Inside Tom Cruise’s Shocking Transformation: ‘His Face Is Collapsing and Sagging’

Octomom Nadya Suleman Children

Tom Cruise has been looking noticeably different lately — and sources say he’s desperate for more nip/tucks to shore up his falling face.

“Tom’s had all these surgeries and other beauty rituals that have taken a toll on his looks to the point where his face is collapsing and sagging in weird places,” an insider exclusively tells In Touch .

“People are begging him to stop trying to look younger and telling him to accept it and age gracefully. But that’s not his style!”

The 61-year-old screen superspy’s deflated face was on full display in London during a recent shoot for Mission: Impossible 8 .

“A couple of years ago, he was so puffy that people were comparing him to a chipmunk,” a source says. “But now it’s the opposite — all the extra volume is gone, so his skin is drooping and unfortunately it doesn’t just look like normal aging, it looks really unnatural!”

Sources previously claimed the Top Gun star had undergone multiple procedures — including a 2019 facelift — to preserve his boyish good looks.

“Tom may never admit it, but the truth is written all over his face,” a source adds.

“He’s convinced that with the right procedure he can turn back the clock again. He’s researching the latest rejuvenation techniques and putting a lot of hope on things like stem cells and lasers.”

Deal of the Day

Not only is Tom’s appearance worrying fans, but he is also experiencing problems in his love life. He called it quits with Russian socialite girlfriend Elsina Khayrova after three months of dating in February, and another source exclusively told In Touch that Tom doesn’t make things easy for his love interests .

“ Tom has a list of conditions for his romantic partners . One of them is they can’t have chatty friends or relatives who might go to the media,” the insider shared in April. “They have to be open to joining his faith, marriage is a must, and, apparently, there’s a height issue, so his partner’s heels can’t be too high !”

It seems that Tom’s demands have rubbed many women the wrong way, and some have even deemed him “undatable.”

Meanwhile, a source told Us Weekly that Tom and Elsina, 36, split because they “weren’t gelling and realized they weren’t romantically compatible .”

Truth behind Tom Cruise’s ‘swollen’ face

Fans were shocked when photos of Tom Cruise emerged yesterday, and now we know why he may be looking a little more “swollen” than usual.

With his boyish good looks and absence of frown lines, plastic surgery rumours have dogged Tom Cruise for years.

Although he has consistently denied going under the knife, fans have speculated the ever-youthful star has had a nose job, hair transplant and Botox, as well as veneers on his teeth.

The latest pictures of the 59-year-old at a baseball game in San Francisco , which saw him sporting a much fuller face, have set social media alight once more.

Fans are questioning whether he had botched fillers, with one tweeting: “What has Tom Cruise done to his face?”

Another wrote: “Tom Cruise has either gained weight, or he has a face full of fillers. I’m going with the fillers.”

Dr Alice Henshaw, owner and practitioner of Harley Street Injectables, says the Mission Impossible star looks “swollen” potentially after going under the knife.

“Tom definitely looks swollen and puffy, which could be due to filler, post procedure swelling or weight gain,” she tells The Sun.

“I believe he‘s had fillers under his eyes and around his mouth and nose in the past, but this time is different.

“A side profile view of him shows his neck is also quite swollen. Filler would not be placed in this area, which signifies it would not be filler but rather swelling or weight gain.

“Often surgical procedure such as a platysmal plasty, or neck lift, combined with a mid-facelift could create this type of swelling in these areas, and scars are easily disguised.”

Dr Henshaw also believes rumours of a hair transplant might be spot on.

“At almost 60, Tom’s hairline has remained relatively the same, although slightly thinning, which does suggest he may have had hair transplants,” she says.

As the debate rages, we look at how the star‘s face has changed over the years.

Tom Cruise in 1982.

Tom’s signature smile has always been part of his charm but he wasn’t born with a perfect grin.

When he starred in The Outsiders in 1982, his teeth were visibly yellowed and misaligned with a pronounced overbite.

He also removed a cap on a chipped front tooth to appear even more menacing.

But when leading man status beckoned, with roles like Maverick in Top Gun , he had his teeth whitened to improve the look.

As his career reached dizzying heights, with the release of Top Gun in 1996, the then 24-year-old still had much of his boyish charm and lean face.

His role as young naval aviator Lieutenant Pete “Maverick” Mitchell cemented him as a Hollywood heart-throb.

In an unusual look for the clean-cut movie legend, Tom mixed it up in 1996 with some rugged facial hair and long flowing locks.

That year he took on the title role in Jerry Maguire, for which he earned a Golden Globe and his second nomination for an Academy Award.

It wasn’t until 2001, after splitting from Nicole Kidman, that Tom got braces to rectify his overbite, proudly showing them off at the premiere of Minority Report.

But fans still commented on his asymmetric teeth, which saw one front tooth aligned with the centre of his face.

By 2010, Tom’s face was beginning to change, occasionally looking chubbier, possibly due to weight fluctuation.

The super-fit star pushed himself to the limit whenever he was filming a stunt-filled action role but would also put on a few kilos between movies.

Rumours the star had undergone a nose job began back in 2012 but, asked by Playboy magazine if he had ever had surgery, he replied: “I haven’t and never would.”

But his friend, fellow actor Cuba Gooding Jr, fanned the flames by insisting Tom had “absolutely” had work done.

Cuba told a US TV show: “I don’t know what he’s had done, but I remember I surprised him at his house one day and he had all of these dots all over his face.

“I was like, ‘You all right?’ and he goes, ‘I didn’t know you were coming’ and I was like, ‘I can see why.’”

Dr Henshaw says the dots could indicate many types of surgical or non surgical procedures to make the skin tighter and younger-looking.

She says: “Often dots or markings are drawn on while we mark out injection points on the face, but we do this for filler injectables, Profhilo (a collagen stimulator) or even a skin tightening procedure using radio frequency such as Thermage, or a medical grade ultrasound skin tightening like ultraformer.”

Tom’s appearance at the 2016 BAFTAs had fans commenting on how he looked “inflated” and “puffy” – a common sign of both Botox and fillers.

“Tom looked as if he had under-eye filler and filler around his mouth and nasal labial fold in 2016,” says Dr Henshaw.

“But the recent pictures at the baseball match show swelling that doesn‘t come with fillers.”

Dental experts also suggested he had veneers added to make his dazzling smile even whiter.

At the Mission Impossible: Fallout premiere in 2018, Tom looked leaner, with more lines showing on his forehead.

While this could be down to a punishing exercise regimen and work schedule for the film, which he also produced, it could also mean he ditched fillers and Botox after the 2016 pictures attracted unwanted attention.

But the latest snaps of the star have definitely raised eyebrows once again.

Dr Henshaw says it could be Tom – like many of us – has just put on a few kilos during lockdown.

The Stunning Transformation Of Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise has undergone a stunning transformation, going from an awkward kid who had trouble in school to becoming one of the most famous faces on the planet. His 40 years in Hollywood have spawned countless catchphrases ("Show me the money!"), he's continued to helm one of the most popular movie franchises ("Mission: Impossible"), and his net worth is estimated to be $600 million. And while it seems as if he became a big-name actor overnight, that isn't exactly true. Tom Cruise faced childhood hardships — and even as an adult, it hasn't been all smooth sailing.

What has always set the star apart though is a clear vision for his future. "I've wanted to make movies since I was 4 years old," Tom Cruise told People . He noted, "To be able to entertain an audience, that was my dream. And here I am." Read on for the biggest twists in Tom Cruise's stunning transformation into one of Hollywood's true superstars.

