8 Best Moments From Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in Seattle: HAIM’s First Shows, New Surprise Songs & More

It was quite the summer bash this past weekend in Seattle. Steps from the iconic Space Needle, foodies from all over the Pacific Northwest gathered for the city’s three-day “premier food festival.” Less than a couple miles west, Sofi Tukker, Denzel Curry, Louis the Child, PinkPantheress and dozens more musical acts performed all weekend at the annual Capitol Hill Block Party. Heading south toward the SoDo neighborhood, the Seattle Mariners completed a three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays at their home base of T-Mobile Park.

And, of course, just across the street, Taylor Swift finally brought her Eras Tour to Lumen Field — the climax to the officially declared Taylor Swift Week in King County.

Despite tens of thousands of people moving in and out of Washington state for a variety of different reasons, the Swiftie Energy was strong and felt everywhere. I-5 and I-90 were bumper to bumper as several cars and trucks with license plates from Idaho, Oregon and British Columbia were covered in lyrics and puns. “Shaking it off to the Eras Tour,” read one SUV headed from eastern Washington.

Sidewalks and iconic landmarks like Pike Place Market and Gas Works Park were extra Swiftie-coded too. No matter where you looked, chances were high you’d spot pedestrians in merch, cowboy boots, 13s or sequins — all telltale signs of an Eras Tour ticket-holder. Even the Space Needle was dressed to impress — hanging from the skyscraper’s entrance were giant friendship bracelets of its own that read “In My Seattle Era” and “#SwiftNeedle.”

For two sold-out nights, Taylor — alongside openers Gracie Abrams and HAIM — undoubtedly matched the crowd’s energy and then some. Billboard was on site at both sold-out shows, and we’ve rounded up the best moments from her big return to the PNW below.

HAIM Enters Their Eras Era

A rotation of several musical acts from Phoebe Bridgers to Paramore have opened for Taylor since the tour began in March, but the July 22 show marked the first time HAIM stepped on the Eras stage. The superstar’s “favorite band” and “besties” played a 30-minute set of songs that included “Want You Back” and Swift’s personal favorite (which she later was featured on a remix of) “Gasoline.” During the Sunday show, the sister trio added a fun little addition just for Swifties — a live remix of their viral TikTok jingle “I’m Gonna Be Hungover” — created during the “Bejeweled” music video shoot.

The big surprise of the night, however, came when Swift entered her evermore era. Prior to Seattle, every night of the tour thus far has opened the era with “‘Tis the Damn Season.” For HAIM’s first shows, there was a switch-up: The track was replaced by the album’s collaboration with the California sister trio, “No Body, No Crime.” Este, Danielle and Alana all got their own opportunities to showcase their vocals as soloists — a departure from the studio recording, which they only sang background vocals on — and the crowd went wild.

Seattle's Big Reputation

During a speech ahead of performing “Lover” on Saturday, Taylor revealed she found a diary entry from her 2018 Reputation Tour that simply read, “Seattle, Washington is the best crowd I have ever played for.” Talk about living up to a big reputation! On night 2, she confirmed that the 2023 audience did just that: “There are performances tonight in the crowd that are Tony Award-winning performances,” she said mid-show.

Fun fact: Home to the Seattle Seahawks, the stadium is known for a loud audience — in fact, in 2013, it won the Guinness World Record for loudest crowd roar after a victory over the San Francisco 49ers sent noise levels to 136.6 decibels (noise above 70 dB over a prolonged period of time may start to damage your hearing, according to the CDC).

'Red' and Debut Stans Win Surprise Song Sets

Taylor took us back to her pre-pop roots for three of the four songs she played during the surprise acoustic set over the two-show run. On Saturday, she played a solo rendition of her Red album’s Ed Sheeran collab, “Everything Has Changed” — but first confirmed that no special guest would be joining her for the performance. “There’s not a special guest,” she said bluntly, confused by the crowd’s roar. “Oh, are you clapping for me? That’s so nice,” she giggled.

On Sunday, she picked up her guitar for the live debut of Red vault track “Message in a Bottle” before moving to piano for “Tied Together With a Smile” — a deep cut from her 2006 self-titled debut album. While some audience members sat down for the performance of the little-known track, her longtime fans stood tall screaming every lyric through muffled sobs.

