How to catch the women’s and men’s racing in the second monument of the season

The 2024 men's and women's Tour of Flanders takes place on Sunday 31 March.

The second monument of the season, the Ronde van Vlaanderen is defined by its steep cobbled climbs.

The 270.8km men's race starts in Antwerp and finishes in Oudenaarde, which has hosted the finish since Peter Sagan's win in 2016. The men's route features 17 cobbled climbs in total, including the Koppenberg, Valkenberg, Wolvenberg and others.

The women's race is 163km, starting and finishing in Oudenaarde. The women's route includes 12 bergs, finishing with a double-headed ascent of the Kwaremont and Paterberg.

The women’s race starts in Oudenaarde at 1.24pm CEST and is expected to finish around 5.55pm.

The men's race starts at 10am CEST and is due to finish around 4:45pm.

Eurosport 1 and Discovery+ will show live coverage of the men's and women's editions of the 2024 Tour of Flanders.

It's safe to say that for Belgian cycling fans the Tour of Flanders is bigger than Christmas — way bigger. The climax to the Flemish cycling 'holy week' and the second cycling Monument of 2024 will see the worlds best Classics riders cover an epic 271 kilometers between Antwerp and Oudenaarde, taking in no less than 17 brutal cobbled climbs.

Leaving Antwerp, the first half of the race is predominantly flat. Then, after 136 kilometers, the route arrives at the first of three ascents of the Oude Kwaremont and from here on it's brutal. The climbs and cobbled sectors come in rapid succession, each one hitting the riders hard and testing their strength and skill to the absolute limit.

The Koppenberg, the Mariaborrestraat, Steenbeekdries and Stationsberg will lead the riders to the climbs of the Taaienberg and Oude Kruisberg before hitting the Oude Kwaremont for a second time. Then the final combination of the Oude Kwaremont and Paterberg coming just 13 kilometers from the finish line is where the killer blows will almost certainly be dealt.

Last year’s winner Tadej Pogačar has decided to skip the race this year so the role of favorite passes over to Mathieu van der Poel who is in scintillating form having destroyed the field to win the E3 Saxo classic and also take second behind Mads Pederson at Gent Wevelgem. It’s Pederson who will lead the challenge against Van der Poel.

The peloton rolled out under clear skies with everyone wondering just how they can stop Van de Poel winning his third edition to equal the record of three victories.

How to Watch the Tour of Flanders

Here’s why you need to tune in for one of the most exciting races on the spring calendar.

This season’s second Monument just might be the best.

Here’s everything you need to know about Belgium’s biggest race.

The men’s race begins in Antwerp and heads southwest toward the hills of the Flemish Ardennes, a region packed with short, steep cobbled climbs , which the locals call bergs . Once the race passes through Oudenaarde, the action centers around two big loops, each featuring the two climbs—the Oude Kwaremont (long, steady, and cobbled) and the Paterberg (short, steep, and cobbled)—that often determine the outcome of the race.

The 264km course is one of the most challenging in pro cycling, with narrow farm roads that seem to wind endlessly around the Flemish countryside. This is why it often takes years for riders to master the nuances of the race, as a rider’s position heading into each of the day’s key climbs can often make the difference between winning and losing. And in April, weather can be a factor as well.

Of the 19 climbs in this year’s men’s race, the Koppenberg (44km from the finish line) is probably the most famous. Super-steep, cobbled, and narrow, this is where the race’s final phase begins. Riders who don’t hit the climb at the front of the peloton are often forced to get off their bikes and walk as the sudden deceleration ripples through the pack. The race is essentially over for anyone who isn’t in the top 25.

After the Koppenberg, five climbs remain, and recent editions of the race have seen race-winning attacks launched on several of them. From the top of the second and final ascent of the Paterberg it’s only 13km to the finish line in Oudenaarde, a distance that several riders have covered alone in recent years. Sprints are rare in the Ronde; the race is too hard to see large groups make it to the finish line in contention for the win.

The 152km women’s race begins and ends in Oudenaarde, with many of the same climbs and cobbled sectors as the men’s event. While the women’s race skips the Koppenberg, the finale is the same as the men’s with the Kruisberg, the Oude Kwaremont, and the Paterberg coming in quick succession before the 13km ride back to the finish in Oudenaarde. As is the case with the men’s race, the strongest rider always wins.

How to Watch

What Happened Last Year

Last year’s men’s event was probably the most exciting event of the season with Quick Step’s Julian Alaphilippe, Jumbo-Visma’s Wout van Aert, and Alpecin-Fenix’s Mathieu van der Poel—three of the sport’s biggest superstars right now—breaking away in the final 40km, only for Alaphilippe to crash-out after colliding with a motorcycle .

