Rammstein Announce New Album Zeit, Unveil Title Track: Stream

The eight album from the German industrial metal luminaries is out April 29th

Rammstein Announce New Album Zeit, Unveil Title Track: Stream

Rammstein have announced their eighth studio album, Zeit , arriving April 29th. As a preview, the German industrial metal icons have revealed the video for the album’s title track.

The ambitious title track builds from lush, orchestral balladry to Rammstein’s typical brand of crushing industrial metal. It’s accompanied by a cinematic video directed by actor and musician Robert Gwisdek.

Rammstein spent two years recording the “unplanned” album, having entered the French recording studio La Fabrique early on in the pandemic. They were once again assisted by Berlin producer Olsen Involtini.

The surprise album announcement comes as a relief to fans. Last month we reported that a paper shortage across Europe might delay the release of Rammstein’s new album. The band even hinted that it might cancel upcoming live dates if it couldn’t release the LP.

Thankfully, it appears that the paper shortage won’t affect the release of Zeit or Rammstein’s rescheduled 2022 North American stadium tour . The 12-date outing kicks off August 21st in Montreal and runs through an October 4th show in Mexico City, with tickets available via Ticketmaster .

You can pre-order Rammstein’s new album Zeit at this location . Stream the video for the title track and view the album art below.

Johnny Cash - Songwriter LP

We broke down Rammstein's insane Zeit video and we have some theories

Rammstein tackle existentialism and age with Zeit. Here's our shot-by-shot breakdown of the music video

Rammstein Zeit

Rammstein are still a couple of years off the big 3-0, but the passage of time weighs heavy on the band's new single Zeit . The title-track from the Germans' upcoming eighth studio record, Zeit catches the sextet in an oddly melancholic state, with lyrics (translated into English) like ' Time, please stand still, stand still/Time this should always go on so/time, it is so beautiful, so beautiful' driving the point home against a piano-led balladic accompaniment.

This being Rammstein, though, the band still went all-in for the single's accompanying music video , which attracted 40,000 viewers just for its premiere. Directed by actor and musician Robert Gwisdek, Zeit lays the poetic allegories on thick with more symbolism than you can shake a Sigmund Freud at. With that in mind, we cracked out our English GCSE analytical skills and dug deep into Zeit 's many layers to try and decipher what it all means.

Metal Hammer line break

0:00 - 0:05

It's the Rammstein logo, but underwater. Not a fat lot to say about that, so far as it being an establishing shot and all, but the fact Rammstein don't often flash their name up at the start of videos might be worthy of note. They didn't quite do a self-titled record in 2019, but Untitled isn't a million miles away and the overall reflective tone of Zeit has us wondering if the band are stripping away some of the bombast and artifice they've built up over the past 30 years, offering a more intimate look at the band. Maybe.

0:06 - 0:23

A frayed thread floats up through the shot. With Rammstein, a cigar is never just a cigar, so considering the song's wider focus on time we're guessing this is an allegory for the thread of life, as per Greek mythology. It's extremely frayed but still drifts on through the ocean, which itself could be representative of the ocean of time. Like we said, layers .

0:24 - 0:37

Bodies - or to be exact, Rammstein 's bodies - are in the water. Unlike the thread (which continues to climb through the shot) the band appear to be almost motionless (as you can be, floating in water at least), preserved in a state of suspended animation. The threads continues to drift up, then coils around one of the member's (Christoph Schneider, we think) neck - again, if the cord is 'the thread of life', here it serves as a noose. Ominous...

0:38 - 0:57

Close-up shots of the band still adrift in the water, but we then get a low shot and can see what is happening outside of our immediate frame of vision. The water above is utter chaos, a raging maelstrom just above their heads. Considering the state of the outside world right now, we don't need to think too hard about what that could all be about.

0:58 - 1:23

There's a boat floating overhead and the band start moving in reverse - it looks like the chaos is what threw them into the sea in the first place, but now they're sucked back up above the surface. Could easily be read as a reference to the pandemic - they were thrown into a state of suspended animation, but now the chaos is back and they're about to start moving again.

1:24 - 1:37

The band are back on a boat and raging against the tides of time, but fighting a losing battle. We've all been there.

