Legendary singer, songwriter and producer Lionel Richie announced his 2023 Sing A Song All Night Long tour with very special guests and one of the best-selling bands of all time, Earth, Wind & Fire. Produced by Live Nation, the 20-city arena tour stops at TD Garden on August 11, 2023.

Latest headlines | lionel richie, ewf light up td garden all night long.

The first time Lionel Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire played together, way back in the ’70s, they packed an arena. The last time Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire played together, Friday night at the TD Garden, well, they packed an arena.

Back in the day, Earth, Wind and Fire were untouchable – the sharpest, coolest, most pop savvy of the funk kings. Richie was with the Commodores and not yet the breakout star. Now Richie is the bigger icon – with the closing spot on the duel headlining bill – but not much else has changed.

Earth, Wind & Fire started the night bright, bold, loud, proud, funky, freaky, and fabulous. And that just describes their threads. Hey EWF, the ’70s called, the decade wants you to know it’s positively thrilled with your look, and sound, and energy, and vibe, and horn section. (Late band founder Maurice White would be thrilled too – the legacy is in the good hands of brother Verdine White and longtime members Philip Bailey and Ralph Johnson.)

In just over an hour, EWF crammed in everything it needed to. The band proved it could tear the roof off the sucker with a fast and furious opening one-two-three punch that connected “Shining Star,” “Let Your Feelings Show,” and “Serpentine Fire.” It dropped in a few sweet ballads, the best being “After the Love Has Gone.” It reminded Boston that nobody triangulates tight pop, bottom-heavy disco and deep soul (see “Boogie Wonderland” and “Let’s Groove”). Oh, and “September” is ain’t bad.

Lionel Richie never gave much thought to triangulating genres. For Richie, it was all tight pop, all the time. The move made him a god in the ’80s, and he was only too happy to relieve those days with 20,000 ecstatic fans.

To start his set, Richie rose up through the floor at the end of a catwalk at the center of the arena. In a gleaming white jacket. Singing “Hello.” (Because of course he did.)

From there the pop got groovy (the Commodores’ “Brickhouse”) and rockin’ (“Running With The Night”). The pop got (momentarily) overshadowed by pyro, lights and lasers. It got a few bars to relax into its earthy singer-songwriter roots when Richie sat behind a white grand piano to sing Commodores classics “Easy,” “Sail On,” and — at a whole different grand piano at the end of the catwalk — “Still”

But it mostly shimmered, a set of perfectly glossed up ’80s mid-tempo numbers and ballads that crushed the adoring arena. And Richie just rolled right through them, a catalog unlike any other, “Truly,” “Stuck on You,” “You Are,” … The sheer amount of lite, Top 40 pop the man has is staggering. Even the heavy stuff such as “Dancing on the Ceiling,” was effervescent (note “Dancing on the Ceiling” can only be called heavy when it’s sandwiched between  “You Are” and “Three Times a Lady”).

At 74, Richie can still get down — he did a block of far-out Commodores tunes — but his wheelhouse has always been towering, syrupy, sublime and earnest pop. He knows that. He closed with a truly heartfelt “Say You Say Me,” a wait-is-he-really-doing-this-yes-I-think-he-is “We Are the World,” and perfect encore  “All Night Long (All Night).”

Lionel Richie Plots North American Tour With Earth, Wind & Fire

Lionel Richie will be heading out on a North American tour this summer, and he’s teaming up with Earth, Wind & Fire for the trek. Tickets for the “Sing a Song All Night Long” tour will be available for general sale beginning March 13 at 10 a.m. local time.

The 20-date tour hits arenas throughout the U.S. and Canada, including stops in Chicago, Toronto, New York, Washington D.C., Atlanta, and Austin. It starts on August 4 at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota, and runs through Sept. 15, when it wraps at Kia Forum in Los Angeles.

Lionel Richie and Earth Wind and Fire are teaming up for their “Sing a Song All Night Long Tour” this summer where they’ll perform a 20-date tour all over the U.S. and Canada.

