Arctic Monkeys announce 2023 headline Brisbane show – here’s how to get tickets

The Brits are back!

They’ve already announced their headline slot at this year’s Falls Festival, now British rock royalty Arctic Monkeys are preparing to take their mammoth live show to outdoor stages around the country in January 2023.

Last here in 2019 on a mammoth run of sold-out arena shows in support of their polarising six album Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino , four years on Alex Turner, Jamie Cook, Nick O’Malley and Matt Helders are ready to make their hugely anticipated live return Down Under.

We know the band have been working on new music – they’ve confirmed it themselves – so now the question is, how much new music will we hear on this tour? Heck, with some big international headline slots incoming, we might even get the album before they land here.

Speaking to Mike Dolbear for this year’s DrumathonLIVE 2022 about the record, Arctic Monkeys drummer, Matt Helders said, “It kinda like picks up where [ Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino ] left off musically…it’s never gonna be like [2012 AM single] ‘R U Mine?’ and all that stuff again, you know, the heavy riffs and stuff…but there are riffs in there and [it’s] a bit more up-tempo, even though it’s not loud..It’s hard to explain.”

The Sheffield band have released six studio albums to date.

2006’s Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not was the fastest-selling debut album in UK chart history upon its release, winning the Mercury Music Prize (the band has been nominated a further three times) and giving us Arctic Monkeys staples like ‘ I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor ‘, ‘ Mardy Bum ‘, and ‘ Fake Tales of San Francisco ‘.

Never a band to make the same album twice, it was followed by Favourite Worst Nightmare (2007), Humbug (2009), Suck It And See (2011), AM (2013), and Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino (2018).

About to get back on the road, the band have got a huge 2022 in store. From August, Arctic Monkeys will headline festivals across the globe including Lowlands, Pukkelpop, Rock En Seine, Reading and Leeds, Electric Picnic, Primavera Sound and more, before ringing in the new year at Australia’s Lost Paradise, Falls Festival and Heaps Good.

With their acclaimed kaleidoscopic sound, Melbourne groove masters Mildlife will open proceedings in Brisbane. The band recently wrapped a slew of northern hemisphere tour dates, with new recording Live From South Chanel Island out now.

Hints and tips for improving your chances of getting Arctic Monkeys tickets

Make sure you have a my ticketmaster account.

Get the basics covered before tickets go on sale by logging in and checking your Ticketmaster account ahead of time. If you don’t have a Ticketmaster Account then make sure you sign up in advance – Ticketmaster.com.au .

Sign into your My Ticketmaster account ahead of time

Remember to triple check your passwords, account information, and billing information are all filled in correctly in advance, that way you’re not facing any last-minute account updates when trying to process your order.

Keep your options open with ‘Best Available’

Save time by searching “Best Available,” which scans all sections fast – it’s quicker than searching sections one at a time.

Keep an eye on the clock

There will be a time limit applied to all transactions as they’re progressed through the ticket purchasing stages. Remember to keep an eye on the timer on your screen and move through the processing pages as quickly as possible (this is even easier when you’ve completed the account set-up stage we mentioned above).

Don’t refresh your screen

Stick to one window while you’re in the Waiting Room and when you’re being pushed through the Smart Queue and always resist the urge to refresh.

Hitting the refresh button means you’ll lose your place in the queue and, as frustrating as it can get, patience is the only way to win this game. Ticketmaster is equipped with sophisticated systems that are designed to manage and process ticket purchases as quickly as possible. The queuing system that appears on your screen will place you at the front of the line as soon as possible.

Remember: there are a lot of fans

We’re expecting this to be a very popular event. When a popular event goes on sale there are hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of customers all attempting to purchase tickets at the same time. Tickets are sold as long as seats are available, and sometimes they go very quickly.

Be sure to follow the above tips to ensure you have the best chance of snapping up some tickets.

Arctic Monkeys will bring their mammoth headline show to stages around Australia in January 2023, including Brisbane’s Riverstage on Wednesday 11 January. Tickets are on sale via Ticketmaster.com.au.

It was 2002 when Arctic Monkeys formed in the north English city of Sheffield. Featuring the distinctive, aggressively enunciated lead vocals of Alex Turner, the band features a classic lineup: two guitars and a bass across the front, drums in the back.

Famously unwilling to sit still and commit to any one sound, the Arctic Monkeys’ genre varies from album to album. Its discography spans from indie rock to hip hop to garage grunge. While this type of ambition doesn’t always land well with critics when other bands attempt it, with Arctic Monkeys it always seems to work. This might be because the way the band arranges its songs always stems from the same DNA source, or because Turner’s vocals are like nothing else on the scene.

The Arctic Monkeys experienced an unusual rise to fame. School friends Alex Turner, Matt Helders, and Andy Nicholson formed the band in 2002 as an instrumental-only project. Jamie Cook soon came on board as a second guitarist — it was he who came up with the name “Arctic Monkeys.” Turner soon got past his reluctance to be the band’s lead singer, and on June 13, 2003, the group played its first-ever gig at The Grapes in Sheffield.

