Good tour covers all the major spots & bus was cosy on cold January day. Deducted 1 star for the commentary- didnt enjoy the dialogue between 2 narrators , I would prefer information on the tourist attractions only
It was really good, took all over Berlin and you will learn a lot about Berlin and you can pick it up the bus whenever you want to.
Very nice tour! He didn't have much time and we managed to see a lot of things 😍. Easy way to explore the city. …
Today we went on the tour with Klaus. It was a fun filled couple of hours. Klaus was so much fun,we really enjoyed his company. Great informative tour. We had read previously that the audio was not very good, we had no problems with it, loud and clear. Keep up the good work Klaus you are a credit to the tourist industry! From the honeymooners from london
A great way to see all the sights of Berlin, the tour is nearly 3 hours long in one lap. There is an audio guide in several languages. You do get really close to all of the attractions. The bus driver was friendly and welcoming.
Great service, friendly staff and great views! Would recommend the Hop on Hop off bus as a great way to see Berlin. Be prepared though, the entire route is @2.5 hours long!
Okay … I have just read the recent reviews and it would seem some individual(s) rated the Sight Seeing of Berlin (Hop On, Hop Off) as not particularly great. However, I have found my tour brilliant. Whilst the tour bus, was not particularly crowded. Claudes, the bus/tour guide, was exceptionally brilliant, so knowledgeable, with a great sense of humour. Appreciated his storytelling of why the Berlin Wall was built,; explained the Berlin Wall Museum and the drawings etc … we stopped twice for a 15 minute break. Claudes, spoke about the history of Berlin and it’s check points. It’s a shame, you can’t ask for Claudes, for your tour guide … he was & is brilliant 😊
We purchased a ticket that gave us a 48 hour pass with guided walking tour and free curry wurst. The directions to activate your ticket were not great, nor was information on redeeming your curry wurst. However the actual tour bus was great. The first driver we had was entirely unhelpful but the other ones were excellent. Also the sellers and agents around the mail stops were super helpful. The English guy we had for the walking tour was hilarious and very knowledgeable. He really did an excellent job.
I would have been unable to experience visiting all of these sights without using this bus service......and just like in London, another bus will soon arrive, after you visit a given stop.
The bus ride was a great way to see the city and listen to someone tell us about all the highlights of what we were seeing. Super easy to hop on and off. The boat tour was nice but we didn’t understand anything said since it wasn’t in English…but it was still a nice ride.
Read a few poor reviews but have to say ours was a good experience. Talked to a few of the ticket sellers as they lower their prices as you move around. We were happy with the price we paid. We enjoyed the banter on the commentary and have little to complain about. This company pairs up with another so there's more choice of buses at each stop. There is a negative in that there are no *bus stops* so you have to remember where you got off. We bought tickets and boarded where there were ticket sellers. That helped, but they're not at every stop. One other gripe was other tourists chatting loudly so we couldn't hear the commentary. Overall, a great way to see the highlights of Berlin.
very nice service from the people. Especially Mr Paras Bhatiya have lot of information while booking the ticket. Well orientation and delighting experience Thank you
Tour bus handy - right outside our hotel at East Side Gallery stop! Bought 2 day ticket for extra 4 euros which was worth it. They let you use red hop on and hop off bus as well as the red city sightseeing bus so both were quite frequent. Did full tour took 2 hours but bus does stop as major sights for 15 mins during that time ie Brandenburg gate and also at stop 1. Detailed recorded tour although sometimes it continues even when you are at red lights so unsure what its referring too but still informative. There was a boat ride but we couldnt find where to pick this up from so ended up doing a separate boat tour on Reederei Hadynski which was very good. Bus was clean and soft drinks available but you need cash as card machine didnt work.
I traveled to Berlin for a day trip with my son and therefore needed the ability to see as many of the sights in a short space of time and this tour ticked the box. We booked the combined tour and one hour river trip in advance and when we got to the central station it was really easy to find the bus stop, number 19 on the list. As one can imagine the bus was quite full but we managed to get upstairs seats and had great 360 views. A downside, not worth marking down was that the initial Jack for the headphones was as faulty but the next one did. The circular tour takes 2.5 hours if one stays on but the clue is in the name so we hopped off for the river cruise before getting back on at a different stop to get back to the station. The guided information adds humour to interesting facts. Well worth using to understand Berlin
A great way to see the sights over two days - the 2 day ticket is good value. One downside - the really cheesy audio track. Very informative, though.
