Nickelback : Love ‘em or hate ‘em? Either way, you’ll want to know that the Canadian rock band is touring to support its “Get Rollin’” album -- and one of the stops is in Alabama.

Nickelback is set to play on Sept. 16 at Oak Mountain Amphitheatre in Pelham, promoter Red Mountain Entertainment announced on Thursday. Tickets for the 6:30 p.m. show go on sale Tuesday, June 13, at 10 a.m. CT via Ticketmaster/Live Nation . Prices are $40, $80, $100, $126 and $150, plus services charges, according to the promoter. The bill also includes Brantley Gilbert and Austin Snell.

Various pre-sales start on Friday, June 9, at 10 a.m. CT, according to the Ticketmaster listing, and run through Monday, June 12, at 10 p.m. CT.

Nickelback previously announced 37 concert dates , June 12-Aug. 27, to support “Get Rollin’,” which was released in November 2022. Earlier this week, Nickelback teased additional shows for the tour, along with the creation of a “six wheeled, ridiculous boogie van” inspired by the cover art for “Get Rollin’.”

The custom van, painted yellow with a red stripe, will be parked at Nickelback’s tour stops, Nickelback’s frontman, Chad Kroeger, said in a Monday video on social media. The idea, he said, is for fans to take photos with the van and post the images to Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and the like.

It’s ridiculous, and it’s real! Our friends at @officialwcc helped us bring the GET ROLLIN’ van to life, and it’s going to be on tour with us all summer! 🚌 But… we think it might need to make a few more stops along the way. More to come Thursday June 8th!… pic.twitter.com/nP8Vj9IHE6 — Nickelback (@Nickelback) June 5, 2023

Although the Pelham show wasn’t confirmed until Thursday, Oak Mountain Amphitheatre teased the concert announcement on Wednesday with a social media post of its own. The post featured -- you guessed it -- a photo of a yellow-and-red van. “Look at this photograph ... and check back tomorrow,” the post said.

Nickelback, formed in the mid-1990s, reached its greatest fame in the 2000s with albums such as “Silver Side Up” (2001), “The Long Road” (2003), “All the Right Reasons” (2005) and “Dark Horse” (2008). The band became known for hit singles including “How You Remind Me,” “Someday,” “Photograph,” “Rockstar” and more.

Nickelback also has several accolades to its credit, including Billboard Music Awards, Juno Awards, MTV Video Music Awards and American Music Awards. The band’s current lineup features lead singer Chad Kroeger, bassist Mike Kroeger, guitarist/keyboard player Ryan Peake and drummer Daniel Adair.

Nickelback has performed in the Birmingham area in the past, appearing in 2006 at the BJCC Arena (now called Legacy Arena at the BJCC) and in 2009 at Oak Mountain (then called the Verizon Wireless Music Center).

Although Nickelback has achieved mainstream success, the band has been a polarizing force in the music world. Fans cheer for Nickelback with enthusiasm; detractors slam the music as mediocre, derivative or deeply uncool.

Nickelback keeps on rolling, however, as evidenced by the new album and tour. In recent radio interviews, Chad Kroeger has even mentioned benefits to the backlash, saying it keeps the band in the public eye.

“All the detractors, all the haters, all the keyboard heroes, they have no idea how much they keep us in the press loop,” Kroeger said, according to a report from Blabbermouth . “It’s hilarious. Those people that would love to see us go away, if they really wanted to see us go away, they would just shut up. Because all those bands that came out with us at the same time are all gone, because nobody said anything about them. They all just sort of disappeared. But we’ve really kind of spun this whole negative thing into a positive thing. And here we are.”

About Nickelback Named the “most successful rock band of the decade” by Billboard in 2009, Nickelback is one of the most commercially viable and important acts of the past two decades. The four-piece, comprised of Chad Kroeger, Mike Kroeger, Ryan Peake and Daniel Adair, is globally celebrated for their career defining and award-winning hits including “How You Remind Me,” “Photograph,” “Far Away” and “Rockstar” which all held top spots on the Billboard 100. Their success includes worldwide sales of more than 50-million units, solidifying their status as one of the top-selling acts of all time and the second best-selling foreign act in the U.S., in the 2000’s decade, behind only The Beatles. Their inescapable and irresistible smash “How You Remind Me” was named Billboard’s ‘Top Rock Song of the Decade’. It was the number-one most played song on U.S. radio (any format) in the 2000’s decade according to Nielsen Soundscan, with over 1.2 million spins.

