CELEBRITY CRUISES FIRST-EVER EDGE SERIES ALASKA ITINERARIES SET SAIL

Celebrity Cruises elevates bucket list experiences on Celebrity Edge whilst energizing communities with impact projects in Alaska

MIAMI (May 17, 2024) – For the first time ever, Celebrity Edge® , the ship that introduced the revolutionary outward-facing design, calls Alaska home for the summer. Today, Celebrity Edge will embark on her maiden sailing roundtrip from Seattle on a seven-night Dawes Glacier itinerary with stops in Juneau, Ketchikan, and Skagway. Through its unique outward facing design, Celebrity Edge will offer guests an unmatched immersive experience as they take in the awe-inspiring Alaskan glaciers.

“There’s no better way to see the pristine Alaskan wilderness than onboard Celebrity Edge , which was specifically designed to create a closer connection between guests and destinations” said Laura Hodges Bethge, President of Celebrity Cruises. “Our elevated vacation options are redefining travel, especially in this region.”

From May through September 2024, guests can indulge in the breathtaking views of Alaska from the comfort of an Edge Series ship. The iconic Magic Carpet ® – the world’s first cantilevered, floating platform, at sea – sits on the edge of the ship, creating a new way to dine, drink and connect with the destination, or watch for whales and eagles as you wake up in one of the Infinite Veranda® staterooms as the boundaries between inside and outside are erased.

Celebrity Edge will sail roundtrip from Seattle and one-way between Vancouver to Seattle on six- and seven-night journeys. Itineraries include visits to the region’s top spots, with experiences in Ketchikan also known as the “Salmon Capital of the World,” the Endicott Arm to spot the local wildlife including brown bears, bald eagles, sea ducks, deer, moose, and wolves, Alaska’s capital Juneau and Skagway before heading to Victoria through the Inside Passage and then returning to Seattle.

Some of the features guests of Celebrity Edge can indulge in include:

  • Transformational accommodations, from modern two-story Edge Villas with plunge pools to staterooms with Infinite Verandas. Blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor living, the Infinite Veranda takes you right to the water’s edge, giving guests open air access to the sea with the touch of a button.
  • The Retreat, exclusive to all suite guests, with its private restaurant, and exclusive lounge and sundeck. In addition, a dedicated team of butlers, attendants, and concierges on-hand 24/7, ensures everything is taken care of while on vacation.
  • An unrivalled culinary repertoire of 29 distinct restaurants, bars, and lounges connecting guests to the destinations they will visit like never before. Globally inspired menus crafted by a Michelin-star chef bring the flavors of the world straight to the plate, providing an epicurean journey unmatched at sea.
  • Unique spaces unlike anything else at sea, including The Magic Carpet - the world’s first cantilevered, floating platform, soaring above the sea - and Eden - three levels of sensory experiences wrapped in glass, both offer a mix of culinary and entertainment options with panoramic views.
  • Multi-use, transformative spaces to gather, such as The Grand Plaza offering a majestic, open, three-story venue inspired by the piazzas of Italy and housing incredible specialty restaurants, the popular Martini Bar, Cafe al Bacio, and the new Grand Plaza Cafe.

Celebrity’s award-winning ships, Celebrity Edge , Celebrity Summit® and Celebrity Solstice® , will offer 57 sailings and an array of six- to seven-night itineraries from May to September 2024.

Community Impact Celebrity Cruises, as part of Royal Caribbean Group, engages port communities across Alaska through its Sea the Future commitment to sustain the planet, energize communities and accelerate innovation while delivering the best vacations responsibly.  Key initiatives include:

