and the American Dream. Think about it, what does it take for a brewery to endure and prosper through a century and a half? That's a story worth telling—and tasting—on the Coors Brewery Tour.

Things to Do & See at Coors Brewery Tour

When you embark on the Coors Brewery Tour, you're in for a host of experiences. First off, there's the brewing process itself, which is a marvel of science and tradition. Watch the mash tun work its magic, turning malt and water into wort. Then there's the fermentation area, where yeast diligently crafts that wort into beer.

Don't forget the packaging side of things where an intricate ballet of machines fills, caps, and labels the beers at an almost dizzying pace. Imagine standing there as hundreds of bottles whiz by, soon to be enjoyed across the nation. Next, there's the historic aspect; you'll see historic photos, vintage bottles, and old advertisements that paint a picture of Coors' storied past.

And of course, you'll have the opportunity to taste a variety of beers at the end of the tour. Whether you're a fan of the classic Coors Banquet or you're more into the latest craft offerings from the Colorado Native series, there's something to please every palate. Just picture it: clinking glasses with new friends against the backdrop of the breathtaking Rocky Mountains. Now that's an experience that goes beyond your average brewery tour.

Coors Brewery Tour – Tour Information and Tips for Visiting

Coors brewery tour bus

As a Minnesotan, and one from the land of sky blue waters, it’s sacrilegious for me to claim my love of the beer which is born in the Rocky Mountains — Coors Light. But, I unabashedly continue to order my silver bullets and after a visit to the Coors Brewery in Golden, Colorado, I am even more of a patron today.

Coors Brewery Tours – Golden, Colorado

Tours are about $20 per person. Check the website for hours. You can make reservations online or over the phone. It’s really better than I had anticipated and I think you’ll have fun, too!

Booking Reservations for a Coors Brewery Tour

The first and most commendable thing I noticed when I booked my brewery tour (over the phone) was the tour booker told us we’d need to present ID and vaccination card upon check in. After traveling extensively in LA this summer and fall, I had been waiting for the time I’d have to pull out my vax card, but it never came. Here, we did get carded for both age and vaccination. The information upfront was extremely helpful for planning.

Brews from the Coors Brewery

If you have a larger group, book NOW. Do not wait! Luckily, there were only two of us, and we were super flexible, so we were able to find a two-person slot. Otherwise, it was booked out for a few weeks. That was in April. It will only get worse with tourist season underway.

New Tour, Different Flow

There are only about a dozen patrons on each Coors Brewery tour. A tour guide is with you at all times and tours last about an hour. You get three 8 oz. beers throughout the tour (if you are legal to drink, children are allowed on tour, but are given a different bracelet to designate them as underage.) The beers are perfectly paced with the information and duration of the tour.

Bonus: You get to keep the recycled Coors cups from your experience as fun souvenirs.

This is a different model than previous tours, so if you’ve done it before and didn’t’ love the experience, try it again. This was really a GREAT date for an afternoon of fun. Everything is streamlined and clean and the pace is perfect.

Coors Brewery Tours are Perfect for an Afternoon Date

We weren’t sure that we wanted to do a Coors brewery tour. After a weekend in Denver and the surrounding cities, trekking all over the front country and into the Rockies, we agreed this was one of the most carefree and simple fun memories we made. If you’re a beer enthusiast, this is a great time. Lots of bite-size history tidbits and sips of the cold, fresh beer made a great date! The beer is made with Colorado Rocky Mountain water. They keep it local, proudly. (Don’t worry: I asked–it’s NOT made from the stream on location.)

If you ARE coming from Denver, before you enjoy the tour, enjoy this amazing street taco joint we found which sets up the afternoon for success! Golden is a short drive from Denver (about 40 minutes from the Denver International Airport), but it’s worth the trip to experience the Coors brewery tour.

Signature Experience

Coors Brewery

Coors brewery tour, touring history.

With such an iconic brand on Mines’ doorstep,  a brewery tour is essential to do at least once.

Smell that? That whiff of hops in the fresh Colorado air? Mines may be the centerpiece of Golden, but the Coors Brewery that flanks campus is just as iconic, and the brewery tour is an essential to-do for Golden residents and visitors alike. Plus, there’s a refreshing pint at the end of the tour—for those who are legally able to partake, of course. Beer not your thing? The tour includes fascinating tidbits about Golden history, the brewery’s architecture and even their water treatment process—all the cool nerdy knowledge Orediggers love.

Brenna, Civil Engineering, Colorado Springs, Colo.