The surprise songs were quite the curveball for Seattle Swifties. Fans online speculated she would do at least one song from folklore ahead of the album’s third anniversary on July 23. Another theory posed that Hayley Williams would join for the live debut of “Castles Crumbling” — the Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) vault track the singer was featured on — because her band, Paramore, was scheduled for a show in Seattle the following day (though this show was later canceled due to illness in the band’s touring party).

A 'Reputation' Revenge Track Gets Its Live Acoustic Debut

Another surprise song Taylor pulled from her 17-year catalog over the weekend was “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things,” a track from reputation rumored to be about *that* 2016 Kanye West and Kim Kardashian phone call, revealing the performance marked the first time she’d ever played the song acoustic before.

During the bridge, she took a pause for a full maniacal cackle (which, yes, is also featured on the original recording, but this one was considerably longer — about 20 seconds total). The audience joined along joyfully with laughs, screeches and “aws” before the singer-songwriter strummed back into the final rendition of the song’s earworm hook.

Friendship Bracelets Galore

One major fan-created element of the Eras Tour is trading friendship bracelets , and Seattle undoubtedly arrived beaded and ready. The trend is inspired by a lyric in “You’re On Your Own, Kid” in which Taylor sings, “Make the friendship bracelets/ Take the moment and taste it.”

Thousands of concertgoers donned bracelets from their wrists to their elbows. Some even made dozens more, filling stadium-approved clear bags with colorful beads that read different album and song titles, lyrics, inside jokes, some expletives aimed toward former exes and more. Experienced Swifties were gifting the homemade jewels to little ones (many of whom were experiencing their first concert ever) all connecting over their shared adoration of the superstar singer-songwriter.

The concert even caused a bead shortage in the area — earlier in the week, The Seattle Times reported that one local bead store , Beadworld in Seattle’s Maple Leaf neighborhood, “had to scramble to reorder merchandise to meet spiking demand.”

A Bejeweled Birthday

What better way to spend your birthday than onstage with Miss Swift herself? Kam Saunders, one of Taylor’s 15 Eras Tour backup dancers, did just that during the July 23 show. Taylor even gave him his own little moment in the spotlight as he broke out into a solo dance during “Bejeweled” before wishing him a quick “happy birthday” in between lyrics. She also gave him what looked like the warmest onstage hug ever — sing-smiling a couple of bars through a big embrace.

The Lore Behind 'Folklore'

One song into her folklore set, Taylor took a brief pause from singing for a little chat about the making of her first pandemic-era album. She revealed she started on the album just two days into the COVID-19 lockdown.

“I imagined this life where I wasn’t a lonely millennial woman, covered in cat hair, drowning in white wine, somehow managing to watch 750 hours of television a day,” she joked at the Saturday night show. “Instead, in my imaginary, folklorian fantasy, I was somehow a Victorian woman and a pioneer woman at the same time.” She went on to describe the cabin she pictured herself living in (which was also onstage, a replica of the one she performed in at the 2021 Grammys) being “in the middle of the woods, somewhere in Washington state probably.”

A Movie Star and Music Legend

Dozens of celebrity guests have already visited Eras Tour stops around the country, and her Seattle weekend shows saw a new slew of famous faces. On night 1, Pearl Jam lead vocalist and Seattle music icon Eddie Vedder was spotted, as well as Imagine Dragons’ Dan Reynolds , each enjoying the show from the VIP tent with their families.

Fresh off opening weekend of the Barbie movie, (just Ken) Simu Liu was in attendance and all smiles on night 2. “i was absolutely BLOWN away by the eras tour, by taylor and by all of the amazing and kind swifties that stopped by the tent to say hello and give a bracelet,” the Canadian actor tweeted after the show.

Seattle residents and tourists made history over the weekend, as 72,171 Taylor Swift fans were in attendance at Lumen Field Saturday night to watch The Eras Tour, the most ever in the venue’s history for a concert.

The concert on Saturday broke a record previously held by U2, which drew more than 70,000 fans in 2011. Lumen Field reps are still confirming the final attendance figures, but Swift was also the first artist to sell out Lumen Field on consecutive nights.