  • Grand Opening - Ketchikan Salmon Walk: In partnership with the Tongass Historical Museum, the Ketchikan Salmon Walk recently opened this summer, offering vacationers a unique opportunity to delve into the tale of the salmon migration and life cycle in Ketchikan Creek. The nearly two-mile walk is equipped with upgraded lighting and pavement, as well as engaging placards with art by renowned artists like Ray Troll, Nathan Jackson and Marvin Oliver.
  • A taste of Alaska through local sourcing: Committed to fostering relationships with Alaska businesses, guests are offered access to a variety of Alaska-owned products, retailers, excursions, and experiences. Established partnerships with Skagway Spirits, Seafood Producers Cooperative and Alaska Specialty Seafood, sourcing fresh seafood and other local items across its brands. These local partnerships highlight the group’s dedication to connecting with local cultures and supporting economic vibrancy while creating an authentic Alaska experience for guests.
  • Renewed Commitment - Sitka Sound Science Center: The Sitka Sound Science Center’s Scientists in the Schools (SIS) program enables local scientists to partner with students in K-12 classrooms to explore science and ecosystems. This initiative aims to foster a passion and appreciation for science and nature among Sitka’s youth while creating a meaningful educational experience. The program incorporates classroom visits from scientists into the curriculum at each grade level in Sitka schools, creating a pipeline of scientific experiences during the entire academic career of Sitka’s K-12 students. The program benefited 960 students from nine schools last year with the support of the cruise company.
  • “Locals Onboard” – Voyij.com Partnership: Over the past three cruising seasons, the partnership with Skagway-based Voyij.com has driven more than $1 million in sales to local businesses in Alaska. The two teamed up in 2021 to help connect ship guests to the online marketplace where Alaska businesses, retailers and artists sell their crafts. More than 250 small businesses and artists across more than 45 communities from all regions of the state are listed on Voyij.com.

Since there are quite a few different options for a Celebrity cruise to Alaska, here is a breakdown of what you need to know when choosing an unforgettable Alaska cruise vacation.

Celebrity’s sailings to Alaska

Family excursion

All of Celebrity's cruises to Alaska are 6 or 7 days, although there is the option to add land tours on southbound or northbound itineraries, with as much as a week to explore the interior region and Alaska in more depth. Embarkation for Celebrity’s Alaska cruises includes major port cities like Seattle and Vancouver or Seward , Alaska, for southbound sailings. Seattle can be very convenient for departure as it has many affordable flight options. For those who depart from Vancouver, a passport is required to fly into this Canadian port from the United States.

Celebrity’s Alaska itineraries

Dawes

Celebrity has numerous sailings throughout the Alaska cruise season with 8 different itineraries that sail both the Inside Passage and Gulf Of Alaska.

Most Celebrity's cruises are weeklong cruises, sailing roundtrip from Seattle or Vancouver. Celebrity also has its “Alaska Dawes Glacier" cruises, which are one-way cruises, either northbound or southbound, starting or ending in Seward, Alaska. The cruise line also offers a 6-night sailing.

Celebrity sails to several ports of call, including Ketchikan , Sitka , Juneau , Icy Strait Point , Skagway , Victoria, and Vancouver, Canada, with numerous excursion options. Celebrity’s Alaska excursions

Bear

They also have Private Journeys, where the cruise line can create your own specific excursion that meets your interests and schedule. Another good option are their smaller group tours, which enhance the onshore experience without the hassles of dealing with being part of a larger group. Some highlights include:

  • See, learn, and interact with wildlife, including the majestic whales of the region, such as humpbacks and orcas, with a number of guided excursions on luxury catamarans, Zodiacs, and special safari vessels that visit well-known feeding grounds for whales.

  • Try some of the tastiest local cruising, including feasting on the freshest line-caught salmon, grilled to perfection and served in park-like outdoor settings or rustic lodges in view of a massive glacier.

Celebrity’s add-on land tours

Train

Celebrity's add-on land tours, "cruise tours" as they refer to it, give guests the opportunity to extend their cruise by as much as a week. On land, cruisers stay in authentic lodges and travel remote roads and railways in deluxe motor coaches and on a luxurious train with domed glass ceilings enough to places like Anchorage , Talkeetna, Denali , Fairbanks , Homer, and Alyeska.

Accommodations for land tours are among the best lodgings available in the Alaksa interior with boutique style and local properties range from the luxurious Alyeska Resort, whose amenities include a heated pool with mountain views, to the charmingly rustic Denali Park Village, whose buildings are tucked into a forested 20-acre site along the Nenana River.