“The Coors Brewery Tour is a lot of fun, even if you aren’t 21! Learning about breweries is a Colorado essential, since Coors is just one of the dozens of breweries in town. Plus, if you have any interest in water treatment, the Coors treatment plant is so cool!”

Cobi, Civil Engineering, Rochester Hills, Mich.

“It costs money, which is really unfortunate. However, it is worth it because of the cool gift shop at the end which features lots of cool Coors merchandise. A must for any Mines student before they graduate.”

Casey, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Sebastian, Fla.

“Coors lab will be the reason I get a job after I graduate. It’s all about those connections you make during your time at Mines.”

John, Electrical Engineering, Roggen, Colo.

“This is an absolute must! The tour is fantastic, even if you can’t drink the beer at the end. It’s still definitely worth it!”

Kejun, Chemical Engineering, China

“I enjoyed my Coors Brewery Tour, and it really gave me a sense of what Golden has to offer and the history it contains. The relaxing environment carries even into our campus, where students or friends will go to a local pub or brewery after a long project or a terrible exam for a much-needed break!”

Gabriel, Computer Science, Venezuela

“I personally did the Coors Brewery Tour when I was but a young, young lad. It was   really incredible   to get to know the ins and outs of the factory, how their beer is made and (if you’re over 21) you even get a free sampling of different beers at the end! Great experience—definitely recommend it every so often.”

Stella, Mechanical Engineering, Lincoln, Neb.

“I had so much fun when I went! You learn so much and the buildings are gorgeous.  It’s an experience everyone should have at least once!”

Colorado's most beautiful and unique brewery taprooms

A decade ago, breweries mostly landed in bland industrial warehouses or business parks driven more by the need for space than the appearance of the taproom.

Yes, but: Now, the taproom is central to a brewery's image — and its bottom line — so where it's located and how it looks is getting more attention.

The vibe: We polled beer industry pros and pulled from our adventures across the state to find 10 of the most beautiful and unique brewery taprooms in Colorado where the ambiance is as good as the beer.

Odell Brewing in Fort Collins: The expansive outdoor patio, with its beautiful flower hanging baskets and misters, as well as its multi-bar indoor taproom, make Odell the destination for a beer in the summer months.

  • A short walk across the patio is OBC Wine Project for those who want to sip something other than beer, as well as food trucks and a small stage often showcasing live music.

FlyteCo Tower in Denver: Both FlyteCo breweries are well appointed, but nothing compares to the Tower location in Central Park, where you can play arcade games, go bowling or play mini-golf all while sipping a craft beer.

  • The ambitious in the crowd will climb the stairs of the old Denver airport air traffic control tower for unrivaled views.

Avery Brewing in Boulder: Avery Brewing sits in a business park but looks nothing like its surroundings. An outdoor beer garden, a sleek taproom on each floor of the restaurant and unique catwalk tours of the brewing operations make the Boulder brewery one of the top beer destinations in Colorado.

Woods Boss Brewing. Photo courtesy of Tristan Chan

Woods Boss Brewing in Denver: True to its name, entering "The Lodge" taproom inside Woods Boss offers mountain retreat vibes with high ceilings, log cabin styling and wide open spaces to gather for a beer.

Storm Peak Brewing in Steamboat Springs: The taproom, with its 20 barrel brewing system and rollercoaster canning line, looks like any brewery inside. But on the rooftop deck, looking out over the mountains north of Steamboat Springs, you find one of the best brewery views in the state.

Bierstadt Lagerhaus in Denver: Bierstadt embraces the traditional warehouse brewery feel with a bar on the bottom floor serving a huge game area and expansive outdoor seating in the parking lot. But it's the main bar elevated in the rafters upstairs and next to a copper brewing kettle that makes it the best place for a beer party.

Bristol Brewing in Colorado Springs: Pull up a seat at the bar located in the century-old Ivywild School and you'll realize this is no ordinary brewery. The barrel room downstairs is a more intimate experience with just a handful of tables, and the outdoor "schoolyard" is the place to hang in the warmer months.

Cohesion Brewing in Denver: This neighborhood taproom serves great Czech-style lagers in York Street Yards , an old military depot building. The red-brick walls and wood-beam rafters give the taproom a modern feel to compliment the old-world beers.

Public Offering Brewing in Denver : Located on South Broadway, the brewery offers a warm industrial feel with the gleaming tanks of the brewhouse central in the space. On weekends, it's a place where families and friends gather at big tables to celebrate birthdays and more.

Odell Sloan's Lake Brewhouse in Denver: The clean lines and expansive taproom downstairs are a lure, but the prize is the rooftop deck where you can watch sunsets cast a glow on the lake and downtown buildings in the distance.