Amongst all of these accolades, they’ve also been named Billboard’s “Top Rock Group of the Decade” and received nine Grammy Award nominations, three American Music Awards, a World Music Award, a People’s Choice Award, twelve JUNO Awards, seven MuchMusic Video Awards, and have been inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame (2007). With more than 23 chart-topping singles and fans spanning the globe, Nickelback boasts twelve consecutive sold-out world tours, playing to well over 10-million diehard and adoring fans. About Brantley Gilbert

With back-to-back Platinum albums and a grassroots following millions strong, Brantley Gilbert’s music has been shared, covered and adopted as the soundtrack to Saturday night and Sunday morning by audiences around the world. The Georgia native who started as the defiant life-of-the-party can still go ‘til sunrise, but he’s also emerged as something far greater: the leader of a massive tribe of hard-working, fun-loving believers for whom electric guitar-shredding, rapping, and twang can go hand-in-hand-in-hand. They call themselves the BG Nation, and when the BG Nation watches Gilbert on a stage, they don’t just see a star. They see themselves. Seven No. 1 hits punctuate his career: “Country Must be Country Wide,” “You Don’t Know Her Like I Do,” CMA Awards Song of the Year nominee “Dirt Road Anthem,” “My Kinda Party,” RIAA 5x Platinum-certified “Bottoms Up,” “One Hell of an Amen” and collaboration with Lindsay Ell “What Happens In A Small Town.” Gilbert’s landmark record  Just As I Am  clinched the 2014 American Music Award for Favorite Country Album. Earning praise from the  New York Times , NPR,  American Songwriter , and more, Gilbert has mined a rich vein of conflict between the party and the pew on all of his albums. Instead of toiling in limbo, unable to enjoy good times for fear of Judgment Day, Gilbert fully lives––rowdy friend, man of faith, devoted husband, smitten father––just as he is. Gilbert’s new album,  So Help Me God , includes his latest single “Heaven By Then” with Blake Shelton and featuring Vince Gill, and is available now.

NICKELBACK 's history dates back to 1995 in Hanna, Alberta, where they got their start playing covers in a band called VILLAGE IDIOT , a nod to the small-town nature where they played and grew up. In 1996, Chad , alongside Ryan Peake , made the 10-hour trek west to follow Mike to Vancouver, British Columbia, where the band still resides and continues to make music today.

The band's numerous smash hits, coupled with worldwide sales of over 50 million albums sold, seals their status as one of the top-selling acts of all time and the second best-selling foreign act of the 2000s in the U.S., behind only THE BEATLES . The wildly popular smash hit "How You Remind Me" was named Billboard 's "Top Rock Song Of The Decade", which was a contributing factor in the publication's decision to crown NICKELBACK "Top Rock Group Of The Decade" shortly after.

Beyond their Juno Awards , the group has received nine Grammy Award nominations, three American Music Awards , a World Music Award , a People's Choice Award and seven MuchMusic Video Awards . They were inducted into Canada's Walk Of Fame in 2007.

About Nickelback

Greta Van Fleet ignites the Iowa State Fair with a high-energy concert

Portrait of Jessica Rish

At the Greta Van Fleet concert at the Iowa State Fair, the crowd and atmosphere felt like a classic 1970s rock show, and a rock show is precisely what the band delivered.

The quartet — twin brothers Josh Kiszka and Jake Kiszka, younger brother Sam Kiszka, and lifelong comrade Daniel Wagner — performed the last U.S. tour date for the "Starcatcher World Tour" at the Iowa State Fair.

The Grammy Award-winning band performed a nearly two-hour set, filled with flashy light displays, shots of Fireball, and pyrotechnics that heated the Grandstand, but the band played symphonically.