Another highlight for land tours is the Wilderness Express, where passengers travel from Anchorage to Fairbanks with 360-degree windows and onboard cuisine.

What to know when picking a Celebrity cruise to Alaska

Fjord

Celebrity is known for its sophisticated ships and focus on service. For those who love upscale ship amenities while cruising Alaska, Celebrity is a great choice. The cruise line provides for a more quiet and relaxed cruise experience. With a couple of different ships to choose from, including the popular Celebrity Edge, it can make for a perfect Alaska cruise vacation. Some points to consider when booking a Celebrity cruise for your Alaska cruise vacation:

  • Many Celebrity cruises tend to be popular with the 40/50+ age demographic, but families are welcome. While they do have complimentary kids programs onboard. Their ships do lack many of the bells and whistles, such as sky-high slides, waterparks, splash pads, and rock climbing. This is something to consider for families traveling with kids who may miss those signature onboard activities found on Carnival Cruise Line , Norwegian Cruise Line, and Royal Caribbean ships.
  • Celebrity cruise fares can be higher priced than the other major cruise lines, but they do offer a number of ongoing promotions, which makes it more affordable than people might think. Currently, there are cruises for the 2024 Alaska season that start as low as $295 per person for a weeklong cruise.
  • North or southbound cruises provide add-on tours, which can be a great way to explore in more depth, especially areas in the interior that are farther from cruise ports of call. Celebrity arranges all of the transportation, including trains, high end logging, and expert guides to accompany the tours.
  • Celebrity has a wide variety of cabin options, including luxurious suites, for those who want to splurge, with incredible in-cabin views of Alaska.

Celebrity cruises first-ever edge series alaska itineraries set sail.

Celebrity Cruises elevates bucket list experiences on Celebrity Edge whilst energizing communities with impact projects in Alaska

MIAMI , May 17, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- For the first time ever, Celebrity Edge® , the ship that introduced the revolutionary outward-facing design, calls Alaska home for the summer. Today, Celebrity Edge will embark on her maiden sailing roundtrip from Seattle on a seven-night Dawes Glacier itinerary with stops in Juneau , Ketchikan , and Skagway . Through its unique outward facing design, Celebrity Edge will offer guests an unmatched immersive experience as they take in the awe-inspiring Alaskan glaciers.

"There's no better way to see the pristine Alaskan wilderness than onboard Celebrity Edge , which was specifically designed to create a closer connection between guests and destinations," said Laura Hodges Bethge, President of Celebrity Cruises. "Our elevated vacation options are redefining travel, especially in this region."

From May through September 2024 , guests can indulge in the breathtaking views of Alaska from the comfort of an Edge Series ship. The iconic Magic Carpet ® – the world's first cantilevered, floating platform, at sea – sits on the edge of the ship, creating a new way to dine, drink and connect with the destination, or watch for whales and eagles as you wake up in one of the Infinite Veranda® staterooms as the boundaries between inside and outside are erased.

Celebrity Edge will sail roundtrip from Seattle and one-way between Vancouver to Seattle on six- and seven-night journeys. Itineraries include visits to the region's top spots, with experiences in Ketchikan also known as the "Salmon Capital of the World," the Endicott Arm to spot the local wildlife including brown bears, bald eagles, sea ducks, deer, moose, and wolves, Alaska's capital Juneau and Skagway before heading to Victoria through the Inside Passage and then returning to Seattle .

Some of the features guests of Celebrity Edge can indulge in include:

Transformational accommodations, from modern two-story Edge Villas with plunge pools to staterooms with Infinite Verandas. Blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor living, the Infinite Veranda takes you right to the water's edge, giving guests open air access to the sea with the touch of a button.

The Retreat, exclusive to all suite guests, with its private restaurant, and exclusive lounge and sundeck. In addition, a dedicated team of butlers, attendants, and concierges on-hand 24/7, ensures everything is taken care of while on vacation.