Over the course of 2003, the band demoed 18 songs — a collection that would eventually be dubbed Beneath the Boardwalk. It gave the songs away on burned CDs at shows, which fans quickly began to file-share with one another. Its popularity began to grow across northern England, even gaining the attention of the BBC. In 2005, it recorded and self-released an EP called Five Minutes With Arctic Monkeys, which led the band to sign with Domino Recording Company.

In 2006, Arctic Monkeys released its debut album Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not, which became the fastest-selling debut album in the history of the UK music charts. It’s also regarded as one of the greatest debut albums in history — no surprise that it won Best British Album in 2007 at the Brit Awards. The band even defeated the dreaded sophomore slump when its second album, Favourite Worst Nightmare, won the same award the following year.

It takes a lot of vision to craft an upward trajectory from a high starting point like that. Arctic Monkeys continued releasing new albums every two years or so: Humbug in 2009, Suck It and See in 2011, and AM in 2013. Every single one debuted at number one in the UK – a first for an independent-label band.

The Arctic Monkeys’ fifth album, AM, vaulted the band’s career forward, with the single “Do I Wanna Know?” from that album winning international fame. After topping four Billboard charts, the hit was given the vaunted platinum designation in the UM and won Best British Album in 2014.

If you’re trying to judge a band’s chutzpah, look no further than the choices it makes after achieving extreme success. After going platinum, the Arctic Monkeys took four years to craft Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino. Released in 2018, this album broke free from the band’s guitar-driven indie rock roots and moved to piano-based music. Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino was nominated for Best Alternative Music Album at the 2019 Grammys.

The Arctic Monkeys took another four years to perfect the sound for its next album. The Car, released in October 2022, debuted second on the charts in ten territories – and likely would have claimed the top spot if not for a new release by Taylor Swift at the same time.

As Arctic Monkeys tour dates continue to populate the calendar for 2022 and 2023, catch the band live to see one of the most exciting stage shows in the world right now. Turner’s songwriting along with the band’s arrangements and live stage team make it a must-see for this year. Find a concert near you on Songkick.

Live reviews

Seeing Arctic Monkeys not once, but twice, in two days was absolutely insane - I'd like to have rated it a Four out of Five simply for the pun but personally I think there's no doubt that the show(s) were as close to perfect as a concert can get. Mini Mansions were quite a decent support act - their set included a few fillers but ended on a high with an energetic rendition of Mirror Mountain. AM's setlist varied over the two nights but both nights were an amalgamation of songs from all six albums - a perfect blend of atmospheric, new TBHC songs and older, grungier hits. Live staples like Brianstorm, Pretty Visitors and Don't Sit Down Cause I've Moved Your Chair had everyone out of their seat, while there were also some (pleasantly) surprising inclusions like Library Pictures and From The Ritz To The Rubble (first time in Australia since 2009!!!). Both nights' encores concluded with a blistering performance of R U Mine? which was the perfect way to end such a intense night. Alex Turner's onstage antics oozed pure class combined with true rock n' roll - a highlight of the second night was the dance Alex did whilst holding a stool above his head! The crowd went crazy for that - as well as his famous hip gyrations, especially during Cornerstone! Matt was full of energy on the drums, Jamie and Nick were equally hyped - but nothing really compared to Alex's voice, both speaking and singing (which quite frankly I could listen to all day). The sound quality was utterly fantastic - you could not ask for more from a band - the only minor downside was the minimalistic, Kubrick-esque backdrop & stage - but Arctic Monkeys have never really been the type of band that relies on on-stage effects to transfix the audience… Alex does that quite adequately on his own! As a group of sixteen-seventeen year olds, myself and my friends were probably the youngest people there but it was refreshing to see a lot of people our age - the majority was (understandably) uni students. Such an outstanding pair of performances that I'm so glad I went twice (and to be honest it was so enthralling I genuinely could have gone a third time if there was another Melbourne show). Alex Turner is, in his own words, a CERTIFIED MINDBLOWER. A definite Five out of Five.

This was by far the best concert I have ever been to. Everyone on the crowd was just so wild, happy and full of energy. The whole crowd sang all of the songs and danced to it. That energy that I felt when I was there face to face with the Arctic Monkeys was incredible, I can’t even begin to explain it. I wish I could go back in time and rewatch that concert. I just love them, and their songs are extremely good. Alex’s voice was perfect last night. Jamie, Nick and Matt were amazing too.

The arena where the show took place was pretty good and had a nice space. It was a little crowded in the beginning, but then people just started to spread out.

The moment when 505 came on, everyone just danced calmly and sang along so well. We all turned on our cellphones flashlights so we could light it up.

Do I Wanna Know was my favorite song performed from last night. I love that beat and it’s my favorite song in the whole world. I wish I could listen to it played live everyday.

Honestly, going to the Arctic Monkeys concert was the best decision I have ever made in my life. I wish everyone could be there to feel the vibe with me. I also managed to buy myself a shirt, not from the official store because it was expensive, but from someone else selling them. It looks really good, it’s from the “Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino” album.

I just wish they would’ve played some other songs too, like “I Wanna Be Yours”, “Mardy Bum”, “No Buses”, “Despair in the Departure Lounges” and a couple others.

Alex sang pretty fast and wouldn’t give us a minute between each song, and unfortunately that resulted on the show going on by pretty quickly.

But despite it all, I loved it and it was the best night of my life so far. It was perfect, I miss it already.