More: Third day attendance at the Iowa State Fair broke a record. Here's the total

The Beaches warm up the crowd

The Beaches, an all-girl rock band that has been together for more than a decade, opened the show. The Beaches features sisters Jordan Miller, lead vocalist and bassist; Kylie Miller, guitarist; plus closest friends Leandra Earl, guitarist and keyboardist; and Eliza Enman-McDaniel, drummer. Enman-McDaniel was not at the concert at the fair, and Karah James of the band Valley was filling in her place.

The band brought raw rock energy and pop sensibility to the show with songs like "What Doesn't Kill You Makes You Paranoid," Takes One To Know One," and "Cigarette."

The band playfully engaged in banter and thanked the audience for coming early to see them play. They even shared stories from their previous night out in Des Moines at the Blazing Saddle in the East Village, which earned a loud cheer from the audience.

"Thank you guys so much for being so open and nice," Jordan said. "It's sometimes hard opening for a band, but you guys have been great."

The Toronto-based band ended their set with their biggest hit to date, "Blame Brett," which reached the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Canada Rock Chart. Their matching white shirts read "Blame Greta," a cheeky nod to the song and headliner.

Greta Van Fleet delivers an electric performance

At 9:15 p.m. the band made a grand entrance to the stage in glittering outfits before opening with "The Falling Sky," a song that captures the band's soaring vocals, powerful guitar riffs, and dynamic drumming, giving the audience a taste of what else was in store for the night.

"Welcome to the show tonight," lead vocalist Josh Kiszka announced to the crowd. "Smoke them if you've got them, and clothing is optional."

The band's most recent release and Grammy-nominated album, "Starcatcher, " which came out in July 2023, dominated the setlist, with songs like "The Indigo Streak," "Fate of the Faithful," "The Archer," and "Sacred the Thread."

The crowd was less worried about singing along, though Josh encouraged it by saying, "Sing along if you know the words; sing along if you don't know the words. That's kind of the motto tonight." Instead, the crowd swayed along with the summer breeze, becoming one with the music or succumbing to it as his vibrato and falsetto notes rattled the rafters of the Grandstand.

The band also treated fans to songs from their previous albums with songs like "Heat Above," "Highway Tune," and "Black Smoke Rising."

More: Meet one of the most expensive dishes at the Iowa State Fair. Hint: it's 2 feet long.

The stage's spotlights not only illuminated the musicians but also their musical chops as the band members performed instrumental solos, slowing down and speeding up as the audience cheered louder and louder, wanting more.

Guitarist Jake Kiszka's technical brilliance created emotive power during the many guitar breaks and lengthy guitar solos, bending the strings with control and creating an almost cinematic feel to each note played.

Wagner's nearly 10-minute drum solo was an impressive display of stamina. The bombastic solo embodied a rainstorm and seemingly chased away rain clouds that had been looming over the fair.

The multi-instrumentalist Sam Kiszka, who switched from bass guitar to keyboards throughout the night, delivered a brief yet soulful bass break that sent a wave of sound that reverberated from the general admission pit to the back of the Grandstand.

More: 50 years ago The Grateful Dead performed at Iowa State Fair Grandstand here is a look back

Each song seamlessly flowed into the next, with the band never leaving the audience wanting more by throwing themselves into the music headfirst.

The band has been compared to Led Zeppelin, from Josh's vocal style resembling Robert Plant to the band's energetic and charismatic live performances. To any skeptics at the concert, Greta Van Fleet proved that they are virtuosos even without the comparisons.

The band finished their set with "The Archer," and "Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)" before coming back for an encore set. Pride flags waved throughout the audience and the multigenerational crowd held up lighters and phone lights.

"Farewell for Now" capped the evening, "This song is written for this exact scenario," Josh told the crowd before performing the wistful and sincere song with his arm slung over his brother Jake.

"You know we would be up here until the sun came up if they'd let us," Josh said. "One way or another, we (will) get to see each other again."

