Booking experience very good

Just a quick comment about the booking experience. One of the reasons I choose to travel with Saga is that when you ring them you get straight through to a REAL person who takes the time to discuss your plans and make the booking easily. You are not kept on hold, the phone is answered quickly and you are speaking with someone who knows what they are talking about. No stress - and altogether a pleasant experience. I spoke to Alison, and she could not have been more helpful.

Outstanding cruise on Spirit of Discovery!

Just returned for a superb cruise with Saga on Spirit of Discovery to Scandinavia. Can not fault a thing.... it was as near perfect as you can get! Embarkation, disembarkation, use of tenders fast, smooth and totally agro free! Food first class, the halibut, turbot and barramundi sublime, meat dishes excellent all attractively presented. Breakfast in The Grill amazing choice! Crew first class, cabin spotlessly clean, immaculate in condition, ok being upgraded to a suite was a mega bonus! Craft and water colour classes super fun to do. All the ship was so tastefully furnished, comfortable and you felt right at home from the get go. Lithuania was cancelled and Warnemunde replaced it.. excellent decision as everyone had an amazing time as all day mega sailing ship regatta taking place along side the ship! At Schwerin Castle, 30 of us had the place to ourselves as they opened it especially for us as usually closed on Mondays! yeh! to Saga for that extra treat! We can't wait to go on our next Saga cruise!

Superb holidays and cruises

Have been on Saga holidays and cruises and always feel safe and very well looked after. As a solo traveller I feel this is so important. Also the door to port/airport transfer is such a wonderful addition to their trips.

Fools gold on holiday deals

Looking for a Saga holiday at Port Denia Hotel today. A week's holiday flying from Glasgow on 10th September 2024 was advertised at £478pp. On the second web page again, advertised at £478..... Then just before you book, the price increases to £817pp or a £339pp increase. Not good - excellent marketing ploy to reel you in! Screen shots are available as proof! Surely this goes against advertising standards! Updated 13th August. At 11.15 today, the above prices have not changed, £478 on the first 3 pricing pages, changing to £817 on final page, therefore the prices aren't updated daily - there website is a sham! I can supply evidence/screen shots. I supplied screen shots of pricing structure to customer services on 12th August am, as requested and no-one has be in in touch to discuss this holiday.

Jay was exceptional

Jay was exceptional, from start to finish the service was amazing. Jay always responded with any questions very quickly, he kept us posted on flights, reminders on the day of our reservations at the different restaurants, transfers and times of collection. Our private transfer was 10 minutes late and I contacted Jay and he was straight on hand to contact them for an update. It was so reassuring that if I needed anything, Jay was available. We celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary and Jay organised a lovely surprise for us at the hotel room, we had a cake with happy 20th wedding anniversary on it, a card and wine, such a lovely personal touch. Thanks for making our holiday one to remember. Everything went well and according to plan. No issues at all. We would have no hesitation in recommending you.

Not as easy to book as it used to be for a long time customer

As I needed to speak to the insurance team, I could not complete my booking online; started booking on Friday - contact from insurance on Monday; sorted then invoice arrived which was blank except for cost. Could not pay deposit as booking not complete according to website. Contacted customer service - after long wait asked for call back; this came a couple of hours later, but the call cut off and nobody came back to me. Called again on Tuesday - spoke to helpful staff member, who had no trace of previous call, but was able to help me and complete my booking at a small cost increase on airport supplement. So, got there eventually, but felt there may not be enough staff to deliver service like they used to. Other issues: the website is less user friendly than it used to be - it used to be possible to review various holidays and work out which was most suitable. Now website often responds with error message after a few pages have been accessed. Also the general issue that prices seem to be changing - always upwards by me experience - by the day, so difficult to work out what you might end up paying. This is probably an industry problem but it doesn't enhance the experience.

Every time I phone Saga they are always helpful, pleasant and willing to take as much time as is needed to make sure I get what I need sorted. Great service

Saga agents are fab to talk to. Everyone I have spoken to over the years have made me feel valued and listened to. The only downside I have experienced is that sometimes the promised resort experience is lacking. However I do feel that Saga would resolve issues well.

