Where to Go

Made famous by its proximity to the legendary Temple of Angkor Wat, Siem Reap offers a step into the crumbling world of the lost Khmer Empire. Whilst Siem Reap has its charms, the showpiece is naturally Angkor. Encircled by tropical forest, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is adorned with grand lotus towers and ornate carvings and reigns as the largest religious monument in the World.

Considered to be one of the most beautiful cites in South East Asia, Phnom Penh earned itself the title the ‘Pearl of Asia’ in the 1920s. The French colonial part of the city and its mix of architecture for example is a delight to explore.

The pristine islands of Song Saa lay in the Koh Rong archipelago and are reached by a 45-minute speedboat ride from Sihanoukville Port.

Coastal Cambodia

Neighbouring Thailand may have received all the press when it comes to idyllic beaches, but the south of Cambodia has its own beautiful coastline well worth exploring. If you’re interested in the artistic history of Cambodia, the National Museum is a great place to start your tour of discovery, where the building alone will leave you awe-struck. For those who are temple-bound, Angkor Wat is the largest religious structure in the world, originally built to honor the Hindu god Vishnu. This treasure trove of archaeological riches, set amid the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Angkor Archaeological Park, covers over 400km2 and includes majestic trees growing through its ruins.

Cambodia’s Asian cuisine shares similarities with Thai and Vietnamese food but is by no means a lesser version. Soups, noodles, stir-fries, curries, fresh vegetables and tropical fruit are a plenty. Rice is a given staple at every meal, including breakfast. Pra-hok (a pungent fermented fish paste) and kapi (fermented prawn paste) are both regularly used to flavor dishes. If these acquired tastes are not to your liking, you can find multiple restaurants serving international cuisine, and many options to meet vegan, vegetarian or halal dietary requirements.

As the biggest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia, the fascinating Tonlé Sap Lake in Siem Reap is filled by the only river in the world to flow in both directions; after draining in the dry season, the vast quantity of water in the Mekong River causes the Tonlé Sap River to reverse its flow during the rainy season. A diversely rich ecosystem results with a multitude of wildlife species, including Siamese crocodiles, Irrawaddy dolphins, Indochinese tigers, Asian elephants and sun bears.

They found great guides and drivers for each place and their choice of hotels was excellent. The details provided in advance were great quality and very detailed - it almost seemed too good to be true- yet everything listed happened almost exactly as promised. When it was slightly off it was not due to galatourist, yet they quickly acted to make things right. My advice would be to check the details of trips and sights and explain the things you like and don’t like doing- this company will really work hard to match your needs and make the perfect trip.I highly recommend them and especially Ms. Jennie.

Our tour with Intrepid was amazing! No details were spared. We were very well taken care of. Our tour guide Seen; with us the entire time, was conscientious, super attentive to our needs, fun, friendly and always available to provide us with ideas, guidance and support. The guides in each country of our journey, especially Lam from Vietnam and So Koom from Cambodia, were very knowledgeable of the history and their cultures. We learned so much from them. The cycling was the best! Bikes were fantastic to ride and all the mechanics took such good care to prepare our bikes each day. There were always plenty of snacks and water along the route with adequate stopping/rest points. Loved it and would highly recommend.

Great river cruise for a seasoned traveler. Well paced. Lots to see staff is friendly and responsive. Cruise director is a dynamo. Get to see locals living life in Their villages and markets.

While I felt like the crew, tour guides, and boat were all wonderful, there are a few things I do feel fell short. A number of the outings felt redundant, making it somewhat difficult to experience the uniqueness of the locations. Also, I wish we had access to food outside of the designated eating times. While there were cookies and a few similar treats available, I would have appreciated being able to craft my day as I saw fit, rather than operating on a schedule at all times. Since i was on vacation, being able to sleep in a day or two, would have aided my need to rest, rejuvenate, and take things easy. And lastly, which might is the most important, as a young(er) African American solo traveler, I was often reminded of my “differentness”, something I rarely feel in my everyday life. There were numerous remarks from passengers about the boat probably not having “African American music”, or passengers telling a friend I made to be wary of me, being that I was the only black person on the ship, as well as a few more hurtful comments. Though I tried to brush them off, I must say it did color my experience. I don’t know how your team would even go about preventing that, or making it a more diverse experience for future travelers, but I thought it best I be honest. Once more, the accommodations and staff were stellar, and for that, I’m thankful.