Very convenient. It allows you to have a complete view of the city

Berlin Hop On Hop Off bus tours can be a great way to see the highlights of the city in a short amount of time. It’s no wonder they’re popular with first time visitors to Berlin. But I know the options can be overwhelming. In this article, I’m going to show you two of the most popular options for hop on hop off buses in Berlin , the differences and similarities, what you can expect, and more.
There are several different sightseeing tour buses in Berlin , but I will be focusing on the two biggest ones here. Too many options can get so overwhelming, so looking at only the best Berlin hop on hop off buses should make it a little easier for you to decide which one to take.
What you'll find here
Quick verdict: Berlin sightseeing bus tours
There’s a lot of information in this article about the features of the different Berlin hop on hop off buses. So if you’re looking for a quick glance at the differences between the two, this will help you out.
- Price (adult 24 hour ticket): A few euros more expensive
- Price (family 24 hour ticket): Cheaper family ticket for 2 adults & 2 kids
- Date change: Can't change the date on a 24 hour ticket
- East Side Gallery: Stops at each end
- Kids ages: 5 - 15
- Extras: 24 hour ticket comes with digital walking tour; 48 hour tickets have flexible date change, free walking tours, free currywurst
- Price (adult 24 hour ticket): A few euros cheaper

As you can see, the differences are subtle, but they can help you pick one over the other. For example, for a child ticket, if you have a 15 year old, Big Bus is cheaper, but if you have a 5 year old, City Sightseeing is cheaper. This is just one example though, so if you’re still not sure, keep reading for an in depth look at both Big Bus Berlin and City Sightseeing Berlin bus tours.
Who is a Berlin hop on hop off tour good for?
Taking a hop on hop off bus in Berlin is a good idea for those who want to get an overview of the city in a short amount of time. It’s good for people who might only have one day in Berlin and want to see as many sights as possible without having to figure out public transportation.
But even if you have a week in Berlin, a hop on hop off bus tour can also be a good way to see some of Berlin’s most important landmarks before diving deeper into sightseeing and learning about Berlin’s history. And it can be a good option for people with physical limitations who can’t be on their feet much.
I’ve also heard from people who visit for the Berlin marathon that the hop on hop off tour was a good option for the day before the race when they wanted to rest their feet. So there are lots of different people who can benefit from taking a bus tour like this in Berlin.
Who is it not good for?
While there are lots of reasons why taking a hop on hop off bus tour in Berlin can be a great idea, it’s not for everyone. It’s not for people who want to get off the beaten path in Berlin . Taking a hop on hop off tour might not be right for you if you want to explore slowly and spend lots of time at each attraction.
Berlin Hop On Hop Off Tours
Big Bus Berlin and City Sightseeing Berlin are the two big hop on hop off bus tours in Berlin that I’m discussing in this article, and they have a few similarities. They both offer 24 hour and 48 hour ticket options. Both companies offer mobile tickets or a printable ticket, and both have wifi on the bus.
But it’s the differences between these two sightseeing bus tours in Berlin that will help you decide which is the best one for you. Let’s take a look at Big Bus Berlin and City Sightseeing Berlin hop on hop off bus tours.
Note: Sightseeing bus tours run nearly every day of the year. However, certain events that block major roads might interfere. For example, the hop on hop off buses can’t operate on the day of the Berlin Marathon, which is the last Sunday in September.

Experience Berlin in Hop On Hop Off Bus Tours
Explore the capital city of Germany during a Berlin bus tour. The city of Berlin is nine times bigger than Paris but has only one-fifth of Paris’s density. Thus, it feels a lot more spacious. Or, maybe it’s the fact that Berlin has more bridges than Venice that keeps the traffic flowing and offers you a little breathing room! Either way, you can enjoy a hassle-free bus tour and check out the top attractions at your own pace.
Hop off the bus and see the points of interest that appeal to you. Then, hop back on and skip the ones that don’t. Combine the tour with a boat ride on the Spree River during your vacation. Or pick up a ticket to Madame Tussauds to go along with your tour. And, for those who want to do something exciting in Berlin, pair the tour with a concert at Charlottenburg Palace. If you want a reliable way to get around the city that stops at all of the key attractions, a Hop-On Hop-Off tour is what to do in Berlin!

