Welcome to Canada

Canada is a country that feeds the souls of nature lovers and provides a depth of thinking to those culturally curious. From the rock candy mountains of Western Canada, to the sparkling European-flavored capital cities of the east, this is a destination we behold in our roots and continued to be inspired by.

Experiencing the best of eastern canada.

In Canada's eastern provinces, our ninety plus years of experience means introducing you to the breathtaking coastal landscapes of Nova Scotia's Cabot Trail. Or taking a cruise to feel the mists of Niagara Falls. It's about indulging in a Celtic "kitchen party" on Cape Breton Island and a cider tasting in Quebec. It includes rug-making and scallop traditions in the Maritimes, visiting Anne of Green Gables' backyard on Prince Edward Island, an evening at the Citadel in Halifax, and many more regional experiences in Ontario, Quebec and the Maritime Provinces.

Welcome to Western Canada

West and north of Canada's cosmopolitan capital cities lies some of the most beautiful scenery in the world, protected in stunning national parks dressed in jeweled lakes, iced mountains and wilderness playgrounds. Experiencing it with Tauck means stays in grand resorts, eye-opening walks on the wild side, and insights that inspire your daily discoveries. Whether you're exploring an icy glacier, peering at polar bears, flightseeing over the Gulf Islands or taking in the sights by rail, river raft, or from atop a lookout in the Canadian Rockies, Tauck's expert perspectives enrich the view.

Toronto, Ontario

Immersing in the multicultural mix of canada's largest city.

On the northwestern edge of Lake Ontario, Canada's largest city – Toronto, Ontario – offers a vibrant mix of markets, museums, green parks, great food, drink and jazz. With Tauck, a stay at one of the city's most popular hotels puts you at the center of it all...

Traverse the Welland Canal

A marvel of engineering two centuries in the making....

Comprising eight locks that enable ship traffic to travel between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario by bypassing the Niagara River and Niagara Falls, the Welland Canal is a 200-year engineering marvel that actually represents four successive canals. Originally designed and built in the 1820s, a second canal replaced it in the late 1840s, and a third opened in 1887. The construction on the fourth and current Welland Canal – which your ship on "Cruising the Great Lakes" will traverse in about 11 hours, accompanied by an expert guide – began before World War I was not completed until 1932 and expanded some 40 years later.

Canada ski vacations and ski tours in British Columbia

Save on your ski tour by using your ikon pass in canada or epic pass in canada .

If ski vacations and world class snow are your thing, come along on a Fresh Adventures ski tour to experience legendary British Columbia ski resorts, epic terrain, powder and vibrant ski culture. The Fresh Adventures team have spent years perfecting itineraries for Canada ski tours that allow you to enjoy multiple mountains, so you can experience more in your Western Canada ski vacation . We handle all the transport and provide handpicked accommodations, then amaze you with local secrets, like hot springs that most people would miss on their own. We have dedicated endless days to exploring the mountains so we can show you the best runs to test your legs on during your ski vacation. Plus, skiing just feels better when there is a hot spring to relax in while exchanging stories of the day during your adventure tour.

Fresh Adventures runs a " safari style" ski tour along the famous “Powder Highway ” that takes you to some of British Columbia's heaviest hitters: Revelstoke, Kicking Horse, Whitewater and Red Mountain. Each mountain has a world wide reputation for dependable snow, diverse and playful terrain plus iconic Canadian ski towns at the base of each mountain. Fresh Adventures also runs a Western Canada ski tour that takes you to Banff, where you can ski three of the best Mountains of the Rockies.  During this Canada ski vacation we experience Sunshine Village, Lake Louise and Norquay.  Each have their own million dollar views, excellent weather and snow, plus apres ski that rivals the Alps. Nothing is nicer than an elk steak and gluhwein after a day of skiing above Western Canada's most iconic scenery.