More from Taylor Swift in Seattle : Nearly 120,000 people in SoDo for soldout Mariners and Taylor Swift

Swift added a few wrinkles to her setlist in Seattle, as she treated the crowd with a live version of “No Body, No Crime,” alongside opening act HAIM — who are also featured on the song off of Swift’s album “Evermore.” She also played acoustic versions of “This is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things” from her album “Reputation” and “Everything Has Changed” from her album “Red.”

Dave Brooks, Senior Director of Live Music and Touring for Billboard, estimated the cost of the tour is “well north of $100 million,” making it arguably the most expensive tour ever, boosting the economy in the process. The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia announced in July that Taylor Swift’s tour helped boost travel and tourism in the region, a claim also made by several other U.S. cities.

According to Forbes , Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour is on track to bring in $1.4 billion, with Swift making approximately $110 million already. The first 22 performances (out of 131 total shows) grossed more than $300 million.

Taylor Swift's 'Eras Tour' setlist included so many hit songs.

Taylor Has Officially Added An Extra Song To Her Permanent Eras Tour Set List

This one's for the Speak Now girlies!

Taylor Swift wasn’t lying when she called her 2023 concert tour the Eras Tour . The highly anticipated event kicked off on March 17, with Swift performing songs from throughout her illustrious career, ranging from her self-titled 2006 debut to her latest 2022 album Midnights . Fans expected the tour to deliver hit after hit, but nobody predicted just how massive the Eras Tour set list would be. On her first night of the tour, Swift performed 44 songs in a concert lasting over three hours, and revealed how each performance of the Eras Tour would be extra special with one specific song change.

Ever since Swift first announced her Eras Tour shortly after releasing Midnights in the fall of 2022, fans have been eagerly waiting to see what the set list would look like. As the name suggests, the concert series features songs from throughout Swift’s nearly two-decade career, and Swift finally revealed which specific songs make up the set list on night one of the tour. As expected, her recent albums Midnights , Evermore , Folklore , and Lover are most heavily featured, since they were released after her last concert tour, 2018’s Reputation Stadium Tour. But the set list also includes songs from every one of Swift’s 10-album discography, including a major throwback all the way back to her self-titled debut.

Check out the full Eras Tour set list below, which kicks off with a ton of Lover love and fittingly wraps up with some Midnights bops.

  • “Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince”
  • “Cruel Summer”
  • “You Need to Calm Down”
  • “The Archer”
  • “You Belong With Me”
  • “Love Story”
  • “’Tis the Damn Season”
  • “Champagne Problems”
  • “Tolerate It”
  • “…Ready For It?”
  • “Don’t Blame Me”
  • “Look What You Made Me Do”
  • “Enchanted”
  • “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”
  • “I Knew You Were Trouble”
  • “All Too Well (10 Minute Version)”
  • “Invisible String”
  • “The Last Great American Dynasty”
  • “Illicit Affairs”
  • “My Tears Ricochet”
  • “Blank Space”
  • “Shake It Off”
  • “Wildest Dreams”
  • “Bad Blood”
  • “Mirrorball”
  • “Tim McGraw”
  • “Lavender Haze”
  • “Anti-Hero”
  • “Midnight Rain”
  • “Vigilante Sh*t”
  • “Bejeweled”
  • “Mastermind”

While this set list mostly remained constant as the tour continued, Swift made a change to the Folklore section beginning on her March 31 concert in Arlington, Texas. Instead of kicking that portion of her set off with “Invisible String,” Swift sang “The 1” instead.

Swift made another big change to the set list towards the end of the tour’s U.S. leg. During her two shows in Kansas City, Missouri on July 7 and 8, Swift added her Speak Now track “Long Live” to her set list. Fans initially assumed this was a one-time thing in celebration of the release of Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) that weekend, but when it remained in the concert the following weekend at her Denver, Colorado shows, it was clear “Long Live” had officially become part of the Eras Tour set list.

And that’s not the only part of the set list that has changed. During her opening concert for the tour, Swift announced that a couple songs will be changed out with each date. Swift revealed that the 36th and 37th slots will be new acoustic performances of two different songs at each concert , to make the experience extra special for each audience. To kick the tradition off, she performed her dazzling Folklore track “Mirrorball” and her throwback single “Tim McGraw” for the Glendale, Arizona, crowd.