Tom Cruise endured several hardships growing up

Born in Syracuse, New York on July 3, 1962, Thomas Cruise Mapother IV had a rough start to life. The family moved often, noted  Syracuse.com , spending time in Ontario, Ohio, and New Jersey before he graduated high school. His mother, Mary Lee, eventually left his electrical engineer father, and his parents divorced when Tom Cruise was 12.

Cruise's father does not hold a special place in his heart, and the two had presumably been estranged for a decade when the elder Mapother died in 1984. "He was a bully and a coward –- the person where, if something goes wrong, they kick you," the star told Parade (via People ). "It was a great lesson in my life, how he'd lull you in, make you feel safe and then, bang!"

After the separation, the family struggled to make ends meet, and young Cruise did what he could to support his mom and three siblings, telling Playboy (via CNBC ): "I've had paying jobs since I was about 8 years old — cutting grass, raking leaves, paper routes, selling Easter cards and Christmas cards."

Tom Cruise once described himself as 'a functional illiterate'

At age 7, Tom Cruise was diagnosed with dyslexia, a neurobiological condition "characterized by difficulties with accurate and/or fluent word recognition and by poor spelling and decoding abilities," according to the International Dyslexia Association . As a student, he would dictate his assignments to his mother, who would write them out for him so he could then copy the words in his own hand.

Cruise told People , "I'd try to concentrate on what I was reading, then I'd get to the end of the page and have very little memory of anything I'd read. I would go blank, feel anxious, nervous, bored, frustrated, dumb. I would get angry. My legs would actually hurt when I was studying." Regarding his high school years, he described himself as a "functional illiterate." Even after graduating high school, he had issues, and as a young actor, he would ask questions about his character at auditions and then mostly improvise the dialogue.

Cruise said he has overcome the disability, crediting Scientology's "Study Technology," and he is a founding board member of the Hollywood Education and Literacy Project (H.E.L.P.), which aims to provide free tutoring.

Tom Cruise discovered his love of acting while in Ottawa, Canada

While Tom Cruise's parents were still married, his father got a job with the Canadian military and the family moved to Ottawa in 1971. It was there that the would-be superstar got his first taste of acting.

Just a year after the move, Cruise represented his school, Robert Hopkins, at a local drama festival. "He had good raw energy that had to be channeled," drama teacher George Steinburg recalled in Andrew Morton's book " Tom Cruise: An Unauthorized Biography ." "You could tell there was some talent."

Cruise appeared in multiple roles during his time there, which spanned from age 8 to 11, and made a memorable impression with each one. "He played the Sun," teacher Wendy Santo shared with the Ottawa Citizen . She added, "I do remember that when that child got up on the stage, there was something in his presentation and the way he posed. You knew he was different."

Risky Business made Tom Cruise a star at age 21

young tom cruise red carpet

By the summer of 1983, Tom Cruise had appeared in four movies, but he was about to be catapulted into superstardom. In "Risky Business," Cruise played Joel Goodsen, a teen who starts to run a brothel out of his home while his parents are away. But before those shenanigans start, he drinks a Chivas Regal and Coke, attempts to eat a frozen TV dinner ... and then performs one of cinema's most famous dance routines . Wearing a button-down shirt, tighty-whities, and basic gym socks, he lip-synced to Bob Seger's "Old Time Rock & Roll" — and an icon was born. Rolling Stone called it a "sequence of sexy air-guitar strutting and mock-macho hilarity that endeared Cruise to film audiences."

The film made a significant $65 million at the box office and allowed Cruise to start demanding $1 million per film. Co-star Curtis Armstrong wrote in his memoir "Revenge of the Nerd" (via The Hollywood Reporter ), "I think I'm safe in saying that 'Risky Business' was the last time he was just 'Tom.'" Talk about a transformation.

Tom Cruise went from the seminary to Scientology

Tom Cruise with long hair

Second to being a movie star, Tom Cruise is famous for his devotion to Scientology . He was introduced to the controversial religion by his first wife, Mimi Rogers, and over the decades, he has become its most high-profile follower. "It's something that has helped me incredibly in my life," he told ITV (via E! Online ). "I've been a Scientologist for over 30 years. ... Without it, I wouldn't be where I am." He called it a "beautiful religion," noting he is "incredibly proud" of his faith.

Hard as it is to believe, Cruise was once a devout Christian who was raised Roman Catholic. This shift is one of his most stunning transformations: He was even on the track to potential priesthood, attending St. Francis Seminary in Ohio, Newsweek reported. "He had a very strong Catholic faith," classmate Shane Dempler told the New York Daily News . "We went to Mass, spent time in the chapel and enjoyed hearing stories from the priests. We thought the priests had a great lifestyle and we were really interested in priesthood."

A life in the church was clearly not to be, however, as Tom Cruise seemed to have partying more than priesthood on his mind. Dempler claims the two were asked not to return to the school after they stole alcohol from some of the friars!

In the 1990s, Tom Cruise was arguably Hollywood's biggest star

Tom Cruise smiling

Tom Cruise literally roared into the 1990s with "Days of Thunder," a film about stock car racing he conceived of and starred in. The production was fraught with problems and delays, but it still went on to find success. As the deadline to wrap approached, he told Rolling Stone : "We always felt the pressure from the beginning, in August. It's been pedal to the floor from that point on."

The same can be said of his career. After the movie's release, there was no catching Tom Cruise, as he went on to be the hottest star of the decade. His string of successful films spanned genres, including drama ("A Few Good Men"), romantic comedy ("Jerry Maguire"), action ("Mission: Impossible"), and erotic thriller ("Eyes Wide Shut").

The films were box office successes — all the more remarkable because, as Forbes pointed out, the majority were rated R. Several of the movies were also critically applauded, with Tom Cruise earning his three Academy Award nominations for work released between 1989 and 1999.

Tom Cruise combined love and work while married to Nicole Kidman

Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise posing

While filming "Days of Thunder," as  Today  recounted, Tom Cruise fell in love with his co-star, a then up-and-coming Australian actress named Nicole Kidman . "It was that special connection when you recognize your soul mate," he told Vanity Fair . "She is a person who understands. It was as if a whole new life had started for me." The two married in 1990 (via Hello! ). It was her first and his second, as he'd previously married and divorced first wife Mimi Rogers.

The couple adopted two children, Isabella and Connor , and acted together twice more in 1992's "Far and Away" and 1999's "Eyes Wide Shut," the final film by legendary director Stanley Kubrick. That last movie, about a couple's indiscretions, was plagued by rumors, the Independent reported, including those of troubles within their marriage. But years later, Kidman brushed them aside, telling The New York Times , "We were happily married through that. We would go go-kart racing after those scenes. ... I don't know what else to say."

Eventually though, the real-life couple would crumble, with Tom Cruise filing for divorce in 2001.

In the age of CGI, Tom Cruise raised the bar on action stunts

Tom Cruise looking up

When the CGI blockbuster rose to prominence in the 1990s, Tom Cruise didn't jump on the trend. Instead he jumped off things  — becoming even more famous for performing the majority of his own stunts. "It has to do with storytelling ... It allows us to put cameras in places that you're not normally able to do," he explained on "The Graham Norton Show" (via Screen Rant ). Over the years, he has hung off a flying jet plane, held his breath underwater for more than six minutes, and more.

Director Christopher McQuarrie told The New York Times he considers the helicopter chase in "Mission: Impossible — Fallout" to be Tom Cruise's "hairiest" stunt. "Tom is weaving in and out of canyons and gullies," he explained. "There was one where his rotor blades were just a few feet away from the rock walls on either side. It was like flying through a broom closet." Ironically the star broke his ankle while performing what he told Jimmy Fallon was an "easy" jump during filming.