The tour will begin on August 4 in St. Paul, Minnesota and will wrap up in Los Angeles, California on September 15. Lionel richie, trending on billboard, peso pluma & arcángel deliver enigmatic trap performance at latin amas 2024.

The 2023 Sing a Song All Night Long tour is slated to kick off on Aug. 4 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn., and will make stops in Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, Toronto, Atlanta, Houston and more before concluding on Sept. 15 at Los Angeles’ Kia Forum.

Fans can score tickets to the North American trek starting on Tuesday, March 7, with via the Citi cardmember presale. Cardholders will be able to purchase tickets from March 7 at 10 a.m. local time through Sunday, March 12, at 10 p.m. local time. General onsale for the tour begins on March 13 at 10 a.m. local time via ticketmaster.com.

Revel in the elements in our last outdoor First Fridays of the season. Wear your atmospheric ensemble (reds, blues, or earth tones encouraged) for a night of art, drinks, music, waterfront views, and (ba-dee-ya) dancing in September.

This 21+ event does sell out; advance tickets are highly recommended. $3 fee applies and is waived for ICA members. Discounted rates are available for packages of 10 or more. Please contact Visitor Services at  [email protected]  or 617-478-3100 during open hours for more information. The museum will not be open to visitors outside of the First Fridays event. Discounts, promotions, and admission vouchers do not apply toward First Fridays admission. The ICA store will close at 7 PM. Sing A Song All Night Long with music legends Lionel Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire ! Lighting up the KFC Yum! Center stage on June 12!

Lionel Richie announced the extension of his Sing A Song All Night Long tour with very special guests and one of the best-selling bands of all time, Earth, Wind & Fire . The 2024 dates follow a highly successful 2023 sold-out 20-date run of the Sing A Song All Night Long tour which made its way through North America with stops in Chicago, Boston, Toronto, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and more.

Tickets are on sale at the KFC Yum! Center Box Office and ticketmaster.com .

Bags no larger than 14" x 14" x 6"  will be allowed into the arena for events.

All bags are subject to search upon entering the arena. Backpacks of any kind, including drawstring, computer bags, and camera bags are prohibited. Please plan accordingly to help facilitate a quick and efficient entry process. Please report suspicious bags to a KFC Yum! Center team member.

Medical and parenting bags are permitted and subject to search.

The KFC Yum! Center is a  cashless venue.  All major debit and credit cards are accepted at concession and merchandise locations within the facility. Contactless transactions can also be made using  Apple Pay, Samsung Pay , and  Google Pay.

The "Sing A Song All Night Long" tour kicks off in August

Lionel Richie and Earth Wind & Fire will have fans dancing all night long this summer. The two acts are teaming up “Sing A Song All Night Long tour,” a 20-city North American trek that’s set to kick off in August.

Tickets are available via Stubhub — where orders are 100% guaranteed through Stubhub’s FanProtect program.

Last year, Richie was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and was honored with the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song by the Library Congress. The accolades don’t end there, however: he also claims one of music’s most dazzling mustaches .

In recent months, Earth Wind & Fire saw the passing of two longtime members: saxophonist Andrew Woolfolk died in April 2022 , and drummer Fred White lost his life in January 2023 . The group’s current lineup consists of Philip Bailey, Verdine White, and Ralph Johnson, along with B. David Whitworth, Myron McKinley, John Paris, Philip Bailey, Jr., Morris O’Connor, and Serg Dimitrijevic.

Lionel Richie Announces Co-Headlining Summer 2023 Tour with Earth, Wind & Fire — See the Dates!

The R&B and funk legends are teaming up for the Sing a Song All Night Long Tour — 20 dates across North America throughout August and September

Get ready to party "All Night Long" with Lionel Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire this summer!

On Monday, the R&B and funk legends announced they'll be teaming up for a string of 20 concerts, billed as the Sing a Song All Night Long Tour, across North America.

