This depends by season and tour destination and we will individually give you advice before your trip.

Our customers usually get along with between 10 and 50 USD per person/day. We strongly recommend bringing USD which can be used as currency across Uganda, or withdraw Ugandan Shillings at the airport cash machines since in the country side credit cards are not widely accepted and cash machines might sometimes be out of service.

All our tours are guided by qualified and experienced English speakers.

Once you have confirmed the final itinerary we would request a 20% deposit. Please note that gorilla permits must be paid in full at the time of booking. As soon as we receive your payment we will be able to provide you a 100% guaranteed reservation of all activities, accommodation and gorilla permits. The remaining 80% should be settled latest 7 days before the start of your adventure.

In the three countries (Uganda, Rwanda and Congo), trekking mountain gorillas is now the leading tourist attraction bringing in visitors from different countries. Uganda is known for its unsurpassed biodiversity but gorilla trekking safaris are the most popular and are the prime reason many tourists visit Uganda. Mountain gorillas are scientifically known as Gorilla beringei beringei and in Uganda occupy the thick Tropical rainforests of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Parks found in the south-western corner of the country.

Gorilla trekking in Uganda is a one-of-a kind activity that leads enthusiastic primate lovers to the dense jungles to meet one of the 21 habituated gorilla families that call Bwindi Impenetrable and Mgahinga National Parks home.

With more than half the World’s population of surviving mountain gorillas calling these Park’s home, Uganda is definitely the best gorilla trekking destination. Mgahinga is a home to only one habituated gorilla family known as Nyakagyezi (translating into 8 gorilla permits) while Bwindi Impenetrable offers shelter to 23 habituated gorilla families found within the four sectors of the Park thus 184 permits are available per day.

Ensure that you are of reasonable shape, given the fact that mountain gorillas live in areas of high elevation thus making gorilla trekking physically demanding. Make sure you are over 15 years before trekking the mountain gorillas. This guideline is crucial for reducing the risk of exposing the already endangered primates to childhood diseases such as measles and also to avoid scaring them since children are unpredictable when it comes to responding to fear. Always wash your hands before trekking the mountain gorillas to avoid spreading disease causing germs to the gorillas. Maximum of 8 tourists are allowed to trek a habituated gorilla family per day to reduce risk of exposing mountain gorillas to diseases and to avoid behavioral changes.

Practice the principle of “pack it in, pack it out” when dealing with litter and leave the Park exactly the way you found it. The fragile ecosystem of mountain gorillas has to be kept the way it was found so that the generations to come can also enjoy the privilege of meeting face to face with the great apes with their authenticity. There are no toilets in the middle of the jungles and if you ever desire to answer the call of nature, speak to a ranger who will dig a small pit of 30 centimeters deep to allow you defecate and will be covered after use. Keep voices low when trekking the mountain gorillas and only ask the guides questions related to mountain gorillas and the activity itself.

Gorilla trekking tips when in the presence of the great apes

Flash cameras are not allowed to taking photos of the mountain gorillas because it scares them and can provoke an aggression. Trekkers are given only 60 minutes to interact with the mountain gorillas while taking photos as well as learning about their extraordinary behaviors and physical characteristics. This guideline is important to reduce possible risks of spreading diseases and stressing the mountain gorillas. Do not cough or sneeze in the presence of the mountain gorillas but if you get the urge to cough or sneeze, turn your mouth away and cover it with a handkerchief to avoid spreading germs. A minimum distance of 7 meters has to be maintained between the mountain gorillas and tourists. This is done to minimize behavioral disturbances and to avoid straining them. Similarly, do not touch the mountain gorillas and even when they come close to you, slowly move away. Avoid eating and smoking while in the presence of mountain gorillas. Remain together with your colleagues while in the presence of mountain gorillas to minimize any possible confusion to the great apes. Avoid staring directly in the eyes of the mountain gorillas because they will perceive it as a form of provocation and call for aggressiveness. If mountain gorillas charge, submit by crouching down. Avoid abrupt or swift movement while observing the mountain gorillas because it can scare them.