Jamie, Nick, Alex and Matt, you guys are amazing. Thank you for everything last night. I will never forget it.

I'm a fan. I must start it off saying this, 'cause as a fan, they have never, ever let me down. I've been to three Arctic Monkeys live gigs, in different phases of the band. The first one, back in 2007 when we were all just kids wanting to have a blast, than in 2011 and finally last Friday, in front of a sold out 35 thousand people crowd. My favorite will always be the first one... I was young, reckless and hopeful because of this great band that had started online and was actually very good. But to see them all grown up and mature, and with complete control of that sea of people that was there just for them, was very, very meaningful. They interact less with the crowd than before, and have more of a rockstar attitude, but it suits them. It's all part of the show and it doesn't make them less charismatic at all. Specially Mr. Alex Turner. The setlist is a real trip through their career so far and even thought they had to cut a few fan favorites, the most meaningful songs are there, shining and evoking beautiful sing-a-longs. One of the highlights ended up being an acoustic rendition of "Mardy Bum", right before the last song, very effusively requested by the fans and beautifully delivered by Alex Turner, all by himself. Whenever he was not playing guitar and singing with his eyes closed, he would leave the guitar, hold the mic with two hands and dance like no one even knew he could. Oh, Mr. Turner... You've become quite the frontman! One of the most interesting things about them is that you'll get the same thrill by watching a large arena set and a small, intimate performance. Their songs are just that powerful. And these guys aren't even in their 30's yet! Long live to the Arctic Monkeys!

Arctic Monkeys, making me as giddy as a goat since 2002! Need I say anymore?

Some would say they have done the full 360 in their last 5 albums, but they still somehow manage to create something different and even more meaningful each time a new release comes along, which is what you want from a mainstream band.

As they have had to grow up as well as lock down their career in a relatively short period of time, their sounds represent a different stage in their lives from overnight success, heartache and self discovery. After hiding away in the desert to record an epic follow up album to 'Suck it and see' (Admirable contribution from Josh Homme) the sheer dedication to their music was sincerely portrayed in 'AM' and things got really serious over night. After a test drive of the new material at Glastonbury 2013, a few new hairstyles and a nonchalant attitude the band became pure rock and roll stars.

From small venues to outdoor arenas Arctic Monkeys can do no wrong - With carefully selected playlists to cover their early and playful classics such as 'I bet you look good on the dance floor' and 'Dancing shoes' right through to their seductive, jaw dropping, riff-tastic songs 'My propeller' and 'Don't sit down cause I moved your chair'. Frontman 'Sir' Alex Turner knows how to work a crowd with a bit of cheeky banter and endless appreciation to their fans, which is always an added bonus. With Arctic Monkeys, always expect the unexpected.

Arctic Monkeys is the most riveting mainstream band you could see live. They feature music from their first release to their last, create a powerful atmosphere for fans, and Alex Turner interacts with the crowd in a refreshing way with his exotic accent. Arctic Monkeys' music varies from upbeat to slower tempo, but in my opinion all of it is amazing. They could potentially play any venue successfully due to their great stage presence and how similar their live music is to their recorded music. I was astounded by their true talent, which is hard to find in mainstream music today with the excessive use of autotune and other enhancement programs. My favourite part of the concert was when they played "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor" because it was a song that the majority of concert attendees knew and the vibe completely changed when they played the song. It brought new and old fans together and excited the audience. The most surprising thing was that I thought it wasn't going to be a very good concert due to the fact that I paid for last minute seats in the back, but honestly, it didn't affect the atmosphere at all! The concert was even better than most of the concerts I've been up close to in large venues. Overall, they played a great live show and it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. I'd highly recommend buying tickets and experiencing some real musical talent and live playing.

The whole experience was amazing. Although the Lemon Twigs were down a brother (With Brian having to go home due to being ill) it did not effect their electric performance, finishing the set with one of their best songs 'As Long As Were Together'.

And then of course. The Arctic Monkeys came on and the crowd lost it before they'd even started playing. The set they played was a perfect balance between the new album and their older stuff and not a single person was sitting down by the last song. As they packed up and walked off the crowd (as is to be expected) started cheering for another song and as per usual Alex Turner does not disappoint! The boys came back on stage and bought the house down with 'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor' and finally 'R U Mine'.

A perfect night.

Excellent! As always...

People aren't crazy about the new album but "Four out of Five" has enough swagger to start the gig and even though they played 505 a bit too early for me the catalogue and band's attitude is far more than enough to keep even the most cynical (me) happy.

That's where I draw the line. Forest Hills is an absolutely BEAUTIFUL venue and the weather was perfect but FLASH SEATS is a terrible experience. I had to transfer a ticket and we encountered issues that meant we missed the first few songs (you could hear 4/5 thankfully, but didn't see it).

Flash Seats...either get your app in order or just let us print the tickets at home like every other normal working ticket app...we didn't need another one but you've cornered a market for yourself.

Sort it out.