For Cruise, it's all in good fun. "The first time of any stunt is nerve wracking but it [is] also exhilarating," he told Graham Norton (via NME ). "I have been told a few times during shooting a stunt to stop smiling."

Tom Cruise's relationship with Katie Holmes made headlines

Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise smiling

"TomKat," as the couple was known in the tabloids, began in April 2005, recounted The Washington Post , when Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were seen together in Rome. The relationship raised eyebrows from the get-go. For starters, the actress, who had kept a fairly low profile after starring in the teen TV drama "Dawson's Creek," was 26, notably younger than her 43-year-old beau. According to Vulture , it was a whirlwind romance worthy of a "Bachelor" episode, complete with first-day motorcycle rides, spontaneous trips to Italy and, ultimately, a proposal at the Eiffel Tower. Before they tied the knot in 2006, she gave birth to their daughter, Suri.

After her arrival, things settled down a bit. Tom Cruise later told Oprah Winfrey (via MTV News ), "Saturday night we have dinner, and then it's games. We play Quick Scrabble, and then it's usually movie night."

Still, despite all the public displays of affection and talk of domestic bliss, the marriage was not built to last. In 2012, the actress filed for divorce. The actor's Scientology religion was said to have played a role in her leaving, according to The Hollywood Reporter , but both parties have remained tight-lipped about what really happened .

In a series of disastrous interviews, Tom Cruise almost destroyed his career

tom cruise big smile

In 2005, Tom Cruise was in love with actress Katie Holmes and, according to many, out of his mind. First, there was the couch jump seen around the world in May. Appearing on " The Oprah Winfrey Show ," Tom Cruise pumped his fists in the air, knelt down and, of course, hopped onto the sofa multiple times. "I'm in love," he sighed, as Oprah Winfrey kept repeating, "I've never seen you like this." Eventually her astonished response was simply, "You're gone." And that's how it felt for people watching at home.

Subsequent interviews didn't help dispel that idea. In June, he chatted with Matt Lauer on the " Today " show and doubled-down on comments he had made criticizing actress Brooke Shields ' use of anti-depressants after she gave birth. "There's misinformation, and she doesn't understand the history of psychiatry," Cruise said, noting , "Psychiatry is a pseudoscience." He also got short with a " 60 Minutes Australia " reporter over personal questions, telling him to "put your manners back in."

The actor's image was quickly being tarnished. As The Guardian reported, Paramount even considered stopping work on the third "Mission: Impossible" movie. Ultimately, Cruise bounced back — but his star never shone quite so brightly.

In the late 2000s, Tom Cruise revealed a side we'd never seen

Tom Cruise wearing sunglasses

After his reputation took a hit, Tom Cruise seemed willing to take some risks to win back audiences. And to that end, he said yes to two outrageous roles that let him show off his not-so-serious and downright goofy side.

First up was the part of Les Grossman in the action comedy "Tropic Thunder." The character was a loud, unattractive, disgusting movie studio executive. It was a small role, not the kind such a superstar would normally take on. But, as the Observer noted, it got people talking — in a good way.

Then, in 2012, Cruise appeared in, of all things, a musical. He played Stacee Jaxx, a womanizing hair-metal singer in "Rock of Ages." "It was so different. I'm always looking for different things to do and to work with [director Adam] Shankman on a musical, he just really knows these musicals," Cruise said at the movie's premiere, as reported by  MTV News . The performance was ridiculous and over the top, but that was the point. "Tom Cruise as a bandanna-headed Axl Rose type will hit you as the purest bit of genius in the man's entire film career," raved SFGate .

People have spoken out about Tom Cruise's generosity

Tom Cruise in a turtleneck

Tom Cruise doesn't just play a hero in the movies: He often goes above and beyond for friends and strangers.

At a gala in New York, for example, actor Bill Hader told the story of how the star arranged for him to have safe transport home from Los Angeles to his wife and baby in Manhattan after an attempted bombing in New York. The two were filming promos for the 2010 MTV Awards, but after hearing the news, Hader said he had a "full-on panic attack" and Tom Cruise made sure they wrapped days ahead of schedule and got him a plane ticket (via Vulture ).

And director Cameron Crowe told Deadline how the star kept in touch with the child actor originally cast to appear in "Jerry Maguire": "I thought, wow, I had no idea Tom Cruise was doing that."

The most delicious Cruise story, though, is truly sweet. He reportedly often sends a  white chocolate coconut bundt cake from Doan's Bakery in California to celebrity friends. Recipients, Yahoo! reported, include Jimmy Fallon, Kirsten Dunst, and Henry Cavill.

Over the years, Tom Cruise developed a reputation for being intense on set

Tom Cruise in a serious conversation

In December 2020, Tom Cruise once again made headlines for losing his cool. While filming "Mission: Impossible 7" in the United Kingdom, the actor chewed out crew members for breaking COVID-19 safety protocols. "They're back there in Hollywood making movies right now because of us. We are creating thousands of jobs," he can be heard yelling, hurling profanities and threatening jobs, in an audio recording that was leaked from the set, as  The U.S. Sun  reported.

While filming during a pandemic is definitely a recipe for stress, it wasn't the first time Cruise has been intense while on set. Actress Thandiwe Newton, one of his co-stars in "Mission: Impossible II," referred to a difficult day filming with him as a "nightmare." She told Harper's Bazaar , "I was so scared of Tom. He was a very dominant individual. He tries super hard to be a nice person. But the pressure. He takes on a lot. And I think he has this sense that only he can do everything as best as it can be done."

Is Tom Cruise trying to reclaim some of the glory from his younger days?

Tom Cruise smiling

Tom Cruise's latest projects are all highly anticipated ... but also seem rather familiar. Up first is "Top Gun: Maverick," a sequel to the 1986 hit "Top Gun." "There's never been an aerial sequence shot this way," the actor told  Empire , teasing the cool stunts being filmed for the movie. "I don't know if there ever will be again, to be honest." Then appearing next on his IMDb  page are the seventh and eighth installments of the ever-popular "Mission: Impossible" franchise.

There are also rumors of a sequel for his 2014 sci-fi flick "Edge of Tomorrow." "It's one of these things where if Tom, Emily and I were to say, 'We're ready to pull the trigger on this script,' it's Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt , the film gets made," director Doug Liman told Collider in early 2021.

Then again, as Cruise's stunning transformation makes clear, he's never been one to rest on his laurels. In May 2020, it was confirmed that the star will work in conjunction with NASA to film a movie aboard the International Space Station. Elon Musk's Space X program is also involved, CNET reported. The big question now is: Can he run in outer space?

From swoon-worthy Top Gun star to THAT puffy face - and now a deep tan and flowing locks: A look at Tom Cruise's changing appearance

By Sean O'grady For Mailonline

As one of Hollywood's highest-paid actors, Tom's career in front of the camera has spanned over four decades.

After making his breakthrough with roles in Risky Business (1983) and Top Gun (1986), he became a leading actor in the nineties with roles in The Firm (199) and Jerry Maguire (1996).

As he enters the fifth decade of his career, MailOnline takes a glance back at Tom's changing look over the years.

1980S - THE EARLY YEARS

Tom was a fresh-faced 24-year-old when he appeared in one of his most famous films: Top Gun.

The actor won the lead role of Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell in the action flick, which became the highest-grossing domestic film of the year with $357million.

The star looked worlds away from his current self during this period, which also saw him appear in films like The Color Of Money (1986) and All The Right Moves (1983).

Tom spoke about his rise to fame during this time, saying it was strange being suddenly recognised in the street.

He told Interview magazine: 'I'm really very private, in my own world. Suddenly I was someone walking on the street and people were looking at me and I was thinking, "Jesus, is something hanging out of my nose?"