General Health rules

Mountain gorillas share 98% of their DNA with humans and this makes them vulnerable to a number of human diseases. Therefore trekkers are advised to adhere to the following health guidelines; • A distance of 7 meters must be maintained when watching the mountain gorillas. • Respect the time limit (one hour) set for viewing the mountain gorillas. • Avoid littering the National Park with rubbish because they act as breeding grounds for disease causing germs. • Turn your mouth away from the mountain gorillas when coughing or sneezing. • Don’t track the mountain gorillas if you are sick from contagious diseases such as cough and flue.

Each gorilla family has something unique for visitors to explore and only an hour is allowed for visitors to spend with these endangered creatures while in their natural habitat.

Rwanda lies in East-Central Africa and experiences two significant seasons which any trekker should put into consideration when planning gorilla safari. Rwanda is open throughout the year but it is best to visit it for gorilla trekking during the dry months of the year that start in June, July, August, September and December, January, February.

During the dry season, low rainfall amount is received and the gorilla habitat remains relatively driers thus favoring trekkers while on a hike through the dense rainforest and steep slopes of Volcanoes National Park.

You can obtain your gorilla permit through a reliable tour operator or through reservationist at Rwanda Development Board (RDB) .

Note, only 80 gorilla permits are available for booking in Rwanda and given the high demand, interested visitors are encouraged to secure their permits earlier at least 3-4 months before embarking on an actual trek.

What to expect on Rwanda gorilla trekking safari

Gorilla trekking in Rwanda  involves trekkers hiking through the dense rainforest and steep slope in Volcanoes National Park while in search for a group mountain gorillas assigned to them. It is a strenuous adventure that may last you about 2-6 hours and because of the nature of this experience, you need to be physically fit to make a complete trek.

Gorilla treks in Rwanda commence early in the morning with breakfast at your lodge of choice in Volcanoes National Park and after, you will be expected at Kinigi park headquarters to have briefing (at 7:30 am) on the set safety measures to be followed while in the wild with these creatures. It is during the actual gorilla trek that you will be assigned to only 1 habituated family to trek in a group of 8 visitors.

After the briefing, you set off to look out for your gorilla group at 8:00 am with park ranger guide and this primate adventure may take you about 2-6 hours although this may also depend on your hiking speed, nature of habitat and location of gorillas. Note, only an hour is given to you to have a face to face encounter with these creatures, take their pictures and explore their behaviors.

What to pack for a gorilla trek in Rwanda

Gorilla trekking requires you to pack appropriately starting with the essentials-the fact that this is not an ordinary adventure.

For this case, do not miss to pack waterproof but light hiking boots, daypack, bottled water, long socks, energy-giving snacks, walking stick (get one at the park headquarters/at your respective lodge), insect repellent, rain jacket/poncho, long-sleeved shirts/t-shirts, first aid kit or medical kit, hat, sunglasses, camera with no flashlight, binoculars, trousers, sweaters and many others.

They include Bageni gorilla group, Nyakamwe group, Humba gorilla group family, Kabirizi group, Munyaga gorilla group, Rugendo group, Mapuwa group, and Lulengo gorilla group.

We had the most wonderful experience in Uganda. Everything about this tour was excellent - it was perfectly organised and included once-in-a-lifetime activities, kind and accommodating staff, delicious food, beautiful accommodation and fantastic communication throughout. We told our lovely tour guide, Allen, that we wanted to try some local food so she brought us to the home of an acquaintance, who cooked us a big feast. Richard was fantastic to work with from beginning to end. Before the tour, there were times I e-mailed Richard when it would've been in the middle of the night for him, and I still received a response minutes later. At one point the A/C in our car stopped working, and the next day Richard sent out a new car with working A/C for us to use, despite us being on the other side of the country (we never requested it - they were just very proactive!). He picked us up from the airport (quite rare for a tour CEO to do so) and called me at the end of our trip to discuss our experience. The staff really went above and beyond to ensure we were enjoying ourselves. We really couldn't have asked for anything more and we’ve come home with a lifetime of amazing memories. Right now I want to go back to Uganda!