An unrivalled culinary repertoire of 29 distinct restaurants, bars, and lounges connecting guests to the destinations they will visit like never before. Globally inspired menus crafted by a Michelin-star chef bring the flavors of the world straight to the plate, providing an epicurean journey unmatched at sea.

Unique spaces unlike anything else at sea, including The Magic Carpet - the world's first cantilevered, floating platform, soaring above the sea - and Eden - three levels of sensory experiences wrapped in glass, both offer a mix of culinary and entertainment options with panoramic views.

Multi-use, transformative spaces to gather, such as The Grand Plaza offering a majestic, open, three-story venue inspired by the piazzas of Italy and housing incredible specialty restaurants, the popular Martini Bar, Cafe al Bacio, and the new Grand Plaza Cafe.

Celebrity's award-winning ships, Celebrity Edge , Celebrity Summit® and Celebrity Solstice® , will offer 57 sailings and an array of six- to seven-night itineraries from May to September 2024 .

A taste of Alaska through local sourcing: Committed to fostering relationships with Alaska businesses, guests are offered access to a variety of Alaska -owned products, retailers, excursions, and experiences. Established partnerships with Skagway Spirits, Seafood Producers Cooperative and Alaska Specialty Seafood, sourcing fresh seafood and other local items across its brands. These local partnerships highlight the group's dedication to connecting with local cultures and supporting economic vibrancy while creating an authentic Alaska experience for guests.

Renewed Commitment - Sitka Sound Science Center: The Sitka Sound Science Center's Scientists in the Schools (SIS) program enables local scientists to partner with students in K-12 classrooms to explore science and ecosystems. This initiative aims to foster a passion and appreciation for science and nature among Sitka's youth while creating a meaningful educational experience. Understanding Alaska Cruise Routes

When booking an Alaska cruise for sightseeing, understanding the different routes is crucial to ensure you get the most out of your experience. Here’s a breakdown of the key routes to consider:

Inside Passage

The Inside Passage is a popular route known for its stunning coastal scenery, lush forests, and diverse wildlife. You’ll sail along calm waters, passing by charming towns and majestic fjords. This route is ideal for those seeking a more relaxed journey with ample opportunities for wildlife viewing, including orcas, seals, and sea lions.

Glacier Bay National Park & Preserve

Cruising through Glacier Bay National Park & Preserve offers a unique chance to witness the awe-inspiring beauty of glaciers up close. As you navigate through icy waters, you’ll be surrounded by towering ice formations and possibly catch a glimpse of calving glaciers. This route provides a deep dive into Alaska’s icy wonders, making it a must-see for nature enthusiasts.

Gulf of Alaska

For those looking for a more adventurous cruise experience, the Gulf of Alaska route delivers a mix of rugged coastlines, snow-capped mountains, and wildlife encounters. This route often includes visits to ports like Seward and Kodiak, offering opportunities for outdoor excursions such as hiking, fishing, and even bear watching. If you’re after a taste of Alaska’s untamed wilderness, the Gulf of Alaska route won’t disappoint.

Understanding these Alaska cruise routes will help you choose the itinerary that best suits your sightseeing preferences. Whether you opt for the tranquility of the Inside Passage, the icy wonders of Glacier Bay, or the rugged beauty of the Gulf of Alaska, each route promises a memorable and picturesque voyage through Alaska’s breathtaking landscapes.

Key Factors to Consider When Choosing a Sightseeing Cruise

When selecting a sightseeing cruise in Alaska, several key factors can enhance your experience and ensure you make the most of your journey. Consider the following aspects to narrow down the options and find the best Alaska cruise for your sightseeing adventure.

Duration and Itineraries

  • Opt for longer cruises: Longer-duration cruises typically offer more time to explore different destinations and enjoy a variety of sightseeing opportunities along the way.
  • Look for diverse itineraries: Choose cruises that cover a range of locations and attractions to maximize your chances of witnessing Alaska’s breathtaking scenery and wildlife.