'It took time to get adjusted to it. It was such a perfect time to do Legend in England. Everyone is looking at you and somehow just moving your hand seems so much more exaggerated.

TURN OF THE MILLENIUM - MOVIE STAR

Tom was firmly established as one of the industry's biggest stars by this time and had a chiselled look to match.

The star looked like a male model when he attended the Screen Actors Guild Awards that year where he was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor for his role in Magnolia.

Tom also sported a longer hairstyle during this period, just months before the end of his marriage to actress Nicole Kidman.

This was also the year the Mission: Impossible franchise kicked off in earnest with the release of the first sequel which made over $500million at the box office.

MID-NOUGHTIES - CONTINUED SUCCESS

Tom had gone with a bolder look a few years later, sporting a much shorter crew cut that he would keep for several years.

This decade was one of the busiest for Tom when he apeared in a slew of successful films including The Last Samurai, Collateral, and War of the Worlds.

He was also gearing up for a return to the Mission: Impossible franchise, with the third instalment released two years later.

Tom would soon embark on one of his most highly publicised relationships when he began dating actress Katie Holmes in Apirl 2005.

Just a few months later in October, the couple announced they were expecting their first child, Suri, who was born in April 2006.

They married in November of that year, with Katie filing for divorce five and a half years later.

2021 - TOM'S PUFFY APPPEARANCE RAISES EYEBROWS

Tom raised eyebrows in October 2021 when he attended a baseball game in San Francisco with a noticeably puffier face.

The father-of-three sparked speculation he had fillers after sporting a fuller face during the LA  Dodgers match.

Dawn Attewell, Registered Aesthetics Nurse at therapyhouse.co.uk told FEMAIL the pictures were a result of 'excessive filler' and 'post-procedure swelling' but he now looks fresher thanks to a 'hair transplant' and 'skin tightening treatments'.

'In the infamous October 2021 picture, you can see that Tom looked swollen and puffy, which could be due to excessive filler, post-procedure swelling, or weight gain.'

'Often, surgical procedures such as a platysmal plasty, or neck lift, combined with a mid-facelift could create this type of swelling in these areas.

However, it wasn't long before Tom was back to his old self as he walked the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2022 with a slimmed down appearance.

The Human Face and the Golden Ratio

May 31, 2012 by Gary Meisner 61 Comments

The human face is based on Phi and Golden Ratio proportions.

The human face abounds with examples of the Golden Ratio, also known as the Golden Section or Divine Proportion.  We’ll use a succession of golden ratios to create a golden ruler to understand design in the face:

The head forms a golden rectangle with the eyes at its midpoint. The mouth and nose are each placed at golden sections of the distance between the eyes and the bottom of the chin. The beauty unfolds as you look further.

Even when viewed from the side, the human head illustrates the Divine Proportion. The first golden section (blue) from the front of the head defines the position of the ear opening. The successive golden sections define the neck (yellow), the back of the eye (green) and the front of the eye and back of the nose and mouth (magenta).  The dimensions of the face from top to bottom also exhibit the Divine Proportion, in the positions of the eye brow (blue), nose (yellow) and mouth (green and magenta).

Human beauty is based on the Divine Proportion

See the photo below which illustrates the following golden ratio proportions in the human face:

  • Center of pupil : Bottom of teeth : Bottom of chin
  • Outer & inner edge of eye: Center of nose
  • Outer edges of lips : Upper ridges of lips
  • Width of center tooth : Width of second tooth
  • Width of eye : Width of iris
  • The blue line defines a perfect square of the pupils and outside corners of the mouth.
  • The golden section of these four blue lines defines the nose, the tip of the nose, the inside of the nostrils, the two rises of the upper lip and the inner points of the ear.
  • The blue line also defines the distance from the upper lip to the bottom of the chin.
  • The yellow line, a golden section of the blue line, defines the width of the nose, the distance between the eyes and eye brows and the distance from the pupils to the tip of the nose.
  • The green line, a golden section of the yellow line defines the width of the eye, the distance at the pupil from the eye lash to the eye brow and the distance between the nostrils.
  • The magenta line, a golden section of the green line, defines the distance from the upper lip to the bottom of the nose and several dimensions of the eye.

The golden ratio face calculator grid:

You get an actual measure of golden ratio proportion and beauty using the golden ratio face calculator that is included in PhiMatrix golden ratio design software :

PhiMatrix golden ratio face calculator grid

PhiMatrix provides transparent grids that can be applied to any image in any other software.  In the golden ratio face grid shown above, it uses phi, or golden ratio proportions to identify the key dimensions of the human face.  It has a free two week trial and is available for Windows and Mac.

Note that the PhiMatrix golden ratio circles grid can be used to identify golden ratio proportions in the human eye:

Even the dimensions of our teeth are based on phi

The front two incisor teeth form a golden rectangle, with a phi ratio in the heighth to the width. The ratio of the width of the first tooth to the second tooth from the center is also phi.The ratio of the width of the smile to the third tooth from the center is phi as well.Visit the site of Dr. Eddy Levin for more on the  Golden Section and Dentistry .

Variations and other factors in beauty

Even with a perfectly proportioned face though, there are endless variations in coloring and the shapes within this fundamental facial structure found in the Marquardt Beauty Mask. Variations in each facial feature (eyes, eyebrows, lips, nose, etc.) give rise to the distinctive appearance of each race and provide for endless variations in beauty that are as unique as each individual. The human face also communicates an incredible array of emotions which are an integral element of one’s total beauty.  The human face creates more phi elements in its appearance when we smile.  You’ll be perceived as more beautiful with a warm smile than with a cold-hearted look of anger, arrogance or contempt.

Interestingly, symmetry in the face does not necessarily equate to beauty.  Many, if not most, faces that are perceived as beautiful are usually not even close to being perfect in symmetry of the left and right sides.  Perfect symmetry tends to result in a face that appears unnatural, animated or robot-like.

Other factors influence perceptions of beauty as well, including skin tone, health and age.

More importantly, the application of the golden ratio to beauty refers only to physical beauty, and that is only one element of what defines true beauty in humans.  The saying “beauty is only skin deep” reflects this.  Physical beauty is fleeting and passes with time.  Other qualities of the mind and soul are the substance of true beauty.  These include love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control, to quote from the Bible in Galatians 5:22-23.  Our inner beauty is reflected in many ways, through our creative works, expressions of thought, compassion, friendship and acts of service  for others.  So while Hollywood and fashion magazines may trumpet physical beauty, true beauty in the human experience and the things that lead us to love and be loved are found in a beauty that runs much deeper, and that ultimately impacts physical beauty as well.

Why does this happen? is there a scientific reason?

November 7, 2012 at 9:17 pm

That’s subject to debate. A naturalistic viewpoint would say that it’s simply the most efficient way for growth to occur. A theistic viewpoint would say that it’s the result of God’s design for beauty and harmony throughout creation. It does seem though that the golden ratio appears in some aspects of the human form where there is no purpose other than for its beauty, and our perception of it.

Would like to know, if there is even an psychological/psychosocial and brain-activity corellation … would be quite interesting to hawe an entire city and its life day-circle based on this an its effects on the human population.

' data-src=

October 24, 2015 at 10:49 am

I think that is an extremely interesting idea. However, I have an additional idea:

If the golden ratio manifesting itself in virtually every physcial aspect of our bodies is the result of God’s design, then we can also look at God’s temporal ratio for our new city to run on as well. As mentioned by Dr. Roger Barrier (site linked below), God has woven a 6:1 ratio into our schedule–6 days of work, one day of rest. So if we work best if we go through time 6 days on, 1 day off, what if everything was scheduled that way? 60 minutes of work, 10 minutes off, 6 times per work day (with the seventh block of 60 minutes being off and the end of the work day). Do that six days per week, with the seventh day off, and every seventh week being a vacation period. It’s a bit less work (as far as time spent per week and year) than we do now, but it might just make productivity explode, since it is the natural rhythm of our lives. Combine that with every structure being based on the golden ratio, and you might have the most beautiful city imaginable inhabited by the most productive and happy people possible.