Discount ??

Sales consultants very helpful and knowledgeable when I was booking a holiday to Costa Rica Web site advertising £800 reduction on 21 Jan 2025 departure. When I asked about this reduction after a very long delay I was informed by email this had been applied and related to December 2023 prices When I have tried to query this as I do not think this is relative to july 24 promotion in their web site no one has bother to reply !! This is obviously a gimmick to get people to book thinking they are getting £800 of the July prices advertised Not sure this is legal PS two days since i posted above and still no one from Saga has contacted me

Not recommend Through the Carpathian Mountains River Cruise

We have just come back from the river cruise - Through the Carpathian Mountains. The ship was excellent, as were the staff and food. The Ship's Manager Jez was very efficient and Norman the entertainer sang well and kept us all laughing throughout the tour. It was just a shame that it was spoilt, first with the airline Tarom which took us to Bucharest and was delayed over 3 hrs and the plane was very old (my seat was broken and wasn't upright, which was awkward, trying not to lean back on it) and also when the staff eventually did come round with refreshments of water, tea & coffee, they ran out halfway down the plane. We found out later from other guests that BA wouldn't fly to Bucharest because it was too near the Troubles. Even though we didn't reach our hotel till nearly midnight, The Sheraton made up for it with excellent buffet. Most of the trips costs extra, like the Delta river trip, which was worth it, but unfortunately due to the areas we were going to it was a bit depressing as we were just visiting memorial sites. The highlight should have been Bucharest, but the sightseeing trip round was ruined as we were not allowed to stop and take photos of the major sites. Then to top it all, our BA flight back was 3 hrs delayed and when we went to collect our luggage, about 20-30 of us didn't get ours. We had to find the lost luggage area and fill in forms on the IT screens and luckily for us, our taxi driver was still waiting about 1 1/2 hrs later. (No sign of a Saga rep). My bag turned up 2 days later, but my husband's didn't arrive till 11 days later. In that time it was difficult to communicate with BA as it is only chat lines. It was such a shame as we had had a lovely time on the ship, but wouldn't recommend the area we went to and definitely wouldn't go with BA again because of all the problems we had trying to talk to them.

The booking process was easy

The booking process was easy. Just had a few issues at the payment stage. Made 2 bookings as 3 of us going. Wanted a twin and a single, which we couldn’t do online. Requested a call back and this happened quickly

Borneo holiday.

Saga was efficient in dealing with me. My reason for 4 stars is that I asked for extra legroom on the flight and a room upgrade. This was not straightforward and at the moment I am not sure if I have been successful.

Left in limbo

Tried to book two rooms on line . Saga took booking but did not confirm booking. It took two phone calls to get confirmation that their allocation of rooms had been used but two others were available at an extra £80 per room. Experience was not Customer orientated and we were not kept in the picture regarding status

Very difficult to speak to a person.

Very difficult to speak to a person. Have not yet been able to complete experience as there has been no contact from the medical screening people. Received a response to this by a phone call when I was unable to come to the phone. On ringing the number that called me the response was 'do not recognise the number', so I still cannot speak to anyone.

I am having a very difficult time attempting to book a cruise on the Saga Rose for Summer 2009. Nothing can be done online without a valid UK postal code. I have been able to phone their UK booking office, but on one I have talked to is authorized to make a booking for an overseas client. I leave my name and phone number (US) each time, but still no response. Does anyone in the US who has booked with Saga, have any advice?

You might like to email them in the UK and ask who is their US agent?

I am not in the USA but the same applies in Canada. You cannot book through the UK office if you live in North America. There is an agent for Saga in the USA who handles all the North American bookings.

I agree that the contact information is hard to find. I think that Saga want to keep their cruise experience a very 'British' one & although they are promoting their cruises in North America, they are keeping it low key so that the majority of passengers remain British, hence keeping the 'Britishness' of it that is essential to their style of cruise. It is, after all, a British Company which aims it's products at a British market, just like other companies do in Germany, Spain, Japan etc.