We have just returned from a journey of a lifetime in Uganda. We had choosen this country because in addition to the big 5 we had the trekking of gorillas and chimpanzees, it is a real pleasure for animal lovers. We chose tourradar because of their reviews, the best overall prices and due to not knowing any local companies. You can easily talk to someone by phone in case you have the need. As for things to improve, I found the price breakdown confusing and I would like to suggest to show total prices for all your tours instead (amount that you pay online plus the local fees). It just makes it easier to understand. As for Uganda, the country is full of beauty and its people are kind, welcoming, helpful, happy and resilient. A tip for fellow new travellers in Uganda, when bringing cash, carry US dollars 2013 and newer, it will make easy your exchange experience. Also know, roads are bumpy! Now, the tour, it exceeded our expectations everytime; accomodation, food, experiences, landscapes, animals and service were among the best we had experienced and all that thanks to our guide Bosco who has the skills to organize it in a way that delivers the best quality in any budget you choose. Bosco is reliable and he was very approachable and flexible to adapt to our requests about itineraries and accomodations. We definitely recommend his company. We made memories for life, and we only regret not having more of it!

Spent 2 days at Queen Elizabeth National park (evening then morning). Up close sightings from the safari van, of Ungandan kob, bush job, water bucks, water buffaloes, elephants, hippo, warthogs, and male lions. Be sure to take a boat cruise of the Kazinga Channel for close encounters with families of hippos, elephants, water buffaloes, possibly crocodiles. Stay at the Queen Elisabeth Bush Lodge for the highest level of food, service, accommodations, and security. Fabulous leisurely views of the Kazinga Channel from atop the bluff of elephant and hippo families. Visit the Kalinzu Central Forest Reserve for a good hike and chimpanzee tracking/trekking. If traveling far on safari you’ll get refreshed at fine oasis along the route. The hilly route from Kampala to Fort Portal to Queen Elizabeth is verdant and spectacular.

The tour guides and drivers were very accommodating and were obviously making sure we had the best experience they could provide. There was a problem getting on the plane to Uganda. I did not have a visa but G Adventures assured me I could get one at the airport. I had to spend an extra day in Nairobi obtaining a visa and then rent a taxi go catch up with my group. They need to insure that all paperwork is done in advance and stress this in their literature. Also, there was no representative from G Adventures at the airport when we checked into our flight. This would have helped.

i took this tour early in Jan-2019 and not happy with my experience. Tour guide was Thomas and he was rude, aggressive and not very helpful. We travel long distance and pay a lot for these experiences, and expectation is that everything should go as per itinerary that is booked in advance but this did not happen in this case and i left not feeling very happy. Reasons: - day 1. i was expecting (as per my itinerary) to go to biwindi rain forest on day 1 for gorilla tracking but instead, guide took me to Mgahinga forest. he did not inform me of plan change. - day 2: i wanted to spend another day gorilla tracking as it was an option as per my itinerary. but Thomas refused instead he pushed for short day on Batwa trail. His reasoning was that while tourists are away for activities, he has to sit and wait all day. i was not able to get another day of gorilla tracking although it was promised as per itinerary. I did not enjoy Batwa trail. - Road trip from kisoro to Entebbe was nightmare. His driving was reckless, it took 13 hours to get back to the hotel as he was not organised and did not know the routes well. He again did not tell me the plan for the day and that i will have to wait for 2 hours (sitting alone in a bus stand) for a ferry (which we actually were not able to take). i am just glad that I made it back alive.