"Well, my friends, the time has come to announce a tour — not just any tour, but the tour I've been trying to do for years, and now it's going to actually happen," said Richie, 73, in a video shared to social media alongside the tour announcement. "This is the place you need to be."

Kicking off Aug. 4 in St. Paul, Minnesota, the tour will see the superstars perform in cities including Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Seattle and more before wrapping on Sept. 15 in Los Angeles.

Tickets go on presale for Citi cardmembers from March 7 at 10 a.m. local time through March 12 at 10 p.m. local time before a general sale begins on March 13 at 10 a.m. local time. VIP packages are also available, with more information regarding all tickets available at Richie's website .

The tour will follow the American Idol judge's string of concerts in Europe throughout June and July, as well as Earth, Wind & Fire's previously announced U.S. concerts in June and July.

Lionel Richie has announced his 2023 Sing A Song All Night Long tour with very special guests Earth, Wind & Fire. Produced by Live Nation, the 20-city arena tour kicks off Friday, August 4th at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, with stops across North America in Chicago, Toronto, New York, and more before wrapping up on Friday, September 15th at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles.

Tickets will be available starting with a Citi presale beginning Tuesday, March 7th. The general on sale will start Monday, March 13th at 10 am local time via Ticketmaster . Fans can also purchase VIP Packages, which may include premium tickets, access to the pre-show VIP lounge, limited edition tour poster, specially designed VIP gift item & more.

Concert review: Earth, Wind & Fire outshine Lionel Richie at the X

L ionel Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire — two of the biggest R&B acts of the ’70s and ’80s — kicked off a joint tour Friday at St. Paul’s Xcel Energy Center and thrilled the crowd of about 13,000 with an evening of hit after hit after hit.

Like Richie’s first group the Commodores, EWF were often classified as a funk band, but they’ve always been so much more, dabbling in soul, disco, rock, jazz and Latin jazz. And despite the 2016 death of band founder/leader Maurice White, the three core members — Verdine White (bass, vocals), Philip Bailey (vocals, percussion) and Ralph Johnson (vocals, percussion) — have kept the group going strong. In terms of infectious energy and sheer joy, they easily bested Richie (more on him in a bit).

With 11 musicians on stage, EWF conjured a wall of sound that gave their numerous hits true power. The group’s cover of the Beatles’ “Got to Get You Into My Life” (which Paul McCartney wrote as an ode to both Motown and weed), “Fantasy,” “That’s the Way of the World,” “Boogie Wonderland,” “Let’s Groove” and the inevitable “September” sounded as bright, vibrant and exciting as ever.

Even EWF’s slower songs packed a punch, like “Keep Your Head to the Sky,” which they began playing on a dark stage, with members of the audience using their mobile phone flashlights to provide a sky of “stars.”

Really, the only complaint is that at a mere 75 minutes, their set felt a bit rushed. More Earth, Wind & Fire is a good thing.

As far as Richie goes, he’s clearly a talented entertainer and songwriter. In the first half of the ’80s, he was one of MTV’s biggest stars with a string of smashes that include “Truly,” “All Night Long (All Night),” “Hello,” “Stuck on You,” “Dancing on the Ceiling” and his Diana Ross duet “Endless Love.” But he took a break from music to care for his ailing father, who died in 1990. Richie has said that sent him into a deep depression that he couldn’t shake until the birth of his son Miles four years later.

Richie has never returned to that level of success, but he’s remained a favorite with audiences — oddly enough, he’s absolutely adored in the Arab world — both for his concerts and his other endeavors like serving as an “American Idol” judge.

Since 2016, Richie has played a series of Las Vegas residencies, and it’s quite clear he’s picked up some of the cheesier, old-school Sin City vibes. Much like his 2019 concert at the Minnesota State Fair Grandstand, Friday’s show tended to drag at times as Richie over indulged in canned stage banter between numbers. He also let the crowd cover for him when he couldn’t hit the notes, which was often.

Still, Richie comes across as an amiable guy and he made sure to play every one of those aforementioned hits along with a bunch more.