1:38 - 1:40

A mysterious figure stands immobile on the waters and the band are awed. We are too, as the shot is utterly gorgeous, similar to the famous Washington Crossing The Delaware painting, which incidentally was done by German-American artist Emanuel Leutze. Nice link.

Who the mysterious figure is, is anyone's guess. It could well be an anthropomorphised depiction of time, which admittedly would fit in with the wider themes of the video. It could also be an iteration of death (again, it fits to an extent with the running theme). It also looks suspiciously like something we'd see in a Sleep Token video. They've already infiltrated Muse, so why not Rammstein?

1:41 - 1:56

The scene shifts and now Rammstein aren't sailors, they're soldiers. They stalk through woodland in various states of distress; some are wounded, all look haggard and at least one looks to have kicked the bucket. Till Lindemann hides from shadowy figures just above (which makes us a bit nostalgic for the iconic scene between Frodo and the Ringwraiths in Fellowship Of The Ring ). If we were picking up on the thread from the previous scenario, the band aren't just fighting the tides of time - they are actively at war with it.

1:57 - 2:22

Some reverse action again - Christopher Nolan would be proud. The band are blasted back to life and we get a tense stand-off as the band face off. As the camera pans round, we get some reverse-gore from a gunshot, then a swoop back as the shooters are replaced with children holding sticks like rifles. Stepping out of the direct 'Rammstein vs time' narrative the rest of the video has followed thus far, this sequence feels especially poignant - kids playing war games and then fighting (and dying) at war.

The camera continues to close in and swoop out, revealing the rest of the band are now also children holding sticks, only this time they're trained on some bundled babies on the floor. Slipping back in to the wider video themes, we might guess that this is Rammstein telling us that the fight against time is something we're part of from birth.

2:23 - 2:26

The weird Sleep Token-y figure is back, looming over the older Rammstein children. We get a close up of the babies and the kids slowly lower their rifles...

2:27 - 2:33

The cloaked figure emerges from a falling column of sand with a Rammstein baby. Behind it, two similar-looking figures also emerge clutching babies. We can guess these sands are representative of the sands of time, adding another poetic allegory to the ever-expanding list. If the figure is death/time, this appears to be its realm. It's all very Terry Pratchett, albeit with more German stoicism and no Binky in sight.

2:34 - 2:55

The figures stand before a group of women giving birth atop a pile of sand. If the sand is time, then perhaps this is Rammstein saying birth is the only way to beat it, in the end. The women are blindfolded and attended to by similarly blindfolded members of Rammstein, who appear to be putting the babies back. Lovely. The sand falling behind them makes it look almost like they are in a giant hourglass, particularly as above them is a mirror image of the same scene.

2:56 - 3:10

You didn't think this was all poetry and symbolism, did you? Nope, this is Rammstein so we get a very graphic shot of childbirth. Miracle or no, we reckon an NSFW warning wouldn't have gone amiss.

3:11 - 3:18

We're pretty sure that's Till Lindemann again, but its hard to tell as he's getting completely buried by rushing sand/dust. He struggles against it, but to no avail.

3:19 - 3:34

Other members of the band take the crushing sands a lot more in stride, sitting patiently as it covers them completely. Is it a reflection of their feelings on the passage of time? Who knows... We get a great group shot the band all together however, unmoving as the sand falls down and covers them. Considering they have had the same line-up for almost 30 years, we can guess this is a reflection of how time moves on but Rammstein stay the same.

3:35 - 3:44

Our cloaked friends turn up again with the babies still in tow, we get one last shot of a dust-covered member of Rammstein and everything fades to black, perfectly in time with the music. Ah yes, this was a music video, wasn't it?

3:45 - 4:01

A change of scenery again, and this time Rammstein are old-timey farmers, working in a field of wheat. The use of scythes to reap the wheat feels pretty on-the-nose by this point - the band are time/death and the wheat is humanity, right? Oliver Riedel sits apart from the band holding his daughter close when he notices the real time/death lurking in the woods nearby. Ah, maybe not then.

4:02 - 4:22

The daughter walks through the fields towards the figure and Oliver jumps up to intervene,  she closes in and we get a slo-mo shot of Oliver looking agonised, collapsing to his knees as she is enveloped in the mysterious figure's cloak.

4:23 - 4:35

The figure and the daughter emerge into the sand realm and we cut back to the field, where she lies dead. There's another stunning shot, this time of the figure looking up, its glowing masks surrounded by the darkness of the swirling sands all around it.