My husband and I did the 3 day Gorilla Trek and Golden Monkeys, starting and finishing in Kigali. We have been so impressed with this tour. The lodgings and the experiences themselves far exceeded our expectations. Our lodging (Rushaga Gorilla Lodge) was fantastic. The location was beautiful and the staff were so lovely and helpful. All of the guides, trackers and support people involved in the treks were brilliant. Our highest regard goes to our tour guide, Jackson. We are so thankful that he was assigned to us. His local knowledge was amazing. He went above and beyond for us, specially catered to our interest in trying local food and could answer any question we could possibly think of. He made us and our belongings feel very safe and secure at all times. In addition, he was such a friendly and nice man who absolutely made this trip even more spectacular. Responsive, informative and PROFESSIONAL. Lakato Safaris were unbelievable in every aspect it could not have been a better experience. Prior to arriving in Uganda I was constantly updated and all questions answered quickly. Mohammad was our driver/guide and he was incredible, he was immaculately presented, non intrusive, polite, friendly and with a soft kind nature. We arrived into Entebbe to find that our checked luggage had been lost and Lakato Safaris without prompting followed up with our airline regarding our lost luggage, this was extremely helpful as we didn’t have a Ugandan Sim card thus could not contact the airline without expensive mobile roaming charges, also with Lakato safaris doing to communicating it freed us up to enjoy Kampala/Entebbe for a couple of days. As we didn't have our luggage Lakato gave us clothes to wear (2x Polo shirts, a long sleeved button up, long pants with legs that zip off to make short and a hat) all for free. Lakato also notified us before that our luggage had arrived (before the airline) and organized to have it delivered immediately. Another example of the first class treatment we received was when one of us (75years old) tripped over and badly grazed/cut up both hands and both knees, without prompting and using initiative we were taken on a slight detour to a local hospital to get the wounds disinfected and hygienically patched before continuing onto our next destination. We felt safe and looked after at all times WOW would recommend to everyone.

We just finished our amazing trip with Lakato Safaris, and it has been an amazing moment. From the very beginning to the end, everything has been well organized, the service and the quality of the suppliers were perfect, and we couldn’t find better agency to discover Uganda. They are all really professional (thank you Hilda, Sophie) and we had the chance to get an excellent guide (Thank you Abbas). What beautiful moments thanks to you guys. We’ll be back !

We shall take two different trails and we shall Hike from Tutume, Kajeri, Mude, Mude..We shall be sleeping at Mude Camp for two nights and the fourth day we shall be hiking to the summit so you will need to have enough rest to gain enough energy. This will not be a circle circuite because we shall be coming out of the mountain after spending two nights at Mude camp,

Queen Elizabeth National Park (QENP) is in the Western Region of Uganda, spanning the districts of Kasese, Kamwenge, Rubirizi, and Rukungiri. The park is approximately 400 kilometers (250 mi) by road southwest of Kampala, Uganda's capital and largest city. The city of Kasese lies to the northeast of the park, while the town of Rubirizi is to the southeast.

15 Days Gorilla and Chimps Trekking

Arrive and transfer to Murchison Falls where you expect a boat trip to the base of the falls and game drive. Head to Kibale for chimp tracking and also explore the crater lakes. From Kibale, transfer to Queen Elizabeth NP. Enjoy the big game sighting plus launch trip along the Kazinga Channel. Proceed to Bwindi for the ultimate gorilla experience and go have relaxation in Lake Bunyonyi. Exit Bunyonyi for Lake Mburo NP and enjoy a park walk plus some game drive. Fly out from Entebbe Airport.

This safari takes you to the mighty Murchison Falls. Expect big five sighting but the highlight is the boat trip to base of the falls and a hike (if you like) to the top of the falls. A safari to the Murchison Falls offers the opportunity for Big 5 sighting in Uganda. Enjoy the roars of the Murchison Falls and depart for your outbound flight in Entebbe.

This safari takes you to Murchison Falls. Expect Big 5, launch trip to the bottom of the falls. Proceed to Kibale for chimp habituation and thereafter enter Queen Elizabeth National Park. Here, you expect more game drive and launch trip on the Kazinga Channel. The safari continues to Bwindi for the ultimate gorilla experience. You will exit Bwindi for relaxation in Lake Mutanda. Head to Lake Mburo NP where you will enjoy a boat ride or park walk. Travel back to Entebbe for your outbound flight.

3-Days Masai Mara Joining Safari Tour

The 3 days masai mara safari tour takes you the world famous game reserve where the greatest animal movement on earth takes place, the wildebeest migration. Every year in month of July to October these wildebeest visit masai mara in hand with predators making it the best place to witness a kill either by a cheetah, lion, leopard or even hyenas not to forget crocodiles. Making the cycle of life to be complete. In deed it is the home to major safari journalists, photographers and film makers.

Be met by your safari guide at Entebbe international airport for the start of your 10 days Uganda safari with primates. On this first day, you are taken to the hotel in Kampala to relax after the flight and be ready for an early start tomorrow. Overnight Express View Inn