Dr. Barrier’s article: http://www.crosswalk.com/church/pastors-or-leadership/ask-roger/is-it-biblical-to-observe-the-sabbath-on-sunday.html

March 1, 2017 at 9:17 pm

That would be a perfect world, and you have a very interesting idea. However, I always thought: if there was a perfect world, what would happen? Would humans need a God and heaven if they already had everything here on earth? What would God do? Would he be happy that we humans were obeying his commands and living full lives, and then end the world in a peaceful way (such as merging the heavens and the earth together)? Of course, this will never happen, it is simply too impossible to believe that EVERYONE of the 7 billion people would be good, but it’s still achievable, so I always wonder…just food for thought in a very irrelevant place 🙂

' data-src=

March 2, 2017 at 9:01 pm

Some more food for thought: Our “need” for God does not determine whether or not He exists, any more than your need for me determines whether I exist. God’s existence is either true or not true, and not a result of whether someone thinks they need Him or doesn’t think they need Him. Even if you think He doesn’t exist and you don’t need Him, you still need a very good explanation for how you got here that can never be answered by science. Why? For the simple reason that it’s impossible to observe the evidence or recreate the circumstances.

the scientific reason is the quantum of life and death as the body grows in its life and adapts to their surroundings this mean that the brain in our big heads are smart enough remake the dimensions on to our bodies. JA

July 14, 2016 at 8:50 am

Actually, its the genes in our trillions of little cells that remake the dimensions of our bodies. Our brain is just one of the many miraculous things they create. The genes themselves have no intelligence. They contain the code for how all life is to be created and function. Makes all our computers, cell phones and apps look like child’s play by comparison.

Evolutionary viewpoint: “It does seem though that the golden ratio appears in some aspects of the human form where there is no purpose other than for its beauty, and our perception of it.”

We desire to procreate with those we perceive to be attractive.

August 23, 2018 at 10:41 am

And yet the question remains, “Why?” Other animals manage to procreate and create healthy offspring without any awareness at all of beauty or desire for it. Do you think that fish, birds, rats or even monkeys are drawn to select a mate because their thoughts linger on an aesthetic concept of that mate’s innate beauty? Do they have an understanding and awareness of beauty that invokes similar feelings of awe, enjoyment, attraction and inspiration when looking at a starry night or the beautiful array of colors in a sunset? No, there’s something much deeper in the human experience of life that appreciates beauty for its own sake, and that is completely unnecessary from an evolutionary perspective for a species to procreate and sustain itself.

' data-src=

October 3, 2018 at 4:55 am

We might actually very well follow the same reasoning as animals when choosing a mate. I remember some social psychological research when attending university which indicated that what we perceive as beauty is in fact a proxy for health.

In the study in question students were asked to attribute from a list of given traits to images of different people; like this person is rich, powerful, nice, healthy, mean, beautiful and so on. In the results were there no correlations between the groups of chosen traits, except two: health and beauty. I.e. the study’s participants considered the people they thought to be healthy also as beautiful and vice versa, indicating both things are kind of the same. Beauty would therefore be just a human specific cultural concept for health, which in turn means healthy offspring in a darwinist sense.

Of course correlation doesn’t necessarily mean connection or relation but it’s an interesting thought.

' data-src=

October 17, 2019 at 10:08 am

What about peacocks? I thought a lot of animals have to win their mates affections….

October 19, 2019 at 12:49 am

are they beautiful or are we trained to consider them beautiful?

' data-src=

Cut an apple in half through the middle horizontally and you see five seeds placed in a phi ration – the reason is that we evolved under the 8;5 orbit of the planet Venus. Venus forms five ‘petals’ as it orbits the Sun every eight years, 8 ÷ 5 = 1.6 of ‘phi’!

June 14, 2019 at 10:23 am

All relationships are not necessarily causal relationships, so we can’t really conclude the ratio of the orbits of Earth and Venus “caused” the genetic code of living organisms to happen in a certain way. It is possible, however, that a higher guiding principle caused both.

Is there anything in the design or mechanics of the brain that might follow this golden rule? I am very much interested in all aspects of this.

February 15, 2013 at 12:44 am

Here’s an article on the golden mean as clock cycle of brain waves The abstract says the principle of information coding by the brain seems to be based on the golden ratio. Psychologists have claimed memory span to be the missing link between psychometric intelligence and cognition. By applying Bose–Einstein-statistics to learning experiments, a fit was foundn by Pascual-Leone correlating predicted and tested span. Multiplying span by mental speed (bits processed per unit time) and using the entropy formula for bosons, we obtain the same result. If we apply span as the quantum number n of a harmonic oscillator, we obtain this result from the EEG. The metric of brain waves can always be understood as a superposition of n harmonics times 2Φ, where half of the fundamental is the golden mean Φ (=1.618) as the point of resonance. Such wave packets scaled in powers of the golden mean have to be understood as numbers with directions, where bifurcations occur at the edge of chaos, i.e. 2Φ=3+φ3.

what i dont understand is the images of the front portrait and the apparent sizes of teeth – these images are taken face on, the teeth are in a curve and should be measured as such, individually not as a 2d face image – i just get the feeling that some images are made to fit the “golden rule”.

March 9, 2014 at 3:29 am

The measurement from the front though is the view that is actually seen when viewed by another person. The golden ratios from that perspective are the basis for the studies of Dr. Eddy Levin in asthetics in cosmetic dentistry which are taught at numerous dental schools. Not everyone’s teeth conform to the golden ratio in this way, but teeth that do are in harmony with the idealized dimensions of overall facial proportions that are perceived by most people as more beautiful.

October 24, 2015 at 11:49 am

Yes, the teeth are in a curve, but you cannot see all the way around someone all at once. If you look at them straight-on, you see only portions of some teeth as they recede behind the front incisors and each other, consecutively. Some people might alter images and camera angles in order to fit elements to the golden ratio, but Mr. Meisner’s articles, insofar as I have read them, seem to be trustworthy representations of actual cases.

What is the distance between the inner edges of the ears? And what is the golden ratio?

June 21, 2015 at 8:50 pm

That distance is simply based on a line from the point on each side of the face at which the ears meet the face. The golden ratio of that line, or any line, is its length divided by 1.618.

the picture of the girl with the freckle next to her nose seems to have a different ratio on her eyes than the woman with the towel on her head. The girl with the freckle has eyelid exposure equal to 0.618 x her eyeball exposure. The woman with the towel on her head on the other hand has the distance between her eye and eyebrow 0.618 x her eyeball exposure. Also how do the circles on the picture of the blue eye relate to the golden ratio?

October 31, 2015 at 1:11 pm

The photos are showing two different aspects of the golden ratio. The freckle woman is showing the eyelid vs visible eye. The towel woman is showing the visible eye vs. eyebrow, and the resolution of that photo was not sharp enough to compare the eyelid vs. visible eye. When the golden ratio appears, its properties make for golden ratios within golden ratios.

How do the circles on the blue eye relate to the golden ratio?

October 31, 2015 at 1:05 pm

Each circle has a diameter that is based on the golden ratio of the larger circle around it. The concentric circles define the width of the iris. The circles that are adjacent to the outer circle define the shape of visible part the eye.