CITY SIGHTSEEING BERLIN TOUR
This very popular double-decker hop-on-hop-off tour company offers several tour routes you can build into a package.
Several extra features make these tours an excellent choice.
They have 4 out of 5 stars on TripAdvisor and Get Your Guide ( read some of the reviews ) with over 900 reviews.
Many of the reviews mention that these tours are a good value for your money, given the amount of territory you cover, especially if you buy a 2-day ticket with several routes.
The biggest complaints are the inconsistency of the live guides. Some live guides are described in reviews as " excellent " and "informative. "
Other reviewers describe some live guides as "rude" "moody" "grouchy" "unengaging" and even "reading a script from an iPad."
It's clearly luck of the draw when you take a tour with a live guide. As for the pre-recorded commentary, most people found it informative but average.
On the plus side, this company offers pre-recorded commentary in 9 languages.

NOTE: A 24-hour ticket with this bus is included for free with a purchase of the Go City Berlin Pass .
This bus tour is definitely more affordable than the first option.

CITY CIRCLE SIGHTSEEING
These yellow double-decker city sightseeing buses are operated by several different companies including BBS Berlin, BVB (Bus Verkehr Berlin), Grayline, BEX Sightseeing, and Berolina).
Like its competitors, this company has a good overall review profile ( read the reviews ), but the reviews are mixed, so do take a read.
Tour Features:
Their Berlin Basics route covers the standard tourist sites with 18 stops.
They advertise that buses leave every 10-15 minutes, which is a fairly short interval between buses.
None of their tours have live guides, however, their pre-recorded audio comes in 19 languages.
This is a big plus if one of those 19 languages is your native tongue.
Be warned that some of the biggest complaints in reviews are over the poor quality of the audio system.
This company’s hop-on-hop-off tours might be worth it if you are a family with young children since you can purchase a 2-day family ticket for €56 total and cover two adults and three children (14 years and under).
In this case, you would be paying about €11 per person for two days of hopping on and off.
The little ones might also appreciate that the buses offer a children’s audio channel in German and English.

Comparing Berlin Hop-on Hop-off Bus Tours
In this section, we'll provide a comparison of each company offering hop on hop off bus tours in Berlin, including prices, included activities, and reviews.
DEALS AND COMBO DEALS
This section will provide all the details you need to get a deal either with a tourist pass or a combo package.
Tourist Attraction Passes
Purchasing a tourist pass is a great way to save money on bus tours. In addition, some passes include a metro card which you can use to get around town.
These passes bundle tickets to popular attractions and tours at one low price. You can save up to 55% off the retail prices.
They can also save you time, as many of the tours and attractions offer skip-the-queue privileges to cardholders.
The Berlin Welcome Card
You can use this card to get a free one-day hop-on-hop-off tour from City Circle Sightseeing.
The Berlin Welcome Card is available as either an all-inclusive pass or an a-la-carte option.
This means that you can pay one flat price for many different services or pay for only the activities you want.
Berlin's top attractions include free admission to popular museums, boat tours, and public transport.
Go City Berlin Pass
This card includes a free one-day hop-on-hop-off tour through Templehofer Bus Tours.
The Berlin Pass is what we call an all-inclusive tourist pass.
In addition to the free bus tour, you also get free public transport, and free access to dozens of museums, Berlin's top attractions, and other sightseeing tours.
NOTE: Not currently available as of September 2022.
Easy City Pass
Rather than offering a bus tour, this pass will give you a travel card that you can use on the subway, bus, tram, and regional train.
In addition to the travel card, you will also receive deals at several popular attractions throughout Berlin.
Receive up to 50% off at dozens of notable attractions, tours, restaurants, and bars.
Berlin City Pass
This pass includes 10% off the City Circle Hop-on Hop-off Tours.
The Berlin City Pass is a service that allows you to save money on several different attractions and activities, but it provides access to a few additional services for free.
In addition to deals on several tours and attractions, pass holders will also get free admission to the Berlin TV Tower, the DDR Museum, the Pergamon Museum, and a city audio guide.
These services can be a great deal if you’re planning on seeing a lot of different things while visiting Berlin.
If all you want is a bus tour or you’re working with a limited amount of time, you may want to consider a combo package instead.
Combo Packages
The most common combo package available in Berlin is a bus + boat tour.