Having said all that, I do not have the contact information available at the moment, but if no-one else provides it soon, I will be able to supply you with it a little later.

I understand the US agent could be based in Boston.

Cruise & Tour Reservations are the only agency to handle Saga Cruises in the US. You can reach them at 800-343-0273. The agent I dealt with for Saga Rose is Lisa Finnegan whom I found quite easy to deal with.

Thank you. I will try that number first thing Monday. I'm actually a QE2 regular for summer Norway cruises. No longer an option next year. I prefer the mature ships and the mature passengers they cater to.

We used her services on a Spirit of Adventure cruise last summer (that's the SAGA ship that takes pax over 21). Good luck.......

Maumee sewer saga: Residents, council members weigh in on grant funding

I t's been a stinky situation over the last two months in Maumee regarding sewers. But now, city officials are making an effort to help those concerned about the costs of sewer repairs.

"First thing I asked is 'OK, how are we going to get money back to these people' because they deserve it," said Maumee City Council member Josh Harris.

Harris was one of five council members who voted in favor of a proposed sewer grant repair program Monday night. That program was brought up on Tuesday at a community roundtable discussion with the intention of giving property owners more peace of mind.

It's a voluntary program, though, so people must apply and be approved.

It's a new plan the city approved after  repealing ordinance 20-2024 on July 31, which previously required residential properties for sale in Maumee city limits to have sewer line connections inspected and for owners to pay for potential repairs.

So, how does the program work?

It depends on your income and the type of fix needed. If you are fixing a foot of sewer lateral piping or a linear foot, and you make 125% of Maumee's average median income ($79,202, according to the city), you can qualify for up to $100 a foot in grant assistance, with a max of $8,000 total, depending on the project.

The city is offering a helping hand by offering money, but there were still those on Monday who voted no, like council member Philip Leinbach .

He says he's not against an assistance program, but thinks the current version to be tweaked.

"I believe that the focus on sewer laterals, which is what the grant covers for lateral work, I feel it's not going to move the needle in that direction of reducing SSOs (Sanitary Sewer Overflows), so whatever monies we have should be spent towards tangible reductions in the SSOs," Leinbach said.

Maumee resident Julie Koralewski says she is just happy to finally be heard.

"I think that's what we're feeling right now is that we're coming together, and we've got some more ideas that are coming that we talked about tonight that's going to take place, and I think we're narrowing that gap," Koralewski said.

Maumee has three more community roundtables scheduled, which are set to take place from 6-8 p.m. inside council chambers on Aug. 22, 27, and 29.

TV travel guide Rick Steves announces he has prostate cancer

TV travel guide Rick Steves announced Wednesday that he has cancer, saying on social media that he expects to emerge from the saga all the more grateful and wise.

He said he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer and will undergo surgery at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center-Seattle next month, but not before he films two episodes of his PBS mainstay "Rick Steves' Europe" in France in the next three weeks.

Afterward, he plans to return for the procedure, rest for a month and be back to his work routine by late October, according to his announcement, posted to Facebook , X and Instagram .

He explained why he doesn't seem too worried about the diagnosis:

"While the statistics tell me I should be just fine, I’ve been fortunate to have never spent a night in a hospital — and I find myself going into this adventure almost like it’s some amazing, really important trip. I feel good about my positive attitude — and I expect to take home some delightful, if intangible, souvenirs like: appreciating and seeing a vibrancy in the little things; appreciating the goodness in people and the treasure of friends and family; being wowed by modern medicine and the army of amazing, smart, and dedicated people that make it possible; appreciating what a blessing life, health, and this world to enjoy is; and — just in general — being more thankful."

Steves is an industry based in Edmonds, Washington, near Seattle, though he spends a third of every year in Europe creating new content and honing the PBS show, printed guides and guided tours that make up his enterprise. He also guides visitors with his “Travel with Rick Steves” radio show, available via public radio airwaves and through commercial radio juggernaut iHeartRadio’s podcasting platforms.

"There's a clear path forward to getting healthy," he said Wednesday, as though his diagnosis is a road map for a new adventure.