That left van Aert and van der Poel to add another chapter to what has quickly become one of the most exciting rivalries in the sport’s history, with the Dutchman (van der Poel) defeating the Belgian (van Aert) in a photo finish. For the second year in a row, UAE’s Alexander Kristoff (who won the Ronde in 2015) took the sprint for third, eight seconds later.

Later in the day (the timing of the men’s and women’s races were adjusted so as to maximize TV coverage of both), Boels-Doelmans’ Chantal van den Broek-Blaak attacked on the Oude Kwaremont to win the women’s event. The Dutchwoman took a dramatic solo victory, aided by her teammates who disrupted the efforts of those trying to catch the lone attacker. As if to emphasize the squad’s dominance, Amy Pieters won the sprint for second place, beating Lotto-Soudal’s Lotte Kopecky into third. van den Broek-Blaak’s win was the seventh for the Netherlands, by far the most for any nation in the 17-year history of the event.

Riders to Watch

Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma)

Despite finishing second to van der Poel last year, van Aert gets the edge over the Dutchman thanks to his win in Sunday’s Ghent-Wevelgem, coupled with van der Poel’s poor showing in Wednesday’s Dwars door Vlaanderen. The Belgian seems to have timed his form just right, but he needs to avoid playing his cards too soon and blowing himself up before the final, which cost him a chance to win last Friday’s E3 Saxo Bank Classic. A win for van Aert would make Belgium’s cycling year.

Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Fenix)

Van der Poel is probably the most talented rider in cycling, but he’s prone to making mistakes, which means many of his biggest wins have come after monumental efforts to compensate for missing key breakaways or poor positioning. He’s likely less worried about van Aert and more concerned with the depth of the Quick Step squad, which showed at last Friday’s E3 Saxo Bank Classic that it has the collective strength to first isolate and then defeat the Dutchman. Then again, this is Mathieu van der Poel we’re talking about, and if he’s at his best, there might be little anyone can do to stop him.

Julian Alaphippe (Deceuninck-Quick Step)

Before crashing out of last year’s race, the reigning world champion showed he’s got what it takes to win the Tour of Flanders. He’s helped by the fact that his Quick Step squad has several cards to play with men like Kasper Asgreen, Zdenek Stybar, Yves Lampaert, and Florian Sénéchal all capable of winning the race themselves. The Belgian team has made a business of winning this race for decades, and whether it’s with Alaphilippe or one of his teammates, they’re always a good bet to win.

Jasper Stuyven (Trek-Segafredo)

The Belgian won Milan-Sanremo two weeks ago with a savvy late-race attack that surprised the favorites. Now he’s a marked man for Flanders, a race more suited to his powerful style. He showed in Dwars door Vlaanderen that he’s still at the top of his game, making him the rider most likely to upset the MVP/WVA/Quick-Step triumvirate at the top of the list of contenders.

Greg van Avermaet (AG2R-Citroën)

The 35-year-old has won just about every Classic or semi-Classic on the calendar—except the Ronde. Now riding for a French team, the Belgian has been ever-present at the front of the peloton this spring, but seems to come up short when it matters most. But if he and teammate Oliver Naesen can get their timing right, they could capitalize on their outsider status to take AG2R’s first Monument victory.

Chantal van den Broek-Blaak (SD Worx)

The defending women’s champion is back and ready to defend her title. The 31-year-old, who won the Strade Bianche in early March, rides for the strongest team in the sport with Anna van der Breggan, the reigning world champion and a former Ronde-winner (2018), joining her on Sunday’s starting line.

Annemiek van Vleuten (Movistar)

Van Vleuten had a relatively quiet spring before winning Wednesday’s Dwars door Vlaanderen, a victory that put her near the top of the list for the Flanders, which she won back in 2011. Now riding for Movistar after five years with Mitchelton-Scott, the European champion might have less team support to rely upon, but when she’s in form, there’s little others can do to stop her.

Marianne Vos (Jumbo-Visma)

Vos won her team’s first race ever at last Sunday’s Ghent-Wevelgem, a victory that reminded us all of the Dutchwoman’s immense talent. The win followed her second-place at the Trofeo Alfredo Binda the week before, results that show she’s peaking at just the right time to add another Flanders victory to the win she earned in 2013.

