Under The Gun’s photographer, Tori Thomas attended the Cincinnati date of Warped Tour on July 31st. She caught Sleeping with Sirens and Memphis May Fire’s set that day!

Warped Tour season came this summer and I was stoked. I’ve been to Vans Warped Tour for the past five years, and a summer wouldn’t be the same without it! That means if you’ve never been, make an effort to attend next year! My Warped Tour experiences are different from the average Warped attendee. Last year I interned with FBR on Warped for six days and became good friends with Metal Mike, many people know him as the “fucking sunglasses” or “purple fanny pack” guy. So this summer I helped him at four dates with Advent Clothing Company , and those four days were some of the best!

I caught Sleeping With Sirens and Memphis May Fire ‘s sets while I was at Cincinnati Warped. I’m a fan of Sleeping With Sirens and I thought they did a lot better from when I saw them back in January. While I walked around Warped I got to hear a variety of different bands, and I can say SWS was one of the best on the tour. I’ve never listened to Memphis May Fire before I took photos of them, but they were excellent live. I don’t really listen to much of the harder music, but I enjoyed it.

The full  VANS WARPED TOUR 2012 multi-stage line-up has now been revealed including  Rise Against , who will join other previously announced main stage artists  All Time Low ,  Taking Back Sunday ,  Anti-Flag ,  Yellowcard ,  The Used ,  Four Year Strong ,  New Found Glory ,  Pierce The Veil ,  Falling In Reverse ,  Breathe Carolina and more. The  VANS WARPED TOUR –a mix of  hotly-tipped and established artists –continues to be the  most eclectic traveling festival tour on the planet featuring  rock ,  punk ,  pop ,  hip-hop and  rap, metal, indie rock, electronic ,  alt-country, folk-punk ,  dubstep ,  reggae and  rockabilly. Last night ( Thursday, March 29 ), the  VANS WARPED TOUR kick-off party and press conference was held at Club Nokia in downtown Los Angeles.  VANS WARPED TOUR artists and friends joined tour founder  Kevin Lyman and  Steve Van Doren of  Vans to celebrate. Fans were treated to a screening of the new tour documentary film  No Room For Rockstars (from  Stacy Peralta and the producers of  Dogtown & Z-boys ,  www.noroomforrockstars.com ) and enjoyed live performances from  Forever Came Calling (the group featured in the film),  Falling In Reverse ,  Matt Toka ,  Dead Sara as well as special performances from tour veterans  Yellowcard (acoustic) and  The Used . “The energy at the 18th annual  Vans Warped Tour Kick-Off Party was amazing,” said founder  Kevin Lyman . “All signs point to a great summer to come in 2012.”

The 41-date  VANS WARPED TOUR 2012 commences June 16 in Salt Lake City, UT and finishes August 5 in Portland, OR.  The tour will hit a handful of new venues this year. See the full itinerary with dates and venues announced now, listed below.

Question: Why is 2018 the last year of the Warped Tour?

Answer: I could probably give you 20 reasons. I think I’ve done everything I possibly can in the format that it’s in. Warped has always had a philosophy of music, education and philanthropy, and I’m just gonna focus a little more on the education and philanthropy side of my life right now. Being on the road at 57 and the way I live my life – I’m 100 percent all in – it’s physically getting hard to be out there and working that kind of lifestyle.

Q: Any idea how many Warped Tour dates there have been, or will be, when it’s all said and done?

A: About 1,200, I think.

Q: How many of those have you not attended?

A: I would say 10. There was one little leg of Australia that I missed.

Q: Who is the quintessential Warped Tour band?

A: Less Than Jake and Reel Big Fish. I guess it’s a toss between those two, and that’s why I have bands like them on the tour this year. I wanted to bring them and Every Time I Die. Those bands have used this tour not only to benefit the tour but also benefit their careers. Every time they appear, they seem to replenish their population of fans and go on and have great tours every fall.

Q: Most of Warped’s Cincinnati stops were at Riverbend, but there was …

A: We did one at the racetrack in Sparta, Kentucky, once, if I remember. The Kentucky Speedway.

Q: Was that a big deal to switch it up? Was consistency in venues important to drawing crowds?

A: In the last few years, we’ve kind of settled into places, but even this year, the last year, we’re playing three or four or five new places that we’ve never played before. But we figured out how to configure Riverbend to work well, and Matt (Dunne), who runs the place, has always been willing to adapt to what we need.

Q: Was Lollapalooza, in its original touring phase, the inspiration for Warped Tour?

A: I was the first stage manager of Lollapalooza in 1991. I remember playing Riverbend with that tour and everyone throwing the grass down the hill. In some ways, Lollapalooza opened my mind a little bit, because I had never been touring. I was always a local production manager, and I was running 320 shows a year in Southern California, so my first real touring experience was Lollapalooza. I learned pros and cons. If I ever got a chance to do my own tour, I learned that I wanted to write that schedule differently every day, because I wished in ’91 Henry Rollins could play right before Jane’s Addiction at some point.

Q: When Lollapalooza went from a touring festival to a stationary one, were you ever tempted to do the same?

A: No. Warped was about bringing the music to the kids. Not everyone can afford to travel to a festival. Bands in the early days like Sublime and No Doubt, they couldn’t get to places like Boise. There was nowhere for them to play. We tried to make it an ease of getting to – bring it to your own backyard.

Q: Is Warped Tour done for good, or are you of the never-say-never philosophy?

A: Next year is our 25th anniversary. We will be holding certain events, and one of them will be taking place in Ohio. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is going to be re-opening our exhibit sometime in the late spring, so I suspect we will be putting on a show there. I don’t want to say never, but as a touring festival, we are completely done.

2016 Vans Warped Tour Announces Full Lineup

Summer is slowly on its way, which means Vans Warped Tour will be cutting across the U.S. with dozens of bands in tow. Along with plenty of pop-punk acts, this years Warped Tour caters to the fan looking for some heavier bands as well.

Warped 2016 will feature acts which have made up the very fabric of 21st century Warped Tours. Mainstays such as Sum 41 , New Found Glory, Less Than Jake, Falling in Reverse , Reel Big Fish and Good Charlotte will weave the lighter side of the touring festival’s sonic tapestry. However, if those bands aren’t your cup of tea, Warped is offering some metal as well.

Bullet for My Valentine , Motionless in White , Every Time I Die ,  Veil of Maya , Whitechapel , Atreyu , Chelsea Grin and others will round out the heavier side of this year’s festivities.