4:36 - 4:53

Another backwards shot, as crumbled sand comes back together to reveal the band's faces as sand sculptures. The sculptures look suspiciously like death masks... We get another shot of Oliver carrying the daughter's body past the other members of the band and back in the sand realm, an utterly incredible sculpture which looks like Renaissance art. In it, a hooded figure looms over a mother, father and baby (all blindfolded), while elsewhere we see a family and what looks like a wheel (another 'time' allegory perhaps, with the wheel of time).

4:54 - 5:18

The daughter and the figure are back in the sand realm. She approaches the sand (which continues to flow in reverse) and puts her hands in it, before submerging herself completely. For a while we can see her silhouette but then she disappears completely. The phrase 'ashes to ashes, dust to dust' comes to mind...

5:19 onwards

And that's it, the main body of the video finished. We get a better look at the sand masks of the band and shots from the video over the credits, but its all fairly straightforward, though again it feels significant that the band reiterate their identity right before the credits roll. It's no small feat keeping the same six guys together for almost 30 years and with the retrospective vibe of Zeit as a whole, it seems to bring everything back home for this album marking the passage of time. For exactly what it means in the album's wider context however, we've got a few more weeks to wait yet...

Information

The first information about the band being in the studio again, came from the official Facebook and Instagram profiles, where the band posted two different photos on 7 October 2020. [1] [2]

The first mention of a new studio album came from Flake on 5 February 2021, when he was quoted in an interview with the label Motor: [3]

By not being able to perform live, our creativity increased. We had more time to think of new things and less distractions. As a result, we recorded a record that we had not planned in this way. [...] Our themes are generally from daily life and world events and there is always something happening. Our topic is basically the craziness of the people and it is not much different in Corona times than in normal times. So Donald Trump was also very present last year, you could also take a lot of traits and from the people in general, how they behaved in the lockdown. So the sources of inspiration are actually always there. Most of the things you deal with take place in your own head in the end anyway. Only small impulses come from outside, and there's enough coming through when the streets are only half as full.

Another studio update followed on 31 March 2021, when Sven Helbig posted a photo on Instagram. [4]

The next update was given also by Sven Helbig. On 7 February 2022, the German newspaper "Säschische" released an interview with him, in which he said, that the album release date would be unknown, even to the band, because of the lack of paper. [5] On 8 March 2022, the album was announced.

On 8 March 2022, the premiere for the first video off the album, Zeit , was announced with a teaser on all social media platforms. Shortly after a story was shared with coordinates leading to Kesselhaus in Berlin, a venue where Rammstein has played back in 1994. Fans arriving on location were met with a promotional van and Universal Music employees sporting Zeit -themed merchandise, who handed out flyers.

rammstein tour zeit

At the premiere link on YouTube, the app showed two pre-order links for the single and the album, both accompanied by their front cover artworks. At that point both releases still had no official announcement.

On 9 March, geotargeted posts were issued on their facebook page announcing a sneak peek for fans in Paris and London, both at 19:00 local time. The location in Paris was at Quartier de l'Horloge & Beaubourg, and The Black Heart for London. While fans in London were greeted with a similar promo event like in Berlin the day before, the attendees in Paris saw nothing.

The pre-order of the album started with the premiere of the music video for Zeit . However, the physical formats were discovered several hours early through one of the Amazon referral links. The tracklist wouldn't be known until 21 March, when it was discovered that the Centralamerican dependency of Universal Music had it on their online shop, before it got removed swiftly. To reveal the tracklist officially, Rammstein launched a scavenger hunt, which lead fans to 11 different locations around the world in order to find a "Zeit Capsule". Each finder of such would automatically win 2 tickets to a show of their choice, accomodation and travel to it as well as a signed special edition of the album. On 25 March at 15:00 CET, the first 7 locations were displayed as coordinates on their homepage. By entering a code taken from the actual capsule (a slightly customized ammunition box filled with sand, a signed album sleeve of the regular edition and a laminated pass) the title bound to the location it was found at would get revealed. The remaining 4 locations were revealed on 28 March at 14:00 CET.