So, if you happen to be one of the lucky Swifties to nab Eras Tour tickets , it definitely sounds like all the trouble will be worth it to hear this massive set list of hit songs live.

Taylor Swift Swaps ''Tis the Damn Season' for 'No Body, No Crime' as Haim Joins Eras Tour in Seattle

Este, Danielle and Alana Haim are the latest Eras Tour opening act, performing at the rest of Swift's current North American concerts

She did it. With a little help from the Haim sisters, Taylor Swift made another change to the Eras Tour setlist.

Este ,  Danielle  and  Alana Haim joined the Eras Tour as an opening act for the first of two shows in Seattle on Saturday, and Swift swapped "'Tis the Damn Season" in the set's Evermore section to perform "No Body, No Crime" with the sister trio.

The setlist switch-up came in the concert's third act, when the stage turns into a woodsy landscape to showcase Swift's ninth studio album. According to fan-filmed videos , audiences were surprised to hear the police sirens that open "No Body, No Crime" before Swift, 33, and Haim ascended from below the stage to perform the tongue-in-cheek murderous country track.

"ERAS NIGHT ONE WAS A DREAM!!!! got to play no body no crime for the first time," wrote Haim on Instagram after delivering the debut live performance of the collaboration.

The "Gasoline" band will continue opening for the Eras Tour throughout the rest of its North American run for a total of 10 dates, appearing at shows in California's Santa Clara and Inglewood through Aug. 9.

Swift's made a few alterations to the Eras Tour setlist throughout its run. During shows where Phoebe Bridgers was the opening act, she joined the Grammy winner during the Red section to perform their collaboration "Nothing New," a vault track from Red (Taylor's Version) .

Upon the release of Speak Now (Taylor's Version) earlier this month, Swift also added "Long Live" into the album's section of the show, which previously only featured "Enchanted."

After performing "Invisible String" as part of the Folklore section for the first three shows of the Eras Tour, she swapped the track for "The 1" at most dates — except one of the Nashville concerts, where she performed "Invisible String" due to its reference to the city's Centennial Park, which dedicated a bench to her.

Changing the show to feature Haim is the latest way Swift's shown appreciation for her opening acts throughout the Eras Tour. Gayle , who's opened for many of the shows, recently told PEOPLE the “Midnights” singer gifted the entire team with gold tag necklaces engraved with the words “The Eras Tour.”

The piece of jewelry is more than something to wear around her neck, though — Gayle, 19, said it reminds her of Swift's role in her life.

David Livingston/Getty, Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty

“She is like a big sister to me,” Gayle confessed. “When you're in music, there's so many unknowns and there's so many stresses. I'm a perfectionist, and not everything is going to be perfect all the time. There's definitely been times where I've been able to talk about my insecurities and my fears and she's been a very comforting person.”

“She's been such a light in my life,” added the "abcdefu" singer.

Gayle spoke about having loved Swift for as long as she can remember — even moving to Nashville when she was 10 years old to pursue a music career like Swift did, joking at the time that “she claims Nashville, we claim her.”

“She has such an incredible work ethic,” said the Grammy nominee. “Ever since I was a little kid, I just aspired to be as good of a writer as her and work as hard as she does. I've just tried my best to do those things and she's always been such an inspiration to me.”

[9 February 24] Surprise Songs Taylor Swift Eras Tour

' src=

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour has been nothing short of a phenomenon.

The pop icon has sold out multiple nights at every stadium along her 50 city tour. Not only that, she’s selling out shows in a matter of minutes, and crashing ticket sale sites along the way.

The lucky fans who manage to snag tickets arrive adorned in costumes and friendship bracelets, ready to belt all 45 songs during the 3 hour and 15 minute set.

A fan favorite during The Eras Tour is the acoustic set, where Taylor Swift plays two surprise songs. The first song is played on guitar, and the second, piano.

Each night’s surprise songs can be from any album and are seemingly random.

The surprise element has a been a huge success, and is often the most anticipated part of the show.

By the end of the 146 (and counting) shows, Taylor has the potential to play every single song on her discography.

Below is every surprise song Taylor has played during The Eras Tour, plus a list of remaining songs.

This was written by a Swiftie, for fellow Swifties. Thank you for reading!