Elisa Longo Borghini (Trek-Segafredo)

Longo Borghini won the Ronde in 2015 and looks ready to add Flanders another victory to her resume after a win in the Trofeo Alfredo Binda and second-place finish in Strade Bianche. She failed to impress in Ghent-Wevelgem or Dwars door Vlaanderen, but she leads one of the deeper squads on the women’s World Tour and has the experience to make-up for whatever form she might be lacking. Don’t discount the Italian’s chances.

Tour des Flandres 2024 : Diffusion TV

Ce dimanche 31 mars, c’est sur France 3, Eurosport 2 et sur la RTBF – La Une Sport en Belgique que vous pourrez suivre en direct la 108e édition du Tour des Flandres, second Monument de la saison cycliste sur route 2024 . Les journalistes et consultants des chaines TV seront aux commentaires à partir de 9H35 sur la chaine payante pour suivre en intégralité la course WorldTour, sinon il vous faudra patienter jusqu’à 13h35.

Comment suivre en direct à la TV Le Tour des Flandres 2024 ?

Sur France 3, à partir de 13h35 (durée 4h25), vous avez rendez-vous avec le service des sports de France TV pour suivre en direct tout le final de la course. Les commentaires sont assurés par Alexandre Pasteur, accompagné de Marion Rousse et Laurent Jalabert . Vous pourrez suivre en leur compagnie toute la course ainsi que la cérémonie protocolaire.

Sur Eurosport 2 à partir de 9h45 et jusqu’à 16h45 , à la TV, sur le site internet et sur l’appli, c’est avec les excellents Guillaume di Grazia (le journaliste de la chaine) et ses consultants experts en cyclisme que sont Philippe Gilbert, Jacky Durand et Steve Chainel que vous avez rendez-vous pour 6h45 de direct . A l’issue de la course, dans l’émission « Les Rois de La Pédale » vous pourrez profiter d’un résumé vidéo, des premières interviews des coureurs et d’un débrief complet depuis Oudenaarde. Pour les retardataires, une rediffusion est prévue sur la même chaine à partir de 18h (durée : 45 minutes).

Du côté de la Belgique, vous pourrez suivre toute la fin de course sur La Une (RTBF) à partir de 13h35 . Durée (4h25) selon le programme annoncé par la chaine TV Belge.

Le parcours

Le Ronde s'étend de Bruges à Audenarde et comprend deux monts : le Vieux Quaremont et le Paterberg (380 mètres de long, 20%), qui sera le dernier mont de la course. Ils pourraient peser dans la balance selon s'ils sont bien gérés ou non par les coureurs.

Les Français ont du mal

Seulement trois Français ont terminé sur le podium du Tour des Flandres depuis 1993, soit une moyenne d'un tous les dix ans. En 2022, Valentin Madouas avait terminé la course à une honorable troisième place.

On se souvient encore du finish formidable, l'an dernier, qui avait vu Van der Poel s'imposer devant Dylan van Baarle et le Français.

Christophe Laporte, récent vainqueur de Gand–Wevelgem et de A Travers les Flandres, et bien sûr Julian Alaphilippe, sont les chances françaises sur cette course.

Un favori devrait l'emporter

Le dernier vainqueur, petit fils de Raymond Poulidor, avait alors remporté son deuxième Tour des Flandres l'an dernier. Dimanche, nul doute qu'il sera surveillé comme le lait sur le feu par les deux autres monstres, le double vainqueur du Tour de France Tadej Pogacar et Wout Van Aert .

Même s'il est toujours difficile de prévoir le résultat d'une telle course, on se dit que le nom du vainqueur de cette année devrait figurer parmi ces trois-là.

Liège-Bastogne-Liège: Pogacar-Van der Poel, le combat des Ardennes

Le Slovène Tadej Pogacar (D) et le Néerlandais Mathieu Van der Poel (G) à la lutte à l'approche de l'arrivée de Milan-Sanremo, le 16 mars 2024

Tadej Pogacar et Mathieu van der Poel, les deux plus grands coureurs de classiques de leur génération, entrent en collision dimanche sur Liège-Bastogne-Liège, nouvel épisode de leur bataille pour collectionner les Monuments.

En l'absence de Remco Evenepoel, double vainqueur sortant de la Doyenne, le Slovène s'avance comme favori face au champion du monde néerlandais qui, après ses succès écrasants au Tour des Flandres et à Paris-Roubaix, peut devenir le premier depuis Eddy Merckx en 1975 à remporter trois Monuments en une saison, mais retrouve un terrain de jeu moins propice à ses qualités.

La course aux Monuments

En remportant son deuxième Paris-Roubaix, Van der Poel est devenu, à 29 ans, le seul coureur en activité à avoir gagné six "Monuments", la dénomination des cinq grandes classiques séculaires. Pogacar, 25 ans, a toutefois l'occasion d'égaliser dimanche en s'imposant une deuxième fois à Liège, après 2021.