The album artwork was shot by Canadian musician/photographer Bryan Adams. It shows the Rammstein band members descending the stairs of the Trudelturm, located in Adlershof, Berlin, Germany. Built in 1934 for aviation research, the Trudelturm is a spin tower. It pioneered lab simulations of spins. Crucial for understanding spin dynamics, it aided in intercepting and regaining control of free-falling planes.

In an interview for the German Rolling Stone magazine, Adams revealed that he had to convince Till Lindemann to use the photo for the album cover. "When we were doing the cover, I said to Till Lindemann: "See that tower over there? That's your album cover!" He just said: "Hm, yeah, maybe". I got the band to walk around on it. I just thought: "Man, that's so good, I'd love to have that for my own album cover"." said Adams. [6]

From 11 April onwards, several cinemas around the world listed an exclusive pre-listening event of the whole album in Dolby Atmos for the evening of 28 April. The screening would include the premiere of a third music video, while the other eight songs would feature specially commissioned visuals. A week ahead of the event, on 21 April, the band announced it themselves, revealing the third music video in question to be for Angst and providing a list of all participating cinemas on their homepage. [7] A video teaser for the screenings was posted on 24 April, containing a snippet of Dicke Titten . [8]

RAMMSTEIN Announces “Zeit” Album; Reveal Video For Title Track

rammstein tour zeit

German industrial metallers RAMMSTEIN will release their new album, “Zeit” , on April 29. The official music video the LP’s title track, a powerful ballad that builds to a towering epic, can be seen below. The spectacular clip was directed by actor and musician Robert Gwisdek , collaborating here with the band for the first time.

Till Lindemann (vocals), Paul Landers (guitar), Richard Z. Kruspe (guitar), Flake (keyboards), Oliver Riedel (bass) and Christoph Schneider (drums) spent two years working on the eleven songs on the new album. They were once again assisted by Berlin producer Olsen Involtini . “Zeit” was recorded at La Fabrique Studios in St. Rémy de Provence, France.

Bryan Adams managed to get a special scoop for the cover of the new album. The Canadian musician and photographer took the shot of RAMMSTEIN on the steps of the Trudelturm in Berlin Adlershof, an imposing monument to aerial research in the city’s Aerodynamic Park.

Today the eponymous first single is released as a 10-inch gatefold black vinyl, on CD digipack and in digital format.

Lindemann ‘s commanding baritone resonates over solemn piano chords and an angelic chorus of sirens. The song deals with transience, our mortality and the precious, fleeting happiness of the perfect moment. “Time, please stand still, stand still,” Lindemann laments and implores. “Time, this should always go on so/Time, it’s so beautiful, so beautiful/Anyone knows the perfect moment.”

After an epic like this, you need a moment’s rest, and RAMMSTEIN give it to us. Fans can look forward to a total of three versions of “Zeit” .

For the B-sides, the band is releasing a meditative, atmospheric neoclassical arrangement by Grammy -nominated Icelandic multi-instrumentalist Ólafur Arnalds , as well as a remix by electro producer Robot Koch .

Over the course of a career spanning almost 30 years, RAMMSTEIN has sold more than 20 million albums around the world and played countless spectacular, groundbreaking tours. When the band’s sold-out stadium tour had to be postponed due to the pandemic, RAMMSTEIN used the time to work on their new album.

RAMMSTEIN fans can look forward to multiple “Zeit” formats. The new album will be released as a standard CD in a digipack with a 20-page booklet, a special edition CD in a 6-panel digipack with a 56-page booklet including slipcase, and as a double 180g vinyl LP with a 20-page large-format booklet, as well as in the usual digital formats. Preorder “Zeit” HERE .

RAMMSTEIN is scheduled to kick off the European leg of the band’s 2022 tour on May 15 in Prague, Czech Republic. A North American stadium run will begin on August 21 in Montreal and end on October 4 in Mexico City.

Till Lindemann wears thick glasses while looking down in a photo.

Till Lindemann is leaving Rammstein behind in 2024.

Starting in September, the bombastic frontman will embark on his first solo U.S. tour with special guests Twin Temple and Aesthetic Perfection in support of his 2023 solo album “Zunge.”

Midway through the fall run, the 61-year-old drops into New York’s The Rooftop at Pier 17 on Tuesday, Oct. 1.

While this will be Lindemann’s first solo stateside jaunt, it won’t be the first time he’s performed without Rammstein.