Come camping with Fresh Adventures on Vancouver Island or in the heart of the Rocky Mountains of Banff and Jasper to experience the infamous natural beauty of Western Canada.  We take the headache out of camping with excellent gear, gourmet meals and comfortable campgrounds with all the amenities you could ask for.  Mountains, lakes, waterfalls, giant trees, beaches and wildlife will keep your camera busy, during these small group van adventures. Camping tours are ideal for people who truly want to make the most of the gorgeous British Columbia and Alberta wilderness. Dessert is served with a side of sunset, and breakfasts take place among the fresh morning mist. Lunches are tastier with a glacier or waterfall to admire, and the sleeps are just so much deeper with that spruce smell in the mountain air. A morning shower feels so fresh when it's in a glassy lake with mountains reflecting off the surface all around you. Evenings on these tours are so much more relaxing while chatting with new friends around a warm fire, and the Smores just seem tastier with that smoky taste and the Big Dipper above you.

We run Western Canada camping tours that focus on rafting several different rivers in one trip, as well as general adventure tours that let you experience all the attractions each area has to offer during hikes, cruises, sightseeing and drives.

Why book with an agent

With their training — and being well-traveled themselves — good travel advisers can offer you options you might not have considered . Some travel advisers are generalists; others specialize in niches, such as cruises, or in multigenerational group travel or in particular geographic destinations. If you book a cruise through an agent, he or she is likely to be familiar with various lines, sailings, cabins and excursions. Some agents even have subspecialties, such as riverboat cruising.

Testimonials

September 2022

We wanted to reach out to extend our thanks….thank you for a trip of a lifetime! Our family recently went on a two week private tour to Israel with Peerless, and the experience was fantastic. Planning a multi-generational, international trip, at the height of COVID, was intimidating, however, Eliana ensured that the entire process was easy. Eliana provided invaluable guidance for planning all aspects of our trip – airfare, hotel accommodations, sightseeing, guides, insurance, and food to name but a few. She provided creative and unique ideas to ensure that our trip was seamless, exciting, safe, educational, emotional, and meaningful. Eliana always went above and beyond and had endless patience for our ever-changing needs. The client service and care we received was incredible and we are thrilled with the end result. Since returning from our trip, we have sent several of our friends to Eliana and to Peerless because we are so confident they will be ask happy with their experience as we were.

Thank you!!

How a rail stoppage could affect freight, farming, french fries and more

A railway shutdown would have consequences in big ways and small.

travel companies in canada

Social Sharing

For the first time, Canada's two main railway companies, Canadian National Railway (CN) and Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC), are on the verge of a simultaneous labour stoppage.

The companies say they will start locking out workers in the early hours of Thursday if they cannot reach a deal, while the union says it is ready to call a strike for that day.

The Teamsters union is demanding better wages and benefits, including provisions for fatigue management and better crew scheduling.

The two rail lines play an outsized role in the Canadian economy, moving roughly $1 billion worth of goods per day, according to the Railway Association of Canada.

  • Canada is barrelling towards a massive rail shutdown. Leaders urge railways, union to finalize deal

Here's a look at how a stoppage could affect business, and people's everyday lives.

Getting around

For most people, a freight rail stoppage won't have an immediate impact on how they get around. But more than 32,000 rail commuters could be affected in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver.

Transit authorities say select commuter lines that run on CPKC tracks will be suspended should dispatchers walk off the job alongside 3,200 other workers.

How Toronto transit, businesses could be affected by possible railway strike

The commuter lines affected by the potential work stoppage are TransLink's West Coast Express in the Vancouver area, Metrolinx's Milton line and Hamilton GO station in the Greater Toronto Area, and Exo's Candiac, Saint-Jerome and Vaudreuil/Hudson lines in the Montreal area.

Via Rail would also see service disrupted along a route in northern Ontario that runs through Sudbury, a spokesperson said.

Grocery stores

The threat of a rail stoppage could also have an effect on what we see on grocery store shelves, especially if the dispute drags on.