This deal includes both a hop-on, and hop-off bus tour, and a cruise down the Spree river.
Templehofer Bus + Boat Combo
- Adult (15 years and up) 1 Day ticket €44
- Youth 1-day ticket €30
- Students with student ID €37
- Children €19
City Circle Bus + Boat Combo
- Day Ticket: €55/Adults | €30/Children (7-14)
- 2-Day Ticket: €60/Adults | €35/Children (7-14)
- 1 or 2-day hop-on, hop-off bus tour
- 1 boat tour on river Spree
In addition to these options, Templehofer tours also provide combos that include Berlin's top attractions such as Madame Tussauds, the Berlin Dungeon, and the German Spy Museum.
POTSDAM BUS TOURS
If you’re considering a day trip to Potsdam, you may want to take a hop-on-hop-off bus tour of the area.
City Sightseeing offers a service that has 12 different stops.
This is a great option for people who are short on time and want to see all of the popular attractions in Potsdam.
Here are some of the historic sites you can see on this tour:
- Alexandrowka
- Cecilienhof Place
- Filmmuseum Potsdam
- The Dutch Quarter
- Marmorpalais
Tickets for this hop-on, hop-off tour are very affordable. Your ticket will be valid for use at any time within 3 months of the purchase date.
The tour is offered in a total of 7 different languages.
For more details, make sure to read this Potsdam bus tours post .
ALTERNATIVE BERLIN BUS TOURS
If a hop-on-hop-off tour isn’t your style, you may still want to consider another service.
It’s important to note that most of these alternative bus tours will not allow you to jump off at specific sites and take a look around.
Instead, you can expect to stay on the bus for most of your trip as a professional guide provides information about Berlin.
Ticket prices are usually pretty affordable, and some options even give the hop-on-hop-off companies a run for their money.
You can expect a variety of services including a comedy bus tour, VW bus tour, video bus tour, and even a karaoke bus tour.
If you’re interested in a private outing, you can also get a private bus or limousine tour around the city.
Click here for a full list of alternative Berlin bus tours.
PROS AND CONS OF TAKING A HOP-ON-HOP-OFF TOUR
Save travel time between sights
Berlin is a huge city and its many attractions are spread out in different neighborhoods.
While it is easy to use public transportation in Berlin (see our post Tips on public transportation in Berlin ), traveling to multiple locations in one day to see the most popular sights will cut into your time.
This is probably the biggest advantage of taking a bus tour.
Rather than getting on and off public transportation all day long and having to pay attention to make sure you are on the right train or bus and getting off at the correct station, a Ho/Ho simplifies this process.
You buy one ticket, let the driver do his or her job, and take you directly to the main attractions where you can hop off and explore more, or sit back and continue the ride.
Create your own itinerary
The various Berlin bus tour companies offer basically the same Ho/Ho routes covering the historic city center, the Brandenburg Gate , Checkpoint Charlie, Potsdamer Platz , the Reichstag and its dome , and more.
Taking a Ho/Ho tour is like giving yourself an unlimited bus pass to the attractions in Berlin. You have the freedom to create your own itinerary in advance or be spontaneous.
Hop off the bus and stay as long as you like at one sight and breeze past the sights that don't interest you by staying on the bus.
Orient yourself to Berlin
Another advantage of taking a Ho/Ho is that you get a great overview of the city and can orient yourself.
If you are visiting for several days, taking a Ho/Ho on your first day of travel gives you a feel for what's out there.
Then you can decide where you would like to go back to and explore in-depth.
Deals to other attractions
Some bus companies have partner affiliations that will get you great deals on tickets for major attractions, like Madame Tussauds Berlin or Legoland.
All you need to do is show your bus ticket at the attraction to receive the deal.
Connecting with free walking tours
A few Ho/Ho companies offer walking tours that work in tandem with their bus route.
At certain stops at specific times, you can meet up with one of their walking tours. You just need to show your valid bus ticket to join.
You can also coordinate your bus tour hop-off choices to correspond with one of our free walking tour starting points.
Our walking tours are twice as long as those included in your Ho/Ho ticket and are also free so why not check out all our offerings?
Click here for our full list of pay-what-you-wish Berlin Walking Tours .
Mediocre live guides or no live guide at all
Not all Ho/Hos has a live guide on the bus with you to narrate your trip.