Finally, my long awaited chance to see Arctic Monkeys. Live. In concert. How can that not make anyone crazy with joy? Needless to say, THEY ROCKED. True, finding somewhere comfortable to sit in the Klipsch Lawns that wasn't covered in mud or bird poop was hard and stressful, but it all disappeared the second the electrifying riff of "Do I Wanna Know?" broke on stage. After that, all that worried me was completely gone as I soon found myself every single second. And oh yeah, White Denim know how to kick some butt as well, as they somehow managed to make and awesome concert even more enjoyable. My only regret? That the concert couldn't go on forever. Visually Stunning, musically vivid, here's to you Alex Turner and your Arctic Monkeys, may your music always be more than awesome!

I had an absolutely fantastic time seeing the Arctic Monkeys live, without a doubt. Their set list was delivered very well; the concert started with a few fun songs, wound down to slow songs, and build back up again to more fun songs to end the night with. They upheld their reputation of talent on their instruments, of course. These guys played in a way that made everyone in the crowd fell alive and on fire. Seeing them at an outside venue was marvelous. It was open so you weren't going deaf, there was a little more space between each person, and the sound was able to get to everyone without being overwhelming. The opener, White Denim, definitely impressed me. The whole experience was unforgettable. I love them more after this concert!

volimte’s profile image

The Arctic Monkeys are amazing live. I was already in love with them just listening to their music on my phone. But live? Wow. Their lead singer, Alex Turner, has a lot of interesting and funny dance moves. For example, to the song "Don't Sit Down Cause I've Moved Your Chair" he acts out all the actions in the song. During the show, there were a lot of cool lights and everyone was having a good time. If you really need to read a review to decide whether or not you should go to the Arctic Monkeys concert, then you're not as in love with them as you should be in order to go to their concert. But since I've already written so much, I hope you divide to go because it is a truly unforgettable experience.

Arctic Monkeys Have Announced Three Australian Headline Shows For This Summer

By Alex Gallagher

After last month’s announcement that they’ll headline this year’s comeback edition of Falls Festival (alongside the likes of Lil Nas X , Peggy Gou , Chvrches , Jamie xx and plenty more), Arctic Monkeys have announced a trio of their own outdoor shows taking place in January 2023.

After ringing in the new year, the British rockers, who were last here in 2019 for a string of arena shows, will play Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl on Wednesday, 4th January. A week later on Wednesday, 11th January they’ll perform at Riverstage in Brisbane, before wrapping up at The Domain in Sydney on Saturday, 14th January.

In Melbourne and Brisbane, they’ll be joined by psych jazz-fusion quartet Mildlife , while Sydney gets both DMA’S along with The Buoys . Tickets for these shows are on sale next Friday, 17th June at 12pm local time. There’s a fan pre-sale kicking off Wednesday, 15th June you can register for here , while Frontier Members have access to a pre-sale the following day.

If word on the street’s to be believed, Arctic Monkeys have new music well on the way. It was reported back in August that the band had recorded a new album – the follow-up to 2018’s acclaimed Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino – meaning they could likely have a slew of new tunes to showcase once they’re on our shores.

If you can’t catch the band at either Falls or one of their own shows – fear not. They’ve also been announced on the lineups for this year’s Lost Paradise along with the inaugural Heaps Good Festival in Adelaide.

The band will be supported in by psychedelic jazz group Mildlife in Brisbane and Melbourne, while the Sydney show will have two support acts in hometown heroes DMA’s and alternative rockers The Buoys .

Arctic Monkeys released Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino in 2018, their last album to date. A noticeable sonic departure for the band, it topped charts around the world, including reaching number one on the ARIA Albums Chart.

Arctic Monkeys Announce Massive Outdoor Australian Concerts For January 2023

Arctic Monkeys Announce Massive Outdoor Australian Concerts For January 2023

Chris Singh

Although it was expected sooner or later, given the legendary British rockers will be headlining Falls Festival over the New Year’s period, Arctic Monkeys have this week announced three massive outdoor shows to take place across Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney to help kick off 2023. Scheduled from early to mid-January, the Arctic Monkeys Australian concerts will be supported by Midlife, DMA’S and The Buoys, who will be chopping and changing support act duties depending on the dates.

In addition to their headline performances at Falls Festival, NSW’s Lost Paradise and Adelaide’s Heaps Good festivals, the hitmakers behind classics ‘I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor’ and ‘Do I Wanna Know?’ will be taking to some of the East Coast’s best open-air venues, ranging Sydney’s The Domain, Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl and Brisbane’s Riverstage.

While they’ll be playing alongside the likes of Lil Nas X, Chvrches and Jamie XX for Falls Festival, these outdoor concerts will be a chance for Arctic Monkeys to hopefully sprinkle in more of a focused stream of the band’s well-known hits balanced with newer songs from their untitled new album.

With both Arctic Monkeys and The Killers due to tour Australia later this year, it seems the country’s undying love for modern stadium British rock is going to be well-fed. Who knows, maybe even Bloc Party will be announcing a tour soon?

Arctic Monkeys Australia Headline Tour Dates 2023

Wednesday, January 4th – Sidney Myer Music Bowl, Melbourne (w/ Midlife) Wednesday, January 11th – Riverstage, Brisbane (w/ Midlife) Saturday, January 14th – The Domain, Sydney (w/ DMA’s & The Buoys)

Also appearing at Lost Paradise, Falls Festival – in VIC, NSW and WA – and Heaps Good Festival.