Size and Type of Ship

  • Choose smaller ships for intimate experiences: Smaller ships can access narrower waterways and provide a closer connection to Alaska’s natural beauty.
  • Consider expedition cruises: Expedition ships offer unique opportunities for exploration, expert-led excursions, and up-close encounters with wildlife.
  • Prioritize onboard amenities that align with your preferences: Whether you enjoy fine dining, spa treatments, or educational lectures, select a cruise that matches your desired onboard experience.
  • Select cruises with relevant activities: Opt for cruises that offer activities such as wildlife watching, glacier treks, or cultural experiences to enhance your sightseeing adventure in Alaska.

By carefully evaluating these key factors, you can choose an Alaska cruise tailored to your sightseeing interests, ensuring a memorable and fulfilling journey through the stunning landscapes of the Last Frontier.

Top Alaska Cruises for Sightseeing

When selecting an Alaska cruise for sightseeing, considering different cruise lines can greatly impact your experience. Below are some recommendations based on the type of cruise line to help you make the most of your sightseeing adventure in Alaska.

Large Cruise Lines

If you prefer a more traditional cruise experience with a wide range of onboard amenities and entertainment options, large cruise lines like Princess Cruises and Holland America Line are great choices. These cruises typically have larger ships that offer various dining choices, entertainment shows, and shopping opportunities. While the focus may not solely be on sightseeing, you’ll still get to witness Alaska’s stunning scenery from the comfort of your cabin or the ship’s deck.

Small Boutique Cruises

For a more intimate and personalized sightseeing experience, consider small boutique cruises like UnCruise Adventures or Windstar Cruises. These cruises operate smaller ships, providing a more immersive journey into Alaska’s wilderness. With fewer passengers on board, you can enjoy more personalized service, unique excursions, and closer encounters with Alaska’s wildlife. Small boutique cruises often tailor their itineraries to focus more on sightseeing and exploration, offering a deeper connection to Alaska’s natural wonders.

Expedition-Style Cruises

If you’re seeking an adventurous and immersive sightseeing experience, expedition-style cruises are ideal for exploring Alaska’s remote regions. Companies such as Lindblad Expeditions and National Geographic Expeditions offer expedition cruises that combine luxury with adventure. These cruises feature expert guides, zodiac excursions, and opportunities for wildlife spotting and nature hikes. Expedition-style cruises prioritize in-depth exploration, allowing you to discover Alaska’s hidden gems and witness its untouched beauty up close.

Choosing the right Alaska cruise line can enhance your sightseeing journey by aligning with your preferences and desired level of immersion in Alaska’s captivating landscapes. Whether you opt for a large cruise line with diverse amenities, a small boutique cruise for a more intimate experience, or an expedition-style cruise for an adventurous exploration, each offers a unique perspective on Alaska’s wonders. Evaluate your priorities and select the cruise line that best suits your sightseeing aspirations for an unforgettable Alaskan adventure.

What to Expect on an Alaska Sightseeing Cruise

Wildlife encounters.

Alaska’s wilderness offers an unparalleled opportunity to witness diverse wildlife in their natural habitat. On an Alaska sightseeing cruise, you’ll have the chance to see majestic creatures like humpback whales breaching, bald eagles soaring overhead, and grizzly bears fishing along the riverbanks. These close encounters with wildlife create unforgettable moments and provide a deeper appreciation for the beauty of the Last Frontier.

Natural Wonders and Glaciers

Prepare to be awestruck by Alaska’s natural wonders and breathtaking glaciers. As you cruise through the icy waters, you’ll witness towering glaciers calving into the sea with thunderous roars. Marvel at the stunning fjords, crystal-clear lakes, and snow-capped mountains that create a landscape unlike any other. Keep your camera ready to capture the ethereal beauty of Alaska’s glaciers and pristine natural surroundings.

Cultural and Historical Stops

Immerse yourself in Alaska’s rich cultural heritage and explore historical sites that offer insight into the state’s vibrant past. During your Alaska sightseeing cruise, you may visit indigenous villages where you can learn about traditional customs and interact with local residents. Delve into the fascinating history of Alaska through visits to museums, heritage centers, and historic towns that preserve the legacy of the region. Discover the unique blend of cultures that contribute to the tapestry of Alaska’s history.