Next up at the State Fair Grandstand is country star Brett Young on Monday at 8 p.m.

female friends looking at smartphone while outdoor cycling training

  • Etappe 1: Rotterdam - Den Haag (Vlak)
  • Etappe 2: Dordrecht - Rotterdam (Vlak)
  • Etappe 3: Valkenburg - Seraing (Heuvelachtig)
  • Etappe 4: Bastogne - Remiremont (Bergachtig)
  • Etappe 5: Remiremont - Le Markstein (Bergachtig)
  • Etappe 6: Belfort - Lausanne (Heuvelachtig)
  • Etappe 7: Aigle - Châtel (Bergachtig)Etappe 8: Bourg d'Oisans - Alpe d'Huez (Klimtijdrit)

  • Gaia Realini (Lidl-Trek)
  • Ricarda Bauernfeind (Canyon//SRAM Racing)
  • Yara Kastelijn (Fenix-Deceuninck)
  • Évita Muzic (FDJ-Suez)
  • Marta Cavalli (FDJ-Suez)

  • Elisa Longo Borghini (Lidl-Trek)
  • Lotte Kopecky (SD Worx)
  • Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio (AG Insurance-Soudal-Quick-Step)
  • Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig (FDJ-Suez).

In March 2023 Nickelback will be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame at the JUNO Awards.

About Brantley Gilbert With back-to-back Platinum albums and a grassroots following millions strong, Brantley Gilbert’s music has been shared, covered and adopted as the soundtrack to Saturday night and Sunday morning by audiences around the world.

Rostov-on-Don, Russia is a colorful southern merchant city on a port of five seas whose mild climate, rich history and welcoming attitude continue to attract travelers. The city’s impressive collection of monuments associated with the North Caucasus and Don Cossacks, amassed over the past two and a half centuries, continue to testify to the city’s unique role in Russian history.

Rostov-on-Don has many unofficial names, the most common of which is “Rostov-Papa”. Other nicknames include "Gateway of the Caucasus", "Liverpool of Azov", "Rost Angeles" and "City of Merchants". This latter title is particularly significant for Rostov, which is filled with luxurious 19th-century merchant mansions that are practically unrivaled in all of Russia .

Rostov-on-Don served over the centuries as a customs office, a fortress and a port. It was officially founded on December 15, 1749 when a customs office was opened on the Don River by decree of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna. Again by order of the empress, in 1761 the office was replaced with a fortress to protect the country’s southern borders. The fort was named in honor of St. Dmitry, Metropolitan of Rostov and Yaroslavl, and in later years its name was shortened to simply “Rostov”. In order not to confuse the city with the already existing Rostov the Great, it was renamed Rostov-on-Don in 1806.

Its favorable location at the intersection of land and river routes allowed for active port trade with many foreign merchants, a factor which led to its rapid growth and development. In the early 20th century, Rostov-on-Don became a major center of international trade in southern Russia and the third most important city in the country in terms of foreign trade turnover. By this time, nearly a hundred enterprises were functioning in Rostov, including factories belonging to Vladikavkaz Railway, a shipbuilding and iron foundry and two tobacco factories.

Today Rostov-on-Don has a population of over one million and is one of southern Russia’s largest metropolises, a comfortable city whose colorful layout makes it attractive to tourists .

Rostov-on-Don Attractions

Rostov-on-Don is replete with outstanding architectural, historical and cultural sights scattered throughout every district of the city. Yet Kirovsky District, the historic city center with the highest concentration of landmarks, remains a favorite among tourists during excursions to Rostov-on-Don.

It was in Kirovsky District that the city was birthed, and even today the neighborhood is reminiscent of the original Fortress of Saint Dmitry of Rostov. Also in Kirovsky District is Monument to Peter the Great and Don State Public Library, as well as many theaters, museums and restaurants. The nearby Rostov Embankment remains a favorite scenic hangout for residents and guests alike.

The prosperous merchants who once competed with one another in the construction of elegant estates left an indelible mark on the cityscape, and a walk along Bolshaya Sadovaya Avenue and Pushkinskaya Street, likened to an open-air merchants’ museum, will take you back to simpler times. Outstanding examples of Tsarist-era architecture on this route include Margarita Chernova’s House, Martyn Brothers House and City Hall, all of which are now protected under the Russian Cultural Heritage Register.