Already, some perishable food is not being shipped by rail, said Michael Graydon, chief executive officer of Food, Health & Consumer Products of Canada, an industry group.

Graydon said frozen food, such as french fries, could already have stopped being shipped. Meat and fruit such as bananas, which often arrive in Canada by rail after first arriving in the United States, could also be affected, he said.

A bag of frozen fries is seen rolling along a conveyor belt at a factory.

He said parts of Western Canada and Atlantic Canada area likely to be most affected .

Graydon also raised concern the type of "consumer hoarding" we saw during the pandemic could compound any potential shortage and put additional strain on suppliers.

Small businesses

A stoppage would have consequences for many businesses if a strike were to drag on — particularly small ones with a smaller stockpile of goods and fewer options to get more.

Fraser Johnson, a professor at Western University's Ivey Business School specializing in supply chains, said small businesses "don't have the flexibility to be able to redirect freight as large companies."

He said retailers like Walmart can make "contingency plans" to move goods through alternate routes in the U.S. "and back up into Canada to its various stores."

Dan Kelly, president of the Canadian Federation of Independent Businesses, said in some cases small businesses are already feeling the effects.

"The impact would be huge," he said. "Even in retail, there's so many goods that go into Canada that use rail ... to get to their final destination."

'If there's no railcars, there's really no work,' says London business owner

Canada's agricultural sector, particularly in the Prairies, is heavily reliant on rail for shipping out its product.

Stephen Vandervalk, who farms near Fort Macleod, Alta., and is the vice-president of the Wheat Growers Association, called the situation "completely out of control."

"Harvest is right now. We're combining. Bids are dropping daily because elevators don't want grain, and they're stopping deliveries from grain," Vandervalk told CBC .

Fertilizer Canada, an industry advocacy group, warned that even the threat of a work stoppage has taken its toll.

"Farmers around the world rely on Canada's fertilizer industry to maximize crop yields, and the fertilizer industry relies on rail to get our products to market," Karen Proud, head of Fertilizer Canada, said in a statement.

A tractor is pictured.

The supply chain

In addition to the agricultural sector, the automotive sector and Canada's ports would be among those most affected by a stoppage, said Western University's Fraser Johnson.

Johnson said rail is "an integral part of our supply chain that handles, for example, 50 per cent of all Canadian exports, but it's incredibly important to a number of [domestic] industries."

Car manufacturers, for instance, "still receive a lot of components from suppliers via rail and certainly ship out cars from their assembly plants via rail as well," he said.

International shipping giant Maersk said it is making contingency plans, but for now continues to ship goods into Canadian ports.

Rail cars at a yard

Some companies rely exclusively on rail to ship out their product. Toronto's Chemtrade Logistics Inc., for instance, said it  provides chlorine for 40 per cent of Western Canada's drinking water, as well as much of the western United States.

Its product cannot move by truck or ship, and safety regulations cap the amount that can be stockpiled.

Bob Masterson, CEO at the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada, told The Canadian Press if a stoppage were to drag on for more than a week the lack of chlorine shipments could affect the water supply in some municipalities.

Possible consequences

It's unlikely a stoppage could have an immediate effect on the price of goods, said Johnson.

CN went through an eight-day strike by more than 3,000 workers represented by Teamsters Canada in November 2019.

  • How Canada reached the brink of an unprecedented railway stoppage

That strike halted shipments and disrupted industries across the country, but the overall economic impact was still "relatively small,"  according to RBC analysis . RBC found the strike reduced annualized quarterly growth by only 0.1 percentage points.

This time around, a full stoppage of both rail lines for both rail lines would be more consequential, at least on the sectors directly affected, Johnson said.

"The major impact will be the potential for lost sales for businesses and layoffs and lost wages in these areas," he said.

We’ve given you the best business credit cards for travel, but that doesn’t mean you necessarily know how they work—or how to choose the best one among these options. We break down the basics of business credit cards and how to choose one that fits your needs.

What Is a Business Credit Card?