Cet enjeu transcende la Doyenne où "Pogi" aura une revanche à prendre après sa violente chute l'an dernier (fracture au poignet) qui avait entravé sa préparation pour le Tour de France.

Les deux coureurs sont également en lice pour un exploit réussi seulement par trois Belges -Merckx, Roger De Vlaeminck, Rik Van Looy- dans l'histoire: remporter les cinq Monuments. Pogacar (Tour des Flandres, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Tour de Lombardie) et Van der Poel (Milan-Sanremo, Tour des Flandres, Paris-Roubaix) en ont déjà gagné trois. Les deux qui leur manquent sont aussi, pour chacun, les plus difficiles à conquérir vu leur profil.

Avantage Pogacar à Liège

La Doyenne récompense généralement les coureurs de classement général puisqu'il faut savoir encaisser un dénivelé positif digne d'une étape de montagne du Tour de France (4.450 m) et la succession de côtes parfois très violentes, comme la Redoute (1,6 km à 9,4%) et la Roche-aux-Faucons (1,3 km à 11%). Un tracé idéal pour Pogacar, moins pour Van der Poel, plus lourd (75 kg), même s'il a fait sixième à Liège en 2020 lors de sa seule participation. "Je suis suffisamment réaliste pour savoir que j'aurais du mal à suivre les Remco et Tadej s'ils sont à leur meilleur niveau. Ils grimpent mieux", disait le Néerlandais à Roubaix. Sa forme du moment lui offre des raisons d'y croire, même si sa contre-performance à l'Amstel Gold Race (22e) a soulevé quelques doutes.

Une approche différente

Intouchable sur les Monuments pavés, Van der Poel a marqué le pas dimanche à Amstel où il a semblé presque timide. Simple coup de moins bien ou premier signe d'un surmenage? La Doyenne offrira sa réponse alors que le Néerlandais a passé la semaine au chaud en Espagne, où il réside, pour s'entraîner et fuir l'attention médiatique.

Pogacar arrive sur une dynamique très différente. Focalisé sur le Giro en mai, il n'a plus couru depuis son triomphe au Tour de Catalogne le 24 mars. "J'ai passé du temps en altitude pour préparer le Giro. La forme est bonne et je suis impatient à l'idée d'épingler à nouveau un dossard", souligne le Slovène.

Et lui aussi a pédalé au soleil, partageant des photos de ses sorties d'entraînement sous le ciel bleu de la Riviera italienne pendant qu'un déluge de grésil s'abattait sur ses collègues en lice à la Flèche Wallonne.

Un duel intense

Pogacar et Van der Poel ne présentent pas le même profil et ne partagent pas une rivalité absolue comme celle opposant le Slovène à Jonas Vingegaard sur le Tour ou le Néerlandais à Wout Van Aert sur les classiques.

A Milan-Sanremo, où Van der Poel a su répondre -et contrer victorieusement en 2023- les attaques de Pogacar. Et surtout au Tour des Flandres, où Van der Poel a gagné leur duel en 2022 avant que Pogacar ne prenne une revanche éclatante en 2023 en s'envolant dans le Vieux Quaremont.

En août dernier à Glasgow, c'est à nouveau Van der Poel qui avait pris le dessus pour devenir champion du monde devant Van Aert et Pogacar. Dimanche, le ring de boxe sera installé sur la Doyenne.

La dernière des trois Ardennaises de la saison de cyclisme sur route se tient ce dimanche 21 avril : Liège-Bastogne-Liège.

Quatre jours après une Flèche Wallonne 2024 pleine de surprises, remportée par le Britannique Stephen Williams et par la Polonaise Katarzyna Niewiadoma , qui pourra succéder à Remco Evenepoel (BEL), vainqueur des deux dernières éditions mais absent ce week-end pour cause de blessure ? Du côté des femmes, Demi Vollering (NED) remportera-t-elle la course pour la deuxième année consécutive ?

Les hommes vont parcourir 254,5 km accidentés pour cette 110e édition de la Doyenne des Classiques , tandis que le parcours de la 7e édition de la course femmes compte 153 km.

Un duel au sommet entre Tadej Poga č ar et Mathieu Van der Poel chez les hommes

Toujours convalescent après sa chute sur le Tour du Pays basque au début du mois d’avril , Remco Evenepoel ne pourra pas défendre son titre ce week-end. En son absence, les deux principaux prétendants au titre sont Tadej Pogačar et Mathieu van der Poel , ce qui promet un duel palpitant pour ce quatrième Monument de l’année.