In Leninsky District is Gorky Park, the oldest park in the city, and Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The railway district stretches along the Don, on the bank of which is Botanical Garden of the Southern Federal University, the largest of its kind in Russia. The picturesque Kumzhenskaya Grove, a favorite place for Rostovites to relax, is also situated nearby.

In Oktyabrsky District is one of the largest zoos in Russia and Europe, which is home to around five thousand animals. Pervomaisky District attracts with Rostov Sea (Rostovskoye More), an artificial reservoir which provides respite during the warm summer weather in Rostov-on-Don. To the west is Sovetsky District (known locally as Western District), an area famous for its year-round Ice Arena and Church of St. George the Victorious.

Theatergoers will appreciate the playful buildings and varied repertoires of the city’s numerous playhouses. Both Chaliapin and Rachmaninov performed at the opera house, which opened its doors in 1892. The unusual design of Rostov State Musical Theater resembles a white grand piano with an open lid. Gorky Rostov Academic Drama Theater, whose constructivist-style building is reminiscent of the lines of a caterpillar tractor, is rightfully counted among the finest theaters in Russia.

Rostov State Circus, which is more than half a century old, deserves special attention. Unforgettable performances of the legendary magician Igor Kio, famous animal trainer Anatoly Durov and the clowns Nikulin and Karandash have all been staged here over the years. Animal lovers will appreciate Rostov Dolphinarium, where visitors can admire sea animals while becoming familiar with their aquatic environ.

Museum options also abound in Rostov-on-Don. For history buffs, we recommend the Regional Museum of Local Lore, whose halls are filled with exhibits ranging from the Stone Age to modern times. Tour the Rostov Regional Museum of Fine Arts, located in an old, gated mansion, or fulfill your childhood dream in the Museum of Cosmonautics by sitting in a real capsule from the Soyuz spacecraft. To discover unique exhibitions on the origins and development of the brewing business, look no further than the appropriately named Museum of the History of Brewing.

On the outskirts of the city is Liventsovsky Fortress (also called Donskaya Troy), built by North Caucasian tribes almost 19 thousand years ago. One of the most popular sites near Rostov-on-Don is Paramonovsky Warehouses, located on the banks of the Don. The buildings themselves may be in ruins, but the strangely beautiful pools and waterfalls make for great photos. Fans of author Mikhail Sholokhov can visit his hometown, the village of Veshenskaya, which is located four hours from the city by car.

A visit to Central Market, commonly called Old Bazaar, is a must during your tour to Rostov-on-Don. Vendors will invite you to taste their array of pickles, while on the pleasantly surprising fish row you can purchase salted, fried or stewed varieties of the city’s famous Don fish.

While in this port city, be sure to sample two local dishes: authentic Cossack fish soup, which when cooked over the fire retains a delightfully smoky taste, and crayfish cooked with sour cream and red wine, whose flavors are fit for royalty!

Rostov-on-Don Souvenirs

The most popular souvenirs from Rostov-on-Don are items with Don and Cossack themes, which can be easily found in local markets. The city also offers a range of beautiful ceramics and tableware, a great selection of bedding sets made at the city’s famous sewing factories, various drinks from Rostov distilleries and the ever-popular vodka gift sets.

'I'm ready to lead the team': 'GC Kuss' headlines a deep Visma-Lease a Bike, with Uijtdebroeks as co-captain, and Van Aert on stage-hunting rampage.

Wout van Aert and the best of the “Killer Bees” will provide superstar support for Sepp Kuss when he lines up Saturday to defend his historic title at the Vuelta a España .

Visma-Lease a Bike confirmed its “Vuelta 8,” and Kuss will be happy with the backing he’ll see in the trenches and on the climbs in the Spanish grand tour (August 17 to September 8).

Kuss will start with the No. 1 bib, and roll out from Lisbon on Saturday as the GC co-leader of the powerful Dutch squad.

After missing the Tour de France with lingering effects of a COVID-19 infection, Kuss bounced back to win a stage and the overall at the Vuelta a Burgos last week.

“GC Kuss” is back just in time for a Vuelta defense .

