Roger Waters Shares More 2023 Dates

roger waters tour canada 2023

Roger Waters has announced many more 2023 concerts of his “This is Not a Drill” tour. The Pink Floyd singer-songwriter-bass guitarist is performing the shows in the round for the first time, and recently completed shows in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, in a tour delayed two full years due to the ongoing pandemic. See the complete itinerary below.

It was reported that Waters had cancelled concerts in Krakow, Poland. Not so, he wrote on Sept. 24. He says local authorities there urged people not to buy tickets. He explains the circumstances here .

In the tour’s original announcement, Waters said: “This is Not a Drill is a ground breaking new rock and roll/cinematic extravaganza, performed in the round, it is a stunning indictment of the corporate dystopia in which we all struggle to survive, and a call to action to LOVE, PROTECT and SHARE our precious and precarious planet home. The show includes a dozen great songs from PINK FLOYD’S GOLDEN ERA along side several new ones, words and music, same writer, same heart, same soul, same man. Could be his last hurrah. Wow! My first farewell tour! Don’t miss it. Love R.”

Though Waters’ original dates weren’t scheduled to commence until July 8, 2020, he recognized the scope of the pandemic early, and announced its postponement on March 27 of that year.

In his 2020 postponement announcement, the legend noted, “Bummer, but if it saves one life it’s worth it.” The tour finally opened on July 6, 2022.

Watch a performance from opening night

The original tour announcement referred to the musician as “the creative genius of Pink Floyd.” He turned 79 on Sept. 6, 2022.

Pink Floyd fans who are still holding out hope for a reunion of the band’s three remaining members received bad news in March 2021. The knock-out punch was delivered by David Gilmour. In an  interview with Guitar Player , the guitarist was asked if the classic rock legends would reunite.

“No. I’m done with it,” he said. “I’ve had a life in Pink Floyd for quite a lot of years, and quite a few of those years at the beginning, with Roger. And those years in what is now considered to be our heyday were 95 percent musically fulfilling and joyous and full of fun and laughter.”

The new tour is playing many venues not seen on his recent Us + Them tour.

Roger Waters – 8th October 2023 London Palladium

On October 6th 2023 Roger Waters released his re-imagining of Pink Floyd’s 1973 classic album titled The Dark Side of the Moon Redux. A few days later Roger would perform the album in its entirety for two evenings at the London Palladium on October 8th and 9th. Roger’s band consisted of many of which had appeared on the album itself. There was a six piece string section fronted by Gabe Noel, a few of the members from Roger’s current touring band: Jon Carin (keyboards/guitars/synth), Jonathan Wilson (guitar), Gus Seyffert (bass), Robert Walter (keyboards/organ) and Joey Waronker (drums) along with Johnny Shepherd (organ, piano, and vocals), Via Mardot on the theremin, and Azniv Korkejian on vocals.

The set list was quite unexpected and this will be explained below.

Entrance: Increased security and long queues

roger waters tour canada 2023

  • First Half Roger enters the stage in black with a Pink Blazer.
  • No political statements made
  • Says his thank yous to Andrew Lloyd Webber for allowing his event to go ahead. So peace has been made with him over ‘Echoes’.
  • Sits at his desk with his laptop and reads from his forthcoming memoirs.

1. Growing up in the 1950s 2. A cat and Syd Barrett, Bike 3. Donald the Duck (she) and pronouns

  • Swears at a heckler
  • Does impressions of Bruce Forsyth and Max Bygraves

Music (14 piece band)

  • The Bar (a longer version than the tour)

The first half songs had a 14 piece band and was more orchestral with strings. A very different Roger mostly mellowed and relishing his time in the theatre.

1. 20 minute video explanation of every song lyric on the album. This for me was the most important and informative part of the evening and explains both the 1973 and 2023 versions.

Roger is now 80 and the explanation was as a 29 and 79 year old (when DSOTM and Redux were recorded)

Track by Track - The Dark Side Of The Moon Redux, Roger Waters

2. Dark Side Of The Moon: Redux Live

Great to see the Live premiere of this album with the lyrics on the screen. I found the album to be hard to listen to the day before, but with the explanation my view has changed.

It was not like the O2 show or a typical rock concert and it was good that it was different. Some tickets came with extras.

Ended at 22:45. Overran. Roger loves to talk.

Meet the crew behind Roger Waters: This Is Not A Drill Tour

Roger Waters’ latest in-the-round production provides audiences with an unforgettable sonic and scenic experience…

The technical ingenuity of Roger Waters’ latest campaign has perhaps been shrouded by the very thing that has shaped the narrative of his artistic output over the past six decades – politics. With no fears of alienating the room, This Is Not A Drill Tour boldly opens with the public service announcement: “If you’re one of those ‘I love Pink Floyd but I can’t stand Roger’s politics’ people, you might do well to fuck off to the bar right now.” For those who stick around, the reward is a spectacle over five years in the making – an in-the-round production that pushes the envelope of storytelling, boasting 650 sq m of LED, surround sound, a floating tunnel of triangular laser beams, as well as a giant inflatable pig and a ‘tumbling sheep’.

Greeting TPi at Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome was Production Director, Chris Kansy, who gave a rundown of the tour’s suppliers, including: Beat the Street, Clair Global, Eat Your Heart Out, Guardian Barrier Services, Kinetic Lights, Major Tom, Nimbus Dirigibles, Road Ramps, Smoking Boots, Strictly FX, TAIT, Transam Trucking, Universal Pixels, and Upstaging.