Sur le papier, le parcours de Liège-Bastogne-Liège semble donner l’avantage à Tadej Pogačar . Le Slovène, vainqueur de l’édition 2021, se sent confiant à l’approche de la course.

« La forme est bonne et je pense que je peux bien faire », a-t-il déclaré en amont de la Doyenne des Classiques . « Liège-Bastogne-Liège est une de mes courses préférées et aussi une des plus difficiles, donc c’est toujours agréable d’y retourner », a poursuivi le Slovène dans des propos rapportés par Belga .

Contraint à l’abandon l’an passé, alors qu’il attendait avec impatience sa confrontation avec Remco Evenepoel, Tadej Pogačar a modifié sa stratégie cette année. En pleine préparation pour le Giro, il n’a participé ni à l’Amstel Gold Race ni à la Flèche Wallonne ces dernières semaines, et sera donc frais pour Liège-Bastogne-Liège.

Son début d’année tonitruant avec six victoires en seulement neuf jours de course étoffe son statut de favori. Mais celui dont la victoire en solitaire sur les Strade Bianche en début d'année a marqué les esprits devra également compter sur la présence de Mathieu van der Poel .

Le Néerlandais pourrait devenir le premier coureur depuis Eddy Merckx en 1975 à gagner trois Monuments sur la même saison s’il s’impose ce dimanche. Il reste sur un exceptionnel doublé sur le Tour des Flandres et Paris-Roubaix .

Le Britannique Thomas Pidcock , tout frais vainqueur de l'Amstel Gold Race, et le Danois Mattias Skjelmose , 3e du Tour du Pays basque et 4e de Paris-Nice, comptent parmi les favoris et tenteront de déjouer les pronostics.

Du côté des Français, David Gaudu , de retour d'une blessure à la main, et Guillaume Martin , qui aime les courses endurantes comme Liège-Bastogne-Liège, peuvent briller. Kévin Vauquelin va pour sa part tenter de réitérer sa belle performance de la semaine passée, avec sa 2e place sur la Flèche Wallonne. Le jeune Romain Grégoire , 7e sur la Flèche Wallonne et 12e de l'Amstel Gold Race, et Benoît Cosnefroy, 4e à Huy, peuvent aussi espérer tirer leur épingle du jeu.

Demi Vollering candidate à sa propre succession chez les femmes

Du côté des femmes, la grande favorite se nomme Demi Vollering . Auteure d'un impressionnant triplé sur les Ardennaises l'an passé, la Néerlandaise n'est pas encore parvenue à s'imposer cette année. Passée tout près de la victoire sur la Flèche Wallonne mais devancée par la Polonaise Katarzyna Niewiadoma, elle débutera la course avec pour ambition la victoire finale.

Sa coéquipière Lotte Kopecky pourrait cependant jouer les trouble-fête. La championne du monde impressionne depuis le début de l'année, avec notamment ses victoires sur les Strade Bianche et sur les pavés de Paris-Roubaix .

La Polonaise Katarzyna Niewiadoma débutera la course avec le plein de confiance grâce à sa victoire sur la Flèche Wallonne. Elle connaît bien Liège-Bastogne-Liège, puisqu'elle avait décroché la 3e place en 2017. Élise Chabbey (SUI), Elisa Longo-Borghini (ITA) et Marianne Vos (NED) font également partie des sérieuses outsiders.

Du côté tricolore, Juliette Labous peut avoir des ambitions élevées, tout comme Évita Muzic , qui a terminé à la 4e place à Huy ce mercredi .

Liège-Bastogne-Liège : le résumé de la démonstration de Pogacar sur la Doyenne

Tadej Pogacar a survolé la Doyenne en lâchant ses concurrents à 35 km de l'arrivée. Derrière, Romain Bardet décroche la deuxième place après une attaque en solitaire, devant Mathieu van der Poel.

• Parti seul à 35 km de l'arrivée , le Slovène termine avec 1'39" d'avance sur Romain Bardet.

• Mathieu van der Poel, en difficulté tout au long de la Doyenne , complète finalement le podium en terminant au sprint.

L'émotion de Romain Bardet après son arrivée

Deuxième derrière Tadej Pogacar, le Français était en larmes quelques instants plus tard. A 33 ans, il signe sa plus belle performance sur un Monument. 