“It was a very satisfying feeling to win in Burgos. I hadn’t raced for a long time. This was a nice confirmation,” Kuss said Tuesday. “I quickly got over the disappointment of missing the Tour, but it was definitely a letdown. Luckily, I was able to focus on the Vuelta afterwards.”

Last year, Kuss rode alongside Primož Roglič and Jonas Vingegaard to grab the Vuelta lead early into what disintegrated into an inside-the-bus battle for the red jersey.

This year, Kuss will start as the designated co-leader. Vingegaard is not racing, and Roglič is now on rival Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe.

“I know the Vuelta will be a completely different story, with a different course and different competition,” Kuss said. “A lot can happen in a three-week race, but I’m glad that I feel good both physically and mentally.

“I find it hard to make firm predictions about this Vuelta. I’m starting with a different preparation compared to other years,” Kuss said. “Above all, I want to enjoy the coming weeks. I definitely don’t see myself as the top favorite for the overall victory.

“I’m ready to lead the team in the Vuelta, but I don’t feel any pressure. Hopefully, I can grow into the race and quickly find a good rhythm.”

Uijtdebroeks has freedom to race

Uijtdebroeks

Cian Uijtdebroeks , 21, will start as co-leader with Kuss.

The young Belgian hit eighth last year in his grand tour debut at the Vuelta, and was sitting in fifth when illness forced him out of the Giro d’Italia in stage 11.

Sport director Grischa Niermann said Uijtdebroeks will start as a protected co-leader alongside Kuss.

“We have a well-balanced team that can aim for both stage wins and a good general classification,” Niermann said. “Sepp has already proven to be one of the best climbers in the peloton and he is the defending champion here.

“Cian is a great talent who finished in the top 10 of the general classification last year.”

That means both will be protected across the race, and each can play off each other to ride as high as possible in the GC.

Van Aert on revenge tour

Van Aert

Behind these two, Visma will bring perhaps the strongest and most diverse squad to the Vuelta.

A true Vuelta headliner is Belgian superstar Van Aert, who makes his highly anticipated Vuelta debut.

“I’m really excited for the Vuelta,” Van Aert says. “During the Tour, I really found my good legs towards the end, which allowed me to achieve a good result at the Olympics as well. I certainly don’t feel burnt out.”

After a heavy crash at Dwars door Vlaanderen derailed his spring campaign, he bounced back for a solid Tour and won bronze in time trial in the Paris Olympics.

Van Aert will have freedom to chase stage victories as well as provide a powerful motor to help pace Visma’s two skinny GC riders across the rough roads of Spain.

“I want to use this good feeling to win again. I’m really craving it. Let’s start by aiming for one stage win,” Van Aert said. “Hopefully, that will lead to a successful three weeks. There are good opportunities in the first few days already. Maybe the red jersey could be an option then. My personal goal is to go for stage wins. Additionally, I want to be valuable to Sepp and Cian.”

Edoardo Affini, a strong time trialist, will work alongside Van Aert on the flats to control any dangerous moves.

Veteran motors in GC engine room

Van Baarle

Kuss will also count on a superb cadre of steady, experienced, and strong wingmen in the form of Steven Kruijswijk, Dylan Van Baarle, Attila Valter, and road captain Robert Gesink, who retires at the end of this season.

Kruijswijk and Van Baarle were both slated to race the Tour but did not start after suffering injuries sustained at Critérium du Dauphiné in June.

Both will be fresh and motivated to be there for the team.

Last year, Visma-Lease a Bike won all three grand tours racing as Jumbo-Visma. So far in 2024, the team has yet to stand on the top step of a grand tour.

Without Vingegaard at the start line, Niermann is quick to put things into perspective.

“Sepp is the defending champion, but not the top favorite to win this Vuelta,” Niermann said. “Cian rode a strong first part of the Giro but unfortunately had to withdraw due to illness. He could have competed for a top-five finish.

“[Cian] quickly refocused on the Vuelta and is extremely motivated, but he’s still very young. Therefore, there’s not too much pressure on him: he’ll have a free role,” he said. “If, for example, Sepp suddenly takes the lead, it could be that Cian will take on a more supportive role. We are confident that it will be a great Vuelta for Visma-Lease a Bike.”