Unlike personal credit cards, business credit cards are like a revolving line of credit for your business and are not for personal expenses. They can separate your personal and business expenses, which helps bookkeeping go smoothly. Employees can also use business credit cards —similar to having an additional authorized user with a personal card—but can have safeguards in place to prevent unnecessary or malicious spending.

How Do Business Credit Cards Work?

Business credit cards work similarly to personal credit cards, though notable differences exist. For one, business credit cards contribute to your business credit report, which lenders use to evaluate your trustworthiness for other financial products. But, your personal credit score is typically also used by lenders, too.

Business credit cards also allow cardholders to add employees as authorized users, unlike personal credit cards that only allow a few additional cards. This allows for greater earning potential, so long as each employee using the card spends on purchases that earn rewards, such as fuel.

Many business credit cards also offer much higher spending caps—or no spending caps at all—given that businesses almost always have higher annual spending than individuals or families. The reward categories are also quite different, with common business expenses usually earning the most rewards, rather than common personal expenses like restaurant, transportation or flight purchases. That said, business travel credit cards usually overlap quite a bit in rewards categories compared to personal travel credit cards .

Benefits and Drawbacks of Business Travel Credit Cards

Though the perks of business credit cards might seem appealing, it’s important to consider the potential cons as well. Here’s a quick review of both the pluses and minuses of these types of cards.

  • Access to more capital. Business cards in general give you greater access to capital than standard personal credit cards, with some having six-figure spending limits—or no pre-set spending limits at all.
  • Extensive benefits. Compared to standard business credit cards, travel cards typically come with more perks such as insurance coverage, access to lounges, travel companion vouchers and more. You can use these benefits to impress potential clients or save a few bucks flying an employee across the country.
  • Non-taxable rewards. As an employer and not an employee, your credit card rewards from travel cards—including cash back—are not taxable, saving you much more. But, be careful with employees redeeming points for themselves—that may be considered a taxable event.
  • High annual fees. Because travel business cards come with more perks, they also come with higher annual fees—some cards cost nearly $800 per year to keep. That can put a dent in your earnings.
  • Incentivize spending, not saving. Though they have impressive rewards, travel cards can incentivize users to spend to earn more rewards, netting them an overall loss due to unnecessary spending. This con can be especially apparent when cards have rewards programs that offer perks for purchasing items with specific vendors. If your business wouldn’t have purchased items from that vendor in the first place, you might be using your card unnecessarily.
  • Employee misuse. Though rare, because employees can use business travel cards, there is the potential for malicious spending.

How To Choose a Business Credit Card for Travel

  • Decide which rewards you want. There are many options to choose from between cash back, Air Miles, Aventura Points, Aeroplan Points and Membership Points. First, decide which reward type best suits your travel needs and then get further details. For example, if you fly almost exclusively with Air Canada, you’ll probably want to use an Aeroplan-based card .
  • Orient your spending with a card’s rewards categories. Before settling on a specific card, review your financials. Review how much you spend per month in common business categories like transportation, gas, office supplies and internet charges. Then, choose a card whose highest earning categories match your highest spending areas.
  • Compare the fine print. Depending on your business model, you might want extra perks such as lounge access to host clients or a travel companion voucher to surprise a staff member. Only some cards offer these features, so read all the fine print you can.
  • Check fees. Even if a rewards card has great earning potential, its rewards can be stunted by a high annual fee or foreign transaction fees . Ensure you know all the costs of a business travel card before applying.

Business Credit Cards: Travel or Cash Back?

Deciding between a cash-back card or a travel rewards card really comes down to how your business uses each reward type. For example: Will you get the most benefit from travel insurance coverage and lounge access or more cash to purchase additional assets?

How To Get the Most Out of Your Business Credit Card

Squeezing the most value out of your business credit card truly comes down to one salient point: Can your everyday spending match the credit card’s highest-earning rewards categories? If you get a business credit card to gain exclusive rewards by spending outside of your usual categories, you’ll be spending money you likely didn’t need to in the first place. This will mitigate—or even negate—any value you would have gotten from the card. Take time to understand your spending habits before applying for a business credit card, then reap the rewards afterward.