Pogacar : « Gagner en solo, c'est spécial »

Tadej Pogacar, qui a remporté son 6e Monument ce dimanche, a réagi à sa victoire après la course : « Ca a été une journée difficile avec le froid. On a mis un gros rythme pour rester chaud. L'an dernier j'avais fracturé mon poignet et j'y ai beaucoup pensé pendant la course. C'est vraiment beaucoup beaucoup d'émotion. Toute la journée j'avais à l'esprit de faire attention et d'être prudent. Je n'ai pas pris trop de risques dans les descentes. Gagner en solo, c'est spécial. Surtout dans une course aussi longue. C'est vraiment génial de terminer comme ça. »

Trois Français dans le top 10 

Aurélien Paret-Peintre termine à la 5e position, alors que Valentin Madouas est 7e au classement final. 

Van der Poel complète le podium

Longtemps lâché par le groupe des poursuivants, Mathieu van der Poel arrache la troisième place grâce à un final au sprint, après être revenu à hauteur du groupe Bernal à 10 km de l'arrivée. 

Tadej Pogacar survole la Doyenne et l'emporte en solitaire à Liège. Bardet prend la deuxième place

Parti seul à 35 km de l'arrivée dans la côte de la Redoute, le Slovène a complètement dominé ce Liège-Bastogne-Liège et s'impose avec 1'39" d'avance sur Romain Bardet. Le Français a résisté jusqu'au bout, et signe une superbe deuxième place à la Doyenne. 

2 km. Qui pour compléter le podium ? 

Les deux premières places sont désormais actées, mais tout va se jouer au sprint pour la troisième place de ce Liège-Bastogne-Liège. 

4 km. Bardet bien parti !

20" d'avance pour le Français maintenant, qui a résisté au retour du groupe Bernal. 

5 km. Van der Poel fait la jonction 

Le Néerlandais rejoint le groupe de Bernal et peut rêver d'un podium dans le final. 

6 km. Van der Poel tente de revenir

Plus que 7 secondes d'écart entre lui et le groupe Bernal. 

8 km. Et pendant ce temps-là… Pogacar creuse l'écart

Le Slovène est dans une classe à part aujourd'hui. Il a 1'44" d'avance sur Bardet. Le coureur de l'équipe UAE est sur un nuage. 

9 km. La nouvelle relance de Bardet !

Le Français profite d'un flottement chez ses poursuivants, qui se regardent. Bardet accélère et reprend 10 secondes d'avance. Ca va se jouer dans les derniers kilomètres !

10 km. Attaque de Bernal !

Bardet tente de relancer mais le groupe Bernal est en train de revenir doucement sur lui. 

11 km. Carapaz et Bernal en embuscade

Les deux hommes mènent la danse pour essayer de revenir sur Bardet, qui garde 10" d'avance. 

12 km. Bardet prend 10" d'avance sur ses poursuivants

Le Français est à 1'30" de Pogacar, mais est bien placé pour aller chercher la deuxième place. Il faut tenir ! A 12 km de l'arrivée, tout peut encore arriver. 

13 km. Attaque de Bardet !

Le Français résiste à l'accélération d'Healy, puis attaque à son tour ! Il part seul et met ses concurrents au podium à plusieurs secondes. 

13 km. Healy accélère avec Bardet dans sa roue !

Cosnefroy et Grégoire sont largués, mais Bardet tient le coup. 

16 km. Pogacar attaque la Roche-aux-Faucons

Une côte d'1,3 km, à 11 % de pente moyenne, avec un passage à 16 %. 

18 km. Pogacar dicte le tempo

1'20" pour le leader de la course, qui est dans un monde à part. Le groupe Bardet a 20 secondes d'avance sur le groupe Van der Poel.  

21 km. Les coureurs sous la grêle

Alors que la météo avait été clémente depuis le début de la journée, les coureurs sont pris sous une averse de grêle et de pluie. 

23 km. Trois Français en contre attaque

Bardet et Healy ont été rejoints par Grégoire et Cosnefroy. 1'10" sépare le leader de ses poursuivants. 

25 km. Pogacar creuse son avance

Le Slovène compte désormais plus d'une minute d'avance sur Healy et Bardet. 

27 km. Bardet tente de contrer

Le Français accélère aux côtés d'Healy, mais le duo compte 45" de retard sur le coureur l'équipe UAE. 

29 km. Pogacar creuse l'écart

Le Slovène a déjà 53" d'avance sur ses poursuivants, et continuer d'accentuer son avance. 

30 km. Van der Poel à 1 minute du leader

Van der Poel ne fait pas parti des poursuivants, et fait partie d'un deuxième groupe largué à plus d'une minute. 