Planning Your Cruise

When planning your Alaska cruise for sightseeing, several key considerations can enhance your experience. Here are some essential aspects to keep in mind:

Best Time to Go

Alaska’s cruise season typically runs from May to September, with each month offering unique advantages. May and September are ideal for smaller crowds and potentially lower prices, but the weather may be cooler, and some attractions could be less accessible. If you prefer warmer temperatures and more daylight hours, June and July are popular choices. August provides a balance between favorable weather and fewer tourists, making it a great compromise.

Booking Excursions and Sightseeing Tours

To make the most of your Alaska sightseeing cruise, consider booking excursions and sightseeing tours in advance. Popular activities include whale watching, glacier trekking, and visiting native cultural centers. Research the available options based on your interests and budget, as some tours may have limited availability or require reservations. By planning ahead, you can ensure you don’t miss out on the experiences that matter most to you.

What to Pack for an Alaska Cruise

Packing for an Alaska cruise requires preparation for varying weather conditions and outdoor activities. Essential items include layered clothing for temperature changes, waterproof gear for rainy days, and sturdy footwear for excursions. Don’t forget to pack binoculars for wildlife viewing, a camera to capture stunning landscapes, and any necessary medications. It’s also a good idea to bring sunscreen, hats, and gloves to protect yourself from the elements while enjoying your sightseeing adventures.

By considering the best time to go, booking excursions in advance, and packing appropriately, you can ensure a well-rounded and enjoyable Alaska cruise experience focused on sightseeing and exploration. Plan ahead, venture into the Last Frontier, and create lasting memories of the natural wonders and wildlife encounters that await you.

You’re now equipped with valuable insights to choose the best Alaska cruise for your sightseeing adventure. Remember to consider factors like itinerary diversity and ship size for a personalized experience. Opting for an expedition cruise can offer you unique exploration opportunities. Plan ahead by selecting the right time to go, booking excursions in advance, and packing appropriately for changing weather conditions. By following these tips, you’ll ensure a memorable and fulfilling Alaska cruise experience focused on sightseeing and discovery in this breathtaking region. Happy cruising!

Carnival Miracle and Carnival Spirit to Alaska in 2026

  • September 4, 2024

Carnival Miracle in Alaska

Carnival Cruise Line recently announced that it’s deploying the Carnival Miracle and the Carnival Spirit in Alaska in the summer of 2026.

According to a press release, the two Spirit-class vessels will offer different itineraries departing from Seattle.

A third ship will offer cruises to Alaska and Canada, departing from San Francisco in 2026, with additional details and itineraries to be revealed this fall, the company added.

Repositioning from Tampa, the Carnival Miracle starts its summer program on April 27, 2026.

Following a ten-night cruise to the Inside Passage, the ship kicks off a series of regular seven-night itineraries on May 7, 2026.

Sailing from Seattle every Thursday, the cruises sail to the Tracy Arm Fjord and include visits to Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan, as well as Victoria.

Before completing its schedule in the region in late September, the ship also offers a nine-night cruise that, according to Carnival, gives guests more time to explore Alaska with an additional visit to Sitka.

Completing a trans-Canal cruise that starts in Mobile, the Carnival Spirit arrives in Seattle on April 28, 2026.

The ship’s 2026 season in Alaska includes regular seven-night cruises that also sail to British Columbia in Canada.

The itinerary includes scenic cruising at the Tracy Arm Fjord, as well as stops in Skagway, Juneau, Ketchikan and Victoria.

Before returning to Mobile in early October, the Spirit also offers a 15-day round-trip Carnival Journeys cruise to Hawaii, with stops in Honolulu, Oahu; Nawiliwili, Kauai; Kahului, Maui; and Hilo, Hawaii, as well as Victoria.

In addition to part of its itineraries in Alaska, Carnival also announced deployment plans for Europe in 2026, with the Carnival Legend spending the summer in the Mediterranean and Northern Europe .

The company also revealed summer itineraries in the Caribbean for some of its ships, including the Carnival Jubilee, the Mardi Gras and the Carnival Celebration .