Pull Up Yr Knee Socks ’Cos The Arctic Monkeys Are Doing Three Huge Outdoor Gigs In Aus

arctic monkeys australia tour 2023

Courtney Fry

The British rockdogs have announced a string of shows while they’re in town for a couple of appearances at Falls, Lost Paradise and Heaps Good festivals. They’ll be hitting massive outdoor stages in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne in the thick of summer — the perfect time for a boogie in the park.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Arctic Monkeys (@arcticmonkeys)

Melbourne is the first to look good on the dancefloor with a big gig at Sidney Myer Music Bowl on January 11. After that the four lads from Sheffield will hit Brisbane’s Riverstage and then swing back down to Sydney for a massive show at The Domain on January 14.

Big shows under the big sun, you love to see it.

Honestly is there anything better than sweating your ass off on a grassy patch while Alex Turner croons and drips horny energy on a stage in front of you under a summer sunset? I don’t think so.

Aussies bands DMA’S, Mildlife and The Buoys will be joining Arctic Monkeys at the big gigs. Brisbane and Melbourne is set to groove along to Mildlife while DMA’S and The Buoys will fire up the Domain in Sydney.

All of the shows are all ages (huge!). In Sydney and Melbourne, those under 18 need to have a parent or legal guardian with them and in Brisbane, you have to be 16 and over to go without the ‘rents.

Tickets for the shows go on sale at 12pm local time on Friday June 17 on the Frontier Touring website. There are also a couple of presales if you join the band’s mailing list or sign up as a Frontier Member .

So go light up your appropriate group chats and organise who’s copping the tickets because these gigs under the summer skies are gonna be all-time.

We bet you'll look good on the dance floor at arctic monkeys' big 2023 aussie outdoor gigs.

Sheffield's finest are returning Down Under for Falls Festival and Lost Paradise — and they've just added standalone gigs in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

We Bet You'll Look Good on the Dance Floor at Arctic Monkeys' Big 2023 Aussie Outdoor Gigs

Do you wanna know the latest big Australian tour news? Yes, if you're an Arctic Monkeys fan, you do. Already slated to head Down Under for Falls Festival and Lost Paradise , the Sheffield rockers have just gone and added three huge standalone — and outdoor — gigs to their tour itinerary. We bet you'll look good on the dance floor when January 2023 rolls around, obviously.

2022 marks two decades since the band first formed in their Yorkshire home town, and they'll see out the year in Australia, then start next year here as well. For their solo shows, Alex Turner, Jamie Cook, Nick O'Malley and Matt Helders will hit Melbourne's Sidney Myer Music Bowl and Brisbane's Riverstage, both with Mildlife in support, before heading to The Domain in Sydney with DMA's & The Buoys.

Arctic Monkeys' last tour to come our way, 2019's Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino World Tour, was massive. Actually, every tour they've brought Down Under has been. Given their career to-date — including scoring the fastest-selling debut album in UK chart history when Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not released in 2006 — that's hardly surprising.

(Nor are the Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday shirts always spotted in the crowd whenever the band makes the trip Down Under, with Aussie supporters of the group's two hometown soccer teams routinely coming out in force.)

It's been four years since the Monkeys' last album, the aforementioned Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino — but they won't be short of hits to play. Expect plenty of fun when the sun goes down, and not just a number-one party anthem on the set list. And if you're somehow not already excited, snap out of it.

British rock royalty Arctic Monkeys are coming to Melbourne this summer

Adena Maier

Time Out says

Here's some news that you do wanna know: British rockers Arctic Monkeys have announced a three-show tour Down Under in 2023, including a massive show at Melbourne's Sidney Myer Music Bowl.

Last here in 2019 for a mammoth run of sold-out arena shows, the Sheffield band has released six critically acclaimed studio albums to date. Best known for their suave take on garage rock, their alternative tunes have been streamed over nine billion times to date, which rounds out to an impressive 6.5 million streams daily.

If you're keen to see the British rock royalty take the stage, stay tuned for when general public tickets go on sale on Thursday, June 17. The Melbourne show is all-ages, and those 18 years or under can attend with an adult.

Been there, done that? Think again, my friend.

Indie rock heroes Arctic Monkeys sell out comeback gigs in Australia with an album made for space rockers

On the eve of his band’s first Australian tour in five years, Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner recalls his fondest memories of Oz — and they’re not what you would expect.

NO all-night drinking sessions with Neil Young or The Prodigy backstage at the Big Day Out. No patting of kangaroos or petting of koalas on a day-off visit to a wildlife park. No outrageous boat cruise replete with supermodels and litres of French bubbles.

Ask Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner for his fondest memory of the British band’s various tours to Australia over the past 12 years and he divulges the most unrock’n’roll recollection.

Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys gets his swagger on. Picture: Amy Harris/Invision/AP.

“I don’t think I’ve never had anything but a really good time every time we come down there,” he says after many seconds of deliberation.

“I think we played golf on one trip to Australia (in 2014) and I don’t play that often. I remember doing a very good bunker shot. A friend of mine was filming this bunker shot and it ended up like James Bond.

“I don’t know if Bond plays golf but if he did, his bunker shots would look like mine.”

The Arctic Monkeys return to Australia, and perhaps our golf courses, in February next year with their world tour in support of their sixth studio record, Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino.