i did not receive a welcome package of sorts and if i had not asked what hotel to meet at i would have really felt alone. I was not added to the whatsapp group until i was in country and would have liked to know the meeting point atleast before arrival. i never got an itinerary and the one on the website was not followed. i would have liked the option to have own room through the whole tour. I ended up having a great time but this is definitely for those who like to party more then learn about the country. Still a great tour just unexpected with the party aspect. The floating village is on the tour but not included. Overall great tour, great guide.

Hul was very enthusiastic and very welcoming, he took time with each guest and made them feel comfortable. The best days were Arcadia waterpark and mad monkey beach hotel, however I feel the pepper tour could have been optional, I am a very active person and enjoy hiking and being outdoors if there were more of these options it would be 10/10, however this is a reflection on the tour not the guide, I can’t fault Hul for his efforts during the trip. Accommodation and transport were fantastic!

Where do we start? What an amazing time we had. The Siem Reaper team were fantastic. The communication from them beforehand was excellent. The mountain bikes were appropriate for the task. The support team were really outstanding. Not only did we have two guides, one leading and the other at the end of our group, but we also had a dedicated photographer with us taking hundreds of photos and also some drone footage. The support vehicle team were also brilliant, they had scheduled refreshment stops where they greeted us with much welcomed ice cold towelettes, drinks and fruit. Hotter than we had anticipated but better when moving on the bikes. Generally flat terrain but surfaces ranging from smooth tarmac roads to sandy narrow tracks. Breathtaking scenery in both countries with the addition of the temples in Cambodia. Local people welcoming and generous and several stops to see local crafts/businesses. Great food experiences - tarantulas optional! All in all a fantastic trip which exceeded our expectations. Would thoroughly recommend Siem Reapers as a tour company. Thank you all!

Mr. Long of Realistic Asia was very attentive to the details of our trip. All the individual tour guides were very good. The many logistical details went without a hitch - many different drivers, guides, pickups, etc. were all on time and reliable. We did customize the trip slightly, which was very easy to organize through Realistic Asia. We would recommend this company and encourage people to ask about modifications as desired. We also used the upgrade to 4 star hotels. All the hotels were very nice, so we were happy we did the upgrade (although we did not stay in 3 stars so can’t directly compare).

We opted for the "Off The Beaten Track" tour to delve into a unique experience of Vietnam, and we're pleased to report that the journey was truly outstanding. Long Pham from Vietnam Tour Fun provided exceptional support, checking in with us daily to ensure everything was going smoothly. We felt thoroughly supported and well looked after throughout the trip. Here are the highlights we truly cherished: The "Off The Beaten Path" trekking in Mai Chau, Pu Luong, Sapa, and the areas around Hoi An was simply unforgettable. We relished the tranquility of village life, surrounded by breathtaking scenery. The guides in these regions each brought a distinct perspective, their backgrounds and deep knowledge of the areas making our experience truly enriching. Accommodations varied from good to exceptional, with some offering incredible views. Similarly, the food ranged from good to outstanding, with some meals truly memorable. As for aspects we would tweak: Halong Bay, despite its iconic status, felt a bit too much "on the beaten path" for our liking. The long journey from Hanoi, the logistics of embarking and disembarking the cruise ship, the tightly scheduled activities on board, and the limited cruising time left us feeling it wasn't quite worth it. We would have preferred to spend more time either in Pu Luong or Sapa. The journey to Bac Ha Sunday Market also proved to be a long day of driving. We set off early from Sapa and didn't return to our Hanoi hotel until after 9 pm. Given the chance, we would skip the market and opt for an extra day of trekking in Sapa instead. Additionally, we'd have skipped the southern destinations and instead extended our stay in Hoi An, possibly adding Hue and Da Nang to the itinerary. Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong River cruise, while bustling and lively, didn't quite align with our desire for an "Off The Beaten Track" experience. In conclusion, our journey was excellent, and with a few adjustments to the itinerary, we wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