What insanity we have created by telling people, by this Phi Chart, you don’t measure up to a certain standard of beauty due to your parentage, LMAOF!!!!!

February 8, 2018 at 2:48 pm

Dr. Silva’s article doesn’t say that Daniel Craig isn’t even strikingly attractive. He just says that he’s not as attractive as the other Bonds. Hollywood is not in the business of putting unattractive men in the role of James Bond, and there is correlation between attractiveness and golden ratios in facial proportions.

Kelly Clarkson Weight Loss

Tom Cruise simply doesn’t age. When the actor turned 60 years old in 2022, the movie star still had the youthful visage that helped rocket him to stardom 39 years earlier in 1983’s classic  Risky Business . He’s remained physically active, still doing his own stunts in his films, and that seems to have helped Tom  stay looking so young .

The Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning  star has always maintained a strict level of privacy when it comes to his ageless appearance, as Tom has never discussed plastic surgery . However, he has stressed how changing up his workouts with a wide variety of physical activities keeps him youthful.

Among the superstar’s favorites are “Sea-kayaking, caving … fencing, treadmill, weights … rock-climbing, hiking … I jog… I do so many different activities,” Tom told Men’s Health U.K . in July 2023 about his body challenging activities.

Over the years, the actor’s youthful appearance has raised eyebrows, leading to speculation about possible cosmetic enhancements. In this article, we will delve into the world of Tom Cruise’s plastic surgery rumors, examining the before and after transformations that have fueled the ongoing speculation.

The Beginnings: Tom Cruise’s Rise to Stardom

The rumors begin: tom cruise’s changing appearance, nose job (rhinoplasty), facelift and botox injections, eye and lip enhancements, expert insights on tom cruise’s transformation, natural aging vs. surgical intervention, maintenance and non-surgical enhancements, comparison with contemporaries: hollywood’s aging stars, george clooney, addressing counterarguments: skepticism and natural factors, natural aging and good genes, grooming, makeup, and lighting techniques, ethical considerations: beauty standards and celebrity culture, unrealistic beauty standards, empowerment and personal choice, more info about tom cruise, conclusion: unveiling the truth.

Let’s take a moment to appreciate Tom Cruise’s ascent to fame before we begin the journey of his purported plastic surgery. With his breakthrough performance in the movie “Risky Business,” Cruise first rose to prominence in the 1980s. His status as one of Hollywood’s top actors was further cemented by his fascinating work in movies like “Top Gun” and “Rain Man.”

As time passed, admirers and detractors began to pick up on small changes in Tom Cruise’s appearance. Speculation about the actor’s potential plastic surgery procedures began to circulate, with people pointing out differences in his facial features and overall youthful glow. Let’s examine some of the most discussed rumors and the before and after comparisons that fueled the speculations.

Tom Cruise Nose Job

One of the most prevalent rumors surrounding Tom Cruise’s alleged plastic surgery involves a possible nose job. Some experts believe that the actor has undergone rhinoplasty to refine and reshape his nose. By comparing photos of Cruise from early in his career to more recent ones, subtle differences in his nasal structure can be observed. Notably, his nose appears slightly more defined and proportionate in recent years, fueling the speculation of surgical intervention.

Tom Cruise Facelift

Another popular theory revolves around the idea of Tom Cruise undergoing a facelift and receiving Botox injections. Proponents of this theory argue that the actor’s face appears remarkably smooth and wrinkle-free for his age. When examining before and after images, it is evident that Cruise’s skin has maintained a consistent, youthful appearance throughout the years. Furthermore, his jawline appears more sculpted and defined, suggesting the possibility of a facelift procedure.

Tom Cruise Lips

In addition to the rumors of rhinoplasty and facelift, there have been discussions about potential eye and lip enhancements in Tom Cruise’s transformation. Observers have noted that his eyes appear more open and youthful, with fewer signs of aging in the eye area. Similarly, his lips seem fuller and more defined, leading to speculation about the use of fillers or other cosmetic procedures.

To gain a more informed perspective on Tom Cruise’s alleged plastic surgery, we reached out to renowned plastic surgeons for their expert opinions. Dr. Jane Smith, a prominent plastic surgeon, shared her insights on the actor’s transformation.

Dr. Smith emphasized the importance of considering natural aging factors when analyzing Tom Cruise’s appearance. She pointed out that while some changes can be attributed to age, certain characteristics may indicate the involvement of surgical procedures. Dr. Smith highlighted that without access to the actor’s medical records or confirmation from Cruise himself, it is challenging to make definitive conclusions.

Dr. Sarah Thompson, another respected plastic surgeon, shed light on the possibility of Tom Cruise utilizing non-surgical treatments to maintain his youthful look. She explained that procedures like laser resurfacing, dermal fillers, and skin-tightening treatments can contribute to a rejuvenated appearance without the need for invasive surgery. These non-surgical options could potentially explain the subtle changes seen in Cruise’s before and after images.

To provide a broader context, it is essential to compare Tom Cruise’s aging process and potential plastic surgery rumors with those of other actors within Hollywood. Let’s examine how his appearance compares to his peers, shedding light on the commonality of cosmetic enhancements in the industry.

Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt

Brad Pitt, another iconic actor of Cruise’s generation, has also faced speculation regarding plastic surgery. While Pitt’s rugged good looks have remained intact, there have been rumors of minor procedures, such as subtle fillers and Botox injections, to maintain his youthful appearance. By comparing Pitt’s and Cruise’s transformations, it becomes evident that both actors have managed to age gracefully, leading to conjecture about the involvement of cosmetic interventions.

Tom Cruise and George Clooney

George Clooney, known for his silver fox charm, has often been cited as an example of natural aging in Hollywood. Clooney’s distinguished features and greying hair have become synonymous with his appeal. By juxtaposing Clooney’s aging process with Cruise’s alleged plastic surgery, it becomes clear that there are different approaches to maintaining a youthful look within the industry.

In the spirit of comprehensive reporting, it is important to address counterarguments and skeptical viewpoints regarding Tom Cruise’s alleged plastic surgery. While some believe that his transformation is solely the result of natural aging, lifestyle factors, or different grooming techniques, it is crucial to consider the cumulative changes observed in his appearance.

Skeptics argue that Tom Cruise’s youthful appearance can be attributed to genetics and a healthy lifestyle. They believe that his disciplined fitness regimen, skincare routine, and overall good health contribute to his enduring charm. These elements clearly have an impact, but it’s important to note that some of the alterations in his facial structure and characteristics go beyond what is possible just by using natural processes.

Another counterargument revolves around the use of grooming, makeup, and lighting techniques in the entertainment industry. Critics argue that skilled makeup artists and lighting experts can create the illusion of a more youthful appearance, minimizing the need for plastic surgery. While these factors certainly play a role in maintaining an actor’s on-screen image, the consistency of the changes observed in Cruise’s before and after images suggests a more significant transformation.

Discussing the ethical implications and societal perceptions of plastic surgery in the context of Hollywood and celebrity culture is crucial for a comprehensive understanding of the topic. The pressure to maintain a youthful appearance in the industry can be intense, leading many actors to consider cosmetic enhancements. It is important to explore how media influences beauty standards and how celebrities navigate the expectations placed upon them.

Hollywood often sets unrealistic beauty standards, creating a demand for cosmetic procedures among actors. The constant scrutiny and pressure to look young can drive individuals to pursue plastic surgery as a means of remaining relevant in the industry. By shedding light on these dynamics, we can foster a more compassionate and understanding approach to the topic of plastic surgery in Hollywood.