The band’s first record in five years, it debuted at No. 1 on the ARIA charts here when it was released in May.

While it opens with the lyric “I just wanted to be one of The Strokes” from first track Star Treatment, the album was a dramatic reinvention of the Arctic Monkeys as stylish lounge and space pop protagonist. It was more Bowie meets Tame Impala than The Stones meets Queens of the Stone Age vibe of their previous record A.M.

It sounds like the same creative ambitions were at work in Turner that spurred Daniel Johns to hammer the nail in Silverchair’s rock coffin with their final album Young Modern.

Listening to its piano and bass-driven jazzy, psychedelic musical soup begs the question of how the hell do the Arctic Monkeys fit their breakthrough hit I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor or their previous record’s offerings including Arabella, One For The Road and Do I Wanna Know into the band of now?

Turner said Tranquility Base is his new normal, where his voice and artistic persona feel most comfortable.

But don’t freak out; they still play the old stuff.

“When I’m playing the new songs, I’m at my most comfortable, I think,” he says.

“They are in the right range for me right now, and I mean that literally, with my singing voice. But also beyond that, deeper than that, if you allow me to be so bold, this is where we are now.”

One Arctic Monkey is not like the other Arctic Monkeys. Picture: Supplied

The sonic ambitions of the Arctic Monkeys aren’t the only things that have changed for Turner and his bandmates Matt Helders, Jamie Cook and Nick O’Malley since their 2006 debut album Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not hit No. 1 in the UK and Australia.

On their first Australian tour in 2006, which sold out in mere minutes, they played a frenetic 45 minute set, Turner’s strumming arm moving so fast you feared it might fly off into the screaming, sweaty audience.

Now, the frontman is more of a performer with swagger and groove, a showman albeit one who still appears reluctant to command the spotlight.

The cheeky lads look all grown-up now. Jamie Cook, Nick O'Malley, Matt Helders and Alex Turner in Sydney in 2007. Picture: News Corp Australia.

“You’ve got to think of something if you are going to (keep doing) it, if you’re going to tell that joke that many times. You have to think of a new way to move your body,” Turner says about his onstage vibe.

“It also has something to do with the passage of 12 years of time, it was a gradual thing but I know where you’re coming from about (my performance).

“It is very different to the way it was in the theatres of Australia back then where I was probably clinging on for dear life. Which I still feel now, probably more so on some nights.”

But truth be told, Turner isn’t a live guy unlike many of his rock mates including Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme who co-produced their 2009 record Humbug.

Playing the showman, embracing some kind of inner rock god meets lounge prince, isn’t his preferred role.

Alex Turner wears his sunglasses at night. Picture: Amy Harris/Invision/AP.

“I probably don’t enjoy it as much as it looks like I do,” Turner says.

“I think as time has gone on, if I’m being honest, I enjoy the studio side of it more than touring. I’m not one of those people that it comes naturally to and I know some of them people who are born performers.

“I’m not really selling the show, am I? Obviously I don’t dislike it; it’s a performance, isn’t it?”

The Arctic Monkeys Australian tour kicks off at RAC Arena, Perth on February 23,

Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne on February 26 and 27, Qudos Bank Arena, Sydney on March 1 and 2 and Brisbane Entertainment Centre on March 3.

Arctic Monkeys add second Melbourne show to 2023 Australian tour

They'll now be playing back-to-back shows in the Victorian capital

arctic monkeys

Arctic Monkeys have added a second Melbourne show to their 2023 Australian tour .

The band’s run of Australian dates have been hugely popular, with the first Melbourne show and their Brisbane leg already selling out. In response to the high demand, they’ve added a second stop in Melbourne, at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl.

The outfit will now be playing in the Victorian capital on Wednesday January 4 and Thursday January 5, with support act Mildlife joining them for both dates. They’ll then play a sold-out show at Brisbane’s Riverstage on Wednesday January 11, and wrap up at The Domain in Sydney on Saturday January 14, where they’ll be joined by both DMA’S and The Buoys .

Tickets for the remaining shows are available here .

The shows were announced last week after it was revealed the British rockers would be coming to Australia for Falls Festival in Byron Bay, Fremantle and Birregurra (Victoria), as well as Adelaide spin-off Heaps Good .

It’s the first time the band will have been in the country since their last visit in 2019, when they toured their most recent studio album ‘Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino’.

Late last year, Arctic Monkeys’ drummer Matt Helders said that the band’s seventh studio album was “pretty much” finished and was likely to arrive in summer 2022. Though the record is yet to be officially announced, Helders dropped more hints about what to expect in a May interview, saying it “picks up where ‘Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino’ left off”.

Sabrina Carpenter's new album Short n' Sweet leads this week's best new music releases

By Dan Condon

By Al Newstead

Topic: Music (Arts and Entertainment)

Sabrina Carpenter, a 25-year-old blonde woman, lies beside a roaring fireplace. She is wearing blue negligee and heels.

Sabrina Carpenter's Short n' Sweet offers emotional depth amongst its raunchy takes. It's one of our picks for the best new albums right now. ( Supplied: Universal Music )

All excited about the Oasis reunion ? Us too!

Don't forget though, there is excellent new music released every week. We reckon the five albums below are well and truly worth your time.