31 km.  Les poursuivants à 25" de Pogacar

Bilbao, Bardet, Bernal, Carapaz et une dizaine de coureurs composent ce groupe. 

32 km. Déjà 20" d'avance pour Pogacar

Quelle démonstration de force du Slovène, qui a pris tout le monde vitesse. 

33 km. Pogacar prend 15" d'avance 

Carapaz n'a pas tenu. Pogacar a largué tous ses concurrents dans la côte de la Redoute, et fait désormais cavalier seul.  

35 km . Attaque de Pogacar !

Le Slovène accélère et n'est suivi que par Carapaz. Il est en train de larguer tout le groupe de tête !

35 km. C'est parti pour la côte de la redoute !

C'est ici que tout pourrait se jouer dans ce Liège-Bastogne-Liège. 1,6 km à 9,4%. 

39 km. Arrivée prévue dans moins d'une heure

Le peloton roule à 40,2 km/h de moyenne depuis le début de la course, ce qui devrait nous offrir une arrivée vers 16h30. 

44 km. On s'approche de la côte de la Redoute

Plus que 9 km avant d'attaquer la côte de la Redoute. C'est à cet endroit que tout s'était accéléré lors des deux dernières éditions. Remco Evenepoel, vainqueur des deux dernières éditions, n'est pas présent aujourd'hui, blessé à la clavicule et à l'omoplate après une chute. 

48 km. Le peloton débute l'ascension de la côte de Desnié 

Une montée d'1,6 km, à 8,1% de pente moyenne. 

50 km. Plus que 50 km dans ce Liège-Bastogne-Liège

La course s'est calmée, avant d'arriver, dans quelques kilomètres, à la côte de Desnié. 

56 km. Kévin Vauquelin : « Il faut suivre plutôt que d'être stratégique » 

Le coureur normand, 2e de la dernière Flèche wallonne, s'est exprimé au micro de France TV hier : « Il faut suivre plutôt que d'être stratégique. Ce qui va être important ça va être le placement sur les bosses, puis voir au niveau des jambes. »

60 km. UAE dicte le tempo

La formation de Tadej Pogacar impose un rythme soutenu dans cette ascension, la plus longue de ce Liège-Bastogne-Liège. 

64 km. On attaque le col du Rosier

C'est une ascension de 4,4 km, à 5,9% de pente. 

68 km. Pidcock et Van der Poel rattrapent leur retard !

Après un énorme effort, le groupe Pidcock rattrape le peloton, rapidement suivi par le groupe Van der Poel. Mais plusieurs favoris ont laissé beaucoup de plumes dans cet effort…

69 km. Enorme chute pour Carlos Blanco !

L'Espagnol paye très cher un moment d'inattention et percute un poteau ! Il fait un soleil et heurte violemment le sol.  

70 km. Pidcock revient à 15"

Son groupe va pouvoir réintégrer le peloton, mais le Britannique a beaucoup donné. 

74 km. Le groupe Pidcock commence à s'approcher du peloton 

Plus que 30" de retard pour le groupe Pidcock.

77 km. Van der Poel lâché par Pidcock !

C'est très compliqué pour Van der Poel, qui n'a pas réussi à suivre Pidcock dans sa tentative de contre. Pidcock, Vansevenant, Grégoire et Rochas ont 47" de retard sur le peloton, contre 1 minute de retard pour Van der Poel. 

78 km. Les coureurs attaquent la côte de Stockeu

Une montée d'1km à 12,5%. Le moment choisi par Pidcock pour tenter de contrer. 

79 km. L'accélération de Pidcock ! 

C'est maintenant ou jamais pour le groupe Van der Poel s'il veut revenir sur le peloton. Pidcock lance une attaque pour tenter de diminuer son retard sur le peloton. 

80 km. Le groupe Van der Poel ne baisse pas les bras

Il tente de rattraper le peloton, et compte 1'15". Pidcock, Bilbao, Van der Poel, Gergoir, Madouas et Vermaerke composent notamment ce groupe. 

83 km. Les coéquipiers de Van der Poel ne l'attendent pas

Van der Poel semble avoir indiqué à ses coéquipiers de ne pas l'attendre, puisque ceux toujours présents dans le peloton roulent à un rythme soutenu. 

85 km. Plus de 1'30" de retard pour Van der Poel

Le Néerlandais est très mal embarqué. Il n'arrive pas à rattraper son retard !

86 km. Pidcock et Madouas tentent de rattraper leur retard

Pris dans la chute, Pidcock et Madouas roulent à deux pour tenter de rattraper le groupe Van der Poel et revenir sur le peloton par la suite. Pidcock a souffert d'un problème mécanique. 