What is the best business credit card for Air Miles?

According to our research, the BMO Air Miles World Elite Mastercard is the best business credit card for earning Air Miles.

What is better, a business credit card for cash back or travel?

Using a travel card over a cash-back card depends on how you run your business. If you travel often to meet clients or fly employees around the country, a travel card is likely your best fit—you’ll get the most value from travel insurance and rewards. But if you don’t travel as often and most of your business expenses are related to everyday purchases (e.g. gas, office supplies or internet), a cash-back card will likely give you more value in the long term.

Which no-annual-fee credit card is good for business travel?

Out of all the best business credit cards Forbes Advisor ranked, none of them had no annual fees—but many had annual fee rebates and waivers for the first year. However, if you’re stuck using a no-annual-fee business credit card , the BMO AIR MILES No-Fee Business Mastercard is an option.

I enjoyed the tour and guide was knowledgeable.
The tour guide must be fluent in English; on our last day, we received a Spanish-speaking person and were not sure what information was shared and where we were going in a strange land. The Novotel hotel rooms need modification shower need replacement. On our first day we received mixed confusing information bus driver did not show up and later on bus is broken down, Our tour was delayed for 2 hours. Need to have better communication and plan. Tour guide must come to the hotel early and inform and introduce the group This is a crowded place none of us has no identification tag, group has 60-75 people with one tour guide these things has to change. Bus toilet availability has to be improved. It will be great to inform travellers what to bring according to the weather conditions.

Well organized, appreciated the amount of free time I had. Would have liked to have had a list of my fellow travelers - I'd be satisfied with just first names and city. Although I did have an experience once in a group travel where a woman came up to me and said "your mother was my HS gym teacher". She recognized my last name. She had a different name than in HS. Her sister was in my class. Had we not been given a list of names, we could have travelled for 10 days and never discovered that we knew one another since she we both now lived in different locations than when we were in HS. I have trouble remembering names so I find a listing very helpful in remember names and developing travel relationships
Great trips, great excursions, great tour guides, great hotels, everything one could ask for

If you’re a primary account holder or authorized user, get an International Pass by using your T-Mobile app, logging on to My.T-Mobile.com, or following the link in the welcome text message you get when you enter an eligible country. Also, you can call our Team of Experts ® before your trip by dialing 611 on your mobile device.

Click here  to see if you’re traveling to one of the 215+ countries that gets free data and texting as part of your eligible plan.

You can check your cruise coverage  here . We recommend that you turn off roaming while the ship is docked in a US port. Otherwise, your phone may pick up the ship's network, and you'll be charged cruise ship roaming charges for any usage. Once you're out to sea, you can turn roaming back on and pay for the data, text, and voice you use.

International roaming is a service allowing you to continue using your mobile phone or other mobile device to browse the internet, as well as send and receive: emails, voice calls, and text messages while visiting another country.

The price you pay for Wi-Fi calls to international numbers when you're outside the US, depends on your international roaming option. The good news is, with most of our international roaming add-ons, you'll pay less for these calls than you did before. All Wi-Fi calls to US numbers are free of charge.

Our most popular plans include international texting from home and while traveling. Click here  to see if you’re traveling to one of the 215+ countries and destinations that gets data and texting as part of your eligible plan.

Great news, while roaming internationally, you won't be charged for voicemails left in your inbox if your phone remains powered off or in airplane mode. However, you will be charged for the following:

  • If you answer an incoming call, you will be charged for the duration of the call.
  • If your phone is on when you get an incoming call, even if you don't answer it and it goes to voicemail, the call is charged one minute for the call coming into the phone, based on the  international roaming rate  of the country you’re in. (There are no charges at all if your phone is turned off.)
  • If you call your voicemail from your mobile phone to listen to messages while traveling internationally, that call will be charged at the international roaming rate of the country you're in.