Sabrina Carpenter – Short n' Sweet

Sabrina Carpenter turns her head to look over her shoulder before a blue background

It might be the pint-sized pop singer's sixth studio album, but for many, Short n' Sweet will be their first full Sabrina Carpenter record. And it's a fine introduction to her fun, frothy songwriting.

A former Disney child star, Carpenter's profile exploded after she got the world addicted to her inescapable hit 'Espresso' and its pleasurably moreish follow-up 'Please Please Please'.

Opening up multiple stops of Taylor Swift's Eras tour – including the Australian leg – certainly didn't hurt. But where Swift often offers tortured, sanitised depictions of her heartbreaks, Carpenter skewers bad boyfriends far more playfully.

"What a surprise, your phone just died / Your car dove itself from LA to her thighs," she chides on the charmingly sarcastic 'Coincidence', whose acoustic strumming and "na-na-na"s gently evoke 70s folk music.

"I heard you're back together and if that's true / You'll just have to taste me when he's kissin' you," she teases an ex's new partner on 'Taste', the glossy pop-rock opener groomed to be Carpenter's next big hit (complete with a video starring a chainsaw-wielding Jenna Ortega).

It's more likely fans will flock towards the flirty, lite-R&B of 'Bed Chem' or 'Slim Pickins', which bemoans the shortage of good men to date, set to a countrified arrangement kissed by slide guitar.

However, the Belinda Carlisle-sounding 'Juno', which flips the name of the 2007 teen pregnancy dramedy into a bedroom invitation to test out "some freaky positions" and "fuzzy pink handcuffs", is an overreach in the raunchy lyrical stakes.

Don't let the saucy couplets and Barbie looks fool you, though. There's some emotional depth to complement the winking sass and bright, catchy tunes: "You don't have to lie to girls / If they like you, they'll just lie to themselves / Don't I know it better than anyone else?" Carpenter sings on Lie to Girls.

Short n' Sweet's title is a play on Carpenter's 1.5m height, but it also reflects the album's appeal – a set of rigorously written and produced songs with wit as sharp as their hooks that'll likely take little time to get under your skin.

Sycco – Zorb

A collage of various images including Sycco yelling with head in hands

On her debut album, 23-year-old Brisbane artist Sycco gives us versatile takes on pop's various forms. ( Supplied: Future Classic )

Sycco's early single 'Dribble' was one of the great pandemic anthems for me: It became a fixture of playlists to accompany sitting in the living room staring at the wall, and I bent and twisted the lyrics in countless ways to incorporate the names of my pets.

Four years on from that undeniable scorcher of a song, which for many was their astounding introduction to young Brisbane artist Sasha McLeod, we get Zorb, the 23-year-old singer-songwriter's first full-length album. And while her many singles have prepared us for the breadth of her modern pop, few would be expecting her to hit every target with such finesse.

Opening track 'Buttered Up' gives us neo soul enfolded by vintage synths, 'I'd Love to Tell You' throws us into the dazzling world of future-pop, and 'Bad World' pulls together fuzz guitar, autotune and a semi-classical synth breakdown to make for a joyfully psychedelic moment.

Before long, there's a surprising gospel turn in 'I'm Here Now', replete with a verse from American rapper redveil, which somehow fits neatly despite a complete absence of hip hop across the rest of the album.

An album in 2024 without a sadgirl moment feels empty. 'Crossed My Mind' doesn't just tick that box but is one of the sleeper highlights of the album; a quiet moment tucked in towards the back that show McLeod's immense ability when most of the flashy sonic embellishments are stripped away and it's just her voice and her songs.

The album is so deftly executed that it kinda stings to say that 'Ripple', the monstrous hit single produced by future-pop elder statesmen Flume and Chrome Sparks, remains its highlight. That shouldn't take away from the quality of Sycco's other material, it's just that much of a banger.

If you're interested in the future of Australian pop music, you should be very interested in Sycco.

Fontaines D.C. – Romance

An image of a heart shedding a tear on cover of Fontaines DC album Romance

Romance sees Fontaines D.C. changing from long-term producer Dan Carey to James Ford, and a label switch from Partisan to XL Recordings. ( Supplied: XL Recordings / Remote Control Records )

On audacious lead single 'Starburster', Fontaines D.C. rewired their atmospheric post-punk into a startling new configuration. It's a dark, tongue-in-cheek tirade of rapped references – spanning J.D. Salinger, the SAG-AFTRA strike and the Chinese zodiac – punctuated by distressing gasps for air.

It presaged surprising things from the Grammy-nominated Irish rock band on their fourth album. Although Romance isn't quite the radical departure suggested by interviews name-checking Korn and the band's new Y2K wardrobe (think Spice Girls meets nu-metal), it is another bold step forward for their ever-evolving sound.

We hear lush string arrangements, shoegaze-y guitar textures, and even a whiff of Lana Del Rey to the dreamy melancholy of 'In the Modern World'.

Other songs evoke historic alt-rock crossover successes: The Smiths (in the jangling 'Bug'), Nirvana (the grungy 'Death Kink') and The Cure at both their gloomiest (the murky title track) and most loved-up (sunny closer 'Favourite' – the sweetest song Fontaines have ever made).