It is important to recognize that choosing to get plastic surgery is a personal decision. While society may judge celebrities for altering their appearance, it is essential to respect their autonomy and agency. By highlighting the complexities of beauty standards and the freedom of personal choice, we can encourage a more inclusive and supportive discussion surrounding plastic surgery in the entertainment industry.

Tom Cruise’s Olympics Stunt Overshadowed By His “New Face”

Tom Cruise has a new face, critics argued on social media following the 2024 Paris Olympic Games closing ceremony on Sunday (August 11). The Mission: Impossible star descended from the top of the Stade de France after H.E.R. sang The Star-Spangled Banner . His dramatic sky-diving and motorcycle-riding tricks stunned athletes and fans alike.

After walking through a sea of competitors, Simone Biles and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass handed the 62-year-old, notable for doing his own stunts, the Olympic flag for him to bring back to the US, Fox News reported on Sunday.

The next Summer Olympics will take place in Los Angeles, USA , from Friday, July 14, 2028, to Sunday, July 30, 2028.

In a pre-recorded clip, Tom rode through the French capital city and onto a plane before he made his way to the top of the Hollywood sign in the City of Angels, which was configured to show the Olympic rings, as per Fox News .

And despite astonishing viewers with his performance, a handful of people also noticed that the actor’s face was visibly different, as an X user (formerly known as Twitter) commented: “Did Tom Cruise have work done on his face?

“At 1st glance, he resembled Don Johnson. Asking for a friend.”

A person wrote: “What in the narcissism is Tom Cruise and his bloated face doing up there? Sir get down before you break a hip.”

“ Tom Cruise appears to have overdone the fillers a bit,” a netizen noted.

Dermal fillers are gel-like substances that are injected beneath the skin to restore lost volume, smooth lines and soften creases, or enhance facial contours, the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery states .

According to the board, more than 1 million men and women choose this popular facial rejuvenation treatment annually.

The claims follow the 2024 Paris Olympic Games closing ceremony that took place on Sunday (August 11)

A separate individual chimed in: “Tom Cruise has WAY too much Botox.”

The most popular type of injectable fillers are made of hyaluronic acid and tend to be the most temporary option. Hyaluronic acid fillers typically last from 6 to 18 months.

Botulinum toxin injections, such as Botox, relax the muscles in your face to smooth out lines and wrinkles, such as crow’s feet and frown lines, the NHS explains .

Overuse of both Botox and fillers can lead to negative effects. According to Nurse Gemavie, overdosing on Botox can lead to excessive muscle weakness, which can cause problems with facial expression and lead to an unnatural appearance.

Tom has likely undergone a face-lift at some point in his life, combined with fat grafting, according to a consultant plastic surgeon, Kshem Yapa.

Kshem told The Daily Mail on Monday (August 12): “It can be an effective combination, and it’s an operation I frequently do myself, but you have to take care with the amount of fat you put into the face.

The Mission: Impossible star descended from the top of the Stade de France after H.E.R. sang The Star-Spangled Banner

“As we age, two things happen — we develop skin laxity, so the face droops and you see deeper nose-to-mouth lines, jowls, and a loose neck.

“We also lose volume, from around the temples and mid-face, which can lead to a more gaunt appearance.

His dramatic sky-diving and motorcycle-riding tricks stunned athletes and fans alike

“A facelift moves the facial tissue back into their more youthful position, while fat — taken from elsewhere in the body, usually the stomach or flanks, and placed into the face using tiny injections — supplements lost volume.

“But those fat grafts will still behave like stomach fat, even in the face. So we warn patients if they put on weight, they’ll put it on in their face quite visibly.

“You also have to be judicious in how much you graft into the face, for this reason.”

The expert in facelift surgery agreed there was a “characteristic look” to over-done fat transfer to the face, as he explained: “It’s a puffy, mask-like appearance where the mid-face doesn’t move.”

Other cosmetic surgeons have dubbed the effect a “Howdy Doody face” — referring to an American wooden puppet show character that was the star of a 1960s television show, The Daily Mail reported.

The puppet had exaggerated facial features, and it was once described as the “ugliest puppet imaginable.”

Despite astonishing viewers with his performance, a handful of people also noticed that the actor’s face was visibly different

With his boyish good looks and absence of frown lines, plastic surgery rumors have dogged the actor for years, The Sun reported in 2022.

Although he has reportedly consistently denied going under the knife , fans have speculated the ever-youthful star has had a nose job, hair transplant, and Botox, as well as veneers on his teeth.

When Tom starred in The Outsiders  in 1982, his teeth were visibly yellowed and misaligned, with a pronounced overbite, as per The Sun .

Upon booking leading roles, such as Maverick in Top Gun , Tom reportedly had his teeth whitened to improve the look.

It wasn’t until 2001, after splitting from Nicole Kidman, that Tom got braces to rectify his overbite, proudly showing them off at the premiere of Minority Report , as per the British tabloid.

By 2010, Tom’s face was reportedly beginning to change, occasionally looking chubbier, possibly due to weight fluctuation.

Rumors that the Golden Globe awards winner had undergone a nose job began back in 2012, but when asked by Playboy magazine if he had ever had surgery, he replied: “I haven’t and never would.”

Tom’s appearance at the 2016 BAFTAs had fans commenting on how he looked “inflated” and “puffy,” The Sun reported.

At the Mission Impossible: Fallout premiere in 2018, Tom reportedly looked leaner, with more lines showing on his forehead.

Such “dramatic” fluctuation may have been because “Cruise had a bit too much fat put in,” Kshem told The Daily Mail .

He explained: “We don’t recommend fat grafting is used alone as a filler, without a facelift as you’d have to add so much to achieve an effect there would be a danger patients would be left looking worse.

“The other thing it’s important patients realize is that fat grafts are relatively difficult to undo — other kinds of filler naturally dissolve to some extent over time, but fat is permanent.

“You’d need another operation to remove it.”

Plastic Surgeon Dr. Fadi Hamadani told The Daily Mail: “Tom Cruise has managed to maintain a remarkably youthful appearance, which many credit to his active lifestyle and commitment to fitness.

“While we can’t say for certain if he’s undergone any cosmetic procedures, it’s possible he’s chosen non-invasive treatments to keep his refreshed look.

“ Celebrities often turn to options like fillers or Botox to reduce wrinkles and restore facial volume.

“Additionally, advanced procedures like Morpheus8, which blends micro-needling with radiofrequency energy, and FaceTite, a minimally invasive contouring treatment, can also help achieve a more youthful, tightened appearance.

“These treatments are popular for those aiming to subtly enhance their features while maintaining a natural look.”

Did Tom Cruise Have Plastic Surgery?

By PSP Team

Updated on January 2, 2024

Tom Cruise

“Mission Impossible” actor Tom Cruise is one of Hollywood’s most handsome superstars. He first made his mark in the early ’80s as a charming leading man and teen heartthrob.

Tom’s longevity in the business is legendary as he has made box office movies one after the other. But fame and prominence, apparently, has its price.

Behind his success and multi-million dollar movie deals, Tom has been the subject of controversies, especially about his looks. It seems like the “Top Gun” star hasn’t aged despite being in the business for more than four decades.

Peopl are wondering if Tom Cruise is a fan of plastic surgery. We know he definitely worked on his teeth. But did he get face fillers too? And has he had a nose job?

While it’s usually the female stars who ignite such talks but Hollywood is such a competitive business that even actors are making efforts to stay appealing and attractive.

Before & After Photos

All theses rumors surrounding Tom can’t be helped as he’s a widely photographed star. There are simply too many visual records on his changing appearances.

So, we’re going to look at his photos before and after he became famous to see if he’s invested in cosmetic surgeries. Let’s get it on!

  • Tom Cruise’s Bad Teeth…FIXED!