Unless you speak English or German, you will likely receive commentary about the sights via headphones listening to pre-recorded commentary in your language.
The commentary is fine, but it's not the same as a live, spontaneous, and, hopefully, enthusiastic guide on your bus.
And live guides can be a hit or miss - some may be amazing and others can spoil an otherwise nice bus ride!
Street conditions are not controllable, and it's possible that rather than saving time, your day might be slowed down depending on traffic.
Sights are touristy
This is perfect for a traveler who wants an overview of the most well-known Berlin's top attractions.
But if you prefer seeing sights that are off the beaten track and don't plan on taking advantage of the deals to other tourist attractions, a hop-on-hop-off tour may not be for you.
BERLIN 100 AND 200 FREE BUS
For those travelers on a tight budget, Berlin’s public bus routes 100 and 200 are a dream come true.
Both bus routes stop in front of (or within easy walking distance to) many popular sights in central Berlin .
If you don’t mind forgoing live or recorded tourist commentary, you can save big and see lots with this resourceful self-made hop-on-hop-off bus tour.
You will need a regularly priced bus ticket.
A single ticket for zones A&B costs €2.70 and is good for 2 hours from the time you purchased it.
However, these single tickets allow you to travel only one way.
This means that, even if your trip lasts less than 2 hours, you will need to buy another single ticket to go back in the other direction, if you need to (unless you have a daily/weekly travel pass).
Since you are probably spending all day sightseeing, it might be worth getting a day ticket for €9.00 (AB).
See our post, Tips on Public Transportation in Berlin , to find out about fare options available.
Click here for an interactive map .
Both the 100 and 200 buses depart from the Zoologischer Garten station approximately every 10 minutes (though you could also start this tour from Alexander Platz and do the tour in reverse order).
Both buses follow the same route at first, passing by Breitscheidsplatz where what’s left of the Kaiser Wilhelm Gedächtniskirche (Memorial Church), serves as a reminder of the destruction caused by World War II.
Shortly thereafter, the buses part ways and continue along different routes.
Bus 100 goes through Tiergarten Park, while Bus 200 travels along the park's southern edge and past the kurfürstendamm and Potsdamer Platz .
At the intersection of Unter den Linden and Glinkastraße, Bus 200 converges with Bus 100 and travels along the same route.
They both travel past many places you will want to see, such as Gendarmenmarkt, Museum Island , the Berliner Dom (Berlin Cathedral), and Ostbahnof.
The 100 bus terminates at Alexanderplatz. The entire journey takes approximately 30 minutes if you don't get off.
Bus 200 has a stop at Alexanderplatz but does not terminate there.
The 200 continues another 15 minutes into the Prenzlauer Berg neighborhood and what used to be communist East Berlin and then terminates at Michael Angelostraße.
There's plenty to see in East Berlin and exploring by foot is the best way to do it. Join one of our pay-what-you-wish walking tours or use our Self-guided tour of East Berlin.
Tips From Locals and Travelers
While we do our best to remain unbiased, it's always a good idea to get a variety of perspectives before deciding whether or not to take any tour.
That's why we also have a Facebook Group called Berlin Travel Tips , where you can see the opinions of over 40,000 members.
Our group consists of locals, like us tour guides, who moderate the group, expats, regular visitors, as well as newbies to Berlin.
You don't need to join the group in order to search for and read the posts, comments, and suggestions on all things Berlin travel related.
Here are some of the thoughts our group members have shared about hop-on hop-off bus tours in the past:
As you can see, it's actually quite common for someone to ask whether or not Berlin bus tours are worth the price, because there is a bus line that many consider to be just as good.
That said, a lot of people still recommend taking a hop-on hop-off tour, insisting it's a great way to become familiar with the city and find all the best attractions with ease.
It seems that most people who do suggest a hop-on hop-off Berlin tour insist that it's good for first time visitors, but if you're already familiar with the city, the public bus might be a better option.
Whether it's to save some money or simply because you already know your way around the city, a lot of our group members do recommend using the 100 and 200 bus lines to see the best attractions in Berlin.

Tangier Bus Tours Reviews
Customer reviews.
Good to get around the city and get a good overview - also nice to get out of town along the coast to the hercules grotto - so therefore for 48 hrs good to get around - the 1 star for excellent is missing because of a little more information about the town would have been nice. :-)