Check out our international roaming checklist for everything you need to know before traveling abroad.

If you are a T-Mobile customer on qualifying plan, we have you covered with free data and texting in 215+ countries. There are some countries in which international roaming benefits do not apply, and international data passes cannot be used, you can check the list of those countries here .

A Virtual Private Network (VPN), is a way to help keep your connection secure, even while traveling. Be aware, that while on Wi-fi and connected to a VPN, your Internet usage goes through the VPN network you are connected to, wherever it's located. This means that while connected to a U.S. based VPN network, Wi-Fi calls made to non-US numbers, while outside the U.S., will be charged at international long-distance rates. See more details here .

Heads up! Many VPN services may connect automatically, or even be included in other services such as AdBlockers.

Canadian rail workers begin returning to work as stoppage partially ends

travel companies in canada

Employees at one of Canada's two largest railways will return to work on Friday, partially ending an unprecedented work stoppage after intervention by the federal government.

Canada moved on Thursday to end the brief stoppage, which saw Canadian National Railway (CN) and Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) lock out some 9,300 workers after failing to clinch a deal with the Teamsters union.

The Canadian labour minister asked the federal industrial relations board to impose binding arbitration on the parties

CN said operations would resume on Friday. CPKC said it was preparing to restart operations but that timing was pending.

In addition to the back to work order, Labour Minister Mackinnon asked the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) - an independent third party - to begin the process of binding arbitration between the Teamsters and both rail companies.

Mr Mackinnon told reporters on Thursday he expected railway operations to resume "within days".

Early on Friday morning, the Teamsters union wrote in a statement posted to X that it had taken down picket lines at CN. But the Teamsters also wrote that the work stoppage at CPKC was ongoing, "pending an order" from the CIRB.

"Despite the Labour Minister's referral, there is no clear indication that the CIRB will actually order an end to the labour dispute at CPKC," the Teamsters wrote.

The work stoppage, which began on Thursday at midnight, has threatened supply chains across North America.

Canada, the world's second-largest country by area, relies heavily on rail transport.

It sends around 75% of all the goods it exports to the US, mostly by rail. A prolonged dispute could have disrupted shipments of a range of goods, from grains and beans to potash, coal and timber.

The lockout has also snarled commutes for people in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver, where lines rely on CPKC-owned tracks.

"Workers, farmers, commuters and businesses rely on Canada’s railways everyday, and will continue to do so," Mr MacKinnon said in a Thursday statement.

"It is the government’s duty and responsibility to ensure industrial peace in this critically vital sector."

The government said that while it supports the collective bargaining process, it needed to exercise its powers under Canada's Labour Code in order to ensure important goods and trade were still being transported.

Under its orders, the CIRB will settle the disputes over the collective agreements. The minister also directed the board to extend the term of the current collective agreements until new agreements have been signed.

Labour agreements for both railways expired at the end of last year.

After months of talks, the increasingly bitter negotiations ground to a halt late on Wednesday evening with both sides accusing the other of refusing to negotiate seriously.

Sticking points in the negotiations included safety concerns and work scheduling.

CN and CPKC had both been calling for binding arbitration.

CN said on Thursday it was "satisfied" that the labour dispute would be mediated.

"The Company is disappointed that a negotiated deal could not be achieved at the bargaining table despite its best efforts," it added.

Keith Creel, chief executive of CPKC, said the government had acted "to protect Canada's national interest".

"We regret that the government had to intervene because we fundamentally believe in and respect collective bargaining; however, given the stakes for all involved, this situation required action," his statement added.

Teamsters Canada Rail Conference president Paul Boucher called the labour minister's decision "shameful".

"By resorting to binding arbitration, the government has allowed CN and CPKC to sidestep a union determined to protect rail safety," he said in a statement.

The union said on Friday it will challenge the constitutionality of a government decision the CIRB.