Most recently, he wrapped an international 2023-24 solo tour in Mexico, according to Set List FM . On that run, he regularly performed 19 songs — including two encores — per show.

While we can’t guarantee what he’ll bring to the stage on his forthcoming North American tour, we do know the best way to find out is live.

Can’t wait to see the lively Lindemann?

You’re in luck. Tickets can be snagged for all of his 2024 U.S. and Canada concerts and festival appearances as soon as today.

Although inventory isn’t available on Ticketmaster until Friday, April 26, fans who want to ensure they have tickets ahead of time can purchase on sites like Vivid Seats before tickets are officially on sale.

Vivid Seats is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They have a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and will be delivered before the event.

Till Lindemann tour schedule 2024

A complete calendar including all tour dates, venues, and links to buy tickets can be found below.

Till Lindemann festival appearances

This September and October, Lindemann will lend his talents to a pair of heavy multi-day musical extravaganzas.

For a closer look, here are the dates, venues and fellow headliners at both festivals.

Till Lindemann set list

As noted above, Lindemann wrapped his 2023-24 in Mexico on Jan. 4.

Here’s what he performed that night, courtesy of Set List FM .

01.) “Zunge” 02.) “Schweiss” 03.) “Fat” 04.) “Altes Fleisch” 05.) “Allesfresser” 06.) “Golden Shower” 07.) “Tanzlehrerin” 08.) “Ich weiß es nicht” 09.) “Sport frei” 10.) “Blut” 11.) “Praise Abort” 12.) “Platz Eins” 13.) “Fish On” 14.) “Gummi” 15.) “Steh auf” Encore

16.) “Knebel” 17.) “Ich hasse Kinder” 18.) “Skills in Pills” Encore II

19.) “Entre dos tierras” (Héroes del Silencio cover)

Till Lindemann new music

On Nov. 3, 2023, Lindemann dropped his solo album “Zunge.”

Comprised of 11 tracks, the heavy rocker stretches his musical muscles and alternates between intimate quiet and chaotic, epic loud — the sound Rammstein is known for — with ease.

Highlights include the quirky “Sports Frei,” thumping “Altes Fleisch” and the warbly anthem “Du hast kein Herz.”

Personally, we were most taken with the Ennio Morricone-esque “Tanzlehrerin” with its guitar licks, yearning vocals and gifted yet pained backing singer giving her all behind Lindemann.

Don’t sleep on the shockingly fun album closer “Selbst verliebt,” either. It’s an unexpected pop delicacy.

Want to hear for yourself?

You can listen to “Zunge” in its entirety here .

On Christmas 2023, Lindemann followed up the album release with the whirly, tongue-trilling single “Entre dos tierras” en español.

It has our stamp of approval as well; the song is quite a bit of fun.

Till Lindemann special guests

At all shows, Lindemann will be joined by a pair of opening acts.

To make sure you’re acquainted with their sounds, you can find each band’s most-streamed song on Spotify below.

Twin Temple: “Lucifer, My Love”

Aesthetic Perfection: “Spit It Out”

Till Lindemann controversy

Lindemann was accused of sexual assault by a female fan last June over social media. She alleged he drugged her at a pre-show Rammstein VIP party in Lithuania and later approached her fox sex during intermission.

This led to a backlash against Rammstein’s “VIP Experience;” fans believed Lindemann was using the ticket tier to bed fans.

After looking into the case, German prosecutors dropped the case due to a lack of evidence and testimony.

“The rapid termination of investigative proceedings by the Berlin state prosecutor’s office shows that there is insufficient evidence that our client allegedly committed sexual offen(s)es,” Lindemann’s lawyers said.

Rammstein drummer claimed Lindemann “has distanced himself from us in recent years and created his own bubble” and “things seem to have happened that, although legally ok, I personally don’t think are ok.”

Huge metal acts on tour in 2024

If Lindemann’s brief jaunt isn’t coming to a venue near you, we have just the solution.

Here are five metal acts that might be headed to your city these next few months.

•  Rob Zombie with Alice Cooper

•  Limp Bizkit

The 2019 and 2020 (moved to 2022) tours were intended to support Untitled. When Zeit was released, people justified the relatively low number of Zeit songs in the 2022 setlist (just 4) as being because it was a tour for Untitled.