88 km. L'échappée définitivement rattrapée

Le peloton reprend la tête de la course, à 88 km de l'arrivée. 

89 km.  Plus que cinq coureurs dans l'échappée

Gil Gelders, Rémy Rochas, Christian Scaroni, Fabien Doubey et Paul Ourselin tentent de résister au retour du peloton.

The most wonderful time of the golf season reaches its conclusion Sunday as the beauty of April surrounds Augusta National Golf Club. The 2024 Masters started as a star-studded affair with a loaded field featuring the best golfers in the world and Scottie Scheffler entering as the favorite. Scheffler held that same position entering Round 4 and has only increased his advantage as the Masters rolls ot a finish.

Scheffler is looking to become the 10th golfer in Masters history to win two green jackets in a three-year span, and given his level of play over the last two years, no one is doubting he can accomplish his goal. Should he do so, he would pick up a $3.6 million winner's check out of a record  2024 Masters prize money allotment -- a $20 million purse .

While five-time Masters champion Tiger Woods set a new record at Augusta National by making the weekend in his 24th consecutive playing of the tournament, he completely ejected on Saturday with his worst score in a major championship round. Tiger rebounded Sunday while playing his 100th round at Augusta National  but nevertheless signed for a 16 over, his worst score to par at a major and the second-worst round overall across his professional career. (At least he wasn't among the major stars who missed the cut .)

Liège-Bastogne-Liège: Pogacar retrouve le sourire sur la Doyenne et rejoint Van der Poel

Tadej Pogacar était favori, et le Slovène a fait honneur à son statut. Trois ans après sa première victoire du la Doyenne en 2021, le double vainqueur du Tour de France (2020, 2021) a remporté son deuxième Liège-Bastogne-Liège dimanche après un raid solitaire de 35 km. Pogacar a lancé son attaque dans la Redoute pour fausser compagnie à un peloton essorré par le travail de ses coéquipiers.

Vainqueur en solitaire, il a franchi la ligne d'arrivée avec 1'39 d'avance sur le Français Romain Bardet et 2'02 sur le Néerlandais Mathieu Van der Poel , qui espérait conclure sa fabuleuse campagne de classiques (Tour des Flandres, Paris-Roubaix) en beauté avec un quatrième Monument différent inscrit à son palmarès. Mais le champion du monde n'a rien pu faire pour contrecarrer les plans du Slovène de 25 ans qui l'a rejoint au palmarès des plus grandes classiques avec un sixième succès.

Pogacar a pris sa revanche dans la Doyenne qu'il avait manquée en 2022 après le décès de la mère de sa compagne, à laquelle il a dédié sa victoire en levant le bras au ciel sur la ligne d'arrivée, et sa lourde chute l'an dernier. Grand favori au départ, il a, comme prévu, fait la différence dans la terrible côte de la Redoute (1,6 km à 9,4%), au même endroit où le Belge Remco Evenepoel, absent sur blessure cette année, avait forgé ses victoires lors des deux dernières éditions.

Pogacar a ensuite creusé son avantage dans les trente derniers kilomètres, avalant à toute allure la dernière difficulté, la côte de la Roche-aux-Faucons, pour remporter sa septième victoire en dix jours de course cette saison, après son triomphe aux Strade Bianche, déjà après une chevauchée fantastique de 81 km, et sa razzia sur le Tour de Catalogne (4 étapes + le général).

Derrière Pogacar, un groupe de poursuivants s'est dégagé au sommet de la Redoute avec l'Irlandais Ben Healy et trois Français, Romain Bardet, Benoît Cosnefroy et Romain Grégoire. Bardet, déjà troisième à Liège en 2018, s'est détaché dans les terribles pourcentages de la Roche-aux-Faucons pour ensuite résister seul au retour d'un petit groupe reformé dans les derniers kilomètres.

Van der Poel, vainqueur du Tour des Flandres et de Paris-Roubaix cette année, n'a pas vraiment pesé sur la course, puisant une première fois dans ses ressources pour recoller très tôt dans la course, après une chute à laquelle il avait échappé à plus de 80 kilomètres de l'arrivée. Mais il s'est accroché pour opérer la jonction avec un petit groupe, à une trentaine de secondes derrière Bardet, et le régler au sprint pour monter sur son premier podium à Liège.

Pogacar va désormais se tourner vers la conquête du Tour d'Italie en mai et son objectif de devenir le premier coureur depuis Marco Pantani en 1998 à gagner la même année le Giro et le Tour de France, un exploit qui ajouterait encore à sa légende.