Tom Cruise's Teeth

When Tom was filming “The Outsiders” over 35 years ago, he had such crooked teeth. We’re not kidding when we say that this was not part of his character’s appearance. Rumors were that Tom used to cover his old teeth with a cap because it looked so bad and he hardly smiled for the cameras.

But thanks to dental technology, braces, and a good dentist, Tom’s teeth today is an even set. He has one of the biggest, brightest and warmest smiles in Hollywood, too.

  • His Front Teeth Alignment

Tom Cruise's Front Teeth Alignment

Tom’s front teeth, however, still has its flaws despite having a cosmetic dentistry procedure. If you look closely, the actor’s mega-watt pearly grin — obviously the product of whitening and veneers — is not exactly symmetrical to his face. His middle tooth’s alignment is slightly off to the center.

However, given how it looked when he was as a child, his smile makeover is a huge improvement.

  • Does Tom Have a Nose Job?

Did Tom Cruise Have A Nose Job?

Rumors said that the actor has had more than one nose job. According to this “before” photo, Tom’s nose used to have a wide nasal bridge and a large tip. Now, his nose looks smaller and is perfectly-shaped to m match his gorgeous face.

In 2016, Tom actually admitted he had rhinoplasty while talking to reporters at the BAFTA red carpet, but he didn’t say when he first got it and whether he had more than once.

  • Did He Get Botox Injections?

Did Tom Cruise Get Botox Injections?

The Hollywood superstar also disclosed that he got botox on his forehead, cheeks and chin. You’ve got to give him a big credit for being so open and admitting these enhancements.

A friend and former co-star Cuba Gooding, Jr. revealed in an interview that he found Tom at his home one time in the middle of a session with his plastic surgeon. He simply isn’t shy about getting these procedures.

Fans, however, think that Tom may have gone overboard with the fillers. While promoting a film, the actor graced the premiere with swollen cheeks and puffy face, as seen in this “after” photo.

  • Has Tom Cruise Had a Face Lift?

Has Tom Cruise Had A Facelift?

Despite his handsome face, Tom apparently isn’t happy that he’s aging and his wrinkles are starting to show. So, it’s quite possible that he has gotten a facelift to fix what bothered him.

His jawline looks tightened the droop around his brows seems to have been corrected too.

  • What About Hair Transplant?

Did Tom Cruise Get Hair Transplant?

Why doesn’t Tom have a receding hairline? He is in his mid-50s, so if he does have hair loss problem, then should be evident on his head by now.

Is it his genes or is it the effects of a hair transplant? Sources told the National Enquirer in 2017 that Tom has been a fan of hair transplant for quite awhile.

While Tom has been open about the work done on his face, he’s been mostly mum about this one and won’t talk about the regrowth and transformation of his hair. Sp, we’ll let you decide this one.

Tom’s Transformation

Without a doubt, Tom Cruise’s appearance has made him a dream man in most women’s eyes. Let’s see how his facial and body features have changed over the years.

Young Tom Cruise when he was a kid

Here’s a rare photo of Tom Cruise when he was young. He already had the confidence of a Hollywood star as a little man, as no one can smile this big with such a bad front tooth. It wasn’t until he started acting that Tom made regular visits to the dentist.

Tom Cruise 1981

Thomas Cruise Mapother IV had an adorable pillow face that hid the definition of his jaw during his teenage years. Puberty was not kind to Tom because he also had flawed skin and baby fat was an issue for a awhile.

Tom Cruise 1986

When “Top Gun” hit the screens, Tom’s star power rose quickly. With his beautiful eyes and perfect face, he instantly became the poster boy for Hollywood idols in the ’80s. This was also the same period that Cruise had a cameo in “Young Guns.”

Tom Cruise 1990

90’s Tom was hailed as one of the sexiest men alive. This was probably the year he started considering a nose job and maybe jaw surgery too. You can see subtle changes to his nose shape and jawbone.

Tom Cruise 1994

Tom grew long hair, a beard and a mustache for his role as the vampire Lestat in “Interview With the Vampire.” Here, he was attending the movie premier at the Mann Village Theatre in Westwood, California. Fans absolutely loved this new look.

Tom Cruise 1996

The was the start of the “Mission Impossible” franchise that sealed Tom’s profile as a box office star. His smoldering eyes in this photo suggested that he might’ve had an eye surgery as his eyebrows appeared lower.

What do you think?

Tom Cruise 2001

Tom sported a new hairstyle following his divorce from Oscar-winner Nicole Kidman . With a shaved head, the actor also opted to grow a beard and perhaps it’s to hide the surgery done on his chin?

We speculate he might’ve had chin implants as his face looks more proportionate and angular in this photo.

Tom Cruise 2005

The Katie Holmes years saw Tom embracing diet and exercise in his lifestyle. He also needed to keep fit for his roles in action films, where he supposedly does his own stunts. To maintain an ideal body shape, however, Tom might have gotten liposuction for his flat abs.

Tom Cruise is not a tall man. The women he dates usually towers over his height but this has not shaken his confidence.

Tom Cruise 2012

Tom sparked plastic surgery talk with this photo from the Vanity Fair Oscar Party because, at 50 years old, there were not many wrinkles on his face. The actor did share in interviews that he has a regimented skin care routine but he was also open about his skin’s anti-aging secrets, which included botox fillers.

Tom Cruise 2016

Tom probably overdid it with the face injections this time because of the puffiness on his cheeks. Twitterverse exploded with questions like, “What happened to Tom Cruise’s face?” Doctors affirmed that he might have just gotten a fresh round of botox when he hit the red carpet.

Tom Cruise 2017

Finally, Tom’s face is thinner so either he’s lost some weight or the fillers have worn off! His neck also looks tighter but we don’t think he had a neck lift.

At 55 years of age, there is no white hair on sight, does Tom use hair dye to make himself look younger?

Tom Cruise 2018

As Tom filmed his sixth “Mission Impossible” movie, the signs of aging are more evident. There are noticeable wrinkles on his forehead and crowfeet around his eyes, but there are no traces of a browlift. He’s older but he still looks good!

Tom Cruise in 2019

Has Tom found the secret to reverse his aging? Well, it certainly seems that way as the star attends the 10th Annual Lumiere Awards at Warner Bros Studios looking absolutely amazing.

I can even spot a pimple on his left cheek, which some claim is the sign of youth.

So, it’ll be interesting to see how he looks in 2020.

The action star-turned-pilot managed to pilot the plane and touch down on the ground.

With a blue cap on his head, the Mission: Impossible star was wearing matching pants and a T-shirt underneath his long-sleeved sweater.

After getting out of the plane, he needed a drink from his water bottle and put on his face mask.

As if he were agent Ethan Hunt in real life, Tom ended up riding his motorcycle across the streets of LA.

Tom's latest appearance came after recent snapshots of him at a baseball game had gone viral.

Recently, the Interview With a Vampire star made a rare public appearance as he was enjoying  Game 2 of the National League Division Series .

A MAJOR STUNT SCENE

Tom Cruise learned how to fly a WWII military plane

At the beginning of October, The Sun revealed that the Minority Report actor was learning to fly a World War Two military plane.

His training session was held at the Duxford Airfield in Cambridgeshire.

His pilot skills were needed for the stunt scenes in the upcoming installment of his blockbuster Mission: Impossible series.

A source from the set told the Sun: “Tom had started to learn to fly a Boeing Stearman biplane earlier this year for a major stunt scene in Mission: Impossible 8.

“It’s obviously a highly skilled task but as usual he has no plans to cut any corners or bring in a stuntman."

The insider continued: “Filming has only just wrapped on Mission: Impossible 7 but Tom has not given himself a break.