Following his 2023 solo album Chaos for the Fly, frontman Grian Chatten further pushes his flinty, accented vocals in interesting directions on Romance. He gives some of his greatest melodies and performances yet, while shifting his bar-stool poetry and sly political commentary toward the idea of "falling in love at the end of the world".

"Will someone find out what the word is that makes the world go round?" he begs on bittersweet stand-out 'Horseness Is the Whatness'. ''Cause I thought it was love."

It's a long way from the noisy missives of the band's 2019 debut album Dogrel, which brought Fontaines D.C. instant attention only for them to release a challenging rebuttal follow-up A Hero's Death just 15 months later.

Now — after winning multiple awards and topping the UK charts with 2022's Skinty Fia — Fontaines are at the precipice of becoming a supernova. Rather than retreat from the spotlight again, the band embraces their growing popularity on Romance, without relinquishing the restless creativity and moody artistry that's defined them so far.

They sound like future festival headliners who've achieved mass appeal on their own artistic terms.

Magdalena Bay – Imaginal Disk

magdalena bay

The LP loosely follows the story of the protagonist, True, whose body rejects a "consciousness upgrade" from the titular "Imaginal Disk". ( Supplied: Mom + Pop Music )

Mercurial World, the 2021 debut album from Los Angeles duo Mica Tenenbaum and Matthew Lewin, was a word-of-mouth success that put a refreshing spin on genre-bending synth-pop, presented with a nostalgia for early internet aesthetics (think Windows XP and GeoCities webpages).

Their visionary follow-up, Imaginal Disk, is even more ambitious and harder to classify.

It's a conceptually dense, wildly kaleidoscopic listen defined by relentlessly shapeshifting production that seamlessly blends organic and synthetic instrumentation and textures. Every song takes you on an adventure, often starting and ending in completely different sonic worlds and musical eras.

'Killing Time' begins as a lounge-y groove but reaches a crunchy climax via a space-age guitar solo. The fuzzy, addictive stomp of 'That's My Floor' makes one of life's mundanities – an elevator ride – sound like a hallucinogenic trip.

'Cry for Me' takes ABBA as a blueprint and erects a glowing disco pop cathedral of bittersweet melody, while the psychedelic, hooky 'Death & Romance' is what Tame Impala producing Dua Lipa should've sounded like: an effortless fusion of pop and prog instincts.

From the skipping CD effect closing 'Watching T.V.' to the tempo shifts and explosive drum fills of 'Tunnel Vision', the intimidating number of ear-grabbing flourishes can be overwhelming.

But those same details reward multiple listens and for all the music's twists and turns, everything is beautifully sequenced, with plenty of immediate hooks to pull you along, like planets offering temporary solid footing before rocketing off into the cosmos once more.

Tenenbaum's voice – a breathy, bubblegum croon that occasionally breaks into theatrical falsetto – also brings a cohesion to what often sounds like the bizarre love child of Grimes, Regurgitator and The Beatles at their most psychedelic.

Speaking of the Fab Four, the album ends with the self-referential 'The Ballad of Matt & Mica'. Embedded between the fizzing melodies and fantastical sounds is a lyric that amounts to Magdalena Bay's boundary-pushing declaration of intent: "Not ordinary."

Emily Wurramara – NARA

Singer Emily Wurramara wears head jewels and has hand on her chin

Emily Wurramara's second album NARA sees her interrogate the best and worst relationships of her life. ( Supplied: ABC Music )

Fans of Warnindhilyagwa woman Emily Wurramara have been waiting a long time for NARA, her recently released second album. Once you hear it, that wait will feel insignificant – this is a comprehensive exploration of the many dimensions of Emily Wurramara's musical powers.

There are plenty of the intimate moments that earned her a place in so many of our hearts over the years, but they sit alongside splashes of pop, rock, soul, reggae and more, as Wurramara generously bares her soul and invites us into some of the best and worst relationships she's faced through her life.

'STFAFM' is a hell of an earworm; its catchy, defiant, vaguely profane and immensely relatable chorus will be a sure-fire crowd favourite. 'It's You' will fill your heart as Wurramara sings, "Every breath is freedom, and freedom is so lovely", before she then smashes that same heart to pieces with the painfully nostalgic 'FRIEND', a tragic lament about insincere friendship.

Wurramara's various collaborations contribute to NARA's generally open-hearted feeling, bringing a warm, familial feel to the album. The sad and slow-moving 'WWGBH' sees her link up with Velvet Trip's Zep Hamilton and the island vibes remain strong on 'See Me There', a gorgeous duet with Lisa Mitchell. While Arringarri might be Wurramara's little brother, he's particularly sage in his spoken word turn on 'STFAFM' and it feels good to know he's on her team.

For all the points mentioned above, there's one far simpler thing that's going to make you fall in love with this record: Emily Wurramara's voice. It's an instrument with the power of a freight train, the beauty of a sunset, and one that can play with your emotions more deftly than just about any rom-com. Hit play on any track here and, when the singing starts, you'll understand.

„This is it, this is happening“ – was viele Fans kaum für möglich gehalten haben, wird nun wahr: Oasis melden sich 2025 zurück.

Liam Gallagher - Supersonic (Reading & Leeds 2024)

Oasis – 'Definitely Maybe' - Noel Gallagher In Conversation With John Robb [Full Interview]
